The herbarium digitization process is an essential first step in transforming the vast amount of data associated with a physical specimen into flexible digital data formats. In this framework, the Herbarium of the University of Pisa (international code PI), at the end of 2018 started a process of digitization focusing on one of its most relevant collections: the Herbarium of Michele Guadagno (1878-1930). This scholar studied flora and vegetation of different areas of southern Italy, building a large herbarium including specimens collected by himself, plus many specimens obtained through exchanges with Italian and foreign botanists. The Herbarium is composed by 547 packages of vascular plants. Metadata were entered into the online database Virtual Herbaria JACQ and mirrored into a personalized virtual Herbarium of the Botanic Museum. After the completion of the digitization process, the number of sheets preserved in the Herbarium amounts to 44,345. Besides Guadagno, who collected 42% of his specimens, a further 1,102 collectors are represented. Most specimens were collected in Europe (91%), but all the continents are represented. As expected, Italy is the most represented country (59%), followed by France, Spain, Germany, and Greece. The specimens cover a time span of 99 years, from 1830 to 1929, whereas the specimens collected by Guadagno range between 1889 and 1928. This study was conducted to document the use of toxic or potentially toxic plants for the treatment of ailments in livestock and pets in ethnoveterinary practice in Italy. More than 250 of the entities used (81% for curative purposes) can be toxic unless dosed appropriately. Many (55%) are dietary supplements. The list included 186 species (45%) for internal and 175 (55%) for external use, many used in places where animals are kept. The species belong to 71 families, among which the Fabaceae predominate. The purpose of the study was to provide information that can be validated and associated with correct determination, permitting even potentially dangerous plants to be used in veterinary practice.

We report folk veterinary phytotherapy in Italy collected from ethnobotanical scientific literature of the second half of the 20th Century. References are cited together with unpublished data gathered recently in the field by the authors. The data have been placed in two databases: one organized by the names of the plant species (> 260) and the other organized by bibliographic references. This represents the basis for the first national databank for ethnoveterinary botany in Europe. Plants not yet sufficiently studied in pharmacology and veterinary phytotherapy were also identified.

The physiopathology of the hemorrhagic blood coagulation disorders caused by genetic or aquired problems is described. Among the former the most frequent ones include the hemophilia of type A-B and the von Willebrand disease, among the latter the use of oral anticoagulant constitutes the most frequent cause. If the are not subjected to an adequate haemostatic prophylaxis, both patients with hemophilia and von Willebrand disease present a serious haemorrhagic risk as a consequence of dental practice. As far as the use of anticoagulants is concerned, a periodical monitoring of the time of prothrombin (PT) is needed to find the right dosage (TP between 20%-30% or INR--international normalized radio between 2 and 3.5). Values over this range cause an increase of the hemorrhagic risk, while lower values involve an increased risk of thrombotic events. According to the authors the patients with the hemorrhagic diathesis show a precise handicap, caused both by his illness and by environmental elements, such as the fear of doctors for the haemorrhagic complications consequent to a therapeutical operation, fear that often leads to neglect important medical measures, in particular dental measures. The specialized dental surgeon has to mantain a strict cooperation with the hematologist in order to arrange an appropriate procedure of the prophylaxis. As far as the hemostatic prophylaxis is concerned, the use of the dermopressin (DDAVP), in patients with hemophilia A and von Willebrand disease, guarantees the realisation of dental practice without hemorrhagic risk. On the contrary, the use of the tranhexanic acid on patients in an anticoagulant oral treatment gives hemostatic security and makes it possible to carry on the therapy and the out-patient treatment.

The Authors planned an epidemiological survey to evaluate the prevalence of malocclusion in a target group of children living in the Ussl 8-Vicenza. The results confirm the data in the literature. The Authors think necessary to carry on more precise longitudinal epidemiological studies, orthodontic prevention of malocclusion during childhood and interceptive therapy.

The Authors have made a stratified randomized enquiry about scholastic population of the Ulss no 8. The results obtained have shown a high prevalence of the decayed phenomenon in all bands of age.

The Authors describe the classification of the malocclusion by Angle, and considerate one open byte case, may be caused by extrusion of first lower right molar, describing orthodontic treatment for his correction.

The Authors, after a clinic and diagnostic classification of keratocysts, described a case of keratocyst treated by surgical enucleation.
