Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) as a plasticizer has been widely used in the processing of plastic products. Nevertheless, these DBP additives have the potential to be released into the environment throughout the entire life cycle of plastic products. Herein, the leaching behavior of DBP from PVC microplastics (MPs) in freshwater and seawater and its potential risks were investigated. The results show that the plasticizer content, UV irradiation, and hydrochemical conditions have a great influence on the leaching of DBP from the MPs. The release of DBP into the environment increases proportionally with higher concentrations of additive DBP in MPs, particularly when it exceeds 15 %. The surface of MPs undergoes accelerated oxidation and increased hydrophilicity under UV radiation, thereby facilitating the leaching of DBP. Through 30 continuous leaching experiments, the leaching of DBP from MPs in freshwater and seawater can reach up to 12.28 and 5.42 mg g -1 , respectively, indicating that MPs are a continuous source of DBP pollution in the aquatic environment. Moreover, phthalate pollution index (PPI) indicates that MPs can significantly increase DBP pollution in marine environment through land and sea transport processes. Background: The complexity of cancer is intricately linked to its multifaceted biological processes, including the roles of the tumor microenvironment (TME) as well as genetic and metabolic regulation. Histone lactylation has recently emerged as a novel epigenetic modification mechanism that plays a pivotal role in regulating cancer initiation, proliferation, invasion, and metastasis., Objective: This review aims to elucidate the role of histone lactylation in modulating various aspects of tumor biology, including DNA repair mechanisms, glycolytic metabolic abnormalities, functions of non-tumor cells in the TME, and the promotion of tumor inflammatory responses and immune escape. Additionally, the review explores potential therapeutic strategies targeting histone lactylation., Methods: A comprehensive literature review was performed, analyzing recent findings on histone lactylation and its impact on cancer biology. This involved a systematic examination of studies focusing on biochemical pathways, cellular interactions, and clinical implications related to histone lactylation., Results: Histone lactylation was identified as a critical regulator of tumor cell DNA repair mechanisms and glycolytic metabolic abnormalities. It also significantly influences the functions of non-tumor cells within the TME, promoting tumor inflammatory responses and immune escape. Moreover, histone lactylation acts as a multifunctional biological signaling molecule impacting immune responses within the TME. Background: Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are industrial chemicals categorised as persistent organic pollutants because of their toxicity, persistency and tendency to long-range transport, bioaccumulation and biomagnification. Despite having been the subject of environmental attention for decades, analytical methods for CPs still struggle reaching a sufficient degree of accuracy. Among the issues negatively impacting the quantification of CPs, the unavailability of well-characterised standards, both as pure substances and as matrix (certified) reference materials (CRMs), has played a major role. The focus of this study was to provide a matrix CRM as quality control tool to improve the comparability of CPs measurement results., Results: We present the process of certification of ERM®-CE100, the first fish reference material assigned with certified values for the mass fraction of short-chain and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs and MCCPs, respectively). The certification was performed in accordance with ISO 17034:2016 and ISO Guide 35:2017, with the value assignment step carried out via an intercomparison of laboratories of demonstrated competence in CPs analysis and applying procedures based on different analytical principles. After confirmation of the homogeneity and stability of the CRM, two certified values were assigned for SCCPs, depending on the calibrants used: 31 ± 9 μg kg -1 and 23 ± 7 μg kg -1 . The MCCPs certified value was established as 44 ± 17 μg kg -1 . All assigned values are relative to wet weight in the CRM that was produced as a fish paste to enhance similarity to routine biota samples., Significance and Novelty: The fish tissue ERM-CE100 is the first matrix CRM commercially available for the analysis of CPs, enabling analytical laboratories to improve the accuracy and the metrological traceability of their measurements. Tri (2-chloropropyl) phosphate (TCPP) was an emerging contaminant of global concern because of its frequent occurrence, potential toxic effects, and persistence in the environment. Microbial degradation might be an efficient and safe removal method, but limited information was available. In this study, Providencia rettgeri was isolated from contaminated sediment and showed it could use TCPP as unique phosphorus source to promote growth, and decompose 34.7% of TCPP (1 mg/L) within 5 days. The microbial inoculation and the initial concentration of TCPP could affect the biodegradation efficient. Further study results indicated that TCPP decomposition by Providencia rettgeri was mainly via phosphoester bond hydrolysis, evidenced by the production of bis (2-chloropropyl) phosphate (C 6 H 13 Cl 2 PO 4 ) and mono-chloropropyl phosphate (C 3 H 8 ClPO 4 ). Both intracellular and extracellular enzymes could degrade TCPP, but intracellular degradation was dominant in the later reaction stage, and the presence of Cu 2+ ions had a promoting effect. Electrocatalytic reduction of biomass-derived furan compounds provides a green and sustainable approach to produce value-added fuels and chemicals. Despite the achievements in unimolecular transformation, C-C coupling which holds great promise to yield precursors for high-density fuels has not received extensive attention. Herein, we report a Cu 2 O-derived nanowire array material with switchable selectivity to electrocatalytic reduction of furfural depending on the electrolyte pH. Besides a high selectivity of 98.4% to furfuryl alcohol via hydrogenation at pH 9.5, the Cu 2 O-derived array structure also exhibits a high selectivity of 83.5% to hydrofuroin via C-C coupling at pH 14. Upon control experiments and detailed characterization of the electrodes, the array architecture is proposed to decrease the diffusion of ketyl radicals which are the key intermediates for C-C coupling. The confined diffusion results in a high local concentration of the radicals in the array and facilitates their collision for enhancing the formation of hydrofuroin.

Large bone defects cause significant clinical challenges due to the lack of optimal grafts for effective regeneration. The tissue engineering way that requires the combination of biomaterials scaffold, stem cells and proper bioactive factors is a prospective method for large bone repair. Here, we synthesized a three-arm host-guest supramolecule (HGSM) to covalently crosslinking with the naturally derived polymer methacrylated silk fibroin (SFMA). The combination of HGSM and SFMA can form a high strength double-crosslinked hydrogel HGSFMA, that serve as the hydrogel scaffold for bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) growing. Icariin (ICA) loaded in the HGSFMA hydrogel can promote the osteogenesis efficiency of BMSCs and inhibit the osteoclasts differentiation. Our findings demonstrated that the HGSFMA/ICA hydrogel effectively promoted the in vitro adhesion, proliferation, and osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs. Rat femoral defects model show that this hydrogel can completely repair femoral damage within 4 weeks and significantly promote the secretion of osteogenesis-related proteins. Following the enactment of a generic ban in China in 2021, the synthetic cannabinoid market has been evolving, now encompassing even wider structural diversity. Compounds carrying a brominated core such as ADB-5'Br-BUTINACA (ADMB-B-5Br-INACA) and tail-less analogs, such as ADB-5'Br-INACA (ADMB-5Br-INACA), MDMB-5'Br-INACA, and ADB-INACA (ADMB-INACA), have been detected since late 2021. This study investigated the cannabinoid receptor (CB) activation potential of synthesized (S)-enantiomers of these substances, as well as of two predicted analogs MDMB-5'Br-BUTINACA (MDMB-B-5Br-INACA) and ADB-5'F-BUTINACA (ADMB-B-5F-INACA), using CB 1 and CB 2 β-arrestin 2 recruitment assays and a CB 1 intracellular calcium release assay. Surprisingly, the tail-less (S)-ADB-5'Br-INACA and (S)-MDMB-5'Br-INACA retained CB activity, albeit with a decreased potency compared to their tailed counterparts (S)-ADB-5'Br-BUTINACA and (S)-MDMB-5'Br-BUTINACA, respectively, which were potent and efficacious CB 1 agonists. Also, at CB 2 , tail-less analogs showed a lower potency but increased efficacy. Removing the bromine substitution ((S)-ADB-INACA) resulted in a reduced activity at CB 1 ; however, this effect was less prominent at CB 2 . Looking at tailed analogs, replacing the bromine with a fluorine substitution ((S)-ADB-5'F-BUTINACA) resulted in an increased potency and efficacy at both receptors. Furthermore, as ADB-5'Br-INACA and MDMB-5'Br-INACA have been frequently detected together in Scottish prisons, this study also evaluated the CB 1 receptor activation potential of different mixtures of their respective reference standards, showing no unexpected cannabimimetic effect of combining both substances. Lastly, two powders seized by Belgian Customs and confirmed to contain ADB-5'Br-INACA and MDMB-5'Br-INACA, respectively, were assessed for CB activity. The present study investigates the chemical composition variances among Pinelliae Rhizoma, a widely used Chinese herbal medicine, and its common adulterants including Typhonium flagelliforme , Arisaema erubescens , and Pinellia pedatisecta . Utilizing the non-targeted metabolomics technique of employing UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap HRMS, this research aims to comprehensively delineate the metabolic profiles of Pinelliae Rhizoma and its adulterants. Multivariate statistical methods including PCA and OPLS-DA are employed for the identification of differential metabolites. Volcano plot analysis is utilized to discern upregulated and downregulated compounds. KEGG pathway analysis is conducted to elucidate the differences in metabolic pathways associated with these compounds, and significant pathway enrichment analysis is performed. A total of 769 compounds are identified through metabolomics analysis, with alkaloids being predominant, followed by lipids and lipid molecules. Significant differential metabolites were screened out based on VIP > 1 and p -value < 0.05 criteria, followed by KEGG enrichment analysis of these differential metabolites. Differential metabolites between Pinelliae Rhizoma and Typhonium flagelliforme , as well as between Pinelliae Rhizoma and Pinellia pedatisecta , are significantly enriched in the biosynthesis of amino acids and protein digestion and absorption pathways. Differential metabolites between Pinelliae Rhizoma and Arisaema erubescens are mainly enriched in tyrosine metabolism and phenylalanine metabolism pathways. These findings aim to provide valuable data support and theoretical references for further research on the pharmacological substances, resource development and utilization, and quality control of Pinelliae Rhizoma.

Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) and Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH) are autoimmune diseases that target hepatocytes and bile duct cells, respectively. Despite their shared autoimmune nature, the differences in immunologic characteristics between them remain largely unexplored. This study seeks to elucidate the unique immunological profiles of PBC and AIH, and to identify key differences. We comprehensively analyzed various T-cell subsets and their receptor expression in a cohort of 45 patients, including 27 PBC and 18 AIH cases. Both diseases exhibited T cell exhaustion and senescence along with a surge in inflammatory cytokines. Significantly increased CD38+HLA-DR+CD8+T cell populations were observed in both diseases. AIH was characterized by an upregulation of CD8+TEMRA, CD4+TEM, and CD4+TEMRA cells, and a concurrent reduction in Treg cells. In contrast, PBC displayed a pronounced presence of Tfh cells and a contraction of CD4-CD8-T cell populations. Correlation analysis revealed that NKP46+NK frequency was closely tied to ALT and AST levels, and TIGIT expression on T cells was associated with GLB level in AIH. In PBC, there is a significant correlation between Tfh cells and ALP levels. Moreover, the identified immune landscapes in both diseases strongly related to disease severity. Through logistic regression analysis, γδ T, TIGIT+Vδ2 T, and Tfh1 cell frequencies emerged as distinct markers capable of differentiating PBC from AIH. In conclusion, our analyses reveal that PBC and AIH share similarities and differences regarding to immune profiles. And γδ T, TIGIT+Vδ2 T, and Tfh1 cell frequencies are potential noninvasive immunological markers that can differentiate PBC from AIH., (© The Author(s) 2024. Noninvasive differentiation between the squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma (ADC) subtypes of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) could benefit patients who are unsuitable for invasive diagnostic procedures. Therefore, this study evaluates the predictive performance of a PET/CT-based radiomics model. It aims to distinguish between the histological subtypes of lung adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, employing four different machine learning techniques. A total of 255 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) patients were retrospectively analyzed and randomly divided into the training (n = 177) and validation (n = 78) sets, respectively. Radiomics features were extracted, and the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) method was employed for feature selection. Subsequently, models were constructed using four distinct machine learning techniques, with the top-performing algorithm determined by evaluating metrics such as accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and the area under the curve (AUC). The efficacy of the various models was appraised and compared using the DeLong test. A nomogram was developed based on the model with the best predictive efficiency and clinical utility, and it was validated using calibration curves. Results indicated that the logistic regression classifier had better predictive power in the validation cohort of the radiomic model. The combined model (AUC 0.870) exhibited superior predictive power compared to the clinical model (AUC 0.848) and the radiomics model (AUC 0.774). The construction of structural complexity and diversity of natural products is crucial for drug discovery and development. To overcome high dark toxicity and poor photostability of natural photosensitizer perylenequinones (PQs) for photodynamic therapy, herein, we aim to introduce the structural complexity and diversity to biosynthesize the desired unnatural PQs in fungus Cercospora through synthetic biology-based strategy. Thus, we first elucidate the intricate biosynthetic pathways of class B PQs and reveal how the branching enzymes create their structural complexity and diversity from a common ancestor. This enables the rational reprogramming of cercosporin biosynthetic pathway in Cercospora to generate diverse unnatural PQs without chemical modification. Among them, unnatural cercosporin A displays remarkably low dark toxicity and high photostability with retention of great photodynamic anticancer and antimicrobial activities. Moreover, it is found that, unlike cercosporin, unnatural cercosporin A could be selectively accumulated in cancer cells, providing potential targets for drug development. Gentamicin mycelium residues (GMRs) abundant in organic substances were generated during the production of gentamicin. Inappropriate handling techniques not only waste valuable resources, they could also result in residual gentamicin into the natural environment, leading to the generation of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), which would cause a significant threat to ecological system and human health. In the present work, the effects of thermal treatment on the removal of residual gentamicin in GMRs, as well as the changes of associated ARGs abundance, antimicrobial activity and bioresources properties were investigated. The results indicated that the hazards of GMRs was significantly reduced through thermal treatment. The degradation rate of residual gentamicin in GMRs reached 100 %, the total abundance of gentamicin resistance genes declined from 8.20 to 1.14 × 10 -5 and the antibacterial activity of the decomposition products of GMRs on Vibrio fischeri was markedly reduced at 200 °C for 120 min. Additionally, the thermal treatment remarkably influenced the bioresource properties of GMRs-decomposition products. The release of soluble organic matters including soluble carbohydrates and soluble proteins have been enhanced in GMRs, while excessively high temperatures could lead to a reduction of nutrient substances. Rationally modulating the binding strength of reaction intermediates on surface sites of copper-based catalysts could facilitate C-C coupling to generate multicarbon products in an electrochemical CO 2 reduction reaction. Herein, theoretical calculations reveal that cascade Ag-Cu dual sites could synergistically increase local CO coverage and lower the kinetic barrier for CO protonation, leading to enhanced asymmetric C-C coupling to generate C 2 H 4 . As a proof of concept, the Cu 3 N-Ag nanocubes (NCs) with Ag located in partial Cu sites and a Cu 3 N unit center are successfully synthesized. The Faraday efficiency and partial current density of C 2 H 4 over Cu 3 N-Ag NCs are 7.8 and 9.0 times those of Cu 3 N NCs, respectively. In situ spectroscopies combined with theoretical calculations confirm that Ag sites produce CO and Cu sites promote asymmetric C-C coupling to *COCHO, significantly enhancing the generation of C 2 H 4 . Our work provides new insights into the cascade catalysis strategy at the atomic scale for boosting CO 2 to multicarbon products.

Background: The existing staging system cannot meet the needs of accurate survival prediction. Accurate survival prediction for locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) patients who have undergone concurrent radiochemotherapy (CCRT) can improve their treatment management. Thus, this present study aimed to develop and validate radiomics models based on pretreatment 18 Fluorine-fluorodeoxyglucose ( 18 F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)-computed tomography (CT) images to accurately predict the prognosis in patients., Methods: The data from 190 consecutive patients with LACC who underwent pretreatment 18 F-FDG PET-CT and CCRT at two cancer hospitals were retrospectively analyzed; 176 patients from the same hospital were randomly divided into training (n = 117) and internal validation (n = 50) cohorts. Clinical features were selected from the training cohort using univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards models; radiomic features were extracted from PET and CT images and filtered using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator and Cox proportional hazard regression. Three prediction models and a nomogram were then constructed using the previously selected clinical, CT and PET radiomics features. The external validation cohort that was used to validate the models included 23 patients with LACC from another cancer hospital. The predictive performance of the constructed models was evaluated using receiver operator characteristic curves, Kaplan Meier curves, and a nomogram., Results: In total, one clinical, one PET radiomics, and three CT radiomics features were significantly associated with progression-free survival in the training cohort. Across all three cohorts, the combined model displayed better efficacy and clinical utility than any of these parameters alone in predicting 3-year progression-free survival (area under curve: 0.661, 0.718, and 0.775; C-index: 0.698, 0.724, and 0.705, respectively) and 5-year progression-free survival (area under curve: 0.661, 0.711, and 0.767; C-index, 0.698, 0.722, and 0.676, respectively). On subsequent construction of a nomogram, the calibration curve demonstrated good agreement between actually observed and nomogram-predicted values., Conclusions: In this study, a clinico-radiomics prediction model was developed and successfully validated using an independent external validation cohort. Acoustically actuated magnetoelectric (ME) antennas utilize acoustic wave resonance to complete the process of receiving and transmitting signals, which promotes the development of antenna miniaturization technology. This paper presents a bilayer magnetostrictive/AlN ME laminated antenna. The proposed laminated antenna uses the FeGa/FeGaB bilayer materials as magnetostrictive materials, which combine the advantages of soft magnetic properties of FeGa and the low loss of FeGaB. First, multiphysics modeling and analysis are performed for the proposed ME laminated antenna by finite element method (FEM). The positive/inverse ME effects and the influences of the volume ratio of the FeGa/FeGaB bilayer on the antenna performance are studied. The results show that the output voltage and ME coefficient of the FeGa/FeGaB bilayer magnetostrictive material with a volume ratio of 1:1 are 3.97 times and 195.8% higher than that of the single FeGaB layer, respectively. The eddy current loss is 52.08% lower than that of single-layer FeGa. According to the surface equivalence principle, the far-field radiation process is simulated. The results show that the gain of the ME antenna is 15 dB larger than that of the same-size micro-loop antenna, and the gain of the ME antenna is about -44.9 dB. The improved performance and magnetic tunability of the proposed bilayer magnetostrictive materials make ME antennas excellent candidates for portable devices and implantable medical devices.

Acetaminophen (APAP) stands as the predominant contributor to drug-induced liver injury (DILI), and limited options are available. β-Arrestin1 (ARRB1) is involved in numerous liver diseases. However, the role of ARRB1 in APAP-induced liver injury remained uncertain. Wild-type (WT) and ARRB1 knockout (KO) mice were injected with APAP and sacrificed at the indicated times. The histological changes, inflammation, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and apoptosis were then evaluated. Hepatic cell lines AML-12 and primary hepatocytes were used for in vitro analyses. Systemic ARRB1-KO mice were susceptible to APAP-induced hepatotoxicity, as indicated by larger areas of centrilobular necrosis area and higher levels of ALT, AST, and inflammation level. Moreover, ARRB1-KO mice exhibited increased ER stress (indicated by phosphorylated α subunit of eukaryotic initiation factor 2 (p-eIF2α)-activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4)-CCAAT-enhancer-binding protein homologous protein (CHOP)) and apoptosis (indicated by cleaved caspase 3). Further rescue experiments demonstrated that the induction of apoptosis was partially mediated by ER stress. Overexpression of ARRB1 alleviated APAP-induced ER stress and apoptosis. Moreover, co-IP analysis revealed that ARRB1 directly bound to p-eIF2α and eIF2α. ARRB1 protected against APAP-induced hepatoxicity through targeting ER stress and apoptosis. Liver fibrosis is a reparative response to injury that arises from various etiologies, characterized by activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). Periostin, a secreted matricellular protein, has been reported to participate in tissue development and regeneration. However, its involvement in liver fibrosis remains unknown. This study investigated the roles and mechanisms of Periostin in phenotypic transition of HSCs and relevant abnormal cellular crosstalk during liver fibrosis. The fate of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) during liver fibrogenesis was investigated using single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing profiles, which revealed a significant proliferation of activated HSCs (aHSCs) in fibrotic livers of both humans and mice. αSMA-TK mice were used to demonstrate that depletion of proliferative aHSCs attenuates liver fibrosis induced by carbon tetrachloride and 3,5-diethoxycarbonyl-1,4-dihydrocollidine. Through integrating data from single-cell and bulk sequencing, Periostin was identified as a distinctive hallmark of proliferative aHSC subpopulation. Elevated levels of Periostin were detected in fibrotic livers of both humans and mice, primarily within aHSCs. However, hepatic Periostin levels were decreased along with depletion of proliferative aHSCs. Deficiency of Periostin led to reduced liver fibrosis and suppressed hepatocyte epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Periostin-overexpressing HSCs, exhibiting a proliferative aHSC phenotype, release bone morphogenetic protein-1 (Bmp-1), which activates EGFR signaling, inducing hepatocyte EMT and contributing to liver fibrosis. In conclusion, Periostin in aHSCs drives their acquisition of a proliferative phenotype and the release of Bmp-1. Proliferative aHSC subpopulation-derived Bmp-1 induces hepatocyte EMT via EGFR signaling, promoting liver fibrogenesis. Bumblebees are essential pollinators of both wildflowers and crops and face multiple anthropogenic stressors, particularly the utilization of pesticides. Rotenone is an extensively applied neurotoxic pesticide that possesses insecticidal activities against a wide range of pests. However, whether environmentally realistic exposure levels of rotenone can damage neurons in bumblebee brains is still uncertain. Using single-cell RNA-seq, we revealed that rotenone induced cell-specific responses in bumblebee brains, emphasizing the disruption of energy metabolism and mitochondrial dysfunction in glial cells. Correspondingly, the gene regulatory network associated with neurotransmission was also suppressed. Notably, rotenone could specially reduce the number of dopaminergic neurons, impairing bumblebee's ability to fly and crawl. We also found impaired intestinal motility in rotenone-treated bumblebees. Finally, we demonstrated that many differentially expressed genes in our snRNA-seq data overlapped with rotenone-induced Parkinson's disease risk genes, especially in glial cells. While earthquakes are considered one of the most prevalent natural disasters in China, there is limited empirical evidence regarding the long-term effects of earthquakes on energy poverty. Using data from China Family Panel Studies and China's historical earthquake catalog, this study investigates the long-term effects of earthquake intensity on energy poverty among households in China, and analyzes the long-term effects over different time spans. Our findings indicate that, higher earthquake intensities have an overall worsening long-term impact on energy poverty. When segmented into different time spans, households in regions with higher earthquake intensities are less likely to fall into energy poverty over the past 20 years and the past 20 to 50 years, whereas more likely to be energy poor over the longer time span. Moreover, we uncover that public infrastructure, government assistance, and mental well-being serve as channels through which earthquakes affect household energy poverty, with divergent effects over different time spans. In addition, we observe nonlinear evidence of earthquake intensity's long-term impact on energy poverty, and the long-term impacts are heterogeneous across different regions, as well as households with different registration statuses and household fuel types. The measurement of hemoglobin is a vital index for diagnosing and monitoring diseases in clinical practice. At present, solutions need to be found for the soreness, high risk of infection, and inconvenient operation associated with invasive detection methods. This paper proposes a method for non-invasively detecting hemoglobin levels based on multi-wavelength photoplethysmography (PPG) signals. AFE4490 and TMUX1109 were used to implement the low-cost collection of an eight-LED transmissive PPG signal. We used seven regular LEDs and one broadband LED (Osram SFH4737) as light sources. Additionally, a finger clip integrating multiple sensors was designed and manufactured via 3D printing to simultaneously monitor the LED-sensor distance and the pressure from the tester's finger during PPG signal acquisition. We used a method to extract features from PPG signals using a sliding-window's variance and an evaluation metric for PPG signals based on the AdaCost classification. Data were gathered from 56 participants from the Nephrology department, including 16 anemic patients. Pearson correlation analysis was conducted on the collected data to remove any data with a weak correlation. The advantage of using a broadband LED as a light source was also demonstrated. Several non-invasive hemoglobin regression models were created by applying AdaBoost, BPNN, and Random Forest models. The study's results indicate that the AdaBoost model produced the best performance, with a mean absolute error (MAE) of 2.67 g/L and a correlation coefficient (R 2 ) of 0.91 The study results show that the device we designed and manufactured can achieve effective non-invasive hemoglobin detection and represents a new methodological approach to obtaining measurements that can be applied in a clinical setting.

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) affects the metabolism of both the mother and fetus during and after pregnancy. Genetic factors are important in the pathogenesis of GDM, and associations vary by ethnicity. However, related studies about the relationship between the susceptibility genes and glucose traits remain limited in China. This study aimed to identify genes associated with GDM susceptibility in Chinese Han women and validate those findings using clinical data during pregnancy and postpartum period., Methods: A genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 398 Chinese Han women (199 each with and without GDM) was conducted and associations between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and glucose metabolism were identified by searching public databases. Relationships between filtered differential SNPs and glucose metabolism were verified using clinical data during pregnancy. The GDM group were followed up postpartum to evaluate the progression of glucose metabolism., Results: We identified five novel SNPs with genome-wide significant associations with GDM: rs62069863 in TRPV3 gene and rs2232016 in PRMT6 gene were positive correlated with 1 h plasma glucose (1hPG) and 2 h plasma glucose (2hPG), rs1112718 in HHEX/EXOC6 gene and rs10460009 in LPIN2 gene were positive associated with fasting plasma glucose, 1hPG and 2hPG, rs927316 in GLIS3 gene was negative correlated with 2hPG. Of the 166 GDM women followed up postpartum, rs62069863 in TRPV3 gene was positively associated with fasting insulin, homoeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance., Conclusions: The variants of rs62069863 in TRPV3 gene, rs2232016 in PRMT6 gene, rs1112718 in HHEX/EXOC6 gene, rs927316 in GLIS3 gene, and rs10460009 in LPIN2 gene were newly-identified susceptibility loci for GDM in the Chinese Han population. It is difficult to achieve deep dehalogenation or mineralization for halogenated antibiotics using traditional reduction or oxidation processes, posing the risk of microbial activity inhibition and bacterial resistance. Herein, an efficient electrocatalytic process coupling atomic hydrogen (H*) reduction with hydroxyl radical (•OH) oxidation on a bifunctional cathode catalyst is developed for the deep dehalogenation and mineralization of florfenicol (FLO). Atomically dispersed NiFe bimetallic catalyst on nitrogen-doped carbon as a bifunctional cathode catalyst can simultaneously generate H* and •OH through H 2 O/H + reduction and O 2 reduction, respectively. The H* performs nucleophilic hydro-dehalogenation, and the •OH performs electrophilic oxidization of the carbon skeleton. The experimental results and theoretical calculations indicate that reductive dehalogenation and oxidative mineralization processes can promote each other mutually, showing an effect of 1 + 1 > 2. 100% removal, 100% dechlorination, 70.8% defluorination, and 65.1% total organic carbon removal for FLO are achieved within 20 min ( C 0 = 20 mg·L -1 , -0.5 V vs SCE, pH 7). The relative abundance of the FLO resistance gene can be significantly reduced in the subsequent biodegradation system. This study demonstrates that the synergy of reduction dehalogenation and oxidation degradation can achieve the deep removal of refractory halogenated organic contaminants.

Objective: To explore the appropriate application of glycemic qualification rate (GQR) calculated by fingerstick blood glucose (BG) monitoring for patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) by analyzing the relationship between BG control and adverse pregnancy outcomes., Methods: Fingerstick Blood Glucose data during the second and third trimester of singleton pregnant women diagnosed with GDM were collected. GQR which is defined as the percentage of fingerstick BG values reaching the targets of BG control in a period of time was calculated. Patients were divided into three groups according to tertiles (tertile 1, GQR <56.25%; tertile 2, GQR 56.25-75%; and tertile 3, GQR ≥75%). Pregnant outcomes were compared among the three groups. Univariate analysis and logistic regression were performed to analyze the potential relationship between GQR and pregnancy outcomes. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were calculated to determine the cutoff values. We also explored that whether twice or three times monitoring per day would be adequate for GQR calculation, so we brought in two or three glucose measuring times per day to explore the relationship between new GQR and adverse outcomes., Results: A total of 311 patients diagnosed with GDM were analyzed. In univariate analysis, the incidences of cesarean section of tertile 1-3 groups were 61.4%, 58.7%, and 44.9%, respectively ( p  < .05). The incidences of neonatal hypoglycemia of tertiles 1-3 groups were 19.8%, 18.6%, and 8.7% ( p  < .05). The difference of composite outcomes was statistically significant ( p  = .001). After adjustment, the patients with worse BG control (lower GQR) had higher risk of cesarean section (tertile 1 - aOR = 2.029, 1.128-3.648), neonatal hypoglycemia (tertile 1: aOR = 2.498, 1.082-5.766) as well as composite outcomes. The ROC curve of GQR indicated the predictive value for neonatal hypoglycemia (area under the ROC curve (AUC) 0.612 (0.532-0.692)) and neonatal composite outcomes (AUC 0.593 (0.528-0.657)) with optimal cutoff values of 81.1% and 73.5%, respectively. We also explored that whether twice or three times monitoring per day would be adequate for GQR calculation. The result showed that GQR only calculated by FBG + 2hPG after lunch (2h AL) per day also had well relationship with cesarean section (tertile 1: OR = 2.412, 1.322-4.398), neonatal hypoglycemia (tertile 1: aOR = 4.497, 1.607-12.586), and neonatal composite outcomes (tertile 1: aOR = 1.959, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.114-3.444, p  = .020)., Conclusions: The GQR calculated by the easily applicable fingerstick BG is related to occurrence of cesarean section and neonatal hypoglycemia in GDM women. GQR ≥ 80% is recommended for better pregnancy outcomes. As for the number of points monitoring per day, GQR calculated by FBG + 2h AL was an optimal option for better pregnancy outcomes if mothers needed to simplify the process of monitoring.

Synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists (SCRAs) are a diverse class of new psychoactive substances (NPS) and new structural scaffolds have emerged on the recreational drug market since the enactment of Chinese SCRA analog controls in 2021. This study reports the first SCRAs to be detected with a bromide at the 5 position (5'Br) on the phenyl ring of the indazole core and without a tail moiety. ADB-5'Br-INACA (ADMB-5'Br-INACA) and MDMB-5'Br-INACA were detected in seized samples from Scottish prisons, Belgian customs, and US forensic casework. The brominated analog with a tail moiety, ADB-5'Br-BUTINACA (ADMB-5'Br-BUTINACA), was also detected in Scottish prisons and US forensic casework. The metabolites of these compounds and the predicted compound MDMB-5'Br-BUTINACA were identified through incubation with primary human hepatocytes to aid in their toxicological identification. The bromide on the indazole remains intact on metabolites, allowing these compounds to be easily distinguished in toxicological samples from their non-brominated analogs. Glucuronidation was more common for tail-less analogs than their butyl tail-containing counterparts. Forensic toxicologists are advised to update their analytical methods with the characteristic ions for these compounds, as well as their anticipated urinary markers: amide hydrolysis and monoOH at tert-butyl metabolites (after β-glucuronidase treatment) for ADB-5'Br-INACA; monoOH at tert-butyl and amide hydrolysis metabolites for ADB-5'Br-BUTINACA; and ester hydrolysis metabolites with additional metabolites for MDMB-5'Br-INACA and MDMB-5'Br-BUTINACA. Hydroxyl radical production via catalytic activation of HOCl is a new type of Fenton-like process. However, metal-chlorocomplex formation under high chloride conditions could deactivate the catalyst and reduce the process efficiency. Herein, in situ electrogenerated HOCl was activated to • OH via a metal-free, B/N-codoped carbon nanofiber cathode for the first time to degrade contaminant under high chloride condition. The results show 98% degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) within 120 min ( k = 0.036 min -1 ) under sulfate conditions, while complete degradation ( k = 0.188 min -1 ) was obtained in only 30 min under chloride conditions. An enhanced degradation mechanism consists of an Adsorb & Shuttle process , wherein adsorption concentrates the pollutants at the cathode surface and they are subsequently oxidized by the large amount of • OH produced via activation of HOCl and H 2 O 2 at the cathode. Density functional theory calculations verify the pyridinic N as the active site for the activation of HOCl and H 2 O 2 . The process efficiency was also evaluated by treating tetracycline and bisphenol A as well as high chloride-containing real secondary effluents from a pesticide manufacturing plant. High yields of • OH and HOCl allow continuous regeneration of the cathode for several cycles, limiting its fast deactivation, which is promising for real application.

BACKGROUND The study aimed to compare the patient-reported outcomes in patients who underwent early vs conventional feeding after thoracoscopic lung cancer resection. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study enrolled 211 patients who underwent thoracoscopic lung cancer resection at a tertiary hospital between July 2021 and July 2022. Patients were randomly assigned to the conventional group or the early feeding group. There were 106 patients in the early feeding group and 105 patients in the conventional group. The conventional group received water 4 h after extubation and liquid/semi-liquid food 6 h after extubation. In contrast, the early feeding group received water 1 h after extubation and liquid/semi-liquid food 2 h after extubation. The primary outcomes were the degree of hunger, thirst, nausea, and vomiting. The secondary outcomes were postoperative complications, duration of hospital stay, and chest tube drainage. RESULTS No differences were found between the 2 groups in the degrees of postoperative nausea, vomiting, or pain after extubation for 1, 2, 4, and 8 h. Postoperative complications, duration of chest tube drainage, and duration of hospital stay were also similar (P=0.567, P=0.783, P=0.696). However, the hunger and thirst scores after extubation for 2 h and 4 h decreased and were lower in the early feeding group (both P<0.001). No patients developed choking, postoperative aspiration, gastrointestinal obstruction, or other complications. CONCLUSIONS Early oral feeding after thoracoscopic lung cancer resection is safe and can increase patient comfort postoperatively.

The soil application of hydrothermally treated penicillin V fermentation residue (PFR) is attractive but challenged, due to the concern of the resistance risk in soil related to residual antibiotics. In this study, a lab-scale incubation experiment was conducted to investigate the influence of penicillin V on antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in PFR-amended soil via qPCR. The introduced penicillin V in soil could not be persistent, and its degradation occurred mainly within 2 days. The higher number of soil ARGs was detected under 108 mg/kg of penicillin V than lower contents (≤54 mg/kg). Additionally, the relative abundance of ARGs was higher in soil spiked with penicillin V than that in blank soil, and the great increase in the relative abundance of soil ARGs occurred earlier under 108 mg/kg of penicillin V than lower contents. The horizontal gene transfer might contribute to the shift of ARGs in PFR-amended soil. The results indicated that the residual penicillin V could cause the proliferation of soil ARGs and should be completely removed by hydrothermal treatment before soil application. The results of this study provide a comprehensive understanding of the resistance risk posed by penicillin V during the application of hydrothermally pretreated PFR.

Selective ion separation from brines is pivotal for attaining high-purity lithium, a critical nonrenewable resource. Conventional methods encounter substantial challenges, driving the quest for streamlined, efficient, and swift approaches. Here, we present a graphene oxide (GO)-based ternary heterostructure membrane with a unique design. By utilizing Zn 2+ -induced confinement synthesis in a two-dimensional (2D) space, we incorporated two-dimensional zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) and zinc alginate (ZA) polymers precisely within layers of the GO membrane, creating tunable interlayer channels with a ternary heterostructure. The pivotal design lies in ion insertion into the two-dimensional (2D) membrane layers, achieving meticulous modulation of layer spacing based on ion hydration radius. Notably, the ensuing layer spacing within the hybrid ionic intercalation membrane occupies an intermediary realm, positioned astutely between small-sized hydrated ionic intercalation membrane spacing and their more extensive counterparts. This deliberate configuration accelerates the swift passage of diminutive hydrated ions while simultaneously impeding the movement of bulkier ions within the brine medium. The outcome is remarkable selectivity, demonstrated by the partitioning of K + /Li + = 20.9, Na + /K + = 31.2, and Li + /Mg 2+ = 9.5 ion pairs. The ZIF-8/GO heterostructure significantly contributes to the selectivity, while the mechanical robustness and stability, improved by the ZA/GO heterostructure, further support its practical applicability. International trade is considered an important conduit for disseminating environmentally sound technologies (ESTs), but there is limited evidence of how trade in ESTs affects domestic firms' green innovation, particularly for importers. To close this knowledge gap, we first develop a basic model to conceptually examine how imported ESTs impact enterprises' performance in green innovation. Then, by creating a distinct combined database of firm-level trade and patent data from 2000 to 2016, we give empirical evidence. Our empirical results demonstrate a significant crowding-out effect of imported ESTs on green innovation, whereas technological proximity, learning capacity, and government subsidies can help to lessen this adverse effect. Furthermore, imported ESTs of peer firms in the same industry or imported ESTs of downstream industries have beneficial spillover effects on a focal firm's green innovation. Aim: This study aimed to investigate the effects of intensive psychological intervention care on adverse emotions and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms in female teenage patients after induced abortion., Methods: This prospective cohort study included 100 teenage female patients seeking induced abortion who were randomly divided into two groups: the intervention group ( n  = 50) and the control group ( n  = 50). The intervention group received intensive psychological intervention care, while the control group received standard routine nursing. The scores of the PTSD checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), self-rating depression (SDS), and self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) were compared between the two groups at 1 month and 3 months after the operation., Results: The intervention group had lower risk of developing PTSD (24% vs. 44%), depression (10% vs. 32%), and anxiety (0% vs. 12%) symptoms at 1 month after the surgery. However, there were no significant differences observed between the two groups at 3 months after the surgery. Summary: Here, we presented the scHiCDiff software tool that provides both nonparametric tests and parametirc models to detect differential chromatin interactions (DCIs) from single-cell Hi-C data. We thoroughly evaluated the scHiCDiff methods on both simulated and real data. Role-playing is widely used in many areas, such as psychotherapy and behavior change. However, few studies have explored the possible effects of playing multiple roles in a single role-playing process. We propose a new role-playing paradigm, called role-exchange playing, in which a user plays two opposite roles successively in the same simulated event for better cognitive enhancement. We designed an experiment with this novel role-exchange playing strategy in the immersive virtual environments; and school bullying was chosen as a scenario in this case. A total of 234 middle/high school students were enrolled in the mixed-design experiment. From the user study, we found that through role-exchange, students developed more morally correct opinions about bullying, as well as increased empathy and willingness to engage in supportive behavior. They also showed increased commitment to stopping bullying others. Our role-exchange paradigm could achieve a better effect than traditional role-playing methods in situations where participants have no prior experience associated with the roles they play. Therefore, using role-exchange playing in the immersive virtual environments to educate minors can help prevent them from bullying others in the real world. Our study indicates a positive significance in moral education of teenagers. Our role-exchange playing may have the potential to be extended to such applications as counseling, therapy, and crime prevention.

Objective: To observe the predictive value of speckle tracking technique (STI) for the degree of coronary artery stenosis in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD)., Methods: The clinical data of 120 patients with coronary artery stenosis admitted to Affiliated Hospital of Chengde Medical University from Feb. 2022 to Sep. 2022 was analyzed retrospectively. The other 63 patients who sought for medical help because of chest pain underwent Coronary Arteriography (CAG) examination during the same period but with Gensini score > 0 were selected as the control group. Coronary artery stenosis was divided into three subgroups according to the coronary Gensini score: mild, moderate, and severe stenosis. Routine ultrasound and STI techniques were performed in all patients. In addition, left ventricular global radial peak systolic strain (GRS), left ventricular global longitudinal peak systolic strain (GLS), left ventricular global peak systolic strain (GAS) and left ventricular global circumferential peak systolic strain (GCS) were measured and compared between the two groups and among the three subgroups., Results: There were no marked differences identified in conventional ultrasound parameters between the coronary artery stenosis group and control group, but the absolute values of GLS, GRS, GCS, and GAS were lower in the former group compared to control group; and the severe group had the lowest levels of above indexes, followed by moderate group, then mild group and control group (all P < 0.05). The results showed that the area under the curve (AUC) for GLS, GRS, GCS, and GAS in diagnosing coronary artery stenosis were 0.973, 0.933, 0.947, and 0.901, respectively. The AUCs of GLS, GRS, GCS, and GAS for the diagnosis of moderate/severe coronary artery stenosis were 0.968, 0.908, 0.901, and 0.942, respectively, with GAS and GLS assessed with the largest AUC values and higher sensitivity and specificity than other parameters., Conclusion: The global longitudinal strain of left ventricle obtained by STI technique was more sensitive to coronary artery stenosis than that by ultrasound technique, and it had a higher predictive value for coronary artery stenosis., Competing Interests: None., (AJTR Copyright © 2023.)

Organic materials have garnered intensive focus as a new group of electrodes for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, many reported organic electrodes so far still exhibit unsatisfying cycling stability because of the dissolution in the electrolytes. Herein, a novel azo-linked hexaazatrianphthalene (HATN)-based polymer (AZO-HATN-AQ) is designed and fabricated by the polymerization of trinitrodiquinoxalino[2,3-a:2',3'-c]phenazine (HATNTN) and 2,6-diaminoanthraquinone (DAAQ). The abundant redox-active sites, extended π-conjugated planar conformation, and low energy gap endow the AZO-HATN-AQ electrode with high theoretical capacity, excellent solubility resistance, and fast Li-ion transport. In particular, the fully lithiated AZO-HATN-AQ still keeps the planar structure, contributing to the excellent cycling stability. As a result, AZO-HATN-AQ cathodes show high specific capacity (240 mAh g -1 at 0.05 A g -1 ), prominent rate capability (98 mAh g -1 at 8 A g -1 ), and outstanding cycling stability (120 mAh g -1 after 2000 cycles at 4 A g -1 with 85.7% capacity retention) simultaneously. This study demonstrates that rational structure design of the polymer electrodes is an effective approach to achieving excellent comprehensive electrochemical performance.

MOFs have considerable adsorption capacity due to their huge specific surface area. They have the characteristics of photocatalysts for their organic ligands can absorb photons and produce electrons. In this paper, the photodegradation properties of TiO 2 composites loaded with UiO-66 were investigated for the first time for MO. A series of TiO 2 @UiO-66 composites with different contents of TiO 2 were prepared by a solvothermal method. The photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO) was performed using a high-pressure mercury lamp as the UV light source. The effects of TiO 2 loading, catalyst dosage, pH value, and MO concentration were investigated. The results showed that the degradation of MO by TiO 2 @UiO-66 could reach 97.59% with the addition of only a small amount of TiO 2 (5 wt%). TiO 2 @UiO-66 exhibited significantly enhanced photoelectron transfer capability and inhibited efficient electron-hole recombination compared to pure TiO 2 in MO degradation. The composite catalyst indicated good stability and reusability when they were recycled three times, and the photocatalytic reaction efficiencies were 92.54%, 88.76%, and 86.90%. As a complication of malignant tumors, brain metastasis (BM) seriously threatens patients' survival and quality of life. Accurate detection of BM before determining radiation therapy plans is a paramount task. Due to the small size and heterogeneous number of BMs, their manual diagnosis faces enormous challenges. Thus, MRI-based artificial intelligence-assisted BM diagnosis is significant. Most of the existing deep learning (DL) methods for automatic BM detection try to ensure a good trade-off between precision and recall. However, due to the objective factors of the models, higher recall is often accompanied by higher number of false positive results. In real clinical auxiliary diagnosis, radiation oncologists are required to spend much effort to review these false positive results. In order to reduce false positive results while retaining high accuracy, a modified YOLOv5 algorithm is proposed in this paper. First, in order to focus on the important channels of the feature map, we add a convolutional block attention model to the neck structure. Furthermore, an additional prediction head is introduced for detecting small-size BMs. Finally, to distinguish between cerebral vessels and small-size BMs, a Swin transformer block is embedded into the smallest prediction head. With the introduction of the F2-score index to determine the most appropriate confidence threshold, the proposed method achieves a precision of 0.612 and recall of 0.904. Compared with existing methods, our proposed method shows superior performance with fewer false positive results. It is anticipated that the proposed method could reduce the workload of radiation oncologists in real clinical auxiliary diagnosis.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is an important factor for the occurrence and development of CKD. The protective effect of dihydroartemisinin on AKI and and reported mechanism have not been reported. In this study, we used two animal models including ischemia-reperfusion and UUO, as well as a high-glucose-stimulated HK-2 cell model, to evaluate the protective effect of dihydroartemisinin on premature senescence of renal tubular epithelial cells in vitro and in vivo. We demonstrated that dihydroartemisinin improved renal aging and renal injury by activating autophagy. In addition, we found that co-treatment with chloroquine, an autophagy inhibitor, abolished the anti-renal aging effect of dihydroartemisinin in vitro. These findings suggested that activation of autophagy/elimination of senescent cell might be a useful strategy to prevent AKI/UUO induced renal tubular senescence and fibrosis., (Copyright © 2023 China Pharmaceutical University. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of primary liver cancer and has a poor prognosis. Pituitary tumor transforming gene 1 (PTTG1) is highly expressed in HCC, suggesting it could play an important role in hepatocellular carcinogenesis. Here, we evaluated the impact of PTTG1 deficiency on HCC development using a diethylnitrosamine (DEN)-induced HCC mouse model and a hepatitis B virus (HBV) regulatory X protein (HBx)-induced spontaneous HCC mouse model. PTTG1 deficiency significantly suppressed DEN- and HBx-induced hepatocellular carcinogenesis. Mechanistically, PTTG1 promoted asparagine synthetase (ASNS) transcription by binding to its promoter, and asparagine (Asn) levels were correspondingly increased. The elevated levels of Asn subsequently activated the mTOR pathway to facilitate HCC progression. In addition, asparaginase treatment reversed the proliferation induced by PTTG1 overexpression. Furthermore, HBx promoted ASNS and Asn metabolism by upregulating PTTG1 expression. Overall, PTTG1 is involved in the reprogramming of Asn metabolism to promote HCC progression and may serve as a therapeutic and diagnostic target for HCC., Significance: PTTG1 is upregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma and increases asparagine production to stimulate mTOR activity and promote tumor progression., (©2023 American Association for Cancer Research.)

The synthesis of furan-based platform chemicals from abundant and renewable biomass-based hexoses plays an important role in the development and utilization of biomass energy. The electrochemical 5-hydroxymethylfurfural oxidation reaction (HMFOR) represents a promising route for synthesizing the 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) product which is a high value-added biomass-based monomer. Interface engineering is an effective strategy to adjust the electronic structure, optimize the adsorption of intermediates, and expose more active sites, thus attracting extensive attention for designing efficient HMFOR electrocatalysts. Herein, a NiO/CeO 2 @NF heterostructure with an abundant interface is designed for boosting the HMFOR performance under alkaline conditions. At 1.475 V vs. RHE, the conversion of HMF is nearly 100%, the selectivity of FDCA is 99.0%, and the faradaic efficiency is as high as 98.96%. The NiO/CeO 2 @NF electrocatalyst also exhibits robust stability for HMFOR for 10 cycles. When coupled with the cathode hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline medium, the yields of FDCA and hydrogen production are 197.92 and 600 μmol cm -2 h -1 , respectively. The NiO/CeO 2 @NF catalyst is also suitable for the electrocatalytic oxidation of other biomass-derived platform compounds. The abundant interface between NiO and CeO 2 , which can regulate the electronic properties of Ce and Ni atoms, improve the oxidation state of Ni species, regulate intermediate adsorption, and promote electron/charge transfer, makes the most contribution to high HMFOR performance. This work will provide a simple route for the design of heterostructured materials and reveal the application prospect of interface engineering for promoting the upgrading of biomass derivatives.

Although commonly used in orthopedic surgery, bone cements often face a high risk of post-operative infection. Developing bone cement with antibacterial capability is an effective path for eliminating implant-associated infections. Herein, the potential of silver ions (Ag + ) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in modifying CPC for long-term antibacterial property was investigated. Ag + ions or AgNPs of various concentrations were incorporated in starch-modified calcium phosphate bone cement (CPB) to obtain Ag + -containing (Ag + @CPB) and AgNPs-containing (AgNP@CPB) bone cements. The results showed that all silver-containing CPBs had setting times of about 25-40 min, compressive strengths of greater than 22 MPa, high cytocompatibility but inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus growth. After soaking for 1 week, the mechanical properties and the cytocompatibility of all cements revealed no significant changes, but only CPB with a relatively high content of Ag + (H-Ag + @CPB) maintained good antibacterial capability over the tested time period. In addition, all the cements showed high injectability and interdigitating capability in cancellous bone and demonstrated augmentation effect on the cannulated pedicle screws fixation in the Sawbones model. In summary, the sustainable antibacterial capability and enhanced biomechanical properties demonstrated that Ag + ions were more suitable for the fabrication of antibacterial CPC compared to AgNPs. Objective: To assess the diagnostic value of the Copenhagen index for ovarian malignancy., Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, Embase, CBM, CNKI, and WanFang databases were searched throughout June 2021. Statistical analyses were performed using Stata 12, Meta-DiSc, and RevMan 5.3. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic odds ratio were calculated, the summary receiver operating characteristic curve was drawn, and the area under the curve was calculated., Results: Ten articles, including 11 studies with a total of 5266 patients, were included. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic odds ratio were 0.82 [95% CI (0.80-0.83)], 0.88 [95% CI (0.87-0.89)], and 57.31 [95% CI (32.84-100.02)], respectively. Background: Berberine effectively alleviates non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Nevertheless, the mechanism is incompletely comprehended. It has been reported that SIRT1 mediates lipid metabolism in liver and berberine promotes the expression of SIRT1 in hepatocytes. We hypothesized that SIRT1 mediated the effect of berberine on NAFLD., Methods: The effects of berberine on NAFLD were evaluated in C57BL/6J mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD) and in mouse primary hepatocytes and cell lines exposed to palmitate. The change of fatty acid oxidation (FAO) and the activity of CPT1A were observed in HepG2 cells. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot were employed to observe the expression of SIRT1 and lipid metabolism-related molecules. The interaction between SIRT1 and CPT1A was investigated by using co-immunoprecipitation assay in HEK293T cells., Results: Berberine treatment attenuated hepatic steatosis, reduced triglyceride (190.1 ± 11.2 μmol/g liver vs 113.6 ± 7.6 μmol/g liver, P <  0.001) and cholesterol (11.3 ± 2.5 μmol/g liver vs 6.3 ± 0.4 μmol/g liver, P <  0.001) concentration in the liver, and improved lipid and glucose metabolism disorders compared with the HFD group. The expression of SIRT1 was reduced in the liver of NAFLD patients and mouse models. Berberine increased the expression of SIRT1 and promoted the protein level of CPT1A and its activity in HepG2 cells. SIRT1 overexpression mimicked the effect of berberine on reducing triglyceride levels in HepG2 cells, whereas SIRT1 knock-down attenuated the effect of berberine. Mechanistically, berberine increased the expression of SIRT1 . SIRT1 deacetylated CPT1A at the Lys675 site, which suppressed its ubiquitin-dependent degradation, thereby promoting FAO and alleviating non-alcoholic liver steatosis., Conclusions: Berberine promoted SIRT1 deacetylation of CPT1A at the Lys675 site, which reduced the ubiquitin-dependent degradation of CPT1A and ameliorated non-alcoholic liver steatosis., Competing Interests: None declared., (© The Author(s) 2023. Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) are a notoriously known class of compounds that stand amongst the most wide-spread persistent organic pollutants. Therefore, their reliable, repeatable, and reproducible quantitative analysis using well-defined reference standards is of utmost importance. In view of the increasing demand for constitutionally and stereochemically defined CP standards, we have synthesized a stereoisomeric mixture of 3,4,7,8-tetrachlorodecane. One stereoisomer - (3 R ,4 R ,7 S ,8 S )-3,4,7,8-tetrachlorodecane was separated from the mixture, and enriched fractions of residual stereoisomers were achieved through crystallisation of the residual mother liquors. The molecular structure of the single isolated stereoisomer was confirmed through single-crystal X-ray crystallographic data. One fraction of 3,4,7,8-tetrachlorodecane stereoisomers was successfully separated on a chiral stationary phase using supercritical fluid chromatography hyphenated to mass spectrometry (column: Chiral ART Amylose-C; mobile phase: CO 2 /MeOH (96/4 v/v) with 0.1% diethylamine). Land utilization of the biogas residue (BR) produced by anaerobic co-digestion of gentamicin mycelial residues (GMRs) and wheat straw is a promising method to achieve the deep recycling of GMRs. This study evaluated the feasibility and efficacy of application of using BR as a soil amendment by using a pot experiment. Results indicated that BR could improve the soil fertility better than commercial chicken manure fertilizer (CMF) in terms of the soil enzyme activities and nutrients supply. Random Forest (RF) model was applied to predict soil enzyme activities and identify key influencing factors. Combining the Random Forest (RF) model with the Three-dimensional Excitation-emission Matrix and Parallel Factor (3D-EEM-PARAFAC) analysis, revealing that humic-like substances provided by BR protected soil enzymes, thus improving soil fertility. Furthermore, gentamicin and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs)/mobile genetic elements (MEGs) introduced by BR decreased greatly after cultivation, implying a low risk of antimicrobial resistance. Liquid-electrolyte-laden metal-organic frameworks (LE-laden MOFs) are promising quasi-solid electrolytes (QSEs) for metal-anode batteries. To achieve a high ionic conductivity, considerable efforts have been devoted to designing continuous and compact LE-laden MOF layers. Surprisingly, in this work, an extraordinarily high ionic conductivity (1.02 mS cm -1 ) is observed in an LE-laden MOF electrolyte with abundant interstices and cracks. Herein, various macroscopic and mesoscopic pore structures of Li-LE-laden HKUST-1 QSEs are prepared via morphology control and different cold-pressing procedures. Thereinto, Li-LE-laden cuboctahedron HKUST-1 prepared under 150 MPa cold-pressing with an optimal hierarchical pore structure (Li-Cuboct-H) exhibits the highest ambient ionic conductivity (1.02 mS cm -1 ). It is found that interstices and cracks in electrolytes construct a set of interconnected Li-LE networks with innate MOF channels and facilitate Li + transfer in the hybrid ion-transport pathways. The Li/LiFePO 4 cells based on Li-Cuboct-H deliver a splendid capacity retention of 93% over 210 cycles at 1 C. Meanwhile, the high ionic conductivities (higher than 10 -4 S cm -1 ) can be achieved in different ion conductor systems (Na, Mg, and Al) under the same guideline. Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Cough variant asthma (CVA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by cough as the main symptom. Suhuang antitussive capsule (Suhuang), one of traditional Chinese patent medicines, mainly treats CVA clinically. Previous studies have shown that Suhuang significantly improved CVA, post-infectious cough (PIC), sputum obstruction and airway remodeling. However, the effect of Suhuang on ovalbumin-induced (OVA-induced) metabolic abnormalities in CVA is unknown., Aim of the Study: This study aimed to identify potential metabolites associated with efficacy of Suhuang in the treatment of CVA, and determined how Suhuang regulates metabolites, and differential metabolites reduce inflammation and oxidative stress., Materials and Methods: Rats were given 1 mg OVA/100 mg aluminum hydroxide in the 1st and 7th days by intraperitoneal injection and challenged by atomizing inhalation of 1% OVA saline solution after two weeks to establish the CVA model. Rats were intragastrically (i.g.) administrated with Suhuang at 1.4 g/kg and β-hydroxybutyric acid (β-HB) were given with different concentrations (87.5 and 175 mg/kg/day) by intraperitoneal injection for 2 weeks. After 26 days, GC-MS-based metabolomic approach was applied to observe metabolic changes and search differential metabolites. The number of coughs, coughs latencies, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), histological analysis and quantitative-polymerase chain reaction (Q-PCR) were used to investigate the effects of Suhuang. Then β-HB on CVA rats, NLRP3 inflammasome and GSK3β/AMPK/Nrf2 signalling pathway were detected by western blotting., Results: The results showed that Suhuang treatment significantly enhanced the serum level of β-HB. Interestingly, exposure to exogenous β-HB was also protective against OVA-induced CVA. β-HB significantly reduced the number of coughs and lengthened coughs latencies, improved lung injury, reduced the secretion of various cytokines, and directly inhibited the NLRP3 inflammasome. In addition, β-HB increased the nuclear accumulation of Nrf2 by activating the GSK3β/AMPK signaling axis, and then inactivating the NF-κB signaling pathway, effectively protecting OVA-induced CVA from oxidative stress and inflammation., Conclusions: The results of this study shows that β-HB can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, the increased production of β-HB in serum might be the crucial factor for Suhuang to exert its effect in the treatment of CVA., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare no conflict of interest related to this paper., (Copyright © 2022. Aspochalasin D (AD) belongs to the polyketide-amino acid hybrid natural products with anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, and anti-fouling bioactivities. However, the low production limits its further application. In this study, AD was separated and identified from Aspergillus flavipes 3.17641. Next, besides the optimization of culture conditions using a single-factor experiment and response surface methodology, metabolic engineering was employed to increase the AD production. It shows that the deletion of the shunt gene aspoA and overexpression of the pathway-specific regulator aspoG significantly improve the AD production. Its production reached to 812.1 mg/L under the optimized conditions, with 18.5-fold increase. Therefore, this study not only provides a general method for improving the production of similar natural products in other fungi, but also enables the further biological function development of AD in agriculture and pharmaceutical.
