The Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood grant program is one of the most robust mechanisms supporting fatherhood programming in the United States, with the gold standard of care including fatherhood curriculum (e.g., 24/7 Dad®) and case management services. Despite the fact that fatherhood in the United States is not a monolith and Black fathers make up over 40% of those served through Responsible Fatherhood (RF) program, little research explicitly centers the lived experiences of low-income Black fathers. The current study used focus groups with fathers (n = 23) and staff (n = 8) enrolled in a RF grantee program. Thematic analysis was used to determine programmatic mechanisms supporting these fathers' success and areas for improvement. Our findings highlight that the creation of a "safe space" by facilitators and the power of the group dynamic were essential elements for fathers' success overall. We also identified numerous programmatic mechanisms supporting Black fathers' success specific to fathering, healthy relationships, and economic stability. Finally, we highlighted important limitations that may impede the success of low-income, Black fathers related to the 24/7 Dad® curriculum, engagement efforts, and economic stability, and discuss related practice, policy, and research recommendations., (© 2024 The Author(s). Dieldrin, an organochlorine pesticide (OCP) widely used for crop protection in the second half of the 20th century till the 70's, is worldwide still present in arable soils. It can be transferred to crops, notably cucurbits, depending on plant species and cultivars. Finding strategies to decrease OCP bioavailability in soil is therefore a main concern. Phytomanagement strategies could provide (i) ready-to-use short term solution for maintaining the production of edible plant parts with dieldrin concentrations below the Maximum Residue Limits (MRL) and (ii) long-term solution for dieldrin phytoextraction reducing progressively its bioavailability in the soil. This field study aimed at determining dieldrin accumulation capacities and allocation pattern in 17 non-Cucurbitaceae species and 10 Cucurbita pepo varieties, and assessing the dieldrin phytoextraction potential of these plant species when grown to maturity in a historically dieldrin-contaminated soil. Out of the non-Cucurbitaceae species, vetiver was the only one able to accumulate significant amounts of dieldrin, which mainly remained in its roots. All C. pepo varieties were able to uptake and translocate high dieldrin amounts into the shoots, leading to the highest phytoextraction potential. Despite the intraspecific variability in dieldrin concentration in zucchini plant parts, mainly in the reproductive organs, the phytoextraction capacity for shoots and fruits was high for all tested varieties (147 to 275 μg dieldrin plant -1 , corresponding to 5.6 % of the n-heptane extractable soil dieldrin), even for the one with low fruit dieldrin concentration. While it is necessary to provide « homelike » in nursing homes, the risk is to reduce it to decoration. As the aim is to reconcile care and home, we propose co-design, an approach involving users in the design of living spaces, as a solution. We propose tools and a protocol, then provide feedback from a workshop on co-designing a collective space with three residents in a nursing home in Île-de-France. We thoroughly analyse the contributions of the residents during the workshop, and then compare their proposals with the opinions of the nurses. We found that the workshop enabled participants to express concret needs that tended towards « homelike » proposals. The convergence of day-to-day expertise, through co-design, encourages design solutions that are suitable for everyone, while its role in mediation supports organisational change in the nursing home.

Introduction: For several decades, the rate of caesarean section (CS) has been increasing in the world. In some countries, the CS rate is below the WHO recommended range (10-15%), while in other countries, it is significantly higher. The aim of this paper was to identify individual and community-level factors associated with CS in Haiti., Methods: Secondary data analysis was conducted on nationally representative cross-sectional survey data from the 2016-2017 Haitian Demographic and Health Survey (HDHS). The analysis was restricted to 6303 children born in 5 years prior the survey (of the interviewed women). The study population' characteristics, and the prevalence of CS were analysed using descriptive analysis (univariate/bivariate). In addition, multilevel binary logistic regression analysis was performed to identify factors associated with CS. Both descriptive and multivariate analysis were conducted using STATA 16.0 software (Stata Corp, Tex, USA). Statistical significance was declared at p < 0.05., Results: The overall prevalence of CS delivery was estimated at 5.4% (95% CI 4.8-6.0) in Haiti. Results also revealed that mothers aged 35 and above (aOR = 1.38; 95% CI 1.00-1.96); who attended secondary (aOR = 1.95; 95% CI 1.39-2.76) and higher education level (aOR = 3.25; 95% CI 1.92-5.49); who were covered by health insurance (aOR = 2.57; 95% CI 1.57-4.19); with less than 3 children (aOR = 4.13; 95% CI 2.18-7.85) or 3-4 children (aOR = 2.07; 95% CI 1.09-3.94); who received 9 or more antenatal visits (aOR = 2.21; 95% CI 1.40-3.50) were significantly more likely to deliver by CS. Children in communities with high preponderance of private health facilities had greater odds to be delivered through CS (aOR = 1.90; 95% CI 1.25-2.85). Furthermore, children with an average birth weight (aOR = 0.66; 95% CI 0.48-0.91) were less likely to be delivered through CS than their counterparts with high birth weight., Conclusions: While the CS prevalence was low in Haiti, it masks significant geographic, social and economic disparities. Due to past agricultural practices, it is common to identify arable soils contaminated with persistent and potentially toxic organochlorine pesticides (OCPs). Occurrence of OCPs, including dieldrin, in vegetables can lead to chronic exposure of the consumers. Some market vegetables, particularly the Cucurbitaceae, are known to accumulate high OCP concentrations. Dieldrin concentration in Cucurbita fruits can exceed the Maximal Residue Limit (MRL) resulting in cultivation and sale restrictions for market gardeners. To assess the intra- and interspecific variability of Cucurbitaceae species for low dieldrin concentration in fruits could be a solution. Here, 24 varieties from seven Cucurbitaceae species were cultivated outdoors in large pots, until fruiting, in soils historically contaminated with dieldrin. More than 330 fruits were harvested and analyzed for determining the inter and intraspecific variability of dieldrin accumulation. Significant interspecific differences occurred with mean fruit concentration ranging between 4.2 ± 7.0 and 85.0 ± 19.4 μg dieldrin kg -1 fresh weigh (FW) in watermelons (C. lanatus L.) and cucumbers (C. sativus L.), respectively. Intraspecific differences only occurred for Cucurbita pepo L. with mean concentration ranging between 4.9 ± 1.1 and 70.3 ± 3.6 μg dieldrin kg -1 FW for the varieties Noire maraîchère and Orélia, respectively. Background: Seeking medical information can be an issue for physicians. In the specific context of medical practice, chatbots are hypothesized to present additional value for providing information quickly, particularly as far as drug risk minimization measures are concerned., Objective: This qualitative study aimed to elicit physicians' perceptions of a pilot version of a chatbot used in the context of drug information and risk minimization measures., Methods: General practitioners and specialists were recruited across France to participate in individual semistructured interviews. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using a horizontal thematic analysis approach., Results: Eight general practitioners and 2 specialists participated. The tone and ergonomics of the pilot version were appreciated by physicians. A veterinarian and pet owner survey (Project Jake) examined the use and safety of isoxazoline parasiticides given to dogs. Data were received during August 1-31, 2018 from a total of 2,751 survey responses. Forty-two percent (1,157) reported no flea treatment or adverse events (AE), while 58% (1594) had been treated with some parasiticide for flea control, and of those that received a parasiticide, the majority, or 83% (1,325), received an isooxazoline. When any flea treatment was given, AE were reported for 66.6% of respondents, with no apparent AE noted for 36.1%. Project Jake findings were compared to a retrospective analysis of publicly available Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Medicines Agency (EMA) reported AE. The number of total AE reported to FDA and EMA were comparable, although a 7 to 10 times higher occurrence of death and seizures was reported from the EMA or from outside the United States (US). Serious AE responses for death, seizures and neurological effects reported in our survey were higher than the FDA but moderately lower than the EMA reports. These sizable global data sets combined with this pre- and post-parasiticide administration survey indicated that isoxazoline neurotoxicity was not flea- and tick-specific. Post-marketing serious AE were much higher than in Investigational New Drug (IND) submissions. Although the labels have recently been updated, dogs, cats and their caregivers remain impacted by their use. Objective: To better understand the potential risks of Nipah virus emergence in Cambodia by studying different components of the interface between humans and bats., Methods: From 2012 to 2016, we conducted a study at two sites in Kandal and Battambang provinces where fruit bats ( Pteropus lylei ) roost. We combined research on: bat ecology (reproductive phenology, population dynamics and diet); human practices and perceptions (ethnographic research and a knowledge, attitude and practice study); and Nipah virus circulation in bat and human populations (virus monitoring in bat urine and anti-Nipah-virus antibody detection in human serum)., Findings: Our results confirmed circulation of Nipah virus in fruit bats (28 of 3930 urine samples positive by polymerase chain reaction testing). We identified clear potential routes for virus transmission to humans through local practices, including fruit consumed by bats and harvested by humans when Nipah virus is circulating, and palm juice production. Nevertheless, in the serological survey of 418 potentially exposed people, none of them were seropositive to Nipah virus. Differences in agricultural practices among the regions where Nipah virus has emerged may explain the situation in Cambodia and point to actions to limit the risks of virus transmission to humans., Conclusion: Human practices are key to understanding transmission risks associated with emerging infectious diseases. Social science disciplines such as anthropology need to be integrated in health programmes targeting emerging infectious diseases. The Sterkfontein Caves is currently the world's richest Australopithecus-bearing site. Included in Sterkfontein's hominin assemblage is StW 573 ('Little Foot'), a near-complete Australopithecus skeleton discovered in Member 2 in the Silberberg Grotto. Because of its importance to the fossil hominin record, the geological age of StW 573 has been the subject of significant debate. Three main hypotheses have been proposed regarding the formation and age of Member 2 and by association StW 573. The first proposes that Member 2 (as originally defined in the type section in the Silberberg Grotto) started to accumulate at around 2.58 Ma and that the unit is contained within the Silberberg Grotto. The second proposes that Member 2 started forming before 3.67 ± 0.16 Ma and that the deposit extends into the Milner Hall and close to the base of the cave system. The third proposes a 'two-stage burial scenario', in which some sediments and StW 573 represent a secondary and mixed-age accumulation reworked from a higher cave. The stratigraphic and sedimentological implications of these hypotheses are tested here through the application of a multiscale investigation of Member 2, with reference to the taphonomy of the StW 573 skeleton. The complete infilling sequence of Member 2 is described across all exposures of the deposit in the Silberberg Grotto and into the Milner Hall. Sediments are generally stratified and conformably deposited in a sequence of silty sands eroded from well-developed lateritic soils on the landscape surface. Voids, clasts and bioclasts are organized consistently across and through Member 2 conforming with the underlying deposit geometry, indicating gradual deposit accretion with no distinct collapse facies evident and only localized intra-unit postdepositional modification. The stratigraphy and sedimentology of Member 2 support a simple single-stage accumulation process of Member 2 and a primary association between the sediments of Member 2 and the StW 573 'Little Foot' skeleton., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. Multi-elemental isotopic approach associated with a land-use characteristic sampling strategy may be relevant for conducting biomonitoring studies to determine the spatial extent of atmospheric contamination sources. In this work, we investigated how the combined isotopic signatures in epiphytic lichens of two major metallic pollutants, lead ( 206 Pb/ 207 Pb) and mercury (δ 202 Hg, Δ 199 Hg), together with the isotopic composition of nitrogen and carbon (δ 15 N, δ 13 C), can be used to better constrain atmospheric contamination inputs. To this end, an intensive and integrated sampling strategy based on land-use characteristics (Geographic information system, GIS) over a meso-scale area (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, SW France) was applied to more than 90 sampling stations. To depict potential relationships between such multi-elemental isotopic fingerprint and land-use characteristics, multivariate analysis was carried out. Combined Pb and Hg isotopic signatures resolved spatially the contribution of background atmospheric inputs from long range transport, from local legacy contamination (i.e. Pb) or actual industrial inputs (i.e. Pb and Hg from steel industry). Application of clustering multivariate analysis to all studied isotopes provided a new assessment of the region in accordance with the land-use characteristics and anthropogenic pressures., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Ltd. Overprojected tip is a pretty usual request not easy to manage. Preop analysis is crucial in order to evaluate tip support and skin thickness and ability to retract. For example, if the skin is very thick and has poor chance to retract, the surgeon should be very careful in the tip projection decreasing to avoid a skin pollybeak deformity. In such cases, he has to analyze the facial proportions, especially other areas projection (radix, dorsum and chin) and think about augmenting them to balance the profile rather than decreasing tip projection. Correction should always be conducted incrementally, starting with weakening the tip support mechanisms and, only if necessary, continue with alar cartilage interruption. The nurse has a responsibility to be a patient advocate, and serve as a trusted caregiver and resource., Implications for Nursing Practice: Oncology nurses are in a pivotal position to assure that communication throughout the continuum demonstrates and incorporates awareness of patient and family beliefs and quality-of-life needs.

Background: Using a carrageenan inflammation rat model, we evaluated two experimental approaches to prolong sciatic nerve block on contralateral hyperalgesia. Method. We performed ipsilateral sciatic nerve block on the inflamed hind paw with bupivacaine-loaded microspheres suspended in dexamethasone (bupivacaine 12.5 mg) and with amitriptyline (6.25 and 12.5 mg) as ultralong-acting local anaesthetics. Bupivacaine (1.25 mg) was used as long-acting local anaesthetic and saline was used as a control. The sixth group received amitriptyline 6.25 mg intraperitoneally (n=10 for each group)., Results: The duration of ipsilateral nerve block was 2 h for bupivacaine, 7 h for amitriptyline 6.25 mg, 11 h for amitriptyline 12.5 mg and 21 h for bupivacaine-loaded microspheres in suspension with dexamethasone. Whereas contralateral hyperalgesia was not observed during block produced by bupivacaine-loaded microspheres, contralateral hyperalgesia was observed with sciatic nerve block using amitriptyline., Conclusions: Because of the differential effect observed on the contralateral side, the mechanism underlying the prolongation of ipsilateral block with amitriptyline may not result only from a prolonged Na(+) channel blockade but might be explained by a local toxic effect or lack of systemic actions.

The internal structure of the Therapist Evaluation Inventory (TEI) was investigated with data gathered from therapy sessions conducted by 16 individual psychotherapists with 292 psychiatrically disturbed adolescent inpatients. A principal components analysis (Varimax rotation) indicated a single dimension that accounted for 70.39% of scale variance. The findings did not corroborate a factor structure consistent with the a priori scales of the TEI.

Beck's model of depression was examined with 110 hospitalized adolescents. Intercorrelations among measures of cognitive distortions and depression supported the downward extension of Beck's theorizing to adolescent inpatients. Inconsistencies between data sources (parent vs. child) suggest possible self-report contamination or the insensitivities of adult caregivers to the subjective elements of depression. The findings also may relate to unstable, developmental aspects of depressed episodes.
