Ethnopharmacological Relevance: China and India have unique traditional medicine systems with vast territory and rich medical resources. Traditional medicines in China include traditional Chinese medicine, Tibetan medicine, Mongolian medicine, Uyghur medicine, Dai medicine, etc. In the third national survey of Chinese medicine resources, 12694 medicinal materials were identified. Traditional medicines in India include Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Homoeopathy, etc. There are 7263 medicinal materials in India., Aim of the Study: To reveal the characteristics of medicinal materials between China and India respectively, and to compare the similarities and differences in terms of properties, tastes, medicinal parts and therapeutic uses and to promote the exchange of traditional medicine between China and India and the international trade of traditional medicine industry., Methods: The information of medicinal materials between China and India was extracted from The Chinese Traditional Medicine Resource Records and Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China, as well as from 71 Indian herbal monographs. The information of each medicinal material, such as types, families, genera, properties, distribution, medicinal parts, efficacy, therapeutic uses, dosage form and dosage, was recorded in Excel for statistical analysis and visual comparison., Results: A total of 12694 medicinal materials in China and 5362 medicinal materials in India were identified. The medicinal materials were mostly distributed in Southwest China and northern India. Plants were the main sources of medicinal materials. The common medicinal parts in China were whole medicinal materials, roots and rhizomes, and India used more renewable fruits, seeds and leaves. They are commonly used in the treatment of digestive system diseases. There were 1048 medicinal materials used by both China and India, which were distributed in 188 families and 685 genera. The Chinese and Indian pharmacopoeias had a total of 80 species of medicinal materials used by both China and India., Conclusions: The characteristics of medicinal materials between China and India were somewhat different, which was conducive to provide a reference basis for traditional medicine in China or India to increase the medicinal parts and indications when using a certain medicinal material, as well as to expand the source of medicine and introduce new resources. Background: While modeled estimates and studies in contaminated areas indicate high lead exposure among children in Bihar, India, local data on lead exposure in the child population is limited., Objectives: To characterize lead exposure, and assess potential sources of lead exposure among a state-representative sample of children and their pregnant mothers residing in Bihar., Methods: Blood samples were collected from 697 children under five and 55 pregnant women from eight districts in Bihar. Blood lead levels were determined using capillary blood and a portable lead analyzer. Household demographics, home environment, behavior, and nutrition information were collected through computer-assisted personal interviews with primary caregivers. Logistic regression was used to assess associations between potential risk factors and elevated blood lead levels., Results: More than 90% of children and 80% of pregnant women reported blood lead levels ≥5 μg/dL. Living near a lead-related industry and pica behavior of eating soil were significantly associated with increased odds of having elevated blood lead levels. Additional risk factors for having a blood level ≥5 μg/dL included the use of skin lightning cream (aOR = 5.11, 95%CI: 1.62, 16.16) and the use of eyeliners (aOR = 2.81, 95%CI: 1.14, 6.93). The cloud responses to global warming are captured in various global climate models with distinct inferences on changes in cloud vertical structure as function of surface warming. However, long term observational evidences are scarce to validate the model outputs. Here, we have studied the changes in radiosonde derived cloud macro-physical properties and their association with other atmospheric variables during the period 2000-2019 in response to warming climate over the Indian summer monsoon region. We have observed a statistically significant increase in the frequency of cloudy days (∼13 % decade -1 ), high-level clouds (HLCs ∼11 % decade -1 ) and simultaneous decrease in low-level clouds (LLCs ∼8 % decade -1 ) over the Indian region during the monsoon season. The multiple linear regression, principle component analyses and further correlation analyses suggest significant associations between cloud vertical structure variations and large-scale climate indicators, such as global warming and El Niño-Southern Oscillation. The vertical extension of the tropospheric column and the upward shift of clouds, attributed to global warming, explain the changes observed in both HLCs and LLCs. National Capital Territory of Delhi and its satellite cities suffer from poor air quality during the post-monsoon months of October-November. In this study, a novel attempt is made to estimate the contribution of different emission sources (industrial, residential, power generation, transportation, biomass burning, photochemical production, lateral transport, etc.) towards the criteria air pollutant carbon monoxide (CO) concentration over North India. Multiple simulations of the WRF-Chem model with a tagged tracer approach with different inputs (6 anthropogenic emission inventories and 3 biomass burning emission inventories) were used. The model performance was evaluated against the MOPITT retrieved CO surface concentration. Analysis of model simulated CO over North India suggests that anthropogenic emissions contribute around 32-49% to surface CO concentration while crop residue burning contributes 27-44% of which 80% originates from Punjab. For Delhi, the contribution from anthropogenic sources is dominant (53-77%) of which 10-28% is from the domestic sector and 14-55% is from the transport sector. Agricultural waste burning contributes about 15-30% to Delhi's surface CO concentration (of which 75% originates from Punjab). Crop residue burning emission is a chief source of CO over Punjab with a contribution of about 56-76%. The results suggest that industrial, transport, and domestic sector activities are more responsible for increased CO levels over New Delhi and surrounding regions than crop residue burning over Punjab. Furthermore, critical meteorological parameters like 10 m wind speed, boundary layer height, 2 m temperature, total precipitation, and relative humidity were evaluated against CO concentration to understand their impact on CO distribution. High concentrations of ambient NO 2 causes serious air pollution and could also pose great threats to human health. However, the long-term trends (20-year) and potential health effects of ambient NO 2 exposure globally still shows high uncertainties. In this work, the field measurements, satellite dataset, GEOS-Chem output, and multiple geographical covariates were incorporated into the multi-stage model to investigate the global evolutions of ambient NO 2 during 2000-2019. The results indicated that the cross-validation (CV) R 2 values of ambient NO 2 based on multi-stage model displayed satisfied performance (R 2  = 0.78), which was superior to the individual model. Besides, the out-of-bag R 2 was 0.75, which suggested the multi-stage model showed the better transferability. At the spatial scale, the NO 2 concentrations followed the order of China (16.9 ± 9.0 μg/m 3 ) > India (15.5 ± 5.6 μg/m 3 ) > United States (10.7 ± 5.6 μg/m 3 ) > Europe (7.7 ± 4.5 μg/m 3 ), which was in consistent with the anthropogenic NO x emission. At the temporal scale, the ambient NO 2 levels in China experienced persistent increases (0.29 μg/m 3 /year) during 2000-2013, whereas they showed slight decreases (-0.23 μg/m 3 /year) during 2013-2019. The ambient NO 2 levels in the United States experienced continuous decreases during 2000-2019 (-0.20 μg/m 3 /year), while both of India and Europe remained relatively stable. Long-term NO 2 exposure inevitably increased premature mortalities. The global premature all-cause mortalities associated with the excessive NO 2 exposure increased from 288,169 (95% CI: 43,650, 527,971) to 461,301 (95% CI: 69,973, 843,996) in the past 20 years. In this study conducted along the coast of Odisha, India, reproductive trade-offs in isopods of the family Cymothoidae were investigated, focusing on the relationship between the number vs. volume of eggs and the percentage of brood to body volume. Ovigerous females from species with substantial sample sizes (n > 30) were analyzed to understand their survival strategies. The findings highlight distinct strategies among different parasite types within Cymothoidae. Buccal parasites such as Cymothoa frontalis and Cymothoa indica, along with branchial parasites like Joryma sawayah and Agarna malayi, generally produced a higher number of smaller eggs, except for A. malayi, which produced fewer but larger eggs. In contrast, the external body surface-attaching parasite, Nerocila orbignyi, was observed to produce fewer eggs of larger size. Across all parasite types (intraspecific), there was a statistically significant negative correlation between egg number and egg volume (p < 0.05). Buccal parasites were observed to have the highest percentage of marsupium volume relative to body volume, indicating a strategy to maximize egg storage. Conversely, external body surface-attaching parasites had the lowest percentage, possibly reflecting adaptation to a different reproductive environment. Additional observations revealed anatomical adaptations in all the studied isopod species which include the shift of the alimentary canal to the dorsal side to accommodate the development of the marsupial sac for egg incubation. In summary, these findings illustrate how parasitic isopods of the family Cymothoidae manage trade-offs between reproductive potential and success, crucial for their species' continuity and survival strategies in coastal ecosystems., (© 2024. Three soil transects located in the granitic regions of Palamaner mandal, Andhra Pradesh, India, were examined to assess the pollution levels of both primary and secondary metals (Si, Al, Fe, Ca, Mg, Na, K, Cu, Mn, P, and Zn) and to ascertain the degree of soil pollution in agricultural areas. The soils along these transects are slightly acid to neutral, with dark brown to red rubified argillic clay-rich B horizons alongside a moderate cation exchange capacity. The A horizon soils display low organic carbon levels with a moderate variability and contain over 70% SiO 2 , exhibiting low variability due to limited leaching in a semiarid climate. The findings suggest that iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) oxides play a role in reducing contamination levels through oxidation and precipitation processes. Furthermore, the soils show low to moderate cation exchange capacity, which restricts the retention of absorbed heavy metals, thus lessening their negative impacts. A two-way ANOVA revealed significant differences in CEC, organic carbon, and total zinc content across different horizons and landscape positions. Si, Al, and Cu had small increases and negative geoaccumulation indices in all soil profiles, suggesting no pollution. However, the Nemerow and mean contamination degree over 6 point to slight to moderate pollution. The analysis identified three distinct clusters with significant variations in contamination factors for SiO 2 and Cu. Five principal components were determined, explaining 76% of the total variance, primarily derived from geogenic sources and remaining within acceptable limits. The Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) is used for the regulatory submission of generic drugs, which are pharmaceutical equivalents to brand-name drugs and distributed without patent protection. Different countries have their own regulatory requirements for the approval of generic drugs, enforced by authorities such as the CDSCO in India, EDQM in Europe, and USFDA in the United States. This review aims to compare the regulatory processes and requirements for generic drug approval in India, Europe, and the US, highlighting key differences and challenges. The involvement of regulatory authorities in the drug development process is crucial for expediting approval and addressing queries, helping to minimize delays. The Common Technical Document (CTD) format is employed across regions to harmonize submission requirements. This study underscores the differences in dossier submission for generics across the three regions, illustrating India's position in the global generic drug approval landscape. By comparing approval requirements, this work provides insight into the hurdles India must overcome to streamline its approval process. The ANDA allows generic manufacturers to submit bioequivalence studies, using the original innovator's safety and efficacy data. However, obtaining approval simultaneously from multiple regulatory authorities remains a challenging task. Careful review of regulatory documents by skilled personnel can reduce regulatory queries, ultimately accelerating the market launch of generic drugs. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the generic drug approval process, emphasizing the need for harmonization and improved efficiency in India's regulatory framework.

We investigated the potential accumulation of tetracyclines (TCs) such as chlortetracycline (CTC), oxytetracycline (OTC) and doxycycline (DC), and fluoroquinolones (FQs) like enrofloxacin (ENR) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) in chicken litter and agricultural soils fertilized over short-term to long-term (<1-30 yrs) with chicken litter in a poultry hub for the first time from Tamil Nadu, India. CTC, OTC, DC, CIP, and ENR were detected in 46-92 % of the selected chicken litter samples, with mean levels ranging from 2.90 to 23.30 μg kg -1 . Higher concentrations of TCs and FQs were observed in freshly collected chicken litter from poultry sheds than in those stockpiled in cultivated lands. CTC was the prevalent antibiotic in chicken litter. The overall occurrence, as well as the ecological risks of TCs and FQs, changed over a 30-yr period. The accumulation of veterinary antibiotics (VAs) (in μg kg -1 ) in short-term (>1 yr) to medium-term (1-3 yrs) chicken litter-fertilized soils reached a maximum of 11.60 for CTC, 6.50 for OTC, 0.80 for DC, 3.70 for CIP, and 3.60 for ENR, but decreased in long-term (10-30 yrs) fertilized soils. Ecological risk assessment revealed a Risk Quotient (RQ) of ≤0.10 for CTC, OTC, and DC in all soils, while an average risk (RQ >0.10-<1.0) was evident with CIP and ENR in short-term and medium-term fertilized soils. Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), including tetA, tetB, qnrA, qnrB and qnrS were detected in most of the chicken litter samples and litter-fertilized soils. Thus, it is critical to develop and adopt effective mitigation strategies before applying chicken litter in farmlands to decrease VAs and ARGs, reducing their associated risks to public health and ecosystems in India considering 'One Health' approach. Mountains play a crucial role in shaping the climate of an area and subsequently, the environments and species that are suited to those particular conditions. Understanding the relationships between environmental conditions and their influence on the occurrence of a species is necessary to make informed decisions when conserving relevant habitats. This study evaluated and compared the potential for different interactions between climatic variables to describe the environmental preferences and the range of the Ladakh urial, a narrowly distributed sub-species of Ovis vignei , in the arid Himalayas. Species distribution models were created from spatially thinned presence-only occurrence data of 50 locations using a Maximum Entropy (Maxent) model. For this, we subdivided the modeled distribution into environmental categories with varying degrees of suitability. We identified a high cold precipitation to annual precipitation ratio typical of cold desert climates well suited to describe the highest quality environments for urial. The inverse, low warm precipitation to annual precipitation ratio was found to better describe the urial's range at the lower end of potential habitat. In this comparison, we observed that with the exclusion of unsuitable cold steppe habitat with a higher warm precipitation to annual precipitation ratio, we were able to refine the extent of this species range but at a trade-off to the accurate description of high-quality environments. Background: This paper aimed to explore the palliative care (PC) needs and barriers to access among cancer patients in a rural region of North India with a high cancer burden., Methods: A Participatory action research (PAR) approach was employed. Situational assessment, community sensitization workshops (CSWs) and door-to-door surveys were planned, conducted and developed over three PAR cycles. A parallel convergent mixed-methods approach was adopted wherein the quantitative data from door-to-door surveys and qualitative data from CSWs and investigator field notes were collected and analyzed to provide a comprehensive understanding of PC needs and barriers to access. Descriptive statistics and thematic analysis were used., Results: A total of 27 CSWs involving 526 stakeholders were conducted. A total of 256 cancer patients were assessed for PC needs and symptom burden using the Supportive and Palliative Care Indicators (SPICT-4ALL) and the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System (ESAS) tool, respectively. Based on the SPICT assessment, all patients (n = 256) satisfied general and/or cancer-specific indicators for PC. The majority (56.6%) had ≥ one moderate-severe symptom, with the most common symptoms being tiredness, pain and loss of appetite. Analysis of qualitative findings generated three themes: unmet needs, burden of caregiving, and barriers and challenges. Cancer affected all domains of patients' and their families' lives, contributing to biopsychosocial suffering. Social stigma, discrimination, sympathizing attitudes and lack of emotional and material support contributed to psychosocial suffering among cancer patients and their caregivers. Lack of awareness, nearby healthcare facilities, transportation, essential medicines, trained manpower and education in PC, collusion, fear of social discrimination, faulty perceptions and misconceptions about cancer made access to PC difficult., Conclusions: The study emphasize the need for and provide a roadmap for developing context-specific and culturally appropriate CBPC services to address the identified challenges and needs. The findings point towards education of CHWs in PC; improving community awareness about cancer, PC, government support schemes; ensuring an uninterrupted supply of essential medicines; and developing active linkages within the community and with NGOs to address the financial, transportation, educational, vocational and other social needs as some of the strategies to ensure holistic CBPC services., Trial Registration: Clinical Trial Registry of India (CTRI/2023/04/051357)., (© 2024. Hypertension poses a critical threat to health in India, being the predominant risk factor for mortality and disability. With over 70% of outpatient care being provided by the private sector, our study investigated the practices and incentives of private health providers in screening, diagnosing, treating, monitoring, and counseling hypertension patients in rural and peri-urban India. Conducted from April 2020 to February 2021, the qualitative study involved 46 participants, including various healthcare professionals and patients in three Telangana state districts. Analysis revealed a lack of recognition of hypertension's gravity among private providers in these areas, leading to inconsistent screening practices and varied diagnostic thresholds, particularly among rural medical practitioners. Both formal and informal providers lacked standardized protocols and follow-up mechanisms, with limited technical knowledge about hypertension observed, especially among rural practitioners who were often the first point of contact. Drug effectiveness, and incentives from pharmaceutical sales representatives influenced prescribing practices. Diagnostic labs also offered financial incentives for patient referrals. Thus, aligning providers' objectives with patient preferences and public health goals is crucial. To encourage evidence-based hypertension care, the government and NGOs could implement strategies such as tailored incentives, financial rewards, tax benefits, accreditation, and recognition for private healthcare providers. Professional bodies in the private sector should establish programs emphasizing quality assurance and certifications. Future research should focus on designing and testing new models for private sector hypertension service delivery, coupled with targeted interventions to enhance care in rural and peri-urban settings., (© 2024. Methylation at 5' cytosine of DNA molecule is an important epigenetic mark. It is known to play critical role in adaptation of organisms under different biotic and abiotic stressors via modulating gene expression and/or chromatin architecture. Plant populations evolved under variable climatic conditions may have evolved different epigenetic marks including DNA methylation. Here we, describe the genome-wide DNA methylation pattern under native field, F1 and F6 generation followed by their association with phenotypes, climate and global gene expression in the three Arabidopsis thaliana populations originated at different elevation ranges of Indian West Himalaya. We show that the global methyl cytosine (mC) content is more or less similar in the three populations but differ in their distribution across genome. There was an increase in differential methylation between the populations as elevation increased. The methylation divergence was the highest between the low and the high elevation populations. The high elevation populations were hypo-methylated than the low elevation population. The methylation in the genes was associated with population specific phenotypes and climate of the region. The genes which were differentially methylated as well as differentially expressed between the low and high elevation populations were mostly related to abiotic stresses. When grown under controlled condition, there was gain of differential methylation over native condition and the maximum percent changes was observed in CHH-sequence context. Further ~ 99.8% methylated cytosines were stably passed on from F1 to F6 generation. Overall, our data suggest that high elevation population is epigenetically more plastic under changing environmental condition.Background Arabidopsis thaliana is the model plant species and has been extensively studied to understand plants life processes. There are numerous reports on its origin, demography, evolution, epigenomes and adaptation etc. however, Indian populations of Arabidopsis thaliana evolved along wide elevation ranging from ~ 700 m amsl to ~ 3400 m amsl not explored yet. Here we, describe the genome-wide DNA methylation pattern under native field, F1 and F6 generation followed by their association with phenotypes, climate and global gene expression in the three Arabidopsis thaliana populations originated at different elevation ranges of Indian West Himalaya.Results In our study we found that total mCs percent was more or less similar in the three populations but differ in their distribution across genome. A single-center, prospective, observational pilot study was performed to evaluate wound healing endpoint and recurrence by measuring transepidermal water loss (TEWL) post-closure at the site of wound repair. Patients with clinically-defined chronic wounds (such as pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, and trauma wounds) who visited the Plastic Surgery outpatient department or were in-patients at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh, India, and were referred for chronic wound management, were enrolled. Non-invasive point-of-care TEWL measurements were obtained, from closed wound-site and contralateral healthy skin site, starting from confirmation of closure (post-closure, V0) continuing every 2 weeks for a maximum of five visits or until the wound recurred. Statistical analyses of the data involved logistic regression and likelihood ratio chi-square tests to assess differences in TEWL at visit 0 (V0) between the closed wound site and reference skin, with the TEWL score as the sole predictor of recurrence. Of the 72 subjects that completed the study, 44 (61%) showed no recurrence and 28 (39%) had wounds that recurred over a period of 12 weeks. A significant association was found between the V0 (post-closure) TEWL score and the odds of wound recurrence, both in univariate analysis (OR [95%CI] = 1.26[1.14,1.42] (p < 0.001) and after adjusting for covariates in multivariable analysis (OR [95%CI] = 1.34[1.19,1.61] (p < 0.001). The likelihood ratio chi-square analysis demonstrated that the V0 TEWL score is a significant universal predictor of recurrence across all wound types studied. Cases of closed wounds with subsequent recurrence showed an overall higher post-closure V0 TEWL score, compared to those who did not have a wound recurrence, across visits. The TEWL score cut-off value predictive of recurrence was 24.1 g.m -2 .h -1 (AUC = 0.967). Background: Recent research has revealed that today's older adults report more sleep problems than their predecessors, a trend compounded by expanding social stratification. As such, this study examined the demographic, socioeconomic, and health correlates of sleep quality and sleep duration among community-dwelling older adults in India., Methods: The current study sample draws on data from 7118 respondents aged 50 years and over participating in the World Health Organization's Study on global AGEing and adult health (WHO-SAGE) wave-2 dataset. Sleep quality (good, moderate, and poor) and sleep duration (in hours and minutes) were self-reported. Adjusted multivariable logistic regression models were employed to examine the associations between sleep quality and sleep duration and several demographic, socioeconomic, and health indicators., Results: A total of 12.84% and 36.1% of older adults reported long (> 8 h) and short (< 7 h) sleep, respectively. Older adults with primary education had lower odds of poor sleep [aOR: 0.85, CI: 0.73-0.99] than peers with no formal education. The odds of poor sleep were lower among those in higher wealth quintiles than those in the poorest quintile. Older adults with higher education had higher odds of short sleep [aOR: 1.36, CI: 1.06-1.74], and those with primary education had lower odds of long sleep [aOR: 0.70, CI: 0.54-0.91] than those without formal education (base category: age-appropriate sleep, i.e., 7-8 h). Older adults who were widowed had lower odds of both short [aOR: 0.82, CI: 0.68-0.98] and long sleep [aOR:0.74, CI: 0.58-0.95] compared to those who were currently married. Older individuals with adequate nutritional intake reported lower odds of short [aOR:0.59, CI: 0.49-0.72] and higher odds of long sleep [aOR:1.52, CI: 1.20-1.93] relative to their counterparts. Older adults who reported chronic conditions and body pain had higher odds of poor sleep and short sleep than their counterparts., Conclusions: We identified significant associations between several unmodifiable factors, including age, education, and marital status, and modifiable factors such as dietary intake, body pain, and pre-existing chronic ailments, and sleep quality and sleep duration. Our findings can assist health care providers and practitioners in developing a more holistic and empathic approach to care. Objective: To explore how professionally qualified, working Indian mothers conceptualize healthy foods in general, perceive processed infant and baby foods available commercially and what feeding practices they actually follow with their children at home., Design: Five focus groups with 8-12 participants were conducted around the participants' conceptualization of healthy food, their perceptions about commercially available processed baby and infant foods and their actual feeding practices that they routinely follow with their children. Discussion transcripts were analyzed using an inductive coding approach., Setting: India., Participants: Fifty-one professionally qualified, working women with at least one child under 5 years of age., Results: Participants agreed that fresh food is healthiest. They also had favorable opinions about processed infant and baby foods with regards to healthfulness, hygiene and safety. Healthy foods were largely conceptualized in relation to nutrient claims, ingredients and discernible health outcomes. They use cues, such as health claims, brand, price, package design and others to determine healthfulness of the product. Perception was heavily influenced by these extrinsic cues rather than by participants' own nutrition knowledge. Despite having the knowledge, most participants admitted to using these foods on account of factors such as their own inability to lactate, social pressure, lack of time and convenience., Conclusions: Most educated and well off people continue to use these products. Aim: Student suicide is one significant public health concern across the world, including India. In recent years, the surge in suicide cases has further worried mental health professionals and policymakers. The current study analysed the reported student suicide cases published in four leading Indian newspapers., Method: Based on the analysis of newspaper reports published between 2019 and 2023, the study detected a total of 491 suicidal deaths of students., Result: The result revealed that academic reasons (academic dissatisfaction, academic stress and academic failure), institutional reasons (bullying, caste discrimination, ragging, harassment and toxic institutional culture), mental health issues (depression, psychological stress and anxiety), financial crisis and online gaming are the most commonly reported reasons behind student suicides. The majority of suicide victims were within the age range of 16-21 years. The highest number of suicide cases are reported from Kota, a city often referred to as the coaching capital of India., Conclusion: The study highlights considering changes in the academic curriculum to make academic programs less stressful for students. More importantly, policies should ensure that the academic campuses are free from harassment, bullying or similar aggressive experiences. Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serovar Abortusequi (S. Abortusequi) is a leading cause of abortion in equines that hinders the rapid growth of equine industry. S. Abortusequi infection in equids has re-emerged over last ten years. In the present study, S. Abortusequi was isolated and characterized from donkeys during an abortion storm in the southern peninsular region of India. Further, whole genome sequencing and phylogenomic analysis revealed that the present isolate was clustered among S. Abortusequi clade. The core genome MLST (cgMLST) analysis based on hierarchical clustering and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) core-genome dendrogram of the present isolate against 10 S. Abortusequi isolates revealed that the present isolate established a distinct clade compared to all previously reported isolates. A comparison of cgMLST and SNP analyses revealed the same clustering concordance between isolates. In addition, comparative genomics and phylogenetic analysis was carried out with six S. Abortusequi serovars showed a higher number of core genes than accessory genes. Streptomyces is a diverse genus, well known for producing a wide array of metabolites that have significant industrial utilization. The present study investigates the genetic and functional diversity of Streptomyces spp. isolated from the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve (PBR), India, an unexplored site. The 16S rRNA gene sequencing and analysis revealed 96 isolates belonging to 40 different species indicating a substantial phylogenetic diversity. The strains were clustered into two groups: a major cluster with 94 strains and a small cluster with two strains. BOX- PCR analyses revealed an incredible genetic diversity existing among the strains of Streptomyces spp. in PBR. The analyses revealed the intra-species diversity and inter-species closeness within the genus Streptomyces in the study area. Qualitative screening for enzyme production has shown that 53, 42, 41, 11, and 54 strains tested positive for CMCase, xylanase, amylase, pectinase, and β-glucosidase, respectively. Additionally, 54 strains tested positive for PHB production. The strains were assayed quantitatively for the production of CMCase, xylanase, amylase, and pectinase. Streptomyces sp. MP9-2, Streptomyces sp. MP10-11, Streptomyces sp. MP10-18, and Streptomyces sp. MP10-6 recorded maximum CMCase (0.604 U/mL), xylanase (0.553 U/mL), amylase (1.714 U/mL), and pectinase (13.15 U/mL) activities, respectively. Furthermore, several strains demonstrated plant growth-promoting traits, viz. zinc and phosphate solubilization and production of ammonia, HCN (hydrogen cyanide), and IAA (Indole acetic acid), and nitrogen fixation. Fifty strains showed antifungal activity against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici with inhibitions ranging from 7.5 to 47.5%. Land degradation is accelerating in the Himalayan ecosystem, resulting in the loss of soil nutrients due to severe erosion. Soil erosion presents a significant environmental challenge, resulting in both on-site and off-site consequences, such as reduced soil productivity and siltation in reservoirs. Soil erodibility (K factor), an inherent soil property, determines the susceptibility of soils to erosion. Sampling across hilly and mountainous terrain pose challenges due to its complex landscape. Despite these challenges, it is essential to study K factor variations in different land use/land cover types to comprehend the threat of erosion. Digital soil mapping offers an opportunity to overcome this limitation by providing spatial predictions of soil properties. The objective of our study is to map the spatial distribution of soil erodibility using the Random Forest (RF) model, a machine learning method based on sampled in situ soil data and environmental covariates. We collected 556 surface soil samples from the mountainous catchment (Tehri dam catchment) using the stratified random sampling approach. The model performed satisfactorily in both training (r 2  = 0.91; RMSE = 0.00185) and testing (r 2  = 0.45; RMSE = 0.00318) phases. Subsequently, we generated a digital map with a resolution of 12.5 m to depict the distribution of the K factor. Our analysis revealed that key environmental variables influencing the prediction of the K factor included geology, mean NDVI, and climatic factors. The average K factor value was estimated at 0.0304 and ranging from 0.0251 to 0.0400 t ha h ha -1  MJ -1  mm -1 . A higher K factor was observed in the barren land (0.0344) primarily located in the higher and trans-Himalayan region of seasonally snow-covered areas. These areas typically feature young soils with weak soil formation and unstable soil aggregates. Subsequently cropland/cultivated soils (0.0307) exhibited higher K factor values due to the breakdown of soil aggregates by ploughing activities and exposing carbon to decomposition. The average K factor value of evergreen (0.0294) and deciduous (0.0295) forests were the lowest compared to other land use/land cover types indicating the role of forests in resisting soil erosion. The blooming industrialization and urbanization is leading to increased mining operations. These intensified mining activities emit heavy metals into the environment, posing serious threats to ecosystems. Hence, this study focused on assessing heavy metal pollution in mining soil, utilizing mosses as bioindicators. The ecological risk, geo-accumulation factor, and contamination factor have been calculated to know the harmful effect of heavy metals on ecosystem. The study covered three distinct mining sites of eastern India within Odisha: Jajpur's Sukinda Valley (SP1, Cr), Keonjhar's Joda-Barbil (SP2, Fe and Mn), and Sundargarh's Koira-Joda (SP3, Fe). The collection of 48 soil samples through random sampling revealed significant variations in heavy metal concentrations. SP1 recorded Cr concentration of 6572 ± 445 mg/kg and Ni of 8042.47 ± 501.38 mg/kg, surpassing eco-toxicological levels. The storage site in SP2 exhibited the highest Fe concentration at 9872 ± 502 mg/kg, and Mn levels in SP3 were at 7884 ± 432 mg/kg. Storage areas in all three regions held the highest concentrations of heavy metals. Mosses in studied area demonstrated as potential bioindicators for monitoring heavy metal pollution. EF and I geo assessments showed Cd, Pb, Hg, and other heavy metal contamination compared to earlier investigations. This study indicated higher ecological risks for Pb, As, Cu, Ni, and Zn. The Hyophila involuta accumulates Mn, Cr, Cd, Pb, Fe, and Hg, while Barbula arcuata accumulates Mn, As, and Cu in SP1. Hyophila involuta and Trematodon longicollis accumulate Mn, Cr, Cd, Pb, Fe, Hg, and Zn in SP2. Trematodon ambiguous accumulates Cd, Fe, and Ni, while Fissidens diversifolius accumulates Mn, Cr, Hg, As, Cu, and Zn in SP3. Background: The World Health Organization Astana Declaration of 2018 sees primary healthcare as key to universal health coverage and gives further support to the goal of building sustainable models of community palliative care. Yet evaluating the benefits of such models continues to pose methodological and conceptual challenges., Objective: To explore evaluation issues associated with a community-based palliative care approach in Kerala, India., Design: An illuminative case study using a rapid evaluation methodology., Methodology: Qualitative interviews, documentary analysis and observations of home care and community organising., Results: We appraise a community palliative care programme in Kerala, India, using three linked 'canvases' of enquiry: (1) 'complex' multi-factorial community-based interventions and implications for evaluation; (2) 'axiological' orientations that foreground values in any evaluation process and (3) the status of evaluative evidence in postcolonial contexts. Three values underpinning the care process were significant: heterogeneity, voice and decentralisation. Introduction: Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) face numerous challenges in accessing dental care. Despite difficulties, more evidence exploring difficulties among this cohort in India is needed. This study aims to conduct a scoping review of articles published in India exploring access to dental care among individuals with IDD., Method: We followed the Arksey O'Malley framework for scoping reviews and the PRISMA guidelines for reporting studies. Findings were analyzed based on Levesque's framework for access., Results: Seventeen articles were collated from five databases. The perceived need for dental care was low, and dental visits were mainly need-based and infrequent. Knowledge regarding dental care did not translate to dental visits. Patient-related barriers were cost, transportation difficulties, fear, lack of dentist skills, patient behavior, and cooperation. From the providers' perspective, most dentists were willing to treat but noted infrastructural and knowledge-based limitations., Conclusion: Access to dental care was limited due to infrastructure constraints and a lack of dentist training. Caregivers and individuals with IDD did not prioritize dental health, faced communication barriers, and were afraid of dental procedures. It is important to improve preventive dental care and raise awareness among caregivers of individuals with IDD in India. The Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) and the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI), two drought indices, have been compared for interchangeability and reliability under various climatic conditions in Gujarat, India. As the quality of the input is crucial for the accuracy of the index, weather records from surface observatories are preferable over grid and reanalysis data. This study found that on a short timescale (1-3 months), SPEI diagnosed mild and moderate droughts more frequently than SPI, particularly in stations with relatively heavy rainfall. The indices in all timescales at all sites throughout the monsoon months displayed strong positive associations (r > 0.8). The correlation decreases but remains positive as the temporal scale is extended up to 8 months. On a 9-months or longer scales that encompassed active monsoon rainfall months at all stations, correlation coefficients were between 0.8 and 0.9 for all months of the year. During monsoon months, high fractional matches were observed on a short scale. The months after the monsoon show a generalized diagonal pattern of high fractional match with the timescale for all stations. The kappa statistic followed a broad pattern comparable to the match fractions. The instances with poor agreements (R, Match and kappa < 0.3) had proportional bias between the indices. South Asia, in particular, has seen limited development in this area of research, and applying existing models from other regions is challenging due to cost constraints and the region's distinct linguistics and behavior. Social media analysis, notably on platforms such as Facebook (Meta Platforms Inc), offers the potential for detecting major depressive disorder and aiding individuals at risk of suicidal ideation., Objective: This study primarily focuses on India and Bangladesh, both South Asian countries. It aims to construct a predictive model for suicidal ideation by incorporating unique, unexplored features along with masked content from both public and private Facebook profiles. Moreover, the research aims to fill the existing research gap by addressing the distinct challenges posed by South Asia's unique behavioral patterns, socioeconomic conditions, and linguistic nuances. Ultimately, this research strives to enhance suicide prevention efforts in the region by offering a cost-effective solution., Methods: This quantitative research study will gather data through a web-based platform. Initially, participants will be asked a few demographic questions and to complete the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire assessment. Eligible participants who provide consent will receive an email requesting them to upload a ZIP file of their Facebook data. To achieve global biodiversity targets, expanding protected area (PA) networks has been regarded as a major strategy in international commitments. However, the PA strategy often fails to achieve its objective - preserving biodiversity and ecosystem services. In addition, the expansion of PA areas could replicate and amplify historical injustices such as forced evictions, state-led physical violence, assimilation of culture and loss of traditional ecological knowledge, affecting communities' livelihood, quality of life and rights. There is an increasing consensus that the post-2020 biodiversity conservation framework should be rights-based and sensitive to the role and contributions of local communities towards achieving the PAs' targets. India's Forest Rights Act (FRA) 2006 may be considered a useful framework for biodiversity conservation in the context of this new conservation vision. It puts local people at the centre stage, making them active participants in designing and managing conservation. PAs following 'fortress conservation' approach were based on the flawed idea that human interference endangers biodiversity and therefore habitats should be preserved by force if required. Such an idea contradicts the recent understanding that ecosystems once perceived as 'wilderness', have been transformed by people. PAs undermine the intricate and intertwined relationship of humans with their immediate ecosystem. The conservation model proposed by FRA 2006, on the other hand, recognises local communities as an integral part of ecosystem and thereby acknowledges people's rights and agency in conservation. It ensures locals' equitable benefits from economic activities, and provides equitable opportunities to participate in decision-making. Though various provisions under FRA empowered local people in conservation, it faces various challenges during the implementation on the ground. Endophytes have drawn attentions due to their effectiveness in providing benefits to host and non-host plants. In this study endophytic bacteria were isolated from stem and leaf samples of medicinally important plants Rhododendron griffithianum Wight and Rhododendron arboreum Smith subsp. cinnamomeum (Wall. ex G. Don) grown at higher altitudes of Darjeeling, India. Two endophytic bacteria, Pseudomonas lurida RGDS03 and Bacillus velezensis RCDL12 were identified based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis. The endophytes exhibited indole acetic acid (IAA), gibberellic acid (GA), siderophore production, phosphate solubilization, nitrogen-fixing abilities, though B. velezensis RCDL12 showed superior production of IAA (126.04 ± 0.40 µg/mL), GA (241.00 ± 0.44 µg/mL), and phosphate (74.4 ± 0.41 µg/mL) solubilization as compared to P. lurida RGDS03. Purity of extracted IAA from these two endophytes was confirmed by HPLC and LC-MS analysis. In this study, P. lurida RGDS03 inhibited mycelial growth of two tested phytopathogens Phytophthora sp. and Pestalotiopsis sp. of broad host range. However, only against Pestalotiopsis sp. did B. velezensis RCDL12 exhibit antifungal activity. Study was conducted on growth promotion capabilities of isolates on rice and mung bean seedlings. P. lurida RGDS03, B. velezensis RCDL12 and consortium of both the strains reported with promising growth promotion on both rice (85-97%) and mung bean (86-99%) in terms of their seed germination, vegetative growth (root and shoot length, fresh and dry weight), and chlorophyll content as compared to the control plants (untreated). This study aimed to examine the barriers and facilitators of the public toward deceased organ donation in Chandigarh, and Chennai, India, from three major religious groups, Hinduism, Islamism, and Christianity. Twenty-five focus groups were conducted (n = 87) stratified by study region, religion, sex, and age. Data were analysed using framework analysis. The results revealed that individuals were primarily willing to donate their organs. However, their religious views regarding death, after-life beliefs, funeral ritual practices, and lack of knowledge regarding their religion's position toward deceased organ donation created tension and ambiguity in the decision-making. However, younger age groups (18-30 years) appeared more open and positive toward deceased organ donation. This review explores the concept of knowledge translation and its importance in bridging the gap between knowledge generation and implementation in medical sciences and applies this to the Indian healthcare scenario. The review then delves into India's technological prowess, exemplified by its digital health initiatives such as the CoWIN (winning over COVID-19) app and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, which provide a strong foundation for leveraging advanced technologies in healthcare. The authors discuss India's pharmaceutical industry, often referred to as the "pharmacy of the world," emphasizing its crucial role in global drug manufacturing and distribution. It also examines the country's emerging genomic research landscape, including initiatives such as GenomeIndia and the Indian Cancer Genome Atlas Foundation, which are pivotal for advancing personalized medicine. A significant portion of the review is dedicated to analyzing India's clinical trial ecosystem. It traces the evolution of regulatory frameworks governing clinical research in the country and highlights recent reforms that have made India an increasingly attractive destination for global studies, the potential adoption of innovative trial designs and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven analyses. Crucially, the authors confront the formidable obstacles inherent in India's complex healthcare landscape, illuminating the unique challenges that must be overcome. The review acknowledges India's underrepresentation in global clinical trials despite its large population and significant cancer burden. The issue of financial toxicity in cancer care is discussed, underscoring the need for affordable treatment options. The study also points out the nascent state of India's genomic databases, which account for only a small percentage of global genetic data. Despite these challenges, the authors posit that by effectively leveraging its information technology (IT) infrastructure, robust pharmaceutical sector, and large, diverse population, India has the potential to develop unique, country-specific solutions for cancer care. The study suggests that by fostering genomic research, strategically reforming its clinical trial ecosystem, and harnessing its digital capabilities, India could transform its cancer care landscape and emerge as a model for other developing nations in the Global South. In essence, this paper provides a roadmap for India's journey towards becoming a leader in PPCM, offering valuable insights for policymakers, healthcare professionals, and researchers in the field of oncology and precision medicine. The present study examines the current practices for managing construction and demolition waste (CDW) in two tier-2 cities of Karnataka state: Hubli-Dharwad and Davanagere. The research highlights the quantification, characterization, and effective management strategies for CDW. CDW dumping sites were identified through field visits conducted across all wards of the cities and recorded using a mobile-based app. At each site, data were collected on the types of vehicles dumping CDW, the frequency of dumping, the volume of waste in the vehicles, and the quantity of CDW removed for reuse. The dumping sites were categorized into large, medium, and small based on the area and volume of waste. In total, 130 unauthorised dumping sites were identified in Hubli-Dharwad and 62 in Davanagere. The study estimated that Hubli-Dharwad generates approximately 607 tonnes per day (TPD) of CDW, while Davanagere produces around 287 TPD. The characterization of CDW revealed that in Hubli-Dharwad, CDW consists of 14.4% concrete, 25.5% brick and mortar, 39.1% soil and aggregates, and 20% other materials. In Davanagere, the composition includes 19% concrete, 29% brick and mortar, 38% soil, and 14% other materials. Based on these findings, the study proposes a system for the collection and transportation of CDW and recommends suitable recycling technologies. While the approach outlined in this paper is well-suited for urban local bodies to assess CDW, the data on CDW reuse and recycling is primarily based on informal practices. This makes accurate quantification challenging and subject to variation over time due to a lack of regulatory oversight. Groundwater is an essential natural resource for mankind. Due to various geogenic and anthropogenic causes, groundwater quality has raised serious concern over the years. In this study, groundwater quality was evaluated for its suitability for irrigation in the Jorhat and Golaghat Districts of Assam, India. A total of 100 groundwater samples were collected from shallow aquifers (< 35 m) from different locations during the pre-monsoon season (March-April 2022). Groundwater in the study area is slightly alkaline in nature (mean pH value of 7.44). The average cations and anions chemistry are in the order of Na +  > Ca 2+ > Mg 2+  > K + and HCO 3 -  > Cl -  > SO 4 2-  > CO 3 2- , respectively. Ca-Mg-HCO 3 followed by Na-Ca-HCO 3 -Cl are the primary water types in the study area. Pearson's correlation matrix showed a positive correlation between TDS and EC (r = 0.78) and sodium showed a positive correlation with TDS and bicarbonate (r = 0.62 and r = 0.65), respectively. Gibbs plot indicated that rock-water interaction is the dominant factor that controls the chemistry of the groundwater of the area. Irrigation parameters like Sodium Absorption Ratio (SAR), Permeability Index (PI), Magnesium Absorption Ratio (MAR), Kelly's Ratio (KR), and Irrigation Water Quality Index (IWQI) indicated that groundwater is overall suitable for irrigation. The spread of antibiotic resistance (ABR) in uncommon human pathogens endangers global public health, escalating morbidity, death, and healthcare expenditures. Pantoea agglomerans, a member of the Erwiniaceae family that rarely infects humans, is emerging as a drug-resistant nosocomial pathogen. Seven P. agglomerans isolates were recovered from bacteremia patients at a tertiary care hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, between March 2022 and October 2022. The isolates were evaluated for phenotypic resistance, β-lactamase and plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) genes, plasmid profiling, and clonality assessment. All isolates were resistant to fluoroquinolones and third-generation cephalosporins, with four resistant to carbapenems. The following β-lactamases and PMQR genes were identified: bla OXA-1 (n = 1), bla TEM (n = 1), bla CTX-M-1 (n = 2), bla NDM (n = 5), bla OXA-181 (n = 1), qnrB (n = 2), and qnrS (n = 4). Six isolates carried up to seven plasmids ranging in size from 2 kb to > 212 kb. IncFI, FII, HI, and X3 plasmid types were detected in three isolates, while the rest remained untypable. Four different genetic patterns were noted. Four isolates were clonally related, with three being clonal. The swap of environmental isolates to human pathogens exacerbates the ABR dilemma, periling patient care and outcomes. This is the first report in India of a carbapenem-resistant P. agglomerans blood isolate carrying bla OXA-181 . Background: High body-mass index (BMI) is an established risk factor for late-life cognitive impairment and dementia, but most evidence comes from high-income contexts. Existing evidence from cross-sectional data in low- and middle-income settings is inconsistent, and many studies do not adequately address potential sources of bias., Methods: We used data from Wave 1 of the Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI) (analytic N = 56,753) to estimate the association between BMI categories and cognitive functioning among older adults aged 45 + years using survey-weighted linear regression models stratified by gender and controlling for potential confounders including demographic factors, socio-economic status (SES) characteristics, and health-related behaviors. To probe potential sources of bias, including residual confounding and reverse causation, we used weighting and trimming methods, sample restriction, and explored effect modification., Results: In fully adjusted models, relative to normal BMI underweight BMI was associated with lower cognitive scores (Men: -0.16 SD difference, 95% CI -0.18, -0.13; Women: -0.12 SD, -0.15, -0.10). Overweight and obesity were associated with higher cognitive scores in both men (overweight: 0.09; 0.07, 0.12, obese: 0.10; 0.05, 0.15) and women (overweight: 0.09; 0.07-0.12, obese: 0.12; 0.08-0.15). Estimates were similar after weighting and trimming but were attenuated after excluding those with low cognition (≥1 SD below the mean relative to those with similar demographic characteristics). Positive associations between overweight and obese BMI and cognition were attenuated or null in those living in urban settings and those with higher levels of educational attainment., Conclusions: Underweight BMI is a risk factor for poor cognitive outcomes in adults 45 years and older and may be indicative of poor nutritional status and life-course disadvantage in India. In tandem with existing literature, supplemental analyses and effect modification results indicate that unmeasured confounding and reverse causation may explain the observed positive associations between overweight and obese BMI and cognitive functioning from cross-sectional studies in low- and middle-income settings. Dwindling groundwater supplies threaten food security and livelihoods. Output subsidies for farmers are a ubiquitous agricultural policy tool, yet their contribution to growing groundwater stress remains poorly quantified. We show how output subsidies guaranteeing the purchase of crops at higher than market prices may have contributed substantially to declining water tables in India. Our analysis suggests that these policies may have led to a 30% over-production of water intensive crops. In the northwestern state of Punjab, rice procurement can potentially account for at least 50% of the groundwater table decline over 34 years. In the central state of Madhya Pradesh, wheat procurement adopted in the late 2000s appears to have driven a 5.3 percentage point increase in dry wells and a consequent 3.4 percentage point increase in deep tubewells. These results suggest that well-intentioned but poorly designed subsidies can impose harmful externalities on the environment and undermine long-term sustainable development., (© 2024. Fluoride (F¯) contamination in groundwater in India has gained global attention due to human health hazards. India's hydrogeological heterogeneity, spatio-temporal variability of F¯, and health hazards due to geogenic and geo-environmental control pose unique challenges. Addressing these with only a single region-specific study is not possible. Therefore, this study provides an in-depth, holistic analysis of pan India F¯ contamination, controlling factors, and health hazards using a coupled advanced geostatistical and geospatial approach. Alarming F¯ contaminations are identified in Rajasthan, Telangana, Western Andhra Pradesh, Eastern Karnataka, Parts of Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh. Probabilistic health-risk evaluation using hot-spot, showed similar spatio-temporal distribution of F¯ contamination. The hazard quotient (HQ) for high F¯ shows more adversity to children than adults. Nationally, 8.65 % and 7.10 % of pre- and post-monsoon sites exceed the recommended safe limit of 1.50 mg/L. The highest average F¯ concentration is in Rajasthan. Very high-risk skeletal fluorosis is possible at around ≤ 2 %, whereas dental caries due to deficiency in F¯ concentration is approximately 40 %. A decisive hierarchy of lithology, geomorphology, soils, and lineaments control are identified on F¯ contamination. Climatic conditions are pivotal in governing all these controlling variables. Thus, in arid/semi-arid dry western regions, F¯ contamination is much higher than in the humid areas. Groundwater pollution caused by fluoride is a significant concern for the global population owing to its toxicity, which has negative health consequences. Industrial discharges, agricultural practices, and improper waste disposal are primary concerns in evaluating the degree of fluoride contamination in the selected districts of Eastern India. In a targeted area sampling approach, exactly 196 samples were collected during pre- and post-monsoon, and precise fluoride detection was performed using Ion-Selective Electrodes. Fluoride levels in pre-monsoon water were observed within a range of 0.02 to 2.7 mg/L, with an average abundance of 0.4 ± 0.50. In post-monsoon, the concentration ranged from 0.02 to 4.7 mg/L (mean 0.53 ± 0.60). The study found that 97 % of groundwater samples had acceptable fluoride levels within the 1.5 mg/L limit during pre and post-monsoon. Moreover, approximately 87 % of the samples exhibit fluoride content below the 1 mg/L limit. The hazard quotient was observed to be 0.17 to 0.58 in adults, 0.23 to 0.79 in children and 0.36 to 1.26 in infants during pre-monsoon, whereas 0.05 to 0.55 in adults, 0.12 to 0.74 in children and 0.11to 1.19 in infants during post monsoon. The above data indicates that infants had the highest risk of fluoride exposure, with a significant negative correlation between fluoride and calcium ions. Fluoride had minimal to no link with other ions, a modest positive correlation with sulfate, and a weak negative relationship with overall hardness and alkalinity across both seasons. Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Green tea (Camellia sinensis) is a popular beverage consumed all over the world due to its health benefits. Many of these beneficial effects of green tea are attributed to polyphenols, particularly catechins., Aim of the Study: The present study focuses on underlying anti-platelet aggregation, anti-thrombotic, and anti-lipidemic molecular mechanisms of green tea in South Indian smokers., Materials and Methods: We selected 120 South Indian male volunteers for this study to collect the blood and categorised them into four groups; control group individuals (Controls), smokers, healthy control individuals consuming green tea, and smokers consuming green tea. Smokers group subjects have been smoking an average 16-18 cigarettes per day for the last 7 years or more. The subjects (green tea consumed groups) consumed 100 mL of green tea each time, thrice a day for a one-year period., Results: LC-MS analysis revealed the presence of multiple phytocompounds along with catechins in green tea extract. Increased plasma lipid peroxidation (LPO), protein carbonyls, cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL-cholesterol with decreased HDL-cholesterol levels were observed in smokers compared to the control group and the consumption of green tea showed beneficial effect. Furthermore, docking studies revealed that natural compounds of green tea had high binding capacity with 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-CoA reductase (HMG-CoA) when compared to their positive controls, whereas (-) epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) and (-) epicatechin-gallate (ECG) had high binding capacity with sterol regulatory element-binding transcription factor 1 (SREBP1c). Further, our ex vivo studies showed that green tea extract (GTE) significantly inhibited platelet aggregation and increased thrombolytic activity in a dose dependent manner., Conclusion: In conclusion, in smokers, catechins synergistically lowered oxidative stress, platelet aggregation and modified the aberrant lipid profile. Furthermore, molecular docking studies supported green tea catechins' antihyperlipidemic efficacy through strong inhibitory activity on HMG-CoA reductase and SREBP1c. Epidemiological analyses of environmental exposures often benefit from including spatial splines in models to account for confounding by spatial location. Understanding how the number of splines relates to physical spatial differences is not always intuitive and can be context-dependent. To address this, we developed a R Shiny application, spconfShiny, that provides a user-friendly platform to calculate an effective bandwidth metric that quantifies the relationship between spatial splines and the range of implied spatial smoothing. spconfShiny can be accessed at https://g2aging.shinyapps.io/spconfShiny/. We illustrate the procedure to compute the effective bandwidth and demonstrate its use for different numbers of spatial splines across England, India, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the United States. Using spconfShiny, we show the effective bandwidth increases with the size of the region and decreases with the number of splines. An attempt has been made to comprehend the ground water quality and climate impacts of the Chennai River basin, which is aimed at its main socio-economic growth of the state of Tamil Nadu. The ground water samples collected from the study area were analyzed for its hydrogeochemical elements. The ground water quality and irrigation suitability were determined using several water quality assessment metrics. Ground water is extensively utilized for irrigation in the entire basin area for the past two decades, especially in the 38 over-exploited Firkas out of the 109 Firkas of the basin. It is inferred that the phreatic aquifer ground water quality is fresh in about 20%, as indicated by the EC value (< 750 µs/cm) at 25 °C. In about 63% of the ground water indicating the moderately fresh showing the EC varies between 751 and 2250 µs/cm at 25 °C, 11% of ground water exerted an EC ranging between 2251 and 3000 µs/cm at 25 °C indicating that the ground water is slightly mineralized, and in about 6% of groundwater, the EC is > 3000 µs/cm at 25 °C indicating that the ground water is highly mineralized. There were no water samples that exceeded the permissible limit of chloride either in phreatic aquifer or in fracture aquifer. The changes in rainfall frequency and atmospheric temperature affect the ground water movement and storage directly and indirectly. Geomorphometric analysis using geomorphic indices is essential to comprehend the evolution of a river basin including denudation, surface runoff, subsurface infiltration, differential erosion, lithological variations, possible surface tilting, landslides, and the influence of geological formations and structure. Research in morphometric measurements continues to face many challenges and difficulties despite all the effort carried out. These include the inaccuracy of morphometric measurements and the time it takes to obtain the expected results in large basins. Under such condition, the purpose of the study is to conduct an analysis for the group of indices which includes SL index, transverse topographic symmetry factor, and hypsometry curve along with its integral value in the Mandakini Catchment. Examining the spatial distribution of knickzones has not been well documented, particularly in the Mandakini Catchment; hence, we further analyzed the spatial distribution of knickpoints, channel steepness index, and chi-index along with the longitudinal river profile. Through this analysis, we aim to determine how these indices collectively contribute to the comprehensive characterization of the landscape evolution within the study area and to find the landscape signatures of the uplift by comparing different river profiles. Various knickpoints were found mainly in the upper reaches at higher elevation, validated through aerial imagery and then through detailed field observation. During the field investigation, various geomorphic indicators such as fluvial terraces, entrenched river meandering, active landslides, extensive toe erosion, and waterfalls associated were observed. Groundwater is particularly vulnerable to pollution in places with a high population density and extensive human usage of the land, especially in southern parts of Tirupati, India. To assess this, 60 bore-well samples were obtained and assessed for physical specifications, ion chemistry, and heavy metals during the pre- and post-monsoon seasons 2022. The current investigation employed a modified integrated water quality index (IWQI), conventional graphical and human health risk assessment (HHRA) of nitrates and heavy metals to know the groundwater chemistry and its detrimental health effects on humans. The major ions were analyzed using American public health association (APHA) standards, whereas heavy metals were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Additionally, pH Redox Equilibrium and C (PHREEQC), a geochemical model written in C programming language was employed to determine the saturation indices of mineral facies and ArcGIS 10.3.1 was used for spatial distribution patterns of IWQI. Then, the HHRA of nitrates and heavy metals was performed using United States environmental protection agency (US EPA) guidelines. The noteworthy outcomes include elevated levels of Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , Cl - , NO 3 , Cu, Fe, Mn, and Pb, demonstrating rock-water interaction, silicate weathering, Ca-Mg-HCO3 followed by mixed water facies, dissolution/precipitation, reverse exchange, and anthropogenic contamination are the major controlling processes in groundwater of southern Tirupati, India. The modified IWQI reveals that most groundwater samples (38%) fall under the bad quality class, with (47%) in the poor quality class and only (15%) classified as medium quality class in pre- and post-monsoon seasons. Background: One of the most common and serious congenital defects is neural tube defect (NTD) in India. The data about the NTDs in India is lacking. The objective of this meta-analysis is to provide an estimate of NTDs in India with regional variations., Method: This study was conducted by doing a literature search using PubMed (Medline) and Embase databases for studies published from their inception to 1 October 2023 by using relevant keywords. We have prepared our study protocol by following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) checklist, and our study is registered in PROSPERO. Pooled prevalence was calculated by using the Der Simonian-Liard method and random effect model to find out the burden of NTD in India. Additionally, subgroup and sensitivity analyses were also performed. NHLBI (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute) tool was used for assessing the study quality., Results: A total of 1129 articles were identified by using the predefined keywords in which 27 articles were selected which were fitting the selection criteria defined in our study. The prevalence of NTDs in our meta-analysis was found to be 9.46 per 1000 births with a 95% confidence interval of 8.01 to 10.91 per 1000 births with significant heterogeneity with I2 of 99.15%., Conclusion: Our study highlights the increasing trend of NTDs over the past decades, with significant regional variation in India. Assam, located in the Northeast of India, is highly flood-prone, and the erosional and depositional processes highly influence the landforms. The formation and development of landforms are directly related to the geology, geomorphology, drainage basin characteristics, and soil types of the region. In the present study, a remote sensing and GIS-based geomorphodiversity index (GMI) assessment of Assam is performed using three sub-indices: geodiversity, morphometric diversity, and drainage diversity index. Sixty-six potential geomorphosites are identified with their geological, geomorphological, and GMI classes. With the help of a flood inundation map, the inundated area of each GMI class is calculated. According to the result, 27.02%, 10.76%, and 3.7% of the total area of Assam fall under moderate, high, and very high GMI classes, respectively. Barak Valley and Central Assam region exhibit high to very high GMI values. Geology and geomorphology have a strong influence on GMI values. About 22.32%, 28.33%, 37.18%, 38.25%, and 35.37% of areas with low, moderate, high, and very high GMI are inundated, respectively. This study determined that areas having high GMI can increase the geomorphological heritage value of the region and can play a significant role in promoting geotourism with an increase in the scientific, educational, and aesthetic value of geomorphosites. This piece of writing aims to eliminate online harassment and create a criticism-free online environment. In the paper, we have used a variety of attributes to evaluate a large number of Bengali comments. We communicate cleansed data utilizing machine learning (ML) methods and natural language processing techniques, which must be followed using term frequency and reverse document frequency (TF-IDF) with a count vectorizer. In addition, we used tokenization with padding to feed our deep learning (DL) models. Using mathematical visualization and natural language processing, online bullying could be detected quickly. Multi-layer Perceptron (MLP), K-Nearest Neighbors (K-NN), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Adaptive Boosting Classifier (AdaBoost), Logistic Regression Classifier (LR), Random Forest Classifier (RF), Bagging Classifier, Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD), Voting Classifier, and Stacking are employed in the research we conducted. We expanded our investigation to include different DL frameworks. Deep Neural Networks (DNN), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Convolutional-Long Short-Term Memory (C-LSTM), and Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) are all implemented. A large amount of data is required to precisely recognize harassing behavior. To rapidly recognize internet harassment written material, we combined two sets of data, producing 94,000 Bengali comments from different points of view. After understanding the ML and DL models, we can see that a hybrid model (MLP+SGD+LR) performed more effectively when compared to other models, its evaluation accuracy is 99.34%, precision is 99.34%, recall rate is 99.33%, and F1 score is 99.34% on multi-label class. The present investigation evaluates three satellite precipitation products (SPPs), Multi-Source Weighted-Ensemble Precipitation (MSWEP), Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC), Climate Hazard Infrared Precipitation with Station Data (CHIRPS), and two reanalysis datasets, namely, the ERA5 atmosphere reanalysis dataset (ERA5) and Indian Monsoon Data Assimilation and Analysis (IMDAA), against the good quality gridded reference dataset (1991-2022) developed by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The evaluation was carried out in terms of the rainfall detection ability and estimation accuracy of the products using metrics such as the false alarm ratio (FAR), probability of detection (POD), misses, root mean square error (RMSE), and percent bias (PBIAS). Among all the rainfall products, ERA5 had the best ability to capture rainfall events with a higher POD, followed by MSWEP. Both MSWEP and ERA5 had PODs of 70-100% in more than 90% of the grids and less than 35% of missing rainfall events in the entire Tamil Nadu. In the case of the rainfall estimation accuracy evaluation, the MSWEP exhibited superior performance, with lower RMSEs and biases ranging from - 25 to 25% at the annual and seasonal scales. In northeast monsoon (NEM), CHIRPS demonstrated a comparable performance to that of MSWEP in terms of the RMSE and PBIAS. Through an interdisciplinary approach, this paper provides an overview of the global consequences of SLR on coastal communities, exploring economic, social, and environmental impacts on agriculture, communities, and coastal areas. The study examines the displacement of communities and its impact on food security, infrastructure, tourism, and ecological loss based on a comprehensive literature review. This paper emphasizes the sustainable preservation of coastal ecosystems and the development of climate-resilient infrastructure. This research aims to offer a detailed understanding of the evolving landscape of coastal livelihoods, providing valuable insights for adaptive strategies, policy formulation, and sustainable development. Ultimately, this article contributes to the scientific discourse by shedding light on the complex dynamics between climate change, SLR, and coastal communities, guiding efforts toward a resilient and sustainable future. The insights are drawn from secondary data resources, including books, scholarly journals, and reports from organizations such as the IPCC and NOAA. Limited research has been conducted on microplastic (MP) contamination in the rivers of Goa. To address this gap, this study examines the levels of MP contamination in the surface water of the Zuari River, Goa. We investigate the abundance, characteristics (size, shape, colour, and polymer composition), and risk assessment of MPs. MPs were detected at all sampling stations in the Zuari River, with concentrations varying from 0.01 particles/L (S3) to 1.38 particles/L (S13). The average abundance of MPs in the water samples was 0.28 ± 0.35 particles/L. MPs were more common in the 0.3-1 mm size range (51.70%) than in the 1-5 mm range (48.30%). The most common MP shapes observed were fibers (37.88%) and fragments (29.66%). FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of polyethylene terephthalate, high-density polyethylene, polypropylene, and polyacrylamide carboxyl-modified MPs. The Pollution Load Index (PLI) showed an average value of 3.8, indicating significant contamination (PLI > 1). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed various degradation features such as pits, scratches, grooves, and cracks on the MPs surfaces, while energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) detected metals on the MP's surfaces. Arecanut palm is a commercially important plantation crop valued for its nut. In this investigation, we report the discovery of a putative novel arepavirus, named areca palm necrotic ringspot virus 2 (ANRSV2), in necrotic ringspot diseased areca palms in Bantwal, Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka, India through RNA-sequencing and transmission electron microscopy. Further, the presence of ANRSV2 in the diseased samples was confirmed through reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction assays. In addition, by mining public domain transcriptome data for arepaviral sequences, we identified a putative novel arepavirus in Psychotria rubra, a non-palm host. We recovered the genome sequences of the areca palm necrotic ringspot virus in honey bees, tomato, Onobrychis viciifolia, and Rhamnus heterophylla. These findings broaden our comprehension of arepaviral diversity and host range, and suggest an intriguing possibility of pollen-mediated arepaviral transmission that necessitates empirical validation.
