Hyperspectral imagers enable the collection of high-resolution spectral images exploitable for the supervised classification of habitats and objects of interest (OOI). Although this is a well-established technology for the study of subaerial environments, Ecotone AS has developed an underwater hyperspectral imager (UHI) system to explore the properties of the seafloor. The aim of the project is to evaluate the potential of this instrument for mapping and monitoring benthic habitats in shallow and deep-water environments. For the first time, we tested this system at two sites in the Southern Adriatic Sea (Mediterranean Sea): the cold-water coral (CWC) habitat in the Bari Canyon and the Coralligenous habitat off Brindisi. We created a spectral library for each site, considering the different substrates and the main OOI reaching, where possible, the lower taxonomic rank. We applied the spectral angle mapper (SAM) supervised classification to map the areal extent of the Coralligenous and to recognize the major CWC habitat-formers. Despite some technical problems, the first results demonstrate the suitability of the UHI camera for habitat mapping and seabed monitoring, through the achievement of quantifiable and repeatable classifications.

Tidal channels are crucial for the functioning of wetlands, though their morphological properties, which are relevant for seafloor habitats and flow, have been understudied so far. Here, we release a dataset composed of Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) extracted from a total of 2,500 linear kilometres of high-resolution multibeam echosounder (MBES) data collected in 2013 covering the entire network of tidal channels and inlets of the Venice Lagoon, Italy. The dataset comprises also the backscatter (BS) data, which reflect the acoustic properties of the seafloor, and the tidal current fields simulated by means of a high-resolution three-dimensional unstructured hydrodynamic model. The DTMs and the current fields help define how morphological and benthic properties of tidal channels are affected by the action of currents. These data are of potential broad interest not only to geomorphologists, oceanographers and ecologists studying the morphology, hydrodynamics, sediment transport and benthic habitats of tidal environments, but also to coastal engineers and stakeholders for cost-effective monitoring and sustainable management of this peculiar shallow coastal system.

The natural history of urolithiasis includes the risk of recurrence and of the development of chronic kidney and/or bone disease, which is why a thorough clinical and metabolic evaluation of these patients is of the utmost importance at disease onset. This paper is aimed at identifying the type of urolithiasis, the related risk factors, and the corresponding treatment options. The diagnostic and therapeutic approach described here includes 1) accurate history taking to detect secondary nephrolithiasis and screen for the main risk factors for kidney and bone disease; 2) metabolic evaluation graded according to different complexity levels based on the severity of the disease and the presence of risk factors; 3) carrying out appropriate imaging procedures. The resulting information allows to plan treatment based either on general rules of lifestyle and diet, or on selected medical intervention, if necessary. This report, which is based on current guidelines, was produced by the Gruppo Italiano di Studio Multidisciplinare per la Calcolosi Renale. It is addressed to all professionals involved in the management of patients suffering from nephrolithiasis, first of all general practitioners, who often become involved immediately at the onset of the disease.

Issues about commercialization of space have been a growing concern in the past decade for the space community. This paper focuses on the work from a team of 51 students attending the Summer Session Program of the International Space University in Bremen, Germany. CASH 2021 (Commercial Access and Space Habitation) documents a plan that identifies commercial opportunities for space utilization that will extend human presence in space, and will chart the way forward for the next 20 years. The group selected four commercial sectors that show the most promise for the future: tourism, entertainment, space system service, assembly and debris removal, and research and development/production. The content of this document presents the results of their research. Historical activities in each of the commercial sectors are reviewed along with the current market situation. To provide a coherent background for future commercialization possibilities a scenario has been developed. This scenario includes a postulated upon ideal future and includes social, political and economic factors that may affect the space industry over the timeline of the study. The study also presents a roadmap, within the limited optimistic scenario developed, for the successful commercialization of space leading to future human presence in space. A broad range of commercially viable opportunities, not only within the current limits of the International Space Station, but also among the many new developments that are expected by 2021 are discussed., (c2002 International Astronautical Federation. The visual evoked response transfer function of amblyopic subjects was studied. Strabismic amblyopes showed abnormalities only in the high spatial frequency range. Anisometropic amblyopes on the contrary, showed an abnormal function both in the low and high spatial frequency range. This is an objective correlate of functional differences between strabismic and anisometropic amblyopes.

A 26-year-old female showed a bilateral ophthalmoscopic picture of pigmented paravenous retino-choroidal distrophy 19 years after neuro-retinitis following measles. Pigmentary disturbances in the fundus were not reported in 1963 clinical record; however functional tests are at present practically unchanged. Some debated aspects of this condition are discussed.

A case iatrogenic rupture of the stomach due to gastric wash carried out to treat a child of 5 yrs who had swallowed antineuralgic tablets is reported. This is the first reported case. It is concluded that all instrumental techniques should be carried out with maximum caution and delicacy.
