Background: Recently pilot published city-level air quality health index (AQHI) provides a useful tool for communicating short-term health risks of ambient air pollution, but fails to account for intracity spatial heterogeneity in exposure and associated population health impacts. This study aims to develop the intracity spatiotemporal AQHI (ST-AQHI) via refined air pollution-related health risk assessments., Methods: A three-stage analysis was conducted through integrating province-wide death surveillance data and high-resolution gridded estimates of air pollution and climate factors spanning 2016-2019 in Jiangsu Province, eastern China. First, an individual-level case-crossover design was employed to quantify the short-term risk of nonaccidental mortality associated with residential exposure to individual pollutant (i.e., PM 2.5 , NO 2 , O 3 , and SO 2 ). Second, we accumulated and scaled the excess risks arising from multiple pollutants to formulate daily gridded ST-AQHI estimates at 0.1° × 0.1°, dividing exposure-related risks into low (0-3), moderate (4-6), high (7-9), and extreme high (10+) levels. Finally, the effectiveness of ST-AQHI as composite risk communication was validated through checking the dose-response associations of individual ST-AQHI exposure with deaths from nonaccidental and major cardiopulmonary causes via repeating case-crossover analyses., Results: We analyzed a total of 1,905,209 nonaccidental death cases, comprising 785,567 from circulatory diseases and 247,336 from respiratory diseases. In the first-stage analysis, for each 10-μg/m 3 rise in PM 2.5 , NO 2 , O 3 , and SO 2 exposure at lag-01 day, population risk of nonaccidental death was increased by 0.8% (95% confidence interval: 0.7%, 0.9%), 1.9% (1.7%, 2.0%), 0.4% (0.3%, 0.5%), and 4.1% (3.7%, 4.5%), respectively. Spatiotemporal distribution of ST-AQHI exhibited a consistent declining trend throughout the study period (2016-2019), with annual average ST-AQHI decreasing from 5.2 ± 1.3 to 4.0 ± 1.0 and high-risk days dropping from 15.8% (58 days) to 1.6% (6 days). Exposure associated health risks showed great intracity- and between-city heterogeneities. In the validation analysis, ST-AQHI demonstrated approximately linear, threshold-free associations with multiple death events from nonaccidental and major cardiopulmonary causes, suggesting excellent performance in predicting exposure-related health risks. Specifically, each 1-unit rise in ST-AQHI was significantly associated with an excess risk of 2.0% (1.8%, 2.1%) for nonaccidental mortality, 2.3% (2.1%, 2.6%) for overall circulatory mortality, and 2.7% (2.3%, 3.1%) for overall respiratory mortality, as well as 1.7%-3.0% for major cardiopulmonary sub-causes., Conclusions: ST-AQHI developed in this study performed well in predicting intracity spatiotemporal heterogeneity of death risks related to multiple air pollutants, and may hold significant practical importance in communicating air pollution-related health risks to the public at the community scales., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier B.V. Background: As research on the use of mobile technology to deliver mental health support grows, the research from China is still very limited. How to design an acceptable and usable mobile mental health service model suitable for China's social and cultural environment remains to be studied., Objective: To understand the acceptability and usability of a WeChat-based intervention among Chinese patients with depression, and to provide insights to promote future development of user-centered mobile mental health services design., Methods: The research team developed a multi-theoretical intervention that includes seven modules: recovery lessons, recovery journal, coaching sessions, mindfulness, personalized support, regular assessments and feedback collection. Forty-two patients diagnosed with depressive disorder were recruited, with a mixed sample of patients who were using an antidepressant medication ( n  = 29) and patients who were not using an antidepressant medication ( n  = 13). A single-arm mixed-methods study was conducted to understand engagement, satisfaction, usability and potential clinical effectiveness of the intervention., Results: There was a retention rate of 83.33% - 22 participants who used an antidepressant medication and 13 participants who did not use an antidepressant medication completed the final assessments. The median (upper quartile-lower quartile) of the completed 60 recovery journals and 7 coaching sessions was 56 (59-46) and 6 (7-4) times, respectively. Participants' satisfaction regarding their recovery progress, and on perceived helpfulness on different modules were high. The overall score of the user version of the Mobile Application Rating Scale was 4.23 (SD 0.44, range 1-5), indicating high acceptability and usability. Qualitative feedback identified three key themes: an efficient access to professional help, a personalized source of social support, and a facilitator of cognitive and behavioral change., Conclusions: This study demonstrated that a WeChat-based intervention for depression was acceptable, and has the potential to promote personal recovery. Background: The study of clinical biological indicators in bipolar disorder (BD) is important. In recent years, basic experiments have associated the pathophysiological mechanism of BD is related to mitochondrial dysfunction, but few clinical studies have confirmed this finding., Object: The present study aimed to evaluate whether plasma circulating cell-free mitochondrial DNA (ccf-mtDNA) levels, which can represent the degree of mitochondrial damage in vivo, are altered in patients with BD in early onset and during treatment compared with controls., Method: A total of 75 first-diagnosed drug-naive patients with BD and 60 HCs were recruited and followed up for 1 month. The clinical symptoms were assessed using HAMD, HAMA, and YMRS, and ccf-mtDNA levels were measured by qPCR before and after drug treatment in BD., Result: (1) The plasma ccf-mtDNA levels in first-diagnosed drug-naive patients with BD increased compared with those in HCs (p = 0.001). (2) Drug treatment for 1 month can decrease the expression of ccf-mtDNA in BD (p < 0.001). (3) No significant correlation was observed between the changes in ccf-mtDNA levels and the improvement of clinical symptoms in BD after drug treatment., Conclusion: The plasma ccf-mtDNA level was increased in BD, and decreased after pharmacological treatment. The dynamics of genomic loci pairs and their interactions are essential for transcriptional regulation and genome organization. However, a robust method for tracking pairwise genomic loci in living cells is lacking. Here we developed a multicolor DNA labeling system, mParSpot (multicolor ParSpot), to track pairs of genomic loci and their interactions in living cells. The mParSpot system is derived from the ParB/ParS in the parABS system and Noc/NBS in its paralogous nucleoid occlusion system. The insertion of 16 base-pair palindromic ParSs or NBSs into the genomic locus allows the cognate binding protein ParB or Noc to spread kilobases of DNA around ParSs or NBSs for loci-specific visualization. We tracked two loci with a genomic distance of 53 kilobases and measured their spatial distance over time. Using the mParSpot system, we labeled the promoter and terminator of the MSI2 gene span 423 kb and measured their spatial distance. We also tracked the promoter and terminator dynamics of the MUC4 gene in living cells. In sum, the mParSpot is a robust and sensitive DNA labeling system for tracking genomic interactions in space and time under physiological or pathological contexts., (© The Author(s) 2024. Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a virtual reality (VR) program designed and developed based on the hallucinogenic harm reduction and integration (PHRI) clinical model could be more effective in guiding positive thinking training, improving positive thinking awareness and ability, and, to some extent, facilitating personal efficacy and emotional state compared to a traditional VR program that places users in a virtual natural ecological environment to guide positive thinking training. We also sought to understand the factors that may influence the effectiveness of VR interventions and user experience., Method: Seventy-six randomly recruited participants were divided into a control group and an experimental group of 38 participants, each according to a random number table, and were trained in VR meditation for eight weeks. The experimental group used a PHRI-based mindfulness program, while the control group used a traditional mindfulness meditation program. We used The Mindful Attention Awareness Scale and the PAD emotional three-dimensional scale to assess the level of state mindfulness and changes in the emotional state before and at the end of the experiment. The Immersive Tendencies Questionnaire measured the user's sense of presence and immersion in the virtual environment. The Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaires and the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) were used at the baseline assessment stage before and at the 4-week follow-up after the experiment to assess the change in trait mindfulness levels due to the mindfulness training. The Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaires and the DASS-21 were used to assess changes in mindfulness and mental health trait levels., Results: At the end of the experiment, the MMSQ score was significantly lower in the control group than in the experimental group, while the ITQ score was significantly higher than in the experimental group, and both scores were statistically significant ( p  < 0.05). In the follow-up assessment four weeks after the end of the experiment, the FFMQ-15 score and the DASS-21 were significantly and statistically higher in the experimental group than in the control group ( p  < 0.05). Since the scores of the PAD scale did not obey a normal distribution, we used the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to assess the results, which proved that the experimental group had higher levels of emotional activation and arousal., Conclusion: The VR positive thinking program developed based on PHRI can significantly increase the positive thinking state and emotional arousal and activation of the general population participants but does not directly lead to the growth of positive emotions. Moreover, this detached psychedelic scene brings users a weaker sense of presence and presence than traditional natural space scenes. Furthermore, it does not bring any intense simulator motion sickness symptoms. Background: There has been growing interest in using the traditional Chinese herb Buyang Huanwu Decoction (BHD) as a potential treatment for spinal cord injury (SCI), owing to its long-used treatment for SCI in China. However, the efficacy and safety of BHD treatment for SCI remain widely skeptical. This meta-analysis aims to assess the safety and efficacy of BHD in managing SCI., Method: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across several databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, and Sinomed, up to January 1, 2024. Randomized controlled clinical trials evaluating the safety or efficacy of BHD in SCI treatment were included. The analysis focused on 8 critical endpoints: Patient-perceived total clinical effective rate, American Spinal Cord Injury Association (ASIA) sensory score, ASIA motor score, somatosensory evoked potential, motor evoked potential, visual analog scale pain score, Japanese Orthopaedic Association score, and adverse events., Results: Thirteen studies comprising 815 participants met the inclusion criteria. No significant heterogeneity or publication bias was observed across the trials. The findings revealed significant improvements in the patient-perceived total clinical effective rate (OR = 3.77; 95% confidence interval [CI] = [2.43, 5.86]; P < .001), ASIA sensory score (mean difference [MD] = 8.22; 95% CI = [5.87, 10.56]; P < .001), ASIA motor score (MD = 7.16; 95% CI = [5.15, 9.18]; P < .001), somatosensory evoked potential (MD = 0.25; 95% CI = [0.03, 0.48]; P = .02), motor evoked potential (MD = 0.30; 95% CI = [0.14, 0.46]; P = .0002), and Japanese Orthopaedic Association score (MD = 1.99; 95% CI = [0.39, 3.58]; P = .01) in the BHD combination group compared to the control group. Additionally, there was a significant reduction in visual analog scale pain scores (MD = -0.81; 95% CI = [-1.52, -0.11]; P = .02) with BHD combination treatment, without a significant increase in adverse effects (OR = 0.68; 95% CI = [0.33, 1.41]; P = .3)., Conclusion: The current evidence suggests that BHD is effective and safe in treating SCI, warranting consideration as a complementary and alternative therapy. Objective: The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically increased use of remote-delivered mental health services. This study identifies advantages and limitations of remote-delivered services on college campuses to inform mental health delivery post-pandemic. Methods: Clinicians ( n  = 30) were asked to evaluate COVID-19's impact on their work, environment, and wellness in an online survey. Qualitative data was coded using a thematic analysis approach, while quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Many clinicians reported benefits of remote services, including increased accessibility, greater convenience, no change in therapeutic alliance, and decreased stress for clinicians. Clinicians also experienced challenges such as social isolation, technological difficulties, and personal/family concerns. Clinicians envisioned a hybrid service combining online and in-person activities post-pandemic. Conclusions: Overall, remote-delivered mental health services on college campuses have potential in increasing treatment quality while highlighting a necessity for further research in hybrid mental health delivery., Supplemental data for this article can be accessed online at https://doi.org/10.1080/07448481.2022.2038178 .

To study the classification efficiency of using texture feature machine learning method in distinguishing solid lung adenocarcinoma (SADC) and tuberculous granulomatous nodules (TGN) that appear as solid nodules (SN) in non-enhanced CT images. 200 patients with SADC and TGN who underwent thoracic non-enhanced CT examination from January 2012 to October 2019 were included in the study, 490 texture eigenvalues of 6 categories were extracted from the lesions in the non-enhanced CT images of these patients for machine learning, the classification prediction model is established by using relatively the best classifier selected according to the fitting degree of learning curve in the process of machine learning, and the effectiveness of the model was tested and verified. The logistic regression model of clinical data (including demographic data and CT parameters and CT signs of solitary nodules) was used for comparison. The prediction model of clinical data was established by logistic regression, and the classifier was established by machine learning of radiologic texture features. The area under the curve was 0.82 and 0.65 for the prediction model based on clinical CT and only CT parameters and CT signs, and 0.870 based on Radiomics characteristics. The machine learning prediction model developed by us can improve the differentiation efficiency of SADC and TGN with SN, and provide appropriate support for treatment decisions., (© 2023. Background: The pathophysiological mechanism of cognitive impairments of bipolar disorder (BD) has not yet been completely revealed. It is well known that Vitamin D and physical activity (PA) are associated with BD. However, specific links between Vitamin D and cognitive deficits in BD are still unclear., Method: The serum levels of vitamin D were measured. The cognitive performances of 102 first-diagnosed and drug-naïve BD patients were evaluated for analysis. The repeatable battery for the assessment of neuropsychological status (RBANS) and the Stroop Color-Word test was used in this study. PA was collected by international physical activity questionnaire., Result: Patients with BD had high levels of serum vitamin D. Furthermore, immediate and delayed memory was negatively associated with vitamin D levels in patients' group. The serum levels of vitamin D in patients with low PA were positively associated with memory. However, increased PA attenuated the protective effect of vitamin D on executive cognition., Conclusion: It is concluded that the increased levels of vitamin D were observed in the serum of patients with BD. Objectives: Cognitive impairment and abnormal glycolipid metabolism are common clinical features of bipolar disorder (BD). The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between conventional glycolipid metabolism indicators and cognitive impairment in patients with BD., Methods: A total of 132 drug-naïve patients with BD and 129 healthy controls (HC) were recruited in the study. Five serum glycolipid metabolism indicators were measured and cognitive function was assessed using the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS) and the Stroop Color-Word Test (Stroop test) for each participant., Results: The scores of immediate memory, attention, language and delayed memory in BD group were significantly lower than those in HC group (P < 0.05). The triglyceride (TG) level in BD group was higher than that in HC group (P = 0.011), and the total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) levels were lower than those in HC group (P = 0.026; P = 0.001). Regression analysis showed that TG level was significantly correlated with RBANS total score (β = 0.245, P = 0.008), attention (β = 0.289, P = 0.03) and delayed memory (β = 0.221, P = 0.023). Fasting blood glucose (FBG) level was significantly correlated with language subscale score (β = -0.187, P = 0.046) in BD., Limitations: Cross-sectional design and limited control variables., Conclusions: Elevated FBG and TG levels may be associated with cognitive dysfunction in BD patients. Background: The fast development of mobile technologies provides promising opportunities to fulfill the largely unmet needs of treatment and recovery for mood disorders in China. However, with limited research from China, the development of acceptable and usable web-based mental health services that are based on preference of patients from China still remains a challenge., Objective: The aims of this paper were to (1) understand the experience of patients with mood disorders on current accessibility of mental health support in China; and (2) to get insights on patients' preferences on web-based mental health services, so as to provide suggestions for the future development of web-based mental health services for mood disorders in China., Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 female participants diagnosed with depression and 7 with bipolar disorder (5 female and 2 male) via the audio chat function of WeChat. The interviews were 60-90 min long and were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Thematic analysis was conducted using QSR NVivo 12 to identify and establish themes and sub-themes., Results: Two major sections of results with a total of 5 themes were identified. The first section was participants' treatment and recovery experience, which included three main themes: (1) professional help seeking experience; (2) establishment of self-help strategies; and (3) complex experiences from various source of social support. The second section was focused on preferences for web-based services, which were divided into two themes: (1) preferred support and features, with three sub-themes: as channels to access professionals, as databases for self-help resources, and as sources of social support; and (2) preferred modality., Conclusions: The access to mental health support for personal recovery of mood disorders in China was perceived by participants as not sufficient. Web-based mental health services that include professional, empathetic social support from real humans, and recovery-oriented, personalized self-help resources are promising to bridge the gap. The advantages of social media like WeChat were emphasized for patients in China. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the role of Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in clinical and cognitive outcomes in medication-naïve patients with Bipolar type II disorder (BD II) and Major depressive disorder (MDD)., Methods: 45 outpatients with BD II, 40 outpatients with MDD and 40 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited, and sociodemographic and clinical data were collected. Their BDNF serum levels were measured and analyzed with the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS)., Results: BDNF levels were significantly lower in BD II patients than in MDD patients and HCs (p = 0.001). BD II and MDD patients had similar cognitive performance deficits shown on Attention (p = 0.001), Delayed memory (p = 0.001), and RBANS total score (p = 0.001). BDNF levels were positively associated with Visuospatial / constructional and Stroop color-word in BD II group, and with language in MDD group. The area under the curve (AUC) of the ROC analysis in BD II vs. MDD was 0.664, therefore, BDNF levels could not distinguish BD II from MDD., Conclusion: Our study showed the decreased serum BDNF in MDD and BD II patients, suggesting BDNF may be involved in the pathophysiology of MDD and BD II. BDNF and cognitive deficits are both of low efficiency in distinguishing BD II from MDD. Objective: To investigate the prevalence of and risk factors associated with mental health symptoms in psychiatric outpatients and their family members in China during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This cross-sectional, survey-based, region-stratified study collected demographic data and mental health measurements for depression, anxiety and acute stress from 269 psychiatric patients and 231 family members in the Second Xiangya Hospital in China from April 27, 2020 to May 8, 2020. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to identify risk factors associated with mental health outcomes. Result: The results of this survey revealed that symptoms of depression, anxiety, and acute stress were highly prevalent symptoms in the psychiatric patient group. Respondents who were female, unmarried or highly educated were significantly more likely to have the above symptoms. In the family member group, more than half of them felt that the burden of nursing had increased during the epidemic. Subjects with a high degree of burden of care were significantly more likely to exhibit the above mental health symptoms, while females were significantly more likely to have acute stress. Conclusions: The results of this survey revealed a high prevalence of mental health disorder symptoms among psychiatric patients and an increased burden of nursing among their family members after the COVID-19 outbreak in China. Understanding the risk factors in those particular groups of people help improve the public health service system for mental health problems during public health events. Objective: Studies on alterations in the regional neural activity in the brain of patients with bipolar disorder (BD) have provided conflicting results because of different medications used and study designs. A low bone mineral density (BMD) is also observed in patients with BD. This study aimed to further explore regional neural activities in unmedicated patients with BD and their association with BMD., Methods: In this study, 40 patients with BD and 42 healthy controls were scanned through resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Imaging data were analyzed with regional homogeneity (ReHo) and pattern classification. Pearson's correlation analyses were performed to explore the correlations between abnormal ReHo and BMD., Results: A significant increase in ReHo values in the left inferior frontal gyrus (IFG)/temporal pole, left cerebellum vermis I/vermis II/parahippocampal gyrus/brainstem, and right superior temporal gyrus (STG) and a decrease in ReHo in the occipital gyrus (OG; left middle OG/superior OG/bilateral cuneus) were found in the patients with BD (p < 0.05) compared with those in the healthy controls. No significant correlation was observed between the abnormal ReHo values in any of the brain regions of the patients with BMD.Support vector machine (SVM) analyses revealed that the ReHo values in the right STG for distinguishing patients from healthy controls showed an accuracy of 91.89%, a sensitivity of 75.68%, and a specificity of 83.78%. The ReHo values in the left cerebellum vermis I/vermis II/parahippocampal gyrus/brainstem indicated an accuracy of 78.38%, a sensitivity of 75.68%, and a specificity of 81.08%., Conclusion: This study further confirms the abnormal brain activities in extensive regions, and these brain regions are primarily located in the fronto-temporal-occipital circuit and the cerebellum vermis of patients with BD. Background: With the rapid development of information technology and mobile devices, an increasing number of mobile medical services and platforms have emerged. However, China's current mental health situation necessitates further discussion and research on how to provide more patient-centered services in the face of many challenges and opportunities., Objective: This study aims to explore the attitudes and preferences of mental health service stakeholders regarding mobile mental health services and discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by mobile technology developers in China., Methods: A web-based survey was conducted by following the Checklist for Reporting Results of Internet E-Surveys (CHERRIES) checklist. A total of 586 valid questionnaires were collected. Respondents included 184 patients or their family members, 225 mental health professionals, and 177 people from the general population. Data analysis was completed using SPSS 24.0., Results: Among the various problems perceived regarding the current mental health medical environment, difficulty in finding appropriate psychologists and limited visit times ranked highest. Social media (n=380/586, 64.9%) was the most preferred platform among all participants, whereas professionals showed a higher preference for smartphone apps (n=169/225, 75.1%). Professional instruction, psychological consultation, and mental health education (ranked top 3) were the most commonly identified needs. Mental health professionals generally emphasized more on treatment-related mobile mental health service needs, especially medication reminders (χ 2 2 =70.7; P<.001), symptom monitoring (χ 2 2 =24.0; P<.001), and access to mental health resources (χ 2 2 =38.6; P<.001). However, patients and their family members focused more on convenient web-based prescriptions (χ 2 2 =7.7; P=.02), with the general population interested in web-based psychological consultation (χ 2 2 =23.1; P<.001) and mental health knowledge (χ 2 2 =9.1; P=.01). Almost half of the participants regarded mobile mental health services as highly acceptable or supported their use, but less than 30% of participants thought mobile mental health services might be very helpful. Concerns about mobile mental health mainly focused on information security. Service receivers also suspected the quality and professionalism of content, and mental health professionals were worried about time and energy consumption as well as medical safety., Conclusions: In terms of service flow, mobile services could be used to expand service time and improve efficiency before and after diagnosis. More individualized mobile mental health service content in more acceptable forms should be developed to meet the various needs of different mental health stakeholders. Multidisciplinary training and communication could be incorporated to facilitate the integration and cooperation of more well-rounded service teams. A standard medical record system and data format would better promote the development of future intelligent medical care. Objectives: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is a global public health crisis, which elicits psychological problems in different population . This study is to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on mental health in the front-line staff., Methods: Patient Health Questionnare-9 (PHQ-9), Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), and Fatigue Self-assessment Scale (FSAS) were used to assess the depression, anxiety, and fatigue in front-line staff., Results: The detection rates of depression, anxiety, and fatigue were 49.1%, 21.8%, and 76.0% among the front-line staff. The rates of depression, anxiety, and fatigue in community workers were higher than those in medical workers and other occupational staff ( P <0.01). The PHQ-9 of front-line staffs was negatively correlated with age, family income, family members' support, satisfaction of service objects, and sleep quality (all P <0.01), while positively correlated with education level, fatigue, fear of pneumonia, and the duration of daily attention to the COVID-19 (all P <0.01). SAS was negatively correlated with age, family income, family support, satisfaction of objects service, and sleep quality (all P <0.01), while positively correlated with gender, fatigue, fear of pneumonia, and duration of daily attention to the COVID-19 (all P <0.01)., Conclusions: The front-line workers should manage work and rest time reasonably to adjust their negative mood and fatigue. The government and the society should pay more attention to the psychological state of the front-line staff, particularly for the staff working in the community or villages and towns in preventing the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, front-line staff can be obtained mental intervention or be taken a rest from the high-intensive work.

Background: Medical comorbidities in people with mental disorders have recently gained more attention. People with bipolar disorder (BD) often have comorbid low bone mass, which is associated with increased fracture risk and related severe outcomes. However, few clinical studies on bone metabolism in BD patients are available. This study was designed to assess bone mineral density (BMD) and related influencing factors in a sample of newly diagnosed, drug-naïve individuals with BD and age- and sex-matched healthy controls., Methods: Sixty-one drug-naïve individuals with BD (DSM-V) and 95 healthy volunteers had their lumbar spine (L1-L4) and left hip (Neck/Troch/Ward's) BMD determined by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Besides, sociodemographic and clinical assessment were collected. Between-group comparisons and within subgroup analysis were performed., Results: Drug-naïve patients with BD had significantly lower BMD in comparison to healthy controls in multiple sites (L1, L3, Neck, Troch, Ward's, and total hip). On subgroup analysis, overweight individuals with BD had higher bone mass, while females presented reduced BMD. Binary logistic regression showed that low BMD in multiple regions was associated with BD diagnosis, body mass index (BMI), gender, and age., Conclusion: Drug-naïve individuals with BD have lower BMD when compared to an age- and gender-matched healthy control sample. Low BMI and female gender are factors associated with this outcome. Aim & methods: A decision-analytic model was constructed to simulate a real-world cohort of Chinese patients visiting a Chinese regional mental health center for long-term health outcomes and direct medical costs. Results: When compared with age and gender-matched general population, the Chinese patients with schizophrenia were associated with reduced overall survival by 20.6 years (27.6 vs 48.2 years) and reduced quality-adjusted life years (QALY) by 18.4 QALY (18.4 vs 36.8 QALY), respectively, and increased lifetime direct medical costs by about three-times (US$84,324 vs 33,387 as of 31 December 2017) on average. Conclusion: The burden of schizophrenia was mainly driven by the mortality associated with relapsed schizophrenia and direct medical costs for schizophrenia in local mental health rehabilitation institutes.
