Background: Several studies have investigated the relationship between serum lactate dehydrogenase-to-albumin ratio (LAR) and the prognosis of cancers. However, no studies have explored the association between serum LAR and the survival of oral cancer (OC). This study was aimed to determine the association of serum LAR with the overall survival (OS) of OC., Methods: One hundred and ninety patients with OC were included in this study between January 2018 and December 2019. Log rank test and Kaplan-Meier method were used to compare the survival rate of OC between the low LAR group and the high LAR group. The association between serum LAR and the survival of OC patients was determined via univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses., Results: Kaplan-Meier analysis and Log rank test indicated that the OS rate in low LAR group was significantly higher than that in high LAR group ( P < 0.05). Univariate cox analysis showed that TNM III-IV stage, serum LDH > 162 U/L, and serum LAR > 3.79 were significantly associated with the OS of OC patients. Multivariate Cox analysis suggested that the TNM III-IV stage (HR, 2.317; 95% CI, 1.423-3.774, P = 0.001) and serum LAR > 3.79 (HR, 5.138; 95% CI, 2.245-11.756, P = 0.000) were independently related with poor OS of OC patients., Conclusion: High serum LAR (>3.79) is an independent predictor of adverse prognosis in OC patients. Objective: Carotid plaque vulnerability is a significant factor in the risk of cardiocerebrovascular events, with intraplaque neovascularization (IPN) being a crucial characteristic of plaque vulnerability. This study investigates the value of ultrasound vector flow imaging (V-flow) for measuring carotid plaque wall shear stress (WSS) in predicting the extent of IPN., Methods: We enrolled 140 patients into three groups: 53 in the plaque group (72 plaques), 23 in the stenosis group (27 plaques), and 64 in the control group. V-flow was used to measure WSS parameters, including the average WSS (WSS mean) and the maximum WSS (WSS max), across three plaque locations: mid-upstream, maximum thickness, and mid-downstream. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound examination was used in 76 patients to analyze IPN and its correlation with WSS parameters., Results: WSS max in the stenosis group was significantly higher than that in the control and plaque groups at the maximum thickness part (P < .05) and WSS mean in the stenosis group was significantly lower than that in the control group at the mid-upstream and mid-downstream segments (P < .05). WSS mean in the plaque group was significantly lower than that of the control group at all three locations (P < .05). Contrast-enhanced ultrasound examination revealed that plaques with neovascularization enhancement exhibited significantly higher WSS values (P < .05), with a positive correlation between WSS parameters and IPN enhancement grades, particularly WSS max at the thickest part (r = 0.508). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of WSS parameters for evaluating IPN showed that the efficacy of WSS max in evaluating IPN was better than that of WSS mean (P < .05), with an area under the curve of 0.7762 and 0.6973 (95% confidence intervals, 0.725-0.822 and 0.642-0.749, respectively). The cut-offs were 4.57 Pa and 1.12 Pa, sensitivities were 74.03% and 63.64%, and specificities were 75.00% and 68.18%., Conclusions: V-flow effectively measures WSS in carotid plaques. Objective: The sequelae of pelvic inflammatory disease (SPID) are major causes of secondary infertility. Modified Hongteng Baijiang decoction (MHTBD) has produced positive results in the treatment of patients with chronic pelvic inflammatory disease; however, its role in SPID remains elusive. Therefore, this study clarified the role of MHTBD in SPID pathogenesis., Methods: The main components in MHTBD were analyzed by using liquid chromatography‒mass spectrometry (LC/MS). An SPID rat model was established, and the rats were treated with different doses of MHTBD (0.504 g of raw drug/kg, 1.008 g of raw drug/kg, and 2.016 g of raw drug/kg). Endometrial pinopodes were observed via scanning electron microscopy, endometrial thickness and inflammatory cell infiltration were assessed via HE staining, and the expression of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), integrin β3 (ITGB3), and CD31 in the endometrium was detected by using immunohistochemistry. Western blot analysis was used to detect the protein expression of LIF, JAK2, p-JAK2, STAT3, and p-STAT3 in the endometrium. Moreover, the changes in the gut microbiota were analyzed via 16S rRNA sequencing., Results: MHTBD improved endometrial receptivity, attenuated endometrial pathologic damage, reduced inflammatory cell infiltration, decreased ER and PR expression in the endometrium, and promoted the expression of LIF, p-JAK2, and p-STAT3 in the endometrium (p < .05) in SPID rats. Additionally, MHTBD treatment affected the composition of the gut microbiota in SPID rats. Furthermore, MHTBD attenuated endometrial receptivity and pathological damage in SPID rats by promoting the LIF/JAK2/STAT3 pathway., Conclusion: MHTBD attenuates SPID in rats by promoting the LIF/JAK2/STAT3 pathway and improving the composition of the gut microbiota. Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the variances in transcriptome gene expression of normal oral mucosa-derived mesenchymal stem cell (OM-MSC), oral leukoplakia-derived MSC (OLK-MSC) and oral squamous cell carcinoma-derived MSC(OSCC-MSC). as Additionally, the study aims to compare the in vitro proliferation, migration, invasion ability, and response to photodynamic therapy (PDT) of these three MSC, HOK, DOK, leuk1, and Cal27 cell lines., Methods: HOK, DOK, leuk1, Cal27 cells were cultured in vitro. 3 MSC cells were obtained from OM, OLK, OSCC tissue (n = 3) and identified through flow cytometry. They were also cultured in vitro for osteogenic and lipogenic-induced differentiation. Based on the Illumina HiSeq high-throughput sequencing platform, OM-MSC, OLK-MSC, OSCC-MSC (n = 3) were subjected to transcriptome sequencing, functional annotation, and enrichment analysis of differentially expressed genes and related genes. CCK8 assay, wound healing assay, and transwell assay were performed to compare the proliferation, migration, and invasion of the seven types of cells. The 7 cells were incubated with 0, 0.125 mM, 0.25 mM, 0.5 mM, 1 mM, and 2 mM of the photosensitizer (5-aminolevulinic acid, 5-ALA) in vitro. Subsequently, they were irradiated with a 150 mM, 635 nm laser for 1 min, and the cell activity was detected using the CCK8 assay after 24 h. The mitochondrial changes in the 7 cells before and after the treatment of PDT were detected using the JC-10 probe, and the changes in ATP content were measured before and after the PDT treatment., Results: OM-MSC, OLK-MSC, and OSCC-MSC expressed positive MSC surface markers. After osteogenic and lipogenic-induced differentiation culture, stained calcium nodules and lipid droplets were visible, meeting the identification criteria of MSC. Pathway enrichment analysis revealed that the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) of OSCC-MSC compared to OLK-MSC were primarily associated with the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and tumor-related pathways. OSCC-MSC exhibited stronger migratory and invasive abilities compared to Cal27. The IC50 values required for OM, OLK, and OSCC-derived MSC were lower than those required for epithelial cells treated with PDT, which were 1.396 mM, 0.9063 mM, and 2.924 mM, respectively. Cell membrane and mitochondrial disruption were observed in seven types of cells after 24 h of PDT treatment. However, HOK, DOK, leuk1, and Cal27 cells had an ATP content increased., Conclusions: OLK, OSCC epithelial cells require higher concentrations of 5-ALA for PDT treatment than MSC of the same tissue origin. The concentration of 5-ALA required increases with increasing cell malignancy. Tubal inflammation, endometritis, and uterine adhesions due to post-pelvic inflammatory disease (SPID) are important causes of infertility. Chronic endometritis (CE) belongs to SPID, which seriously affects women's reproductive health, quality of life, and family harmony, and is a hot and difficult problem in clinical research. The efficacy of Pen Yan Kang Fu Decoction (PYKFD) has been verified in long-term clinical practice for chronic endometritis infertility caused by the SPID. Numerous studies have confirmed that the LIF/JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway is important in embryo implantation and development, and endometritis infertility is close to LIF/JAK2/STAT3. In vivo results showed that PYKFD increased endometrial receptivity, repaired uterine tissue damage, and regulates the expression of endometrial receptivity-related factors ER (estrogen receptor), PR (progesterone receptor), CD31, and integrin αvβ3, and induced the transduction of LIF/JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway. PYKFD can also regulate the expression of IL-6. The results of in vitro experiments showed that PYKFD regulates the behavior of rat endometrial epithelial cells (REECs) involving LIF. The growing need for the multiband photodetection of a single scene has promoted the development of both multispectral coupling and broadband detection technologies. Photodetectors operating across the infrared (IR) to terahertz (THz) regions have many applications such as in optical communications, sensing imaging, material identification, and biomedical detection. In this review, we present a comprehensive overview of the latest advances in broadband photodetectors operating in the infrared to terahertz range, highlighting their classification, operating principles, and performance characteristics. We discuss the challenges faced in achieving broadband detection and summarize various strategies employed to extend the spectral response of photodetectors. Lastly, we conclude by outlining future research directions in the field of broadband photodetection, including the utilization of novel materials, artificial microstructure, and integration schemes to overcome current limitations. These innovative methodologies have the potential to achieve high-performance, ultra-broadband photodetectors.

Background: Salpingitis obstructive infertility (SOI) refers to infertility caused by abnormal conditions such as tubal adhesion and blockage caused by acute and chronic salpingitis. SOI has a serious impact on women's physical and mental health and family harmony, and it is a clinical problem that needs to be solved urgently.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to explore the potential pharmacological mechanisms of the Yinjia tablets (Yin Jia Pian, YJP) on tubal inflammation.

Methods: Networks of YJP-associated targets and tubal inflammation-related genes were constructed through the STRING database. Potential targets and pathway enrichment analysis related to the therapeutic efficacy of YJP were identified using Cytoscape and Database for Annotation, Visualization, and Integrated Discovery (metascape). E. coli was used to establish a rat model of tubal inflammation and to validate the predictions of network pharmacology and the therapeutic efficacy of YJP. H&E staining was used to observe the pathological changes in fallopian tubes. TEM observation of the ultrastructure of the fallopian tubes. ELISA was used to detect the changes of IL-6 and TNF-α in fallopian tubes. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of ESR1. The changes of Bcl-2, ERK1/2, p-ERK1/2, MEK, p-MEK, EGFR, and p-EGFR were detected by western blot.

Results: Through database analysis, it was found that YJP shared 105 identical targets with the disease. Network pharmacology analysis showed that IL-6, TNF, and EGFR belong to the top 5 core proteins associated with salpingitis, and EGFR/MEK/ERK may be the main pathway involved. The E. coli -induced disease rat model of fallopian tube tissue showed damage, mitochondrial disruption, and increased levels of the inflammatory factors IL-6 and TNF-α. Tubal inflammatory infertility rats have increased expression of Bcl-2, p-ERK1/2, p-MEK, and p-EGFR, and decreased expression of ESR1. In vivo, experiments showed that YJP improved damage of tissue, inhibited shedding of tubal cilia, and suppressed the inflammatory response of the body. Furthermore, YJP inhibited EGFR/MEK/ERK signaling, inhibited the apoptotic protein Bcl-2, and upregulated ESR1.

Conclusion: This study revealed that YJP Reducing tubal inflammation and promoting tissue repair may be associated with inhibition of the EGFR/MEK/ERK signaling pathway.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are a heterogeneous cell population that plays a crucial role in remodeling the tumor microenvironment (TME). Here, through the integrated analysis of spatial and single-cell transcriptomics data across six common cancer types, we identified four distinct functional subgroups of CAFs and described their spatial distribution characteristics. Additionally, the analysis of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data from three additional common cancer types and two newly generated scRNA-seq datasets of rare cancer types, namely epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma (EMC) and mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC), expanded our understanding of CAF heterogeneity. Cell-cell interaction analysis conducted within the spatial context highlighted the pivotal roles of matrix CAFs (mCAFs) in tumor angiogenesis and inflammatory CAFs (iCAFs) in shaping the immunosuppressive microenvironment. In patients with breast cancer (BRCA) undergoing anti-PD-1 immunotherapy, iCAFs demonstrated heightened capacity in facilitating cancer cell proliferation, promoting epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and contributing to the establishment of an immunosuppressive microenvironment. Furthermore, a scoring system based on iCAFs showed a significant correlation with immune therapy response in melanoma patients. Early animal models are examined, followed by a discussion of study parameters and their impact on modeling success, subsequent considerations of fertility measures in modeling, explorations of treatment options, and finally exploring recent directions with a brief discussion of models using other bacterial pathogens., (© 2023. Aim: To evaluate the current literature on the effect of ICU diaries on the quality of life of ICU survivors and their relatives., Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis., Methods: We searched the online databases Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, CNKI and WanFang from inception to April 2021. Cochrane Risk of Bias Assessment Tool and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) were used to assess the methodological quality., Results: Seven studies were identified. ICU diaries improved the QoL of ICU survivors (SMD 0.79, 95% CI 0.24-1.34), and a small study described no benefit of diaries in improving the QoL of relatives., Conclusion: This meta-analysis revealed the use of ICU diaries to improve the QoL in survivors, but the ICU diaries do not have a beneficial effect on the QoL in relatives. The suppression of the crosstalk in a CMOS THz detector is essential for enhancing the performance of detector arrays; however, it presents several technical challenges at the chip level. In this paper, a novel structure featuring a mushroom-like artificial magnetic conductor (M-AMC) is developed to suppress the crosstalk between CMOS THz detectors with on-chip antennas. Three-dimensional simulation results show that the M-AMC structure, which is designed by metal Al and doped-Si materials in the CMOS process, not only reduces the transmission coefficient of the electromagnetic wave between adjacent pixels but also enhances the electric field of the target pixels. A 0.65 THz detector array with a M-AMC structure based on the on-chip antenna was fabricated. Experimental results present that after implanting the M-AMC structure, the noise equivalent power (NEP) at the central frequency of pixels significantly decreases by 315.5%. Moreover, the distribution of NEP becomes more uniform, as evidenced by a reduction in the standard deviation coefficient of 26.3%. This demonstrates the effectiveness of the method in suppressing crosstalk and improving the responsivity of CMOS THz detectors, which can be used for high-performance THz detector arrays.

In this work, an urchin-like Ni@Ni 2 P@NiCoP (Ni@NP@NCP) composite was prepared on nickel foam by a simple hydrothermal treatment process. Using the prepared NiO nanosheets as templates, the NiCo precursor was prepared in the presence of three solvothermal systems of water/dimethylformamide (DMF)/dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) by the hydrothermal process. After mixing and calcining with sodium hypophosphite under a nitrogen atmosphere at a high temperature for phosphating, an urchin-like Ni@NP@NCP(F/SO/H) nanostructured catalyst was obtained with superior hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution performance. To further explore their efficiency in seawater splitting. Ni@NP@NCP(F/SO/H) composites were used as the cathode and anode of an electrolytic cell, which delivered 1.822 V potential at 300 mA cm -2 in simulated seawater (1 M KOH and 0.5 M NaCl). This may provide an effective way of developing clean energy.

Seven tumor necrosis factor receptor- (TNFR-) associated factors (TRAFs) have been found in mammals, which are primarily involved in the signal translation of the TNFR superfamily, the Toll-like receptor (TLR) family, and the retinoic acid-inducible gene I- (RIG-I-) like receptor (RLR) family. TRAF3 is one of the most diverse members of the TRAF family. It can positively regulate type I interferon production while negatively regulating signaling pathways of classical nuclear factor- κ B, nonclassical nuclear factor- κ B, and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). Rationale: The existing particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms are only effective in deconvoluting the overlapping peaks in ion mobility spectra with fewer than four component peaks, which limits the applicability of these algorithms., Methods: A high-performance two-step particle swarm optimization (TSPSO) algorithm was developed. Compared to the existing PSO algorithms, TSPSO can narrow the search ranges of all coefficients for the overlapping peaks through Gaussian model calculation, and thus can deconvolute various overlapping peaks with high accuracy, even for 30-component overlapping peaks. In addition, the TSPSO could be further applied to enhance the resolution of the spectra by narrowing the peak widths after the peak deconvolution., Results: Simulated overlapping peaks were first used to evaluate the performance of TSPSO as compared to the dynamic inertia weight particle swarm optimization (DIWPSO) algorithm. The results showed that the profiles of the peaks deconvoluted by using TSPSO were more consistent with the original ones. The fitness values and the standard deviations of the fitness values from TSPSO were also at least an order of magnitude less than those from DIWPSO. By applying TSPSO, the overlapping peaks from both mass spectrometry (MS) and field asymmetric waveform ion mobility spectrometry (FAIMS) spectra can also be well deconvoluted. In addition, the resolutions of the MS and FAIMS spectra can be effectively enhanced after peak deconvolution. The enhanced spectra matched excellently with the experimental ones acquired at high-resolution modes., Conclusions: The experiment results convincingly demonstrate that the TSPSO algorithm is capable of both deconvoluting complex overlapping peaks and enhancing the spectrum resolution with high accuracy., (© 2022 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)

Perinatal hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy is the leading cause of neonatal death and permanent neurological deficits, while the basal ganglia is one of the major nuclei that is selectively and greatly affected in the brains of hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy patients, especially in severe cases. Human embryonic stem cell-derived neurons have shown great potential in different types of brain disorders in adults. However, it remains unknown whether and how grafted human embryonic stem cell-derived neurons can repair immature brains with hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy. Here, by administrating genetically labelled human embryonic stem cell-derived striatal neural progenitors into the ipsilateral striatum of hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy-injured mice, we found that the grafted cells gradually matured into GABA spiny projection neurons morphologically and electrophysiologically, and significantly rescued the area loss of hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy-injured brains. Intriguingly, using immunohistochemical staining combined with enhanced ascorbate peroxidase-based immunoelectron microscopy and rabies virus-mediated trans-synaptic tracing, we show that the grafts start to extend axonal projections to the endogenous target areas (globus pallidus externa, globus pallidus internus, substantia nigra), form synapses with host striatal, globus pallidus and nigra neurons, and receive extensive and stable synaptic inputs as early as 2 months post-transplantation. Importantly, we further demonstrated functional neural circuits re-established between the grafted neurons and host cortical, striatal and substantial nigra neurons at 3-6 months post-transplantation in the hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy-injured brain by optogenetics combined with electrophysiological recording. Finally, the transplanted striatal spiny projection neurons but not spinal GABA neurons restored the motor defects of hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy, which were reversed by clozapine-N-oxide-based inhibition of graft function. These findings demonstrate anatomical and functional reconstruction of the basal ganglia neural circuit including multiple loops by striatal spiny projection neurons in hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy-injured immature brains, which raises the possibility of such a cell replacement therapeutic strategy for hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy in neonates., (© The Author(s) 2022. Objective: The temporal pattern of cognitive and functional change before and after incident diabetes remains unknown., Research Design and Methods: Data from wave 2 to wave 9 (2004-2018) of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing were used. Global cognition (assessed by orientation, memory, and executive function) and daily functioning (calculated as the sum of impaired basic and instrumental activities of daily living) were measured in each wave. Incident diabetes was defined as glycated hemoglobin A1c ≥6.5% (47.5 mmol/mol), self-reported doctor diagnosis of diabetes, or glucose-lowering medication use during follow-up., Results: Among the 6,342 participants (mean age 65.0 years, 57.8% women) included, 576 participants (9.1%) with incident diabetes were identified during a median follow-up of 13.3 years. The annual rates of change in global cognition (β = -0.035 SD/year; 95% CI -0.054 to -0.015), orientation (-0.031 SD/year; -0.060 to -0.002), memory (-0.016 SD/year; -0.029 to -0.003), and executive function (-0.027 SD/year; -0.042 to -0.013) were accelerated after diabetes diagnosis compared with before the event. The postdiabetes annual changes in daily functioning (0.093 points/year; 95% CI 0.056-0.131) were also accelerated compared with the prediabetes diagnosis. However, the rate of cognitive and functional decline before the diabetes diagnosis in participants with future incident diabetes was similar to the rate in participants without diabetes. Also, no significant acute change was observed during its onset., Conclusions: Incident diabetes is associated with accelerated cognitive and functional decline after, but not before, the event. By deducing a formula to compute a sample from recorded diffraction intensity directly and analytically, the relationship among the highest reachable resolution of the ptychographic iterative engine (PIE), its illumination angle, and its collection angle was discussed analytically. Curved illumination was then proposed to realize the resolution enhancement for PIE, and a corresponding computing algorithm was proposed to avoid an undersampling effect without increasing the size of the computing matrix, thus realizing speedy high-resolution PIE imaging with a simple experimental setup. While theoretical analysis was carried out, the feasibility of this proposed method was verified both numerically and experimentally.

Microbolometers based on the CMOS process has the important advantage of being automatically merged with circuits in the fabrication of larger arrays, but they typically suffer from low detectivity due to the difficulty in realizing high-sensitivity thermistors in the CMOS process. In this paper, two resistive microbolometers based on polysilicon and metal Al thermistors, respectively, are designed and fabricated by the standard CMOS process. Experimental results show that the detectivity of the two resistive microbolometers can reach a maximum of 1.78 ´ 10 9 cmHz 1/2 /W at 25 μA and a maximum of 6.2 ´ 10 8 cmHz 1/2 /W at 267 μA. The polysilicon microbolometer exhibits better detectivity at lower bias current due to its lower effective thermal conductivity and larger resistance. Even though the thermal time constant of the polysilicon thermistor is three times slower than that of the metal Al thermistor, the former is more suitable for designing a thermal imaging system with sensitive and low power consumption.

Background: To evaluate the risk factors of postoperative delirium (POD) in elderly gastric cancer (GC) patients after laparoscopic gastrectomy and construct a predictive model., Methods: Elderly GC patients undergoing laparoscopic gastrectomy were enrolled and grouped based on the status of POD development within postoperative 7 days. Independent risk factors were selected out by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses and then enrolled in the nomogram prediction model., Results: A total of 270 elderly GC patients were enrolled, and POD occurred in 74 (27.4%) patients within postoperative 7 days. The results of multivariate regression analysis indicated that age (OR: 3.30, 95% CI: 1.41-6.85, P < 0.001), sleeping pills (OR: 1.87, 95% CI: 1.12-3.09, P = 0.012), duration of ICU stay (OR: 1.55, 95% CI: 1.02-2.37, P = 0.029), albumin/fibrinogen ratio (AFR) (OR: 1.74, 95% CI: 1.03-2.76, P = 0.019), and neutrophils/lymphocytes ratio (NLR) (OR: 2.12, 95% CI: 1.11-4.01, P = 0.016) were five independent risk factors for POD in elderly GC patients. The AUC of the constructed nomogram model based on these five factors was 0.807., Conclusions: This study highlighted that age, AFR, NLR, sleeping pills taking, and duration of ICU stay were independent risk factors for POD, and the nomogram model based on these factors could effectively predict POD in elderly GC patients., (© 2022. Oligodendrocyte spheroids (OL-spheroids) containing oligodendrocytes and neurons provide an accessible system to dissect demyelinating diseases and test therapeutic treatment. However, generation of human OL-spheroids is still technically challenging and time-consuming until now. Here, we presented evidence that overexpression of SOX10 and OLIG2 (SO) in human embryonic stem cells (hESCs)-derived ventral forebrain neural progenitors is sufficient to produce forebrain pre-oligodendrocytes (pre-OLs) and mature oligodendrocytes (OLs) within 20-40 days. More importantly, optimizing this procedure by overexpression of SO in ventral forebrain spheroids, we successfully generated OL-spheroids with pre-OLs, mature OLs, and neurons 40 days after OL-induction. We further demonstrated oligodendrocyte-neuron interactions and obvious axon myelination in OL-spheroids. Finally, over 30% cells developed into mature oligodendrocytes with forebrain identity and myelinate axons in mouse brain 3 months after transplantation. Sequela of pelvic inflammatory disease (SPID) is a common and frequently occurring disease clinically. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) provided unique advantages in the treatment of SPID. In this study, we aimed to investigate the protective mechanism of Shipi Shugan Decoction (SSD), a Chinese herbal formula, on SPID using a SPID rat model. Mixed bacterial infection and mechanical injury were used for modeling. The chemical composition of SSD was analyzed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS). The inflammatory factors were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and western blot techniques. We found that SSD dose-dependently inhibited the content of IL-18, IL-1 β , TNF- α , and IL-6 in serum samples of SPID rats. The results from the hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain showed that SSD improved pathological injury of the uterus and fallopian tubes induced by a pathogen. In addition, SSD dose-dependently inhibited mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress of SPID rats. The expression of SIRT1 was promoted, and NLRP3 inflammasome was deactivated by SSD gavage compared with the SPID group. Specifically, SIRT1 inhibitor EX-527 cotreatment significantly reversed the improvement effect of SSD on pelvic inflammatory disease in rats. Background and Aim: Previous studies on cardiovascular risk burden assessed by the Framingham General Cardiovascular Risk Score (FGCRS) and cognitive trajectories mainly focus on Western populations and most of them have used a single measure of cardiovascular risk. In this study, among middle-aged and older Chinese, we investigated (i) the association of baseline FGCRS with subsequent cognitive decline and (ii) the association of FGCRS change with concomitant cognitive decline., Materials and Methods: In wave 1 to wave 4 (2011-2018) of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study, global cognition was assessed by orientation, memory, and executive function. FGCRS was assessed and categorized into tertiles (low, intermediate, and high) at baseline (2011) and 4 years after (2015). Furthermore, external validation was performed to check its generalizability using the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) 2008-2018., Results: In total, 6,402 participants with a mean [standard deviation (SD) age of 57.8 (8.4) years, 49.0% women] with complete baseline data and at least one reassessment of cognitive function were included. A 10% increment in baseline FGCRS was associated with a faster decline in global cognition (-0.010 SD/year, 95% CI -0.013, -0.008). Among 4,336 participants [mean (SD) age of 57.8 (8.2) years, 50.0% women] with data on FGCRS changes, compared to individuals with the consistently low FGCRS (reference group), a faster global cognition decline rate was observed in the low to intermediate group (-0.026 SD/year, 95% CI -0.045, -0.007), the low to high group (-0.052 SD/year, 95% CI -0.102, -0.001), the consistently intermediate group (-0.019 SD/year, 95% CI -0.033, -0.005), the intermediate to high group (-0.040 SD/year, 95% CI -0.058, -0.022), the high to intermediate group (-0.024 SD/year, 95% CI -0.047, -0.002), and the consistently high group (-0.047 SD/year, 95% CI -0.060, -0.034). Similar trends were observed for individual cognitive domains. Results from the external validation using the ELSA remained consistent., Conclusion: Higher baseline FGCRS was associated with faster cognitive decline. Surface treatment after dry etching is vital to enhance the surface quality of the material and thus improve device performance. In this Letter, we identified the majority surface states induced by the dry etching of β-Ga 2 O 3 and optimized surface treatments to suppress these electrically active defects with the improved performance of Schottky barrier diodes. Transient spectroscopies suggested that the majority traps ( E C -0.75 eV) related to divacancies (V Ga -V O ) were enhanced in the concentration of 3.37 × 10 14 cm -3 by dry etching and reduced to 0.90 × 10 14 cm -3 by the combined means of oxygen annealing and piranha solution treatment. The trap evolution is supported by the suppressed donor-acceptor pair radiative recombination related to oxygen vacancies, the improved carrier transport (negligible hysteresis current-voltage and unity ideality factor), and the reduced surface band bending. These findings provide a straightforward strategy to improve surface quality for the further performance improvement of Ga 2 O 3 power diodes.

The high-quality semipolar (112̅2) AlGaN epitaxial films have been obtained on m-plane sapphire by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition. X-ray rocking curve measurements show the full-width at half-maximums of semipolar (112̅2)-oriented AlGaN films are 0.357° and 0.531° along [112̅3̅] AlGaN and [11̅00] AlGaN , respectively. The fabricated semipolar AlGaN metal-semiconductor-metal solar-blind ultraviolet (UV) photodetector (PD) exhibits a high responsivity of 1842 A/W. The fast response and reliability of the UV PD are ensured via fast switching with a rise and decay time of 90 ms and 53(720) ms, respectively. The UV PD exhibits a significant reduction in the dark current, that is, from 100 μA to 780 fA at 10 V, using a simple wet chemical etching to modify the surface properties of materials. The photo-to-dark-current ratio value of the etched UV PD reaches 4 orders of magnitude higher than the unetched UV PD under 270 nm illumination. These are attributed to the fact that KOH wet etching assists in eliminating the surface states and reconstructing the surface oxides. This work might provide a new potential for the development of solar-blind UV PDs with high performance.

The association between polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and male reproductive dysfunction has attracted increasing attention. The purpose of this study was to compare the male reproductive toxicity of multiple PAHs and to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms. TM4 cells (mouse testicular Sertoli cells, SCs) were treated with benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), pyrene (Py), fluoranthene (Fl) and phenanthrene (Phe) (0, 0.1, 1, 10, 50, or 100 μM) for varying time points (4, 12, 24, or 48 h), and male C57BL/6 mice were administered BaP and Py (0, 10, 50, or 100 mg/kg body weight) for 14 days based on the cell experimental results. Histopathological examination, western blotting, ELISA, biochemical assays, RT-PCR, flow cytometry, JC-1 staining and trans-epithelium electrical resistance (TEER) measurements were used to assess apoptosis, blood-testis barrier (BTB) integrity, intracellular calcium ([Ca 2+ ] i ) concentrations and oxidative stress (OS). The results revealed that the mRNA levels and enzymatic activities of CYP450 and GST family members; levels of ROS, MDA, cleaved caspase 3 (c-caspase 3), caspase 9, Bax, and cytochrome C (CytC); and numbers of TUNEL-positive cells were significantly increased by BaP and Py, while levels of AhR, GSH, SOD, CAT, Bcl-2 and ΔΨm were decreased. Additionally, BaP and Py notably interfered with tight junctions (TJs) and adherens junctions (AJs) in the BTB. Intriguingly, BaP, but not Py, induced [Ca 2+ ] i overload and gap junction (GJ) destruction. There was no dramatic effect of Fl and/or Phe on any of the above parameters except that slight cytotoxicity was observed with higher doses of Fl. Collectively, these findings showed that BaP and Py elicited SC apoptosis and BTB disruption involving mitochondrial dysfunction and OS, but [Ca 2+ ] i fluctuation and GJ injury were only observed with BaP-induced reproductive toxicity. Background: Cerium dioxide nanoparticles (CeO 2 NPs) are increasingly used as diesel additive, causing a lot of concern about their toxic effects when released into the atmosphere. To date, there is little knowledge about the toxic effects of CeO 2 NPs on the female reproductive system., Methods: The morphology and size distribution of CeO 2 NPs was observed by transmission electronic microscope (TEM) and Zetasizer Nano, respectively. The uptake of CeO 2 NPs by cells was also observed by TEM after treatment. The cytotoxicity of CeO 2 NPs was studied by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8), the cellular invasive and migratory ability was examined by transwell assay, the cell apoptosis and reactive oxygen species (ROS) were studied by flow cytometry (FCM), and the mRNAs and proteins expressions were revealed by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and western blotting. The cytoskeletons and autophagy levels were revealed by immunofluorescence. The target regulation of miR-99 to mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) was proved by dual luciferase reporter assay after transfection., Results: We studied the cytotoxic effects of CeO 2 NPs on human trophoblastic cells (HTR-8/Svneo) and found that the invasive and migratory abilities of HTR-8/SVneo cells were decreased after CeO 2 NPs exposure. Immunofluorescence assays showed that the cellular microtubule networks and microfilament arrangement were obviously altered, and although the expression of cytoskeleton proteins (α-tubulin, β-tubulin, actin) did not change, the protein levels of invasion- and migration-related factors [matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2), protein kinases B (AKT), mTOR] were decreased in exposed cells. Accordingly, the expression level of miR-99 family members (miR-99a, miR-99b, miR-100), which can regulate mTOR, was significantly increased after CeO 2 NPs exposure. This study aimed to evaluate the characteristics of Calu-3 cells as a model to examine the toxicological responses of inhalable substances. Calu-3 cells were grown to the confluence at an air-liquid interface (ALI) using a Transwell ® permeable support system. The ALI resulted in biomimetic native bronchial epithelium displaying pseudostratified columnar epithelium with more microvilli and secretory vesicles. We further characterized and optimized the Calu-3 cell line model using ALI culturing conditions, immunolabeling of protein expression, ultrastructural analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) measurements, and then screened for the cytotoxicity of tobacco flavoring extracts. Calu-3 cells displayed dose-dependent responses when treated with the flavoring extract. Within 8-10 days, cell monolayers developed TEER ≥1000 Ω·cm 2 . During this time, Calu-3 cells exposed to flavoring extracts X01 and X06 exhibited a loss of cellular integrity and decreased ZO-1 and E-cadherin protein expression. In conclusion, we investigated the Calu-3 cell line culture conditions, culture time, and barrier integrity and tested the effect of six new synthetic tobacco flavoring extracts. Our data demonstrate that the Calu-3 human bronchial epithelial cell monolayer system is a potential in vitro model to assess the inhalation toxicity of inhalable substances.

The use of Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes is constrained in wastewater treatment because of their hydrophobic nature. Therefore, a large number of researchers have been working on the hydrophilic modification of their surfaces. In this work, a superhydrophilic tea polyphenols/silica composite coating was developed by a one-step process. The composite coating can achieve not only superhydrophilic modification of the surface, but also the inner surface of the porous PVDF membrane, which endows the modified membrane with excellent water permeability. The modified membrane possesses ultrahigh water flux (15,353 L·m -2 ·h -1 ). Besides this, the modified membrane can realize a highly efficient separation of oil/water emulsions (above 96%).

The metal-type microbolometers in CMOS technology normally suffer low resistivity and high thermal conductivity, limiting their performance and application areas. In this paper, we demonstrate a polysilicon microbolometer fabricated in 0.18 µm CMOS and post-CMOS processes. The detector is composed of a SiO 2 absorber coupled with a salicided poly-Si thermistor that has a high resistivity of 1.37×10 -4 Ω·cm and low thermal conductivity of 18 W/m·K. It is experimentally shown that the microbolometer with a 40 µm × 40 µm pixel size has a maximum responsibility and detectivity of 2.13×10 4 V/W and 2.33×10 9 cmHz 1/2 /W, respectively. The results are superior to the reported metal-type and diode-type microbolometers in the CMOS process and provide good potential for a low-cost, high-performance, uncooled microbolometer array for infrared imaging applications.

A remarkable shift in Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) plays an important role in cancer metastasis, but the molecular mechanism is still unclear. CPNE7, a calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein, mediates signal transduction and metastasis in many tumours. Here, we demonstrated that MSCs derived from OSCC (OSCC-MSCs) promoted the metastasis of OSCC cells by transwell assay and animal models through epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) (p < 0.05). RNA-sequencing, ELISA, neutralizing antibody and CXCR2 inhibitor assay confirmed that CXCL8 secreted by OSCC-MSCs was associated with the upregulated expression of CPNE7 by immunohistochemical and western blotting (p < 0.05). This is mechanistically linked to the activation of CPNE7 to NF-κB pathway-induced metastasis, including phosphorylated p65 and IκBa. CPNE7 silencing inhibited metastatic abilities and the expression of CXCL8, phosphorylated p65, IκBa, and p65 nuclear translocation by western blotting and immunofluorescence, while CPNE7 overexpression markedly promoted these events (p < 0.05). We also identified that Nucleolin could be bind CPNE7 and IκBa by co-immunoprecipitation. Together, our results suggest that upregulation of CPNE7 in MSCs interacted with surface receptor -Nucleolin and then combined with IκBa to promoted phosphorylated IκBa and p65 nuclear translocation to active NF-κB pathway, and then regulates CXCL8 secretion to promote the metastasis of OSCC cells. Iron oxide (Fe2O3) nanoparticles encapsulated in the N-doped carbon framework (Fe2O3@C-N) were synthesized via a one-step thermal decomposition reaction of commercial C10H12FeN2NaO8 (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid monosodium ferric salt), which can serve as the source of Fe, O, C, and N. As an anode material for lithium storage, the Fe2O3@C-N sample exhibits a reversible capacity of 1072 mA h g-1 after 200 cycles at 0.2 A g-1 and 553 mA h g-1 after 500 cycles at 0.5 A g-1. Furthermore, the synthetic strategy can be simply extended to prepare other similar products, e.g. MnO@C-N and ZnO@C-N. The MnO@C-N anode also shows good cycling performances (915 mA h g-1 after 200 cycles at 0.2 A g-1 and 768 mA h g-1 after 500 cycles at 0.5 A g-1).

The imaging signs which can accurately predict survival prognosis after standard treatment of high-grade glioma (HGG) are highly desirable. This study aims to explore the role of new enhancement beyond radiation field (NERF) in the survival prediction in patients with post-treatment HGG. The present study included 142 pathologically confirmed HGG patients who had received standard treatment. NERF, as well as other conventional MR findings and clinical variables, were included in univariate and multivariate analyses for evaluating their impactions on progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Univariate analysis showed that histological grade ( p =0.008) and NERF ( p =0.001) were the prognostic variables for poor PFS, whereas histological grade ( p =0.017), NERF ( p =0.001), and new subventricular zone enhancement (nSVZE) ( p =0.001) were prognostic variables for poor OS. The multivariate analysis showed that NERF (HR 3.93; 95% CI 1.93-8.01; p =0.001) and nSVZE (HR 3.92; 95% CI 1.95-7.89; p =0.001) were the prognostic variables for poor OS. However, only nSVZE was (HR 3.29; 95% CI 2.04-5.28; p =0.001) the prognostic variable for poor PFS. When combining the NERF with the clinical and other MR variables, the highest AUC (0.924) and specificity (0.899) for predicting poor OS were achieved. The location of new developed enhancements relevant to high dose radiation field appears to be the main determinant of their prognostic value. Mental retardation autosomal dominant 7 (MRD7), or DYRK1A Related Intellectual Disability Syndrome (OMIM 614104) is a developmental syndrome with microcephaly, intellectual disability, language delay and epileptic seizures. Haploinsufficiency of DYRK1A is the cause of MRD7. Here, we generated an induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line with the mutation (DYRK1Ac.1730T>A) from the Peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) of a MRD7 patient along with an isogenic gene-corrected control iPSC line by CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing. Both iPSC lines showed full pluripotency, normal karyotype and differentiation capacity without integrating vectors. High delicate particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) concentration can seriously reduce air quality, destroy the environment, and even jeopardize human health. Accordingly, accurate prediction for PM 2.5 plays a vital role in taking precautions against upcoming air ambient pollution incidents. However, due to the disturbance of seasonal and nonlinear characteristics in the raw series, pronounced forecasts are confronted with tremendous handicaps, even though for seasonal grey prediction models in the preceding researches. A novel seasonal nonlinear grey model is initially designed to address such issues by integrating the seasonal adjustment factor, the conventional Weibull Bernoulli grey model, and the cultural algorithm, simultaneously depicting the seasonality and nonlinearity of the original data. Experimental results from PM 2.5 forecasting of four major cities (Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Hefei) in the YRD validate that the proposed model can obtain more accurate predictive results and stronger robustness, in comparison with grey prediction models (SNGBM(1,1) and SGM(1,1)), conventional econometric technology (SARIMA), and machine learning methods (LSSVM and BPNN) by employing accuracy levels. Human brain development is a complex process involving neural proliferation, differentiation, and migration that are directed by many essential cellular factors and drivers. Here, using the NetBID2 algorithm and developing human brain RNA sequencing dataset, we identify synaptotagmin-like 3 (SYTL3) as one of the top drivers of early human brain development. Interestingly, SYTL3 exhibits high activity but low expression in both early developmental human cortex and human embryonic stem cell (hESC)-derived neurons. Knockout of SYTL3 (SYTL3-KO) in human neurons or knockdown of Sytl3 in embryonic mouse cortex markedly promotes neuronal migration. SYTL3-KO causes an abnormal distribution of deep-layer neurons in brain organoids and reduces presynaptic neurotransmitter release in hESC-derived neurons. We further demonstrate that SYTL3-KO-accelerated neuronal migration is modulated by high expression of matrix metalloproteinases. Background: Alcohol-induced intestinal dysbiosis disrupts and inflammatory responses are essential in the development of alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD). Here, we investigated the effects of Fmo5 on changes in enteric microbiome composition in a model of AFLD and dissected the pathogenic role of Fmo5 in AFLD-induced liver pathology., Methods: The expression profile data of GSE8006 and GSE40334 datasets were downloaded from the GEO database. The WGCNA approach allowed us to investigate the AFLD-correlated module. DEGs were used to perform KEGG pathway enrichment analyses. Four PPI networks were constructed using the STRING database and visualized using Cytoscape software. The Cytohubba plug-in was used to identify the hub genes. Western blot and immunohistochemistry assays were used to detect protein expression. ELISA assay was used to detect the levels of serum inflammatory cytokines. Lipid droplets in the cytoplasm were observed using Oil Red O staining. Apoptosis was detected using a TUNEL assay and flow cytometry analysis. ROS levels were detected using flow cytometry analysis. Nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 was observed using immunofluorescence staining. Co-immunoprecipitation was used to detect the co-expression of PPARα and Fmo5 in L02 cells. 16S rDNA sequencing defined the bacterial communities in mice with AFLD., Results: Fmo5 is a key DEG and is closely associated with the gut microbiota and PPAR signaling pathway. Gut microbiome function in AFLD was significantly related to the PPAR signaling pathway. AFLD induced shifts in various bacterial phyla in the cecum, including a reduction in Bacteroidetes and increased Firmicutes. Fmo5 and PPARα co-expression in cell and animal models with AFLD, which decreased significantly. Silencing of Fmo5 and PPARα aggravated the functions of AFLD inducing apoptosis and inflammatory response, promoting liver injury, and activating the NF-κB signaling pathway in vivo and in vitro. The NF-κB inhibitor abolished the functions of silencing of Fmo5 and PPARα promoting AFLD-induced apoptosis, inflammatory response, and liver injury., Conclusion: Our data indicated that the co-expression of Fmo5 and PPARα was involved in AFLD-related gut microbiota composition and alleviated AFLD-induced liver injury, apoptosis, and inflammatory response by inhibiting the nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 to inhibit the NF-κB signaling pathway.

To develop a disease model for the human Alström Syndrome (AS), we used the episomal reprogramming system and CRISPR/Cas9 technology to generate an induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line with the compound heterozygous patient mutation (ALMS1 c.3902C > A, c.6436C > T) along with an isogenic gene-corrected control iPSC line. Both iPSC lines showed normal karyotype, expressed pluripotent markers, and differentiated into cells of three embryonic germ layer. The complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) microbolometer technology provides a low-cost approach for the long-wave infrared (LWIR) imaging applications. The fabrication of the CMOS-compatible microbolometer infrared focal plane arrays (IRFPAs) is based on the combination of the standard CMOS process and simple post-CMOS micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) process. With the technological development, the performance of the commercialized CMOS-compatible microbolometers shows only a small gap with that of the mainstream ones. This paper reviews the basics and recent advances of the CMOS-compatible microbolometer IRFPAs in the aspects of the pixel structure, the read-out integrated circuit (ROIC), the focal plane array, and the vacuum packaging.

The objectives of this study were to understand the characteristics of heavy metal pollution caused by mining activities on the two sides of the Shun'an river and the response of soil microorganisms to the habitats by different contamination levels and vegetation. This paper selected soil samples from the banks of the Shun'an River near the Shizishan mining area, which is at the left of the river, in Tongling, Anhui Province, China. Using Illumina MiSeq 2500 technology, we analyzed the relationship between environmental factors and microbial communities. As the distance from the mining area increased, the heavy metal comprehensive pollution and potential risk value decreased. Additionally, the pollution severity and risk value of the left bank, where the mining area lies, were generally higher than those of the right bank. Because the symmetric sampling points on both banks of the river had similar planting types, their environmental factors and microbial community structure were similar and clustered. However, under different vegetation, the paddy soils tended to have a higher nutrient content and community richness and diversity than the vegetable fields or the abandoned land. It was found that soil microbial communities in this area were mostly affected by pH and Nemerow pollution index (P N ). The pH significantly affected the abundance and structure of most microorganisms. In addition, Proteobacteria, Acidobacteria, and Bacteroidetes had significant tolerance to Zn, Pb, and Cd. By exploring the potential use of these tolerant microorganisms, we seek to provide strains and the theoretical basis for the bioremediation of areas contaminated by heavy metal.

The present study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanism and the effect of Saponin from Tupistra chinensis Baker (STCB) on the proliferation and apoptosis of ovarian cancer cells. To investigate the inhibitory effect of STCB on the proliferation of ovarian cancer cells, SKOV3 cells were cultured and the methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay was used. Flow cytometry was also used to analyze the cell cycle distribution and apoptotic rate. Ki-67, cyclin D1, cleaved caspase-3, cleaved caspase-9, β-catenin, and c-Myc protein expressions were detected by western blot. Ovarian cancer cells were treated with STCB and Wnt pathway activator lithium chloride (LiCl). These methods were also used to determine the proliferation, cell cycle distribution, and apoptosis of ovarian cancer cells. In STCB-treated group, the proliferation inhibition and apoptosis rate, the proportion of G0-G1 phase, and the expression level of cleaved caspase-3 and 9 of ovarian cancer cells were significantly increased. Similarly, the expression of Ki-67, cyclin D1, β-catenin, and c-Myc were significantly decreased (p < .05). The results also showed that in STCB-LiCl-treated group, while the proliferation inhibition rate of ovarian cancer cells, the proportion of G0-G1 cells, the expression level of cleaved caspase-3 and 9, and the apoptosis rate (p < .05) were significantly decreased, the expression level of Ki-67, cyclin D1, β-catenin, and c-Myc was significantly increased. Background: Inhalation of aerosolized drugs is a promising entry route for rapid and non-invasive therapeutics delivery to the lung. Curcumin exhibits potent anti-inflammatory properties, which are effective for use in lung diseases. The anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin have been widely studied in vitro with cells cultured in submerged conditions, however, the effectiveness using air-liquid interface (ALI) exposure is currently unknown., Methods: The anti-inflammatory effect of curcumin under both ALI and submerged conditions was investigated in the present study. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulated A549 cells were exposed to curcumin under ALI (10-100 μM) using a dose-controlled air-liquid interface cell exposure (ALICE)-CLOUD system and submerged cell culture conditions (1-20 μM). The expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8), cell viability and cytotoxicity were studied for each exposure scenario. The cellular uptake behaviour of curcumin was studied with an equipotent cell-based dose (200 pmol/10 6  cell) at various time points up to 24 h., Results: The ALI delivery profile proved to be rapid, efficient and reproducible. For the doses studied, no significant effect on cell viability and cytotoxicity were observed. ALI exposure of curcumin was more effective in reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines expression in lung epithelial cells compared with submerged cell cultures. Furthermore, rapid cellular uptake and higher intracellular doses were achieved by ALI conditions., Conclusions: The ALICE-CLOUD system combined with lung epithelial cells cultured under ALI conditions offers a reliable and relevant in vitro method for preclinical aerosolized drug screening. Background: Postoperative delirium (POD) is a very common complication in elderly patients after hip fracture surgery, which has poorly understood pathophysiology. This study aimed to investigate potential risk factors for POD., Methods: Elderly patients (aged ≥65 years) scheduled to undergo selective surgery in our hospital were consecutively recruited. Patient characteristics, preoperative laboratory tests and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) levels were compared between patients with or without POD. The risk factors for POD were evaluated by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to evaluate the predictive value of PNI and age for POD., Results: Fifty-seven of the 163 enrolled patient had suffered POD within postoperative day 7 with an incidence of 35.0%. Multivariate logistic analyses revealed that an advanced age (cut-off value: 71.5 years, sensitivity: 48.1%, specificity: 75.4%, odds ratio (OR): 3.24, 95% CI: 1.16-8.69, P = 0.026) and lower PNI level (cut-off value: 47.45, sensitivity: 86.0%, specificity: 51.9%, OR: 2.88, 95% CI: 1.25-6.64, P = 0.012) were two independent predictive factors associated with POD. According to the ROC curve analysis, preoperative PNI level was a predictor for POD with an area under the curve of 0.686 (95% CI: 0.604-0.767, P < 0.001)., Conclusions: Advanced age and lower preoperative PNI level were significantly associated with POD in elderly patients after hip fracture surgery., (© 2020 Japanese Psychogeriatric Society.)

In this paper, the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processing for 4H-SiC epilayer is investigated with particular emphasis on the defects and the noise properties. It is experimentally found that the process parameters of C/Si ratio strongly affect the surface roughness of epilayers and the density of triangular defects (TDs), while no direct correlation between the C/Si ratio and the deep level defect Z 1/2 could be confirmed. By adjusting the C/Si ratio, a decrease of several orders of magnitudes in the noise level for the 4H-SiC Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) could be achieved attributing to the improved epilayer quality with low TD density and low surface roughness. The work should provide a helpful clue for further improving the device performance of both the 4H-SiC SBDs and the Schottky barrier ultraviolet photodetectors fabricated on commercial 4H-SiC wafers.

Background: Adenomyosis is benign gynecologic condition with complex etiologies. Common symptoms associated with adenomyosis (AM) include menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, metrorrhagia, and dyspareunia. Although Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has often been utilized for managing AM in clinical practice in China, evidence regarding its efficacy is lacking. This systematic review protocol aims to describe a systematic review to assess the effectiveness and safety of CHM combined with Levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system for AM., Methods: The following 7 databases will be searched from the publishment to December 2019: the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), PubMed, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Digital Periodicals (WAN FANG), Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP). The primary outcomes will be relief in pain and uterine bleeding. The secondary outcomes include the adverse effects, CA125 variation in peripheral blood, reduction in uterine volume, and endometrial thickness. We will use RevMan V.5.3 to conduct the meta-analysis, if possible. If it is not allowed, a descriptive analysis will be conducted. We will use risk ratio with 95% confidence interval for dichotomous data and the mean difference for continuous data., Results: This study will provide the latest analysis of the currently available evidence for the efficacy of the adjuvant therapy of CHM for the treatment of AM., Registration Number: OSF (DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/A2GHY) ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION:: No ethical issues are required. Electrical noise significantly limits the detectivity of infrared photodiode detectors. In this paper, we investigated the dark current and noise spectra for long-wave-infrared InAs/GaSb type-II superlattice (T2SL) detectors to study the origin of noise under various work conditions. The temperature-dependent I-V characteristics reveal a turning point near 90 K, below which the dominant dark current mechanism changes from Shockley-Hall-Read generation current and diffusion current to shunt current and trap-assisted tunneling (TAT) current. The contribution of shunt and tunneling process to the total 1/f noise are analyzed by fitting the noise power spectral density at 77 K for detectors. It is found that the TAT current dominates the 1/f noise at the reverse bias stronger than -0.1 V, while shunt current exhibits a larger contribution at the reverse bias less than -0.1 V with the shunt noise coefficient αshunt of 5×10 -8 . Furthermore, the leakage routes related to the shunt process and their temperature dependence are illustrated by two-dimensional photocurrent mapping.

Fusobacterium nucleatum is one of the most frequent pathogenic bacteria causing periodontitis. The direct effect of Fusobacterium nucleatum ( F. nucleatum ) on oral stem cells has rarely been reported. In this study, we aimed to evaluate how gingiva-derived mesenchymal stem cells (GMSCs) respond to a direct challenge with F. nucleatum . GMSCs were isolated by the limiting dilution method and exposed to F. nucleatum at various multiplicities of infection (MOIs; F. nucleatum :cell ratios of 10:1, 50:1, and 100:1) for 24 h to 4 weeks. Our results indicated that F. nucleatum significantly inhibited cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner and promoted cell migration and the release of chemokines/cytokines, such as CCL2, CXCL1, and IL-6. Additionally, F. nucleatum inhibited GMSC osteogenic differentiation partly by decreasing alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, mineralized nodule formation, and osteogenesis-related gene and protein expression. RNA-sequencing analyses indicated that F. nucleatum time-dependently activated cellular signaling pathways during the process of osteogenic differentiation. A total of 64 cell differentiation-related genes were found to be differentially expressed between non-infected and F. nucleatum -infected GMSCs at 3, 7, 14, and 21 d. Intriguingly, we discovered that the 64 cell differentiation-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were significantly enriched in cancer-related pathways, such as bone cancer, osteosarcoma and bone marrow cancer, which provides new insight into tumorigenesis during the process of GMSC osteogenic differentiation. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that persistent exposure to F. nucleatum promotes cell migration and chemokine/cytokine release and inhibits the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of GMSCs. Ultrasound (US) combined with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the diagnosis of primary hepatocellular carcinoma (PHCC) and recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (RHCC) were compared. The clinical data of 329 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) admitted to Qingdao Women and Children's Hospital from June 2015 to December 2017 were collected. One hundred and sixty patients with PHCC were regarded as the PHCC group, and the other 169 patients with RHCC were regarded as the RHCC group. US and MRI were used in the imaging diagnosis of both groups and the results of US combined with MRI, US, and MRI alone were compared. The lesion size in the PHCC group was significantly higher than that in the RHCC group (P<0.05). The MRI fast-in and fast-out rates of the two groups were significantly higher than those of the other three methods (P<0.05). The coincidence rate of MRI in the two groups was higher than that of computed tomography (CT), US, and US combined with MRI (P<0.05). The coincidence rates of CT, US, MRI, and US combined with MRI in PHCC group were significantly higher than those in RHCC group. In PHCC group, MRI was superior to the other methods in the detection of micro HCC (P<0.05). In RHCC group, MRI was significantly better than US in the detection of micro HCC (P<0.05). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of MRI were significantly better than the other three methods (P<0.05). MRI alone has the best diagnostic efficacy for micro HCC-type lesions. The diagnostic efficacy of MRI, US, CT, and US combined with MRI in PHCC was better than those in RHCC. Multi-frequency Terahertz (THz) detectors have shown great application potentials in THz imaging and sensing systems. For the first time to our knowledge, a novel dual-frequency THz detector with the stacked structure consisting of a silicon-based plasmonic antenna and a metal-based antenna in one compact unit is proposed and fabricated in standard CMOS technology. Compared with the metal antenna, the antenna based on heavy-doped poly-silicon materials enables the detector to excite localized surface plasmon resonance mode, making the effective absorption of the THz waves and thus resulting in the significant responsivity enhancement of the detector. The experimental results show a maximum voltage responsivity up to about 2000 V/W and 450 V/W, while the noise equivalence power is as low as 23 pW/Hz 0.5 and 110 pW/Hz 0.5 for the silicon antenna and metal antenna at the frequency of 220 GHz and 650 GHz, respectively. The presented dual-frequency detector can be easily implemented in a small size in favor of high-density array integration.
