Oleogels have been explored as a new lipid-based delivery system, however, their insolubility and unsuitable shape severely limit their application in food systems. Herein, core-shell oleogel capsules with high monodispersity (coefficient variation (CV) < 5%)) were prepared via gravity-assisted co-flowing microfluidic device and simply air-drying. The oleogel capsules with oleogel core and ultrathin calcium-alginate shell were prepared. Oleogel capsules maintained their original shape at pH = 2.0 but swelled rapidly at pH = 6.8 and 7.4. The swelling ratio of shell can be adjusted by inner fluid flow rate (Q in ). Notably, the core with beeswax (BW) crystal network, effectively improved the stability performances and also could provide thermal response. Finally, the oleogel capsules demonstrated excellent sustained release and UV protection of lipophilic bioactives. With suitable electron-phonon coupling strength, a near-unity broadband photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) can be achieved in organic-inorganic hybrid metal halides (OIHMHs) via self-trapped exciton (STE) emission. However, it is still challenging to obtain high-quality red emission from OIHMHs with a desirable emission wavelength and high chemical stability, which hinders their practical application in high-performance displays, plant-growth lighting, and biomedical imaging. Herein, a series of hafnium-based zero-dimensional (TPP) 2 HfCl 6 ·4C 2 H 3 N (TPP: tetraphenylphosphonium) single crystals with different Sb 3+ doping levels are synthesized. The Sb 3+ -doped (TPP) 2 HfCl 6 ·4C 2 H 3 N shows dual-band red emission with a full width at half-maximum of 178 nm and a high PLQY of 91.09%. This broad dual-band emission originates from dopant-induced extrinsic free excitons and STEs. Furthermore, (TPP) 2 HfCl 6 ·4C 2 H 3 N:Sb 3+ was employed as a luminescence converter in a light-emitting diode (LED) for plant growth regulation. A correlated color temperature of 4055 K and a color rendering index of 82.13 were achieved upon excitation of the LED at 365 nm. These results provide fundamental perspectives on the emission behavior of Sb 3+ -doped OIHMHs and illustrate their promise for use in plant-growth lighting.

Background/objectives: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of B-scan kinetic ultrasonography (USG), standard ultra-widefield (UWF) imaging, and indirect ophthalmoscopy (IDO) in retinal break detection in cataractous eyes., Subjects/methods: We consecutively enrolled 126 cataract patients (including 246 eyes) with no comorbidities that could decrease best corrected visual acuity (BCVA). Three index tests (USG, nonmydriatic UWF, and mydriatic IDO) were performed preoperatively to screen for retinal breaks. One week after cataract extraction, a dilated IDO examination was repeated for the definitive diagnosis of retinal break as the reference standard. The sensitivity, specificity, Youden index (YI), and predictive values of each index test were calculated according to postoperative ophthalmoscopic findings. A deep-learning nomogram was developed to quantify the risk of retinal break presence using patients' baseline data and findings reported from preoperative ophthalmic tests., Results: Fifty-two eyes (21%) were excluded from appropriate preoperative UWF imaging because of massive lens opacity. The BCVA cutoff point with maximum YI indicating UWF applicability was 0.6 logMAR (YI = 0.3; area under curve [AUC] = 0.7). Among all 246 eyes, preoperative IDO, USG, and UWF showed fair interobserver agreement (all κ > 0.2). According to postoperative IDO findings, the index tests with the highest sensitivity and specificity were USG (100%) and preoperative IDO (99%), respectively., Conclusions: For cataractous eyes without vision-impairing comorbidities, a BCVA better than 0.6 logMAR (Snellen acuity, 20/80) allows for appropriate nonmydriatic standard UWF imaging. A study was conducted to investigate whether an integrated management (IM) model led by public healthcare providers is effective in reducing cardiovascular disease (CVD)-specific and all-cause mortality rates in low-income rural populations with hypertension. The study recruited 14,234 patients with hypertension aged 18 years or older and allocated them to either an IM group or a usual care (UC) group. During a median follow-up of 48.0 months, the incidences of CVD-specific and all-cause deaths were lower in the IM group than in the UC group. The hazard ratios for CVD-specific mortality and all-cause mortality among patients in the IM group were 0.60 and 0.62, respectively. Background: No research report has been conducted to investigate the impact of oxidation balance score (OBS) on the estimated pulse wave velocity(ePWV).We aimed to examine the association between OBS and ePWV., Method: We evaluated data for 13,073 patients from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The exposure variable was OBS. The outcome variables was combination of ePWV and arterial stiffness., Results: We observed a significant negative correlation between OBS (Per 1SD increase) and ePWV in the gradually adjusted models. Based on the aforementioned results, a two-piecewise logistic regression adjusted model was subsequently employed to establish the association between OBS and elevated ePWV, and the inflection point was determined as 5. The increased risk of elevated ePWV (OR:0.70; 95%CI:0.51-0.94) gradually decreases with the increase of OBS on the left side of the inflection point; however, when OBS exceeds 5, this decrease in risk of elevated ePWV(OR:1.00; 95%CI:0.96-1.04) is no longer observed (P for log likelihood ratio test = 0.028)., Conclusions: There exists a significant association between OBS and ePWV in the context of American adults. Automotive interiors have been identified as significant sources of various chemicals, yet their occupational hazards for end-of-life vehicle (ELV) dismantlers remain poorly characterized. Herein, eight classes of plasticizers, including 11 phthalates esters (PAEs) and 16 non-phthalates esters (NPAEs), were detected in dust samples from inside and outside ELV dismantling workshops. Moreover, indoor dust from ordinary households and university dormitories was compared. The indoor dust from the ELV dismantling workshops contained the highest concentrations of plasticizers (median: 594 μg/g), followed by ordinary households (296 µg/g), university dormitories (186 µg/g), and outdoor dust (157 µg/g). PAEs remained the dominant plasticizers, averaging 11.7-fold higher than their NPAE alternatives. Specifically, diisononyl phthalate and trioctyl trimellitate were notably elevated in workshop dust, being 15.5 and 4.78 times higher, respectively, than in ordinary household dust, potentially indicating their association with ELV dismantling activities. The estimated daily intake of occupational ELV dismantling workers was up to five times higher than that of the general population. Moreover, certain dominant NPAEs demonstrated nuclear receptor interference abilities comparable to typical PAEs, suggesting potential toxic effects. While significant efforts in surface engineering have been devoted to the conversion process of lead iodide (PbI 2 ) into perovskite and top surface engineering of perovskite layer with remarkable progress, the exploration of residual PbI 2 clusters and the hidden bottom surface on perovskite layer have been limited. In this work, a new strategy involving 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate (BMIMAc) ionic liquid (IL) additives is developed and it is found that both the cations and the anions in ILs can interact with the perovskite components, thereby regulating the crystallization process and diminishing the residue PbI 2 clusters as well as filling vacancies. The introduction of BMIMAc ILs induces the formation of a uniform porous PbI 2 film, facilitating better penetration of the second-step organic salt and fostering a more extensive interaction between PbI 2 and the organic salt. Surprisingly, the oversized residual PbI 2 clusters at the bottom surface of the perovskite layer completely diminish. In addition, advanced depth analysis techniques including depth-resolved grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS) and bottom thinning technology are employed for a comprehensive understanding of the reduction in residual PbI 2 . Background: While previous population studies have shown that higher triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index values are associated with an increased risk of congestive heart failure (CHF), the relationship between TyG and CHF in patients with abnormal glucose metabolism remains understudied. This study aimed to evaluate the association between TyG and CHF in individuals with diabetes and prediabetes., Methods: The study population was derived from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning from 1999 to 2018. The exposure variable, TyG, was calculated based on triglyceride and fasting blood glucose levels, while the outcome of interest was CHF. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed to assess the association between TyG and CHF., Results: A total of 13,644 patients with diabetes and prediabetes were included in this study. The results from the fitting curve analysis demonstrated a non-linear U-shaped correlation between TyG and CHF. Additionally, linear logistic regression analysis showed that each additional unit of TyG was associated with a non-significant odds ratio (OR) of 1.03 (95%CI: 0.88-1.22, P = 0.697) for the prevalence of CHF. A two-piecewise logistic regression model was used to calculate the threshold effect of the TyG. The log likelihood ratio test (p < 0.05) indicated that the two-piecewise logistic regression model was superior to the single-line logistic regression model. The TyG tangent point was observed at 8.60, and on the left side of this point, there existed a negative correlation between TyG and CHF (OR: 0.54, 95%CI: 0.36-0.81). Conversely, on the right side of the inflection point, a significant 28% increase in the prevalence of CHF was observed per unit increment in TyG (OR: 1.28, 95%CI: 1.04-1.56)., Conclusions: The findings from this study suggest a U-shaped correlation between TyG and CHF, indicating that both elevated and reduced levels of TyG are associated with an increased prevalence of CHF., (© 2024. Various monovalent cations are employed to construct metal halide perovskites with various structures and functionalities. However, perovskites based on highly polar A-site cations have seldom been reported. Here, a novel hybrid 0D (NH 4 ) x (OH 3 ) 3- x InCl 6 perovskite with highly polar hydronium OH 3 + cations is introduced in this study. Upon doping with Sb 3+ , hybrid 0D (NH 4 ) x (OH 3 ) 3- x InCl 6 single crystals exhibited highly efficient broadband yellowish-green (550 nm) and red (630 nm) dual emissions with a PLQY of 86%. The dual emission arises due to Sb 3+ occupying two sites within the crystal lattice that possess different polarization environments, leading to distinct Stokes shift energies. The study revealed that lattice polarity plays a significant role in the self-trapped exciton emission of Sb 3+ -doped perovskites, contributing up to 25% of the Stokes shift energy for hybrid 0D (NH 4 ) x (OH 3 ) 3- x InCl 6 :Sb 3+ as a secondary source, in addition to the Jahn-Teller deformation. These findings highlight the potential of Sb 3+ -doped perovskites for achieving tunable broadband emission and underscore the importance of lattice polarity in determining the emission properties of perovskite materials.

Plasma total homocysteine (tHcy) and kidney function are both associated with mortality risk, but the degree to which kidney function modifies the impact of tHcy on mortality remains unknown. This prospective cohort study included a total of 14,225 hypertensive adults. Cox proportional hazard regression was used to analyze the separate and combined association of tHcy and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with all-cause and cause-specific mortality. Mediation analysis was conducted to explore the mediating effect of eGFR. During a median follow-up of 4.0 years, 805 deaths were identified, including 397 deaths from cardiovascular disease (CVD). There were significant, positive relationships of tHcy with all-cause mortality (per 5 μmol/L; HR: 1.09; 95% CI: 1.07, 1.11), CVD mortality (HR: 1.11; 95% CI: 1.08, 1.13), and non-CVD mortality (HR: 1.07; 95% CI: 1.04, 1.10). The proportions of eGFR mediating these relationships were 39.1%, 35.7%, and 49.7%, respectively. There were additive interactions between tHcy and eGFR. Compared with those with low tHcy (<15 μmol/L) and high eGFR (≥90 mL·min -1 ·1.73 m -2 ), participants with high tHcy (≥20 μmol/L) and low eGFR (<60 mL·min -1 ·1.73 m -2 ) had the highest risk of all-cause mortality (HR: 4.89; 95% CI: 3.81, 6.28), CVD mortality (HR: 5.80; 95% CI: 4.01, 8.40), and non-CVD mortality (HR: 4.25; 95% CI: 3.02, 5.97). In conclusion, among Chinese hypertensive adults, high tHcy and impaired kidney function were independently and jointly associated with higher risks of all-cause and cause-specific mortality. Ionic liquids (ILs) have emerged as versatile tools for interfacial engineering in perovskite photovoltaics. Their multifaceted application targets defect mitigation at SnO 2 -perovskite interfaces, finely tuning energy level alignment, and enhancing charge transport, meanwhile suppressing non-radiative recombination. However, the diverse chemical structures of ILs present challenges in selecting suitable candidates for effective interfacial modification. This study adopted a systematic approach, manipulating IL chemical structures. Three ILs with distinct anions are introduced to modify perovskite/SnO 2 interfaces to elevate the photovoltaic capabilities of perovskite devices. Specifically, ILs with different anions exhibited varied chemical interactions, leading to notable passivation effects, as confirmed by Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculation. A detailed analysis is also conducted on the relationship between the ILs' structure and regulation of energy level arrangement, work function, perovskite crystallization, interface stress, charge transfer, and device performance. By optimizing IL chemical structures and exploiting their multifunctional interface modification properties, the champion device achieved a PCE of 24.52% with attentional long-term stability. Objective: Current evidence of the dose-response association between the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is limited. Hence, this study aimed to determine the association between GNRI and CKD in the elderly Chinese population with hypertension., Methods: Data were derived from the China H-type Hypertension Registry. A total of 9,897 elderly patients with hypertension were included in the cross-sectional analysis. GNRI was calculated using the serum albumin and weight loss and the specific formula was as follows: GNRI = [1.489 × serum albumin (g/L)] + [41.7 × (actual weight/ideal weight)]. The outcome of our study was CKD, which was defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate value of <60 mL/minute/1.73 m 2 . The association between the GNRI and CKD was analyzed using multivariate logistic regression., Results: The present study population was composed of 9,897 participants with an average age of 68.67 (6.10) years. In particular, it was consisted of 4,683 (47.32%) male and 5,214 (52.68%) female participants. Overall, there was a significantly negative association between GNRI and CKD prevalence (per 1 increment; adjusted odds ratio [OR], 0.96; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.95-0.97). In a fully adjusted model, compared with the participants in the highest group tertiles 3 (GNRI ≥112), the participants in group tertiles 1 (GNRI <106) and group tertiles 2 (GNRI ≥106 ≤ 112) increased the prevalence of CKD by 57% (OR 1.57, 95% CI: 1.28-1.93) and 5% (OR 1.05, 95% CI: 0.86-1.28), respectively. Background: Whether the estimated pulse wave velocity (ePWV) in Chinese patients with hypertension can serve as an independent predictor of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality remains unknown. Therefore, this study investigated the associations between ePWV and cardiovascular and all-cause mortalities and explored potential effect modifiers influencing these relationships. Finally, we compared the ePWV with the brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) to determine which parameter better predicts mortality., Methods: The population of this longitudinal cohort study was selected from the China H-type Hypertension Registry Study. The exposure and outcome variables were ePWV and all-cause and cardiovascular mortalities, respectively. The Cox proportional hazard regression model was applied to assess the associations between ePWV and all-cause and cardiovascular mortalities. The performances of ePWV and baPWV in predicting death were compared using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve area, net reclassification improvement index (NRI), and integrated discrimination improvement index (IDI)., Results: This prospective study enrolled 14,232 patients with hypertension. Following an average follow-up of 48 months, 806 individuals succumbed to all-cause mortality, with 397 cases specifically attributed to cardiovascular diseases. The Cox proportional regression analysis revealed a significant association between a 1 m/s increase in ePWV and a 37% higher risk of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.37, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.31-1.43) as well as a 52% higher risk of cardiovascular mortality (HR: 1.52, 95% CI: 1.43-1.62) in the fully adjusted model. The findings for ePWV according to quartile demonstrated hazard ratios for all-cause mortality for Q2 (10.25 < ePWV < 11.32), Q3 (11.32 < ePWV < 12.40), and Q4 (ePWV ≥ 12.40) of 1.50 (HR: 1.50, 95% CI: 1.07-2.10), 2.34 (HR: 2.34, 95% CI: 1.73-3.18), and 4.09 (HR: 4.09, 95% CI: 3.05-5.49), respectively, compared with Q1 (ePWV < 10.25). The risk of cardiovascular death also increased in proportion to the rise in ePWV. The results of the area under the ROC curve, NRI, and IDI all indicated that ePWV outperformed baPWV in predicting mortality. The results of the subgroup analysis demonstrated that body mass index (BMI) and hypoglycemic drug use modified the association between ePWV and mortality., Conclusions: The performance of ePWV in predicting all-cause and cardiovascular mortalities was superior to that of baPWV alone. Patients who were overweight or obese with higher ePWV values exhibited a significantly increased risk of all-cause death. Background: Rapid progressive interstitial lung disease (RP-ILD) is the leading cause of anti-melanoma differentiation associated protein 5 antibody positive dermatomyositis (anti-MDA5 + DM) related death. Elevated serum B-cell activating factor (BAFF) levels have been implicated in connective tissue diseases associated ILD. Here, we evaluate whether BAFF could be a prognostic biomarker for predicting RP-ILD in anti-MDA5 + DM patients., Methods: Serums were collected from 39 patients with anti-MDA5 + DM (20 with RP-ILD and 19 with non-RP-ILD), 20 antisynthase syndrome (ASS) patients and 20 healthy controls (HC). BAFF concentration was measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay., Results: Serum BAFF level was higher in anti-MDA5 + DM patients than those in ASS patients and HC (3882.32 ± 1880.09 vs. 2540.89 ± 1403.04 and 2486.28 ± 767.97 pg/mL, p = 0.0056 and 0.0038, respectively). Within anti-MDA5 + DM groups, RP-ILD patients exhibited higher BAFF concentration than non-RP-ILD group (4549.78 ± 1839.97 vs. 3297.28 ± 1794.69 pg/mL, p = 0.04). The BAFF concentration was positively correlated with levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), dehydrogenase (LDH) and cytokeratin (CK) in anti-MDA5 + DM patients (r = 0.350, p = 0.035; r = 0.393, p = 0.016; r = 0.518, p = 0.001; respectively). The best cut-off value of BAFF concentration was 2971.5 pg/mL by ROC curve (AUC area = 0.690, p = 0.045) and BAFF > 2971.5 pg/mL was an independent risk factor for RP-ILD using multivariate analysis (OR = 9.389, 95% CI = 1.609-54.769; p = 0.013)., Conclusions: Serum BAFF could be a useful prognostic biomarker for early detecting RP-ILD risk in anti-MDA5 + DM patients., (© 2024. This study investigated the molecular mechanism underlying the binding interaction between apigenin (API) and α-glucosidase (α-glu) by a combination of experimental techniques and computational simulation strategies. The spontaneously formation of stable API-α-glu complex was mainly driven by hydrogen bonds and hydrophobic forces, leading to a static fluorescence quenching of α-glu. The binding of API induced secondary structure and conformation changes of α-glu, decreasing the surface hydrophobicity of protein. Computational simulation results demonstrated that API could bind into the active cavity of α-glu via its interaction with active residues at the binding site. The important roles of key residues responsible for the binding stability and affinity between API and α-glu were further revealed by MM/PBSA results. In addition, it can be found that the entrance of active site tended to close after API binding as a result of its interaction with gate keeping residues. Furthermore, the structural basis for the binding interaction behavior of API was revealed and visualized by weak interaction analysis. Increased plasma homocysteine (Hcy) has been identified as one of the important risk factors for cardiovascular disease. However, the association between plasma Hcy and peripheral artery disease (PAD) is still controversial. This study aimed to investigate the association between plasma Hcy and PAD and the potential modifier factors in Chinese hypertensive adults. A total of 25 300 hypertensive patients aged 18 years or older were included in the analysis in this cross-sectional study. The outcome was PAD, which defined as an ankle-brachial index ≤0.90 in either limb. Multiple logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between plasma Hcy and PAD. The median plasma Hcy was 14.00 (interquartile range: 11.60-17.80) μmol/L. There was a significant positive association between plasma Hcy and PAD (per SD increment; OR: 1.13; 95% CI: 1.06-1.19). Patients in the upper plasma Hcy tertile (≥16.16 μmol/L) were associated with a 53% increased risk of PAD compared with patients in the lower tertile (<12.33 μmol/L) after adjustment for multiple potential confounders. Subgroup analyses showed the association between Hcy and PAD was robust among various strata. Among Chinese adults with hypertension, plasma Hcy is an independent risk factor for PAD. Introduction: Coptidis Rhizoma (CR) is one of the most frequently used herbs to treat ulcerative colitis (UC) and is often processed before usage. However, the composition changes and therapeutic effects of CR before and after processing in the treatment of UC are still unclear., Objective: The purpose of the study is to explore the chemical components and therapeutic effects of crude and processed CR., Material and Methods: CR was processed according to the 2020 version of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. The liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and multivariate statistical analysis were used to screen the different compounds before and after processing. The network pharmacological prediction was carried out. The mechanism and therapeutic effects between crude and processed CR were verified by using dextran sulphate sodium-induced UC mice assay., Results: Ten compounds distinguish crude and processed CR based on multivariate statistical analysis. Network pharmacology predicts that the 10 compounds mainly play a role through TNF-α and IL-6 targets and PI3K/Akt and HIF-1 signalling pathways, and these results are verified by molecular biology experiments. For IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-α inflammatory factors, CR is not effective, while CR stir-fried with Evodiae Fructus (CRFE) and ginger juice (CRGJ) are. For PI3K/p-Akt, Cleaved caspase3, NF- κBp65 and HIF-1α signalling pathways, CR has therapeutic effects, while CRFE and CRGJ are significant., Conclusion: Overall, CRFE and CRGJ show better effects in treating UC. Background: Daily diet represents a potentially modifiable factor in the development of depression. However, to date, no studies have investigated the impact of dietary active microorganisms on depressive symptoms. The aim of this study is to explore the relationship between these two factors., Methods: Population data from NHANES 2005-2018 indicated that the exposure variable was dietary intake of active microbes, while the outcome variable was depression as defined by a 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) score. A multivariate logistic regression model was employed to assess the impact of dietary living microbe intake on depression symptoms., Results: A total of 19,169 American adults with a mean age of 46.89 years (SD = 16.97) were included in this cross-sectional analysis; among them, 53.84 % were male and 8.11 % (n = 1555) met the criteria for depression symptoms. In the fully adjusted model, patients with medium and high dietary living microbe intake exhibited a significant reduction in depression symptoms prevalence by 28 % (OR, 0.72; 95 % CI: 0.64-0.81) and 26 % (OR, 0.74; 95 % CI: 0.63-0.85), respectively, compared to those with low dietary living microbe intake. Background: The impact of triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index variations on chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression remains unexplored. To investigate the effects of the TyG index and its dynamic changes on CKD progression., Method: This prospective cohort study included data from 8,418 hypertensive participants. The exposure variable in this study was defined as the difference between the TyG index at the last visit from that at baseline. The study's outcome variable was the progression of CKD, defined as follows: for subjects with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥60 mL/min, a ≥30% decrease in eGFR with a final follow-up value <60 mL/min; for those with an eGFR <60 mL/min, a ≥50% decrease in eGFR; or terminal renal failure requiring dialysis., Results: During a median follow-up period of 48 months, 1077 patients were diagnosed with CKD progression. In the fully adjusted Model 3, patients with a change in the TyG index <0 exhibited a significantly decreased 13% risk of CKD progression (HR: 0.87, 95% CI: 0.76-0.98) compared to those with a change in the TyG index≥0 group. Subgroup analyses showed that changes in the TyG index significantly increased the risk of CKD progression only in patients with diastolic blood pressure (DBP) <90mmHg. Ionic liquids (ILs) are extensively utilized for the manipulation of crystallization kinetics of perovskite, morphology optimization, and defect passivation for the fabrication of highly efficient and stable devices. However, comparing ILs with different chemical structures and selecting the appropriate ILs from the many types available to enhance perovskite device performance remains a challenge. In this study, a range of ILs containing different sizes of anions are introduced as additives for assisting in film formation in perovskite photovoltaics. Specifically, ILs with various sizes significantly affects the strength of chemical interaction between ILs and perovskite composition, inducing varying degrees of conversion of lead iodide to perovskite as well as the formation of perovskite films with markedly disparate grain sizes and morphology. Theoretical calculations in conjunction with experimental measurements revealed that small-sized anion can more effectively reduce defect density by filling halide vacancies within perovskite bulk materials, resulting in suppression of charge-carrier recombination, an extended photoluminescence lifetime, and significantly improved device performance. Ectopia lentis is a hallmark of Marfan syndrome (MFS), a genetic connective tissue disorder affecting 1/5000 to 1/10 000 individuals worldwide. Early detection in ophthalmology clinics and timely intervention of cardiovascular complications can be lifesaving. In this study, a modified proteomics workflow with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)-based data-independent acquisition (DIA) and field asymmetric ion mobility spectrometry (FAIMS) to profile the proteomes of aqueous humor (AH) and lens tissue from MFS children with ectopia lentis is utilized. Over 2300 and 2938 comparable proteins are identified in AH and the lens capsule, respectively. Functional enrichment analyses uncovered dysregulation of complement and coagulation-related pathways, collagen binding, and cell adhesion in MFS. Through weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) and machine learning, distinct modules associated with clinical traits are constructed and a unique biomarker panel (Q14376, Q99972, P02760, Q07507; gene names: GALE, MYOC, AMBP, DPT) is defined. These biomarkers are further validated using advanced parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) in an independent patient cohort. Background and Aims: Current evidence on the relationship between dietary carotenoids intake (DCI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are limited. Moreover, whether there is an association between DCI and prevalence of CKD and how this association might be impacted by sex is not clear., Methods and Results: Overall, 4507 women and 4396 men were included for analysis. The study used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a cross-sectional survey carried out in the USA. The exposure factor for this analysis was DCI. The outcome was CKD, defined as eGFR < 60mL/min/1.73 m 2 . Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyzed the associations of DCI and prevalence of CKD both in men and women. There was a significant inverse association between higher DCI and prevalence of CKD only among females. Per LgDCI unit increment, the multivariable adjusted odd ratio (OR) (95% confidence interval) for prevalence of CKD was 0.72 (0.58, 0.90) in females and 0.95 (0.77, 1.18) in males. When compared with the lowest quartile, the ORs of the highest quartile of DCI for prevalence of CKD were 0.59 (0.40, 0.87) in females and 0.87 (0.60, 1.26) in males. Background: Anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene five antibody positive (MDA5 + ) dermatomyositis (DM) is significantly associated with rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (RP-ILD). Early detection of RP-ILD remains a major challenge. This study aims to identify and validate prognostic factors for RP-ILD in MDA5 + DM patients., Methods: Plasma samples from 20 MDA5 + DM patients and 10 healthy controls (HC) were collected for proteomic analysis using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis. The proteins of interest were validated in independent samples (20 HC, 20 MDA5 + DM with RP-ILD, and 20 non-RP-ILD patients) with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)., Results: A total of 413 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were detected between the MDA5 + DM patients and HC. When comparing DEPs between RP-ILD and non-RP-ILD patients, 79 proteins were changed in RP-ILD patients, implicating acute inflammatory response, coagulation, and complement cascades. Six candidate biomarkers were confirmed with ELISA. Secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1), serum amyloid A1 (SAA1), and Kininogen 1 (KNG1) concentrations were significantly elevated in RP-ILD patients than those in non-RP-ILD patients and HC. In the different clinical subgroups, SPP1 was particularly elevated in the high-risk RP-ILD subgroup of MDA5 + DM., Conclusion: This study provides novel insights into the pathogenesis of RP-ILD development in MDA5 + DM and suggests the plasma protein SPP1 could serve as a potential blood biomarker for RP-ILD early warning., (© 2023. Vascular calcification (VC) is a known predictor of cardiovascular events in patients with atherosclerosis and chronic renal disease. However, the exact relationship between VC and cardiovascular mortality remains unclear. Herein, we investigated the underlying mechanisms between VC progression, arterial stiffness, and cardiac dysfunction. C57BL/6 mice were administered intraperitoneally vitamin D 3 (VD 3 ) at a dosage of 35×10 4 IU/day for 14 days. At day 42, VC extent, artery elasticity, carotid artery blood flow, aorta pulse propagation velocity, cardiac function, and pathological changes were evaluated. Heart apoptosis was detected using TUNEL and immunohistochemistry staining. In vitro , rat cardiomyocytes H9C2 were exposed to media from calcified rat vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) cultured in calcification medium, and then H9C2 apoptosis and gene expression related to cardiac function were assessed. VD 3 -treated mice displayed a significant aortic calcification, increased pulse propagation velocity of aortae, and reduced cardiac function. Aortae showed increased calcification and elastolysis, with increased heart apoptosis. Hearts demonstrated higher levels of ANP, BNP, MMP2, and lower levels of bcl2/bax. Moreover, calcified rat VSMC media induced H9C2 apoptosis and upregulated genes expression linked to cardiac dysfunction. Objectives: The objective was to explore the association between serum copper levels and the prevalence of stroke., Methods: Data were obtained from 3 consecutive National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) cycles (2011-2016). Weighted multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted to evaluate the association between serum copper levels and self-reported stroke., Results: A total of 5,151 adults met the inclusion criteria. A total of 181 (3.51%) stroke patients were identified. In comparison to individuals with serum copper levels in the lowest tertile (<16.4 µmol/l), those with levels in the middle tertile (16.4-19.8 µmol/l) had an odds ratio (OR) of 0.99 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.44-2.25), while those with levels in the highest tertile (>19.8 µmol/l) had an OR of 2.36 (95% CI: 1.01-5.52). Furthermore, each standard deviation (SD) increase in serum copper was found to be positively associated with the prevalence of stroke, with an OR of 1.44 (95% CI: 1.11-1.86). Issue Addressed: More attention to the diet and nutritional status of international students in Australian universities is indicated. This qualitative research aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of dietary changes among international students after they arrived in Australia., Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with international students from China and India who were studying at a large urban Australian university. An approach of interpretative phenomenological analysis was employed for coding and data analysis., Results: A total of 14 interviews were included. International students were able to consume more international foods, dairy products and animal proteins in Australia as a result of increased exposure to a larger variety of these foods compared with their home countries. However, they experienced some difficulties in eating vegetables and authentic traditional foods due to limited availability and higher prices in Australia. It was challenging for these students to live independently and cook for themselves for the first time and with a limited food budget and time, but many students improved their cooking skills over time. Less frequent main meals with more snacking sessions were reported. Weight fluctuations were commonly experienced and craving for traditional foods no longer accessible may negatively impact mental health., Conclusions: International students adapted to the Australian food environment but believed the food choices available did not meet their food preferences or perhaps nutritional requirements., So What: Some intervention from universities and/or government may be needed to ease the barriers to consumption of affordable and desirable meals in a time-saving manner for international students., (© 2023 The Authors. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been investigated recently in perovskite photovoltaics owing to their potential to boost optoelectronic performance and device stability. However, the impact of variations in the MOF side chain on perovskite characteristics and the mechanism of MOF/perovskite film formation remains unclear. In this study, three nanoscale thiol-functionalized UiO-66-type Zr-based MOFs (UiO-66-(SH) 2 , UiO-66-MSA, and UiO-66-DMSA) are systematically employed and examined in perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Among these MOFs, UiO-66-(SH) 2 , with its rigid organic ligands, exhibited a strong interaction with perovskite materials with more efficient suppression of perovskite vacancy defects. More importantly, A detailed and in-depth discussion is provided on the formation mechanism of UiO-66-(SH) 2 -assisted perovskite film upon in situ GIWAXS performed during the annealing process. The incorporation of UiO-66-(SH) 2 additives substantially facilitates the conversion of PbI 2 into the perovskite phase, prolongs the duration of stage I, and induces a delayed phase transformation pathway. Consequently, the UiO-66-(SH) 2 -assisted device demonstrates reduced defect density and superior optoelectronic properties with optimized power conversion efficiency of 24.09% and enhanced long-term stability under ambient environment and continuous light illumination conditions. Organic-inorganic hybrid halides and their analogs that exhibit efficient broadband emission from self-trapped excitons (STEs) offers an unique pathway towards realization of highly efficient white light sources for lighting applications. An appropriate dilution of ns 2 ions into a halide host is essential to produce auxiliary emissions. However, the realization of ns 2 cation-based halides phosphor that can be excited by blue light-emitting diode (LED) is still rarely reported. In this study, a zero-dimensional Te-based single crystal (C 8 H 20 N) 2 TeCl 6 was synthesized, which exhibits a yellow-orange emission centered at 600 nm with a full width at half maximum of 130 nm upon excitation under 437 nm. Intense electron-phonon coupling was confirmed in the (C 8 H 20 N) 2 TeCl 6 single crystal and the light emitting mechanism is comprehensively discussed. The results of this study are pertinent to the emissive mechanism of Te-based hybrid halides and can facilitate discovery of unidentified metal halides with broadband excitation features.

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) suffer from limited ion diffusion and structural expansion, generating the urgent demand for Na + accommodable materials with promising architectures. In this work, the rational exploration for Co 4 S 3 nanoparticles confined in an MnS nanorod-grafted N, S-codoped carbon polyhedron (Co-Mn-S@N-S-C) is achieved by the in situ growth of MOF on MnO 2 nanorod along with the subsequent carbonization and sulfurization. Benefiting from the distinctive nanostructure, the Co-Mn-S@N-S-C anode delivers excellent structural stability, resulting in prolonged cycling stability with a capacity retention of 90.2% after 1000 cycles at 2 A g -1 . Moreover, the reaction storage mechanism is clarified by the in situ X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements. The results indicate that properly designed electrode materials have huge potential applications for highly efficient energy storage devices.

Objectives: The aim of this article is to explore the differences in the prevalence, sociodemographic determinants, and effects of food insecurity between international and domestic students in an Australian university during the COVID-19 pandemic., Methods: This study uses a cross-sectional online survey. The questionnaire contained the 18-item Household Food Security Survey Module to assess food security status. Logistic regression models were used to analyze the associations between student characteristics and food insecurity. A total of 467 students (376 domestic and 91 international) attending a large university in Sydney completed the survey between October 2021 and May 2022., Results: Compared with domestic students (13.0% food insecure), international students (18.7% food insecure) had higher odds of being food insecure in our sample (odds ratio = 2.02; 95% CI, 1.01-4.07; P = 0.013). Different risk factors for food insecurity were identified in these two student groups (e.g., being undergraduates and living outside the parental home, for domestic students, and, for international students, living in accommodation that provided meals that did not suit their preferences and experiencing changes in living arrangements due to the pandemic). Lower fruit intake was reported by food-insecure domestic students. Poor well-being was reported by both food-insecure domestic and international students. International students with food insecurity were more likely to use food assistance services than food-insecure domestic students., Conclusions: International students experienced a higher risk of food insecurity than domestic students during the pandemic in Australia. Background and Aims: Research reports on the relationship between systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and hypertension are limited. We aim to evaluate the possible relationship between SII and hypertension., Methods and Results: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of adults from the National Nutrition and Health Database from 2017 to 2020. In this study, 13 742 participants were included. The exposure variable in this study was the systemic inflammatory state as defined by SII and an outcome was hypertension. There is a nonlinear association between SII and hypertension. Two piecewise logistic regression models were used to analyze the relationship between them and calculated the cut-off point of SII to be 501.2. We found that SII on the left side of the cut-off point has nothing to do with the prevalence of hypertension. However, in patients with SII at least 501.2, the prevalence of hypertension increased with the increase of SII (odds ratio, 3.13; 95% confidence interval, 2.04-4.81). Limited data exists on the association between Direct bilirubin (DBIL) and Indirect bilirubin (IBIL) with the risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD) among patients with hypertension. This study aimed to assess the relationship between DBIL and IBIL with the risk of CKD in a cohort of Chinese adults diagnosed with hypertension. This study included 14 182 Chinese patients with hypertension between the ages of 27 and 96. CKD, the outcome variable, was defined by an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) <60 mL/min/1.73 m 2 . The study employed multivariate linear and multivariate logistic regression analysis to evaluate the correlation between DBIL and IBIL with the risk of CKD. The prevalence of CKD in the study population was 9.77%. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the increase in DBIL (OR: 0.66; 95% CI: 0.61, 0.71) and IBIL (OR: 0.75; 95% CI: 0.71, 0.81) were independently and negatively correlated with CKD. Further analyses using a restricted cubic spline (smooth-fitting curve) confirmed the linearly negative association between DBIL and IBIL with the risk of CKD. The subgroup analysis showed that the correlation between IBIL and CKD was stronger among men and populations <65 years of age (p for interaction <.05). DBIL and IBIL were independently and negatively associated with CKD. Furthermore, the correlation between DBIL and IBIL with CKD in the hypertensive population is more significant in those under 65 years of age. Sodium metal has emerged as a highly promising anode material for sodium-based batteries, owing to its intrinsic advantages, including its high theoretical capacity, low working plateau and low cost. However, the uncontrolled formation of sodium dendrites accompanied by unrestricted volume expansion severely limits its application. To tackle these issues, we propose an approach to address these issues by adopting a three-dimensional (3D) structure of Ti 3 C 2 T x /reduced graphene oxide (Ti 3 C 2 T x /rGO) constructed by a direct-ink writing (DIW) 3D printing technique as the Na metal anode host electrode. The combination of the 3D-printed rGO skeleton offering artificial porous structures and the incorporation of sodiophilic Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets provides abundant nucleation sites and promotes uniform sodium metal deposition. This specially designed architecture significantly enhances the Na metal cycling stability by effectively inhibiting dendrite formation. The experimental results show that the designed Ti 3 C 2 T x /rGO electrode can achieve a high coulombic efficiency (CE) of 99.91% after 1800 cycles (3600 h) at 2 mA cm -2 with 2 mA h cm -2 . Notably, the adopted electrodes exhibit a long life span of more than 1400 h with a high CE over 99.93% when measured with an ultra-high capacity of 50 mA h cm -2 at 5 mA cm -2 . Furthermore, a 3D-printed full cell consisting of a Na@Ti 3 C 2 T x /rGO anode and a 3D-printed Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 C-rGO (NVP@C-rGO) cathode was successfully demonstrated. This 3D-printed cell could provide a notable capacity of 85.3 mA h g -1 at 100 mA g -1 after 500 cycles. The exceptional electrochemical performance achieved by the 3D-printed full cell paves the way for the development of practical sodium metal anodes.

Two-dimensional (2D) semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) represent the ultimate thickness for scaling down channel materials. They provide a tantalizing solution to push the limit of semiconductor technology nodes in the sub-1 nm range. One key challenge with 2D semiconducting TMD channel materials is to achieve large-scale batch growth on insulating substrates of single crystals with spatial homogeneity and compelling electrical properties. Recent studies have claimed the epitaxy growth of wafer-scale, single-crystal 2D TMDs on a c-plane sapphire substrate with deliberately engineered off-cut angles. It has been postulated that exposed step edges break the energy degeneracy of nucleation and thus drive the seamless stitching of mono-oriented flakes. Here we show that a more dominant factor should be considered: in particular, the interaction of 2D TMD grains with the exposed oxygen-aluminium atomic plane establishes an energy-minimized 2D TMD-sapphire configuration. Reconstructing the surfaces of c-plane sapphire substrates to only a single type of atomic plane (plane symmetry) already guarantees the single-crystal epitaxy of monolayer TMDs without the aid of step edges. Electrical results evidence the structural uniformity of the monolayers. Our findings elucidate a long-standing question that curbs the wafer-scale batch epitaxy of 2D TMD single crystals-an important step towards using 2D materials for future electronics. Constructing nanostructures with high structural stability and ultrafast electrochemical reaction kinetics as anodes for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) is a big challenge. Herein, the robust 2D VS 2 / Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene nanostructures with the strong Ti─S covalent bond synthesized by a one-pot self-assembly approach are developed. The strong interfacial interaction renders the material of good structural durability and enhanced reaction kinetics. Meanwhile, the enlarged and few-layered MXene nanosheets can be easily obtained according to this interaction, providing a conductive network for sufficient electrolyte penetration and rapid charge transfer. As predicted, the VS 2 /MXene nanostructures exhibit an extremely low sodium diffusion barrier confirmed by DFT calculations and small charge transfer impedance evidenced by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis. Therefore, the SIBs based on the VS 2 /MXene electrode present first-class electrochemical performance with the ultrahigh average initial columbic efficiency of 95.08% and excellent sodium-ion storage capacity of 424.6 mAh g -1 even at 10 A g -1 . It also shows an outstanding sodium-ion storage capacity of 514.2 mAh g -1 at 1 A g -1 with a capacity retention of nearly 100% within 500 times high-rate cycling. E-waste dismantlers' occupational exposure to plasticizers, particularly non-phthalate (NPAE) plasticizers, is poorly understood. This study monitored 11 phthalates (PAEs) and 16 NPAEs in dust and hand wipe samples from Central China e-waste workplace and ordinary homes. Concentrations of plasticizers in dust from e-waste dismantling workshops (median: 217 μg/g) were significantly lower than that from ordinary homes (462 μg/g; p < 0.01), however, the trend was similar but not significant in hand wipes from these two scenarios (50.2 vs. 72.3 μg/m 2 ; p = 0.139). PAEs were still the dominant plasticizers, which is, on average, 5.46 and 3.58-fold higher than NPAEs. In all samples, di-(2ethylhexyl) phthalate (65.4%) and tri-octyl trimellitate (44.9%) were the most common PAE and NPAE plasticizers. Increasing dust concentrations of di-iso-nonyl ester 1,2-cyclohexane dicarboxylic acid, citrates and sebacates were significantly associated with their levels in worker's hand wipe, by contrast, this trend was not found in general population. Dust ingestion was the main channel, followed by hand-to-mouth contact, all participants' daily plasticizer intakes (median: 154 ng/kg bw/day) are within safety limits. Lipoproteins are complex particles comprised of a neutral lipid core wrapped with a phospholipid monolayer membrane and apolipoproteins on the membrane, which is closely associated with metabolic diseases. To facilitate the elucidation of its formation and dynamics, as well as its applications, we developed an in vitro system in which adiposomes, consisting of a hydrophobic core encircled by a monolayer-phospholipid membrane, were engineered into artificial lipoproteins (ALPs) by recruiting one or more kinds of apolipoproteins, for example, apolipoprotein (Apo) A-I, ApoE, ApoA-IV, and ApoB. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrated the stability and biological activity of ALPs derived from adiposomes, which resembles native lipoproteins. Of note, adiposomes bearing ApoE were internalized via clathrin-mediated endocytosis following LDLR binding and were delivered to lysosomes. On the other hand, adiposomes bearing ApoA-IV mimicked the existing form of endogenous ApoA-IV and exhibited significant improvement in glucose tolerance in mice. In addition, the construction process was simple, precise, reproducible, as well as easy to adjust for mass production. Single materials that exhibit efficient and stable white-light emission are highly desirable for lighting applications. This paper reports a novel zero-dimensional perovskite, Rb 4 CdCl 6 :Sn 2+ , Mn 2+ , which demonstrates exceptional white-light properties including adjustable correlated color temperature, high color rendering index of up to 85, and near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield of 99%. Using a co-doping strategy involving Sn 2+ and Mn 2+ , cyan-orange dual-band emission with complementary spectral ranges is activated by the self-trapped excitons and d-d transitions of the Sn 2+ and Mn 2+ centers in the Rb 4 CdCl 6 host, respectively. Intriguingly, although Mn 2+ ions doped in Rb 4 CdCl 6 are difficult to excite, efficient Mn 2+ emission can be realized through an ultra-high-efficient energy transfer between Sn 2+ and Mn 2+ via the formation of adjacent exchange-coupled Sn-Mn pairs. Benefiting from this efficient Dexter energy transfer process, the dual emission shares the same optimal excitation wavelengths of the Sn 2+ centers and suppresses the non-radiative vibration relaxation significantly. Moreover, the relative intensities of the dual-emission components can be modulated flexibly by adjusting the fraction of the Sn 2+ ions to the Sn-Mn pairs. Plastic recycling and reprocessing activities may release organophosphate ester (OPE) flame retardants and plasticizers into the surrounding environment. However, the relevant contamination profiles and impacts remain not well studied. This study investigated the occurrence of 28 OPEs and their metabolites (mOPEs) in rainfall runoffs and agricultural soils around one of the largest plastic recycling industrial parks in North China and identified novel organophosphorus compounds (NOPs) using high-resolution mass spectrometry-based nontarget analysis. Twenty and twenty-seven OPEs were detected in runoff water and soil samples, with total concentrations of 86.0-2491 ng/L and 2.53-199 ng/g dw, respectively. Thirteen NOPs were identified, of which eight were reported in the environment for the first time, including a chlorine-containing OPE, an organophosphorus heterocycle, a phosphite, three novel OPE metabolites, and two oligomers. Triphenylphosphine oxide and diphenylphosphinic acid occurred ubiquitously in runoffs and soils, with concentrations up to 390 ng/L and 40.2 ng/g dw, respectively. The downwind areas of the industrial park showed elevated levels of OPEs and NOPs. The contribution of hydroxylated mOPEs was higher in soils than in runoffs. These findings suggest that plastic recycling and reprocessing activities are significant sources of OPEs and NOPs and that biotransformation may further increase the ecological and human exposure risk.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is often accompanied by a common extra-articular manifestation known as RA-related usual interstitial pneumonia (RA-UIP), which is associated with a poor prognosis. However, the mechanism remains unclear. To identify potential mechanisms, we conducted bioinformatics analysis based on high-throughput sequencing of the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database., Results: Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) analysis identified 2 RA-positive related modules and 4 idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)-positive related modules. A total of 553 overlapped differentially expressed genes (DEG) were obtained, of which 144 in the above modules were further analyzed. The biological process of "oxidative phosphorylation" was found to be the most relevant with both RA and IPF. Additionally, 498 up-regulated genes in lung tissues of RA-UIP were screened out and enriched by 7 clusters, of which 3 were closely related to immune regulation. The analysis of immune infiltration showed a characteristic distribution of peripheral immune cells in RA-UIP, compared with IPF-UIP in lung tissues., Conclusions: These results describe the complex molecular and functional landscape of RA-UIP, which will help illustrate the molecular pathological mechanism of RA-UIP and identify new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for RA-UIP in the future., (© 2023. Electronic waste (e-waste) dismantling facilities are a well-known source of emerging contaminants including organophosphate esters (OPEs). However, little information is available regarding the release characteristics and co-contaminations of tri- and di-esters. This study, therefore, investigated a broad range of tri- and di-OPEs in dust and hand wipe samples collected from an e-waste dismantling plant and homes as comparison. The median ∑tri-OPE and ∑di-OPE levels in dust and hand wipe samples were approximately 7- and 2-fold higher than those in the comparison group, respectively (p < 0.01). Triphenyl phosphate (median: 11,700 ng/g and 4640 ng/m 2 ) and bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate (median: 5130 ng/g and 940 ng/m 2 ) were the dominant components of tri- and di-OPEs, respectively. The combination of Spearman rank correlations and the determinations of molar concentration ratios of di-OPEs to tri- OPEs revealed that apart from the degradation of tri-OPEs, di-OPEs could originate from direct commercial application, or as impurities in tri-OPE formulas. Significant positive correlations (p < 0.05) were found for most tri- and di-OPE levels between the dust and hand wipes from dismantling workers, whereas this was not observed in those from the ordinary microenvironment. The current understanding of the interplay between blood selenium, cadmium and lead levels, and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is limited. Our objective was to investigate whether elevated blood selenium levels can mitigate the nephrotoxic effects of lead and cadmium. The exposure variables examined in this study include blood selenium, cadmium, and lead levels measured by ICP-MS. The outcome of interest was CKD, defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) below 60 mL/min/1.73 m 2 . In total, 10630 participants (mean (SD) age:48.9 ± 18.4; 48.3% male) were included in this analysis. The median (IQR) of blood selenium, cadmium, and lead levels was 191 (177-207) μg/L, 0.300 (0.180-0.540) μg/L, and 0.940 (0.570-1.510) μg/dL, respectively. We observed a significant positive association between cadmium and lead levels and CKD (OR; 1.86; 95%CI: 1.31- 2.64; OR:2.23; 95%CI:1.54-3.24). However, selenium had a negative association with CKD (OR:0.096; 95%CI:0.020-0.457). Based on a reference group with a selenium concentration of ≤ 191 μg/L and cadmium level of > 0.300 μg/L, a significant protective factor in the CKD was seen in subjects with high plasma selenium and lower cadmium concentrations (OR:0.685; 95%CI:0.515-0.912). Then selenium concentration of ≤ 191 μg/L and lead level of > 0.940 μg/dL were set as a reference group, and the OR for CKD decreased among the other group (OR:0.564; 95%CI;0.417- 0.762). The subgroup analysis indicated that there were no effect modifiers. Aging is one of the key mechanisms of vascular dysfunction and contributes to the initiation and progression of ischemic stroke (IS). Our previous study demonstrated that ACE2 priming enhanced the protective effects of exosomes derived from endothelial progenitor cells (EPC-EXs) on hypoxia-induced injury in aging endothelial cells (ECs). Here, we aimed to investigate whether ACE2-enriched EPC-EXs (ACE2-EPC-EXs) could attenuate brain ischemic injury by inhibiting cerebral EC damage through their carried miR-17-5p and the underlying molecular mechanisms. The enriched miRs in ACE2-EPC-EXs were screened using the miR sequencing method. EPC-EXs, ACE2-EPC-EXs, and ACE2-EPC-EXs with miR-17-5p deficiency (ACE2-EPC-EXs antagomiR-17-5p ) were administered to transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO)-operated aged mice or coincubated with hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-treated aging ECs. The results showed that (1) the level of brain EPC-EXs and their carried ACE2 were significantly decreased in aged mice compared to in young mice, and (2) after tMCAO, aged mice displayed increases in brain cell senescence, infarct volume, and neurological deficit score (NDS) and a decrease in cerebral blood flow (CBF). (3) Compared with EPC-EXs, ACE2-EPC-EXs were enriched with miR-17-5p and more effective in increasing ACE2 and miR-17-5p expression in cerebral microvessels, accompanied by obvious increases in cerebral microvascular density (cMVD) and cerebral blood flow (CBF) and decreases in brain cell senescence, infarct volume, neurological deficit score (NDS), cerebral EC ROS production, and apoptosis in tMCAO-operated aged mice. Moreover, silencing of miR-17-5p partially abolished the beneficial effects of ACE2-EPC-EXs. (4) In H/R-treated aging ECs, ACE2-EPC-EXs were more effective than EPC-EXs in decreasing cell senescence, ROS production, and apoptosis and increasing cell viability and tube formation. In a mechanistic study, ACE2-EPC-EXs more effectively inhibited PTEN protein expression and increased the phosphorylation of PI3K and Akt, which were partially abolished by miR-17-5p knockdown. Altogether, our data suggest that ACE-EPC-EXs have better protective effects on ameliorating aged IS mouse brain neurovascular injury by inhibiting cell senescence, EC oxidative stress, apoptosis, and dysfunction by activating the miR-17-5p/PTEN/PI3K/Akt signaling pathway., (© 2023. The present study was performed to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with herbal additives on meat quality, slaughter performance and the cecal microbial community in Hungarian white geese. A total of 60 newborn geese were assigned equally into the control group (CON) and the herbal complex supplemented group (HS). The dietary supplementations consisted of Compound Herbal Additive A (CHAA) including Pulsatilla, Gentian and Rhizoma coptidis , and Compound Herbal Additive B (CHAB) containing Codonopsis pilosula, Atractylodes, Poria cocos and Licorice . The geese in the HS group received a basal diet supplemented with 0.2% CHAA from day 0 to day 42 at the postnatal stage. Then from day 43 to day 70, the geese in HS group were provide a basal diet with 0.15% CHAB. The geese in the CON group were only provided with the basal diet. The results showed that the slaughter rate (SR), half chamber rates (HCR), eviscerated rate (ER) and breast muscle rate (BMR) in the HS group tended to increase slightly compared with the CON group (ns). In addition, the shear force, filtration rate and pH value of breast muscle and thigh muscle in the HS group were slightly enhanced compared to the CON group (ns). Significant increased levels in carbohydrate content, fat content and energy ( P  < 0.01) and significant decreased levels in cholesterol content ( P  < 0.01) were observed in the muscle of the HS group. The total amino acid (Glu, Lys, Thr and Asp) content in the muscle increased in HS group than in the CON group ( P  < 0.01). Dietary herb supplementations significantly increased the levels of IgG in serum ( P  < 0.05) on day 43 and higher levels of IgM, IgA and IgG ( P  < 0.01) were also observed in the HS group on day 70. Furthermore, 16S rRNA sequencing results indicated that herbal additives increased the growth of beneficial bacteria and inhibited the proliferation of harmful bacteria in the geese caecum. Altogether, these results offer crucial insights into the potential benefits of incorporating CHAA and CHAB into the diets of Hungarian white goose. Research on the environmental occurrence of long-chain chlorinated paraffins (LCCPs) in ambient fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) is still scarce. In the present study, short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs), medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) and LCCPs were simultaneously quantified and profiled in PM 2.5 samples collected from 96 primary or secondary schools in the Pearl River Delta of South China. SCCPs, MCCPs and LCCPs were detected in higher than 90% samples with concentrations in the range of 0.832-109, 1.02-110, and 0.173-17.4 ng/m 3 , respectively. The dominant congener groups of SCCPs, MCCPs and LCCPs were C 13 Cl 6-8 , C 14 Cl 7-8 , and C 18 Cl 7-9 , respectively. The concentrations of SCCPs and MCCPs were higher in summer than in winter, while an opposite seasonal trend was observed for LCCPs. Principal components analysis showed there were seasonal variations in the congener group patterns with C 13 Cl 6-7 and C 14 Cl 7 more abundant in summer than in winter . Concentrations of CPs also exhibited slight spatial variations. Exposure risk assessment based on different age groups suggested exposure to PM 2.5 -associated CPs would not pose significant health risk. Background: Although an increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) has been reported in individuals with low vitamin D status, this remains controversial. Growing evidence suggests that sleep behaviors may influence vitamin D endocrine functions., Objectives: We explored the association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [[25(OH)D] concentrations and CHD and whether sleep behaviors modify this relationship., Methods: A cross-sectional analysis of 7511 adults aged ≥20 y in 2005-2008 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) that included serum 25(OH)D concentrations and provided information on sleep behaviors and history of CHD was performed. Logistic regression models were used to assess the association between serum 25(OH)D concentrations and CHD, whereas stratified analyses and multiplicative interaction tests were used to evaluate the modification effect of overall sleep patterns and each sleep factor on this relationship. The overall sleep patterns integrated 4 sleep behaviors (sleep duration, snoring, insomnia, and daytime sleepiness) in the form of healthy sleep score., Results: Serum 25(OH)D concentrations were inversely associated with risk of CHD (P < 0.01). Hypovitaminosis D [serum 25(OH)D <50nmol/L] was associated with a 71% increased risk of CHD (OR: 1.71; 95% CI: 1.28, 2.28; P < 0.01) compared with that in participants with sufficient vitamin D [serum 25(OH)D ≥75nmol/L], and the association was more evident and stable among participants with poor sleep patterns (P-interaction < 0.01). Among the individual sleep behaviors, sleep duration had the strongest interaction with 25(OH)D (P-interaction < 0.05). The association between serum 25(OH)D concentrations and risk of CHD was more pronounced in participants with sleep duration <7 h/d or >8 h/d compared with those with sleep duration 7-8 h/d., Conclusions: These findings suggest that the influence of lifestyle-related behavioral risk factors, such as sleep behaviors (especially sleep duration), need to be considered when evaluating the association between serum 25(OH)D concentrations and CHD as well as the clinical benefits of vitamin D supplementation., (Copyright © 2023 American Society for Nutrition. Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries have shown exceptional theoretical energy densities, making them a promising candidate for next-generation energy storage systems. However, their practical application is limited by several challenging issues, such as uncontrollable Li dendrite growth, sluggish electrochemical kinetics, and the shuttling effect of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs). To overcome these issues, we designed and synthesized hierarchical matrixes on carbon cloth (CC) by using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). ZnO nanosheet arrays were used as anode hosts (CC-ZnO) to enable stable Li plating and stripping. The symmetric cell with CC-ZnO@Li was demonstrated to have enhanced cycling stability, with a voltage hysteresis of ∼25 mV for over 800 h at 1 mA cm -2 and 1 mAh cm -2 . To address the cathode challenges, we developed a multifunctional CC-NC-Co cathode host with physical confinement, chemical anchoring, and excellent electrocatalysis. The full cells with CC-ZnO@Li anodes and CC-NC-Co@S cathodes exhibited excellent electrochemical performance, with long cycling life (0.02% and 0.03% capacity decay per cycle when cycling 900 times at 0.5 C and 600 times at 1 C, respectively) and outstanding rate performance (793 mAh g -1 at 4 C). Additionally, the pouch cell based on the flexible CC-ZnO@Li anode and CC-NC-Co@S cathode showed good stability in different bending states. Overall, our study presents an effective strategy for preparing flexible Li and S hosts with hierarchical structures derived from MOF, which can pave the way for high-performance Li-S batteries.

Objective: The abbreviated TCB index (TCBI) is a novel indicator of nutritional status, calculated by multiplying the serum values of triglycerides (TG), total serum cholesterol (TC), and body weight. The research on the relationship between this index and stroke is limited. We aimed to investigate the association between TCBI and stroke in Chinese hypertensive patients., Methods and Results: A total of 13,358 adults with hypertension from the China H-type Hypertension Registry Study were enrolled. The TCBI was calculated as TG (mg/dL) * TC (mg/dL) * body weight (kg)/1,000. The primary outcome was an incidence of stroke. Multivariable adjusted models revealed an inverse association between TCBI and the prevalence of stroke. In the fully adjusted model, the results showed that the prevalence of stroke decreased by 13% (OR, 0.87; 95% CI, 0.78-0.98, p = 0.018) per SD increment of LgTCBI. When TCBI was assessed as a categorical variable, compared with those in group Q4 (TCBI ≥ 2,399), the participants in group Q3 (TCBI ≥ 1,476 and <2,399), group Q2 (TCBI ≥ 920 and <1,476), and group Q1 (TCBI < 920) had increases in stroke prevalence of 42% (OR, 1.42; 95% CI, 1.13-1.80; p -value = 0.003), 38% (OR, 1.38; 95% CI, 1.07-1.80; p -value = 0.014), and 68% (OR, 1.68; 95% CI, 1.24-2.27; p -value = 0.001), respectively. Metal sulfide anodes have aroused much attention in potassium ion batteries (PIBs) owing to their high theoretical capacities, but the sluggish kinetics and inferior cycling performance caused by severe volumetric change and particle pulverization greatly hinder their further development. Herein, robust hollow structure design together with phase structure engineering endow (Bi-Sb) 2 S 3 @N-C anode with superior (de)potassiation kinetics and excellent electrochemical performances in PIBs. Specifically, in situ X-ray diffraction combined with density functional theory calculations and ex situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses indicated a fresh reaction mechanism of (Bi-Sb) 2 S 3 anode with a distinctive multistep (de)potassiation route along (003) plane of (Bi,Sb) alloy thanks to the Bi-Sb phase regulation in (Bi-Sb) 2 S 3 anode, ensuring it with superior reaction kinetics. Moreover, in situ TEM characterization revealed the advantages of the hollow nanostructure with carbon shell, facilitating fast ion transport kinetics and high tolerance of volume change as well as enabling the structural integrity of electrode material during (de)potassiation. As a result, the (Bi-Sb) 2 S 3 hollow nanocube with N-doped carbon shell ((Bi-Sb) 2 S 3 @N-C) delivers a high initial Coulombic efficiency of 66.3%, a great rate performance of 289 mAh g -1 at 2.0 A g -1 , and an ultralong cycling life (89% retention after 220 cycles at 0.1 A g -1 and 85% retention after 1600 cycles at 2.0 A g -1 ) in PIBs. Furthermore, the full cell of (Bi-Sb) 2 S 3 @N-C//PTCDA affords a high reversible capacity of 281 mA h g -1 at 1.0 A g -1 after 300 cycles. This work combines structural design and in situ techniques, proving a successful nanostructure engineering strategy to rationalize alloy-type electrode materials for PIBs.

Background and Aims: A relationship exists between dietary copper intake and hypertriglyceridemia in the United States (US). However, children and adolescents have there is limited research data for children and adolescents, who have not been thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to carefully evaluate this relationship., Methods and Results: This cross-sectional study included 3982 children and adolescents who participated in the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999-2006. The outcome variable was hypertriglyceridemia, defined as a triglyceride (TG) concentration >150 mg/dL. Multivariate and binary logistic regression models were applied in this study. The median (Q1-Q3) copper intake and TG levels were 0.98 (0.71-1.32) mg/d and 72.00 (53.00-100.00) mg/dL, respectively. The smoothing curve showed an inverted L-shaped relationship between copper intake and the prevalence of hypertriglyceridemia in American children and adolescents. A binary logistic regression model was developed to evaluate the relationship between copper intake and the prevalence of hypertriglyceridemia, and the inflection point was 0.76 mg/d. The odds of developing hypertriglyceridemia significantly increased with increasing levels of copper intake (odds ratio (OR), 2.00; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.39-2.86) in participants with copper intake >0.76 mg/d (P for log likelihood ratio test = 0.032). The association between high copper intake and increased hypertriglyceridemia risk was significantly stronger in participants with a high body mass index (BMI; ≥23 kg/m 2 ) (OR: 2.09; 95% CI: 1.42-3.07) than in those with a low BMI (tertile 1-2) (p for interaction = 0.048).
