The polymer-based denitrification system is an effective nitrate removal process for treating low carbon/nitrogen wastewater. However, in polymer denitrification systems, carbon used for the denitrification reaction is weakly targeted. Improving the efficiency of carbon utilization in denitrification is important to reduce carbon wastage. In this study, a symbiotic biofilm-sludge denitrification system was constructed using polycaprolactone as electron donors. Results show that the carbon release amount in 120 days was 85.32±0.46 g, and the unit mass of polycaprolactone could remove 1.55±0.01 g NO 3 - -N. Meaningfully, the targeted carbon utilization efficiency for denitrification could achieve 79%-85%. The quantitative results showed that the release of electron donors can be well matched to the demand for electron acceptors in the biofilm-sludge denitrification system. Purpose: Black women experience higher rates of taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy (TIPN) compared with White women when receiving adjuvant once weekly paclitaxel for early-stage breast cancer, leading to more dose reductions and higher recurrence rates. EAZ171 aimed to prospectively validate germline predictors of TIPN and compare rates of TIPN and dose reductions in Black women receiving (neo)adjuvant once weekly paclitaxel and once every 3 weeks docetaxel for early-stage breast cancer., Methods: Women with early-stage breast cancer who self-identified as Black and had intended to receive (neo)adjuvant once weekly paclitaxel or once every 3 weeks docetaxel were eligible, with planned accrual to 120 patients in each arm. Genotyping was performed to determine germline neuropathy risk. Grade 2-4 TIPN by Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) v5.0 was compared between high- versus low-risk genotypes and between once weekly paclitaxel versus once every 3 weeks docetaxel within 1 year. Patient-rated TIPN and patient-reported outcomes were compared using patient-reported outcome (PRO)-CTCAE and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy/Gynecologic Oncology Group-Neurotoxicity., Results: Two hundred and forty of 249 enrolled patients had genotype data, and 91 of 117 (77.8%) receiving once weekly paclitaxel and 87 of 118 (73.7%) receiving once every 3 weeks docetaxel were classified as high-risk. Physician-reported grade 2-4 TIPN was not significantly different in high- versus low-risk genotype groups with once weekly paclitaxel (47% v 35%; P = .27) or with once every 3 weeks docetaxel (28% v 19%; P = .47). Grade 2-4 TIPN was significantly higher in the once weekly paclitaxel versus once every 3 weeks docetaxel arm by both physician-rated CTCAE (45% v 29%; P = .02) and PRO-CTCAE (40% v 24%; P = .03). Patients receiving once weekly paclitaxel required more dose reductions because of TIPN (28% v 9%; P < .001) or any cause (39% v 25%; P = .02)., Conclusion: Germline variation did not predict risk of TIPN in Black women receiving (neo)adjuvant once weekly paclitaxel or once every 3 weeks docetaxel. Once weekly paclitaxel was associated with significantly more grade 2-4 TIPN and required more dose reductions than once every 3 weeks docetaxel.

The beneficial effects of xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS) on the intestine have been widely reported, including anti-inflammation, antioxidant, maintenance of intestinal epithelial barrier, and treatment of intestinal injury. However, the specific mechanism of XOS in mitigating intestinal injury in weaned piglets remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the specific mechanism of XOS in mitigating intestinal injury. The study is a complete randomized design with 24 weaned piglets in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement that includes diet treatments (basal diet vs 0.02% XOS) and immunological challenge [saline vs lipopolysaccharide (LPS)]. All piglets were fed a basal diet or a XOS diet for 21 days. On day 22, all piglets received an injection of LPS or saline. In this study, dietary XOS increased jejunal villus height, reduced crypt depth and oxidative stress, and enhanced the gene and protein expression of Claudin-1, Occludin, and zonula occludens 1 (P < 0.05). The piglets fed the XOS diet had lower serum Diamine oxidase activity and D-lactic acid content (P < 0.05). In addition, dietary XOS regulates endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-mitochondria system function and the expression of key molecules, including mitochondrial dynamics dysfunction [mitofusin (Mfn)-1, optic atrophy 1, fission 1, and dynamin-related protein 1], ER stress [activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4), ATF6, C/EBP homologous protein, eukaryotic initiation factor 2α, glucose-regulated protein (GRP) 78, GRP94 and protein kinase R-like ER kinase] and the mitochondria-associated ER membranes (MAM) disorders (Mfn2, GRP75 and voltage-dlependent anion channel 1) (P < 0.05). Human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived sensory neuron (iPSC-dSN) models are a valuable resource for the study of neurotoxicity but are affected by poor replicability and reproducibility, often due to a lack of optimization. Here, we identify experimental factors related to culture conditions that substantially impact cellular drug response in vitro and determine optimal conditions for improved replicability and reproducibility. Treatment duration and cell seeding density were both found to be significant factors, while cell line differences also contributed to variation. A replicable dose-response in viability was demonstrated after 48-h exposure to docetaxel or paclitaxel. Additionally, a replicable dose-dependent reduction in neurite outgrowth was demonstrated, demonstrating the applicability of the model for the examination of additional phenotypes. Endotoxins, also known as lipopolysaccharides (LPS), are present within the cell walls of Gram-negative bacteria and are released upon cellular death, which can pose a significant risk to human and animal health. Due to the minimal amount of endotoxin required to trigger an inflammatory response in human body, the demand for sensitive methods with low endotoxin detection limits is essential necessary. This paper presents a straightforward aptamer sensor which can enhance the conductivity and specific surface area of molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) by incorporating carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) and polyaniline (PANI). Doping with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) improves biocompatibility and sensitivity while providing binding sites for thiolated endotoxin-binding aptamers (LBA). This biosensor achieved a remarkable detection limit as low as 0.5 fg mL -1 , enabling trace-level identification of LPS. It also exhibits excellent repeatability, selectivity, and stability, facilitating rapid and accurate LPS detection. Background: Long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) have been implicated as critical regulators of cancer tumorigenesis and progression. However, their functions and molecular mechanisms in colorectal cancer (CRC) still remain to be further elucidated., Methods: LINC00460 was identified by differential analysis between human CRC and normal tissues and verified by in situ hybridization (ISH) and qRT-PCR. We investigated the biological functions of LINC00460 in CRC by in vitro and in vivo experiments. We predicted the mechanism and downstream functional molecules of LINC00460 by bioinformatics analysis, and confirmed them by dual luciferase reporter gene assay, RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP), RNA pull-down, etc. RESULTS: LINC00460 was found to be significantly overexpressed in CRC and associated with poor prognosis. Overexpression of LINC00460 promoted CRC cell immune escape and remodeled a suppressive tumor immune microenvironment, thereby promoting CRC proliferation and metastasis. Mechanistic studies showed that LINC00460 served as a molecular sponge for miR-186-3p, and then promoted the expressions of MYC, CD47 and PD-L1 to facilitate CRC cell immune escape. We also demonstrated that MYC upregulated LINC00460 expression at the transcriptional level and formed a positive feedback loop., Conclusions: The LINC00460/miR-186-3p/MYC feedback loop promotes CRC cell immune escape and subsequently facilitates CRC proliferation and metastasis. Background: The evidence on the association of fine particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 μm or less (PM2.5) with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) retreatment is limited. There are no data on whether greenness exposure protects air pollution-related PTB retreatment in patients with prior PTB., Objective: In a population-based retrospective study, we aimed to investigate the influence of PM2.5 and residential greenness on the risk of PTB retreatment., Methods: A total of 26,482 patients with incident PTB, registered in a mandatory web-based reporting system between 2012 and 2019 in Zhengzhou, China, were included in the analysis. The exposure to PM2.5 was assessed based on the China High Air Pollutants dataset, and the level of greenness was estimated using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) values. The associations of PTB retreatment with exposure to PM2.5 and greenness were evaluated, respectively, considering the local socioeconomic level indicated by the nighttime light index., Results: Among the 26,482 patients (mean age 46.86, SD 19.52 years) with a median follow-up time of 1523 days per patient, 1542 (5.82%) PTB retreatments were observed between 2012 and 2019. Exposure to PM2.5 was observed to be significantly associated with the increased risk of PTB retreatment in fully adjusted models with a hazard ratio of 1.97 (95% CI 1.34-2.83) per 10 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5. Patients living in the regions with relatively high quartiles of NDVI values had a 45% lower risk of PTB retreatment than those living in the regions with the lowest quartile for the 500 m buffers (hazard ratio 0.55, 95% CI 0.40-0.77). Such a protective effect of residential greenness was more pronounced among patients living in lower nighttime light areas. The strength of the association between PM2.5 exposure and the risk of PTB retreatment was attenuated by greenness. No significant association was observed between NDVI and the incidence of drug resistance., Conclusions: Long-term exposure to PM2.5 might be a risk factor for PTB retreatment, while an increased level of residential greenness was found to be associated with reduced risks of PTB retreatment. Sandy soils are suffering from water loss and desertification, which severely restrict the development of local agriculture. In this work, an eco-friendly hydrogel composed of borax and locust bean gum was synthesized to enhance the water retention capacity of sandy soil and support agricultural development in arid regions. Locust bean gum/borax hydrogel with a 3D network structure exhibited great water-absorbing capacity (130.29 g/g) within 30 min. After mixing 0.9 wt% hydrogel with sandy soil, the maximum soil water content, water retention time, soil porosity and soil organic matter were increased by 32.03 %, 14 days, 38.9 % and 8.64 g/kg respectively. Little effect on soil microorganisms revealed barely toxicity. Furthermore, the hydrogel was confirmed to be biodegradable at 43.47 % after 4 weeks. According to the study, locust bean gum/borax hydrogel possesses good water absorbing capacity, soil water retention ability, soil optimization ability and low adverse environmental impact. Context: Adult cancer survivors are at a heightened risk for secondary primary differentiated thyroid carcinoma (2-DTC). The characteristics and outcomes of 2-DTC remain poorly understood., Objective: We aim to explore the characteristics and outcomes of 2-DTC., Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from the SEER database (2000-2017). 2-DTC was divided into 25 subgroups based on the prior primary malignancies (PPMs). Baseline characteristics were compared using the Chi-square test. Multivariable logistic analysis was used to identified if PPMs associated with aggressive DTC characteristics. DTC-specific and cancer-specific mortality were analyzed using univariable and multivariable competing risk regression model., Results: There were 138,555 1-DTC and 9,253 2-DTC patients were identified. 2-DTC patients were predominantly older, male, and white compared to first primary DTC (1-DTC) (all P < 0.05). In multivariable logistic regression analysis, only four types of PPMs were associated with higher rates of DTC aggressive characteristics, while 19 types exhibited lower rates (all P < 0.05). In multivariable competing risk analysis, 2-DTC showed no mortality risk in stages I (SHR: 1.16, 95% CI: 0.65-2.07) and II (SHR: 0.67, 95% CI: 0.45-1.01), but a protective role in stages III (SHR: 0.47, 95% CI: 0.27-0.83) and IV (SHR: 0.72, 95% CI: 0.52-0.99). Most PPMs that developed into 2-DTC had a lower risk of DTC-specific death than 1-DTC, but many PPMs had a higher risk of cancer-specific death., Conclusions: Given the characteristics and outcomes of 2-DTC, aggressive treatment for 2-DTC, particularly for PPM with a high mortality risk, may not be advisable., (© The Author(s) 2024. An interbody fusion cage (Cage) is crucial in spinal decompression and fusion procedures for restoring normal vertebral curvature and rebuilding spinal stability. Currently, these Cages suffer from issues related to mismatched elastic modulus and insufficient bone integration capability. Therefore, a gel-casting technique is utilized to fabricate a biomimetic porous titanium alloy material from Ti6Al4V powder. The biomimetic porous Ti6Al4V is compared with polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and 3D-printed Ti6Al4V materials and their respective Cages. Systematic validation is performed through mechanical testing, in vitro cell, in vivo rabbit bone defect implantation, and ovine anterior cervical discectomy and fusion experiments to evaluate the mechanical and biological performance of the materials. Although all three materials demonstrate good biocompatibility and osseointegration properties, the biomimetic porous Ti6Al4V, with its excellent mechanical properties and a structure closely resembling bone trabecular tissue, exhibited superior bone ingrowth and osseointegration performance. Compared to the PEEK and 3D-printed Ti6Al4V Cages, the biomimetic porous Ti6Al4V Cage outperforms in terms of intervertebral fusion performance, achieving excellent intervertebral fusion without the need for bone grafting, thereby enhancing cervical vertebra stability. Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) have emerged in recent years as highly promising candidates for high-density energy storage systems. Despite their immense potential, mutual constraints arise when optimizing energy density, rate capability, and operational safety, which greatly hinder the commercialization of LMBs. The utilization of oriented structures in LMBs appears as a promising strategy to address three key performance barriers: 1) low efficiency of active material utilization at high surface loading, 2) easy formation of Li dendrites and damage to interfaces under high-rate cycling, and 3) low ionic conductivity of solid-state electrolytes in high safety LMBs. This review aims to holistically introduce the concept of oriented structures, provide criteria for quantifying the degree of orientation, and elucidate their systematic effects on the properties of materials and devices. Furthermore, a detailed categorization of oriented structures is proposed to offer more precise guidance for the design of LMBs. This review also provides a comprehensive summary of preparation techniques for oriented structures and delves into the mechanisms by which these can enhance the energy density, rate capability, and safety of LMBs. Objectives: This study was performed to construct and validate a risk prediction model for non-invasive ventilation (NIV) failure after birth in premature infants with gestational age < 32 weeks., Methods: The data were derived from the multicenter retrospective study program - Jiangsu Provincial Neonatal Respiratory Failure Collaboration Network from Jan 2019 to Dec 2021. The subjects finally included were preterm infants using NIV after birth with gestational age less than 32 weeks and admission age within 72 h. After screening by inclusion and exclusion criteria, 1436 babies were subsequently recruited in the study, including 1235 infants in the successful NIV group and 201 infants in the failed NIV group., Results: (1) Gestational age, 5 min Apgar, Max FiO 2 during NIV, and FiO 2 fluctuation value during NIV were selected by univariate and multivariate analysis. (2) The area under the curve of the prediction model was 0.807 (95% CI: 0.767-0.847) in the training set and 0.825 (95% CI: 0.766-0.883) in the test set. The calibration curve showed good agreement between the predicted probability and the actual observed probability (Mean absolute error = 0.008 for the training set; Mean absolute error = 0.012 for the test set). Decision curve analysis showed good clinical validity of the risk model in the training and test cohorts., Conclusion: This model performed well on dimensions of discrimination, calibration, and clinical validity. Despite being heralded as the "holy grail" of anodes for their high theoretical specific capacity, lithium (Li) metal anodes still face practical challenges due to difficulties in fabricating ultrathin Li with controllable thickness and suppressing Li dendrites growth. Herein, we introduce a simple and cost-effective dip-coating method to fabricate ultrathin lithium-tin (LiSn) anode with adjustable thicknesses ranging from 4.5 to 45 μm. The in situ formation of Li 22 Sn 5 alloy improves the wettability of the molten Li, enabling the casting of ultrathin Li metal layers on different substrates. More importantly, the abundant Li 22 Sn 5 lithiophilic sites significantly lower the nucleation overpotential, inducing uniform Li deposition and accelerating the electrochemical reaction at the interface. As a result, the symmetric cell assembled with LiSn-Cu electrodes can cycle stably for more than 120 h with a charge/discharge depth of 50%, which is 1.5 times longer than the lifespan of the pure Li anode. In the full cells paired with NCM cathode, the discharge specific capacity is improved from 13.84 to 70.31 mA h g -1 with the LiSn-Cu anode at 8 C. The LiSn-Cu||NCM full cell realized a high energy density of 724.9 Wh kg -1 at the active material level with an N / P ratio of 1.4.

An ultrasound (US)/biochar (BC)/ferrate (Fe (VI)) system was firstly proposed to enhance perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) defluorination. It achieved 93 % defluorination optimally, higher than the sum of 77 % (28 % and 49 % for US/BC and US/Fe (VI) respectively), implying synergistic effect. Besides, the mechanism study confirmed that, this system can not only increase the specific surface area of BC and the generation of reactive oxidant species (ROS), enriching the active sites and forming new oxygen-containing functional groups, but also promote the formation of intermediate iron species. The PFOA degradation in the US/BC/Fe (VI) was probably an adsorption-degradation process, both ROS and electron transfer promoted the defluorination. Additionally, its sustainability was also demonstrated with 14 % reduced defluorination percentage after five cycles of BC. Peroxide value (PV) and acid value (AV) are widely used indicators for evaluating oxidation degree of olive oils. Fluorescence spectroscopy has been extensively studied on the detection of oil oxidation, however, the detection accuracy is limited due to internal filtering effect (IFE). Due to the primary and secondary IFE, at least two wavelengths of absorption information are required. Least squares support vector regression (LSSVR) models for PV and AV were established based on two absorption coefficients (μ a ) at 375 nm and emission wavelength and one fluorescence intensity at corresponding wavelength. The regression results proved that the model based on 375 and 475 nm could reach the best performance, with the highest correlation coefficient for prediction (r p ) of 0.889 and 0.960 for PV and AV respectively. Glioblastoma is the most common cancer in the brain, resistant to conventional therapy and prone to recurrence. Therefore, it is crucial to explore novel therapeutics strategies for the treatment and prognosis of GBM. In this study, through analyzing online datasets, we elucidated the expression and prognostic value of POLR2J and its co-expressed genes in GBM patients. Functional experiments, including assays for cell apoptosis and cell migration, were used to explore the effects of POLR2J and vorinostat on the proliferation and migration of GBM cells. The highest overexpression of POLR2J, among all cancer types, was observed in GBM. Furthermore, high expression of POLR2J or its co-expressed genes predicted a poor outcome in GBM patients. DNA replication pathways were significantly enriched in the GBM clinical samples with high POLR2J expression, and POLR2J suppression inhibited proliferation and triggered cell cycle G1/S phase arrest in GBM cells. Moreover, POLR2J silencing activated the unfolded protein response (UPR) and significantly enhanced the anti-GBM activity of vorinostat by suppressing cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis. Additionally, POLR2J could interact with STAT3 to promote the metastatic potential of GBM cells. This longitudinal study examines the timelines of occurrences of intimate partner violence (IPV) on child-mother attachment, as well as the mediating role of maternal postpartum depression (PPD). Using a sample in the United States ( N  = 2,268), findings suggest that, compared to mothers' prenatal IPV victimization, postnatal IPV more negatively influences child-mother attachment when the children were at 3 years old, and this negative impact on attachment was partially mediated through maternal PPD. Background: Bevacizumab is a beneficial therapy in several advanced cancer types. Predictive biomarkers to better understand which patients are destined to benefit or experience toxicity are needed. Associations between bevacizumab induced hypertension and survival have been reported but with conflicting conclusions., Methods: We performed post-hoc analyses to evaluate the association in 3124 patients from two phase III adjuvant breast cancer trials, E5103 and BEATRICE. Differences in invasive disease-free survival (IDFS) and overall survival (OS) between patients with hypertension and those without were compared. Hypertension was defined as systolic blood pressure (SBP) ≥ 160 mmHg (n = 346) and SBP ≥ 180 mmHg (hypertensive crisis) (n = 69). Genomic analyses were performed to evaluate germline genetic predictors for the hypertensive crisis., Results: Hypertensive crisis was significantly associated with superior IDFS (p = 0.015) and OS (p = 0.042), but only IDFS (p = 0.029; HR = 0.28) remained significant after correction for prognostic factors. SBP ≥ 160 mmHg was not associated with either IDFS or OS. Synthesized allophane was employed in anaerobic digestion of chicken manure to improve the stability and methane production under ammonia inhibition. Adding 0.5 %, 1.0 % and 1.5 % (w/w) allophane increased the methane production by 261 ∼ 350 % compared with the group without allophane addition. Further investigation indicated that the maximum adsorption capacity of allophane for NH 4 + -N achieved at 261.9 mg/g; it suggested that allophane adsorption potentially alleviated the ammonia inhibition, which also was reflected by the increase in the activity of the related enzyme, such as coenzyme F 420 . Moreover, allophane addition also intensified the direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET) in anaerobic digestion; it can be well supported by the increased relative abundance of Methanosaeta and Methanosarcina involved in the DIET. Background: Recurrence posed an important challenge to pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) control in China. The prospective study aimed to identify potential risk factors and to explore the value of QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus) in identifying at-risk individuals with treated prior PTB history., Methods: All eligible individuals aged ≥18 years who had been diagnosed with PTB before 2016 in Zhongmu County, where with an average level of TB prevalence in China, were included and received baseline survey including chest radiography, QuantiFERON-TB Gold In-Tube (QFT-GIT) and QFT-Plus, then PTB recurrence was tracked through a 2-year follow-up., Results: Half of 1068 (52.34%, 559/1068) included eligible participants were QFT-Plus positive at baseline and 21 of them recurred active TB in 2-year follow-up. Individuals aged ≥ 60 years, who had a recent history of TB and smokers were associated with increased risk of TB recurrence with an adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of 3.97 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.29-12.24), 7.71 (95% CI: 1.74-34.25) and 4.56 (95% CI: 1.62-12.83), respectively. Compared to QFT-Plus negatives, those who were TB2+/TB1- (aOR = 15.34) exhibited stronger association with the risk of TB recurrence than those who were TB1+/TB2+ (aOR = 6.06). A dose response relationship was also found between the risk of TB recurrence with the baseline level of TB2-TB1 (p for trend < 0.001)., Conclusions: High burden of TB infection and high risk of PTB recurrence were observed in the study population. Those with recent onset of prior TB, elderly smokers and QFT-Plus positives especially with TB2 single positive deserved further attention in active TB surveillance.

The role of experts in news coverage has become increasingly prominent, but the evidence regarding the effectiveness of expert opinions in affecting public behavior remains mixed. This study seeks to examine the influence of expert opinions covered in the news on the public's response to public health crises. By adopting a macro-level framing perspective, we investigated how framing consistency, a macro-level concept indicating the agreement between expert opinions in news coverage and government policies or among peer experts, evolves over time and its temporal causal relationship with public behavior. Specifically, this study collected all press news coverage in Hong Kong over four months during the fifth outbreak, including 1,416 articles with 650 expert opinions, as well as the vaccination data that paralleled with this period. We constructed time series of expert opinions and vaccination behavior, and then conducted Vector Autoregressive (VAR) models with Granger causality analysis to examine how framing consistency of expert opinions in news coverage influenced vaccination. The results indicate that the consistent framing between expert opinions and government policies increased COVID-19 vaccination during the fifth outbreak in Hong Kong, while conflicting opinions responding to government policies had no significant effect on vaccination. Opinions among medical experts on COVID-19 issues also did not significantly impact vaccination. The implications for designing communication strategies and enhancing public behavioral support during public health crises are discussed.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) have abnormal expression in numerous tumors and are closely related to tumor development and resistance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, there are few studies assessing the role and mechanism of miRNA in chordoma. The sequencing data of three pairs of chordoma and notochord tissues from the GSE56183 dataset were analyzed in the present study. Cell proliferation was assessed in vitro using Cell Counting Kit-8. Bioinformatics analysis and the dual luciferase reporter assay were used to evaluate the regulatory relationship between miR-1224 and chromobox 3 (CBX3) in chordoma. The results demonstrated that miR-1224 had a significantly lower expression level in chordoma tissues and cell lines. Overexpression of miR-1224 inhibited proliferation in the chordoma cells, while the knockdown of miR-1224 promoted proliferation of the chordoma cells. Bioinformatics analysis and the dual luciferase reporter assay confirmed that CBX3 was a direct target gene of miR-1224 and that miR-1224 induced the proliferation of chordoma cells through the inhibition of CBX3. This study aims to address the challenge of matrix interference of various types of edible oils on intrinsic fluorescence of aflatoxin B 1 (AFB 1 ) by developing a novel solution. Considering the fluorescence internal filtering effect, the absorption (μ a ) and reduced scattering (μ' s ) coefficients at dual wavelengths (excitation: 375 nm, emission: 450 nm) were obtained by using integrating sphere technique, and were used to improve the quantitative prediction results for AFB 1 contents in six different kinds of edible oils. A research process of "Monte Carlo (MC) simulation - phantom verification - actual sample validation" was conducted. The MC simulation was used to determine interference rule and correction parameters for fluorescence, the results indicated that the escaped fluorescence flux nonlinearly decreased with the μ a , μ' s at emission wavelength (μ a,em , μ' s,em ) and μ a at excitation wavelength (μ a,ex ), however increased with the μ' s at excitation wavelength (μ' s,ex ). And the required optical parameters to eliminate the interference of matrix on fluorescence intensity are: effective attenuation coefficients at excitation and emission wavelengths (μ eff,ex , μ eff,em ) and μ' s,ex . Phantom verification was conducted to explore the feasibility of fluorescence correction based on the identified parameters by MC simulation, and determine the optimal machine learning method. The modelling results showed that least squares support vector regression (LSSVR) model could reach the best performance. Three kinds of edible oil (peanut, rapeseed, corn), each with two brands were used to prepare oil samples with different AFB 1 contamination. The LSSVR model for AFB 1 based on μ eff,ex , μ eff,em , μ' s,ex and fluorescence intensity at 450 nm was calibrated, both correlation coefficients for calibration (R c ) and the validation (R v ) sets could reach 1.000, root mean square errors for calibration (RMSEC) and the validation (RMSEV) sets were as low as 0.038 and 0.099 respectively. Scope: Palmitoleic acid (POA) is an omega-7 monounsaturated fatty acid that has been suggested to improve metabolic disorders. However, it remains unclear whether gut microbiota plays a role in the amelioration of metabolic disorders by POA. This study aims to investigate the regulation of POA on metabolism, as well as systemic inflammation in HFD-fed mice from the perspective of serum metabolome and gut microbiome., Methods and Results: Thirty-six C57BL/6 male mice are randomly assigned to either a normal chow diet containing 1.9% w/w lard or an HFD containing 20.68% w/w lard or 20.68% w/w sea buckthorn pulp oil for 16 weeks. The study finds that POA significantly attenuated hyperlipidemia, insulin resistance, and inflammation in HFD-fed mice. POA supplementation significantly alters the composition of serum metabolites, particularly lipid metabolites in the glycerophospholipid metabolism pathway. POA obviously increases the abundance of Bifidobacterium and decreases the abundance of Allobaculum. Importantly, the study finds that glycerophosphocholine mediates the effect of Bifidobacterium on LDL-C, sphingomyelin mediates the effect of Bifidobacterium on IL-6, and maslinic acid mediates the effect of Allobaculum on IL-6., Conclusion: The results suggest that exogenous POA can improve metabolic disorders and inflammation in HFD-fed mice, potentially by modulating the serum metabolome and gut microbiome., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

In recent years, smartphones have emerged as the primary terminal for navigation and location services among mass users, owing to their universality, portability, and affordability. However, the highly integrated antenna design within smartphones inevitably introduces interference from internal signal sources, leading to a misalignment between the antenna phase center (APC) and the antenna geometric center. Accurately determining a smartphone's APC can mitigate system errors and enhance positioning accuracy, thereby meeting the increasing demand for precise and reliable user positioning. This paper delves into a detailed analysis of the generation of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver antenna phase center errors and proposes a method for correcting the receiver antenna phase center. Subsequently, a smartphone positioning experiment was conducted by placing the smartphone on an observation column with known coordinates. The collected observations were processed in static relative positioning mode, referencing observations from geodetic-grade equipment, and the accuracy of the static relative positioning fixed solution was evaluated. Following weighted estimation, we determined the antenna phase center of the Xiaomi Mi8 and corrected the APC. A comparison of the positioning results of the Xiaomi Mi8 before and after APC correction revealed minimal impact on the standard deviations (STDs) but significant influence on the root mean square errors (RMSEs). Specifically, the RMSEs in the E/N/U direction were reduced by 59.6%, 58.5%, and 42.0%, respectively, after APC correction compared to before correction. Furthermore, the integer ambiguity fixing rate slightly improved after the APC correction. In conclusion, the determination of a smartphone's APC can effectively reduce system errors in the plane direction of GNSS positioning, thereby enhancing smartphone positioning accuracy. This research holds significant value for advancing high-precision positioning studies related to smartphones.

3,4-Bis(3-nitrofurazan-4-yl)furoxan (DNTF) is a novel energetic material with an excellent performance and has attracted considerable attention. Motivated by recent theories and experiments, we had carried out experimental and theoretical studies on the high-pressure responses of vibrational characteristics, in conjunction with structural and electronic characteristics. It is found that all observed infrared spectra peaks seem to shift towards higher frequencies. And the peaks attributed to N-O c (coordinated oxygen atom) stretching vibrations become broader due to the decrease of lattice constants and the free region of DNTF crystals with the increase of pressure, where the a -direction is more sensitive to pressure. In addition, the non-covalent interaction between adjacent DNTF molecules in the same layer changes from the van der Waals interaction to the steric effect with the increase of pressure, and that between layers also changes from the van der Waals interaction to the π-π stacking interaction. More importantly, these results highlight that the increase of pressure may lead to the stability decrease and impact the sensitivity increase of DNTF. This study can deepen the understanding of the energetic material DNTF under high pressure and is of great significance for blasting and detonation applications of DNTF.

Purpose: Consensus molecular subtypes (CMS) are mainly used for biological interpretability and clinical stratification of colorectal cancer (CRC) in primary tumors (PT) but few in metastases. The heterogeneity of CMS distribution in metastases and the concordance of CMS between PT and metastases still lack sufficient study. We used CMS to classify CRC metastases and combine it with histopathological analysis to explore differences between PT and distant metastases., Patients and Methods: We obtained gene expression profiles for 942 PT samples from TCGA database (n=376) and GEO database (n=566), as well as 442 metastasis samples from GEO database. Among these, 765 PT samples and 442 metastasis samples were confidently identified with CMS using the "CMS classifier" and enrolled for analysis. Clinicopathological manifestation and CMS classification of CRC metastases were assessed with data from GEO, TCGA, and cBioPortal. Overall, 105 PT-metastasis pairs were extracted from 10 GEO datasets to assess CMS concordance. Tumor microenvironment (TME) features between PT and metastases were analyzed by immune-stromal infiltration with ESTIMATE and xCell algorithms. Finally, TME features were validated with multiplex immunohistochemistry in 27 PT-metastasis pairs we retrospectively collected., Results: Up to 64% of CRC metastases exhibited concordant CMS groups with matched PT, and the TME of metastases was similar to that of PT. For most common distant metastases, liver metastases were predominantly CMS2 and lung and peritoneal metastases were mainly CMS4, highlighting "seed" of tumor cells of different CMS groups had a preference for metastasis to "soil" of specific organs. Compared with PT, cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF) reduced in liver metastases, CD4+T cells and M2-like macrophages increased in lung metastases, and M2-like macrophages and CAF increased in peritoneal metastases., Conclusion: Our findings underscore the importance of CMS-guided specific organ monitoring and treatment post-primary tumor surgery for patients. Adsorptive fractionation of dissolved black carbon (DBC) on minerals is proven to alter its molecular composition, which will inevitably affect the environment fate of heavy metals. However, the effects of molecular fractionation on the interaction between DBC and heavy metals remain unclear. Herein, we observed that the selective adsorption of ferrihydrite caused molecular changes of DBC from high molecular weight/unsaturation/aromaticity to low molecular weight/saturation/aliphatics. This process accompanied by a retention of carbohydrate and a reduction of oxygen-rich functional groups (e.g., polyphenols and carboxyl) and long carbon chain in DBC. The residual DBC in aqueous phase demonstrated a weaker binding affinity to copper compared to the original DBC. This decrease in binding affinity was primarily attributed to the adsorption of polycyclic condensed aromatic compounds of 200-250 Da, oxygen-rich polycyclic condensed aromatic compounds of 250-300 Da, oxygen-rich non-polycyclic aromatic compounds of 300-450 Da, and non-polycyclic aromatic compounds of 450-700 Da in DBC by ferrihydrite. Additionally, the retention of carbohydrates and aliphatic compounds of 300-450 Da also made a significant contribution. Notably, carboxylic groups rather than phenolic groups were the dominant oxygen-containing functional groups responsible for this affinity reduction. Background: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common malignant endocrine tumour, and its incidence and prevalence are increasing considerably. Cellular heterogeneity in the tumour microenvironment is important for PTC prognosis. Spatial transcriptomics is a powerful technique for cellular heterogeneity study., Methods: In conjunction with a clinical pathologist identification method, spatial transcriptomics was employed to characterise the spatial location and RNA profiles of PTC-associated cells within the tissue sections. The spatial RNA-clinical signature genes for each cell type were extracted and applied to outlining the distribution regions of specific cells on the entire section. The cellular heterogeneity of each cell type was further revealed by ContourPlot analysis, monocle analysis, trajectory analysis, ligand-receptor analysis and Gene Ontology enrichment analysis., Results: The spatial distribution region of tumour cells, typical and atypical follicular cells (FCs and AFCs) and immune cells were accurately and comprehensively identified in all five PTC tissue sections. AFCs were identified as a transitional state between FCs and tumour cells, exhibiting a higher resemblance to the latter. Three tumour foci were shared among all patients out of the 13 observed. Notably, tumour foci No. 2 displayed elevated expression levels of genes associated with lower relapse-free survival in PTC patients. We discovered key ligand-receptor interactions, including LAMB3-ITGA2, FN1-ITGA3 and FN1-SDC4, involved in the transition of PTC cells from FCs to AFCs and eventually to tumour cells. High expression of these patterns correlated with reduced relapse-free survival. In the tumour immune microenvironment, reduced interaction between myeloid-derived TGFB1 and TGFBR1 in tumour focus No. 2 contributed to tumourigenesis and increased heterogeneity. The spatial RNA-clinical analysis method developed here revealed prognosis-associated cellular heterogeneity in the PTC microenvironment., Conclusions: The occurrence of tumour foci No. 2 and three enhanced ligand-receptor interactions in the AFC area/tumour foci reduced the relapse-free survival of PTC patients, potentially leading to improved prognostic strategies and targeted therapies for PTC patients., (© 2024 The Authors. Background: Gastrointestinal tract (GIT) nematodes prefer to live in the intestines of wild animals, causing damage and even death, and posing a zoonotic risk. The polyparasitism of GIT nematodes results in the complex dynamics of the nematode communities that occur naturally in wild animals. However, the nematode community in captive wild animals is poorly understood., Methods: We combined  microscopic examination and amplicon sequencing for community diversity., Results: We characterized GIT nematode assemblages to one order, one family, four genera, and ten species, in 512 fecal samples of 121 species from captive wild animals in southern China. The positive rate of GIT nematodes was 20.7% (106/512), including 42.3% (11/26) in reptiles, 26.5% (39/147) in herbivores, 25.0% (25/100) in non-human primates, 20.0% (5/25) in omnivores, 12.2% (9/74) in carnivores, and 12.1% (17/140) in avians. The dominant nematodes were Haemonchus contortus in herbivores and Trichuris species in primates. The nematode communities of arboreal primates differed from their terrestrial counterparts, reflecting both host phylogeny and ecological constraints. Soil-transmitted Strongyloides species were widespread throughout the herbivore, primate, avian, and carnivore communities, and tended to infect omnivorous primates and terrestrial herbivores. In addition, new Trichuris and Heterakis species were found in the nematode communities of captive porcupines and peafowls., Conclusion: This study highlights the variation in the composition of the GIT nematode community and strengthens the attention to the harms induced by zoonotic nematodes and co-infective nematodes with low species richness., (© 2024. Over the past decades, considerable efforts have been made to find useful solutions for phosphate pollution control. The state transition of nanomaterials from freely dispersed to encapsulated provides a realizable route for their application in phosphate elimination. The separation convenience offered by encapsulation has been widely recognized, however, the unique binding mode of nanostructures and phosphate in the confined space remains unclear, limiting its further development. Here, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) microspheres were used as hosts to deploy layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanoparticles. On this basis, we described an attempt to explore the adsorption behavior of LDH and phosphate in the microsphere space. Compared to their freely dispersed analogues, LDH particles exhibited higher structural stability, wider pH adaptability, and better phosphate selectivity when spatially confined in the CMC microsphere. Nevertheless, the kinetic process was severely inhibited by three orders of magnitude. Besides, the saturated phosphate adsorption capacity was also reduced to 74.6 % of the freely dispersed system. A combinative characterization revealed that the highly electronegative CMC host not only causes electrostatic repulsion to phosphate, but also extracts the electron density of the metal center of LDH, weakening its ability to act as a Lewis acid site for phosphate binding. Meanwhile, the microsphere encapsulation also hinders the ion exchange function of interlayer anions and phosphate. Pangolins are susceptible to a variety of gastrointestinal nematodes due to their burrowing lifestyle and feeding habits, and few parasitic nematodes have been reported. Here, a Chinese pangolin with old wounds on its leg and tail was rescued from the Heyuan City, Guangdong Province. The cox1 and SSU rRNA of the worms from the intestine of the Chinese pangolin had the highest sequence identity of 89.58% and 97.95% to the species in the infraorder Spiruromorpha. The complete mitogenome of the worm was further assembled by next-generation sequencing, with a size of 13,708 bp and a GC content of 25.6%. The worm mitogenome had the highest sequence identity of 78.56% to that of Spirocerca lupi, sharing the same gene arrangement with S. lupi and some species in other families under Spiruromorpha. However, the mitogenome between the worm and S. lupi showed differences in codon usage of PCGs, sequences of NCR, and tRNA secondary structures. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the worm mitogenome was clustered with S. lupi in the family Thelaziidae to form a separate branch. However, it is still difficult to identify the worm in the family Thelaziidae because the species in the family Thelaziidae are confused, specifically S. lupi and Thelazia callipaeda in the family Thelaziidae were separated and grouped with species from other families. Thus, the parasitic nematode from the Chinese pangolin may be a novel species in Spiruromorpha and closely related to S. lupi. Gastric cancer (GC) is a highly intricate gastrointestinal malignancy. Early detection of gastric cancer forms the cornerstone of precision medicine. Several studies have been conducted to investigate early biomarkers of gastric cancer using genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, respectively. However, endogenous substances associated with various omics are concurrently altered during gastric cancer development. Furthermore, environmental exposures and family history can also induce modifications in endogenous substances. Therefore, in this study, we primarily investigated alterations in DNA mutation, DNA methylation, mRNA, lncRNA, miRNA, circRNA, and protein, as well as glucose, amino acid, nucleotide, and lipid metabolism levels in the context of GC development, employing genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. Additionally, we elucidate the impact of exposure factors, including HP, EBV, nitrosamines, smoking, alcohol consumption, and family history, on diagnostic biomarkers of gastric cancer. Lastly, we provide a summary of the application of machine learning in integrating multi-omics data. Background: There have been few reports on whether family integrated care (FIC) can help premature infants with moderate to severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) to shorten the duration of home oxygen therapy (HOT)., Purpose: To investigate the effect of FIC on the duration of HOT in premature infants with moderate to severe BPD., Methods: The subjects were retrospectively selected from premature infants with moderate to severe BPD in our center between June 2019 and December 2021. Patients were divided into the FIC group (n = 47) and the non-FIC group (n = 34). For univariate analysis, t test, Mann-Whitney U test, Pearson χ 2 test, or Fisher exact test was performed to explore the differences between the 2 groups. For multivariate analysis, simple and multiple linear regression was conducted to explore the effect of FIC on the duration of HOT., Results: (1) The duration of HOT and length of stay after grouping were significantly shorter in the FIC group than in the non-FIC group ( P < .05). (2) The results of linear regression further revealed that FIC could significantly shorten the duration of HOT (simple linear regression, FIC [A] B : -12.709, 95% confidence interval (CI): -21.665 to -3.753; multiple linear regression, FIC [B] B : -11.419, 95% CI: -18.055 to -4.783)., Implications for Practice and Research: FIC improved the optimal target oxygen saturation ratio before discharge and shortened the duration of HOT in premature infants with moderate and severe BPD. Transcranial focused ultrasound is a novel technique for the noninvasive treatment of brain diseases. The success of the treatment greatly depends on achieving precise and efficient intraoperative focus. However, compensating for aberrated ultrasound waves caused by the skull through numerical simulation-based phase corrections is a challenging task due to the significant computational burden involved in solving the acoustic wave equation. In this article, we propose a promising strategy using the coupling of the boundary integral equation method (BIEM) and the finite element method (FEM) to overcome the above limitation. Specifically, we adopt the BIEM to obtain the Robin-to-Dirichlet maps on the boundaries of the skull and then couple the maps to the FEM matrices via a dual interpolation technique, resulting in a computational domain including only the skull. Three simulation experiments were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, including a convergence test and two skull-induced aberration corrections in 2D and 3D ultrasound. The results show that the method's convergence is guaranteed as the element size decreases, leading to a decrease in pressure error. The computation times for simulating a 500 kHz ultrasound field on a regular desktop computer were found to be 0.47 ± 0.01 s in the 2D case and 43.72 ± 1.49 s in the 3D case, provided that lower-upper decomposition (approximately 13 s in 2D and 2.5 h in 3D) was implemented in advance. We also demonstrated that more accurate transcranial focusing can be achieved by phase correction compared to the noncorrected results (with errors of 1.02 mm vs. 6.45 mm in 2D and 0.28 mm vs. 3.07 mm in 3D). Zearalenone (ZEN), a ubiquitous mycotoxin that widely occurs in grain and foodstuff may induce serious toxic effects after accumulation in vivo. Melanoidins (MLDs) have shown multiple bio-functional properties such as antioxidant, anti-bacterial and prebiotic activities. Black garlic exhibits several advantages over fresh garlic related to health improvement. In this study, the alleviative effects of black garlic MLDs on ZEN-induced toxicity and the potential mechanisms were studied using zebrafish embryonic developmental model. The results showed that MLDs restored the ZEN-induced adverse influences on zebrafish embryonic development, including delay in hatching time, morphological abnormality and the impairment of nervous development. Further studies showed that MLDs significantly inhibited the ZEN-induced production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and enhanced the intrinsic antioxidant ability by increasing the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and catalase (CAT) and the content of glutathione (GSH). In addition, co-exposure of MLDs significantly inhibited the ZEN-stimulated cellular apoptosis in zebrafish larvae through down-regulation of pro-apoptotic genes of bax, caspase-3 and caspase-9 and up-regulation of anti-apoptotic gene bcl-2. Moreover, MLDs inhibited the in vivo accumulation of ZEN in zebrafish larvae. To sum up, MLDs attenuated the ZEN-induced zebrafish embryonic developmental toxicity through suppression of the oxidative stress and intervention on mitochondria apoptosis pathway as well as inhibiting the absorption of ZEN in zebrafish embryos/larvae. A co-fermentation strategy was explored to rapidly improve the characteristic components and quality of Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (PCR) using Monascus anka and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and the enzymatic mechanism was investigated. The results showed that the free flavonoid content of fermented PCR was 48.12% higher than that of unfermented PCR after 12 days of co-fermentation, resulting in stronger antioxidant activity. d-Limonene, γ-terpinene, proline (Pro), arginine (Arg), and serine (Ser) contributed the most to the flavors of citrus, herb, and sweet citrus based on odor and taste activity value analysis. Metabolomics and multivariate statistics showed that 55 components were differentially metabolized during co-fermentation, and ten metabolic pathways were closely related to metabolism. Furthermore, five hydrolases participated in the release and conversion of the active ingredients. Self-sustained smart textiles require a miniaturized and flexible power source, while the state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery cannot be seamlessly integrated into smart textiles. Enzymatic biofuel cells (EBFC), utilizing physiological glucose or lactate as fuels to convert chemical energy into electricity, are a potential alternative power source. In comparison to other proposed energy harvesters relying on solar and biomechanical energy, EBFCs feature several key properties, including continuous power generation, biocompatible interfaces without using toxic elements, simple configuration without extra packaging, and biodegradability. There is an urgent need to introduce EBFCs to the researchers working on smart textiles, who typically are not expert on bioelectrochemistry. This minireview first introduces the working principle of EBFC and then summarizes its recent progress on fibers, yarns, and textiles. Complete mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) of plants are valuable resources for nucleocytoplasmic interactions, plant evolution, and plant cytoplasmic male sterile line breeding. However, the complete assembly of plant mitogenomes is challenging due to frequent recombination events and horizontal gene transfers. Previous studies have adopted Illumina, PacBio, and Nanopore sequencing data to assemble plant mitogenomes, but the poor assembly completeness, low sequencing accuracy, and high cost limit the sampling capacity. Here, we present an efficient assembly toolkit (PMAT) for de novo assembly of plant mitogenomes using low-coverage HiFi sequencing data. PMAT has been applied to the de novo assembly of 13 broadly representative plant mitogenomes, outperforming existing organelle genome assemblers in terms of assembly accuracy and completeness. By evaluating the assembly of plant mitogenomes from different sequencing data, it was confirmed that PMAT only requires 1× HiFi sequencing data to obtain a complete plant mitogenome. Constipation is a prevalent gastrointestinal (GI) problem affecting a large number of individuals. This study aimed to investigate peristalsis-promoting potential characteristics of Ligilactobacillus acidipiscis YJ5 and the underlying molecular mechanism. The study demonstrated the relieving effect of L. acidipiscis YJ5 on constipation in both zebrafish and mouse models. L. acidipiscis YJ5 intervention significantly increased intestinal peristalsis by reducing the peak time and increasing the fluorescence disappearance rate in the zebrafish model. In the mouse model, the symptoms of constipation relief induced by L. acidipiscis YJ5 included a shortened first black stool time, an increased number of defecation particles, an accelerated propulsion rate of the small intestine, and an increase in fecal water content. L. acidipiscis YJ5 was found to reduce the expression of colonic aquaporins to normalize the colonic water transport system of constipated mice. Additionally, L. acidipiscis YJ5 reversed loperamide-induced morphological damage in the ileum and colon and increased the colonic mucosal barrier. The results of the 16S rRNA gene analysis indicated that L. acidipiscis YJ5 could reverse the structure of gut microbiota to a near-normal group, including levels of β-diversity, phylum, family, and genus. Furthermore, the fermentation supernatant of L. acidipiscis YJ5 was shown to relieve constipation, and metabolomics analysis revealed that these positive effects were related to its metabolites like malic acid and heliangin.

Lignin-carbohydrate complexes (LCC) that exhibit both structural advantages of lignin and carbohydrates are promising amphiphilic biopolymers, but the extraction is challenged by its liable chemical bond cleavage between lignin and carbohydrates. This work proposed a facile chemical route to integrating the production of water-insoluble (WIS LCC) and water-soluble LCC (WS LCC) into the emerging deep eutectic solvent (DES) biorefinery at mild conditions. The tailored mechanochemical fractionation process of ball milling assisted aqueous alkaline DES could extract 24.2 % LCC in total, with the co-production of a highly hydrolysable cellulose fraction (98.7 % glucose conversion). The resulting LCC exhibited considerably high contents of β-O-4, phenyl glycoside, and ferulic acid linkage bonds. When 100 g starting straw was subjected to this technique route, 9.1 g WIS LCC, 15.1 g WS LCC and 45.5 g glucose were cascaded produced. It was proposed that the selective disruption of hydrogen bonding entangled network and the quasi-state dissolution of the whole biomass allowed the subsequent cascade fractionation of WIS LCC, WS LCC and highly hydrolysable cellulose through solution property adjustment. In this work, Lewis acids (FeCl 3 , AlCl 3 ) and bases (Na 2 CO 3 , Na 2 SO 3 ) were incorporated into a neutral deep eutectic solvent (DES, choline chloride/glycerin) to intensify the lignocellulose fractionation. The efficiency of fractionation in terms of the maximum delignification rate (89.7 %) and well-pleasing cellulose saccharification (100 %) could be achieved by the Lewis acid-mediated DES. An in-depth insight of the evolution of lignin structure revealed that Lewis acid-mediated DES could cleave the β-O-4 linkages efficiently to achieve a high yield lignin fragments. Meanwhile, the lignin fragments with the enhanced amphiphilic properties facilitate the preparation of lignin nanospheres (LNSs) via the self-assembly process. The resultant LNSs extracted by Lewis acid-mediated DES exhibited an excellent thermal stability, and enhanced antibacterial capacity, which were associated with the phenolic OH content. However, the extracted lignin by Lewis base-mediated DES was mainly attributed to the cleavage of lignin-carbohydrate complexes bond, especially the lignin-carbohydrate ester bond, which retained more ether bonds and a relatively complete structure. Poly (β-L-malic acid) (PMLA) is a biopolymer used in food and medical fields. However, the industrial processes are susceptible to the pollution of CaSO 4 waste and organic solvent owing to the heavy use of CaCO 3 in fermentation process and organic solvents in isolation process. This study developed an organic solvent and CaSO 4 -free process for the industrial-scale production of PMLA. Firstly, calcium ion was removed at pH 9.2 by pH adjustment with Na 2 CO 3 , and the generated CaCO 3 was reused in the fermentation process. Then, the D296 resin was selected to isolate the PMLA from the Ca 2+ -free broth, where the adsorption data were both primely described by the Freundlich and Langmuir equation, while Freundlich model better fit the process than Langmuir equation, indicating that it was non-monolayer adsorption of PMLA on the resin. Meanwhile, a three-step gradient elution with phosphate buffer (i.e., 0.2 mol/L, pH 7.0) containing 0.1, 0.2 and 1 mol/L NaCl was developed to recover PMLA. Finally, a PES15 membrane was selected to recover the PMLA from the elution solution, which could be reused in the next cycle. As a result, the PMLA with a purity of 98.89 % was obtained with the developed green process. Background: Intimate partner violence (IPV) often co-occurs with childhood maltreatment and negatively impacts children's development. While previous research has shown a direct link between these experiences and children's self-regulation, less is known about the potential unique effect and bidirectional associations between them., Objective: The present study aims to investigate the bidirectional effects among maternal IPV experiences, child maltreatment, and children's behavioral self-regulation., Participants and Setting: 4,402 participants from three waves of the longitudinal study of the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study (FFCWS) were included in the study., Methods: Cross-lagged path analyses were conducted to examine the longitudinal reciprocal relationships among IPV, child maltreatment, and children's behavioral regulation when children were 3, 5, and 9 years old., Results: IPV exposure at ages 3 and 5 was negatively associated with levels of behavioral self-regulation at ages 5 and 9, even after accounting for physical maltreatment, psychological maltreatment, or neglect. Neglect at ages 3 and 5 was found to be associated with lower levels of behavioral self-regulation at later ages, when IPV exposure was considered in the models. Lower levels of behavioral self-regulation at age 3 were found to be linked with higher levels of psychological maltreatment, physical maltreatment, neglect, and IPV exposure at age 5., Conclusion: This study revealed bidirectional effects between maternal IPV experiences, child maltreatment, and children's behavioral self-regulation. Epidemiological and interventional studies have been rarely conducted among those with positive interferon-γ release assay (IGRA) results and radiologically inactive tuberculosis (TB) lesions on chest radiograph. This study aimed to estimate the effectiveness and safety of a six-week twice-weekly regimen (rifapentine plus isoniazid) among this key population in rural China. First, chest digital radiography was conducted to screen individuals with inactive TB lesions. Then, the identified participants were further evaluated and eligible participants with IGRA-positive results were included in subsequent randomized controlled trial (RCT). Of 44,500 recruited residents, 2,988 presented with radiographically inactive TB among 43,670 with complete results of chest radiography and questionnaire, and 28.61% (855/2,988) tested IGRA positive. Subsequently, 677 eligible participants were included in this RCT (345 in the preventive treatment group and 332 in the untreated control group). The treatment completion rate was 80.00% (276/345), and 11.88% (41/345) participants reported side-effects including two cases of hepatotoxicity (0.58%, 2/345). In the intention-to-treat analysis, the cumulative incidence rate of microbiologically confirmed active TB during a two-year follow-up was 1.16 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.03-2.29) in the preventive treatment group and 1.51 (95% CI: 0.20-2.82) in the control group ( p  = .485). Subgroup analyses showed that the protective rates were 55.42% (95% CI: 10.33-93.07%) and 80.17% (95% CI: 25.36-97.96%) for participants with fibrosis and for those aged ≥60 years, respectively. The expected treatment effect was not observed for the six-week regimen in this study. Future studies with sufficient sample size are needed to verify our findings.

Mild hydrothermal pretreatment (HP) integrating with solvent extraction is a promising two-step technique to enhance the overall lignin and carbohydrate output for lignocellulose fractionation. This work comparatively assessed the coupling effect between mild HP (the first step) and the emerging acidic choline chloride-natural acid or alkaline choline hydroxide based deep eutectic solvents (DES, the second step) for wheat straw fractionation. It was shown HP with 0.3% p-toluenesulfonic acid (p-TsOH) catalyst achieved a good compromise between complete hemicellulose removal (nearly 100%) and high cellulose recovery (99.2%). While choline hydroxide based DES showed better coupling effect with HP than choline chloride-natural acid DES, corresponding to 75.6 and 31.2% lignin removal respectively. It was proposed that the alkaline DES enhanced lignocellulose swelling the lignin phenolic hydroxyl groups deprotonation and thus facilitating lignin solubilization despite of its condensation at HP. Background: This study explores and compares the influences of family communication patterns (conversation orientation and conformity orientation) on family discussion and preventive behaviors for older parents and their adult children in the context of the early COVID-19 outbreak., Methods: A total of 248 participants, including 117 parents and 131 adult children, participated in an online survey in February 2020. Participants reported family communication patterns, family discussions related to COVID-19, and their preventive behaviors., Results: Conversation orientation was positively associated with information sharing and scientific discussion for older parents and adult children. Our results revealed the differential influences of conformity orientation on older parents and adult children. Conformity orientation was positively associated with scientific discussion for older parents but was not significantly associated with any form of family discussion reported by adult children. There was a significant interaction effect of conversation orientation and conformity orientation on disputed communication within the family, suggesting that conflicts may arise in COVID-related discussions when parents and adult children value conversation and conformity. Scientific discussion was found to mediate the relationships between family communication patterns and preventive behaviors. The effects of scientific discussions were stronger for older parents than for adult children., Conclusions: Family communication patterns can be associated with preventive behaviors through different forms of family discussion about COVID-19. Conversation orientation is a strong facilitator for positive behavioral effects and scientific discussion is the most benign form of family health discussion. In plants, alternative splicing is a crucial mechanism for regulating gene expression at the post-transcriptional level, which leads to diverse proteins by generating multiple mature mRNA isoforms and diversify the gene regulation. Due to the complexity and variability of this process, accurate identification of splicing events is a vital step in studying alternative splicing. This article presents the application of alternative splicing algorithms with or without reference genomes in plants, as well as the integration of advanced deep learning techniques for improved detection accuracy.
