The elimination of dyes discharged from industrial wastewater into water bodies is crucial due to its detrimental effects on aquatic organisms and potential carcinogenic impact on human health. Various methods are employed for dye removal, but they often fall short in completely degrading the dyes and generating large amounts of suspended solids. Hence, there is a critical need for an efficient process that can achieve complete dye degradation with minimal waste emission. Among traditional water treatment approaches, photocatalysis stands out as a promising method for degrading diverse toxic and organic pollutants present in wastewater. In this review, the heterogeneous photocatalysis process is well explained for dye removal. This comprehensive review not only provides insightful illumination on the classification of dyes but also thoroughly explains various dye removal methods and the underlying mechanisms of photocatalysis. Furthermore, factors which effect the activity of the photocatalysis process are also explained in detail. Likewise, we categorized the heterogeneous photocatalyst in three generations and observed their activity for dye removal. This review also addresses the challenges and effectiveness of this promising field. The catalyst's composition and rationally designed structure is significantly interlinked with its performance for wastewater remediation. Here, a novel hollow cobalt phosphides/carbon (HCoP/C) as an efficient catalyst for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) was prepared. The ZIF-67 was synthesized first, followed by phytic acid (PA) etching and then heat treatment was used to get HCoP/C. The PA was used as an etching agent and a source of phosphorus to prepare HCoP/C. To analyze catalytic performance, another solid cobalt phosphides/carbon (SCoP/C) catalyst was prepared for comparison. In contrast to SCoP/C, the HCoP/C exhibited higher catalytic efficiency when used to activate PMS to degrade Bisphenol A (BPA). The results showed that about 98 % of targeted pollutant BPA was removed from the system in 6 min with a rate constant of 0.78 min -1 , which was 4 times higher than the solid structure catalyst. The higher catalytic performance of HCoP/C is attributed to its hollow structure. In the study, other parameters such as BPA concentration, temperature, pH, and different catalyst amount were also tested. Environmental degradation and energy constraint are important risks to long-term sustainability in the modern world. Water splitting is a vital approach for environmentally friendly and sustainable energy storage, providing a clean way to produce hydrogen without pollutants. Preparing a catalyst that is active, bifunctional, and durable for water splitting is a difficult task. We addressed the difficulty by creating a bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst, MoS 2 /rGO, with an ideal weight percentage of 5 wt% by a hydrothermal process. The optimized sample showed exceptional electrocatalytic activity, requiring an overpotential of 242 mV and 120 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm -2 in the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) and Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER). Furthermore, our synthesized catalyst was validated for its exceptional water-splitting capacity, with the optimized sample showing low Tafel slope values of 59 mV dec -1 for HER and 171 mV dec -1 for OER. The versatile uses of Copper(II) Fluoride (CuF2) are well known; these include its usage as a precursor in chemical synthesis as well as its contribution to the creation of sophisticated materials and electronics. There are interesting opportunities to study the interactions between these elements because of their unique crystal structure, which contains copper ions and fluoride anions. Its potential in optoelectronic devices and conductive qualities also make it a viable material for next-generation technologies. To better understand the structural properties of CuF2 and how they affect its entropy, we present new Zagreb indices in this study and use them to calculate entropy measures. We also build a regression model to clarify the relationship between the calculated indices and entropy levels. The findings of our investigation offer significant understanding regarding the ability of the suggested Zagreb indices to extract meaningful content and their correlation with entropy in the context of CuF2. Drilling fluids are an essential component of drilling operations in the oil and gas industry. Nanotechnology is being used to develop advanced drilling fluid additives. This study looked at the viability of synthesizing SiO 2 /g-C 3 N 4 hybrid extending the Stober process followed by its addition in different concentrations to water-based drilling fluids and studying impact on the rheological and fluid loss properties of the fluids. The synthesized hybrid was analyzed using XRD, SEM, TGA, and FTIR. Subsequently, it was used to develop the water-based drilling mud formulations and subjected to measurements in accordance with API standard practices. The studies were carried out at various SiO 2 /g-C 3 N 4 nanoparticle concentrations under before hot rolling (BHR) and after hot rolling (AHR) conditions. The outcomes demonstrated that the rheological and fluid loss properties were enhanced by the addition of SiO 2 /g-C 3 N 4 nanoparticles, as it worked in synergy with other additives. Additionally, it was discovered that the nanoparticles improved the drilling fluid thermal stability. The experimental findings indicate a significant influence of SiO 2 /g-C 3 N 4 nanoparticles on base fluid properties including rheology and fluid loss as the most remarkable, especially at higher temperatures. The significant improvements in yield point and 10 s gel strength were 55 and 42.8% under BHR and 216 and 140% under AHR conditions, respectively. Permeability plugging test (PPT) fluid loss was reduced by 69.6 and 87.2% under BHR and AHR conditions, respectively, when 0.5 lb/bbl nanoparticles were used in formulations. Electrochemical water splitting for sustainable hydrogen and oxygen production have shown enormous potentials. However, this method needs low-cost and highly active catalysts. Traditional nano catalysts, while effective, have limits since their active sites are mostly restricted to the surface and edges, leaving interior surfaces unexposed in redox reactions. Single atom catalysts (SACs), which take advantage of high atom utilization and quantum size effects, have recently become appealing electrocatalysts. Strong interaction between active sites and support in SACs have considerably improved the catalytic efficiency and long-term stability, outperforming their nano-counterparts. This review's first section examines the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) and the Oxygen Evolution Reaction (OER). In the next section, SACs are categorized as noble metal, non-noble metal, and bimetallic synergistic SACs. In addition, this review emphasizes developing methodologies for effective SAC design, such as mass loading optimization, electrical structure modulation, and the critical role of support materials. Finally, Carbon-based materials and metal oxides are being explored as possible supports for SACs. Importantly, for the first time, this review opens a discussion on waste-derived supports for single atom catalysts used in electrochemical reactions, providing a cost-effective dimension to this vibrant research field. Proteosomes (P) based on milk fat globule membrane's phospholipids (MPs), whey protein isolate (WPI) and sodium caseinate (CasNa) were developed by ultrasonication to encapsulate β-carotene. Entirely milk-ingredients based proteosomes (WPI-MPs-P and CasNa-MPs-P) revealed homogenous distribution with size diameters < 250 nm. WPI-MPs-P depicted positive ζ-potential values (+15.7 ± 0.5 mV), while CasNa-MPs-P demonstrated negative (-32.5 ± 3.4 mV) values of surface charge, respectively and hydrophilic nature of proteosomes was observed by measuring contact-angle (θ). AFM and SEM exhibited spherical to oval and slightly irregular morphology of nanocarriers. For various concentrations of β-carotene, the highest encapsulation efficiency of β-carotene was 90 ± 0.2% and 92 ± 0.8% in WPI-MPs-P and CasNa-MPs-P respectively. FTIR analyses confirmed the hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions-based encapsulation of β-carotene. Beneficial antioxidant-potential of β-carotene was retained after its encapsulation in the proteosomes. Proteosomes increased the digestive-stability (>50%) and bioaccessibility (>85%) of β-carotene. Development of membrane with improved carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) gas separation capability is a significant challenge. However, the fabrication of membrane that efficiently separate and purification CO 2 -containing gases has been the focus of global attention. Cellulose Acetate (CA) has robust reinforcing characteristics when incorporated within a suitable polymer matrix. This work focus on the synthesis of novel mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) by introducing Graphene-grafted bimetallic MOFs in Cellulose Acetate polymer. The graphene-grafted bimetallic MOF (GG-BM MOFs) was prepared by a hydrothermal technique. Whereas, the solution casting approach used to fabricate membranes. The 1-5 wt% of GG-BM MOFs incorporated into the CA matrix. The mechanical, hydrophilicity and adsorption characteristics of fabricated MMMs were investigated. The crystallinity of MMM enhanced after the addition of GG-BM MOFs. In addition, the mechanical characteristics of MMMs were improved with the incorporation of GG-BM MOFs inside the polymer matrix. Maximum stress and strain was obtained for 2 wt% MMM (36.4 N/mm 2 and 11% respectively). The CO 2 adsorption performance was evaluated at 10 bar and 45 °C. The FTIR results represent insignificant bond shifting with the addition GG-BM MOFs at these conditions. The overall results showed that MMMs containing 2 wt% GG-BM MOFs have good adsorption properties for CO 2 i.e 3.15 wt% of CO 2 . The MMMs have shown a decrease in the mechanical properties and CO 2 adsorption at the higher GG-BM MOFs loading due to the presence of agglomeration which was confirmed through SEM. Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) containing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been an emerging and promising membrane technology to contribute to different gas separation applications including carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and oxygen (O 2 ) separation, because of their large surface areas and distinctive gas adsorption features. In this work, the fabrication process of Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-based MMMs was reported, in which 0.5 to 2 wt.% of each type of (Cu, Ni)-based MOF-74 variants were incorporated into a PDMS matrix in order to achieve high CO 2 /N 2 , O 2 /N 2 , and CO 2 /O 2 separation efficiency. These MMMs and their nanofillers (MOF-74) were extensively characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) along with Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX) mapping, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), a single gas permeation testing system, and an ultimate tensile strength testing (UTS) unit in order to gain insight into their properties in relation to their gas separation performance. The 1 wt.% of both (Cu and Ni)-MOF-74@PDMS were selected as the most optimum MMMs due to their uniform morphology and enhanced tensile strength, which exhibited high CO 2 permeabilities of 4432 Barrer (37.9% increase) and 4288 Barrer (33.5% increase), respectively. Furthermore, in the case of 1 wt.% Ni-MOF-74@PDMS, the CO 2 /N 2 , O 2 /N 2 , and CO 2 /O 2 selectivities were also enhanced to 36.2 (141.6% increase), 3.2 (21.9% increase), and 11.25 (98.1% increase), respectively. While, in the case of 1 wt.% Cu-MOF-74@PDMS the CO 2 /N 2 and O 2 /N 2 selectivities showed an increment up-to 94.7 (531.5% increase) and 6.47 (145% increase), respectively, Whereas, at 0.5 wt.%, Cu-MOF-74@PDMS showed the best CO 2 /O 2 selectivity of 25.26 (344.7% increase)., (© 2023. Designing of non-noble, cost-effective, sustainable catalysts for water splitting is essential for hydrogen production. In this research work, ZIF-67, g-C 3 N 4 , and their composite (1, 3, 5, 6, 8 wt% g-C 3 N 4 @ZIF-67) are synthesized, and various techniques, XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDX and BET are used to examine their morphological properties for electrochemical water-splitting. The linkage of ZIF-67 with g-C 3 N 4 synergistically improves the electrochemical kinetics. An appropriate integration of g-C 3 N 4 in ZIF-67 MOF improves the charge transfer between the electrode and electrolyte and makes it a suitable option for electrochemical applications. In alkaline media, the composite of ZIF-67 MOF with g-C 3 N 4 over a Ni-foam exhibits a superior catalyst activity for water splitting application. Significantly, the 3 wt% g-C 3 N 4 @ZIF67 composite material reveals remarkable results with low overpotential values of -176 mV@10 mA cm -2 , 152 mV@10 mA cm -2 for HER and OER. The catalyst remained stable for 24 h without distortion. The 3 wt% composite also shows a commendable performance for overall water-splitting with a voltage yield of 1.34 v@10 mA cm -2 . The low contact angle (54.4°) proves the electrocatalyst's hydrophilic nature. The zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) adsorbent and its composites are known to effectively remove organic dyes from aqueous environments. Here, we report a unique crystalline MoS 2 @ZIF-67 nanocomposite adsorbent for the efficient removal of methyl orange (MO) dye from an aqueous medium. In situ synthetic techniques were used to fabricate a well-crystalline MoS 2 @ZIF-67 nanocomposite, which was then discovered to be a superior adsorbent to its constituents. The successful synthesis of the nanocomposite was confirmed using XRD, EDX, FTIR, and SEM. The MoS 2 @ZIF-67 nanocomposite exhibited faster adsorption kinetics and higher dye removal efficiency compared with its constituents. The adsorption kinetic data matched well with the pseudo-second-order model, which signifies that the MO adsorption on the nanocomposite is a chemically driven process. The Langmuir model successfully illustrated the MO dye adsorption on the nanocomposite through comparing the real data with adsorption isotherm models. However, it appears that the Freundlich adsorption isotherm model was also in competition with the Langmuir model. According to the acquired thermodynamics parameters, the adsorption of MO on the MoS 2 @ZIF-67 nanocomposite surface was determined to be spontaneous and exothermic. The findings of this research open an avenue for using the MoS 2 @ZIF-67 nanocomposite to efficiently remove organic dyes from wastewater efflux.

Surface attributes of nanocarriers are crucial to determine their fate in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Herein, we have functionalized chitosan with biochemical moieties including rhamnolipid (RL), curcumin (Cur) and mannose (M). FTIR spectra of functionalized chitosan nanocarriers (FCNCs) demonstrated successful conjugation of M, Cur and RL. The functional moieties influenced the entrapment of model drug i.e., coumarin-6 (C6) in FCNCs with payload-hosting and non-leaching behavior i.e., >91 ± 2.5 % with negligible cumulative release of <2 % for 5 h in KREB, which was further verified in the simulated gastric and intestinal fluids. Consequently, substantial difference in the size and zeta potential was observed for FCNCs with different biochemical moieties. Scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy of FCNCs displayed well-dispersed and spherical morphology. In addition, in vitro cytotoxicity results of FCNCs confirmed their hemocompatibility. In the ex-vivo rat intestinal models, FCNCs displayed a time-dependent-phenomenon in cellular-uptake and adherence. However, apparent-permeability-coefficient and flux values were in the order of C6-RL-FCNCs > C6-M-FCNCs > C6-Cur-FCNCs = C6-CNCs > Free-C6. Furthermore, the transepithelial electrical resistance revealed the FCNCs mediated recovery of membrane-integrity with reversible tight junctions opening. The substantial quantity of Cr(VI) contaminants in the aqueous atmosphere is a major environmental fear that cannot be overlooked. For the first time, MXene and chitosan-coated polyurethane foam have been employed for wastewater treatment, including heavy metal ions (Cr (VI)) through a fixed-bed column study. It is also the most inexpensive, lightweight, and globally friendly material tested. The Mxene and chitosan-coated polyurethane foam hybrid materials were thoroughly investigated using FTIR (Fourier transform infrared), SEM (scanning electron microscope), XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and XRD (X-ray diffraction). The presence of the rough surface and the pore creation in the Mxene- MX 3 @CS 3 @PUF should rise its surface area, which is useful to interact the surface-active assembly of MX 3 @CS 3 @PUF and the Cr(VI) contaminations in the aqueous solution. With the help of the ion exchange mechanism and electrostatic contact, negatively charged MXene hexavalent ions were being adsorbed on the surface. MXene and chitosan have been coated on PUF foam in the form of three different layers, which shows the highest adsorption capacity, where up to ∼70% Cr (VI) was removed in the first 10 min and more than 60% elimination after 3 h when the metal ion concentration was 20 ppm. The electrostatic interaction between the negative charge MXene and the positive charge chitosan on the surface of PUF, which was absent in MX@PUF, is accountable for the high removal efficiency. Moebius syndrome (MBS) is a rare congenital cranial nerve disorder characterized by unilateral, bilateral symmetrical, or asymmetrical facial (VII) and abducens (VI) nerve palsies. Genetics and rhombencephalon vascular disturbances from intrauterine environmental exposures have been attributed to its development. It can present with various orofacial abnormalities. Although the diagnosis is purely clinical, certain characteristic features are present in the brain's images. With no cure, it is essential to devise management on a personalized basis. We discuss etiology, presentation, diagnostic approaches, and effective management in the existing literature. This comprehensive review examines the clinic-pathological aspects of Moebius syndrome. The authors employed the PUBMED base index to identify pertinent literature and reference it according to research keywords. Findings suggest the most popular etiology is the theory of intrauterine vascular disruption to the brainstem during embryogenesis, followed by the genetic hypothesis. Intrauterine environmental exposures have been implicated as potential risk factors. Facial and abducens nerve palsies are the most common presenting features. However, clinical manifestations of lower cranial nerves (IX, X, XI, XII) may be present with orthopedic anomalies and intellectual deficiencies. The diagnosis is clinical with minimal defined diagnostic criteria. Characteristic radiological manifestations involving the brainstem and cerebellum can be observed in imaging studies. With no definitive treatment options, a multidisciplinary approach is employed to provide supportive care. Despite radiological manifestations, Moebius syndrome is diagnosed clinically. Worldwide demand for oil, coal, and natural gas has increased recently because of odd weather patterns and economies recovering from the pandemic. By using these fuels at an astonishing rate, their reserves are running low with each passing decade. Increased reliance on these sources is contributing significantly to both global warming and power shortage problems. It is vital to highlight and focus on using renewable energy sources for power production and storage. This review aims to discuss one of the cutting-edge technologies, metal-air batteries, which are currently being researched for energy storage applications. A battery that employs an external cathode of ambient air and an anode constructed of pure metal in which an electrolyte can be aqueous or aprotic electrolyte is termed as a metal-air battery (MAB). Due to their reportedly higher energy density, MABs are frequently hailed as the electrochemical energy storage of the future for applications like grid storage or electric car energy storage. The demand of the upcoming energy storage technologies can be satisfied by these MABs. The usage of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in metal-air batteries as a bi-functional electrocatalyst has been widely studied in the last decade. Metal ions or arrays bound to organic ligands to create one, two, or three-dimensional structures make up the family of molecules known as MOFs. They are a subclass of coordination polymers; metal nodes and organic linkers form different classes of these porous materials. High-efficiency, sustainable, non-precious metal-based electrocatalysts with bifunctional catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are essential for metal-air batteries. In this research, a bifunctional electrocatalyst is developed by synthesizing a novel nanoporous vanadium oxide/carbon composite (NVC-900) through pyrolysis of a highly efficient vanadium metal-organic framework, MIL-101 (V). The fabrication process was conveniently carried out by pyrolyzing the synthesized MIL-101 (V) at 900 °C, producing vanadium oxide nanoparticles embedded in the extensively distributed pores of the carbon network. The evenly distributed nanopores substantially improve the performance of the efficient electrocatalyst for both the oxygen reduction reaction and oxygen evolution reactions (ORR/OER) by increasing surface area and facilitating access to stable catalytic active sites. The unique structure was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). For oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), the electrocatalyst established a promising limiting current density ( J L ) of 5.2 mA cm -2 at 1600 rpm at an onset potential of 1.18 V and a half-wave potential of 0.82 V, and for OER, a current density of 10 mA cm -2 was delivered at a potential of 1.48 V. In comparison to 10% Pt/C, the synthesized bifunctional electrocatalyst being almost equally active towards bifunctional activity, showed much better long-term cyclic stability. Membrane-based gas separation has a great potential for reducing environmentally hazardous carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) gas. The polymeric membranes developed for CO 2 capturing have some limitations in their selectivity and permeability. There is a need to overcome these issues and developed such membranes having high-performance CO 2 capture with cost-effectiveness. The present study aimed to synthesize mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) having improved properties CO 2 adsorption performance and stability than that of pure polymer. Further, the effect on CO 2 adsorption by increasing the filler concentration in MMMs was investigated. The MMMs were synthesized by incorporating (1-5 wt%) Cu-MOF-GO composites as filler into cellulose-acetate (CA) polymer matrix by adopting the solution casting method. The performance of MMMs was studied by changing the Cu-MOF-GO composite concentration (1-5 wt%) in the polymer matrix at 45 °C up to 15 bar. Morphological analysis by using SEM confirms that by increasing the concentration of Cu-MOF-GO more than 3% will result in their agglomeration in MMM. The successful incorporation of MOF within the polymer matrix of MMMs was confirmed through the presence of functional groups using FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. XRD analysis revealed that pure CA changes its semi-crystalline behaviour into crystalline by the addition of Cu-MOF-GO. The maximum tensile stress and strain rate of MMMs was 45.1 N/mm 2 and 12.8%. In addition, with an increase in (4-5 wt%) Cu-MOF-GO concentration the hydrophilicity of MMMs decreases. The maximum uptake rate of CO 2 was 1.79 mmol/g and 7.98 wt% at 15 bar. Biogas up-gradation is a useful method to control CO 2 emission and enhance the green process. The demand for renewable sources is increasing due to the depletion of fossil fuels. Thin-film nanocomposites functionalized with tunable molecular-sieving nanomaterials have been employed to tailor membranes with enhanced permeability and selectivity. In this work, the cellulose nanocrystals as a filler in the polyvinyl alcohol matrix are prepared to achieve high-performance facilitated transport membranes for CO 2 capture. Considering the mechanical stability, interfacial compatibility and high moisture uptake of the filler, the main objective of this work was to develop a novel aminated CNC (Am-CNC)/polyvinyl alcohol nanocomposite membrane for biogas upgrading. The hydroxyl groups (O-H) on the reducing end of the cellulose nanocrystals were replaced by amino groups (N-H 2 ). It was discovered through Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) that adding Am-CNCs in PVA membranes shows an increment in the CO 2 removal and effectively upgrades the biogas. The effect of change in concentration of Am-CNC and feed pressure was investigated. The results showed that with increasing Am-CNC concentration up to 1.5 wt%, the thickness of the selective membrane layer increased from 0.95 to 1.9 μm with a decrease in the moisture uptake from 85.04 to 58.84%. However, the best CO 2 permeance and selectivity were achieved at 0.306 m 3 /m 2 .bar.h (STP) and 33.55, respectively. Furthermore, there was a more than two-fold decrease in CO 2 permeance and a 27% decrease in the CO 2 /CH 4 selectivity when the feed pressure increased from 5 to 15 bar. The continuous carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) gas emissions associated with fossil fuel production, valorization, and utilization are serious challenges to the global environment. Therefore, several developments of CO 2 capture, separation, transportation, storage, and valorization have been explored. Consequently, we documented a comprehensive review of the most advanced strategies adopted in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for CO 2 capture and separation. The enhancements in CO 2 capture and separation are generally achieved due to the chemistry of MOFs by controlling pore window, pore size, open-metal sites, acidity, chemical doping, post or pre-synthetic modifications. The chemistry of defects engineering, breathing in MOFs, functionalization in MOFs, hydrophobicity, and topology are the salient advanced strategies, recently reported in MOFs for CO 2 capture and separation. Therefore, this review summarizes MOF materials' advancement explaining different strategies and their role in the CO 2 mitigations. With the apparent stagnation in the antibiotic discovery and the propagation of multidrug resistance, Helicobacter pylori associated gastric infections are hard to eradicate. In pursuance of alternative medicines, in this study, covalent modification of chitosan (CS) polymer with curcumin (Cur) was accomplished. Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy elucidated the covalent interaction between Cur and CS with characteristic peak of imine functional group (C=N). Scanning Electron Microscopy provided visual proof for surface topology, while size and zeta potential values further affirmed the development of curcumin functionalized chitosan nanosystems (Cur-FCNS). The complexation efficiency of CS with Cur was found as 70 ± 3% at an optimal ratio of 5:1 for CS and Cur, respectively. Cur-FCNS developed with ionic gelation and ultrasonication method demonstrated synergistic anti-H. pylori activity in growth-kinetics and anti-biofilm assays, which was superior to free Cur and even chitosan nanosystems. Under simulated gastric conditions, Cur-FCNS revealed cumulative-release of only 16 ± 0.8% till 40 h, which indicated its improved stability to interact with H. pylori. In silico findings affirmed high binding affinity of Cur-FCNS with multiple bacterial virulence factors. At present, plastic waste accumulation has been observed as one of the most alarming environmental challenges, affecting all forms of life, economy, and natural ecosystems, worldwide. The overproduction of plastic materials is mainly due to human population explosion as well as extraordinary proliferation in the global economy accompanied by global productivity. To meet the demands for more effective and ecofriendly food packaging strategies, the potential of nisin-loaded rhamnolipid functionalized nanofillers (rhamnosomes) has been explored after embedding in hydroxypropyl-methylcellulose (HPMC) and κ-carrageenan (κ-CR)-based packaging films. It was observed that intrinsically active rhamnosomes based nanofillers greatly improved the mechanical and optical properties of nano-active packaging (NAP) films. Incorporation of rhamnosomes resulted in higher tensile strength (5.16 ± 0.06 MPa), Young's modulus (2777 ± 0.77 MPa), and elongation (2.58 ± 0.03%) for NAP than active packaging containing free nisin (2.96 ± 0.03 MPa, 1107 ± 0.67 MPa, 1.48 ± 0.06%, respectively). NAP demonstrated a homogenous distribution of nanofillers in the biopolymer matrix as elucidated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) confirmed that NAP prepared with nisin-loaded rhamnosomes was thermally stable even above 200 °C. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses revealed that addition of nisin in nanofillers resulted in a slight increase in Tg (108.40 °C), indicating thermal stability of NAP. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) revealed slight shift in all characteristic bands of nano-active packaging, which indicated the embedding of rhamnosomes inside the polymer network without any chemical interaction. Finally, when tested on chicken breast filets and cheese slices under refrigerated storage conditions, NAP demonstrated broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity (up to 4.5 log unit reduction) and inhibited the growth of Listeria monocytogenes , Staphylococcus aureus , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , and Escherichia coli . Semiconductor-based photocatalysts have attracted a lot of interest due to their environmental friendliness and high stability. Waste cooking oil can be converted to biodiesel by the process of transesterification. A TiO 2 /g-C 3 N 4 combination was prepared by using a wet impregnation process. The photocatalyst was analyzed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy (EDX), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis). For effective transesterification, WCO was collected and acid-esterified to reduce the FFA concentration (below 3%). For the transesterification reaction, esterified WCO was used and the reactions were carried out under solar irradiation at 60 °C with an oil to methanol ratio of 1 : 9 and stirred for 1 hour, using different TiO 2 /g-C 3 N 4 catalysts (10, 20 & 30%) with different catalyst concentrations of 1%, 2% and 3%. The results showed that TiO 2 /20% g-C 3 N 4 with 2% catalyst concentration gives the highest yield of biodiesel production (89.5%) as compared to other catalyst concentrations used. In addition to (FTIR), additional fuel characteristics such as density, viscosity, flashpoint, acid value, and pH were tested to determine the quality of the generated biodiesel and were found to comply with fuel standards. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with efficient surface and structural properties have risen as a distinctive class of porous materials through the last few decades, which has enabled MOFs to gain attention in a wide range of applications like drug delivery, gas separation and storage, catalysis and sensors. Likewise, they have also emerged as efficient active materials in energy storage devices owing to their remarkable conducting properties. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have garnered great interest in high-energy-density rechargeable batteries and super-capacitors. Herein the study presents their expanding diversity, structures and chemical compositions which can be tuned at the molecular level. It also aims to evaluate their inherently porous framework and how it facilitates electronic and ionic transportation through the charging and discharging cycles of lithium-ion batteries. In this review we have summarized the various synthesis paths to achieve a particular metal-organic framework. This study focuses mainly on the implementation of metal-organic frameworks as efficient anode and cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) with an evaluation of their influence on cyclic stability and discharge capacity. In this work, the methanol oxidation reaction is investigated on Ni based metal organic frameworks (MOF) and its composites with biomass derived activated carbon. NiO-MOF and composites with activated carbon were synthesized using hydrothermal method. SEM, EDX, and XRD, FTIR, TGA techniques were used for characterization of composites. The electrochemical activity of catalysts for oxidation of methanol was tested using cyclic voltammetry (CV) in 1 M KOH and 3 M CH 3 OH on glassy carbon electrode in three electrode setup. The electrochemical performance shows the effect of activated carbon concentration on methanol oxidation. The electro-oxidation catalyzed by NiO-MOF with activated carbon (40 mg) composite exhibits a peak current density of 182.72 mA/cm 2 at 0.89 V potential with a scan rate of 50 mV/s making it a potential catalyst for electrocatalysis of methanol., (© 2021. Bio-nanocomposites-based packaging materials have gained significance due to their prospective application in rising areas of packaged food. This research aims to fabricate biodegradable packaging films based upon polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and starch integrated with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) or organic additives. MOFs offer unique features in terms of surface area, mechanical strength, and chemical stability, which make them favourable for supporting materials used in fabricating polymer-based packaging materials. zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) are one of the potential candidates for this application due to their highly conductive network with a large surface area and high porosity. Present research illustrates a model system based on ZIF-67 (C 8 H 10 N 4 Co) bearing 2-10 wt.% loading in a matrix of PVA/starch blend with or without pyrolysis to probe the function of intermolecular interaction in molecular packing, tensile properties, and glass transition process. ZIF-67 nanoparticles were doped in a PVA/starch mixture, and films were fabricated using the solution casting method. It was discovered through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) that addition of ZIF-67 and pyrolyzed ZIF-67 changed and enhanced the thermal stability of the membrane. Moreover, 2-10 wt.% loading of ZIF-67 effected the thermal stability, owing to an interlayer aggregation of ZIF-67. The membranes containing pyrolyzed ZIF-67 showed mechanical strength in the order of 25 MPa in a moderate loading of pyrolyzed ZIF-67 (i.e., at 4 wt.%). The crystallinity enhanced by an increment in ZIF-67 loading. On the other hand, pyrolyzed ZIF-67 carbon became amorphous because of the inert environment and elevated temperature. The surface area also increased after the pyrolysis, which helped to increase the strength of the composite films.

Present work comprehensively investigated the electrochemical response of Nickel-2 Aminoterephthalic acid Metal-Organic Framework (NiNH 2 BDC) and its reduced graphitic carbon (rGO) based hybrids for methanol (CH 3 OH) oxidation reaction (MOR) in an alkaline environment. In a thorough analysis of a solvothermally synthesized Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and its reduced graphitic carbon-based hybrids, functional groups detection was performed by FTIR, the morphological study by SEM, crystal structure analysis via XRD, and elemental analysis through XPS while electrochemical testing was accomplished by Chronoamperometry (CA), Cyclic Voltametric method (CV), Electrochemically Active Surface Area (EASA), Tafel slope (b), Electron Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Mass Activity, and roughness factor. Among all the fabricated composites, NiNH 2 BDC MOF/5 wt% rGO hybrid by possessing an auspicious current density (j) of 267.7 mA/cm 2 at 0.699 V (vs Hg/HgO), a Tafel slope value of 60.8 mV dec -1 , EASA value of 15.7 cm 2 , and by exhibiting resistance of 13.26 Ω in a 3 M CH 3 OH/1 M NaOH solution displays grander electrocatalytic activity as compared to state-of-the-art platinum-based electrocatalysts.

Water splitting is an important technology for alternative and sustainable energy storage, and a way for the production of hydrogen without generating pollution. In recent years, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have become the most capable multifunctional resources because of their high surface areas, tunable porosity, simple modification of compositions, and potential for use as precursors with a variety of morphological structures. Based on these qualities, many MOFs and their derived materials are utilized as electrocatalysts for the water splitting reaction. The human craving for energy is continually mounting and becoming progressively difficult to gratify. At present, the world's massive energy demands are chiefly encountered by nonrenewable and benign fossil fuels. However, the development of dynamic energy cradles for a gradually thriving world to lessen fossil fuel reserve depletion and environmental concerns is currently a persistent issue for society. The discovery of copious nonconventional resources to fill the gap between energy requirements and supply is the extreme obligation of the modern era. A new emergent, clean, and robust alternative to fossil fuels is the fuel cell. Among the different types of fuel cells, the direct ethanol fuel cell (DEFCs) is an outstanding option for light-duty vehicles and portable devices. The present study focused on investigating the effect of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO 2 NPs) on rice (Oryza sativa L.) growth and changes in soil health in two contrasting soil textures (silt-loam and clay). Moreover, response of rice to different methods of TiO 2 NPs application and phosphorous fertilizer levels were also evaluated. For toxicity assessment, pot experiment was carried out. TiO 2 NPs (0, 500, 750 mg kg -1 ) were applied and plants were grown till vegetative stage. After harvesting, physiological parameters, stress assay, soil microbial and enzymatic activities were determined. Based on the results of toxicity study, impact of three methods of TiO 2 NPs application (foliar, irrigation, soil) and four phosphorous fertilizer levels (0, 10, 20, 40 mg kg -1 ) on rice growth were assessed. During the 1st phase, results showed an adverse effect of TiO 2 NPs on plant growth and soil microorganisms in both soil textures at 750 mg kg -1 . The H 2 O 2 production, lipid peroxidation and leaf membrane injury index were increased by 4.3-, 2.4-, and 1.9-folds in clay soil upon 750 mg kg -1 TiO 2 NPs application. Likewise, at the same level of TiO 2 NPs; microbial biomass, dehydrogenase, and respiration were decreased by 0.91-, 0.79-, and 0.78- folds respectively. In 2nd phase, maximum shoot length, biomass, phosphorous uptake and rice grain protein content were observed under application of TiO 2 NPs (500 mg kg -1 ) through irrigation method in combination with 40 mg P kg -1 . However, 20 and 40 mg P kg -1 performed equally well upon TiO 2 NPs application and the results were not statistically significant. The results suggest that 750 mg kg -1 of TiO 2 NPs negatively affect plant growth and soil enzymatic activities. Cancer is a major stress for public well-being and is the most dreadful disease. The models used in the discovery of cancer treatment are continuously changing and extending toward advanced preclinical studies. Cancer models are either naturally existing or artificially prepared experimental systems that show similar features with human tumors though the heterogeneous nature of the tumor is very familiar. The choice of the most fitting model to best reflect the given tumor system is one of the real difficulties for cancer examination. Therefore, vast studies have been conducted on the cancer models for developing a better understanding of cancer invasion, progression, and early detection. These models give an insight into cancer etiology, molecular basis, host tumor interaction, the role of microenvironment, and tumor heterogeneity in tumor metastasis. These models are also used to predict novel cancer markers, targeted therapies, and are extremely helpful in drug development. In this review, the potential of cancer models to be used as a platform for drug screening and therapeutic discoveries are highlighted. Although none of the cancer models is regarded as ideal because each is associated with essential caveats that restraint its application yet by bridging the gap between preliminary cancer research and translational medicine. The present analysis focuses on the synthetic methods used for the application of supercapacitors with various mysterious architectures derived from zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs). ZIFs represent an emerging and unique class of metal-organic frameworks with structures similar to conventional aluminosilicate zeolites, consisting of imidazolate linkers and metal ions. Their intrinsic porous properties, robust functionalities, and excellent thermal and chemical stabilities have resulted in a wide range of potential applications for various ZIF materials. In this rapidly expanding area, energetic research activities have emerged in the past few years, ranging from synthesis approaches to attractive applications of ZIFs. In this analysis, the development of high-performance supercapacitor electrodes and recent strategies to produce them, including the synthesis of various heterostructures and nanostructures, are analyzed and summarized. This analysis goes via the ingenuity of modern science when it comes to these nanoarchitecture electrodes. Despite these significant achievements, it is still difficult to accurately monitor the morphologies of materials derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) because the induction force during structural transformations at elevated temperatures is in high demand. It is also desirable to achieve the direct synthesis of highly functionalized nanosized materials derived from zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) and the growth of nanoporous structures based on ZIFs encoded in specific substrates for the construction of active materials with a high surface area suitable for electrochemical applications. The latest improvements in this field of supercapacitors with materials formed from ZIFs as electrodes using ZIFs as templates or precursors are discussed in this review. This work presents the preparation of an efficient and sensitive glucose sensor for the detection of glucose in an alkaline media. The glucose sensor is composed of a metal organic framework (MOF) composite comprising Ag@TiO 2 nanoparticles. The hybrid of Ag@TiO 2 encapsulated in ZIF-67 was synthesized by the solvothermal method and applied onto a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for the non-enzymatic sensing of glucose. The porosity of ZIF-67 was favorable for the unhindered diffusion and entrapment of glucose and its cavities served as reaction vessels. The electrochemical behavior of Ag@TiO 2 @ZIF-67 showed amplified results when compared with that of Ag@TiO 2 and ZIF-67. Cyclic tests toward the oxidation of glucose has demonstrated excellent stability of a MOF-based hybrid sensor. Herein, we demonstrate effect of substituents on optoelectronic properties of discotic liquid crystals (DLCs) by using density functional theory (DFT) calculations at B3LYP/Lanl2Z level of theory. Three parent DLCs, namely, (1) benzene-1,3,5-triyl tris(3,5-dialkoxybenzoate), (2) N 1 , N 3 , N 5 -tris(3-alkoxyphenyl)benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamide, and (3) trialkyl 4, 4', 4″-(benzenetricarbonyltris (azanediyl)) tribenzoate benzoate and their -N and -S group derivatives of 1, 2, and 3, were investigated to observe the change in optoelectronic response of these systems. The frontier molecular orbital studies and electron affinity values indicate that the studied compounds are stable against the oxygen and moisture present in air. The calculated charge transfer integrals, electron, and hole mobility values revealed that parent DLCs and their derivatives can be employed as an effective n-type material for OLEDs; however, derivatives have enhanced charge transfer values compared with their parents. For better understanding of the thermochemistry and effect of substituents, frequency calculations were carried out. P 1 -D 4 derivative having R = -NH-CO-CH 3 terminal group came out to be theoretically the most favored having the lowest ΔG value. Computed UV/visible spectroscopic analysis showed minimum absorbance and maximum transmittance for derivative P 2 -D 1 having -S-NH 2 substituent. Molecular electrostatic potential surfaces mapped at potential range, i.e., - 8.531e-3esu to + 8.531e-3esu, describe electrophilic and nucleophilic characteristics. Introduction of electron donor groups enhanced electrical conductivity, excitation energy, and charge transfer integral, thus increasing optoelectronic properties of DLCs. However, these claims require further experimental verification.

In this work a novel bimetallic nickel oxide/copper oxide metal-organic framework (NiO/CuO MOF) has been developed by using two linkers: Benzene Dicarboxylic acid (BDC) and Pyrazine. The composites of NiO/CuO MOF with different amounts of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) were synthesized through a hydrothermal method and subsequently characterized by multiple significant techniques like XRD, SEM, EDX, FTIR and Raman IR for an investigation of their structural and morphological properties. The prepared series of material was later employed for electrochemical oxidation of methanol, tested by cyclic voltammetry (CV) in basic medium on a modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The electrochemical response depicts that increasing concentration of rGO enhances the electrocatalytic activity of the catalyst for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR). The catalyzed oxidation reaction of methanol by NiO/CuO MOF and rGO-NiO/CuO MOF composites give a superlative current density of 437. 28 mA/cm 2 at 0.9 V potential at 50 mV/s scan rate. This activity makes it a promising catalytic material for electrolysis of methanol in direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC).

Biofilm associated microbial resistance is a major concern in oral health and hygiene. Nano-antimicrobials (NAMs) having natural antibiotic replacers e.g. nisin are the possible solution to treat oral infections. In this study, we have developed pH responsive, mucoadhesive protein-polysaccharide [sodium caseinate (NaC)-sodium alginate (AL)] coacervate based nano-carrier systems (PPC-NCS) to prevent and eradicate oral biofilms associated pathogens e.g. Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Enterococcus faecalis. PPC-NCS were formed at pH 5 with highest encapsulation efficiency of 75.1 ± 1.2%, then at pH 6 (31 ± 1.1%) and 7 (15 ± 2%). SEM of PPC-NCS displayed smooth and round morphology. Particle size of PPC-NCS was observed to be 244 nm by DLS, with negative zeta potential (-47 ± 4.31 mV). In FTIR analysis, merging of OH stretching peak of NaC (2889.53 cm - 1) and CH stretching of AL (2920 cm -1 ) with appearance of a new peak at 2062 cm - 1 was observed that confirmed covalent and hydrogen bonding between two compounds. Antimicrobial and antibiofilm assays demonstrated better control of nisin loaded PPC-NCS against selected pathogens, while preventing and eradicating bacterial biofilms successfully without any cytotoxic effect. Oxygen electrocatalysis plays a crucial role in harnessing energy from modern renewable energy technologies like fuel cells and metal-air batteries. But high cost and stability issues of noble metal catalysts call for research on tailoring novel metal-organic framework (MOF) based architectures which can bifunctionally catalyze O 2 reduction and evolution reactions (ORR & OER). In this work, we report a novel manganese MOF @rGO nanocomposite synthesized using a facile self-templated solvothermal method. The nanocomposite is superior to commercial Pt/C catalyst both in material resource and effectiveness in application. A more positive cathodic peak ( E pc = 0.78 V vs. RHE), onset ( E onset = 1.09 V vs. RHE) and half wave potentials ( E 1/2 = 0.98 V vs. RHE) for the ORR and notable potential to achieve the threshold current density ( E @10 mA cm -2 = 1.84 V vs. RHE) for OER are features promising to reduce overpotentials during ORR and OER. Small Tafel slopes, methanol tolerance and acceptable short term stability augment the electrocatalytic properties of the as-prepared nanocomposite. Remarkable electrocatalytic features are attributed to the synergistic effect from the mesoporous 3D framework and transition metal-organic composition. Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) has a sodalite topology. ZIF-8 is composed of zinc ion coordinated by four imidazolate rings. The pore aperture of ZIF-8 is 3.4 Å, which readily retains large gas molecules like N 2 . In this work, mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) have been fabricated by utilizing ZIF-8 and pristine cellulose acetate (CA) for O 2 /N 2 separation. Membranes of pristine CA and MMMs of ZIF-8/CA at various ZIF-8 concentrations were prepared in tetrahydrofuran (THF). Permeation results of the fabricated membranes revealed increasing selectivity for O 2 /N 2 with increasing pressure as well as ZIF-8/CA concentration up to 5% (w/w). The selectivity of O 2 /N 2 increased 4 times for MMMs containing 5% (w/w) of ZIF-8/CA as compared with the pristine CA membrane. A thermodynamic model has also been developed to predict the permeability of gases through polymeric membranes. The results were compared with literature data as well as the pristine CA membrane produced in this work for model validation.

Synthesis of a compound with balanced bioactivities against a specific target is always a challenging task. In this study, a novel compound (1) has been synthesized by combination of flurbiprofen and isoniazide and shows ∼2.5 times enhanced acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition activity and ∼1.7 times improved butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) inhibition activity compared to flurbiprofen and a standard drug ( i.e. physostigmine). A comparative AutoDock study has been performed, based on the optimized structure, by the DFT/B3LYP method, which confirmed that compound (1) is more active against AChE and BuChE, with calculated binding energies of -12.9 kcal mol -1 and -9.8 kcal mol -1 respectively as compared to flurbiprofen and an eserine (physostigmine) standard for which the binding energy was calculated to be -10.1 kcal mol -1 and -8.9 kcal mol -1 , respectively. A mixed mode of inhibition of AChE and BuChE with compound 1 was confirmed by Lineweaver-Burk plots. AChE and BuChE inhibition activity alongside docking results suggests that compound (1) could be used for treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Moreover, compound (1) also exhibit better α-chymotrypsin activity compared to flurbiprofen. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on 2,5-dihydroxyterepthalic acid (DOBDC) as the linker show very high CO 2 uptake capacities at low to moderate CO 2 pressures; however, these MOFs often require expensive solvent for synthesis and are difficult to regenerate. We have synthesized a Mn-DOBDC MOF and modified it to introduce amine groups into the structure by functionalizing its metal coordination sites with ethylenediamine (EDA). Repeat framework synthesis was then also successfully performed using recycled dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent. Characterization by elemental analysis, FTIR and thermogravimetric studies suggest that EDA molecules are successfully substituting the original metal-bound DMF. This modification not only enhances the material's carbon dioxide sorption capacity, increasing stability to repeated CO 2 sorption cycles, but also improves the framework's stability to moisture. Moreover, this is one of the first amine-modified MOFs that can demonstrably be synthesized using recycled solvent, potentially reducing the future costs of production at larger scales., Competing Interests: We declare we have no competing interests., (© 2020 The Authors.)

In this study, protein/polysaccharide core-shell-corona (PP-CSC) nano delivery systems (NDS) were prepared by using bovine serum albumin (BSA) and chitosan (CS). The potential of PP-CSC-NDS for increasing the stability and bio-accessibility of ε-poly-l-lysine (ε-PL) as effective therapy for gastric Helicobacter pylori was investigated. The presence of CS-shell increased the size (223 ± 1.7 nm) of BSA-core as compared to BSA-shell on CS-core (191 ± 2.6 nm). Conversely, encapsulation efficiency of ε-PL was reduced for C(B)NDS [CS-shell on BSA-core] to 73 ± 1% than 82 ± 2% for B(C)NDS [BSA-shell on CS-core] due to cationic nature of ε-PL. Scanning electron microscopy of PP-CSC-NDS displayed smooth and non-flocculated morphology. FTIR analyses verified that the electrostatic interactions, H-bonding, and hydrophobic effects were involved in PP-CSC formation. Zeta analyses revealed that the net charge depends on the corona layer and the encapsulated antimicrobials. Moreover, CS corona improved the antimicrobial potential, controlled release, mucoadhesion and stability of ε-PL loaded C(B)NDS in simulated gastric fluid due to inherent antimicrobial and mucoadhesive properties of CS polymer. In contrast, protein corona improved the penetration into bacterial biofilms for better eradiation of H. pylori. Thus, conjugated nano-systems with selected corona can improve the overall efficacy of antimicrobials to develop effective nano-therapeutics against gastric infections., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier B.V. Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework (ZIF-67) was prepared in two different solvents-water and methanol. Nanoporous carbon was derived from ZIF-67 via pyrolysis in an inert atmosphere. Anion exchange step of sulfidation on the synthesized material has a great influence on the structure and properties. Structural morphology and thermal stability were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM)/energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis. The electrochemical analysis was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry, chronopotentiometry, and impedance analysis. The as-prepared nanoporous carbon and cobalt sulfide (NPC/CS) electrode material (water) in 2M KOH electrolyte solution exhibit high specific capacitance of 677 F/g. The excellent electrochemical performance of the NPC/CS was attributed to its hierarchical structure. This functionalized ZIF driven strategy paves the way to the preparation of various metal oxide and metal sulfide-based nanoheterostructures by varying the type of metal.

Herein we report a facile, efficient, low cost, and easily scalable route for an amine-functionalized MOF (metal organic framework) synthesis. Cu-BDC&sup;HMTA (HMTA = hexamethylenetetramine) has high nitrogen content and improved thermal stability when compared with the previously reported and well-studied parent Cu-BDC MOF (BDC = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate). Cu-BDC&sup;HMTA was obtained via the same synthetic method, but with the addition of HMTA in a single step synthesis. Thermogravimetric studies reveal that Cu-BDC&sup;HMTA is more thermally stable than Cu-BDC MOF. Cu-BDC&sup;HMTA exhibited a CO 2 uptake of 21.2 wt % at 273 K and 1 bar, which compares favorably to other nitrogen-containing MOF materials.

This study investigates the thermal decomposition, thermodynamic and kinetic behavior of rice-husk (R), sewage sludge (S) and their blends during co-pyrolysis using thermogravimetric analysis at a constant heating rate of 20 °C/min. Coats-Redfern integral method is applied to mass loss data by employing seventeen models of five major reaction mechanisms to calculate the kinetics and thermodynamic parameters. Two temperature regions: I (200-400 °C) and II (400-600 °C) are identified and best fitted with different models. Among all models, diffusion models show high activation energy with higher R 2 (0.99) of rice husk (66.27-82.77 kJ/mol), sewage sludge (52.01-68.01 kJ/mol) and subsequent blends (45.10-65.81 kJ/mol) for region I and for rice husk (7.31-25.84 kJ/mol), sewage sludge (1.85-16.23 kJ/mol) and blends (4.95-16.32 kJ/mol) for region II, respectively. Thermodynamic parameters are calculated using kinetics data to assess the co-pyrolysis process enthalpy, Gibbs-free energy, and change in entropy. Artificial neural network (ANN) models are developed and employed on co-pyrolysis thermal decomposition data to study the reaction mechanism by calculating Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and coefficient of determination (R 2 ). Food grade micro- or nano-carrier systems (NCS) are being developed to improve the controlled release of antimicrobial agents. To augment the stability of liposomal NCS and to overcome the limitations associated with the use of free bacteriocin (nisin) in the food system, multi-component colloidosomes (MCCS) were developed by electrostatic interactions between anionic alginate and cationic chitosan (multilayer) around phospholipids based liposomes (core). Zeta-sizer results revealed the average diameter of 145 ± 2 nm, 596 ± 3 nm, and 643 ± 5 nm for nano-liposome (NL), chitosomes (chitosan coated NL) and MCCS, respectively. Zeta potential values of NCS varied from -4.37 ± 0.16 mV to 33.3 ± 6 mV, thus both chitosomes (CS) and MCCS were positively charged. Microstructure analysis by scanning electron microscope (SEM) revealed relatively higher size of MCCS with smooth and round morphology. TGA and DSC based experiments revealed that MCCS were thermally more stable than uncoated liposomes. Encapsulation efficiency of nisin in MCCS was observed to be 82.9 ± 4.1%, which was significantly higher than NL (56.5 ± 2.5%). FTIR analyses confirmed the cross-linking between sodium alginate and chitosan layer. Both qualitative (growth kinetics) and quantitative (colony forming unit) antimicrobial assays revealed that nisin loaded MCCS have superior potential to control resistant foodborne pathogens including Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes , and Enterococcus faecalis , (5.8, 5.4, and 6.1 Log CFUmL -1 reduction, respectively) as compared to free nisin, loaded NL or CS. Controlled release kinetics data fitted with Korsmeyer-Peppas model suggested that nisin release from MCCS followed Fickian diffusion. Cytotoxic studies on human blood cells and HepG2 cell lines revealed hemocompatibility and non-toxicity of MCCS. Thus, due to enhanced controlled release, stability and biocompatibility; these multi-component colloidosomes can be useful for incorporating antimicrobial agents into functional foods, beverages and pharmaceutical products to combat pathogenic and spoilage bacteria.
