Due to their exceptional optical properties and adjustable functional characteristics, hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) demonstrate significant potential in applications such as sensing, information encryption. However, studies on the synthesis of HOFs designed to construct multifunctional platforms are scant. In this work, we report the synthesis of a new fluorescent HOF by assembling melem and isophthalic acid (IPA), designated as HOF-IPA. HOF-IPA exhibited good selectivity and sensitivity towards Fe 3+ , making it suitable as a fluorescent sensor for Fe 3+ detection. The sensor achieved satisfactory recoveries ranging from 97.79 % to106.42 % for Fe 3+ sensing, with a low relative standard deviation (RSD) of less than 3.33 %, indicating significant application potential for HOF-IPA. Due to the ability of F - to mask the electrostatic action on the surface of Fe 3+ and inhibit the photoelectron transfer (PET) of HOF-IPA, the HOF-IPA - Fe 3+ system can be utilized as a fluorescent "off-on" sensor for F - detection. Piezoelectric effect produces an electrical signal when stress is applied to the bone. When the integrity of the bone is destroyed, the biopotential within the defect site is reduced and several physiological responses are initiated to facilitate healing. During the healing of the bone defect, the bioelectric potential returns to normal levels. Treatment of fractures that exceed innate regenerative capacity or exhibit delayed healing requires surgical intervention for bone reconstruction. For bone defects that cannot heal on their own, exogenous electric fields are used to assist in treatment. This paper reviews the effects of exogenous electrical stimulation on bone healing, including osteogenesis, angiogenesis, reduction in inflammation and effects on the peripheral nervous system. This paper also reviews novel electrical stimulation methods, such as small power supplies and nanogenerators, that have emerged in recent years. Hot air, water, and glycerol were studied as foaming mediums for the production of ETPU to evaluate their influence on the behavior of the foam and compare the optimal particles for each of the foaming temperatures selected. The results showed that the times of water foaming and glycerol foaming were shorter by about 2/3 than with hot-air foaming. The best foaming temperatures for hot-air foaming, glycerol foaming, and water foaming are 110-115 °C, 75 °C, and 90 °C, respectively. The particles of glycerol foam have a matte appearance and their gloss is not very good. However, the particles in hot-air foaming are light, and the gloss is very satisfactory. The gloss of the surface of water-foaming particles is dim. At the same time, there is a faint matte appearance. Particles made with glycerol foaming and water foaming are more even than those made with hot-air foaming. The density of foaming materials from glycerol foaming, hot-air foaming, and water foaming are raised accordingly, while the hardness of foaming materials from glycerol foaming, water foaming, and hot-air foaming are successively increased.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death worldwide. Patients often fail to recognize the early signs of CVDs, which display irregularities in cardiac contractility and may ultimately lead to heart failure. Therefore, continuously monitoring the abnormal changes in cardiac contractility may represent a novel approach to long-term CVD surveillance. Here, a zero-power consumption and implantable bias-free cardiac monitoring capsule (BCMC) is introduced based on the triboelectric effect for cardiac contractility monitoring in situ. The output performance of BCMC is improved over 10 times with nanoparticle self-adsorption method. This device can be implanted into the right ventricle of swine using catheter intervention to detect the change of cardiac contractility and the corresponding CVDs. The physiological signals can be wirelessly transmitted to a mobile terminal for analysis through the acquisition and transmission module. Photonic crystals are a new class of optical microstructure materials characterized by a dielectric constant that varies periodically with space and features a photonic bandgap. Inspired by natural photonic crystals such as butterfly scales, a series of artificial photonic crystals are developed for use in integrated photonic platforms, biosensing, communication, and other fields. Among them, colloidal photonic crystals (CPCs) have gained widespread attention due to their excellent optical properties and advantages, such as ease of preparation and functionalization. This work reviews the classification and self-assembly principles of CPCs, details some of the latest biomedical applications of large-area, high-quality CPCs prepared using advanced self-assembly methods, summarizes the existing challenges in CPC construction and application, and anticipates future development directions and optimization strategy. With further advancements, CPCs are expected to play a more critical role in biosensors, drug delivery, cell research, and other fields, bringing significant benefits to biomedical research and clinical practice., (© 2024 The Author(s). The combination of no-till farming and green manure is key to nourishing the soil and increasing crop yields. However, it remains unclear how to enhance the efficiency of green manure under no-till conditions. We conducted a two-factor field trial of silage maize rotated with hairy vetch to test the effects of tillage methods and returning. Factor 1 is the type of tillage, which is divided into conventional ploughing and no-tillage; factor 2 is the different ways of returning hairy vetch as green manure, which were also compared: no return (NM), stubble return (H), mulching (HM), turnover (HR, for CT only), and live coverage (LM, for NT only). Our findings indicate that different methods of returning hairy vetch to the field will improve maize yield and quality. The best results were obtained in CT and NT in HM and LM, respectively. Specifically, HM resulted in the highest dry matter quality and yield, with improvements of 35.4% and 31.9% over NM under CT, respectively. It also demonstrated the best economic and net energy performance. However, other treatments had no significant effect on the beneficial utilization and return of nutrients. The LM improved yields under NT by boosting soil enzyme activity, promoting nitrogen transformation and accumulation, and increasing nitrogen use efficiency for better kernel development. Overall, NTLM is best at utilizing and distributing soil nutrients and increasing silage maize yield. This finding supports the eco-efficient cultivation approach in silage maize production in the region.

Study Question: Can the density of the inner cell mass (ICM) be a new indicator of the quality of the human blastocyst?, Summary Answer: The densification index (DI) developed in this study can quantify ICM density and provide positive guidance for ploidy, pregnancy, and live birth., What Is Known Already: In evaluating the quality of ICM, reproductive care clinics still use size indicators without further evaluation. The main disadvantage of this current method is that the evaluation of blastocyst ICM is relatively rough and cannot meet the needs of clinical embryologists, especially when multiple blastocysts have the same ICM score, which makes them difficult to evaluate further., Study Design, Size, Duration: This observational study included data from 2272 blastocysts in 1991 frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) cycles between January 2018 to November 2021 and 1105 blastocysts in 430 preimplantation genetic testing cycles between January 2019 and February 2023., Participants/materials, Setting, Methods: FET, ICSI, blastocyst culture, trophectoderm biopsy, time-lapse (TL) monitoring, and next-generation sequencing were performed. After preliminary sample size selection, the 11 focal plane images captured by the TL system were normalized and the spatial frequency was used to construct the DI of the ICM., Main Results and the Role of Chance: This study successfully constructed a quantitative indicator DI that can reflect the degree of ICM density in terms of fusion and texture features. The higher the DI value, the better the density of the blastocyst ICM, and the higher the chances that the blastocyst was euploid (P < 0.001) and that pregnancy (P < 0.001) and live birth (P = 0.005) were reached. In blastocysts with ICM graded B and blastocysts graded 4BB, DI was also positively associated with ploidy, pregnancy, and live birth (P < 0.05). ROC analysis showed that combining the Gardner scoring system with DI can more effectively predict pregnancy and live births, when compared to using the Gardner scoring system alone., Limitations, Reasons for Caution: Accurate calculation of the DI value places high demands on image quality, requiring manual selection of the clearest focal plane and exposure control. Images with the ICM not completely within the field of view cannot be used. The association between the density of ICM and chromosomal mosaicism was not evaluated. The associations between the density of ICM and different assisted reproductive technologies and different culture conditions in embryo laboratories were also not evaluated. Prospective studies are needed to further investigate the impact of ICM density on clinical outcomes., Wider Implications of the Findings: ICM density assessment is a new direction in blastocyst assessment. This study explores new ways of assessing blastocyst ICM density and develops quantitative indicators and a corresponding qualitative evaluation scheme for ICM density. The DI of the blastocyst ICM developed in this study is easy to calculate and requires only TL equipment and image processing, providing positive guidance for clinical outcomes. The qualitative evaluation scheme of ICM density can assist embryologists without TL equipment to manually evaluate ICM density. Background: The occurrence of blastocyst collapse may become an indicator of preimplantation embryo quality assessment. It has been reported that collapsing blastocysts can lead to higher rates of aneuploidy and poorer clinical outcomes, but more large-scale studies are needed to explore this relationship. This study explored the characteristics of blastocyst collapse identified and quantified by artificial intelligence and explored the associations between blastocyst collapse and embryo ploidy, morphological quality, and clinical outcomes., Methods: This observational study included data from 3288 biopsied blastocysts in 1071 time-lapse preimplantation genetic testing cycles performed between January 2019 and February 2023 at a single academic fertility center. All transferred blastocysts are euploid blastocysts. The artificial intelligence recognized blastocyst collapse in time-lapse microscopy videos and then registered the collapsing times, and the start time, the recovery duration, the shrinkage percentage of each collapse. The effects of blastocyst collapse and embryo ploidy, pregnancy, live birth, miscarriage, and embryo quality were studied using available data from 1196 euploid embryos and 1300 aneuploid embryos., Results: 5.6% of blastocysts collapsed at least once only before the full blastocyst formation (tB), 19.4% collapsed at least once only after tB, and 3.1% collapsed both before and after tB. Multiple collapses of blastocysts after tB (times ≥ 2) are associated with higher aneuploid rates (54.6%, P > 0.05; 70.5%, P < 0.001; 72.5%, P = 0.004; and 71.4%, P = 0.049 in blastocysts collapsed 1, 2, 3 or ≥ 4 times), which remained significant after adjustment for confounders (OR = 2.597, 95% CI 1.464-4.607, P = 0.001). Analysis of the aneuploid embryos showed a higher ratio of collapses and multiple collapses after tB in monosomies and embryos with subchromosomal deletion of segmental nature (P < 0.001). Blastocyst collapse was associated with delayed embryonic development and declined blastocyst quality. There is no significant difference in pregnancy and live birth rates between collapsing and non-collapsing blastocysts., Conclusions: Blastocyst collapse is common during blastocyst development. This study underlined that multiple blastocyst collapses after tB may be an independent risk factor for aneuploidy which should be taken into account by clinicians and embryologists when selecting blastocysts for transfer., (© 2024. We report a case of a 72-year-old female who presented with fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea accompanied by leukopenia, anemia, and thrombocytopenia. The diagnosis of acute aplastic anemia was confirmed through bone marrow aspiration. Treatment included glucocorticoids, immunoglobulin therapy, and plasma exchange. Subsequently, the patient developed gastrointestinal bleeding and abdominal Computed Tomography (CT) revealed perforation of the transverse colon. Pathological examination of surgically removed diseased tissue confirmed mucor infection. Despite receiving antifungal therapy with amphotericin B, the patient's condition deteriorated due to the sepsis progression. Smart textiles capable of both energy harvesting and multifunctional sensing are highly desirable for next-generation portable electronics. However, there are still challenges that need to be conquered, such as the innovation of an energy-harvesting model and the optimization of interface bonding between fibers and active materials. Herein, inspired by the spiral structure of natural vines, a highly stretchable triboelectric helical yarn (TEHY) was manufactured by twisting the carbon nanotube/polyurethane nanofiber (CNT/PU NF) Janus membrane. The TEHY had a zebra-stripe-like design that was composed of black interval conductive CNTs and white insulative PU NFs. Due to the different electron affinity, the zebra-patterned TEHY realized a self-frictional triboelectric effect because the numerous microscopic CNT/PU triboelectric interfaces generated an alternating current in the external conductive circuit without extra external friction layers. The helical geometry combined with the elastic PU matrix endowed TEHY with superelastic stretchability and outstanding output stability after 1000 cycles of the stretch-release test. By virtue of the robust mechanical and electrical stability, the TEHY can not only be used as a high-entropy mechanical energy harvester but also serve as a self-powered sensor to monitor the stretching or deforming stimuli and human physiological activities in real time. These merits manifested the versatile applications of TEHY in smart fabrics, wearable power supplies, and human-machine interactions.

Cadmium (Cd) is a leading environmental issue worldwide. The current study was conducted to investigate Cd tolerance of 10 commercial white clover (Trifolium repens) cultivars during seed germination and to further explore differences in lipid remodelling, glycometabolism, and the conversion of lipids into sugars contributing to Cd tolerance in the early phase of seedling establishment as well as the accumulation of Cd in seedlings and mature plants. The results show that Cd stress significantly reduced seed germination of 10 cultivars. Compared to Cd-sensitive Sulky, Cd-tolerant Pixie accelerated amylolysis to produce more glucose, fructose, and sucrose by maintaining higher amylase and sucrase activities under Cd stress. Pixie maintained higher contents of various lipids, higher DGDG/MGDG ratio, and lower unsaturation levels of lipids, which could be beneficial to membrane stability and integrity as well as signal transduction in cells after being subjected to Cd stress. In addition, Pixie upregulated expression levels of key genes (TrACX1, TrACX4, TrSDP6, and TrPCK1) involved in the conversion of lipids into sugars for early seedling establishment under Cd stress. These findings indicate that lipid remodelling, enhanced glycometabolism, and accelerated conversion of lipids into sugars are important adaptive strategies for white clover seed germination and subsequent seedling establishment under Cd stress. In addition, Pixie not only accumulated more Cd in seedlings and mature plants than Sulky but also had significantly better growth and phytoremediation efficiency under Cd stress. Eleven previously undescribed sesquiterpenoids (8-18), one undescribed jasmonic acid derivative (35) and 28 known compounds were isolated from the leaves of Artemisia stolonifera. Undescribed compounds with their absolute configurations were determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and ECD calculation. Compound 8 was identified as a rare sesquiterpenoid featuring a rearranged 5/8 bicyclic ring system, whereas compound 17 was found to be an unprecedented monocyclic sesquiterpenoid with methyl rearrangement. Evaluation of biological activity showed that compounds 1-5 and 7 displayed cytotoxicity against six tumor cells. In the meantime, compounds 11, 12, 18 and 35 exhibited inhibitory effects against LPS-stimulated NO production in RAW 264.7 macrophage cells and reduced the transcription of IL-6 and IL-1β in a dose-dependent manner at 25, 50 and 100 μM. This study aimed to examine the immuntoxic effects of arsenic in the nervous system. Our results showed that arsenic increased corticocerebral and hippocampal weights (p < 0.05). Morris water maze tests revealed that arsenic significantly increased the time spent in latency to platform on the fourth day in 50 mg/L arsenic exposure and the fifth day in 25 and 50 mg/L arsenic exposure, as well as reduced the path length in target quadrant, time spent in target quadrant, and crossing times of the platform (p < 0.05). Hematoxylin-eosin staining showed that the vacuolated degeneration and pyknosis was found in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus of arsenic-treated mice. The mRNA levels of corticocerebral and hippocampal brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were decreased in the 50 mg/L arsenic-treated group (p < 0.05). In addition, immunofluorescence staining showed that 25 and 50 mg/L arsenic all increased the expression of CD11b and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus (p < 0.05). Arsenic markedly raised antigen-presenting molecule MHCII and CD40 mRNA levels in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus and upregulated the cell chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) and CCR7 mRNA levels in the cerebral cortex at the 50 mg/L arsenic group, and increased the CCR7 mRNA levels in the hippocampus at the 25 and 50 mg/L arsenic groups (p < 0.05). Arsenic activated the nucleotide-binding domain-like receptor protein-3 (NLRP3) inflammasome, and enhanced its upstream promoter NF-κB protein level and downstream regulators IL-18 mRNA levels. Orderly hierarchical structure with balanced mechanical, chemical, and electrical properties is the basis of the natural bone microenvironment. Inspired by nature, we developed a piezocatalytically-induced controlled mineralization strategy using piezoelectric polymer poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) fibers with ordered micro-nano structures to prepare biomimetic tissue engineering scaffolds with a bone-like microenvironment (pcm-PLLA), in which PLLA-mediated piezoelectric catalysis promoted the in-situ polymerization of dopamine and subsequently regulated the controllable growth of hydroxyapatite crystals on the fiber surface. PLLA fibers, as analogs of mineralized collagen fibers, were arranged in an oriented manner, and ultimately formed a bone-like interconnected pore structure; in addition, they also provided bone-like piezoelectric properties. The uniformly sized HA nanocrystals formed by controlled mineralization provided a bone-like mechanical strength and chemical environment. The pcm-PLLA scaffold could rapidly recruit endogenous stem cells, and promote their osteogenic differentiation by activating cell membrane calcium channels and PI3K signaling pathways through ultrasound-responsive piezoelectric signals. In addition, the scaffold also provided a suitable microenvironment to promote macrophage M2 polarization and angiogenesis, thereby enhancing bone regeneration in skull defects of rats. Background: Rotor syndrome (RS, OMIM#237450) is an extremely rare autosomal digenic recessive disorder characterized by mild non-hemolytic hereditary conjugated hyperbilirubinemia, caused by biallelic variation of SLCO1B1 and SLCO1B3 genes that resulted in OATP1B1/B3 dysfunction in the sinusoidal membrane leading to impaired bilirubin reuptake ability of hepatocytes., Methods: One RS pedigree was recruited and clinical features were documented. Whole genome second-generation sequencing was used to screen candidate genes and mutations, Sanger sequencing confirmed predicted mutations., Results: This study detected a homozygous nonsense variant c.1738C > T (p.R580*) in the coding region of the SLCO1B1 (NM006446) gene in a family with RS and hepatitis B virus infection by Variants analysis and Sanger sequencing, and confirmed by Copy Number Variation (CNV) analysis and Long Range PCR that there was a homozygous insertion of intron 5 of the SLCO1B3 gene into intron 5 of long-interspersed element 1 (LINE1). A few cases of such haplotypes have been reported in East Asian populations. A hepatitis B virus infection with fatty liver disease was indicated by pathology, which revealed mild-moderate lobular inflammation, moderate lobular inflammation, moderate hepatocellular steatosis, and fibrosis stage 1-2 (NAS score: 4 points/S1-2) alterations. Study Question: Can pregnancy outcomes following fresh elective single embryo transfer (eSET) in gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist protocols increase using a gonadotropin (Gn) step-down approach with cessation of GnRH antagonist on the day of hCG administration (hCG day) in patients with normal ovarian response?, Summary Answer: The modified GnRH antagonist protocol using the Gn step-down approach and cessation of GnRH antagonist on the hCG day is effective in improving live birth rates (LBRs) per fresh eSET cycle., What Is Known Already: Currently, there is no consensus on optimal GnRH antagonist regimens. Studies have shown that fresh GnRH antagonist cycles result in poorer pregnancy outcomes than the long GnRH agonist (GnRHa) protocol. Endometrial receptivity is a key factor that contributes to this phenomenon., Study Design, Size, Duration: An open label randomized controlled trial (RCT) was performed between November 2021 and August 2022. There were 546 patients allocated to either the modified GnRH antagonist or the conventional antagonist protocol at a 1:1 ratio., Participants/materials, Setting, Methods: Both IVF and ICSI cycles were included, and the sperm samples used were either fresh or frozen from the partner, or from frozen donor ejaculates. The primary outcome was the LBRs per fresh SET cycle. Secondary outcomes included rates of implantation, clinical and ongoing pregnancy, miscarriage, and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), as well as clinical outcomes of ovarian stimulation., Main Results and the Role of Chance: Baseline demographic features were not significantly different between the two ovarian stimulation groups. However, in the intention-to-treat (ITT) population, the LBRs in the modified antagonist group were significantly higher than in the conventional group (38.1% [104/273] vs. 27.5% [75/273], relative risk 1.39 [95% CI, 1.09-1.77], P = 0.008). Using a per-protocol (PP) analysis which included all the patients who received an embryo transfer, the LBRs in the modified antagonist group were also significantly higher than in the conventional group (48.6% [103/212] vs. 36.8% [74/201], relative risk 1.32 [95% CI, 1.05-1.66], P = 0.016). The modified antagonist group achieved significantly higher implantation rates, and clinical and ongoing pregnancy rates than the conventional group in both the ITT and PP analyses (P < 0.05). The two groups did not show significant differences between the number of oocytes retrieved or mature oocytes, two-pronuclear zygote (2PN) rates, the number of embryos obtained, blastocyst progression and good-quality embryo rates, early miscarriage rates, or OHSS incidence rates (P > 0.05)., Limitations, Reasons for Caution: A limitation of our study was that the subjects were not blinded to the treatment allocation in the RCT trial. Only women under 40 years of age who had a good prognosis were included in the analysis. Therefore, use of the modified antagonist protocol in older patients with a low ovarian reserve remains to be investigated. Creeping bentgrass ( Agrostis stolonifera ) is an excellent cool-season turfgrass that is widely used in urban gardening, landscaping, and golf turf. Triennial field experiments from 2017 to 2019 were conducted to investigate effects of the foliar application of chitosan (CTS), γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), or sodium chloride (NaCl) on mitigating summer bentgrass decline (SBD) and exploring the CTS, GABA, or NaCl regulatory mechanism of tolerance to summer heat stress associated with changes in chlorophyll (Chl) loss and photosynthetic capacity, osmotic adjustment (OA), oxidative damage, and cell membrane stability. The findings demonstrated that persistent ambient high temperatures above 30 °C during the summer months of 2017, 2018, and 2019 significantly reduced the turf quality (TQ), Chl content, photochemical efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm and PI ABS ), leaf relative water content, and osmotic potential (OP) but significantly increased electrolyte leakage (EL) and the accumulations of free proline, water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC), hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ), and malondialdehyde (MDA). The foliar application of CTS, GABA, or NaCl could significantly alleviate SBD, as reflected by improved TQ and delayed Chl loss during hot summer months. Heat-induced declines in Fv/Fm, PI ABS , the net photosynthetic rate (Pn), the transpiration rate (Tr), and water use efficiency (WUE) could be significantly mitigated by the exogenous application of CTS, GABA, or NaCl. In addition, the foliar application of CTS, GABA, or NaCl also significantly improved the accumulations of free proline and WSC but reduced the EL, OP, and H 2 O 2 content and the MDA content in leaves of creeping bentgrass in favor of water and redox homeostasis in summer. Based on the comprehensive evaluation of the subordinate function value analysis (SFVA), the CTS had the best effect on the mitigation of SBD, followed by GABA and NaCl in 2017, 2018, and 2019. The current study indicates that the foliar application of an appropriate dose of GABA, CTS, or NaCl provides a cost-effective strategy for mitigating SBD.

Spermidine is well known to accumulate in plants exposed to drought, but the regulatory network associated with its biosynthesis and accumulation and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we demonstrated that the Trifolium repens TrMYB33 relayed the ABA signal to modulate drought-induced spermidine production by directly regulating the expression of TrSAMS1 , which encodes an S-adenosylmethionine synthase. This gene was identified by transcriptome and expression analysis in T. repens . TrSAMS1 overexpression and its pTRV-VIGS-mediated silencing demonstrated that TrSAMS1 is a positive regulator of spermidine synthesis and drought tolerance. TrMYB33 was identified as an interacting candidate through yeast one-hybrid library screening with the TrSAMS1 promoter region as the bait. TrMYB33 was confirmed to bind directly to the predicted TAACCACTAACCA (the TAACCA MYB binding site is repeated twice in tandem) within the TrSAMS1 promoter and to act as a transcriptional activator. Additionally, TrMYB33 contributed to drought tolerance by regulating TrSAMS1 expression and modulating spermidine synthesis. Additionally, we found that spermidine accumulation under drought stress depended on ABA and that TrMYB33 coordinated ABA-mediated upregulation of TrSAMS1 and spermidine accumulation. This study elucidated the role of a T. repens MYB33 homolog in modulating spermidine biosynthesis. The further exploitation and functional characterization of the TrMYB33-TrSAMS1 regulatory module can enhance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms responsible for spermidine accumulation during drought stress.

Perovskite monocrystalline films are regarded as desirable candidates for the integration of high-performance optoelectronics due to their unique photophysical properties. However, the heterogeneous integration of a perovskite monocrystalline film with other semiconductors is fundamentally limited by the lattice mismatch, which hinders direct epitaxy. Herein, the van der Waals (vdW) integration strategy for 3D perovskites is developed, where perovskite monocrystalline films are epitaxially grown on the mother substrate, followed by its peeling off and transferring to arbitrary semiconductors, forming monocrystalline heterojunctions. The as-achieved CsPbBr 3 -Nb-doped SrTiO 3 (Nb:STO) vdW p-n heterojunction exhibited comparable performance to their directly epitaxial counterpart, demonstrating the feasibility of vdW integration for 3D perovskites. Furthermore, the vdW integration could be extended to silicon substrates, rendering the CsPbBr 3 -n-Si and CsPbCl 3 -p-Si p-n heterojunction with apparent rectification behaviors and photoresponse. The vdW integration significantly enriches the selections of semiconductors hybridizing with perovskites and provides opportunities for monocrystalline perovskite optoelectronics with complex configurations and multiple functionalities.

Main Conclusion: γ-Aminobutyric acid alleviates acid-aluminum toxicity to roots associated with enhanced antioxidant metabolism as well as accumulation and transportation of citric and malic acids. Aluminum (Al) toxicity has become the main limiting factor for crop growth and development in acidic soils and is further being aggravated worldwide due to continuous industrial pollution. The current study was designed to examine effects of GABA priming on alleviating acid-Al toxicity in terms of root growth, antioxidant defense, citrate and malate metabolisms, and extensive metabolites remodeling in roots under acidic conditions. Thirty-seven-day-old creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera) plants were used as test materials. Roots priming with or without 0.5 mM GABA for 3 days were cultivated in standard nutrient solution for 15 days as control or subjected to nutrient solution containing 5 mM AlCl 3 ·6H 2 O for 15 days as acid-Al stress treatment. Roots were sampled for determinations of root characteristics, physiological and biochemical parameters, and metabolomics. GABA priming significantly alleviated acid-Al-induced root growth inhibition and oxidative damage, despite it promoted the accumulation of Al in roots. Analysis of metabolomics showed that GABA priming significantly increased accumulations of organic acids, amino acids, carbohydrates, and other metabolites in roots under acid-Al stress. In addition, GABA priming also significantly up-regulated key genes related to accumulation and transportation of malic and citric acids in roots under acid-Al stress. GABA-regulated metabolites participated in tricarboxylic acid cycle, GABA shunt, antioxidant defense system, and lipid metabolism, which played positive roles in reactive oxygen species scavenging, energy conversion, osmotic adjustment, and Al ion chelation in roots., (© 2024. Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV), also known as human herpesvirus-8, is the causal agent of Kaposi sarcoma, a cancer that appears as tumors on the skin or mucosal surfaces, as well as primary effusion lymphoma and KSHV-associated multicentric Castleman disease, which are B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders. Effective prophylactic and therapeutic strategies against KSHV infection and its associated diseases are needed. To develop these strategies, it is crucial to identify and target viral glycoproteins involved in KSHV infection of host cells. Multiple KSHV glycoproteins expressed on the viral envelope are thought to play a pivotal role in viral infection, but the infection mechanisms involving these glycoproteins remain largely unknown. We investigated the role of two KSHV envelope glycoproteins, KSHV complement control protein (KCP) and K8.1, in viral infection in various cell types in vitro and in vivo . Using our newly generated anti-KCP antibodies, previously characterized anti-K8.1 antibodies, and recombinant mutant KSHV viruses lacking KCP, K8.1, or both, we demonstrated the presence of KCP and K8.1 on the surface of both virions and KSHV-infected cells. We showed that KSHV lacking KCP and/or K8.1 remained infectious in KSHV-susceptible cell lines, including epithelial, endothelial, and fibroblast, when compared to wild-type recombinant KSHV. We also provide the first evidence that KSHV lacking K8.1 or both KCP and K8.1 can infect human B cells in vivo in a humanized mouse model. The observation area of a point target, which is usually inaccessible, is a necessary condition when utilizing the conventional single-band infrared radiometric thermometry method, as the image gray level inevitably undergoes dispersion. Otherwise, significant errors will be generated, seriously affecting the applicability of infrared radiometric thermometry for distant point targets in the external field. To address the above issue, the infrared radiometric thermometry method for point targets has been researched. A point target radiometric thermometry method based on dual-band infrared imaging is proposed, which can effectively measure radiance and temperature when the area of the point target is unknown. The experimental results show that, compared with conventional single-band algorithms, the proposed dual-band point target thermometry algorithm has a maximum error of 11.18°C under the condition of unknown area, which can meet the needs of infrared radiometric thermometry of point targets at long distances in the external field.

Nowadays, dye water pollution is becoming increasingly severe. Composite of MXene, ZnS, and chitosan-cellulose material (MX/ZnS/CC) was developed to remove anionic dyes through the synergistic effect of adsorption and photocatalytic degradation. MXene was introduced as the cocatalyst to form Schottky heterostructure with ZnS for improving the separation efficiency of photocarriers and photocatalytic performance. Chitosan-cellulose material mainly served as the dye adsorbent, while also could improve material stability and assist in generation of free radicals for dye degradation. The physics and chemistry properties of MX/ZnS/CC composite were systematically inspected through various characterizations. MX/ZnS/CC composite exhibited good adsorption ability to anionic dyes with adsorption capacity up to 1.29 g/g, and excellent synergistic effects of adsorption and photodegradation with synergistic removal capacity up to 5.63 g/g. MX/ZnS/CC composite performed higher synergistic removal ability and better optical and electrical properties than pure MXene, ZnS, chitosan-cellulose material, and MXene/ZnS. After compounding, the synergistic removal percentage of dyes increased by a maximum of 309 %. Background: Growth retardation is a common complication of chronic kidney disease in children, which can be partially relieved after renal transplantation. This study aimed to develop and validate a predictive model for growth patterns of children with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) after kidney transplantation using machine learning algorithms based on genomic and clinical variables., Methods: A retrospective cohort of 110 children who received kidney transplants between May 2013 and September 2021 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University were recruited for whole-exome sequencing (WES), and another 39 children who underwent transplant from October 2021 to March 2022 were enrolled for external validation. Based on previous studies, we comprehensively collected 729 height-related single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in exon regions. Seven machine learning algorithms and 10-fold cross-validation analysis were employed for model construction., Results: The 110 children were divided into two groups according to change in height-for-age Z -score. After univariate analysis, age and 19 SNPs were incorporated into the model and validated. The random forest model showed the best prediction efficacy with an accuracy of 0.8125 and an area under curve (AUC) of 0.924, and also performed well in the external validation cohort (accuracy, 0.7949; AUC, 0.796)., Conclusions: A model with good performance for predicting post-transplant growth patterns in children based on SNPs and clinical variables was constructed and validated using machine learning algorithms. The Schottky contact which is a crucial interface between semiconductors and metals is becoming increasingly significant in nano-semiconductor devices. A Schottky barrier, also known as the energy barrier, controls the depletion width and carrier transport across the metal-semiconductor interface. Controlling or adjusting Schottky barrier height (SBH) has always been a vital issue in the successful operation of any semiconductor device. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the static and dynamic adjustment methods of SBH, with a particular focus on the recent advancements in nano-semiconductor devices. These methods encompass the work function of the metals, interface gap states, surface modification, image-lowering effect, external electric field, light illumination, and piezotronic effect. We also discuss strategies to overcome the Fermi-level pinning effect caused by interface gap states, including van der Waals contact and 1D edge metal contact. To improve the recognition effect of the folk dance image recognition model and put forward new suggestions for teachers' teaching strategies, this study introduces a Deep Neural Network (DNN) to optimize the folk dance training image recognition model. Moreover, a corresponding teaching strategy optimization scheme is proposed according to the experimental results. Firstly, the image preprocessing and feature extraction of DNN are optimized. Secondly, classification and target detection models are established to analyze the folk dance training images, and the C-dance dataset is used for experiments. Finally, the results are compared with those of the Naive Bayes classifier, K-nearest neighbor, decision tree classifier, support vector machine, and logistic regression models. The results of this study provide new suggestions for teaching strategies. The research results indicate that the optimized classification model shows a significant improvement in classification accuracy across various aspects such as action complexity, dance types, movement speed, dance styles, body dynamics, and rhythm. The accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 scores have increased by approximately 14.7, 11.8, 13.2, and 17.4%, respectively. In the study of factors such as different training images, changes in perspective, lighting conditions, and noise interference, the optimized model demonstrates a substantial enhancement in recognition accuracy and robustness. These findings suggest that, compared to traditional models, the optimized model performs better in identifying various dances and movements, enhancing the accuracy and stability of classification. Based on the experimental results, strategies for optimizing the real-time feedback and assessment mechanism in folk dance teaching, as well as the design of personalized learning paths, are proposed. Introduction: Hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HSCC) is one of the malignant tumors with the worst prognosis in head and neck cancers. The transformation from normal tissue through low-grade and high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia to cancerous tissue in HSCC is typically viewed as a progressive pathological sequence typical of tumorigenesis. Nonetheless, the alterations in diverse cell clusters within the tissue microenvironment (TME) throughout tumorigenesis and their impact on the development of HSCC are yet to be fully understood., Methods: We employed single-cell RNA sequencing and TCR/BCR sequencing to sequence 60,854 cells from nine tissue samples representing different stages during the progression of HSCC. This allowed us to construct dynamic transcriptomic maps of cells in diverse TME across various disease stages, and experimentally validated the key molecules within it., Results: We delineated the heterogeneity among tumor cells, immune cells (including T cells, B cells, and myeloid cells), and stromal cells (such as fibroblasts and endothelial cells) during the tumorigenesis of HSCC. We uncovered the alterations in function and state of distinct cell clusters at different stages of tumor development and identified specific clusters closely associated with the tumorigenesis of HSCC. Although it is generally acknowledged that transition metals at high oxidation states represent superior oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity, the preparation and stability of such a high-valence state are still a challenge, which requires relatively harsh reaction conditions and is unstable under ambient conditions. Herein, we report the formation of trivalent nickel (Ni 3+ ) in laser-fabricated nickel oxides induced by polyaniline (PANI) under electrochemical activation via a significant charge transfer between Ni and N, as confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations. Thereafter, the presence of Ni 3+ and the improved conductivity by PANI effectively increase the electrochemical OER activity of the samples together with excellent long-term stability. This work provides new insights for the rational manufacture of high-valence metal for electrochemical reactions.

Background: Fibrosis and inflammation due to ureteropelvic junction obstruction substantially contributes to poor renal function. Urine-derived stem-cell-derived exosomes (USC-Exos) have therapeutic effects through paracrine. Methods: In vitro, the effects of USC-Exos on the biological functions of HK-2 and human umbilical vein endothelial cells were tested. Cell inflammation and fibrosis were induced by transforming growth factor-β1 and interleukin-1β, and their anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic effects were observed after exogenous addition of USC-Exos. Through high-throughput sequencing of microRNA in USC-Exos, the pathways and key microRNAs were selected. Then, the antifibrotic and anti-inflammatory effects of exosomal miR-122-5p and target genes were verified. The role of the miR-122-5p/SOX2 axis in anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic effects was verified. In vivo, a rabbit model of partial unilateral ureteral obstruction (PUUO) was established. Magnetic resonance imaging recorded the volume of the renal pelvis after modeling, and renal tissue was pathologically analyzed. Results: We examined the role of USC-Exos and their miR-122-5p content in obstructive kidney injury. These Exos exhibit antifibrotic and anti-inflammatory activities. SOX2 is the hub gene in PUUO and negatively related to renal function. We confirmed the binding relationship between miR-122-5p and SOX2. The anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic effects of miR-122-5p were inhibited, indicating that miR-122-5p has anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic effects by inhibiting SOX2 expression. In vivo, the PUUO group showed typical obstructive kidney injury after modeling. After USC-Exo treatment, the shape of the renal pelvis shown a remarkable improvement, and inflammation and fibrosis decreased. Background: Cutaneous melanoma (CM) of the skin stands as the leading cause of mortality among skin cancer-related deaths. Despite the successes achieved with novel therapies such as immunotherapy and targeted therapy, their efficacy remains limited, necessitating further exploration of new treatment modalities. The gut microbiota and CM may be linked, as indicated by a growing body of preclinical and observational research. Nevertheless, the exact correlation between the intestinal microbiota and CM remains to be determined. Therefore, this study aims to assess the potential causal relationship between the gut microbiota and CM., Methods: The study utilized exposure data obtained from the MiBioGen consortium's microbiome GWAS, which included a total of 18,340 samples gathered from 24 population-based cohorts. Data at the summary level for CM were acquired from the UK Biobank investigation. The main analytical strategy utilized in this research was the inverse variance weighted (IVW) technique, supported by quality assurance measures like the weighted median model, MR-Egger, simple model, and weighted model approaches. The Cochran's Q test was used to evaluate heterogeneity. To ascertain potential pleiotropy, we employed both the MR-Egger regression and the MR-PRESSO test. Sensitivity analysis was conducted using the leave-one-out method., Results: The study found that the class Bacteroidia (OR = 0.997, 95% CI: 0.995-0.999, p = 0.027), genus Parabacteroides (OR = 0.997, 95% CI: 0.994-0.999, p = 0.037), order Bacteroidales (OR = 0.997, 95% CI: 0.995-0.999, p = 0.027), and genus Veillonella (OR = 0.998, 95% CI: 0.996-0.999, p = 0.046) have protective effects on CM. On the order hand, the genus Blautia (OR = 1.003, 95% CI: 1-1.006, p = 0.001) and phylum Cyanobacteria (OR = 1.002, 95% CI: 1-1.004, p = 0.04) are identified as risk factors for CM., Conclusion: We comprehensively assessed the potential causal relationship between the gut microbiota and CM and identified associations between six gut microbiota and CM. Among these, four gut microbiota were identified as protective factors for CM, while two gut microbiota were identified as risk factors for CM. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is widely used in clinical practice to treat diseases related to central nervous system (CNS) damage. However, the blood-brain barrier (BBB) constitutes a significant impediment to the effective delivery of TCM, thus substantially diminishing its efficacy. Advances in nanotechnology and its applications in TCM (also known as nano-TCM) can deliver active ingredients or components of TCM across the BBB to the targeted brain region. This review provides an overview of the physiological and pathological mechanisms of the BBB and systematically classifies the common TCM used to treat CNS diseases and types of nanocarriers that effectively deliver TCM to the brain. Additionally, drug delivery strategies for nano-TCMs that utilize in vivo physiological properties or in vitro devices to bypass or cross the BBB are discussed. This review further focuses on the application of nano-TCMs in the treatment of various CNS diseases. Context.—: Breast cancer with low (1%-10%) estrogen receptor (ER) expression (ER-low positive) constitutes a small portion of invasive breast cancers, and the treatment strategy for these tumors remains debatable., Objective.—: To characterize the features and outcomes of ER-low positive patients, and clarify the clinical significance of FOXC1 and SOX10 expression in ER-low positive/HER2-negative tumors., Design.—: Among 9082 patients diagnosed with primary invasive breast cancer, the clinicopathologic features of those with ER-low positive breast cancer were characterized. FOXC1 and SOX10 mRNA levels were analyzed in ER-low positive/HER2-negative cases from public data sets. The expression of FOXC1 and SOX10 in ER-low positive/HER2-negative tumors was evaluated by immunohistochemistry., Results.—: The clinicopathologic study of ER-low positive tumors indicated more aggressive characteristics compared with those tumors with ER >10%, while they had more overlapping features with ER-negative tumors irrespective of the HER2 status. The intrinsic molecular subtype of ER-low positive cases with high FOXC1 and SOX10 mRNA expression was more likely to be nonluminal. Among the ER-low positive/HER2-negative tumors, 56.67% (51 of 90) and 36.67% (33 of 90) were positive for FOXC1 and SOX10, respectively, which was significantly positively correlated with CK5/6 expression. In addition, the survival analysis demonstrated no significant difference between patients who received and who did not receive endocrine therapy., Conclusions.—: ER-low positive breast cancers biologically overlap more with ER-negative tumors. ER-low positive/HER2-negative cases demonstrate a high rate of FOXC1 or SOX10 expression, and these cases might be better categorized as a basal-like phenotype/subtype. COPD poses a significant global public health challenge, primarily characterised by irreversible airflow restriction and persistent respiratory symptoms. The hallmark pathology of COPD includes sustained airway inflammation and the eventual destruction of lung tissue structure. While multiple risk factors are implicated in the disease's progression, the underlying mechanisms remain largely elusive. The perpetuation of inflammation is pivotal to the advancement of COPD, emphasising the importance of investigating these self-sustaining mechanisms for a deeper understanding of the pathogenesis. Autoimmune responses constitute a critical mechanism in maintaining inflammation, with burgeoning evidence pointing to their central role in COPD progression; yet, the intricacies of these mechanisms remain inadequately defined. This review elaborates on the evidence supporting the presence of autoimmune processes in COPD and examines the potential mechanisms through which autoimmune responses may drive the chronic inflammation characteristic of the disease. Continuous pulse wave detection can be used for monitoring and diagnosing cardiovascular diseases, and research on pulse sensing based on piezoelectric thin films is one of the hot spots. Usually, piezoelectric thin films do not come into direct contact with the skin and need to be connected through a layer of an elastic medium. Most views think that the main function of this layer of elastic medium is to increase the adhesion between the sensor component and the skin, but there is little discussion about the impact of the elastic medium on pulse vibration transmission. Here, we conducted a detailed study on the effects of Young's modulus and the thickness of elastic media on pulse sensing signals. The results show that the waveform amplitude of the piezoelectric sensing signal decreases with the increase of Young's modulus and thickness of the elastic medium. Then, we constructed a theoretical model of the influence of elastic media on pulse wave propagation. The amplitude of the pulse wave signal detected by the optimized sensor was increased to 480%. Our research shows that by regulating Young's modulus and thickness of elastic media, pulse wave signals can undergo a similar amplification effect, which has an important theoretical reference value for achieving ambulatory blood pressure monitoring based on high-quality pulse waves.

Dichondra (Dichondra repens) is an important ground cover plant for landscaping and establishment of green space, but adaptive mechanism of drought tolerance is not well understood in this species. This study was conducted to compare differential response to drought stress among three genotypes (Dr5, Duliujiang, and Dr29) based on integrated physiological, ultrastructural, and metabolic assays. Results showed that drought significantly inhibited photosynthesis, accelerated lipids peroxidation, and also disrupted water balance and cellular metabolism in dichondra plants. Dr5 showed better photochemical efficiency of photosystem II and water homeostasis, less oxidative damage, and more stable chlorophyll metabolism than Duliujinag or Dr29 in response to drought stress. In addition, Dr5 accumulated more amino acids, organic acids, and other metabolites, which was good for maintaining better antioxidant capacity, osmotic homeostasis, and energy metabolism under drought stress. Drought tolerance of Duliujiang was lower than Dr5, but better than Dr29, which could be positively correlated with accumulations of sucrose, maltitol, aconitic acid, isocitric acid, and shikimic acid due to critical roles of these metabolites in osmotic adjustment and metabolic homeostasis. Current findings provide insights into understanding of underlying mechanism of metabolic regulation in dichondra species. Potato early blight (PEB), a foliar disease of potato during the growing period, caused by Alternaria sp., is common in major potato-producing areas worldwide. Effective agents to control this disease or completely resistant potato varieties are absent. Large-scale use of fungicides is limited due to possibility of increase in pathogen resistance and the requirements of ecological agriculture. In this study, we focused on the composition and infection characteristics of early blight pathogens in Yunnan Province and screened candidate pathogenesis-related pathways and genes. We isolated 85 strains of Alternaria sp. fungi from typical early blight spots in three potato-growing regions in Yunnan Province from 2018 to 2022, and identified 35 strains of Alternaria solani and 50 strains of Alternaria alternata by morphological characterization and ITS sequence comparison, which were identified as the main and conditional pathogens causing early blight in potato, respectively. Scanning electron microscope analysis confirmed only A. solani producing appressorium at 4 h after inoculation successfully infected the leaf cells. Via genome assembly and annotation, combine transcriptome and proteomic analysis, the following pathogenicity-related unit, transcription factors and metabolic pathway were identified: (1) cell wall-degrading enzymes, such as pectinase, keratinase, and cellulase; (2) genes and pathways related to conidia germination and pathogenicity, such as ubiquitination and peroxisomes; and (3) transcription factors, such as Zn-clus , C2H2 , bZIP , and bHLH . To maintain the physiological dynamics of the mitral annulus, mitral annuloplasty rings (MAR) must be flexible. Enhanced flexibility implies decreased resistance to fatigue and potential for fatigue fracture. This study established new methods to test the flexible fatigue life of MAR in-vitro using numerical analysis; the purpose is that the fatigue test could reflect the real stress distribution in-vivo. Based on the conventional test methods (C1, D1), this paper presents a novel test method (C2, D2). Four testing methods for open-end annuloplasty rings (C1, C2) and closed-end annuloplasty rings (D1, D2) were modelled and their stress distribution calculated by finite element analysis. The mean absolute error (Χ) and the Pearson correlation coefficient (Φ) were used to quantify the difference in stress distribution between the loading modes in-vivo and in-vitro. For closed-end annuloplasty rings, the novel test method (D2) is not obvious better than conventional test methods(D1) in duplicating the stress distribution (Φ D1  = 0.88 vs Φ D2  = 0.92). However, the maximum values of stress in the novel test method are closer to the maximum value of stress under in-vivo loading (Χ D1  = 5.2Mpa vs Χ D2  = 4.4Mpa). For open-end annuloplasty rings, the novel test method(C2) is obviously superior to the conventional test method(C1) in duplicating both the stress distribution and the stress peak values of the in-vivo loading (Φ C1  = 0.22 vs Φ C2  = 0.98; Χ C1  = 59.1Mpa vs Χ C2  = 11.0Mpa). The in-vitro loading methods described in this article more closely approximated in-vivo conditions compared to traditional methods. Lead halide hybrid perovskites have made great progress in direct X-ray detection and broadband photodetection, but the existence of toxic Pb and the demand for external operating voltage have severely limited their further applications and operational stability improvements. Therefore, exploring "green" lead-free hybrid perovskite that can both achieve X-ray detection and broadband photodetection without external voltage is of great importance, but remains severely challenging. Herein, using centrosymmetric (BZA) 3 BiI 6 (1, BZA = benzylamine) as a template, a pair of chiral-polar lead-free perovskites, (BZA) 2 (R/S-PPA)BiI 6 (2-R/S, R/S-PPA = (R/S)-1-Phenylpropylamine) are successfully obtained by introducing chiral aryl cations of (R/S)-1-Phenylpropylamine. Compared to 1, chiral-polar 2-R presents a significant irradiation-responsive bulk photovoltaic effect (BPVE) with an open circuit photovoltage of 0.4 V, which enables it with self-powered X-ray, UV-vis-NIR broadband photodetection. Specifically, 2-R device exhibits an ultralow detection limit of 18.5 nGy s -1 and excellent operational stability. Furthermore, 2-R as the first lead-free perovskite achieves significant broad-spectrum (377-940 nm) photodetection via light-induced pyroelectric effect. Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) is a common clinical challenge, requiring timely and orderly initiation of synergistic anti-inflammatory and reparative therapy. Although the existing cascade drug delivery system can realize sequential drug release through regulation of the chemical structure of drug carriers, it is difficult to adjust the release kinetics of each drug based on the patient's condition. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop a cascade drug delivery system that can dynamically adjust drug release and realize personalized treatment. Herein, we developed a responsive cascade drug delivery scaffold (RCDDS) which can adapt to the therapeutic time window, in which Vitamin B12 is used in early controllable release to suppress inflammation and nerve growth factor promotes regeneration by cascade loading. The RCDDS exhibited the ability to modulate the drug release kinetics by hierarchically opening polymer chains triggered by ultrasound, enabling real-time adjustment of the anti-inflammatory and neuroregenerative therapeutic time window depending on the patient's status. In the rat sciatic nerve injury model, the RCDDS group was able to achieve neural repair effects comparable to the autograft group in terms of tissue structure and motor function recovery. The development of the RCDDS provides a useful route toward an intelligent cascade drug delivery system for personalized therapy.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) can collect and convert random mechanical energy into electric energy, with remarkable advantages including broadly available materials, straightforward preparation, and multiple applications. Over the years, researchers have made substantial advancements in the theoretical and practical aspects of TENG. Nevertheless, the pivotal challenge in realizing full applications of TENG lies in ensuring that the generated output meets the specific application requirements. Consequently, substantial research is dedicated to exploring methods and mechanisms for enhancing the output performance of TENG devices. This review aims to comprehensively examine the influencing factors and corresponding improvement strategies of the output performance based on the contact electrification mechanism and operational principles that underlie TENG technology. This review primarily delves into five key areas of improvement: materials selection, surface modification, component adjustments, structural optimization, and electrode enhancements. White clover is widely cultivated as a leguminous forage or ground cover plant worldwide. However, soil salinization decreases its yield and quality. Aims of the present experiment were to elucidate the impact of seed pretreatment with spermidine (Spd) or spermine (Spm) on amylolysis, Na + /K + accumulation, and metabolic homeostasis during germination. Seed was soaked in distilled water (control), Spd or Spm solution and then germinated under optimal or salt stress conditions for 7 days. Results showed that germination vigor, germination percentage, or seed vigour index of seeds pretreatment with Spd increased by 7%, 11%, or 70% when compared with water-pretreated seeds under salt stress, respectively. Germination percentage or seed vigour index of seeds pretreatment with Spm increased by 17% or 78% than water-pretreated seeds under saline condition, respectively. In response to salt stress, accelerated amylolysis via activation of β-amylase activity was induced by Spd or Spm pretreatment. Spd or Spm pretreatment also significantly enhanced accumulation of diverse amino acids, organic acids, sugars, and other metabolites (putrescine, myo-inositol, sorbitol, daidzein etc.) associated with enhanced osmotic adjustment, antioxidant capacity, and energy supply during germination under salt stress. In addition, Spd or Spm pretreatment not only significantly reduced salt-induced K + loss and overaccumulation of Na + , but also improved the ratio of K + to Na + , contributing to Na + and K + balance in seedlings. In response to salt stress, seeds pretreatment with Spd or Spm up-regulated transcription level of NHX2 related to enhancement in compartmentation of Na + from cytoplasm to vacuole, thus reducing Na + toxicity in cytoplasm. Busulfan is an antineoplastic, which is always accompanied with the abnormal of spermatogonia self-renewal and differentiation. It has been demonstrated that the omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) benefits mature spermatozoa. However, whether omega-3 can protect endogenous spermatogonia and the detailed mechanisms are still unclear. Evaluate of spermatogenesis function (in vivo) were examined by histopathological analysis, immunofluorescence staining, and western blotting. The levels of lipid metabolites in testicular tissue were determined via liquid chromatography. We investigated the effect of lipid metabolites on Sertoli cells provided paracrine factors to regulate spermatogonia proliferation and differentiation using co-culture system. In our study, we showed that omega-3 PUFAs significantly improved the process of sperm production and elevated the quantity of both undifferentiated Lin28+ spermatogonia and differentiated c-kit+ spermatogonia in a mouse model where spermatogenic function was disrupted by busulfan. Mass spectrometry revealed an increase in the levels of several omega-3 metabolites in the testes of mice fed with omega-3 PUFAs. The eicosapentaenoic acid metabolite 12-hydroxyeicosapentaenoic acid (12-HEPE) up-regulated bone morphogenic protein 4 (BMP4) expression through GPR120-ERK1/2 pathway activation in Sertoli cells and restored spermatogonia proliferation and differentiation. Our study provides evidence that omega-3 PUFAs metabolite 12-HEPE effectively protects spermatogonia and reveals that GPR120 might be a tractable pharmacological target for fertility in men received chemotherapy or severe spermatogenesis dysfunction., (© 2023 The Authors. Bacteriorhodopsin is a biological material with excellent photosensitivity properties. It can directly convert optical signals into electrical signals and is widely used in various biosensors. Here, we present a bR-based wearable pH biometer that can be used to monitor wound infection. The mechanism of the pH-sensitive effect of the bR electrode is explained, which generates a transient photovoltage under light irradiation and a negative photovoltage when the lamp is turned off. Since the photoelectric signal of bR is affected by different pH values, the photovoltage is changed by adjusting the pH value. The ratio ( V n / V p ) of negative photovoltage ( V n ) to positive photovoltage ( V p ) has a good linear relationship ( R 2 = 0.9911) in the pH range of 4.0-10.0. In vitro experiments using rats as a model confirmed that this wearable pH biometer can monitor pH changes that occur in wound infection.

Ionically conductive fibers have promising applications; however, complex processing techniques and poor stability limit their practicality. To overcome these challenges, we proposed a stress-induced adaptive phase transition strategy to conveniently fabricate self-encapsulated hydrogel-based ionically conductive fibers (se-HICFs). se-HICFs can be produced simply by directly stretching ionic hydrogels with ultra-stretchable networks (us-IHs) or by dip-drawing from molten us-IHs. During this process, stress facilitated the directional migration and evaporation of water molecules in us-IHs, causing a phase transition in the surface layer of ionic fibers to achieve self-encapsulation. The resulting sheath-core structure of se-HICFs enhanced mechanical strength and stability while endowing se-HICFs with powerful non-contact electrostatic induction capabilities. Mimicking nature, se-HICFs were woven into spider web structures and camouflaged in wild environments to achieve high spatiotemporal resolution 3D depth-of-field sensing for different moving media. Harvesting biomechanical energy from cardiac motion is an attractive power source for implantable bioelectronic devices. Here, we report a battery-free, transcatheter, self-powered intracardiac pacemaker based on the coupled effect of triboelectrification and electrostatic induction for the treatment of arrhythmia in large animal models. We show that the capsule-shaped device (1.75 g, 1.52 cc) can be integrated with a delivery catheter for implanting in the right ventricle of a swine through the intravenous route, which effectively converts cardiac motion energy to electricity and maintains endocardial pacing function during the three-week follow-up period. We measure in vivo open circuit voltage and short circuit current of the self-powered intracardiac pacemaker of about 6.0 V and 0.2 μA, respectively. This approach exhibits up-to-date progress in self-powered medical devices and it may overcome the inherent energy shortcomings of implantable pacemakers and other bioelectronic devices for therapy and sensing., (© 2024. Introduction: Guilingji, a famous traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, has been used to combat aging and male sexual dysfunction in China for centuries. To date, there has been little evidence-based clinical research on the use of Guilingji to treat idiopathic oligo-asthenoteratozoospermia (OAT), and the therapeutic mechanism from a metabolic perspective needs to be investigated further., Methods: This was a multicenter, double-blind, randomized controlled clinical study of 240 patients with idiopathic OAT recruited from four hospitals between January 2020 and January 2022. Patients were randomly assigned in a 1꞉1 ratio to receive oral Guilingji capsules or placebo for 12 weeks. The total progressive motile sperm count (TPMSC) was considered the primary outcome, and the other sperm parameters, seminal plasma parameters and serum hormones were considered the secondary outcome. A nontargeted metabolomics analysis of serum from OAT patients before and after Guilingji administration was performed by HPLC-MS to identify key metabolites. Furthermore, we used a rat model to show spermatogenesis phenotypes to validate the effect of the key metabolites screened from the patients., Results: At weeks 4, 8 and 12, TPMSC and other sperm parameters were significantly improved in the Guilingji group compared with the placebo group ( P  < 0.05 for all comparisons). At week 4, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and acrosomal enzyme activity of seminal plasma were significantly elevated in the Guilingji group compared with the placebo group, while reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were significantly reduced ( P  < 0.05). Lactate dehydrogenase-X (LDHX) levels appeared to be significantly increased after 12 weeks continuous medication compared with Placebo group ( P  = 0.032). The metabolomics analysis of serum from OAT patients before and after Guilingji administration showed that the glucose-6-phosphate (G6P) concentration in patients' serum was significantly elevated after Guilingji treatment. Compared to the control, when Kidney-Yang deficiency model rats were treated with Guilingji or its key intermediate metabolite G6P, their sperm concentration and spermatozoic activity were improved similarly, and their structural damage of rat's testicular and epididymal tissues were recovered., Conclusion: This study provided valuable clinical evidence for the utility of Guilingji as a treatment for OAT. Electrical stimulation can effectively accelerate bone healing. However, the substantial size and weight of electrical stimulation devices result in reduced patient benefits and compliance. It remains a challenge to establish a flexible and lightweight implantable microelectronic stimulator for bone regeneration. Here, we use self-powered technology to develop an electric pulse stimulator without circuits and batteries, which removes the problems of weight, volume, and necessary rigid packaging. The fully implantable bone defect electrical stimulation (BD-ES) system combines a hybrid tribo/piezoelectric nanogenerator to provide biphasic electric pulses in response to rehabilitation exercise with a conductive bioactive hydrogel. BD-ES can enhance multiple osteogenesis-related biological processes, including calcium ion import and osteogenic differentiation. In a rat model of critical-sized femoral defects, the bone defect was reversed by electrical stimulation therapy with BD-ES and subsequent bone mineralization, and the femur completely healed within 6 weeks. This work is expected to advance the development of symbiotic electrical stimulation therapy devices without batteries and circuits.

A chitosan-alginate sponge (CAS) with multiple cross-linking networks was developed using chitosan, sodium alginate, polyvinyl alcohol, and glutaraldehyde to adsorb and enrich the anionic dyes form the food samples. The multiple networks in CAS refer to the electrostatic cross-linking network, hydrogen bonding cross-linking network, and covalent cross-linking network. Compared with pure chitosan and alginate sponges, the CAS showed better three-dimensional network structure, mechanical behavior, and stability, which is benefit by multiple cross-linking networks. The physical and chemical properties of CAS were systematically studied by a series of characterizations. The adsorption performance of CAS on anionic dyes was inspected with different dye concentration, time, temperature, and pH conditions. CAS exhibited a good and stable adsorption property to amaranth, carmine, and sunset yellow with the saturation adsorption capacity of 94.34, 111.5, and 80.05 mg∙g -1 , respectively. Furthermore, CAS performed outstanding selectivity to anionic dyes with the selectivity factor up to 16.99. Through electrostatic potential analysis, it is inferred that CAS mainly adsorbs anionic dyes through electrostatic interactions. CAS showed satisfactory reusability, maintaining 97 %-99 % of adsorption performance after six cycles of recycling.
