The current study aimed to determine the effect of an 11-week sprint resisted swimming training programme on the swimming performance and the orientation angles of the hand. Fourteen young female swimmers were divided into two equivalent groups and were trained with specific sprint training sets. The experimental group performed these sets using a swimming parachute. For the evaluation of the intervention, before and at the end of the 11 weeks period both groups performed 50 m front crawl with maximal intensity and their underwater motion was recorded using four cameras. Their underwater movements were manually digitised using the Ariel Performance Analysis System and the statistical treatment of the data revealed a significant increase of the mean swimming velocity (3.76 ± 0.04 %) and stroke rate (3.09 ± 0.08 %) only in the experimental group. Moreover, a significant reduction of the total stroke duration (-4.26 ± 0.09 %) and the relative duration of the non-propulsive phases (-12.70 ± 0.23 %) was also observed only in the experimental group. The resultant velocity of the hand, and the pitch and sweepback angles of the hand remained unaffected in both groups during the pull and push phases. However, a significant decrease of the pitch angle (-47.44 ± 3.37 %) during the entry & catch phase was observed only in the experimental group. Background: The surgical treatment of accessory navicular (AN) is divided into simple resection of AN and Kidner surgery used to reconstruct posterior tibial tendon (PTT) after AN resection. However, both of these procedures have certain disadvantages. Herein, we proposed a modified method to reconstruct PTT and compared the short-term clinical effect of our method with the modified Kidner procedure., Methods: We collected data from 23 adolescent children with painful type II AN treated in our department between January 2015 and June 2020. The American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society Ankle-Hind foot (AOFAS-AH) Scores, the Meary Angle, and Pitch Angle of the lateral weight-bearing plain radiographs status were recorded before and after the operation to evaluate the treatment outcomes., Results: In the modified Kidner surgery (MK) group, the median AOFAS-AH increased from 61 (59-68) to 87 (83-91) (P < 0.05); the Pitch angle of the lateral weight-bearing plain radiographs increased from 13.0 (8-18) to 17.4 (14-22), and the Meary angle decreased from 18.3 (14-24) to 14.2 (8-20) (P < 0.05). In the PTT preservation folded suture (FS) group, the median AOFAS-AH increased from 61 (59-68) to 87 (85-91) (P < 0.05); the Pitch angle of the lateral weight-bearing plain radiographs increased from 12.3 (7-18) to 18.4 (15-26), and the Meary angle decreased from 17.8 (13-23) to 5.7 (3-8) (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in AOFAS-AH postoperative scores between the FS group and MK group; however, the improvement on Pitch and Meary angle of the lateral weight-bearing plain radiographs was significantly better in the FS group than in MK group (P < 0.05)., Conclusions: For painful type II AN in juvenile patients, the insertion-preserving folding suture procedure had similar short-term results on AOFAS-AH scores but greater improvement in the Meary angle and the Pitch Angle than the modified Kidner method., Level of Evidence: III., (© 2023. Objectives: This study aimed to clarify the effect of an intervention using a head-mounted display with a web camera set at a modified pitch angle on spatial awareness, sit-to-stand movement, and standing balance in patients with left and right hemisphere damage., Methods: The participants were 12 patients with right hemisphere damage and 12 patients with left hemisphere damage. The line bisection test, a sit-to-stand movement, and balance assessment were performed before and after the intervention. The intervention task involved pointing at targets 48 times in an upward bias condition., Results: Significant upward deviation on the line bisection test was noted in patients with right hemisphere damage. The load on the forefoot during the sit-to-stand movement was significantly increased. An accurate and efficient control of the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) and pitch angle for the Wind Turbine (WT) system can provide more energy while also protecting the material. Thus, considering these economic aspects, many controllers are proposed to guarantees their performances. The most studied strategy is the classical PID controller. However, its performance is limited due to the nonlinear model and the difficult wind speed form, which inflict many uncertainties. To solve these drawbacks, an advanced controller named Type-2 Fractional Order Fuzzy PID (T2-FOPID) controller is suggested in this paper to improve the exigence controls. Meanwhile, an efficient optimization technique named the Salps Swarm Algorithm (SSA) has been introduced in order obtaining the best controller parameters. The efficiency of the proposed controller is tested to the 10 kW-WT under various wind speed scenarios. This paper demonstrates the use of multiple low-cost inertial/magnetic sensors as a pedestrian navigation system for indoor positioning. This research looks at the problem of pedestrian navigation in a practical manner by investigating dead-reckoning methods using low-cost sensors. This work uses the estimated sensor orientation angles to compute the step size from the kinematics of a skeletal model. The orientations of limbs are represented by the tilt angles estimated from the inertial measurements, especially the pitch angle. In addition, different step size estimation methods are compared. A sensor data logging system is developed in order to record all motion data from every limb segment using a single platform and similar types of sensors. A skeletal model of five segments is chosen to model the forward kinematics of the lower limbs. A treadmill walk experiment with an optical motion capture system is conducted for algorithm evaluation. The mean error of the estimated orientation angles of the limbs is less than 6 degrees. The results show that the step length mean error is 3.2 cm, the left stride length mean error is 12.5 cm, and the right stride length mean error is 9 cm. The expected positioning error is less than 5% of the total distance travelled.

Gait analysis is relevant to a broad range of clinical applications in areas of orthopedics, neurosurgery, rehabilitation and the sports medicine. There are various methods available for capturing and analyzing the gait cycle. Most of gait analysis methods are computationally expensive and difficult to implement outside the laboratory environment. Inertial measurement units, IMUs are considered a promising alternative for the future of gait analysis. This study reports the results of a systematic validation procedure to validate the foot pitch angle measurement captured by an IMU against Vicon Optical Motion Capture System, considered the standard method of gait analysis. It represents the first phase of a research project which aims to objectively evaluate the ankle function and gait patterns of patients with dorsiflexion weakness (commonly called a "drop foot") due to a L5 lumbar radiculopathy pre- and post-lumbar decompression surgery. The foot pitch angle of 381 gait cycles from 19 subjects walking trails on a flat surface have been recorded throughout the course of this study. Comparison of results indicates a mean correlation of 99.542% with a standard deviation of 0.834%. The maximum root mean square error of the foot pitch angle measured by the IMU compared with the Vicon Optical Motion Capture System was 3.738° and the maximum error in the same walking trail between two measurements was 9.927°. Foot drop is one of the common gait abnormalities which are difficult to detect, diagnose and evaluate. While various gait monitoring systems are available, many are computationally expensive and difficult to implement outside laboratory environments. This study introduces an in-house designed system based on inertial measurement units to capture the gait symptoms, specifically in the case of foot drop symptoms. The system specification and communication results, as well as filtering methods are discussed. Also, the pitch angle of thigh, shank and foot from a subject with no reported foot problem have been compared (gathered from identical equipment under similar conditions) to the same angle from a foot drop subject.

In volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) for prostate cancer, a positional and rotational error correction is performed according to the position and angle of the prostate. The correction often involves body leaning, and there is concern regarding variation in the dose distribution. Our purpose in this study was to evaluate the impact of body pitch rotation on the dose distribution regarding VMAT. Treatment plans were obtained retrospectively from eight patients with prostate cancer. The body in the computed tomography images for the original VMAT plan was shifted to create VMAT plans with virtual pitch angle errors of ±1.5° and ±3°. Dose distributions for the tilted plans were recalculated with use of the same beam arrangement as that used for the original VMAT plan. The mean value of the maximum dose differences in the dose distributions between the original VMAT plan and the tilted plans was 2.98 ± 0.96 %. The value of the homogeneity index for the planning target volume (PTV) had an increasing trend according to the pitch angle error, and the values of the D 95 for the PTV and D 2ml, V 50, V 60, and V 70 for the rectum had decreasing trends (p < 0.05). However, there was no correlation between differences in these indexes and the maximum dose difference. The pitch angle error caused by body leaning had little effect on the dose distribution; in contrast, the pitch angle correction reduced the effects of organ displacement and improved these indexes. Thus, the pitch angle setup error in VMAT for prostate cancer should be corrected.
