Ferroelectric nematic liquid crystals (N F LCs) are distinguished by their remarkable polarization characteristics and diverse physical phenomena, sparking significant interest and excitement within the scientific community. To date, over 150 N F LC molecules are developed; however, there are no reports regarding straight linear polar molecules with a parallel alignment of the permanent dipole moment and the molecular axis. The straight polar mesogen nBOE exhibits an enantiotropic N F phase with a wide temperature window (up to 100 K) despite having a longer alkyl chain (up to n = 6) than the critical alkyl chain length of conventional models. Interestingly, nBOE with a medium-length alkyl chain displays an exotic phase sequence of N F - HC N F -SmX F during the elimination of positional displacement among adjacent molecules. Furthermore, the reflective color modulation of the HC N F LC over the entire VIS-NIR spectral regime by ultralow E-field (up to 0.14 V µm -1 ) is demonstrated., (© 2024 The Author(s). Background: The intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) technique has low efficiency in cattle. This has mainly been attributed to the oocyte activation failure due to oocyte and/or sperm factors., Aim: Our aim was to evaluate the effect of conventional ICSI and Piezo-ICSI with bull or human sperm on bovine oocyte activation and embryo development and to assess its relationship with the phospholipase C zeta (PLCɀ) activity of both species., Methods: In vitro matured bovine oocytes were randomly divided into five groups and were fertilized as follows: conventional ICSI using bovine sperm with chemical activation (control), conventional ICSI using bovine sperm, Piezo-ICSI using bovine sperm, conventional ICSI using human sperm, and Piezo-ICSI using human sperm. PLCɀ activity was determined in bull and human sperm samples., Results: Within the groups using bull sperm, the oocytes fertilized by conventional ICSI had the lowest values of 2 pronuclei (PN) formation and cleavage, Piezo-ICSI increased both percentages and ICSI + chemical activation presented the highest 2 PN, cleavage, and blastocyst rates ( p < 0.05). Within the groups using human sperm, the oocytes fertilized by Piezo-ICSI presented higher 2 PN and cleavage rates than those activated by conventional ICSI ( p < 0.05). Piezo-ICSI with human sperm increased bovine oocyte activation as much as conventional ICSI + chemical activation with bovine sperm ( p < 0.05). Higher values of PLCɀ activity were found in human sperm compared with bovine sperm ( p < 0.05)., Conclusion: Our results suggest that the higher stability of the bovine sperm in combination with its relatively low content of PLCɀ impairs bovine oocyte activation after ICSI., Competing Interests: The authors have declared that there is no conflict of interest concerning this study.

An 80-year-old woman had developed a slight fever and loss of appetite since October 20XX. In November of the same year, the patient visited our hospital. Peripheral blood tests revealed the presence of atypical lymphocytes and a significant increase in sIL-2R. Tests of bone marrow aspiration samples showed the infiltration of small lymphocytes positive for CD19, CD20, CD23, and lambda. Therefore, a diagnosis of small lymphocytic lymphoma(SLL)was made. A complex karyotype including -X and del(13q)was observed in 19/20. Additionally, an enlarged spleen and retroperitoneal tumors were observed. As a result of 3 courses of fludarabine plus rituximab therapy, atypical lymphocytes were no longer observed in the peripheral blood and the enlarged spleen decreased in size. However, the retroperitoneal tumors could not be reduced. Consequently, a needle biopsy from the same area was performed in February 20XX+1, and a diagnosis of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBCL)was made. Because massive infiltration of CD23-negative lymphocytes was observed in the bone marrow, it was suggested that chronic lymphocytic leukemia(CLL)had transformed into DLBCL. Following 4 courses of CHOP therapy, the retroperitoneal tumors were reduced. In cases where -X is a microclone, the mutation is often age-related. However, in cases of advanced chronogenesis, as occurred in this patient, a correlation with hematopoietic tumors is arguable. Moreover, cases of CLL with -X have been reported to be related to de(l 13q). Our results strongly suggest that -X with del(13q)may be a clonal expansion in CLL/SLL.

Fluorinated cycloparaphenylenes (FCPPs) have attracted attention as electron-accepting CPPs as well as strained fluoroarenes. Herein, we report the synthesis and properties of novel FCPPs; F 16 [8]CPP and F 12 [6]CPP. Furthermore, the derivatization of F 16 [8]CPP afforded a new carbon nanoring where sixteen pyrrole rings are densely substituted on the CPP framework.

We surveyed the facilities that were members of the Japan Association of Zoos and Aquariums to clarify the incidence of aspergillosis, which is a major cause of death in captive penguins, and to discern effective preventive measures. Responses were obtained for 2910 penguins in 64 facilities; 73 penguins (2.5%) in 35 facilities had died from aspergillosis during the past 5 years from April 2016 to March 2021. Answers to questions about the rearing environment indicated that aspergillosis occurred significantly more often in facilities where penguins were reared outdoors, were in contact with soil, or were moved outside of the rearing enclosure. Answers to questions about their dead penguins indicated that 76% may have been at individual risk (e.g., young age, old age, molting period, and breeding season) and 54% were thought to be reared in uncomfortable environments (e.g., high temperature, high humidity). Aspergillosis may occur when individual risk factors and uncomfortable environmental factors are added to the risk factors of exposure to Aspergillus , such as the presence of soil. These conditions must be recognized as risk factors for aspergillosis, and appropriate preventive measures, such as avoiding penguin contact with the soil where Aspergillus is expected to be present, can minimize aspergillosis-related deaths.

Laser speckle flowmetry (LSF) can measure moving red blood cells in real time as changes in tissue blood flow; however, LSF values may not be sufficiently reproducible due to body movements and other factors. Therefore, it is difficult to compare absolute values of LSF directly. This study aimed to verify the influence of head fixation on improving the measurement accuracy and enabling the comparison of LSF values semi-quantitatively using an external standard. We first examined the effects of head fixation on LSF values obtained during cerebral blood flow (CBF) measurement through a bone window over the cerebrum in Sprague-Dawley rats. The LSF values in the bone window were semi-quantitated using the ratio of the external standard LSF values measured simultaneously in the same field of view in a unilateral common carotid artery ligation model to evaluate CBF. Head fixation halved the variability of LSF values when compared with measurements made without head fixation. The LSF laser focus position did not affect the LSF values provided the focus was positioned within the exposed cranium. Semi-quantitation of LSF values made it possible to monitor changes in CBF in each respective bone window over time in a model of unilateral carotid ligation. In conclusion, the stabilizing effect of head fixation on LSF values was clarified, and we observed that to improve measurement accuracy, the head should be immobilized. Perfluorinated aromatic compounds, the so-called perfluoroarenes, are widely used in materials science owing to their high electron affinity and characteristic intermolecular interactions. However, methods to synthesize highly strained perfluoroarenes are limited, which greatly limits their structural diversity. Herein, we report the synthesis and isolation of perfluorocycloparaphenylenes (PFCPPs) as a class of ring-shaped perfluoroarenes. Using macrocyclic nickel complexes, we succeeded in synthesizing PF[n]CPPs (n = 10, 12, 14, 16) in one-pot without noble metals. The molecular structures of PF[n]CPPs (n = 10, 12, 14) were determined by X-ray crystallography to confirm their tubular alignment. Photophysical and electrochemical measurements revealed that PF[n]CPPs (n = 10, 12, 14) exhibited wide HOMO-LUMO gaps, high reduction potentials, and strong phosphorescence at low temperature. PFCPPs are not only useful as electron-accepting organic materials but can also be used for accelerating the creation of topologically unique molecular nanocarbon materials., (© 2022. (Introduction)HoLEP's role in the surgical management of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is steadily growing. In this study, a questionnaire containing questions about perioperative management was submitted to HoLEP surgeons to help establish standard surgical training procedures. (Methods)We sent a comprehensive 17 questionnaires on HoLEP procedures to 18 surgeons. The questionnaire asked, "Which method are you using, the 1-LOBE or 3-LOBE method?", "What educational methods are being used for surgeons?", "How long is the catheter insertion period after HoLEP?", and "What is the most difficult problem encountered in surgical HoLEP education and what aspect of training is the most emphasized?" (Results)Sixteen (88.9%) surgeons answered these questionnaires. Five surgeons reported using the one lobe method, five surgeons reported using the three lobe method, and four surgeons answered that it depends on the case. Regarding educational methods, the main answer was that it is important to evaluate pre-HoLEP imaging tests such as MRI and cystoscopy and to simulate surgery for education. Regarding the postoperative catheter insertion period, 1 day: 1 surgeon, 2 days: 9 surgeons, 3 days: 3 surgeons, 4 days or more: 1 surgeon. The most important thing reported for surgical education was to help beginners understand the characteristics of lasers, including direction, distance to prostate tissue, and adenoma removal. (Conclusions)The surgeons' responses clearly indicated some differences in practices between institutions. More detailed data from these results will provide a step towards designing standardized surgical and educational protocols for HoLEP.

The synthesis of each of the cycloiptycene derivatives was achieved in one step from the (6,6)carbon nanobelt. It was revealed that the carbon nanobelt reacted as a diene in the Diels-Alder reaction with arynes and alkynes. The structures of all products were identified by X-ray crystallography to confirm that the Diels-Alder reactions took place at the six central benzene rings of the carbon nanobelt. DFT calculations indicated that the release of strain energy is the driving force to promote the Diels-Alder reaction. By using this method, we have successfully synthesized cyclotetracosiptycene, the largest iptycene ever synthesized., (This journal is © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2020.)

A catenane consisting of two [9]cycloparaphenylenes ([9]CPPs) has been synthesized. Density functional theory calculations suggested that [ n ]CPPs ( n = 5, 6) are highly strained upon the formation of catenanes compared with the corresponding uncatenated CPPs, whereas [ n ]CPP catenanes ( n ≥ 7) are not strained. The synthesis of ([9]CPP)([9]CPP)catenane was accomplished via the following route: (i) a spirosilylation, (ii) a nickel(0)-mediated macrocyclization, (iii) a desilylation, and (iv) reductive aromatization reactions. An X-ray diffraction analysis revealed a catenated structure of ([9]CPP)([9]CPP)catenane.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated gastric cancer (GC) is associated with a high degree of DNA methylation. However, the association between chemotherapy susceptibility and tumor DNA methylation in advanced diseases remains unclear. The comprehensive DNA methylation status of GC cells obtained from an advanced EBV-associated GC (EBVGC) case, in which complete response to S-1 plus cisplatin chemotherapy was achieved, was analyzed using a DNA methylation microarray. We compared DNA methylation of GC cells with public data and identified genes with higher methylation in EBVGC cell lines than in normal gastric cells, and genes in which methylation was increased by EBV. Of these genes, ABCG2, AHNAK2, BCL2, FZD1, and TP73 are associated with published evidence for resistance to 5-fluorouracil and cisplatin. There is a clinical demand for efficient cryopreservation of cloned camel embryos with considerable logistic and economic advantage. Vitrification of in vivo derived embryos has been reported in camels, but there is no study on vitrification of cloned embryos. Moreover, whether characteristic differences between cloned and in vivo derived embryos imply different vitrification requirement is unresolved. Here, we compared survival, re-expansion and pregnancy rates of cloned embryos vitrified using two commercial vitrification kits (Cryotec and Kitazato), developed basically for human embryos, and a vitrification protocol developed for in vivo camel embryos (CVP). Cloned embryos responded dynamically to vitrification-warming steps in commercial kits, with a flat shrinkage in the final vitrification solution and a quick re-expansion to the original volume immediately after transferring to the isotonic warming solution. Contrarily, full shrinkage was not observed in CVP method, and majority of embryos were still collapsed post-warming. The immediate re-expansion was highly associated and predictive of higher survival and total cell number, and also better redox state of embryos vitrified by Cryotec and Kitazato kits compared to CVP method. Importantly, while 30% blastomere loss, verified by differential dye exclusion test, was tolerated in vitrified embryos, >50% blastomeres loss in non-expanded blastocysts implied the minimal essential cell survival rate for blastocoelic cavity re-expansion in vitrified cloned camel blastocysts, irrespective of vitrification method. A protocol-based exposure of embryos to cryoprotectants indicated that cryoprotectant toxicity, per se, may not be involved in lower cryosurvival of embryos in CVP vs. Cryotec and Kitazato. The initial pregnancy rates were numerically higher in Cryotec and Kitazato frozen transfers compared to fresh transfer (56.3, 60 and 33.3%, respectively), and importantly, a higher percentage of established pregnancies in vitrified groups passed the critical 3 months period of early embryonic loss compared to sibling fresh clone pregnancies (50, 40, and 10%, respectively). Results confirmed the suitability of Cryotec and Kitazato kits for vitrification of cloned camel embryos and that vitrification may improve pregnancy outcome by weeding out poor competent embryos., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Inc. The regioselective ten-fold borylation of warped nanographene (WNG: C 80 H 30 ) was achieved by modifying the reaction conditions of a previously reported Ir-catalyzed C-H borylation, affording decaborylated WNG in high yield (75%) from pristine WNG. The solid-state structure of decaborylated WNG was confirmed by X-ray crystallography. Corresponding decaarylated WNGs containing electron-withdrawing and -donating groups were synthesized from decaborylated WNG using Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions to afford the red-emissive warped nanographene derivative., (This journal is © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2019.)

The generation of topologically complex nanocarbons can spur developments in science and technology. However, conventional synthetic routes to interlocked molecules require heteroatoms. We report the synthesis of catenanes and a molecular trefoil knot consisting solely of para -connected benzene rings. Characteristic fluorescence of a heterocatenane associated with fast energy transfer between two rings was observed, and the topological chirality of the all-benzene knot was confirmed by enantiomer separation and circular dichroism spectroscopy. The seemingly rigid all-benzene knot has rapid vortex-like motion in solution even at -95°C, resulting in averaged nuclear magnetic resonance signals for all hydrogen atoms. This interesting dynamic behavior of the knot was theoretically predicted and could stimulate deeper understanding and applications of these previously untapped classes of topological molecular nanocarbons., (Copyright © 2019 The Authors, some rights reserved; exclusive licensee American Association for the Advancement of Science. This study was conducted to examine the utility of vitrification for bovine embryos with low-quality grade, and simple cryoprotectants dilution method for practitioners. In Experiment 1, survival of frozen embryos was compared with that of vitrified embryos using minimum volume cooling (MVC). Then, vitrified embryos were used to confirm the optimum sucrose concentration in Experiment 2. The survival rates of embryos that had been vitrified following diluted cryoprotectants with the one-step in-straw method were compared with those of fresh control embryos in Experiment 3. Frozen-thawed or vitrified-warmed blastocysts were cultured with TCM-199 supplemented with 100 μmol/L beta-mercaptoethanol +5% fetal bovine serum at 38.5°C in an atmosphere of 5% CO 2 in air, their survival after 24 hr were compared. The development to term of fair quality in vivo embryos after vitrification was examined in Experiment 4. Results show that survival rates of frozen-thawed embryos were lower (p < .05) than that of vitrified-warmed ones. When vitrified embryos were warmed in 0.3 mol/L sucrose in straws, their survival rate was 100%. The total cell numbers of vitrified-warmed embryos were comparable to those of fresh control embryos. The six calves from 13 vitrified embryos were delivered in Experiment 4. Background: Patients with advanced gastric cancer (AGC) are often treated with irinotecan monotherapy as salvage-line therapy. However, the survival benefit of this therapy remains to be elucidated., Methods: Medical records of AGC patients who were treated with irinotecan monotherapy as salvage-line treatment in six institutions from 2007 to 2014 were reviewed., Results: A total of 146 patients had prior fluoropyrimidine and taxane therapies, and 75.3% had prior platinum therapy. The median age was 66 (range 27-81) years, and 102 males (69.9%) were included. Performance status (PS) was 0/1/2/3 in 53/70/19/4 patients. Eighty-nine patients (61.0%) had two or more metastatic sites. Irinotecan monotherapy as 3rd-/4th-line therapy was performed in 135/11 (92.5%/7.5%). The median number of administrations was 4 (range 1-62). Forty-six patients (31.5%) required initial dose reduction at the physician's discretion. The overall response rate was 6.8%, and the disease control rate was 43.1%. The median PFS was 3.19 months [95% confidence interval (CI) 2.30-4.08 months], and the median OS was 6.61 months (95% CI 5.94-7.28 months). Grade 3/4 adverse events were hematological toxicity (46 patients, 31.5%) and non-hematological toxicity (50 patients, 34.2%). Hospitalization due to adverse events was required in 31 patients (21.2%). Patients with relative dose intensity (RDI) less than 80% showed similar survival to those with RDI 80% or higher., Conclusions: Irinotecan monotherapy was relatively safely performed as salvage-line treatment for AGC in Japanese clinical practice. Careful patient selection and intensive modification of the dose of irinotecan might possibly be associated with favorable survival.

Background: Significant efficacy of oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy has been demonstrated for advanced gastric cancer (AGC). However, the appropriate dose of oxaliplatin, and the efficacy and toxicity of administration of oxaliplatin subsequent to cisplatin therapy still remain unclear., Patients and Methods: In total, 55 patients with AGC that were scheduled to receive oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy were prospectively examined., Results: The median age was 67 years and oxaliplatin was administered to 39 (71%) patients as first-line and in 16 (29%) patients as second-line therapy. An initial dose of 130 or 100 mg/m 2 of oxaliplatin was administered to 11 and 36 patients, respectively. The overall response rates (ORR) and median progression free survival (mPFS) were 86 and 33%, and 7.2 and 7.8 months, respectively. Compared to 100 mg/m 2 , the relative dose intensity was significantly lower and severe toxicity tended to increase with oxaliplatin at 130 mg/m 2 A total of 10 patients (18%) had a prior cisplatin-based therapy. The ORR of the patients pretreated with cisplatin was 14% and the mPFS was 6.1 months., Conclusion: An initial oxaliplatin dose of 130 mg/m 2 resulted in a good response, but tended to increase the risk of toxicity. In the last 15-20 years, many centers are using vitrification as a method of choice for cryopreservation of human oocytes and embryos. As vitrification technologies have improved their success profiles, new applications seem to have emerged, making IVF treatments more successful and more flexible.This appendix describes the Cryotech ® method, which is the latest "minimal volume approach" method, suitable for cryopreservation of oocytes and embryos of any developmental stage, including blastocysts. Dr. Masashige Kuwayama, who has introduced major advances in oocyte and embryo cryopreservation, has developed this method. A detailed protocol has been described with finer tips for the accurate use of the method for perfect survival and safety.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) has a propensity to metastasize to the liver, lungs and regional abdominal lymph nodes, but rarely to the bone marrow. A 60-year-old man presented to the National Hospital Organization Kyushu Cancer Center with a 4-week history of persistent lower back pain, anorexia and difficulty defecating. Complete blood count revealed severe thrombocytopenia and erythroblastosis, suggesting a hematological malignancy. However, the bone marrow examination demonstrated involvement by a moderately to poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, but no hematopoietic abnormalities. A computed tomography scan revealed thickening of the wall of the sigmoid colon, with para-aortic, hilar, mediastinal and supraclavicular lymphadenopathy. The patient was thus diagnosed with sigmoid colon adenocarcinoma with lymph node and bone marrow metastasis. Modified FOLFOX6 was promptly initiated, with concurrent therapy for disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). An increased number of thrombocytes was observed on day 6. After 3 cycles of treatment, the patient recovered from DIC and the levels of serum carcinoembryonic antigen and cytokeratin 19 fragment were decreased. Tumor biopsy during colonoscopy following recovery from DIC demonstrated poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma with mucin production, without mutations in the RAS , BRAF or PIK3CA genes, and a cytokeratin (CK) 7-negative, CK20-positive phenotype. The patient has been treated with chemotherapy for 150 days without disease progression. However, the efficacy of chemotherapy for rarely encountered bone marrow metastasis from CRC is poor. The present case was favorably maintained on chemotherapy and survived for 10 months.

A simple yet effective method for the formation of thiophene-fused π-systems is reported. When arylethynyl-substituted polycyclic arenes were heated in DMF in the presence of elemental sulfur, the corresponding thiophene-fused polycyclic arenes were obtained via cleavage of the ortho-C-H bond. Thus, arylethynylated naphthalenes, fluoranthenes, pyrenes, corannulenes, chrysenes, and benzo[c]naphtho[2,1-p]chrysenes were effectively converted into the corresponding thiophene-fused π-systems. Apart from polycyclic hydrocarbons, thiophene derivatives are also susceptible to this reaction. The practical utility of this reaction is demonstrated by preparations on the decagram scale, one-pot two-step reaction sequences, and multiple thiophene annulations.

A 75-year-old man diagnosed with ileal gastrointestinal tumor with peritoneal dissemination was subjected to salvage treatment with regorafenib at 120 mg/day. Following the initiation of the treatment, liver dysfunction appeared on day 28, and continued to worsen despite termination of the treatment. Since no increase in the levels of serum immunoglobulins of the patient was observed, and negative results were obtained for the analysis of viral markers and autoantibodies, a diagnosis of regorafenib-induced hepatitis was suggested. In consequence, the patient received steroid pulse therapy and continuous administration of prednisolone, without sufficient improvement. Liver biopsy revealed interface hepatitis with prominent plasma cell infiltration, suggesting regorafenib-induced autoimmune hepatitis. The patient was then administered azathioprine and prednisolone, which improved the hepatic injury. The present case represents the first report of successful treatment of regorafenib-induced severe hepatic injury by the use of an immunosuppressant.

We report a 77-year-old Japanese man with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) which developed into chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) during treatment with eltrombopag, a thrombopoetin (TPO) receptor agonist, because the disease was refractory to prednisolone. Eltrombopag can induce a good reaction in terms of the platelet count. However, CML in the chronic phase developed in about 19 months in our present case. Dasatinib was administered because he had diabetes. However, a blastic crisis immediately occurred. He died despite switching to Nilotinib. Recently, the occurrence of myelofibrosis and hematological malignancies due to long-term use of TPO receptor agonists has become a concern. This is the first report of a TPO receptor agonist possibly contributing to CML onset and crisis.

Although vitrification is a useful technique for preservation of bovine oocytes, the yield of blastocysts derived from the vitrified oocytes is still low. We have recently reported a new type of cryoinjury, multiple aster formation, by which pronuclear migration and development of vitrified-warmed and in vitro-fertilized bovine oocytes are impaired. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of glutathione (GSH) content of vitrified bovine oocytes on multiple aster formation and subsequent in vitro development. Treatment of bovine cumulus-oocyte complexes with β-mercaptoethanol (βME) and L-cysteine (Cys) during in vitro maturation resulted in 2.5-fold higher GSH content not only in fresh control but also in vitrified-warmed oocytes. The percentage of normally fertilized zygotes exhibiting sperm aster(s) was >95% in all four groups (with or without βME/Cys × fresh control or vitrified). The frequency of multiple aster formation in vitrified oocytes (three-fold higher than that in fresh control oocytes) was not affected by the increased level of intracellular GSH with βME/Cys. Consequently, the migration and development of pronuclei as well as the yield of blastocysts from vitrified-warmed oocytes (17 versus 41%) were not improved. In addition, there was no effect of increased GSH level on the yield of blastocysts in fresh control groups.

Background: For fertility preservation of women patients scheduled to undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy, unilateral oophorectomy was performed, and the ovary was cryopreserved., Methods: Two-port surgery was conducted in 3 patients, and single-port surgery using a single-incision laparoscopic surgery port in 3. An 18-G Cathelin needle equipped with a syringe was directly inserted transabdominally to reach the small follicle on the ovarian surface; then, follicular fluid was recovered by aspiration through the syringe as with in vitro fertilization procedures, and immature oocytes were collected from the resulting culture medium under microscopy and cryopreserved. Vitrification of the ovarian tissue was performed using the cryotissue method., Results: The operative time and estimated blood loss were 39.7 minutes (17-57) and 8.6 mL (2-20), and the numbers of ovarian cortical tissues and immature oocytes collected were 10.1 (5.5-15) and 16.3 (0-36), respectively., Conclusions: It is suggested that fertility preservation operations before chemotherapy or radiotherapy can be safely done using reduced-port surgery.

In vitro-matured bovine oocytes do not tolerate vitrification as well as mature murine or human oocytes. Delayed first cleavage in vitrified and in vitro-fertilized bovine oocytes may be responsible for the decreased yield of blastocysts in vitro. Because formation of sperm-aster and the subsequent assembly of microtubule network play an important role for migration and fusion of both pronuclei, aster formation in vitrified-warmed oocytes was analyzed by confocal laser-scanning microscopy. At 10 h post-insemination (hpi), proportions of oocytes fertilized normally were comparable between the vitrified and fresh control groups (67 and 70%, respectively). Proportions of oocytes that exhibited microtubule assembly were similar between the two groups (95% each), but the proportion of oocytes with multiple asters was higher in the vitrified group when compared with the fresh control group (68 vs 29%, P < 0.05). Both migration and development of two pronuclei were adversely affected by multiple aster formation. In the next experiment, multiple asters observed in 5.5 vs 8 hpi pronuclear zygotes were located near the male pronucleus, suggesting that those multiple asters were not the cytoplasmic asters of maternal origin. In conclusion, multiple aster formation frequently observed in vitrified-warmed bovine oocytes may be related to loss of ooplasmic function responsible for normal microtubule assembly from the sperm-aster., (Copyright © 2012 Elsevier Inc. We evaluated: (1) cleavage rate after IVF or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) of in vivo- and in vitro-matured oocytes after vitrification (experiment 1); and (2) fetal development after transfer of resultant ICSI-derived embryos into recipients (experiment 2). In vivo-matured cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) were recovered from gonadotropin-treated donors at 24 h after LH treatment. In vitro-matured oocytes were obtained by mincing ovaries (from local veterinary clinics) and placing COCs into maturation medium for 24 h. Mature oocytes were denuded and cryopreserved in a vitrification solution of 15% DMSO, 15% ethylene glycol, and 18% sucrose. In experiment 1, for both in vivo- and in vitro-matured oocytes, cleavage frequencies after IVF of control and vitrified oocytes and after ICSI of vitrified oocytes were not different (P > 0.05). After vitrification, blastocyst development occurred only in IVF-derived, in vitro-matured oocytes. In experiment 2, 18 presumptive zygotes and four two-cell embryos derived by ICSI of vitrified in vitro-matured oocytes and 19 presumptive zygotes produced from seven in vivo- and 12 in vitro-matured oocytes were transferred by laparoscopy into the oviducts of two recipients, respectively. On Day 21, there were three fetuses in one recipient and one fetus in the other. On Days 63 and 66 of gestation, four live kittens were born. Aims: To evaluate the role of tumour-associated macrophages (TAMs) of the M1 and M2 types in the behaviour of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL)., Methods and Results: Double immunohistochemical staining of HLA-DR/CD68 (M1) or CD163/CD68 (M2) was performed in 101 cases of DLBCL. CD68+ cells represent the total number of TAMs. The average number of double-positive cells was counted, and the cut-off value was set at the mean number of counts, i.e. 30.7 and 27.0 for M1 TAMs and M2 TAMs, respectively. That for total TAMs was set at the 90th percentile number of total counts, i.e. 132.3. Cases were categorized into three pairs: high (34 cases) and low (67 cases) M1 TAM groups, high (39 cases) and low (62 cases) M2 TAM groups, and high (10 cases) and low (91 cases) total TAM groups. The difference in overall survival rates was statistically significant between the high and low M2 TAM groups (P < 0.01) and between the high and low total TAM groups (P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis revealed that the presence of a bulky mass and a higher number of M2 TAMs were significant factors for poor prognosis (P < 0.05)., Conclusions: Estimation of specific type of macrophages, of the M1 and M2 types, is superior to the estimation of TAMs as a whole (CD68+ cells) for prediction of the prognosis of DLBCL patients., (© 2011 Blackwell Publishing Limited.)

Sendai virus (SeV), a pneumotropic virus of rodents, has an accessory protein, V, and the V protein has been shown to interact with MDA5, inhibiting IRF3 activation and interferon-β production. In the present study, interaction of the V protein with various IRF3-activating proteins including MDA5 was investigated in a co-immunoprecipitation assay. We also investigated interaction of mutant V proteins from SeVs of low pathogenicity with MDA5. The V protein interacted with at least retinoic acid inducible gene I, inhibitor of κB kinase epsilon and IRF3 other than MDA5. However, only MDA5 interacted with the V protein dependently on the C-terminal V unique (Vu) region, inhibiting IRF3 reporter activation. The Vu region has been shown to be important for viral pathogenicity. We thus focused on interaction of the V protein with MDA5. Point mutations in the Vu region destabilized the V protein or abolished the interaction with MDA5 when the V protein was stable. The V-R₃₂₀G protein was highly stable and interacted with MDA5, but did not inhibit activation of IRF3 induced by MDA5. A 69-year-old male was admitted to our hospital for high-grade-fever and body weight loss lasting for a few months. In a previous hospital, extensive laboratory examinations and imaging modalities had failed to establish the origin of the fever. On admission he showed mild anemia, and elevated LDH and CRP, together with a high sIL-2R level, suggesting a possibility of lymphoid malignancy without nodal or solid organ involvements, in particular, intravascular large B-cell lymphoma(IVLBCL). A bone marrow biopsy revealed no abnormal findings except minimal hemophagocytosis. A random skin biopsy was then performed, though no detectable skin lesion was seen. The histological results of the skin materials clearly showed a prominent intravascular large lymphoid cell proliferation with a phenotype of CD20+, CD79a+, CD3- and CD5- in the small vessels. On the basis of these findings, a diagnosis of IVLBCL was established and the patient was treated with(R-)CHOP regimen immediately, which resulted in complete remission following two courses of chemotherapy. Difficulties often arise in the diagnosis of IVLBCL when suspicious lesions suitable for biopsy are lacking. Random skin biopsy would therefore be a useful tool if less invasive measures fail.

We have developed simultaneous detection of eight genes associated with the five categories of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli by the multiplex PCR assay with Alexa Fluor-labeled primers. This study was designed to investigate whether freeze-dried (FD) bull spermatozoa maintained the function of the microtubule-organizing center (MTOC) after rehydration and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). In a preliminary attempt, the cleavage and blastocyst formation rates in FD-ICSI zygotes (36 and 1%, respectively) were found to be considerably lower than those in control ICSI zygotes (67 and 21%, respectively) or in IVF zygotes (78 and 43%, respectively). An alkaline comet assay indicated that the DNA fragmentation index (length of comet tail % DNA liberated) was not significantly different between fresh and FD spermatozoa. In the main experiment, formation of sperm-asters in the FD-ICSI oocytes 7 h postinsemination occurred at a similar rate when compared with the control ICSI oocytes (41 vs. 49%). Among the oocytes exhibiting sperm aster formation, the extent of microtubule network assembly was comparable between the FD-ICSI and control ICSI groups. However, the MTOC of the ICSI oocytes was not as functional as that of IVF oocytes in terms of the aster formation rate (97%) and the fluorescent intensity of the microtubule network (2.0 folds). These results suggest that the freeze-drying process per se had no adverse effect on maintaining the MTOC function in bull spermatozoa.

We applied a multiplex reverse transcription-PCR with fluorescent dye-labeled primers (fluorescent multiplex RT-PCR) for noroviruses (NoV), sapovirus (SaV), and human astrovirus (HAstV) to diagnose 71 outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis during July 2007 and May 2010 in Hiroshima prefecture. In this assay, the green, red, yellow, and blue fluorescence for NoV genogroup I, NoV genogroup II, SaV, and HAstV, respectively, were indicated on an agarose gel under ultraviolet light. Since the progression of chronic lymphocytic leukemia(CLL)is long and requires lengthy primary disease management, the risk of double primary cancers and secondary cancer due to treatment has become an issue in western countries with a high incidence of CLL. However, the coexistence with chronic myeloid leukemia(CML)is rare even in the West, and no cases have been reported in Japan. At this time, we would like to report a rare case of CML coexisting during the progression of CLL. The patient was a 68-year-old woman. As she had entered the advanced stage of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia(B-CLL), fludarabine, a purine analog agent, was administered. Two years later, a high-granulocyte dominant white blood cell count began to appear. BCR/ABL analysis by FISH was 97. 6%positive, and the chromosomal test was t(9:22)(q34:q11), so CML was diagnosed. Coexistence of CML in CLL can mainly be classified into three types; CML preceding CLL, CLL preceding CML, and simultaneous occurrence, and the most common, as in this case, long progression CLL preceding CML. At this time, we performed a mainly bibliographical consideration according to the main occurrence type, including the possibility of secondary CML due to fludarabine.

The aim of the work was to evaluate the in vitro developmental competence of in vitro-matured buffalo oocytes after Cryotop vitrification (CTV) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). To optimize parameters, two cryoprotectant (CP) concentrations and two warming-dilution procedures were applied. Oocytes were vitrified in 16.5% ethylene glycol (EG), 16.5% dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) and 0.5 M sucrose in Groups A and C, and in higher CP concentrations (20% EG, 20% DMSO and 0.5 M sucrose) in Groups B and D. Warming was performed in 1.25 M sucrose for 1 min, then in 0.62, 0.42 and 0.31 M sucrose, 30 s each (Groups A and B), or in 0.25 M sucrose for 1 min and in 0.15 M sucrose for 5 min (Groups C and D). After warming, the oocytes were fertilized and cultured in vitro. Survival rate post-warming was lower in Group D (83.6%) than in Groups A and B (92.4 and 92.8%, respectively), while intermediate values were found in Group C (85.7%). Survival rates at 24 h decreased in Groups C and D (52.0% and 50%, respectively) and remained high in Groups A and B (84.0% and 85.6%, respectively), thus indicating that the dilution of CP after warming is critical for buffalo oocyte cryopreservation. Similar differences were also observed in cleavage rates (42.7%, 55.3%, 28.4% and 36.3% for Groups A, B, C and D, respectively) whereas no differences in blastocyst rates were found among groups (6.4%, 7.8%, 5.9% and 6.9% for Groups A, B, C and D, respectively). Objective: To evaluate the function of human ovarian transplants., Design: Follow a series of fresh ovarian transplants for up to 5 years, and compare fresh and frozen ovarian tissue transplantation., Setting: Tertiary referral community hospital., Patient(s): Nine women with premature ovarian failure who received an ovary donated from a monozygotic twin sibling, and 16 young cancer patients undergoing ovarian cryopreservation. Two of the transplant recipients were cancer survivors rendered sterile by their therapy., Intervention(s): Fresh ovary transplantation between monozygotic twin sisters, as well as transplantation of previously frozen ovarian tissue, and study of cryopreserved tissue in cancer patients., Main Outcome Measure(s): Return of normal menstrual cycling, hormone levels, pregnancy, healthy babies, duration of transplant function, and ovarian tissue evaluation., Result(s): Normal serum FSH and regular menstrual cycles returned by 5 months after surgery in all cases, both fresh and frozen. Fourteen spontaneous pregnancies were established leading to eight healthy live births and two healthy ongoing conceptions. All three frozen tissue transplants conceived spontaneously, one delivered, and two were ongoing. Oocyte survival with slow freezing was 42% and after vitrification 89%., Conclusion(s): Ovarian transplantation in humans is a robust procedure, even after cryopreservation, and vitrification might prove to be more effective than slow freezing., (Copyright © 2010 American Society for Reproductive Medicine. The objective was to investigate the effects of developmental stage (fully-expanded or expanding blastocysts) and/or age (harvested on Days 7 or 8) on post-vitrification in vitro survival of bovine blastocysts derived from intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF). Post-warming survival (re-expansion of blastocoele within 24 h) of ICSI-derived fully-expanded blastocysts (80%) was similar to that of their IVF-derived counterparts (88%). However, the ability of ICSI-derived expanding blastocysts to survive vitrification procedures (61%) was lower than that of IVF-derived blastocysts (85%; P < 0.05), although the ICSI- and IVF-derived fresh blastocysts were of similar quality. The age of the blastocysts before vitrification did not affect cryotolerance for either ICSI-derived (73 and 59% for Days 7 and 8 embryos, respectively) or IVF-derived blastocysts (86% for both Days 7 and 8 embryos). At 24 h of post-warming culture, ICSI-derived blastocysts surviving vitrification contained a higher proportion of dead cells than their IVF-derived counterparts (5-13% vs. 2-4%; P < 0.05), but these proportions were not different from those of fresh control embryos. There was an adverse effect of vitrification on the ability of blastocysts to hatch within 72 h of culture only in IVF-derived Day 8 blastocysts (41 and 70% in vitrified and fresh control groups, respectively). In conclusion, the proportion of blastocysts that survived vitrification procedures was similar for ICSI- and IVF-derived bovine blastocysts if the former were cultured to the fully-expanded stage prior to vitrification, with no significant difference between embryos harvested on Day 7 versus Day 8., ((c) 2010 Elsevier Inc. Reverse transcription-loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) assay we developed detects novel influenza A (H1N1) of swine origin and seasonal influenza A (H1N1 and H3N2) viruses. Individual primer sets targeting the HA gene for novel H1N1, H1N1, and H3N2 were newly designed to specifically detect these subtypes. No cross-reactions occurred among novel H1N1, H1N1, and H3N2, and 7 respiratory viruses-influenza B virus, influenza C virus, adenovirus, respiratory syncytial virus, metapneumovirus, parainfluenza virus, and rhinovirus-had no reaction to 3 RT-LAMP assays. RT-LAMP is assayed at 63 degrees C for 40 min. In our RT-LAMP assay, Eriochrome Black T was added to the reaction mixture as an amplification indicator to detect virus genomes without using real-time turbidimetry. Positive reactions were indicated in blue and negative reactions remained purple. Of 139 samples from suspected novel H1N1 subjects tested by both RT-LAMP and real-time RT-PCR assay, 110 were positive in both assays. Two samples with low copy numbers were positive only in real-time RT-PCR assay. Of 27 novel negative H1N1 samples, 4 were positive for H3N2 on viral isolation and conventional RT-PCR assay. RT-LAMP assay for detecting H3N2 obtained the same findings. Our RT-LAMP assay is thus potentially useful in rapidly detecting influenza A virus such as novel H1N1, H1N1, and H3N2.

Inhibition of Rho-associated coiled-coil kinase (ROCK) activity promoted recovery and growth of frozen-thawed human embryonic stem cells. The primary objective was to determine if a ROCK inhibitor (Y-27632) in post-thaw culture medium improved revivability of vitrified IVP bovine blastocysts. Expanding or expanded blastocysts (7 d after IVF) were vitrified (minimum volume cooling procedure, using a Cryotop) in 15% ethylene glycol, 15% DMSO and 0.5M sucrose. When post-warm blastocysts were cultured in mSOF medium, survival rate (re-expansion of blastocoel at 24h of culture) was improved (P<0.05) by the addition of 10 microM Y-27632 (94.9+/-2.4%, mean+/-SEM) compared to a control (78.0+/-6.0%). Conversely, after 48 h of culture, there were no significant differences in hatching rate (62.8+/-11.1 vs. 59.6+/-9.4%) and mean total cell number (135.2+/-13.1 vs. 146.7+/-13.3). In non-vitrified IVP bovine blastocysts, the hatching rate on Day 9 was improved by Y-27632 (91.7+/-3.8 vs. 54.7+/-8.9%, P<0.05), with no difference in mean total cell number of blastocysts (230.0+/-23.0 vs. 191.2+/-22.2, P=0.23). In an additional experiment, Y-27632 was added to culture medium on either Day 0, Day 2, or Day 4 (and remained present until Day 8), resulting in no improvement in blastocyst yield compared to a control group (7.5+/-2.1, 31.4+/-2.3, 36.2+/-3.2, and 28.6+/-6.9%, respectively). This study aimed to produce fertile zebrafish (Danio rerio) possessing germ cells (gametes) that originated from cryopreserved primordial germ cells (PGCs). First, to improve the vitrification procedure of PGCs in segmentation stage embryos, dechorionated yolk-intact and yolk-removed embryos, the PGCs of which were labeled with green fluorescent protein, were cooled rapidly after serial exposures to equilibration solution (ES) and vitrification solution (VS), which contained ethylene glycol, DMSO, and sucrose. Yolk removal well prevented ice formation in the embryos during cooling and improved the viability of cryopreserved PGCs. The maximum recovery rate of live PGCs in the yolk-removed embryos vitrified after optimum exposure to ES and VS was estimated to be about 90%, and about 50% of the live PGCs showed pseudopodial movement. Next, to elucidate the ability of cryopreserved PGCs to differentiate into functional gametes, PGCs recovered from the yolk-removed embryos (striped-type) that were vitrified under the optimum exposure to ES and VS were transplanted individually into 218 sterilized recipient blastulae (golden-type). Two days after the transplantation, 7.5% (14/187) of morphologically normal embryos had PGC(s) in the genital ridges. Six (5 males and 1 female) of the 14 recipient embryos developed into mature fish and generated progeny with characteristics inherited from PGC donors. In conclusion, we demonstrated the successful cryopreservation of PGCs by vitrification of yolk-removed embryos and the production of fertile zebrafish possessing germ cells that originated from the PGCs in vitrified embryos.

Ovariectomy and ovarian tissue cryopreservation has the potential to preserve the natural fertility of cancer patients prior to sterilizing chemo- and radiotherapies. Ovarian tissue cryopreservation with the conventional slow-freezing method has yielded limited success, partly because of oocyte loss during freeze-thaw and subsequent transplant. Based on the high-efficiency vitrification Cryotop method, a practical vitrification procedure for murine, bovine and human ovarian tissue was developed. A Cryotissue method was designed for cryopreservation of ovarian tissue, and vitrification experiments were performed in a bovine animal model with ovarian size and structure similar to the human. There was no difference in oocyte viability (>89%) between fresh and vitrified ovarian cortical tissue in either bovine or human samples. Ovarian tissue was successfully autotransplanted to six cattle. Autotransplantation of vitrified-warmed tissue back to the cattle resulted in no loss of oocyte viability. In addition, human ovarian tissue from cancer patients, and from ovary transplant donors was also vitrified by the Cryotissue method. After warming, high oocyte survival in human tissue (similar to bovine tissue) was obtained. These results indicate that an ultra-rapid cooling vitrification method has the potential for clinical use in human ovarian tissue cryopreservation.

High hydrostatic pressure has been reported to improve the fertilizing or developmental ability of mammalian spermatozoa, oocytes and embryos. This study investigated the effect of another stress, temporarily increased NaCl concentration, on cryotolerance and developmental competence of porcine oocytes. In Experiment 1, survival rates were compared after 1 h exposure to seven elevated NaCl concentrations and 1 h recovery time. In Experiment 2, oocytes were exposed to 593 and 1306 mOsmol NaCl, subsequently recovered, vitrified, then subjected to parthenogenetic activation. Both cleavage and blastocyst rates increased after NaCl treatment compared with untreated controls. In Experiment 3, oocytes were treated with 593 mOsmol NaCl followed by 1 and 2 h recovery, respectively, then used as recipients for somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). Cleavage rates were not different from those in untreated controls, but blastocyst rates increased in both NaCl-treated groups. In conclusion, treatment of porcine oocytes with elevated NaCl concentrations improved their developmental competence after vitrification and parthenogenetic activation or SCNT. Further experiments are required to investigate in-vivo consequences, and the effect on gametes and embryos of different mammalian species.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the reproducibility of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) and prostate size over the learning curve. We compared the outcome among three institutions in three subgroups on the basis of the weight of tissue retrieved. There were no significant differences in operating time, efficiency of the procedure, decrease in hemoglobin level and postoperative urinary incontinence among three institutions, only in patients with prostates >or=20 g-<40 g retrieved. Our data indicate that HoLEP is more reproducible in patients with a moderate-sized prostate over the learning curve.

Exposure of porcine oocytes to increased concentrations of NaCl prior to manipulation has been reported not only to increase cryotolerance after vitrification, but also to improve developmental competence after somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). In the present study we compared the effects of NaCl with those of concentrated solutions of two non-permeable osmotic agents, namely sucrose and trehalose, on the cryotolerance and developmental competence of porcine oocytes. In Experiment 1, porcine in vitro-matured cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs; n = 1200) were exposed to 588 mOsmol NaCl, sucrose or trehalose solutions for 1 h, allowed to recover for a further 1 h, vitrified, warmed and subjected to parthenogenetic activation. Both Day 2 (where Day 0 is the day of activation) cleavage and Day 7 blastocyst rates were significantly increased after NaCl, sucrose and trehalose osmotic treatments compared with untreated controls (cleavage: 46 +/- 5%, 44 +/- 7%, 45 +/- 4% and 26 +/- 6%, respectively; expanded blastocyst rate: 6 +/- 1%, 6 +/- 2%, 7 +/- 2% and 1 +/- 1%, respectively). In Experiment 2, COCs (n = 2000) were treated with 588 mOsmol NaCl, sucrose or trehalose, then used as recipients for SCNT (Day 0). Cleavage rates on Day 1 did not differ between the NaCl-, sucrose-, trehalose-treated and the untreated control groups (92 +/- 3%, 95 +/- 3%, 92 +/- 2% and 94 +/- 2%, respectively), but blastocyst rates on Day 6 were higher in all treated groups compared with control (64 +/- 2%, 69 +/- 5%, 65 +/- 3% and 47 +/- 4%, respectively). Cell numbers of Day 6 blastocysts were higher in the control and NaCl-treated groups compared with the sucrose- and trehalose-treated groups. In conclusion, treatment of porcine oocytes with osmotic stress improved developmental competence after vitrification combined with parthenogenetic activation, as well as after SCNT.

An innovative technique, called the high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) treatment, has been recently reported to improve the cryosurvival of gametes or embryos in certain mammalian species. The aim of the present study was to investigate the in vitro and in vivo developmental competence and cryotolerance of embryos produced by handmade cloning (HMC) after pressure treatment of recipient oocytes. In vitro-matured porcine oocytes were treated with a sublethal hydrostatic pressure of 20 MPa (200 times greater than atmospheric pressure) and recovered for either 1 or 2 h (HHP1 and HHP2 groups, respectively) before they were used for HMC. After 7 days of in vitro culture, blastocyst rates and mean cell numbers were determined. Randomly selected blastocysts were vitrified with the Cryotop method based on minimum volume cooling procedure. The blastocyst rate was higher in the HHP2 group than in the control group (68.2 +/- 4.1% vs. 46.4 +/- 4.2%; p < 0.01), while there was no difference between HHP1 and control group (52.1 +/- 1.2% vs. 49.0 +/- 2.7%; p > 0.05). Similar mean cell numbers of produced blastocysts were obtained in HHP2 and control groups (56 +/- 4 vs. 49 +/- 5; p > 0.05). Subsequent blastocyst vitrification with the Cryotop method resulted in significantly higher survival rate after thawing in the HHP2 group than in the control group (61.6 +/- 4.0% vs. 30.2 +/- 30.9%; p < 0.01). Fifty-six and 57 day 5 to day 7 fresh blastocysts in HHP1 group were transferred into two recipient sows on day 5 of the estrous cycle. One recipient was diagnosed pregnant and gave birth to two healthy piglets by naturally delivery on day 122 of gestation. This pilot study proved that the sublethal HHP treatment of porcine oocytes before HMC results in improved in vitro developmental competence and cryotolerance, and supports embryonic and fetal development as well as pregnancy establishment and maintenance up to the birth of healthy piglets.

During the past few years vitrification has been acknowledged as a viable alternative to traditional slow-rate freezing in both animal and human embryology. However, few data are available regarding the comparative efficiency of published and commercially available vitrification methods. The purpose of our work was to compare the OPS and Cryotop technology for cryopreservation of porcine in vitro matured oocytes. In a 2 x 2 factorial experiment, OPS and Cryotop devices and solutions were used for vitrification and warming. Two hours after warming oocytes were parthenogenetically activated and cultured in vitro. In 6 replicates a total of 1153 oocytes were vitrified. The cleavage rate after vitrification with Cryotop device and Cryotop solution (34.7 percent) were higher than those after vitrification with Cryotop device and OPS solution, or OPS device with both OPS and Cryotop solution (11.5, 5.1 and 11.3 percent, respectively). Further embryo development has shown a similar difference: Cryotop device applied with Cryotop solution resulted in 11.6 percent blastocyst/oocyte rates, higher than those achieved with Cryotop device and OPS solutions, or OPS device with both Cryotop and OPS solution (1.6, 1,65 and 0.6 percent, respectively). Our results indicate that for cryopreservation of some highly sensitive biological specimen including porcine oocytes Cryotop vitrification is superior to the OPS technique.
