Introduction: When a new disease occurs, one of the most affordable remedies is drugs containing specific antibodies to this infectious agent. The use of such drugs is aimed at reducing the amount of the pathogen in the macroorganism and the associated reduction in the severity of the symptoms of the disease or recovery. The purpose of this review is to analyze the experience of using immunoglobulins and monoclonal antibodies in the treatment of COVID-19 patients during the pandemic., Results and Conclusion: The two main groups of medical protective agents that block the penetration of the SARS-CoV-2 virus into permissive cells are drugs obtained from blood plasma of convalescents (immunoglobulin) and human monoclonal antibodies. The first group of drugs in the treatment of COVID-19 includes blood plasma of convalescents, which can be successfully used for emergency prevention. The main disadvantage of using blood plasma convalescents is the difficulty of standardization due to the different content of specific antibodies in donors. Another disadvantage is the undesirable side effects in recipients that occur after plasma administration. An alternative approach to COVID-19 therapy is the use of humanized and genetically engineered human monoclonal antibodies against certain epitopes of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. For example, monoclonal antibodies against receptor-binding domain of the S-protein, which prevents the virus from entering permissive cells and interrupts the development of infection. The advantages of these drugs are their safety, high specific activity, and the possibility of standardization. However, the complexity of their production and high cost make them inaccessible for mass use in practical medicine.

Interpolyelectrolyte complexes (IPECs) formed by the interaction of two oppositely charged polyelectrolytes have been proposed as soil structure stabilizers. However, little is known about the environmental safety of IPECs. The goal of this study was to investigate the toxicity of a positively charged IPEC formed by two commercial polymers, namely the cationic biopolymer poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) and the anionic biopolymer lignohumate (LH), a humic-based plant growth promoter. Toxicity was assessed using cultures of the bacteria Escherichia coli, the ciliate Paramecium caudatum, mammalian (Bos taurus) spermatozoa in vitro, and three plant species (Sinapis alba, Raphanus sativus, and Triticum durum). The responses of test organisms were evaluated in contact with (1) polymer and water and (2) polymer and soil. In water, PDDA and IPEC were highly toxic to bacteria and ciliates at all concentrations and less toxic to mammalian cells. Higher plants were less sensitive to the polymers, and the toxicity progressively decreased in the order PDDA > IPEC > LH. In soil matrices; the phytotoxicity of PDDA and IPEC was found to be quite low, and none of the polymers was toxic to plants at concentrations that allowed the formation of polymeric soil crusts against erosion. This is because the toxicity of cationic polymers decreases as they enter the soil matrix and bind to organic matter and minerals., (© 2022. Purpose of the Study: To compare the effect of loading doses of atorvastatin and rosuvastatin on the value of the acute kidney injury and acute inflammatory response to elective percutaneous coronary interventions., Materials and Methods: An open prospective comparative study included 68 patients referred for elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). At baseline, all patients had been taking statins for a long time as a standard lipid-lowering therapy. The first group included 33 patients who received a loading dose of 80 mg of atorvastatin (As) 12 hours before the intervention with saving this dose for 2-6 days. The second group included 35 patients treated with rosuvastatin (Rs) 40 mg / day in the same manner. The levels of creatinine and cystatin C in the blood were determined at baseline and 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours after the intervention. HsCRP level was determined at baseline and 72 hours after PCI., Results: AKI was diagnosed in 5 patients (7.94 %): 4 patients (12.1 %) in group As and 1 patient (3.3 %) in group Rs (p = 0.36). The increase of serum creatinine level in the group As patients was 43.4 % higher than one in the Rs group patients (p = 0.024). The decrease of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in group As was 15.5 % higher than one in group Rs (p = 0.09). Initially, the level of cystatin C in the groups did not differ (698.9 (560.2-869.6) ng / ml in group As vs 759.5 (673.8-899.9) ng/ml in group Rs, p = 0.75). Significant intergroup differences were found in the level of serum cystatin C 12 hours after PCI (718.3 (555.6-839.6) ng/ml in group As vs 470.6 (378.2-689.4) ng/ml in the Rs group, p = 0.007) that persisted 24 hours after the intervention (732.1 (632.3-887) ng/ml vs 526.4 (357.4-802.7) ng/ml, respectively, p = 0.02). From the second day after PCI, intergroup differences in serum cystatin C disappeared. The level of hsCRP significantly increased 72 hours after the intervention in group As (1.65 (0.9-4) mg/l at baseline vs 4.55 (1.6-8.7) mg/l 72 hours after PCI, p = 0.01). The level of hsCRP did not change significantly at the same time in the Rs group (2.8 (0.8-6.8) mg/l at baseline vs 2.75 (1.5-6.5) mg/l 72 hours after PCI, p = 0.16)., Conclusion: The loading dose of rosuvastatin better prevents periprocedural kidney injury in PCI and more significantly reduces the overall inflammatory response to intervention compared to the loading dose of atorvastatin.

The role of JAK/STAT3-mediated signaling pathway in the realization of the growth potential of mesenchymal precursor cells was examined in vitro. The stimulating role of JAKs and STAT3 towards proliferating activity of progenitor cells and their different role in the regulation of differentiation of the progenitor elements were demonstrated. Inhibitors of JAKs and STAT3 reduced the yield of fibroblast CFU and their mitotic activity. Blockade of JAKs accelerated and selective inactivation of STAT3 decelerated differentiation of progenitor cells.

A cross-sectional study of universe sample of patients (N=135; mean age -49.7±0.8 years) with metabolic syndrome yielded the incidence of cardiac autonomic neuropathy of 37.5%. The pathogenetic peculiarities were revealed for the onset and development of this neuropathy. At the early stages, the progress of cardiac autonomic neuropathy closely correlated with elevation of blood glucose, while endothelial dysfunction progressing at the later period against the background of persistent hyperglycemia is viewed as an extra factor contributing to the development of this disease.

Background: Virtual autopsies by computer tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging can be valuable in cases of unexplained infant death. The radiologist must be familiar with the normal appearance of all the segments of the thoracic aorta in normal and deceased children. A thorough review of the literature revealed no prior articles describing CT changes in the ascending aorta or the aortic arch in pediatric virtual autopsies., Objectives: To compare the CT appearance of the thoracic aorta in deceased children and in those younger than 3 years of age., Methods: Hospital registries were searched for cases of unexpected deaths in children younger than 3 years old, with a postmortem CT available, as well as for clinically indicated chest CT in children of the same age during a 5 year period. The ascending aorta (AA), aortic arch (arch), and the descending aorta (DA) diameters were measured. Student's t-tests and Mann-Whitney U-tests were used to compare the two groups., Results: A total of 64 scans were reviewed: 35 postmortem and 29 performed on living patients. The differences in the diameter and the ratios of the diameter between the AA and the arch, as well as between the arch and the DA in the postmortem and living groups were statistically significant (P < 0.05)., Conclusions: On postmortem CT scans, we found focal tapering of the aortic caliber at the level of the arch between the origin of the brachiocephalic artery and left subclavian artery. This finding should not be misinterpreted as a hypoplastic aortic arch.

Aim: To present the results of perforative duodenal ulcer surgical management using combination of endoscopic methods., Material and Methods: The study included 279 patients with perforative duodenal ulcer who were operated for the period from 1996 to 2012. Diagnostics and medical tactics were based on developed in our clinic algorithm that includes use of both esophagogastroduodenoscopy and laparoscopy., Conclusion: Presented technique confirmed correct diagnosis, defined medical tactics and choice of surgery in 100% of cases. 67 patients had contraindications for laparoscopic suturing and underwent conventional operations. Herewith postoperative complications and death were observed in 25 (37.3%) and 9 (13.4%) patients respectively. Laparoscopic suturing was performed in 212 patients. Complications were diagnosed in 19 (8.9%) cases including 8 (3.7%) intraoperative and 11 (5.2%) postoperative. Deaths were absent.

It is presented the results of diagnostic and curative laparoscopic interventions in 33 patients with acute early adhesive small bowel obstruction. Ileus developed after surgical treatment (laparotomy) of different gynecological diseases. Laparoscopy appeared as the most informative diagnostic method to confirm diagnosis in all patients, to estimate state of abdominal cavity and small pelvis organs what can help to determine method of surgical treatment. Contraindications for laparoscopic surgery were identified in 12 (36.4%) patients and conversion to laparotomy was applied in this group. Postoperative complications were diagnosed in 1 (8.3%) patient. 2 (16.6%) patients died. Early adhesive ileus was resolved laparoscopically in 21 (63.6%) of 33 patients. Recurrent acute early adhesive ileus was detected in 1 (4.7%) patient.

The goal of this work was to describe methodological approaches to determination of sensitivity and specificity of the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit (ELISA Kit) for detection of the specific anti-Junin virus (JV) antibody. Comparison of ELISA to plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT) showed direct relationship between antibody titers in the samples of serum of immunized animals, determined by either PRNT or ELISA methods. The obtained results provided an opportunity to form the panels of positive and negative serum samples to determine the sensitivity and specificity of the ELISA Kit. Sensitivity of the ELISA Kit was at least 98% when studying the samples of serum of immunized guinea pigs and rabbits (determined as positive in PRNT). The sensitivity of the ELISA Kit was at least 68% when studying the samples determined by PNRT as uncertain positive. The specificity was 98%. The specificity of the ELISA Kit was 98%.

Aim: To estimate the role of emergency laparoscopic interventions in diagnosis and treatment of acute early adhesive intestinal obstruction., Material and Methods: It is presented the results of diagnostic and curative laparoscopic interventions in 58 patients with suspected acute early adhesive intestinal obstruction after abdominal surgery. Complex clinical-instrumental, non-invasive diagnosis does not always reveal this complication in early postoperative period. Diagnostic laparoscopy was the most informative method to assess state of abdominal cavity, to establish and characterize acute early adhesive intestinal obstruction, to determine following treatment and choice of surgery in all patients., Results: Diagnosis of intestinal obstruction was not confirmed in 15 (25.9%) patients based laparoscopic checkup. Acute early adhesive intestinal obstruction was established in 43 (74.1%) patients. Small intestine injuries were observed in 2 (4.5%) cases during laparoscopy. Contraindications to laparoscopic treatment of obstruction were determined in 18 (41.9%) patients in whom conventional operations were performed with complications and death in 7 (38.8%) and 3 (16.6%) cases respectively. Curative laparoscopy was applied in 23 (53.4%) patients with successful resolving of intestinal obstruction and complications in 19 (82.7%) and 4 (17.4%) cases respectively.

Aim: Study sensitivity of laboratory animals to a causative agent ofArgentine hemorrhagic fever., Materials and Methods: Junin virus strain XJ P37 was obtained from the State Collection of Causative Agents of Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers of the Pathogenicity Group I of Scientific Research Center of the 33rd Central Scientific Research Test Institute (SRC of the 33rd CSRTI). Junin virus strain XJ P37 culture with biological activity of 5.2 1g PFU x ml was used in the experiments. Mice (2 - 4 and 7 - 14 days old), guinea pigs (250 - 300 g), 1.8 - 2.5 kg shinshilla breed rabbits, 2.0 - 3.0 kg javanese macaque monkeys were obtained from vivarium of the SRC of the 33rd CSRTI. Vero (B) and GMK-AH-1 (D) cell cultures were obtained from cell culture collection of the SRC of the 33rd CSRTI. Biological activity calculation of Junin virus was carried out by Kerber in I.P. Amsharin modification., Results: Lethality in animals was from 12.5 to 50% after intranasal and intraperitoneal infection of guinea pigs, intramuscular, intraperitoneal and subcutaneous infection of rabbits, intracerebral and intranasal infection of mice at the doses from 0.4 to 1.0 x 10(5) PFU. Death of infected monkeys after intramuscular administration of the virus at 1.0 x 10(4) PFU dose was not observed. In 100% of surviving animals formation of virus-neutralizing antibodies was registered., Conclusion: Evaluation of sensitivity of laboratory animals to Junin virus has shown that intracerebrally infected mice may be used to maintain causative agent culture, infected guinea pigs - to prepare virus-containing cultures and modelling infection exacerbation in humans. Intramuscularly infected rabbits may be used to obtain hyper-immune sera.

The features of the clinical symptoms was studied, the possibility of laparoscopy in modern diagnosis and treatment of epiploic appendices torsion and necrosis of the large bowel was assessed in the article. It was done the retrospective analysis of the medical records of 87 patients with a diagnosis of epiploic appendices torsion and necrosis of the large bowel. The patients had laparoscopic operations in our hospital in the period from January 1995 to December 2012. The clinical picture, laboratory and instrumental datas in cases of epiploic appendices torsion and necrosis were scarce and nonspecific. An abdominal pain preferentially localized in the lower divisions was the main symptom (97.7%). The instrumental methods did not allow to diagnose the torsion and necrosis of epiploic appendices in the majority of cases and all these techniques were used for the differential diagnosis with other diseases. The assumption of the presence of appendices torsion and necrosis occured just in 34.5% of cases before the operation. Diagnosis of epiploic appendices torsion and necrosis present significant difficulties on prehospital and preoperative stages. The diagnostic laparoscopy is the method of choice in unclear situations and it allows to diagnose the torsion and necrosis of epiploic appendices in 96.6% of cases. Successful surgical treatment by using laparoscopic approach is possible in 90.8% of cases.

The article presents the use of laparoscopic interventions in 38 patients with Acute Adhesive Small Bowel Obstruction (AASBO) in patients without previous history of abdominal surgery. Clinical, radiological and ultrasound patterns of disease are analyzed. The use of laparoscopy has proved itself the most effective and relatively safe diagnostic procedure. In 14 (36.8%) patients convertion to laparotomy was made due to contraindications for laparoscopy. In 24 (63.2%) patients laparosopic adhesyolisis was performed and AASBO subsequently treated with complications rate of 4.2%.

Aim: Optimization of conditions of quantitative evaluation of Argentine hemorrhagic fever causative agent., Materials and Methods: Junin virus (XJ P37 strain) was obtained from National collection of viral hemorrhagic fever causative agents of the 1st pathogenicity group of the 33rd Central Research Testing Institute. Junin virus (XJ P37 strain) culture with biological activity of 5.2 lg PFUxm(-1) was used in the experiments. Vero B, 6619-1(D) and GMK-AH-1(D) were obtained from collection of cell culture of the Research Scientific Centre of the 33rd Central Research Testing Institute. Calculation of biological activity of Junin virus during titration in cell cultures was carried out by Kerber method with modification by I.P. Ashmarin., Results: During incubation for 4 - 7 days after the infection of cell monolayer the determined biological activity was 4.4 - 6.4 lg PFUxml(-1); the size of the formed negative colonies--(1.5 +/- 0.5) mm., Conclusion: The conditions of quantitative evaluation of Argentine hemorrhagic fever were optimized by negative colonies method (using 5 - 7 day Vero B cell culture monolayer with staining of monolayer on day 5 of secondary incubation, recording of results at day 7 after the infection).

We report an unusual case of AASBO presenting like postcholecystectomy syndrome and acute pancreatitis. Diagnostic and therapeutic scope of laparoscopic interventions and endoscopic nasointestinal decompression in AASBO management is demonstrated.

A retrospective analysis of treatment of 82 patients with torsion and necrosis of appendices epiploica was made. The video-laparoscopic surgery of these patients was performed. When the diagnosis is unclear, the differential diagnostics should be made between the appendices epiploica disease and other abdominal diseases using the video-laparoscopy. This method allowed the establishment of the correct diagnosis of torsion and necrosis of appendices epiploica in 95.1% of patients. The laparoscopic treatment was made in 87.8% of cases with minimal quantity of postoperative complications. The video-laparoscopy allowed the detection of accompanying pathology of abdominal organs and performance of the correction by low-invasive method. The need of conversion occurred in 12.2% of patients. Postoperative period was characterized by uneventful recovery, minimal usage of analgesics and antibiotics, early stages of rehabilitation, perfect cosmetic effect in majority of patients.

Particles sampled from the main and auxiliary ship diesel engine exhausts during a measurement campaign aboard a cargo ship are studied by SEM and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) microanalysis. Cluster analysis (CA) is applied to characterize the particles by separating them into distinct groups of similar morphology and chemical composition, representative of the particle types in the exhaust from the main and auxiliary engines. Raman microspectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and ion chromatography provide the criteria for the clustering of a large data set of individual particles. To identify chemical and morphological features of heavy and distillate fuel oil-derived PM emissions, micromarkers discriminating between the different types of emitted particles are proposed. These micromarkers could enable the classification of multicomponent aerosols according to a source type. This characterization of complex multicomponent aerosols emitted by ship diesel engines improves the quantification of the contribution of shipping to ambient air particulates, and can help to identify a source type in apportionment studies.

The authors analyze their experience with video-capsular enteroscopy and balloon-assisted enteroscopy in 184 patients. High diagnostic significance of enteroscopy and the possibility to perform minimally invasive operations are shown.

Unlabelled: The aim of the study is to evaluate the possibilities of videocapsule endoscopy (VCE), single and double balloon enteroscopy in diagnosis of small bowel Crohn's disease., Material and Methods: From V.2003 to IV.2011 we observed 52 pts. with suspected small bowel Crohn's disease; 8 (15.4%) of them were operated urgently because of complications. Another 44 pts (m-23, f-21, ranged from 15-72 years, mean age 37.5 +/- 12.0 years) underwent complex examination including 19 VCE and 49 BAE in 32 pts.(incl. 7 after VCE)., Results: Typical Crohn's disease appearance was found in 15 (34.1%) pts (incl. 4pts after VCE) from 44 who were examined endoscopically. In 8 pts we've revealed stenosis, in 4 of them we've passed through the ileocecal valve stenosis by bouginage with the enteroscope and were able to examine superior area. After performing target biopsy from the small bowel mucosal lesions Pirogov - Langhans cells were found in 5 (33.3%) pts. We haven't found any signs of Crohn's disease in 17 pts. (no abnormalities found-6, enteritis-9, celiac disease-1, NSAID-ulcers-1). Conservative treatment has been applied in 10 (66.7%) pts., surgical intervention - in 5 (33.3%) pts. There was a capsule retention in 2 (10.5%) pts. There were no any complications in BAE. CONCLUSION; The use of the new enteroscopic techniques substantially improves the diagnosis of small bowel

The novel techniques of enteroscopy provide stable access into difficult for accessing parts of the small intestine, guarantee high quality diagnostics and topmost the possibility for getting biopsy and to treat small bowel diseases. The paper discusses the benefits and possibilities of video capsule and balloon-assisted enteroscopy: the main directions of usage, indications and contraindications, methodological aspects of jejunoileo- and colonoileoscopy. We presented our own experience in video capsule endoscopy and single balloon enteroscopy (128 procedures in 92 patients) in diagnostics and treatment of small bowel diseases.

The time course of changes in the activity of solutions of horseradish peroxidase conjugates with immunoglobulins against Ebola and Marburg fevers was studied in the presence of different components. The series of the conjugates of ELISA kits for the detection of Ebola and Marburg virus antigens, which were prepared on the basis of the designed stabilizing solution, preserved at less than 90% of its baseline activity during 10 months at a storage temperature of 2 to 8 degrees C.

When heat shock proteins (HSPs) are used as biomarkers in monitoring studies of aquatic ecosystems, it is necessary to take into account the specificity of synthesis of these proteins in various organisms. This especially applies to endemic species and species with narrow ranges of adaptation for specific conditions in certain water bodies. In this study, we assessed the possibility to use HSPs as molecular stress markers in species with a narrow niche breadth using endemic Baikal amphipods (Crustacea, Amphipoda) as an example. The effect of stress induced by toxicants and temperature has been assessed. Proteins of families HSP70 and low-molecular-weight HSP related to alpha-crystallins were used as biomarkers. Temperature- and toxicant-induced stresses induced low-molecular-weight HSP synthesis in the endemic amphipod species studied. However, induction of HSP70 synthesis in the same species after temperature stress has not been detected. The specificity of synthesis of HSP70 is discussed. The results obtained in this study suggest that low-molecular-weight HSPs can be used as stress markers in Baikal species and species with a narrow niche breadth.

Experience in diagnosis and treatment of 276 patients with Mallory--Weiss syndrome (MWS) is presented. Definition of the syndrome and brief historical review (from first description of disruption of esophageal-gastric connection to first report of successful hemostasis through endoscope) are given. Particular attention is devoted to etiology and pathogenesis of this syndrome. Clinical material and picture of disease, results of endoscopic diagnosis are analyzed, efficacy of endoscopic hemostasis and prophylaxis of hemorrhage is demonstrated. Indications to various methods of endoscopic hemostasis are regarded, results of treatment and lethal outcomes are analyzed. It is demonstrated that endoscopic procedures are the method of choice in the treatment of this disease reducing emergency surgery rate to 0.4%.

This study examined the influence of acupuncture and an agonist of opiate receptors (Procedol) by means of temperature in both the left and right auricular "Lung" points, and on the coefficient of interhemisphere asymmetry. Twenty heroin dependent patients participated in this research. They were evenly divided into two groups. Both groups consisted of 10 male drug addicts (18-19 years old) who had been using heroin for 8-10 months. Group 1 received 1.0 ml procedol (i.m.). Group 2 were treated with acupuncture. Temperature was measured on the acupuncture points before and after treatment. Results of this study showed that temperature increased on the left and decreased on the right acupuncture points in both the procedol and acupuncture treated groups. The net changes before and after treatment were 92.87% and 92.53% in groups 1 and 2 respectively. The therapeutic effect of acupuncture on treatment of heroin dependence is through the same pathway as the agonist on opiate receptors, 20% of patients are resisted to acupuncture.

The sensitivity of an alcoholic's sensory systems (SS) to alcohol therapy is a good indication of treatment efficacy in this disease. In this study, we compare pharmacotherapy (PHT) and acupuncture therapy (AP) on the sensitivity of visual (VL), acoustic (AC), olfactory (OL) and taste (TS) systems to alcohol irritants (AI). The results showed that PHT changed the threshold sensitivity of SS to AI but did not cause aversion of SS to AI. In acupuncture treatment, results can be divided into four groups: Group 1, no aversion of AC was produced to AI; Group 2, no aversion of TS and OL were produced to AI; Group 3, no aversion of VL to AI; and group 4, no aversion was recorded to AI. Supposedly, one of the sensory systems of the organism is genetically leading in organizing sensory-emotional operation of information, and other SS are subordinates. Therefore, before acupuncture treatment for alcoholism, it is necessary to cause excitation to the ethanol-dependent system (target-system) by means of irritation to the leading sensory system of the patient.

Central and peripheral hemodynamics was studied by the radioisotope method employing 131I-labelled albumin, the blood flow in the muscles was investigated (using 133Xe) and the longitudinal rheovasogram of the leg and forearm recorded in 10 healthy male volunteers before, during, and after 45-day antiorthostatic hypokinesia. Five of the examines received isoptin, while the remaining 5 formed the control group. Due to the effect of hypokinesia a tendency towards a a decrease in the circulation volume, a reduced stroke index, an increase in the central venous pressure and peripheral resistance, and a decrease in the muscular blood flow were observed. With the prescription of isoptin the changes in the cardiac index and peripheral resistance were corrected, but there was no esstential effect on the level of the venous pressure and the muscular blood flow.
