Individuals' continuous success in competitive interactions with conspecifics strongly affects their social hierarchy. Medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is the key brain region mediating both social competition and hierarchy. However, the molecular regulatory mechanisms underlying the neural ensemble in the mPFC remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate that in excitatory neurons of prelimbic cortex (PL), lncRNA Sera remodels the utilization of Pkm Exon9 and Exon10, resulting in a decrease in the Pkm1/2 ratio in highly competitive mice. By employing a tet-on/off system, we disrupt or rebuild the normal Pkm1/2 ratio by controlling the expression of Pkm2 in PL excitatory neurons. We find that long-term Pkm2 modulation induces timely competition alteration and hysteretic rank change, through phosphorylating the Ser845 site of GluA1. Together, this study uncovers a crucial role of lncRNA Sera/Pkm2 pathway in the transition of social competition to rank by remodeling neural ensemble in mPFC., (© 2024. The Author(s).)

Lactate, a byproduct of glycolysis, was considered as a metabolic waste until identified by studies on the Warburg effect. Increasing evidence elucidates that lactate functions as energy fuel, signaling molecule, and donor for protein lactylation. Altered lactate utilization is a common metabolic feature of the onset and progression of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease. This review offers an overview of lactate metabolism from the perspective of production, transportation and clearance, and the role of lactate in neurodegenerative progression, as well as a summary of protein lactylation and the signaling function of lactate in neurodegenerative diseases. Besides, this review delves into the dual roles of changed lactate metabolism during neurodegeneration and explores prospective therapeutic methods targeting lactate. IgA nephropathy (IgAN), which has been confirmed as a complement mediated autoimmune disease, is also one form of glomerulonephritis associated with COVID-19. Here, we aim to investigate the clinical and immunological characteristics of patients with IgAN after COVID-19. The level of plasma level of C5a (p < 0.001), soluble C5b-9 (p = 0.018), FHR5 (p < 0.001) were all significantly higher in Group CoV (33 patients with renal biopsy-proven IgAN experienced COVID-19) compared with Group non-CoV (44 patients with IgAN without COVID-19), respectively. Compared with Group non-CoV, the intensity of glomerular C4d (p = 0.017) and MAC deposition (p < 0.001) and Gd-IgA1 deposition (p = 0.005) were much stronger in Group CoV. Our finding revealed that for IgAN after COVID-19, mucosal immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection may result in the overactivation of systemic and renal local complement system, and increased glomerular deposition of Gd-IgA1, which may lead to renal dysfunction and promote renal progression in IgAN patients., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest All the authors declared no competing interests., (Copyright © 2024 The Authors. Macroautophagy/autophagy is a complex degradation process with a dual role in cell death that is influenced by the cell types that are involved and the stressors they are exposed to. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent oxidative form of cell death characterized by unrestricted lipid peroxidation in the context of heterogeneous and plastic mechanisms. Recent studies have shed light on the involvement of specific types of autophagy (e.g. ferritinophagy, lipophagy, and clockophagy) in initiating or executing ferroptotic cell death through the selective degradation of anti-injury proteins or organelles. Conversely, other forms of selective autophagy (e.g. reticulophagy and lysophagy) enhance the cellular defense against ferroptotic damage. Dysregulated autophagy-dependent ferroptosis has implications for a diverse range of pathological conditions. This review aims to present an updated definition of autophagy-dependent ferroptosis, discuss influential substrates and receptors, outline experimental methods, and propose guidelines for interpreting the results. Sleep is a highly intricate biological phenomenon, and its disorders play a pivotal role in numerous diseases. However, the specific regulatory mechanisms remain elusive. In recent years, the role of mitochondria in sleep disorders has gained considerable attention. Sleep deprivation not only impairs mitochondrial morphology but also decreases the number of mitochondria and triggers mitochondrial dysfunction. Furthermore, mitochondrial dysfunction has been implicated in the onset and progression of various sleep disorder-related neurological diseases, especially neurodegenerative conditions. Therefore, a greater understanding of the impact of sleep disorders on mitochondrial dysfunction may reveal new therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases. In this review, we comprehensively summarize the recent key findings on the mechanisms underlying mitochondrial dysfunction caused by sleep disorders and their role in initiating or exacerbating common neurodegenerative diseases. To improve the utilization of byproduct gases in the steel plant, the coke oven gas (COG) methanation combined with blast furnace gas (BFG) and basic oxygen furnace gas (BOFG) was proposed in viewpoint of economy and environment. The optimization mathematics model based on Gibbs free energy minimization was established to predict the thermodynamic feasibility of the proposed methanation. To solve the proposed model, the convenient method was implemented by using the Gibbs module in Aspen Plus software. Effects of operation parameters on the methanation performance were revealed to identify the optimized conditions. To reduce the solid carbon concentration, it was found that the optimized conditions of temperature, pressure and stoichiometric number were 650 °C, 30 bar and 3.0, respectively. Moreover, it was discovered that 10 mol% of BFG or BOFG could be mixed into COG to obtain the maximum methane yield. In addition, it was testified that there were the good agreements between calculated results and industrial and published data, which indicated that the proposed methanation was thermodynamically feasible. Therefore, the simple and easy method was developed to evaluate the methanation operating conditions from the aspect of thermodynamic equilibrium, which provided the basic process conditions of byproduct gases methanation to enhance the steel plant efficiency and reduce carbon emissions., (© 2024. Sporadic or late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) accounts for more than 95% of Alzheimer's disease (AD) cases without any family history. Although genome-wide association studies have identified associated risk genes and loci for LOAD, numerous studies suggest that many adverse environmental factors, such as social isolation, are associated with an increased risk of dementia. However, the underlying mechanisms of social isolation in AD progression remain elusive. In the current study, we found that 7 days of social isolation could trigger pattern separation impairments and presynaptic abnormalities of the mossy fibre-CA3 circuit in AD mice. We also revealed that social isolation disrupted histone acetylation and resulted in the downregulation of 2 dentate gyrus (DG)-enriched miRNAs, which simultaneously target reticulon 3 (RTN3), an endoplasmic reticulum protein that aggregates in presynaptic regions to disturb the formation of functional mossy fibre boutons (MFBs) by recruiting multiple mitochondrial and vesicle-related proteins. Interestingly, the aggregation of RTN3 also recruits the PP2A B subunits to suppress PP2A activity and induce tau hyperphosphorylation, which, in turn, further elevates RTN3 and forms a vicious cycle. Finally, using an artificial intelligence-assisted molecular docking approach, we determined that senktide, a selective agonist of neurokinin3 receptors (NK3R), could reduce the binding of RTN3 with its partners. Moreover, application of senktide in vivo effectively restored DG circuit disorders in socially isolated AD mice. Hard carbon has been widely used in anode of lithium/sodium ion battery, electrode of supercapacitor, and carbon molecular sieve for CO 2 capture and hydrogen storage. In this study the lignin derived hard carbon products are investigated, and the conclusions are abstracted as follows. (1) The lignin derived hard carbon products consist of microcrystal units of sp 2 graphene fragments, jointed by sp 3 carbon atoms and forming sp 2 -sp 3 hybrid hard carbon family. (2) From the lignin precursors to the sp 2 -sp 3 hybrid hard carbon products, most carbon atoms retain their original electron configurations (sp 2 or sp 3 ) and keep their composition in lignin. (3) The architectures of lignin-derived hard carbon materials are closely dependent on the forms of their lignin precursors, and could be preformed by different pretreatment techniques. (4) The carbonization of lignin precursors follows the mechanism "carbonization in situ and recombination nearby". (5) Due to the high carbon ratio and abundant active functional groups in lignin, new activation techniques could be developed for control of pore size and pore volume. In general lignin is an excellent raw material for sp 2 -sp 3 hybrid hard carbon products, a green and sustainable alternative resource for phenolic resin, and industrial production for lignin derived hard carbon products would be feasible., (© 2024. Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent neurodegenerative disease among old adults. As a traditional Chinese medicine, the herbal decoction Tian-Si-Yin consists of Morinda officinalis How. and Cuscuta chinensis Lam., which has been widely used to nourish kidney. Interestingly, Tian-Si-Yin has also been used to treat dementia, depression and other neurological conditions. However, its therapeutic potential for neurodegenerative diseases such as AD and the underlying mechanisms remain unclear., Aim of the Study: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of the herbal formula Tian-Si-Yin against AD and to explore the underlying mechanisms., Materials and Methods: The N2a cells treated with amyloid β (Aβ) peptide or overexpressing amyloid precursor protein (APP) were used to establish cellular models of AD. The in vivo anti-AD effects were evaluated by using Caenorhabditis elegans and 3 × Tg-AD mouse models. Tian-Si-Yin was orally administered to the mice for 8 weeks at a dose of 10, 15 or 20 mg/kg/day, respectively. Its protective role on memory deficits of mice was examined using the Morris water maze and fear conditioning tests. Network pharmacology, proteomic analysis and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) were used to explore the underlying molecular mechanisms, which were further investigated by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry., Results: Tian-Si-Yin was shown to improve cell viability of Aβ-treated N2a cells and APP-expressing N2a-APP cells. Tian-Si-Yin was also found to reduce ROS level and extend lifespan of transgenic AD-like C. elegans model. Oral administration of Tian-Si-Yin at medium dose was able to effectively rescue memory impairment in 3 × Tg mice. Tian-Si-Yin was further shown to suppress neuroinflammation by inhibition of glia cell activation and downregulation of inflammatory cytokines, diminishing tau phosphoralytion and Aβ deposition in the mice. Using UHPLC-MS/MS and network pharmacology technologies, 17 phytochemicals from 68 components of Tian-Si-Yin were identified as potential anti-AD components. Astrocytes constitute a major part of the central nervous system and the delineation of their activity patterns is conducive to a better understanding of brain network dynamics. This study aimed to develop a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based method in order to monitor the brain-wide or region-specific astrocytes in live animals. Adeno-associated virus (AAVs) vectors carrying the human glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) promoter driving the EGFP-AQP1 (Aquaporin-1, an MRI reporter) fusion gene were employed. The following steps were included: constructing recombinant AAV vectors for astrocyte-specific expression, detecting MRI reporters in cell culture, brain regions, or whole brain following cell transduction, stereotactic injection, or tail vein injection. The astrocytes were detected by both fluorescent imaging and Diffusion-weighted MRI. The novel AAV mutation (Site-directed mutagenesis of surface-exposed tyrosine (Y) residues on the AAV5 capsid) significantly increased fluorescence intensity (p < 0.01) compared with the AAV5 wild type. Transduction of the rAAV2/5 carrying AQP1 induced the titer-dependent changes in MRI contrast in cell cultures (p < 0.05) and caudate-putamen (CPu) in the brain (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the MRI revealed a good brain-wide alignment between AQP1 levels and ADC signals, which increased over time in most of the transduced brain regions. In addition, the rAAV2/PHP.eB serotype efficiently introduced AOP1 expression in the whole brain via tail vein injection. This study provides an MRI-based approach to detect dynamic changes in astrocytes in live animals. The utilization of the dispersive Fourier transformation approach has enabled comprehensive observation of the birth process of dissipative solitons in fiber lasers. However, there is still a dearth of deep understanding regarding the extinction process of dissipative solitons. In this study, we have utilized a combination of experimental and numerical techniques to thoroughly examine the breathing dynamics of dissipative solitons during the extinction process in an Er-doped mode-locked fiber laser. The results demonstrate that the transient breathing dynamics have a substantial impact on the extinction stage of both steady-state and breathing-state dissipative solitons. The duration of transient breathing exhibits a high degree of sensitivity to variations in pump power. Numerical simulations are utilized to produce analogous breathing dynamics within the framework of a model that integrates equations characterizing the population inversion in a mode-locked laser. These results corroborate the role of Q-switching instability in the onset of breathing oscillations. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent form of dementia and is characterized by progressive degeneration of brain function. AD gradually affects the parts of the brain that control thoughts, language, behavior and mental function, severely impacting a person's ability to carry out daily activities and ultimately leading to death. The accumulation of extracellular amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) and the aggregation of intracellular hyperphosphorylated tau are the two key pathological hallmarks of AD. AD is a complex condition that involves both non-genetic risk factors (35%) and genetic risk factors (58-79%). The glymphatic system plays an essential role in clearing metabolic waste, transporting tissue fluid, and participating in the immune response. Both non-genetic and genetic risk factors affect the glymphatic system to varying degrees. The main purpose of this review is to summarize the underlying mechanisms involved in the deregulation of the glymphatic system during the progression of AD, especially concerning the diverse contributions of non-genetic and genetic risk factors. In the future, new targets and interventions that modulate these interrelated mechanisms will be beneficial for the prevention and treatment of AD.

The mechanisms behind a lack of efficient fear extinction in some individuals are unclear. Here, by employing a principal components analysis-based approach, we differentiated the mice into extinction-resistant and susceptible groups. We determined that elevated synapsin 2a (Syn2a) in the infralimbic cortex (IL) to basolateral amygdala (BLA) circuit disrupted presynaptic orchestration, leading to an excitatory/inhibitory imbalance in the BLA region and causing extinction resistance. Overexpression or silencing of Syn2a levels in IL neurons replicated or alleviated behavioral, electrophysiological, and biochemical phenotypes in resistant mice. We further identified that the proline-rich domain H in the C-terminus of Syn2a was indispensable for the interaction with synaptogyrin-3 (Syngr3) and demonstrated that disrupting this interaction restored extinction impairments. Molecular docking revealed that ritonavir, an FDA-approved HIV drug, could disrupt Syn2a-Syngr3 binding and rescue fear extinction behavior in Syn2a-elevated mice. In summary, the aberrant elevation of Syn2a expression and its interaction with Syngr3 at the presynaptic site were crucial in fear extinction resistance, suggesting a potential therapeutic avenue for related disorders.

A high-sensitivity curvature sensor with dual-parameter measurement ability based on angularly cascaded long-period fiber grating (AC-LPFG) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated, which consists of two titled LPFGs (TLPFGs) with different tilt angles and the same grating period. AC-LPFG was fabricated by using a deep ultraviolet laser and an amplitude-mask in our laboratory. The experimental results show that simultaneous measurement of curvature and temperature can be achieved by monitoring the wavelengths of two resonant peaks for different TLPFGs. The two peaks show opposite shifts with increasing curvature and has a maximum curvature sensitivity of 16.392 nm/m -1 . With the advantages of low cost, high sensitivity, and dual-parameter measurements, our sensor has more potential for engineering applications.

Microcrystal cellulose (MCC) is a green and sustainable resource that widely exists in various lignocellulose species in percentage 10% to 30%. The fine powder of MCC is often discarded in industrial productions that use lignocellulose as feedstock. The crystal structure of two types of MCC (sugarcane pith and bamboo pith) and their derived carbon materials are studied, and the key findings are summarized as follows. (1) In the MCC refined from sugarcane pith, there are large amount of cellulose 2D crystal, which can be converted to valuable 2D graphene crystal. (2) In the MCC refined from bamboo pith there are large amount of cluster microcrystal cellulose, which can be converted to soft and elastic graphene microcrystal (GMC). (3) The 2D cellulose in MCC of sugarcane pith has large surface area and is easily to be degraded to sugars by acid-base hydrolysis reaction, which can be carbonized to Fullerenes-like carbon spheres. (4) The crystal structures of MCC derived carbon materials are strongly impacted by the crystal structures of MCC, and the carbonization reaction of MCC follows "in situ carbonization" and "nearby recombination" mechanism. Cancer stem cells (CSCs), a rare subset of tumor cells, have been recognized as promotive role on tumor initiation and propagation. Among, aerobic glycolysis, widely clarified in multiple tumor cells, is the key for maintaining cancer stemness. Regrettably, it is largely unknown about the connection of cellular metabolic reprogramming and stemness in gastric carcinoma (GC). Two GC parental cells lines PAMC-82 and SNU-16 and their spheroids were obtained to determine the expression status of POU1F1 using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and western blotting analysis, respectively. Gain or loss-of-function assay was employed to assess its biological effects. Sphere formation and transwell assays were performed to evaluate the stem cell-like traits, including self-renewal capacity, migration and invasion. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and luciferase reporter assays were conducted for determining the binding relationship of POU1F1 on ENO1 promoter region. Herein, aberrantly upregulated POU1F1 was observed in spheroids, compared with the parental PAMC-82 and SNU-16 cells, which promoted stem cell-like traits, as representing increasing sphere formation, enhanced cell migration and invasion. Additionally, POU1F1 expression was positively with glycolytic signaling, as displaying increasing glucose consumption, lactic acid production, and extracellular acid ratio (ECAR). Furthermore, POU1F1 was identified to be a transcriptional activator of ENO1, of which overexpression remarkably abolished POU1F1 knockdown-mediated blocking effects. Taken together, we draw a conclusion that POU1F1 facilitated the stem cell-like properties of GC cells through transcriptionally augmenting ENO1 to enhance glycolysis., (© 2023 The Authors. With an increase in global aging, the number of people affected by cerebrovascular diseases is also increasing, and the incidence of vascular dementia-closely related to cerebrovascular risk-is increasing at an epidemic rate. However, few therapeutic options exist that can markedly improve the cognitive impairment and prognosis of vascular dementia patients. Similarly in Alzheimer's disease and other neurological disorders, synaptic dysfunction is recognized as the main reason for cognitive decline. Nitric oxide is one of the ubiquitous gaseous cellular messengers involved in multiple physiological and pathological processes of the central nervous system. Recently, nitric oxide has been implicated in regulating synaptic plasticity and plays an important role in the pathogenesis of vascular dementia. This review introduces in detail the emerging role of nitric oxide in physiological and pathological states of vascular dementia and summarizes the diverse effects of nitric oxide on different aspects of synaptic dysfunction, neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and blood-brain barrier dysfunction that underlie the progress of vascular dementia. Astrocytes, an integral component of the central nervous system (CNS), contribute to the maintenance of physiological homeostasis through their roles in synaptic function, K + buffering, blood-brain barrier (BBB) maintenance, and neuronal metabolism. Reactive astrocytes refer to astrocytes undergoing morphological, molecular and functional remodelling in response to pathological stimuli. The activation and differentiation of astrocytes are implicated in the pathogenesis of multiple neurodegenerative diseases. However, there are still controversies regarding their subset identification, function and nomenclature in neurodegeneration. In this review, we revisit the multidimensional roles of reactive astrocytes in Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), Huntington's disease (HD), multiple sclerosis (MS) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Neuronal death is one of the most common pathological hallmarks of diverse neurological diseases, which manifest varying degrees of cognitive or motor dysfunction. Neuronal death can be classified into multiple forms with complicated and unique regulatory signaling pathways. Tau is a key microtubule-associated protein that is predominantly expressed in neurons to stabilize microtubules under physiological conditions. In contrast, pathological tau always detaches from microtubules and is implicated in a series of neurological disorders that are characterized by irreversible neuronal death, such as necrosis, apoptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis, ferroptosis, autophagy-dependent neuronal death and phagocytosis by microglia. However, recent studies have also revealed that pathological tau can facilitate neuron escape from acute apoptosis, delay necroptosis through its action on granulovacuolar degeneration bodies (GVBs), and facilitate iron export from neurons to block ferroptosis. In this review, we briefly describe the current understanding of how pathological tau exerts dual effects on neuronal death by acting as a double-edged sword in different neurological diseases. The three-dimensional (3D) structure of chromosomes is of great significance to ensure that the genome performs various functions (e.g., gene expression) correctly and replicates and separates correctly in mitosis. Since the emergence of Hi-C in 2009, a new experimental technique in molecular biology, researchers have been paying more and more attention to the reconstruction of chromosome 3D structure. To reconstruct the 3D structure of chromosomes based on Hi-C experimental data, many algorithms have been proposed, among which ShRec3D is one of the most outstanding. In this article, an iterative ShRec3D algorithm is presented to greatly improve the native ShRec3D algorithm. Experimental results show that our algorithm can significantly promote the performance of ShRec3D, and this improvement is applicable to almost all data noise range and signal coverage range, so it is universal.

The neuron-glia cross-talk is critical to brain homeostasis and is particularly affected by neurodegenerative diseases. How neurons manipulate the neuron-astrocyte interaction under pathological conditions, such as hyperphosphorylated tau, a pathological hallmark in Alzheimer's disease (AD), remains elusive. In this study, we identified excessively elevated neuronal expression of adenosine receptor 1 (Adora1 or A1R) in 3×Tg mice, MAPT P301L (rTg4510) mice, patients with AD, and patient-derived neurons. The up-regulation of A1R was found to be tau pathology dependent and posttranscriptionally regulated by Mef2c via miR-133a-3p. Rebuilding the miR-133a-3p/A1R signal effectively rescued synaptic and memory impairments in AD mice. Furthermore, neuronal A1R promoted the release of lipocalin 2 (Lcn2) and resulted in astrocyte activation. Last, silencing neuronal Lcn2 in AD mice ameliorated astrocyte activation and restored synaptic plasticity and learning/memory. Our findings reveal that the tau pathology remodels neuron-glial cross-talk and promotes neurodegenerative progression. Approaches targeting A1R and modulating this signaling pathway might be a potential therapeutic strategy for AD.

Bladder urothelial carcinoma (BLCA) is a common malignant tumor of the human urinary system, and a large proportion of BLCA patients have a poor prognosis. Therefore, there is an urgent need to find more efficient and sensitive biomarkers for the prognosis of BLCA patients in clinical practice. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data and clinical information were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas, and 584 energy metabolism-related genes (EMRGs) were obtained from the Reactome pathway database. Cox regression analysis and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator analysis were applied to assess prognostic genes and build a risk score model. The estimate and cibersort algorithms were used to explore the immune microenvironment, immune infiltration, and checkpoints in BLCA patients. Furthermore, we used the Human Protein Atlas database and our single-cell RNA-seq datasets of BLCA patients to verify the expression of 13 EMRGs at the protein and single-cell levels. We constructed a risk score model; the area under the curve of the model at 5 years was 0.792. The risk score was significantly correlated with the immune markers M0 macrophages, M2 macrophages, CD8 T cells, follicular helper T cells, regulatory T cells, and dendritic activating cells. Furthermore, eight immune checkpoint genes were significantly upregulated in the high-risk group. The risk score model can accurately predict the prognosis of BLCA patients and has clinical application value. The increasing number of vehicles is one main cause of atmospheric environment pollution problems. Timely and accurate long- and short-term (LST) prediction of the on-road vehicle exhaust emission could contribute to atmospheric pollution prevention, public health protection, and government decision-making for environmental management. Vehicle exhaust emission has strong non-stationary and nonlinear characteristics due to the inherent randomness and imbalance nature of meteorological factors and traffic flow. Therefore accurate LST vehicle exhaust emission prediction encounters many challenges, such as the LST temporal dependencies and complicated nonlinear correlation on various emission gases, including carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbon (HC), and nitric oxide (NO), and external influence factors. To resolve these challenging issues, we propose a novel hybrid deep learning framework, namely Dual Attention-based Fusion Network (DAFNet), to effectively predict LST multivariate vehicle exhaust emission with the temporal convolutional network, convolutional neural network, long short term memory (LSTM)-skip based on recurrent neural network, dual attention mechanism, and autoregressive decomposition model. The proposed DAFNet consists of three major parts: 1) a nonlinear component to effectively capture the dynamic LST temporal dependency of multivariate gas by the temporal convolutional network, convolutional neural network, and LSTM-skip. Moreover, the above two networks employ an attention mechanism to model the internal relevance of the LST temporal patterns and multivariate gas, respectively. 2) a linear component to tackle the scale-insensitive problem of the neural network model by an autoregressive decomposition model. 3) the external components are taken to compensate the impact of external factors on vehicle exhaust emission by the multilayer perceptron model. Finally, the proposed DAFNet is evaluated on two real-world vehicle emission datasets in Zibo and Hefei, China. Purpose: To identify consistently expressed lncRNAs and suitable lncRNAs with high sensitivity and specificity from multiple independent studies as potential biomarkers for PCa diagnostics., Methods: We searched multiple electronic databases including PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CNKI, CQVIP, Wanfang, and CBMdisc for studies published up to July 2022. The quality of the included studies was assessed by two independent reviewers based on the QUADAS-2 tool using Review Manager 5.3. A vote-counting method was used based on the ranking of potential molecular biomarkers. The top-ranked lncRNAs were further assessed for diagnostic value using Meta-disc version 1.4 software., Results: Among the 26 included studies, 2 circulating lncRNAs (PCA3 and MALAT-1) were reported 3 or more times in PCa patients versus non-PCa patients. In further analysis, the areas under the curve of the summary receiver operating characteristic curves for PCA3 and MALAT-1 distinguishing PCa patients were 0.775 and 0.771, respectively., Conclusions: Based on the current evidence, PCA3 and MALAT-1 are reliable lncRNAs for the diagnosis of PCa.

Emissions from mobile sources and stationary sources contribute to atmospheric pollution in China, and its components, which include ultrafine particles (UFPs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and other reactive gases, such as NH 3 and NO x , are the most harmful to human health. China has released various regulations and standards to address pollution from mobile and stationary sources. Thus, it is urgent to develop online monitoring technology for atmospheric pollution source emissions. This study provides an overview of the main progress in mobile and stationary source monitoring technology in China and describes the comprehensive application of some typical instruments in vital areas in recent years. These instruments have been applied to monitor emissions from motor vehicles, ships, airports, the chemical industry, and electric power generation. Not only has the level of atmospheric environment monitoring technology and equipment been improving, but relevant regulations and standards have also been constantly updated. Meanwhile, the developed instruments can provide scientific assistance for the successful implementation of regulations. According to the potential problem areas in atmospheric pollution in China, some research hotspots and future trends of atmospheric online monitoring technology are summarized. Cholinergic neurons in the medial septum (MS) constitute a major source of cholinergic input to the forebrain and modulate diverse functions, including sensory processing, memory, and attention. Most studies to date have treated cholinergic neurons as a single population; as such, the organizational principles underling their functional diversity remain unknown. Here, we identified two subsets (D28K + versus D28K - ) of cholinergic neurons that are topographically segregated in mice, Macaca fascicularis, and humans. These cholinergic subpopulations possess unique electrophysiological signatures, express mutually exclusive marker genes (kcnh1 and aifm3 versus cacna1h and gga3), and make differential connections with physiologically distinct neuronal classes in the hippocampus to form two structurally defined and functionally distinct circuits. Gain- and loss-of-function studies on these circuits revealed their differential roles in modulation of anxiety-like behavior and spatial memory. Methamphetamine abuse is escalating worldwide. Its strong and irreversible neurotoxicity generally causes structural and functional changes in the brain. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) as a non-invasive tool can be used to modulate neuronal activity, cortical excitability, and dopaminergic neurotransmission. This study aims to explore the efficacy of high-frequency rTMS in reducing drug craving and increasing decision-making ability for methamphetamine use disorder patients. Sixty-four methamphetamine use disorder patients were randomized to sham rTMS group and 10-Hz rTMS group. Visual analog scale (VAS) and Iowa game test (IGT) were used to evaluate drug craving and cognitive decision-making ability before and after treatment. Before the treatment, the two groups had no differences in the scores of VAS and IGT. After the intervention, VAS scores of 10-Hz rTMS group were significantly lower than that of sham rTMS group. In addition, the two groups had significant differences in the net score of IGT on block 4 and block 5, which favoured the 10-Hz rTMS group. This study was to probe the role of penehyclidine hydrochloride (PHC) mediating the impact of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88)/nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) signalling pathway on myocardial ischaemia-reperfusion injury (MI/RI) in rats through miR-199a-3p. The rat MI/RI model was established through ligating left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery. PHC was injected preoperatively into the model rats, and injected with miR-199a-3p lentiviral vector or TLR4 antagonist (TAK-242). Next, cardiac function of rats was examined by echocardiography, and rat serum indicators, oxidative stress levels and inflammatory factors were detected. HE staining was applied to detect pathological tissue structure, TUNEL staining to detect apoptosis rate, qRCR and western blot to detect miR-199a-3p and TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB expressions in rat myocardial tissues. Dual luciferase reporter experiment was conducted to confirm the relationship between miR-199a-3p and TLR4. In conclusion, PHC suppresses TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signalling pathway through miR-199a-3p, thereby improving MI/RI in rats.

This paper aims to stabilize an uncertain scalar switched linear system whose feedback information is transmitted over a digital communication network. The system has a scalar state. That network can only supply a finite data rate to represent the state and suffers from time-varying bounded network delay. Due to the unknown mode switch time and the unknown network delay, mode mismatch between the plant and the controller is unavoidable. By applying reachable set approximation and propagation approaches, this paper quantitatively investigates the effects of mode mismatch and model uncertainty on the system's stability and designs communication and control strategies to guarantee the desired stability. Moreover, it proposes some novel event-triggered sampling strategies, under which the required stabilizing bit rate can be lower than that required by traditional periodic sampling strategies. Aging is characterized with a progressive decline in many cognitive functions, including behavioral flexibility, an important ability to respond appropriately to changing environmental contingencies. However, the underlying mechanisms of impaired behavioral flexibility in aging are not clear. In this study, we reported that necroptosis-induced reduction of neuronal activity in the basolateral amygdala (BLA) plays an important role in behavioral inflexibility in 5-month-old mice of the senescence-accelerated mice prone-8 (SAMP8) line, a well-established model with age-related phenotypes. Application of Nec-1s, a specific inhibitor of necroptosis, reversed the impairment of behavioral flexibility in SAMP8 mice. We further observed that the loss of glycogen synthase kinase 3α (GSK-3α) was strongly correlated with necroptosis in the BLA of aged mice and the amygdala of aged cynomolgus monkeys (Macaca fascicularis). Moreover, genetic deletion or knockdown of GSK-3α led to the activation of necroptosis and impaired behavioral flexibility in wild-type mice, while the restoration of GSK-3α expression in the BLA arrested necroptosis and behavioral inflexibility in aged mice. We further observed that GSK-3α loss resulted in the activation of mTORC1 signaling to promote RIPK3-dependent necroptosis. Importantly, we discovered that social isolation, a prevalent phenomenon in aged people, facilitated necroptosis and behavioral inflexibility in 4-month-old SAMP8 mice. Shortwave infrared (SWIR) spectral imaging obtains spectral fingerprints corresponding to overtones of molecular vibrations invisible to conventional silicon-based imagers. However, SWIR imaging is challenged by the excessive cost of detectors. Single-pixel imaging based on compressive sensing can alleviate the problem but meanwhile presents new difficulties in spectral modulations, which are prerequisite in compressive sampling. In this work, we theoretically propose a SWIR single-pixel spectral imaging system with spectral modulations based on a Ge 2 Sb 2 Se 4 Te 1 (GSST) phase-change metasurface. The transmittance spectra of the phase-change metasurface are tuned through wavelength shifts of multipole resonances by varying crystallinities of GSST, validated by the multipole decompositions and electromagnetic field distributions. The spectral modulations constituted by the transmittance spectra corresponding to the 11 phases of GSST are sufficient for the compressive sampling on the spectral domain of SWIR hyperspectral images, indicated by the reconstruction in false color and point spectra. Moreover, the feasibility of optimization on phase-change metasurface via coherence minimization is demonstrated through the designing of the GSST pillar height. The concept of spectral modulation with phase-change metasurface overcomes the static limitation in conventional modulators, whose integratable and reconfigurable features may pave the way for high-efficient, low-cost, and miniaturized computational imaging based on nanophotonics.

Dysregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) is involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). Hitherto, sample sizes from differential miRNA expression studies in AD are exceedingly small aggravating any biological inference. To overcome this limitation, we investigated six candidate miRNAs in a large collection of brain samples. Brain tissue was derived from superior temporal gyrus (STG) and entorhinal cortex (EC) from 99 AD patients and 91 controls. MiRNA expression was examined by qPCR (STG) or small RNA sequencing (EC). Brain region-dependent differential miRNA expression was investigated in a transgenic AD mouse model using qPCR and FISH. Total RNA sequencing was used to assess differential expression of miRNA target genes. MiR-129-5p, miR-132-5p, and miR-138-5p were significantly downregulated in AD vs. controls both in STG and EC, while miR-125b-5p and miR-501-3p showed no evidence for differential expression in this dataset. In addition, miR-195-5p was significantly upregulated in EC but not STG in AD patients. The brain region-specific pattern of miR-195-5p expression was corroborated in vivo in transgenic AD mice. Total RNA sequencing identified several novel and functionally interesting target genes of these miRNAs involved in synaptic transmission (GABRB1), the immune-system response (HCFC2) or AD-associated differential methylation (SLC16A3). Using two different methods (qPCR and small RNA-seq) in two separate brain regions in 190 individuals we more than doubled the available sample size for most miRNAs tested. The raphe nucleus is critical for feeding, rewarding and memory. However, how the heterogenous raphe neurons are molecularly and structurally organized to engage their divergent functions remains unknown. Here, we genetically target a subset of neurons expressing VGLUT3. VGLUT3 neurons control the efficacy of spatial memory retrieval by synapsing directly with parvalbumin-expressing GABA interneurons (PGIs) in the dentate gyrus. In a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease (AD mice), VGLUT3→PGIs synaptic transmission is impaired by ETV4 inhibition of VGLUT3 transcription. ETV4 binds to a promoter region of VGLUT3 and activates VGLUT3 transcription in VGLUT3 neurons. Strengthening VGLUT3→PGIs synaptic transmission by ETV4 activation of VGLUT3 transcription upscales the efficacy of spatial memory retrieval in AD mice. This study reports a novel circuit and molecular mechanism underlying the efficacy of spatial memory retrieval via ETV4 inhibition of VGLUT3 transcription and hence provides a promising target for therapeutic intervention of the disease progression., (© 2022. This article aims to stabilize an n -dimensional linear time-invariant (LTI) system, whose feedback packets are transmitted through a digital communication network. The digital network suffers from network delay and independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) feedback dropouts, which may destabilize the system. The coupling among multiple state variables may further harm the stability of the system. In order to deal with these issues and save the occupied bandwidth of the feedback network, we propose a periodic event-triggering strategy. In our strategy, the state is measured periodically, but only quantized and transmitted when a certain condition is triggered. By well balancing the state coupling and making full use of both the information inside transmitted feedback packets and the one carried by sampling time instants, our strategy can maintain the desired mean square stability at a lower bit rate than conventional periodic sampling policies. The obtained stabilizing bit rate conditions are determined by the processing and network delays, the dropout rate, and the unstable eigenvalues of the system matrix, but independent of the process noise. Moreover, the lack of the direct state access does not incur any additional stabilizing bit rate. Simulations are done to confirm the effectiveness of the obtained stabilizing bit rate conditions.

Changes in soil moisture and soil temperature result from the combined effects of several environmental factors. Scientific determination of the response characteristics of soil moisture and soil temperature to environmental factors is critical for adjusting the sloping land use structure and improving the ecological environment in China's loess hilly region. Soybean sloping fields, maize terraced fields, jujube orchards, and grasslands in the loess hilly region were selected as the research areas. The change in characteristics of soil moisture and soil temperature, as well as their interactions and statistical relationships with meteorological factors, were analyzed using continuously measured soil moisture, soil temperature, and meteorological factors. The results revealed that air temperature and humidity were the main controlling factors affecting soil moisture changes in the 0-60 cm soil layer of soybean sloping fields and grasslands in the normal precipitation year (2014) and the dry year (2015). Humidity and wind speed were the main meteorological factors affecting soil moisture changes in the maize terraced field. Air temperature had a significant negative effect on soil moisture in the jujube orchard. Soil moisture and soil temperature were all negatively correlated under the four sloping land use types. In normal precipitation years, atmospheric humidity had the greatest direct and comprehensive effect on soil moisture in soybean sloping fields, maize terraced fields, and grasslands; soil temperature had a relatively large impact on soil moisture in jujube orchards. The direct and comprehensive effects of soil temperature on soil moisture under all sloping land use types were the largest and most negative in the dry year. Air temperature had a high correlation with soil temperature in the 0-60 cm soil layer under the four sloping land use types, and the grey relational grade decreased as the soil layer deepened. The coefficient of determination between the 0-20 cm soil temperature and air temperature in the maize terraced field was low, indicating a weak response to air temperature. Employees' emotions have an important effect on their job performance, thus leaders can influence subordinates' emotions through emotional contagion and emotional appeal and ultimately affect their job performance. Based on the affective events theory, this study examines the impact of emotional leadership on the subordinates' job performance, the mediating role of subordinates' positive emotions, and the moderating role of susceptibility to positive emotion. Hierarchical regression analysis of 362 valid questionnaires showed that: (1) emotional leadership has a significant positive effect on subordinates' job performance; (2) subordinates' positive emotion partially mediated the relationship between emotional leadership and subordinates' job performance; (3) subordinates' susceptibility to positive emotion positively moderated the relationship between emotional leadership and positive emotions, i.e., the higher the subordinates' susceptibility to positive emotion, the greater the effect of emotional leadership on their positive emotions. A novel hollow-core anti-resonant fiber (HC-ARF) with glass-sheet conjoined nested tubes that supports five core modes of LP01-LP31 with low mode couplings, large differential group delays (DGDs), and low bending losses (BLs) is proposed. A novel cladding structure with glass-sheet conjoined nested tubes (CNT) is induced for the proposed HC-ARF which can suppress mode couplings between the LP01-LP31 modes and the cladding modes. The higher-order modes (HOMs) which are LP11-LP31 modes also have very low loss by optimizing the radius of the nested tube and the core radius. Moreover, the large effective refractive index differences Δn eff between HOMs are all larger than 1 × 10 -4 which contributes to a large DGD in the wavelength range from 1.3 to 1.7 µm. The bending loss of the HC-ARF is analyzed and optimized emphatically. Our calculation results show that bending losses of LP01-LP31 modes are all lower than 3.0 × 10 -4 dB/m in the wavelength range from 1.4 to 1.61 µm even when the fiber bending radius of the HC-ARF is 6 cm.

This paper focuses on the quantized consensus problem of discrete-time second-order multi-agent systems which suffer from bounded process noise. In such systems, neighboring agents exchange information through a digital network that has only a finite bit rate and is subject to bounded network delay. Network delay may exacerbate the effects of quantization error and degrade the control performance by reducing the information to be extracted from receiving time instants of exchange packets. To handle network delay and save communication bit rates, an event-triggered distributed control protocol based on a dynamic encoding-decoding policy is proposed. Under the proposed event-triggered protocol, the asymptotic consensus of the concerned noise-free multi-agent systems can be achieved at a lower bit rate than that of periodic sampling control. This bit rate superiority results from the fact that our protocol makes use of the extra information being extracted from the event-triggering time instants. Moreover, it is shown that no higher bit rate is required to guarantee the desired consensus in the existence of bounded process noise. Simulations are done to demonstrate the effectiveness of our consensus protocol. This paper presents a local micro-structured long period fiber grating (LMS-LPFG) ultra-broadband optical filter based on the wide bandwidth near the phase-matching turning point (PMTP). The structure of LMS-LPFG is obtained by dividing a LPFG into two parts of equal length and reducing the cladding radius of the second LPFG. At this time, the LMS-LPFG can be regarded as a cascade of two equal-length LPFGs with different resonance wavelengths. The cladding mode and grating period are determined to make the first LPFG work in the double-peak resonance state, and the second LPFG operates near PMTP. It is found that the transmission spectra of the two LPFGs can be superimposed to form a wide loss bandwidth. Then the cladding radii of the second LPFG and grating structure parameters are designed based on coupled-mode theory. First, the grating period corresponding to the operating wavelength is determined from the phase-matching curve of LMS-LPFG. Then, the radius of the second LPFG with a designated grating period is selected to make LPFG 2 work in PMTP by reducing its cladding radius. In addition, the grating lengths of the two LPFGs are determined by maximizing the loss of the LMS-LPFG's transmission spectrum. Finally, the two LPFGs are cascaded into a LMS-LPFG, and the optical transmission spectrum of the LMS-LPFG is calculated by the transfer matrix method. Simulation results show that the bandwidth of the transmission spectrum can reach 380 nm. In addition, the flexibility of design for the operating wave band is discussed and confirmed, and can meet different actual requirements of optical communication.

Background: Testicular cancer is the most common solid malignancy in young men. Given the many histological classifications of testicular tumors, seminoma is one of the most treatable cancers. The survival rate in early-stage disease was more than 90%. Thus, seminoma at the cellular and molecular levels, especially at the single-cell level, is worth studying., Methods: We performed a single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) study on a patient who was diagnosed with testicular seminoma with lymph node metastasis. This study presented tumor tissue, PBMC, pelvic and renal hilus lymph node in a total of 18,206 high-quality single-cell transcriptome information. The characteristics of metastatic cell lineage were revealed by the comparison between different tumor cell subtypes at the scRNA level., Results: A single-cell map of testicular seminoma with lymph node metastasis was constructed by scRNA-seq. We discovered the gene expression characteristics of the tumor cells in testicular seminoma, especially metastatic tumor cells. KRT8 and KRT18 were commonly expressed in the three tumor cell subtypes. However, TCF7L1 , SCG3 and SV2C were the specifically expressed genes of tumor cell subtypes in primary tumor sites. Some molecular markers specifically expressed by the metastatic cell lineage, such as POU5F1 , were identified., Conclusions: We revealed the molecular characteristics of testicular seminoma at the single-cell level, especially the metastatic tumor cells. Background: To explore the efficacy of microwave ablation (MWA) in the treatment of hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (HAE) with a diameter of ≤5 cm., Method: From June 2014 to January 2020, patients diagnosed with HAE were retrospectively analyzed. After balancing the confounding factors by propensity score matching (PSM) , the patients were divided into MWA group (n = 20) and radical operation group (n = 20) by 1:1 matching. The safety and effectiveness of MWA were assessed by comparing the differences between the two groups in terms of postoperative general laboratory indices, grading of postoperative complications, length of postoperative hospitalization, the outcome of treatment, and disease recurrence., Result: After PSM, all confounders were not statistically different (P>0.05) . Compared with the radical surgery group, patients in the MWA group had lower postoperative ALT and WBC elevations (P<0.001) , shorter postoperative hospital stay (P<0.001) ) , lower hospital costs (P<0.001) . The effective rate of the two groups was 100%. There was no statistical difference in the incidence of postoperative complications and recurrence rate (P>0.05)., Conclusion: MWA is a safe and effective means of treating HAE ≤ 5 cm in diameter., (Copyright © 2022 The Authors. This article investigates the input-to-state stability (ISS) of continuous-time networked control systems with model uncertainty and bounded noise based on event triggering. The feedback loop is closed over an unreliable digital communication network. Feedback packets suffer from network delay and may be dropped in an independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) way, which may harm to the concerned stability. This article focuses on a Lyapunov-based event-triggered control design scheme with the consideration of i.i.d. packet dropouts. By designing a state-dependent event-triggering threshold and updating methods, it can still ensure ISS for the concerned multidimensional system in the presence of i.i.d. packet dropouts and model uncertainty without exhibiting the Zeno behavior. Simulations are done to verify the effectiveness of the achieved results.

Background: Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are important initiators of innate and acquired immune responses. However, its role in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) remains unclear. Methods: TLRs and their relationships with KIRC were studied in detail by ONCOMINE, UALCAN, GEPIA, cBioPortal, GeneMANIA, FunRich, LinkedOmics, TIMER and TRRUST. Moreover, we used clinical samples to verify the expressions of TLR3 and TLR4 in early stage of KIRC by real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), flow cytometry (FC) and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Results: The expression levels of TLRs in KIRC were generally different compared with adjacent normal tissues. Moreover, the expressions of TLR3 and TLR4 elevated significantly in the early stage of KIRC. Overexpressions of TLR1, TLR3, TLR4 and TLR8 in KIRC patients were associated with longer overall survival (OS), while inhibition of TLR9 expression was related to longer OS. Additionally, overexpressions of TLR1, TLR3 and TLR4 in KIRC patients were associated with longer disease free survival (DFS). There were general genetic alterations and obvious co-expression correlation of TLRs in KIRC. The PPI network between TLRs was rather complex, and the key gene connecting the TLRs interaction was MYD88. The GO analysis and KEGG pathway analysis indicated that TLRs were closely related to adaptive immunity, innate immunity and other immune-related processes. RELA, NFKB1, IRF8, IRF3 and HIF1A were key transcription factors regulating the expressions of TLRs. What's more, the expression levels of all TLRs in KIRC were positively correlated with the infiltration levels of dendritic cells, macrophages, neutrophils, B cells, CD4 + T cells and CD8 + T cells. Finally, the results of RT-qPCR, FC and IHC confirmed that TLR3 and TLR4 were significantly elevated in the early stage of KIRC. Conclusion: The occurrence and development of KIRC are closely related to TLRs, and TLRs have the potential to be early diagnostic biomarkers of KIRC and biomarkers for judging the prognosis and immune status of KIRC. Various land use types have been implemented by the government in the loess hilly region of China to facilitate sustainable land use. Understanding the variability in soil moisture and temperature under various sloping land use types can aid the ecological restoration and sustainable utilization of sloping land resources. The objective of this study was to use approximate entropy (ApEn) to reveal the variations in soil moisture and temperature under different land use types, because ApEn only requires a short data series to obtain robust estimates, with a strong anti-interference ability. An experiment was conducted with four typical land use scenarios (i.e., soybean sloping field, maize terraced field, jujube orchard, and grassland) over two consecutive plant growing seasons (2014 and 2015), and the time series of soil moisture and temperature within different soil depth layers of each land use type were measured in both seasons. The results showed that the changing amplitude, degree of variation, and active layer of soil moisture in the 0-160 cm soil depth layer, as well as the changing amplitude and degree of variation of soil temperature in the 0-100 cm soil layer increased in the jujube orchard over the two growing seasons. The changing amplitude, degree of variation, and active layer of soil moisture all decreased in the maize terraced field, as did the changing amplitude and degree of variation of soil temperature. The ApEn of the soil moisture series was the lowest in the 0-160 cm soil layer in the maize terraced field, and the ApEn of the soil temperature series was the highest in the 0-100 cm layer in the jujube orchard in the two growing seasons. Finally, the jujube orchard soil moisture and temperature change process were more variable, whereas the changes in the maize terraced field were more stable, with a stable soil moisture and temperature. Oxytocin (OXT) is a nine amino acid neuropeptide hormone that has become one of the most intensively studied molecules in the past few decades. The vast majority of OXT is synthesized in the periventricular nucleus and supraoptic nucleus of the hypothalamus, and a few are synthesized in some peripheral organs (such as the uterus, ovaries, adrenal glands, thymus, pancreas, etc.) OXT modulates a series of physiological processes, including lactation, parturition, as well as some social behaviors. In addition, more and more attention has recently been focused on the analgesic effects of oxytocin. It has been reported that OXT can relieve tension and pain without other adverse effects. However, the critical role and detailed mechanism of OXT in analgesia remain unclear. This article investigates the asymptotic consensus problem for multiple discrete-time agents with general dynamics under event-triggered sampling. In such multiagent systems (MASs), the information exchanged between neighboring agents is quantized and transmitted through a digital communication network. Due to the limited bandwidth, it is impossible for agents to capture the precise states of neighbors and only their quantized version can be received, which may degrade or even break the consensus of these MASs. In order to ensure the desired consensus and save the occupied network bandwidth, a model-based event-triggering strategy is well co-designed with a dynamic quantization method. Under the proposed strategy, the error between the real state and its estimated version at neighbors is always bounded by an event-triggering function, which is also taken to compute an upper bound on the control inputs of all agents. We derive a sufficient bit-rate condition required for the desired asymptotic consensus. That condition is mainly determined by the dynamics and communication network topology of agents. Since our event-triggering strategy takes advantage of the extra information extracted from the event-triggering time instants of all feedback packets, the derived bit rate can be lower than that of the conventional periodic sampling strategies, while still ensuring the consensus of the concerned MAS. Simulations are done to illustrate the advantages of the derived bit-rate condition.

The presence of foreign or misplaced nucleic acids is a dangerous signal that triggers innate immune responses by activating cytosolic DNA sensor cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) and binding to its downstream signaling effector stimulator of interferon genes (STING). Then the cGAS-STING pathway activation links nucleic acid-sensing to immune responses and pathogenic entities clearance. However, the overactivation of this signaling pathway leads to fatal immune disorders and contributes to the progression of many human inflammatory diseases. Therefore, optimal activation of this pathway is crucial for the elimination of invading pathogens and the maintenance of immune homeostasis. The hippocampus is a temporal lobe structure critical for cognition, such as learning, memory, and attention, as well as emotional responses. Hippocampal dysfunction can lead to persistent anxiety and/or depression. However, how millions of neurons in the hippocampus are molecularly and structurally organized to engage their divergent functions remains unknown. Here, we genetically target a subset of neurons expressing the coagulation factor c homolog (COCH) gene. COCH-expressing neurons or COCH neurons are topographically segregated in the distal region of the ventral CA3 hippocampus and express Mtf1 and Cacna1h. MTF1 activation of Cacna1h transcription in COCH neurons encodes the ability of COCH neurons to burst action potentials and cause social-stress-induced anxiety-like behaviors by synapsing directly with a subset of GABAergic inhibitory neurons in the lateral septum.
