Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a powerful analytical technique, yet it faces challenges with certain probe molecules exhibiting weak or inactive signals, limiting their applicability. In a recent study, we investigated this phenomenon using a set of four probe molecules─chloramphenicol (CAP), 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), amoxicillin (AMX), and furazolidone (FZD)─deposited on Ag-based nanostructured SERS substrates. Despite being measured under identical conditions, CAP and 4-NP exhibited SERS activity, while AMX and FZD did not. We also demonstrated that the alignment of the target molecule's lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy level with the substrate's Fermi level plays a critical role in influencing the SERS signal. When the LUMO level diverges from the Fermi level, hindrance of the charge transfer process occurs due to a high potential barrier, leading to weak or absent SERS signals. To overcome this challenge, in this study, we introduce an approach inspired by metal-semiconductor interfacial charge transfer dynamics. By employing TiO 2 /Ag nanostructures, we not only enhance SERS signals for CAP and 4-NP but also activate signals for inactive molecules AMX and FZD. Importantly, we demonstrate that controlling the crystalline phase composition of the TiO 2 semiconductor allows for tailored conduction band minimum energy level (E CBM ) positions, significantly impacting the overall SERS efficiency of the TiO 2 /Ag substrate. Our findings highlight the pivotal role of the semiconductor's E CBM position in the energy alignment of the metal-semiconductor-analyte three-body interaction for an optimal SERS sensing platform. These findings also offer a novel strategy to enhance and activate the SERS phenomenon of important yet underexplored analytes.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is widely recognized as a powerful analytical technique, offering molecular identification by amplifying characteristic vibrational signals, even at the single-molecule level. While SERS has been successfully applied for a wide range of targets including pesticides, dyes, bacteria, and pharmaceuticals, it has struggled with the detection of molecules with inherently low Raman scattering cross-sections. Urea, a key nitrogen-containing biomolecule and the diamide of carbonic acid, is a prime example of such a challenging target. Found in human urine and blood, urea serves as an essential biomarker for diagnosing kidney dysfunction, liver disease, and heart failure, while its residue in water poses significant health risks. However, due to its low Raman cross-section, SERS has faced challenges in achieving high sensitivity for urea detection, limiting its potential in diagnosis and residual analysis. In this study, we present Fe 3 O 4 @C@Ag nanostructures as an advanced SERS substrate engineered for ultrasensitive urea detection. Our results reveal that Fe 3 O 4 @C@Ag nanostructures enable the detection of urea with a good limit of 5.68 × 10 -9 M and a high enhancement factor of 3.67 × 10 6 . In addition, the substrate demonstrated high reliability, with repeatability and reproducibility showing relative standard deviations below 10%. Furthermore, the practicality of the Fe 3 O 4 @C@Ag nanostructures was evaluated in real-world scenarios using artificial urine and tap water samples as representative matrices for early disease diagnosis and water quality monitoring. The sensor successfully detected urea across concentrations as low as 10 -8 M, with excellent recovery rates ranging from 90% to 99%, even in complex sample environments. This study conducts a rigorous comparative analysis between two cutting-edge instance segmentation methods, Mask R-CNN and YOLOv8, focusing on stomata pore analysis. A novel dataset specifically tailored for stomata pore instance segmentation, named PhenomicsStomata, was introduced. This dataset posed challenges such as low resolution and image imperfections, prompting the application of advanced preprocessing techniques, including image enhancement using the Lucy-Richardson Algorithm. The models underwent comprehensive evaluation, considering accuracy, precision, and recall as key parameters. Notably, YOLOv8 demonstrated superior performance over Mask R-CNN, particularly in accurately calculating stomata pore dimensions. Beyond this comparative study, the implications of our findings extend across diverse biological research, providing a robust foundation for advancing our understanding of plant physiology. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is a powerful, highly efficient analytical technique capable of providing label-free, non-invasive, rapid, and ultrasensitive molecular detection down to the single-molecule level. Despite its advantages, SERS remains largely confined to laboratory settings due to the complexities of substrate fabrication and challenges in analyzing real-world samples. Developing flexible SERS substrates that achieve both high fabrication efficiency and high sensing performance, while being practical for field applications, is critical for advancing SERS toward broader, real-world use. In this study, we present a novel paper-based Ag dendritic SERS chip, fabricated via a simple chemical reduction process that directly forms Ag dendritic nanostructures on cellulose fibers. This chip substrate demonstrates exceptional sensitivity for the detection of thiram pesticide, with a detection limit as low as 7.76 × 10 -11 M. The chip substrate also exhibits outstanding reliability, with reproducibility and repeatability both less than 5%. Furthermore, the flexible nature of the paper substrate enables it to conform to curved surfaces and be in direct contact with analytes, exemplified by its ability to adhere to and retrieve thiram from pear skin using a novel "paste-and-peel-off" technique. The substrate shows remarkable performance for thiram detection on pear skin, with sharp recovery rates ranging from 90% to 105%. In this study, Au-NiFe 2 O 4 hetero-nanostructures (Au-NFO HNs) have been successfully developed and proposed as an efficient photoactive material for the construction of a photoelectrochemical sensor for the detection of paracetamol (PCM) under visible light irradiation. When Au NPs were in intimate contact with NFO NFs, a built-in electric field and Schottky barrier at the NFO/Au interface were established and downward band bending occurred. By using monochromatic 532 nm laser excitation, the photo-generated electrons on the NFO conduction band were promptly migrated to the Au Fermi level due to the presence of a built-in electric field and downward band bending, and together with the hot electrons induced by localized surface plasmon resonance characteristics of Au NPs could concurrently contribute to the enhanced photoelectrochemical activity. Furthermore, the Schottky barrier prevents the transfer of photo-generated holes from the valence band of NFO to Au, thereby suppressing the recombination of photo-generated electron-hole pairs and prolonging charge carrier lifetimes. A series of electrochemical kinetic parameters were determined and the results showed that in the presence of visible light irradiation, the interfacial charge transfer ability, electrocatalytic activity, and adsorption/diffusion capacity of Au-NFO HNs-modified electrode were remarkably enhanced compared to the dark environment. As a result, the photoelectrochemical sensing platform based on Au-NFO HNs showed noteworthy analytical performance towards PCM detection in the wide linear ranges from 0.5-200 μM, high electrochemical sensitivity of 1.089 μA μM -1 cm -2 , and low detection limit of 0.38 μM. Furthermore, the repeatability, anti-interference ability, and feasibility of the proposed photoelectrochemical sensor were also evaluated. The nutraceutical value, and physicochemical profile as well as anti-inflammatory activity potential of Odonthalia floccose and Odonthalia dentata (red macroalgae) dry biomass were investigated in this study. Proximate composition study results revealed that the dry biomass of O. floccose and O. dentae were found to be as ash: 9.11 & 8.7 g 100 g -1 , moisture: 8.24 & 8.1 g 100 g -1 , total fat: 6.9 & 7.2 g 100 g -1 , protein: 24.52 & 25.6 g 100 g -1 , and total carbohydrate/polysaccharides: 53.84 & 48.85 g 100 g -1 of dry weight biomass respectively. Both algae biomass contain considerable quantity of minerals (Fe, Cu, Mg, and Zn). Furthermore, the major saturated fatty acids (6.24 & 5.82 g FAME 100 g -1 of total fat of O. floccose and O. dentate) (ΣFAs) present in the test algae were stearic acid, palmitic acid, and margaric acids. O. floccose and O. dentata also contain remarkable protein composition profile that compiled with considerable quantity of essential and non-essential amino acids. The vitamins such as vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B9, C, and E of O. floccose and O. dentate biomass were also identified at sufficient quantity level. The swelling capacity (SWC), water holding capacity (WHC), and oil holding capacity (OHC) properties of O. floccose and O. dentate at various temperature conditions (25 and 37 ᵒC) were found to be 8.11 & 7.02 mL g -1 and 8.95 & 7.55 mL g -1 , 5.1 & 4.87 and 4.8 & 4.1 mL g -1 , as well as 2.11 & 1.81 and 1.96 & 1.89 mL g -1 respectively. Among these two marine red macroalgae samples, the O. dentate showed better anti-inflammatory activity than O. floccose at 150 μg mL -1 dosage. A flexible, ultrasensitive, and practical SERS chip is presented based on a paper/f-TiO 2 /Ag structure. The chip enhances the self-assembly of Ag nanoparticles on a cellulose fiber matrix, facilitated by smart functionalized TiO 2 nanomaterials (f-TiO 2 ). This design enables superior detection of the hazardous pesticide tricyclazole (TCZ) on crops using an advanced, simple, and efficient analytical method. Despite its straightforward fabrication process via a solvent immersion method, the intrinsic smart surface properties of the TiO 2 bridging material - both hydrophilic and hydrophobic - enable the uniform and dense self-assembly of hydrophilic Ag nanoparticles (NPs) on the cellulose fiber paper substrate. This innovative design provides superior sensing efficiency for TCZ molecules with a detection limit reaching 2.1 × 10 -9  M, a remarkable improvement compared to Paper/Ag substrates lacking f-TiO 2 nanomaterials, which register at 10 -5  M. This flexible SERS substrate also exhibits very high reliability as indicated by its excellent reproducibility and repeatability with relative standard deviations (RSD) of only 5.93% and 4.73%, respectively. Characterized by flexibility and a water-attractive yet non-soluble surface, the flexible Paper/f-TiO 2 /Ag chips offer the convenience of direct immersion into the analytical sample, facilitating seamless target molecule collection while circumventing interference signals. Termed the "dip and dry" technique, its advantages in field analysis are indisputable, boasting in situ deployment, simplicity, and high efficiency, while minimizing interference signals to negligible levels. Through the application of this advanced technique, we have successfully detected TCZ in two high-value crops, ST25 rice and dragon fruit, achieving excellent recovery values ranging from 90 to 128%. This underscores its immense potential in ensuring food quality and safety. Background: Afatinib, a second-generation epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) tyrosine kinase, has proven effective for non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with EGFR mutations through randomized controlled trials and real-world studies. Elderly patients exhibit unique characteristics in terms of physical condition and comorbidities, leading to differences in clinical practice for selecting the initial dosage and making dose adjustments compared to younger patients. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and adverse effects of first-line Afatinib treatment in elderly patients with NSCLC harboring EGFR mutations in Vietnam in a real-world context., Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 135 patients, aged 65 years and older, across nine cancer centers in Vietnam. These patients, who harbored drug-sensitive EGFR mutations (excluding de novo T790M), received first-line Afatinib treatment between April 2018 and June 2022. The primary endpoints, time to treatment failure (TTF), and overall survival (OS) were assessed using the Kaplan-Meier method, and comparisons were conducted using the log-rank test. Secondary endpoints included the overall response rate (ORR) according to RECIST 1.1 and adverse effects as classified by CTCAE 4.0., Results: The median age was 71.2 years (SD ± 5.3). Comorbidities included cardiovascular disease (20.7%), diabetes (5.2%), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (2.2%), and hepatitis B (0.7%). Common mutations constituted 71.9% of cases, with uncommon mutations representing 28.1%. Brain metastases were observed in 24.4% of patients. Initial treatment doses were 40 mg for 35.6% of patients and 30 mg for 62.2%. With a median follow-up of 34.3 months, the median TTF was 16.3 months (95% CI: 15.4-19.5), and the median OS was 32.9 months (95% CI: 28.9-37.5). Factors associated with decreased OS included poor performance status, current smoking, and the presence of uncommon mutations. The ORR was 77.8%, with a complete response of 11.1% and a disease control rate of 94.1%. The most common toxicities were dermatologic and mucosal, including diarrhea (55.6%), rash (48.9%), and stomatitis (40.7%), predominantly in grades 1 and 2. Initiating treatment at doses below 40 mg significantly reduced most toxicities compared to the 40 mg dose. The presence of brain metastases did not significantly affect ORR, TTF, or OS. Starting treatment at doses below 40 mg significantly lowered the response rate but did not impact TTF or OS., Conclusion: First-line treatment with Afatinib in elderly patients with NSCLC and EGFR mutations demonstrates significant efficacy and manageable toxicity in a Vietnamese multicenter real-life setting. The effectiveness of Afatinib was confirmed, with known and well-controlled adverse effects, supporting its use in this patient population.

Purpose: To investigate the variability in urinary stone composition analysis due to sampling and suggest potential solutions., Materials and Methods: We collected 1,135 stone fragments from 149 instances that had undergone a stone removal at Hanoi Medical University Hospital from January 2022 to August 2022. Each fragment was ground into fine powder and divided into separate specimens if the amount was abundant. For composition analyzing every specimen, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was performed. The composition of a given fragment was the average of its belonging specimens. The variability in composition was assessed on the fragment level (i.e., between fragments of an instance). We defined an instance as "significantly variable" if the maximum difference in any composition across its belonging fragments was equal to or greater than a given threshold., Results: On average, there were 7.6±3.3 stone fragments per instance and 2.3±0.5 specimens per fragment. We found that the variability could be substantial on the fragment level. Eighty-nine (69.5%) and 70 (54.7%) out of 128 multiple-component instances were significantly variable if the threshold was set at 20% and 30%, respectively. The variability of an instance on the fragment level was correlated with the size of fragment and the number of components., Conclusions: Our study demonstrated the significant variability in urinary stone composition and showed that it correlated with the size and the impurity of samples. Nanozymes based on manganese oxide (MnO 2 ) are demonstrated to be promising probes in colorimetric sensing applications. In this study, the r-MnO 2 /β-MnO 2 heterophase nanostructure was simply prepared by a calcination process with controllable temperature. The characterization of the nanostructured material was confirmed by SEM, UV-vis spectroscopy, Raman, TGA-DSC, and XRD analysis. The r-MnO 2 /β-MnO 2 exhibits a remarkably good catalytic activity in the oxidation process of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) compared with the r-MnO 2 or Mn 2 O 3 nanostructure owing to its heterophase junctions. The enhanced performance of the colorimetric sensor for ascorbic acid (AA) detection was investigated using the r-MnO 2 /β-MnO 2 heterophase nanostructure as probe. The r-MnO 2 /β-MnO 2 material enhanced the monitoring of AA in the wide linear range from 1 µM to 50 μM with a limit of detection of 0.84 µM. Background: Patients with EGFR-mutated non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and MET amplification as a mechanism of resistance to first-line osimertinib have few treatment options. Here, we report the primary analysis of the phase 2 INSIGHT 2 study evaluating tepotinib, a highly selective MET inhibitor, combined with osimertinib in this population., Methods: This open-label, phase 2 study was conducted at 179 academic centres and community clinics in 17 countries. Eligible patients were aged 18 years or older with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0 or 1 and advanced or metastatic EGFR-mutated NSCLC of any histology, with MET amplification by tissue biopsy fluorescence in-situ hybridisation (FISH; MET gene copy number of ≥5 or MET-to-CEP7 ratio of ≥2) or liquid biopsy next-generation sequencing (MET plasma gene copy number of ≥2·3), following progression on first-line osimertinib. Patients received oral tepotinib 500 mg plus oral osimertinib 80 mg once daily. The primary endpoint was independently assessed objective response in patients with MET amplification by central FISH treated with tepotinib plus osimertinib with at least 9 months of follow-up. Safety was analysed in patients who received at least one study drug dose. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03940703 (enrolment complete)., Findings: Between Feb 13, 2020, and Nov 4, 2022, 128 patients (74 [58%] female, 54 [42%] male) were enrolled and initiated tepotinib plus osimertinib. The primary activity analysis population included 98 patients with MET amplification confirmed by central FISH, previous first-line osimertinib and at least 9 months of follow-up (median 12·7 months [IQR 9·9-20·3]). The confirmed objective response rate was 50·0% (95% CI 39·7-60·3; 49 of 98 patients). The most common treatment-related grade 3 or worse adverse events were peripheral oedema (six [5%] of 128 patients), decreased appetite (five [4%]), prolonged electrocardiogram QT interval (five [4%]), and pneumonitis (four [3%]). Serious treatment-related adverse events were reported in 16 (13%) patients. In this study, we demonstrate the influence of crystallinity and morphology on the analytical performance of various Cu 2 MoS 4 (CMS) nanocatalysts-based electrochemical sensors for the high-efficiency detection of Ofloxacin (OFX) antibiotic. The electrochemical kinetics parameters including peak current response (Δ Ip ), peak-to-peak separation (Δ Ep ), electrochemically active surface area (ECSA), electron-transfer resistance (R ct ), were obtained through the electrochemical analyses, which indicate the single-crystalline nature of CMS nanomaterials (NMs) is beneficial for enhanced electron-transfer kinetics. The morphological features and the electrochemical results for OFX detection substantiate that by tuning the tube-like to plate-like structures of the CMS NMs, it might noticeably enhance multiple adsorption sites and more intrinsic active catalytic sites due to the diffusion of analytes into the interstitial spaces between CMS nanoplates. As results, highly single-crystalline and plate-shaped morphology structures of CMS NMs would significantly enhance the electrocatalytic OFX oxidation in terms of onset potential (E onset ), Tafel slope, catalytic rate constant (k cat ), and adsorption capacity (Γ). The study was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the Aristolochia bracteolata water flower extract-mediated AgNPs synthesis and assess their antimicrobial potential. According to the experimental and analytical results, A. bracteolata flower extract can produce valuable AgNPs. The characteristic features of these AgNPs were assessed with UV-visible spectrophotometer, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, Transmission Electron Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscopy, as well as. Under UV-vis. spectrum results, showed major peak at 430 nm and recorded essential functional groups responsible for reducing, capping, and stabilizing AgNPs by FT-IR analysis. In addition, the size and shape of the synthesized AgNPs were found as 21.11-25.17 nm and spherical/octahedral shape. The A. bracteolata fabricated NPs showed remarkable antimicrobial activity against fish bacterial pathogens (V. parahaemolytics, Serratia sp., B. subtilis, and E. coli) as well as common fungal pathogens (A. niger, C. albicans, A. flavus, and A. terreus) at the quantity of 100 μg mL -1 than positive controls. Nevertheless, it was not effective against human bacterial pathogens. Pakchoi ( Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis ) is one of the most widely consumed vegetables in Asian countries, and it is high in secondary metabolites. The availability, quantity, and quality of light play a critical role in the growth and development of plants. In this study, we investigated the effect of LEDs (light-emitting diodes; white, blue, red, and red + blue) on anthocyanin, glucosinolates, and phenolic levels in red pakchoi baby leaves. On the 24th day after sowing (DAS), red baby pakchoi leaves were harvested, and shoot length, root length, and fresh weight were measured. Among the different LED treatments, there was no significant difference in shoot length, whereas the highest root length was achieved in the red + blue LED treatment (23.8 cm). The fresh weight also showed a significant difference among the different LED treatments. In total, 12 phenolic and 7 glucosinolate individual compounds were identified using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. The highest total glucosinolate (2937 μg/g dry wt) and phenolic (1589 μg/g dry wt) contents were achieved in baby leaves exposed to red + blue light. Similarly, the highest contents of total anthocyanins (1726 μg/g dry wt), flavonoids (4920 μg/g dry wt), and phenolics (5900 μg/g dry wt) were achieved in the red + blue treatment. Plants exposed to red + blue LED light showed the highest accumulation of anthocyanin, glucosinolates, and phenolic compounds. For antioxidant activity, DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazylradical) free radical scavenging, ABTS (2,2-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline)-6-sulfonic acid) radical scavenging, and reducing power assays were performed, and the antioxidant activity of red pakchoi baby leaves grown under red + blue LED light was found to be the best. The metabolic profiling of the identified metabolites revealed distinct separation based on the secondary metabolites. Early neurological deterioration (END) is progressive neurological deterioration with an increase in NIHSS score of 2 points or more in the first 72 hours from the onset of acute ischemic stroke. END increases the risk of poor clinical outcomes at day 90 of ischemic stroke. We will study the frequency, predictors, and outcomes of patients with END in a case-control study at a comprehensive stroke centre in Vietnam. of the design is a descriptive observational study, longitudinal follow-up of patients with minor stroke hospitalized at the Stroke Center of Bach Mai Hospital from December 1, 2023, to December 1, 2024. Minor stroke patients characterized by NIHSS score ≤ 5 hospitalized within 24 hours of symptom onset will be recruited. The estimated END rate is about 30%, relative accuracy ε = 0.11, 95% reliability, expected 5% of patients lost data or follow-up, and an estimated sample size of 779 patients. This study will help determine the END rate in patients with minor stroke and related factors, thereby building a prognostic model for END. Despite being an excellent surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) active material, gold nanoparticles were difficult to be loaded onto the surface of filter paper to fabricate flexible SERS substrates. In this study, electrochemically synthesized gold nanoparticles (e-AuNPs) were deposited on graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets in solution by ultrasonication, resulting in the formation of a GO/Au hybrid material. Thanks to the support of GO, the hybrid material could adhere onto the surface of filter paper, which was immersed into a GO/Au solution for 24 h and dried naturally at room temperature. The paper-based materials were then employed as substrates for a surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensing platform to detect tricyclazole (TCZ), a widely used pesticide, resulting in better sensitivity compared to the use of paper/Au SERS sensors. With the most optimal GO content of 4%, paper/GO/Au SERS sensors could achieve a limit of detection of 1.32 × 10 -10 M in standard solutions. Furthermore, the filter paper-based SERS sensors also exhibited significant advantages in sample collection in real samples. On one hand, the sensors were dipped into orange juice, allowing TCZ molecules in this real sample to be adsorbed onto their SERS active surface. On the other hand, they were pasted onto cucumber skin to collect the analytes. As a result, the paper/GO/Au SERS sensors could sense TCZ in orange juice and on cucumber skin at concentrations as low as 10 -9 M (∼2 ppb). This study is focused on investigating the chemical composition and bioactive properties of the essential oil extracted from Psychotria asiatica L., a plant species known for its medicinal properties. Utilising gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis, the essential oil from P. asiatica was found to contain 53 distinct constituents. Major compounds identified include ( E )-citral (20.6%), 10- epi - γ -eudesmol (15.9%), ( Z )-citral (10.5%), geraniol (7.4%), α -cadinol (6.7%), 7- epi - α -eudesmol (4.4%), linalool (3.7%), and α -muurolol (3.4%). The essential oil did not exhibit antioxidant activity, as indicated by an IC 50 value of > 100 µg/mL, whereas the positive control L -Ascorbic acid had an IC 50 of 7.37 ± 0.27 µg/mL in the DPPH model. Assessment of its anti-inflammatory potential revealed an inhibitory effect on NO production, with an IC 50 value of 29.08 ± 1.54 µg/mL in Lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW264.7 macrophage cells. Furthermore, the essential oil demonstrated significant cytotoxicity against the SK-LU-1 cancer cell line, with an IC 50 value of 39.75 ± 1.79 μg/mL according to the sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been regarded as a highly promising substrate for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensors. In this study, we focused on the electrochemical synthesis method by developing three kinds of AgNPs using three different electrolytes: citrate (e-Ag-C), oleic acid (e-Ag-O) and fish mint ( Houttuynia cordata Thunb.) extract (e-Ag-bio). The as-prepared AgNPs were characterized and then employed as SERS substrates to detect the pesticide thiram. The obtained results show that e-Ag-O exhibits the best SERS performance. The effect of the coating agent was explained by chemical and electromagnetic enhancements (CM and EM). Although thiram could absorb onto e-Ag-C at the highest level, allowing its Raman signal to be best enhanced via the CM, the smallest interparticle distance of e-Ag-O could have resulted in the largest improvement in the EM. Using e-Ag-O to develop SERS-based sensors for thiram, we obtain the impressive detection limit of 1.04 × 10 -10 M in standard samples and 10 -9 M in tea leaves. Citrus fruit yield is essential for market stability, as it allows businesses to plan for production and distribution. However, yield estimation is a complex and time-consuming process that often requires a large number of field samples to ensure representativeness. To address this challenge, we investigated the optimal altitude for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) imaging to estimate the yield of Citrus unshiu fruit. We captured images from five different altitudes (30 m, 50 m, 70 m, 90 m, and 110 m), and determined that a resolution of approximately 5 pixels/cm is necessary for reliable estimation of fruit size based on the average diameter of C. unshiu fruit (46.7 mm). Additionally, we found that histogram equalization of the images improved fruit count estimation compared to using untreated images. At the images from 30 m height, the normal image estimates fruit numbers as 73, 55, and 88. However, the histogram equalized image estimates 88, 71, 105. The actual number of fruits is 124, 88, and 141. Using a Vegetation Index such as I PCA showed a similar estimation value to histogram equalization, but I 1 estimation represents a gap to actual yields. Our results provide a valuable database for future UAV field investigations of citrus fruit yield. Similar to most anthraquinone compounds, the pharmacological properties of emodin are limited because of its low water solubility. In this study, the formulation of chitosan and emodin (EMD/CS) was prepared by a bottom-up method with precipitation and sonication steps in order to enhance the solubility of emodin. Thanks to the interactions of oxygen-and nitrogen-containing groups in chitosan with emodin molecules, the solubility of emodin in the formulation was remarkably increased to 0.5 mg/mL. The EMD/CS particles were well dispersed and distributed in a range of sub-micrometer with an average particle size of 342 nm. The EMD/CS formulation exhibited synergic antibacterial activity of emodin and chitosan, against drug-resistant bacterial strains, namely Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Escherichia coli O157:H7 ( E. coli O157:H7). When the compositions of emodin and chitosan increased, the antibacterial effectiveness of the EMD/CS formulation increased. The EMD/CS formulation with compositions of 0.5 mg/mL of emodin and 9.0 mg/mL of chitosan could significantly inhibit the proliferation of E. coli O157:H7. Meanwhile, the EMD/CS formulation with a lower concentration of emodin (0.4 mg/mL) and chitosan (7.2 mg/mL) could cause an extermination effect on MRSA. The enhanced solubility of EMD/CS formulation suggests that this formulation can be a potential candidate for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by drug-resistant bacterial pathogens.

The rapid and efficient detection of chloride (Cl - ) ions is crucial in a variety of fields, making the development of advanced sensing methods such as colorimetric sensors an imperative advancement in analytical chemistry. Herein, a novel, selective, and straightforward paper-based colorimetric sensing platform has been developed utilizing an amorphous photonic array (APA) of magnetoplasmonic Ag@Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (MagPlas NPs) for the detection of Cl - in water. Taking advantage of the highly responsive APA, the key principle of this sensing method is based on the chemical reaction between Ag + and Cl - , which results in the precipitation of high-refractive index (RI) AgCl. This assay, distinct from typical plasmonic sensors that rely heavily on nanoparticle aggregation/anti-aggregation, is premised on the precipitation reaction of Ag + and Cl - . In the presence of Cl - , a rapid, distinctive color alteration from royal purple to a dark sky blue is visually observable within a short time of a few minutes, eliminating the necessity for any surface modification procedures. In this study, crystalline spinel zinc ferrite nanoparticles (ZnFe 2 O 4 NPs) were successfully prepared and proposed as a high-performance electrode material for the construction of an electrochemical sensing platform for the detection of paracetamol (PCM). By modifying a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPE) with ZnFe 2 O 4 NPs, the electrochemical characteristics of the ZnFe 2 O 4 /SPE and the electrochemical oxidation of PCM were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), chronoamperometry (CA), and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) methods. The calculated electrochemical kinetic parameters from these techniques including electrochemically active surface area (ECSA), peak-to-peak separation (Δ E p ), charge transfer resistance ( R ct ), standard heterogeneous electron-transfer rate constants ( k 0 ), electron transfer coefficient ( α ), catalytic rate constant ( k cat ), adsorption capacity ( Γ ), and diffusion coefficient ( D ) proved that the as-synthesized ZnFe 2 O 4 NPs have rapid electron/mass transfer characteristics, intrinsic electrocatalytic activity, and facilitate the adsorption-diffusion of PCM molecules towards the modified electrode surface. As expected, the ZnFe 2 O 4 /SPE offered excellent analytical performance towards sensing of PCM with a detection limit of 0.29 μM, a wide linear range of 0.5-400 μM, and high electrochemical sensitivity of 1.1 μA μM -1 cm -2 . Moreover, the proposed ZnFe 2 O 4 -based electrochemical nanosensor also exhibited good repeatability, high anti-interference ability, and practical feasibility toward PCM sensing in a pharmaceutical tablet. A functional ternary substrate was developed for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensing systems. MnO 2 nanosheets were synthesized by a simple and controllable hydrothermal method, followed by the integration of graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets. Subsequently, MnO 2 /GO nanostructures were decorated with plasmonic Ag nanoparticles (e-AgNPs). The MnO 2 /GO/e-Ag substrate could enhance the SERS sensing signal for organic chemicals without the assistance of chemical bonds between those analytes and the semiconductor within the ternary substrate, which have been proven to promote charge transfer and elevate the SERS enhancement in previous studies. Instead, GO nanosheets acted as a carpet also supporting the MnO 2 nanosheets and e-AgNPs to form a porous structure, allowing the analytes to be well-adsorbed onto the ternary substrate, which improved the sensing performance of the SERS platform, compared to pure e-AgNPs, MnO 2 /e-Ag, and GO/e-Ag alone. The GO content in the nanocomposite was also considered to optimize the SERS substrate. Crystal violet (CV) is an organic dye that is stabilized by the extensive resonance delocalization of electrons over three electron-donating amine groups. This prevents the molecule from being linked to a metal surface, and therefore, reduces the sensitivity of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensors for this toxic dye. In this work, we improved the sensing performance of a silver-based SERS sensor for CV detection by modifying the active substrate. Molybdenum sulfide (MoS 2 ) nanosheets were employed as a scaffold for anchoring electrochemically synthesized silver nanoparticles (e-AgNPs) through a single step of ultrasonication, leading to the formation of MoS 2 /Ag nanocomposites. As an excellent adsorbent, MoS 2 promoted the adsorption of CV onto the surface of the substrate, allowing more CV molecules to be able to experience the SERS effect originating from the e-AgNPs. Hence, the SERS signal of CV was significantly enhanced. In addition, the effects of the MoS 2 content of the nanocomposites on their SERS performance were also taken into account. Using MoS 2 /Ag with the most optimal MoS 2 content of 10%, the SERS sensor exhibited the best enhancement of the SERS signal of CV with an impressive detection limit of 1.17 × 10 -11 M in standard water and 10 -9 M in tap water thanks to an enhancement factor of 2.9 × 10 6 , which was 11.2 times higher than that using pure e-AgNPs.

Objectives: To evaluate the clinical presentation, management, and outcomes of bile duct injuries (BDIs) after laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC)., Methods: This is a case series of 28 patients with BDIs after LC treated at a tertiary hospital in Vietnam during the 2006-2021 period. The BDI's clinical presentations, Strasberg classification types, management methods, and outcomes were reported., Results: BDIs were diagnosed intraoperatively in 3 (10.7%) patients and postoperatively in 25 (89.3%). The BDI types included Strasberg A (13, 46.4%), D (1, 3.6%), E1 (1, 3.6%), E2 (4, 14.3%), E3 (5, 17.9%), D + E2 (2, 7.1%), and nonclassified (2, 7.1%). Of the postoperative BDIs, the injury manifested as biliary obstruction (18, 72.0%), bile leak (5, 20.0%), and mixed scenarios (2, 8.0%). Regarding diagnostic methods, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) was more useful in bile leak scenarios, while multislice computed tomography, magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography, and percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography were more useful in biliary obstruction scenarios. All 28 BDIs were successfully treated. ERCP with stenting was very effective in the majority of Strasberg A BDIs. For more complex BDI types, hepaticocutaneous jejunostomy was a safe and effective approach. The in-hospital morbidities included postoperative pneumonia (2, 10.7%) and biliary-enteric anastomosis leakage (1, 5.4%). There was no cholangitis or anastomotic stenosis during the follow-up after discharge (median 18 months)., Conclusions: The majority of BDIs are type A and diagnosed postoperatively. Flexible surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensors have gained significant attention for their practical applications in detecting chemical and biological molecules. However, the fabrication of flexible SERS chips is often complex and requires advanced techniques. In this study, we present a simple and rapid method to design a flexible SERS chip based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), cellulose, and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using mechanical stirring and drying methods. Benefiting from the abundant hydroxide groups on cellulose, AgNPs easily adhere and distribute evenly on the cellulose surface. The combination of PVA and cellulose forms a bendable film-like SERS chip. This chip allows convenient immersion in liquid analyte samples. We demonstrate its effectiveness by using it to detect the thiram pesticide in apple juice using the "dip and dry" method, achieving an outstanding detection limit of 1.01 × 10 -8  M. The Raman signals on the SERS chips exhibit high repeatability and reproducibility, with relative standard deviation values below 10%. In this work, a series of unsaturated polyester resin (UPRs)/electrochemically exfoliated graphene oxide (e-GO) polymer nanocomposites with different ratios of e-GO (0.05, 0.1, 0.15, and 0.2 wt%) were prepared via an in situ polymerization method. The surface morphology and structural and chemical properties of the original UPR and UPR/e-GO nanocomposites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The positive influence of e-GO nanosheets on the mechanical properties, thermal stability, and anti-UV aging performance of UPR/e-GO nanocomposites was demonstrated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The obtained results showed that the incorporation of e-GO nanosheets within the UPR matrix, despite the addition of e-GO at as low as 0.2 wt% comprehensively improves the advanced functional properties of UPR/e-GO nanocomposites as compared to the original UPR. Owing to the effective combination between MoS 2 sheets with CuInS 2 nanoparticles (NPs), a direct Z-scheme heterojunction was successfully constructed and proved as a promising structure to modify the working electrode surface with the aim of enhancing overall sensing performance towards CAP detection. Herein, MoS 2 was employed as a high mobility carrier transport channel with a strong photo-response, large specific surface area, and high in-plane electron mobility, while CuInS 2 acted as an efficient light absorber. This not only offered a stable nanocomposite structure but also created impressive synergistic effects of high electron conductivity, large surface area, highlight exposure interface, as well as favorable electron transfer process. Moreover, the possible mechanism and hypothesis of the transfer pathway of photo-induced electron-hole pairs on the CuInS 2 -MoS 2 /SPE as well as their impacts on the redox reaction of K 3 /K 4 probes and CAP were proposed and investigated in detail via a series of calculated kinetic parameters, demonstrating the high practical applicability of light-assisted electrodes. Indeed, the detection concentration range of the proposed electrode was widened from 0.1 to 50 μM, compared with that of 1-50 μM without irradiation. Background: Despite immunotherapy advancements for patients with advanced or metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), pivotal first-line trials were limited to patients with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOG PS) 0-1 and a median age of 65 years or younger. We aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of first-line atezolizumab monotherapy with single-agent chemotherapy in patients ineligible for platinum-based chemotherapy., Methods: This trial was a phase 3, open-label, randomised controlled study conducted at 91 sites in 23 countries across Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. Eligible patients had stage IIIB or IV NSCLC in whom platinum-doublet chemotherapy was deemed unsuitable by the investigator due to an ECOG PS 2 or 3, or alternatively, being 70 years or older with an ECOG PS 0-1 with substantial comorbidities or contraindications for platinum-doublet chemotherapy. Patients were randomised 2:1 by permuted-block randomisation (block size of six) to receive 1200 mg of atezolizumab given intravenously every 3 weeks or single-agent chemotherapy (vinorelbine [oral or intravenous] or gemcitabine [intravenous]; dosing per local label) at 3-weekly or 4-weekly cycles. The primary endpoint was overall survival assessed in the intention-to-treat population. Safety analyses were conducted in the safety-evaluable population, which included all randomised patients who received any amount of atezolizumab or chemotherapy. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03191786., Findings: Between Sept 11, 2017, and Sept 23, 2019, 453 patients were enrolled and randomised to receive atezolizumab (n=302) or chemotherapy (n=151). Atezolizumab improved overall survival compared with chemotherapy (median overall survival 10·3 months [95% CI 9·4-11·9] vs 9·2 months [5·9-11·2]; stratified hazard ratio 0·78 [0·63-0·97], p=0·028), with a 2-year survival rate of 24% (95% CI 19·3-29·4) with atezolizumab compared with 12% (6·7-18·0) with chemotherapy. We develop an iterative, adaptive frequency sensing protocol based on Ramsey interferometry of a two-level system. Our scheme allows one to estimate unknown frequencies with a high precision from short, finite signals consisting of only a small number of Ramsey fringes. It avoids several issues related to processing of decaying signals and reduces the experimental overhead related to sampling. High precision is achieved by enhancing the Ramsey sequence to prepare with high fidelity both the sensing and readout state and by using an iterative procedure built to mitigate systematic errors when estimating frequencies from Fourier transforms. A comparison with state-of-the-art dynamical decoupling techniques reveals a significant speedup of the frequency estimation without loss of precision.

Introduction: The use of drought tolerant genotypes is one of the main strategies proposed for coping with the negative effects of global warming in dry lands. Trichloris crinita is a native forage grass occupying extensive arid and semi-arid regions in the American continent, and used for range grazing and revegetation of degraded lands., Methods: To identify drought-tolerant genotypes and possible underlying physiological mechanisms, this study investigated drought tolerance in 21 genetically diverse T. crinita genotypes under natural field conditions. The accessions were grown under irrigated (control) and drought conditions for 84 days after initiation of the drought treatment (DAIDT), which coincided with flowering initiation. Various morpho-physiological traits were monitored, including total-, foliage-, and root biomass yield, dry matter partitioning to individual plant organs (roots, leaves, stems, and panicles), total leaf area, chlorophyll content, photochemical efficiency of photosystem II, stomatal conductance, and number of panicles per plant., Results and Discussion: Broad and significant variation (p<0.001) was found among the accessions for all the traits. Three highly tolerant and three very sensitive accessions were identified as the most contrasting materials, and their responses to drought stress were confirmed over two years of experiments. Under prolonged drought conditions (84 DAIDT), the tolerant accessions were generally more productive than the rest for all the biomass yield components analyzed, and this was associated with a postponed and more attenuated decrease in variables related to the plant photosynthetic activity, such as stomatal conductance, chlorophyll content, and photochemical efficiency. In contrast to previous findings, our data indicate no direct relationship between drought tolerance and the level of aridity in the accessions natural habitats, but rather suggest genetic heterogeneity and ample variation for drought tolerance in T. crinita natural populations derived from a particular location or environment. Also, having low total and forageable biomass yield, or increased biomass allocation to the roots (i.e., lower foliage/root ratio), under optimal water availability, were not associated with greater drought tolerance. Taking advantage of metal-semiconductor junctions, functional nanocomposites have been designed and developed as active substrates for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensing systems. In this work, we prepared three types of nanocomposites based on manganese oxide (MnO 2 ) nanostructures and electrochemically synthesized silver nanoparticles (e-AgNPs), which differed according to the morphologies of MnO 2 . The SERS performance of MnO 2 nanosheet/e-Ag (MnO 2 -s/e-Ag), MnO 2 nanorod/e-Ag (MnO 2 -r/e-Ag), and MnO 2 nanowire/e-Ag (MnO 2 -w/e-Ag) was then evaluated using tricyclazole (TCZ), a commonly used pesticide, as an analyte. Compared to the others, MnO 2 -s/e-Ag exhibited the most remarkable SERS enhancement. Thanks to its large surface area and ability to accept/donate the electrons of the semiconductor, MnO 2 -s acted as a bridge to improve the charge transfer efficiency from e-Ag to TCZ. In addition, the MnO 2 content of the nanocomposites was also considered to optimize the SERS sensing performance. With the optimal MnO 2 content of 25 wt%, MnO 2 -s/e-Ag could achieve the best SERS performance, allowing the detection of TCZ at concentrations down to 6 × 10 -12 M in standard solutions and 10 -11 M in real rice samples.

Microalgae have great potential in producing energy-dense and valuable products via thermochemical processes. Therefore, producing alternative bio-oil to fossil fuel from microalgae has rapidly gained popularity due to its environmentally friendly process and elevated productivity. This current work aims to review comprehensively the microalgae bio-oil production using pyrolysis and hydrothermal liquefaction. In addition, core mechanisms of pyrolysis and hydrothermal liquefaction process for microalgae were scrutinized, showing that the presence of lipids and proteins could contribute to forming a large amount of compounds containing O and N elements in bio-oil. However, applying proper catalysts and advanced technologies for the two aforementioned approaches could improve the quality, heating value, and yield of microalgae bio-oil. Background: MicroRNA-1246 (miR-1246), an oncomiR that regulates the expression of multiple cancer-related genes, has been attracted and studied as a promising indicator of various tumors. However, diverse conclusions on diagnostic accuracy have been shown due to the small sample size and limited studies included. This meta-analysis is aimed at systematically assessing the performance of extracellular circulating miR-1246 in screening common cancers., Methods: We searched the PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar databases for relevant studies until November 28, 2022. Then, the summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curves were drawn and calculated area under the curve (AUC), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), sensitivity, and specificity values of circulating miR-1246 in the cancer surveillance., Results: After selection and quality assessment, 29 eligible studies with 5914 samples (3232 cases and 2682 controls) enrolled in the final analysis. The pooled AUC, DOR, sensitivity, and specificity of circulating miR-1246 in screening cancers were 0.885 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.827-0.892), 27.7 (95% CI: 17.1-45.0), 84.2% (95% CI: 79.4-88.1), and 85.3% (95% CI: 80.5-89.2), respectively. Among cancer types, superior performance was noted for breast cancer (AUC = 0.950, DOR = 98.5) compared to colorectal cancer (AUC = 0.905, DOR = 47.6), esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (AUC = 0.757, DOR = 8.0), hepatocellular carcinoma (AUC = 0.872, DOR = 18.6), pancreatic cancer (AUC = 0.767, DOR = 12.3), and others (AUC = 0.887, DOR = 27.5, P = 0.007). New antimicrobial strategies are urgently needed to meet the challenges posed by the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria and bacterial biofilms. This work reports the facile synthesis of antimicrobial dynamic covalent nano-networks (aDCNs) composing antibiotics bearing multiple primary amines, polyphenols, and a cross-linker acylphenylboronic acid. Mechanistically, the iminoboronate bond drives the formation of aDCNs, facilitates their stability, and renders them highly responsive to stimuli, such as low pH and high H 2 O 2 levels. Besides, the representative A1B1C1 networks, composed of polymyxin B1( A1 ), 2-formylphenylboronic acid ( B1 ), and quercetin ( C1 ), inhibit biofilm formation of drug-resistant Escherichia coli , eliminate the mature biofilms, alleviate macrophage inflammation, and minimize the side effects of free polymyxins. Excellent bacterial eradication and inflammation amelioration efficiency of A1B1C1 networks are also observed in a peritoneal infection model. As Earth's climate has varied strongly through geological time, studying the impacts of past climate change on biodiversity helps to understand the risks from future climate change. However, it remains unclear how paleoclimate shapes spatial variation in biodiversity. Here, we assessed the influence of Quaternary climate change on spatial dissimilarity in taxonomic, phylogenetic, and functional composition among neighboring 200-kilometer cells (beta-diversity) for angiosperm trees worldwide. We found that larger glacial-interglacial temperature change was strongly associated with lower spatial turnover (species replacements) and higher nestedness (richness changes) components of beta-diversity across all three biodiversity facets. Moreover, phylogenetic and functional turnover was lower and nestedness higher than random expectations based on taxonomic beta-diversity in regions that experienced large temperature change, reflecting phylogenetically and functionally selective processes in species replacement, extinction, and colonization during glacial-interglacial oscillations. Our results suggest that future human-driven climate change could cause local homogenization and reduction in taxonomic, phylogenetic, and functional diversity of angiosperm trees worldwide.

The electrochemical behavior and sensing performance of an electrode modified with NiFe 2 O 4 (NFO), MoS 2 , and MoS 2 -NFO were thoroughly investigated using CV, EIS, DPV, and CA measurements, respectively. MoS 2 -NFO/SPE provided a higher sensing performance towards the detection of clenbuterol (CLB) than other proposed electrodes. After optimization of pH and accumulation time, the current response recorded at MoS 2 -NFO/SPE linearly increased with an increase of CLB concentration in the range from 1 to 50 μM, corresponding to a LOD of 0.471 μM. In the presence of an external magnetic field, there were positive impacts not only on mass transfer, ionic/charge diffusion, and absorption capacity but also on the electrocatalytic ability for redox reactions of CLB. As a result, the linear range was widened to 0.5-50 μM and the LOD value was about 0.161 μM. In this study, bio-Ag/ZnO NCs were synthesized via a microwave-assisted biogenic electrochemical method using mangosteen ( Garcinia mangostana ) peel extract as a biogenic reducing agent for the reduction of Zn 2+ and Ag + ions to form hybrid nanoparticles. The as-synthesized NC samples at three different microwave irradiation temperatures ( Z 70 , Z 80 , Z 90 ) exhibited a remarkable difference in size and crystallinity that directly impacted their electrocatalytic behaviors as well as electrochemical sensing performance. The obtained results indicate that the Z 90 sample showed the highest electrochemical performance among the investigated samples, which is attributed to the improved particle size distribution and crystal microstructure that enhanced charge transfer and the electroactive surface area. Under the optimal conditions for carbaryl pesticide detection, the proposed nanosensor exhibited a high electrochemical sensitivity of up to 0.303 μA μM -1 cm -2 with a detection limit of LOD ∼0.27 μM for carbaryl pesticide detection in a linear range of 0.25-100 μM. This study introduces the bioformulations of Ag/BBR and ZnO/BBR complexes against pathogenic bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. Without the use of toxic reduction agents, Ag and ZnO NPs were prepared using an electrochemical method and then facially mixed with BBR solution to form Ag/BBR and ZnO/BBR complexes. BBR molecules are strongly conjugated with Ag and ZnO NPs through coordinated bonding and electrostatic interaction. As a result, the presence of BBR significantly influenced the nanoparticle growth, resulting in the formation of core/shell structured Ag/BBR and ZnO/BBR NPs with small particle sizes. The antibacterial test showed that BBR, Ag, or ZnO components all contributed to the increase of antibacterial ability of Ag/BBR and ZnO/BBR NPs against both methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Salmonella enteritidis ( S. enteritidis ). The bactericidal ability of Ag/BBR and ZnO/BBR complexes against MRSA was exhibited even at a concentration of four-fold dilution (corresponding to 1.25 g L -1 of BBR and 46.25 mg L -1 of Ag) and two-fold dilution (corresponding to 2.5 g L -1 of BBR and 10 mg L -1 of ZnO), respectively, while that of the Ag/BBR complex against S. enteritidis showed at a concentration of two-fold dilution corresponding to 2.5 g L -1 of BBR and 92.5 mg L -1 of Ag. Introduction: Harm reduction services, including methadone maintenance therapy (MMT), have been decentralized to Vietnam's community health care settings. This study aims to pilot test an intervention to facilitate decentralized harm reduction service delivery in Vietnam., Methods: The research team conducted an intervention pilot between August 2020 and May 2021 with six community MMT distribution sites in Thai Nguyen Province of Vietnam. We recruited five commune health workers (CHW) from each center (N = 30). In-person intervention training included content to correct misconceptions about harm reduction and reduce stigmatizing attitudes toward patients who use drugs and teach CHWs to self-examine and improve their service provision process. The study team developed a web-based platform to streamline CHW's patient monitoring and referral efforts. The team assessed intervention outcomes at baseline, 3-, and 6-months. CHWs in the intervention group provided acceptability ratings and feedback on the intervention at 6-months., Results: CHWs in both intervention and control groups had similar background characteristics and outcome measures at baseline. CHWs in the intervention group, compared to those in the control group, showed a significantly higher level of improvement in adherence to service delivery protocol at 3-months. CHW in the intervention group had a significantly lower level of management-related stress compared to the control group at 6-months, although the intervention effect measured by the difference in change from baseline was not statistically significant. CHWs who participated in the final focus group reported high acceptability of the intervention., Conclusion: This intervention pilot demonstrated acceptability and promising outcomes on community-based harm reduction service delivery. In recent years, light-emitting diode (LED) technology has been applied to improve crop production and induce targeted biochemical or physiological responses in plants. This study investigated the effect of different ratios of blue 450 nm and red 660 nm LEDs on the overall plant growth, photosynthetic characteristics, and total triterpenoid production in the leaves of Hedyotis corymbosa in vitro plants. The results showed that a high proportion of blue LED lights had a positive effect on enhancing photosynthesis and the overall biomass. In addition, blue LED lights were shown to be more effective in controlling the production of the total triterpenoid content compared with the red LED lights. Moreover, it was also found that plants grown under a high proportion of red LEDs exhibited reduced photosynthetic properties and even induced damage to the photosynthetic apparatus, which indicated that the blue or red LED lights played contrary roles in Hedyotis corymbosa .

Despite the utilization of external magnetic field (MF) in promoting the intrinsic unique features of magnetic nanomaterials in many different applications has been reported, however the origin of MF-dependent electrochemical behaviors as well as the electrochemical response of analytes at the electrode in sensor applications is still not clear. In this report, the influence of MF on the electrolyte's physicochemical properties (polarization, mass transport, charge/electron transfer) and electrode's properties (conductivity, morphology, surface area, interaction, adsorption capability, electrocatalytic ability) was thoroughly investigated. Herein, the working electrode surface was modified with carbon spheres (CSs), magnetic nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 NPs), and their nanocomposites (Fe 3 O 4 @CSs), respectively. Then, they were directly used to enhance the electrochemical characteristics and response-ability of chloramphenicol (CAP). More interestingly, a series of various kinetic parameters related to the diffusion-controlled process of K 3 [Fe(CN) 6 ]/K 4 [Fe(CN) 6 )] and the adsorption-controlled process of CAP were calculated at the bare electrode and the modified electrodes with and without the presence of MF. These parameters not only exhibit the crucial role of the modification of electrode surface with the proposed materials but also show positive impacts of the presence of external MF. Using electrochemically exfoliated graphene oxide (GO)-modified screen-printed carbon electrodes for the detection of furazolidone (FZD), a nitrofuran antibiotic, was explored. In this study, we designed some GO samples possessing different oxygen functional group content/defect density by using ultrasonic irradiation or microwave techniques as supporting tools. The difference in physical characteristics of GO led to the remarkable change in kinetic parameters (electron transfer rate constant ( k s ) and transfer coefficient ( α )) of electron transfer reactions at K 3 / K 4 probes as well as the FZD analyte. Obtained results reveal that the GO-ultrasonic sample showed the highest electrochemical response toward FZD detection owing to the increase in defect density and number of edges in the GO nanosheets under ultrasonic irradiation. The proposed electrochemical nanosensor enabled the monitoring of FZD in the linear range from 1 μM to 100 μM with an electrochemical sensitivity of 1.03 μA μM -1 cm -2 . Background: The plasma-based epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation testing is approved recently to use in clinical practice. However, it has not been used as a prognostic marker yet because of contradictory results., Aim: This meta-analysis aims to clarify the role of the EGFR-plasma test in prognosis for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have mutant tumors and receive EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs)., Methods and Results: The PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar databases were searched for relevant studies by April 10, 2021. The hazard ratio (HR) from reports was extracted and used to assess the correlation of EGFR-plasma status with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). A total of 35 eligible studies with 4106 patients were enrolled in the final analysis. Patients with concurrent EGFR mutations in pretreatment plasma have shorter PFS (HR = 2.00, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.73-2.31, p < .001) and OS time (HR = 2.31, 95% CI: 1.89-2.83, p < .001) compared to the tumor-only mutation cases. Besides, the persistence of EGFR-activating mutations in post-treatment plasma is associated with worse PFS (HR = 3.84, 95% CI: 2.96-4.99, p < .001) and OS outcome (HR = 3.22, 95% CI: 2.35-4.42, p < .001) compared to others. Notably, the prognostic value of the EGFR-plasma test is also validated in treatment with third-generation EGFR TKI and significance regardless of different detection methods., Conclusion: The presence of EGFR-plasma mutations at pretreatment and after EGFR TKI initiation is the worse prognostic factor for PFS and OS in NSCLC., (© 2021 The Authors. This study describes the preparation of berberine (BBR) in nanoformulation to enhance its solubility and increase its antibacterial effectiveness against hospital-acquired infections. BBR nanoparticles (BBR NPs) were formed by antisolvent precipitation (ASP) using glycerol as a safe organic solvent. UV-vis absorption spectra demonstrated that the solubility of BBR NPs was greatly enhanced compared to that of pure BBR. Glycerol played a role as a stabilizer for BBR NPs through the formation of hydrogen bonds between glycerol and BBR NPs. The prepared BBR NPs have a narrow size distribution with an average diameter of 156 nm at a concentration of 2.0 mg/mL, measured by dynamic light scattering. After nanoformulation, the concentration of BBR NPs could reach up to 5.0 mg/mL, which is much higher than the saturation concentration without treatment. Results show a strongly enhanced antibacterial activity of BBR NPs compared with that of pure BBR at the same concentration. The minimum bactericidal concentration of BBR NPs against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli O157:H7 was found to be 2.0 and 5.0 mg/mL, respectively. Transmission electron microscopy showed that BBR NPs surrounded the bacterial cells and severely damaged the cell walls. Safeguarding Earth's tree diversity is a conservation priority due to the importance of trees for biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services such as carbon sequestration. Here, we improve the foundation for effective conservation of global tree diversity by analyzing a recently developed database of tree species covering 46,752 species. We quantify range protection and anthropogenic pressures for each species and develop conservation priorities across taxonomic, phylogenetic, and functional diversity dimensions. We also assess the effectiveness of several influential proposed conservation prioritization frameworks to protect the top 17% and top 50% of tree priority areas. We find that an average of 50.2% of a tree species' range occurs in 110-km grid cells without any protected areas (PAs), with 6,377 small-range tree species fully unprotected, and that 83% of tree species experience nonnegligible human pressure across their range on average. Protecting high-priority areas for the top 17% and 50% priority thresholds would increase the average protected proportion of each tree species' range to 65.5% and 82.6%, respectively, leaving many fewer species (2,151 and 2,010) completely unprotected. The priority areas identified for trees match well to the Global 200 Ecoregions framework, revealing that priority areas for trees would in large part also optimize protection for terrestrial biodiversity overall. Based on range estimates for >46,000 tree species, our findings show that a large proportion of tree species receive limited protection by current PAs and are under substantial human pressure. Improved protection of biodiversity overall would also strongly benefit global tree diversity.

Modern society has been facing serious health-related problems including food safety, diseases and illness. Hence, it is urgent to develop analysis methods for the detection and control of food contaminants, disease biomarkers and pathogens. As the traditional instrumental methods have several disadvantages, including being time consuming, and having high cost and laborious procedures, optical nanosensors have emerged as promising alternative or complementary approaches to those traditional ones. With the advantages of simple preparation, high surface-to-volume ratio, excellent biocompatibility, and especially, unique optical properties, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been demonstrated as excellent transducers for optical sensing systems. Herein, we provide an overview of the synthesis of AuNPs and their excellent optical properties that are ideal for the development of optical nanosensors based on local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), colorimetry, fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET), and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) phenomena. We also review the sensing strategies and their mechanisms, as well as summarizing the recent advances in the monitoring of food contaminants, disease biomarkers and pathogens using developed AuNP-based optical nanosensors in the past seven years (2015-now). Pogostemon Desf . includes a wide range of taxa found in subtropical and tropical areas. Few works, however, have studied microanatomical characteristics of Pogostemon species and as yet identified features of Pogostemon auricularius (L.) Hassk. Thus, in this paper, we examined the taxonomic implications of root, stem and leaf morphology for species P. auricularius collected from Quang Tri Province. Light microscopy was mainly used in our study. Qualitative characters like stem quadrangular, hirsute; leaves opposite, ovate, margin serrulate; calyx campanulate; corolla small with separate equal lobes have been found in P. auricularius. Epidermal anatomy on the aerial parts of the species like epidermal cell shape, anticlinal walls, trichomes types, stomata types and calcium oxalate crystals types were examined as well. Quantitative characters like the length and width of leaf blade and inflorescence; the size of oil droplet, stomata and calcium oxalate crystals measured provided taxonomic significance. Based on identifying morphological characteristics of P. auricularius , we aimed to contribute to the taxonomic investigation into the genus Pogostemon and give relative morphological and microanatomical features compared with other taxa.

The present work reports efficient electrochemical nanosensors for the sensitive monitoring of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) in tomato samples using various biosynthesized silver nanoparticles (bio-AgNPs). Three different bio-AgNP types were synthesized using natural plant extracts, including green tea (GT) leaf, grapefruit peel (GP), and mangosteen peel (MP), aiming to investigate their effects on the formation of bio-AgNPs, as well as the analytical performance of 4-NP. Based on the obtained results, it was found that the phytochemical content in various plant extracts directly influenced the physicochemical parameters of the created bio-AgNPs, such as particle size, crystallinity, and distribution. More importantly, these parameters have decisive effects on the electrocatalytic activity, conductivity, and electrochemical sensing performance of electrodes modified with them for 4-NP detection. Among the three bio-AgNPs evaluated, the GT-AgNPs (using green tea leaf extract) with uniform shape, small size without aggregation, and high crystallinity showed the best analytical performance for 4-NP determination. The electrode-modified GT-AgNPs exhibited a good 4-NP analytical performance with an electrochemical sensitivity of 1.25 μA μM -1 cm -2 and a detection limit of 0.43 μM in the detection range from 0.5 to 50 μM.
