Mixed Br/Cl perovskite nanocrystals (PeNCs) exhibit bright pure-blue emission benefiting for fulfilling the Rec. 2100 standard. However, phase segregation remains a significant challenge that severely affects the stability and emission spectrum of perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs). Here, we demonstrate the optimization of the spacing between polydentate functional groups of polymer ligands to match the surface pattern of CsPbBr 1.8 Cl 1.2 PeNCs, resulting in effective synergistic passivation effect and significant improvements in PeLED performances. The block and alternating copolymers with different inter-functional group spacing are facilely synthesized as ligands for PeNCs. Surprisingly, block copolymers with a higher functional group density do not match PeNCs, while alternating copolymers enable efficient PeNCs with the high photoluminescence intensity, low non-radiative recombination rate and high exciton binding energy. Density functional theory calculations clearly confirm the almost perfect match between alternating copolymers and PeNCs. Finally, pure-blue PeLEDs are achieved with the emission at 467 nm and Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.131, 0.071), high external quantum efficiency (9.1 %) and record spectral and operational stabilities (~80 mins) in mixed-halide PeLEDs. The Chubao black-head goat is a novel hybrid breed that combines the advantages of Macheng black goats, such as good reproductive performance, strong adaptability, and resistance to rough feeding, with the superior growth and meat characteristics of Boer goats. Given the substantial economic importance of growth (such as birth weight, body height, body length, and chest circumference across different growth stages) and reproductive traits (particularly average litter size after first parity), the aim of this study was to identify significant SNPs and candidate genes associated with these traits in Chubao black-head goats. Through whole-genome sequencing (with 34 goats at approximately 15× coverage and 466 goats at approximately 1× coverage), genotype imputation, and quality control, 22,665,331 SNPs were identified and subsequently used for genetic analyses. Heritability estimates indicated that growth traits exhibit moderate to high heritability (ranging from 0.297 ± 0.071 to 0.535 ± 0.118), while reproductive traits demonstrated low to moderate heritability (with a value of 0.220 ± 0.108). By performing FarmCPU-based genome-wide association studies, we identified 48 potentially significant SNPs associated with growth traits and 7 with reproductive traits. Additionally, 85 candidate genes (such as COL14A1, ZNF148, and TTC39C) linked to growth traits were identified and enriched in pathways associated with fundamental molecular biological activities such as protein deubiquitination, regulation of mRNA stability, and the MAPK signaling pathway. Furthermore, 10 candidate genes (such as SOHLH2, CCNA2, and SOX7) associated with reproductive traits were identified and enriched in pathways related to specific reproductive processes such as oocyte differentiation, endoderm formation, and progesterone-mediated oocyte maturation. Overall, these findings provide valuable preliminary insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying growth and reproductive traits in Chubao black-head goats. To predict the development of health resource allocation in Jilin Province during the 14th 5-Year Plan period, and to provide a scientific basis for promoting the improvement of its service capacity. The data of the health resource from 2015 to 2022 were obtained from the Jilin Statistical Yearbook, and the number of medical institutions, medical beds, health technicians, licensed (assistant) physicians, registered nurses and pharmacists were selected as evaluation indicators, and the grey prediction model constructed by Python was used to predict the development from 2023 to 2025. In the 14th 5-Year Plan period, the health resource in Jilin Province showed an increasing trend, and it is predicted that in 2025, the number of medical institutions, medical beds, health technicians, licensed (assistant) physicians, registered nurses, and pharmacists in Jilin Province will reach 28,999, 196,328, 262,219, 101,273, 129,586, and 9469, respectively. Except that the pharmacist team failed to meet the planning objectives of the 14th 5-Year Plan, the remaining health resources could meet the planning requirements. The allocation level of health resources in Jilin Province has been continuously improved, but it still faces the problems that the allocation of medical beds needs to be optimized, the doctor-nurse ratio needs to be improved, the reserve of registered nurses is insufficient, there is a gap in the pharmacist team, and the development of pharmacy services is slow., Competing Interests: The authors have no conflicts of interest to disclose., (Copyright © 2024 the Author(s). Reusable point-of-care biosensors offer a cost-effective solution for serial biomarker monitoring, addressing the critical demand for tumour treatments and recurrence diagnosis. However, their realization has been limited by the contradictory requirements of robust reusability and high sensing capability to multiple interactions among transducer surface, sensing probes and target analytes. Here we propose a drug-mediated organic electrochemical transistor as a robust, reusable epidermal growth factor receptor sensor with striking sensitivity and selectivity. By electrostatically adsorbing protonated gefitinib onto poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate and leveraging its strong binding to the epidermal growth factor receptor target, the device operates with a unique refresh-in-sensing mechanism. It not only yields an ultralow limit-of-detection concentration down to 5.74 fg ml -1 for epidermal growth factor receptor but, more importantly, also produces an unprecedented regeneration cycle exceeding 200. We further validate the potential of our devices for easy-to-use biomedical applications by creating an 8 × 12 diagnostic drug-mediated organic electrochemical transistor array with excellent uniformity to clinical blood samples., (© 2024. Zinc metal is recognized as the most promising anode for aqueous energy storage but suffers from severe dendrite growth and poor reversibility. However, the coulombic efficiency lacks specificity for zinc dendrite growth, particularly in Zn||Zn symmetric cells. Herein, a novel indicator (f D ) based on the characteristic crystallization peaks is proposed to evaluate the growth and distribution of zinc dendrites. As a proof of concept, triethylenetetramine (TETA) is adopted as an electrolyte additive to manipulate the zinc flux for uniform deposition, with a corroborating low f D value. A highly durable zinc symmetric cell is achieved, lasting over 2500 h at 10 mA cm -2 and 400 h at a large discharge of depth (10 mA cm -2 , 10 mAh cm -2 ). Supported by the low f D value, the Zn||TETA-ZnSO 4 ||MnO 2 batteries overcome the sudden short circuit and fast capacity fading. Background: The prognosis of persistent, recurrent or metastatic cervical and endometrial cancer is poor. Anlotinib is a novel multitarget tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). The efficacy and safety of anlotinib in patients with cervical and endometrial cancer need to be evaluated., Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the efficacy and safety of anlotinib in patients with persistent, recurrent or metastatic cervical and endometrial cancers between March 2020 and June 2023. The objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and adverse events (AEs) were analyzed., Results: The overall ORR and DCR were 24.14% and 55.17% respectively. The ORR and DCR in patients with cervical cancer were 25.00% and 56.25%; the ORR and DCR in patients with endometrial cancer were 23.08% and 53.85%. The patients received anlotinib plus immunotherapy had significantly higher rate of clinical benefit than those receiving anlotinnb alone (P=0.04). The DCR was significantly higher in patients receiving anlotinib combined with immunotherapy (DCR: 75.00% vs. 30.76%) than those without immunotherapy. The overall median PFS and OS were 12.2 months [95% confidence interval (CI): 6.6-17.8] and 22.3 months (95% CI: 20.9-23.7), respectively. The patients receiving anlotinib plus immunotherapy had significantly longer OS than those without immunotherapy [not reached vs. 12.5 months; hazard ratio (HR): 0.32 (95% CI: 0.1-0.99); P=0.04]. The most common AEs was fatigue (41.4%)., Conclusions: Anlotinib might be a promising agent for persistent, recurrent or metastatic cervical and endometrial cancers with good tolerability. Zinc-finger proteins are involved in many biological processes. However, the role of Zinc-finger protein 334 (ZNF334) in cervical cancer remains unidentified. This study showed that promoter methylation of ZNF334 was responsible for its reduced expression. ZNF334 suppressed malignant biological behaviors in cervical cancer. Notably, ZNF334 reversed the EMT process both in vitro and in vivo. RNA-seq coupled with bioinformatics analysis caught P3H3 which is upregulated by ZNF334. Dual-luciferase reporter and Chromatin immunoprecipitation assays illustrated that ZNF334 directly regulate P3H3. Knockdown of P3H3 attenuated the reversal of EMT induced by ZNF334. Additionally, ZNF334 overexpression sensitized cervical cancer cells to the cytotoxic effects of paclitaxel, cyclosporine and sunitinib. In conclusions, this study illustrated that DNA methylation-based silencing ZNF334 played a vital role in cervical cancer, by regulating P3H3 in turn affects EMT. Residual solvents in vinylidene fluoride (VDF)-based solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) have been recognized as responsible for their high ionic conductivity. However, side reactions by the residual solvents with the lithium (Li) metal induce poor stability, which has been long neglected. This study proposes a strategy to achieve a delicate equilibrium between ion conduction and electrode stability for VDF-based SPEs. Specifically, 2,2,2-trifluoro-N,N-dimethylacetamide (FDMA) is developed as the nonside reaction solvent for poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVHF)-based SPEs, achieving both high ionic conductivity and significantly improved electrochemical stability. The developed FDMA solvent fosters the formation of a stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) through interface reactions with Li metal, effectively mitigating side reactions and dendrite growth on the Li metal electrode. Consequently, the Li||Li symmetric cells and Li||LiFePO 4 cells demonstrate excellent cycling performance, even under limited Li (20 µm thick) supply and high-loading cathodes (>10 mg cm -2 , capacity >1 mAh cm -2 ) conditions. The stable Li||LiCoO 2 cells operation with a cutoff voltage of 4.48 V indicates the high-voltage stability of the developed SPE. Photogenerated radicals are an indispensable member of the state-of-the-art photochromic material family, as they can effectively modulate the photoluminescence and photothermal conversion performance of radical-induced photochromic complexes. Herein, two novel radical-induced photochromic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), [Ag(TEPE)](AC) ⋅  7 / 4 H 2 O ⋅  5 / 4 EtOH (1) and [Ag(TEPE)](NC) ⋅ 3H 2 O ⋅ EtOH (2), are reported. Distinctly different topological networks can be obtained by judiciously introducing alternative π-conjugated anionic guests, including a new topological structure (named as sfm) first reported in this work, describing as 4,4,4,4-c net. EPR data and UV-Vis spectra prove the radical-induced photochromic mechanism. Dynamic photochromism exhibits tunability in a wide CIE color space, with a linear segment from yellow to red for 1, while a curved coordinate line for 2, resulting in colorful emission from blue to orange. Moreover, photogenerated TEPE* radicals effectively activate the near-infrared (NIR) photothermal conversion effect of MOFs. Under 1 W cm -2 808 nm laser irradiation, the surface temperatures of photoproducts 1* and 2* can reach ~160 °C and ~120 °C, respectively, with competitive NIR photothermal conversion efficiencies η=51.8 % (1*) and 36.2 % (2*). Antimony (Sb) decontamination in water is necessary owing to the worsening pollution which seriously threatens human life safety. Designing bismuth-based photocatalysts with hydroxyls have attracted growing interest because of the broad bandgap and enhanced separation efficiency of photogenerated electron/hole pairs. Until now, the available photocatalysis information regarding bismuth-based photocatalysts with hydroxyls has remained scarce and the contemporary report has been largely limited to Bi 3 O(OH)(PO 4 ) 2 (BOHP). Herein, Bi 3 O(OH)(AsO 4 ) 2 (BOHAs), a novel ultraviolet photocatalyst, was fabricated via the co-precipitation method for the first time, and developed to simultaneous photocatalytic oxidation and adsorption of Sb(III). The rate constant of Sb(III) removal by the BOHAs was 32.4, 3.0, and 4.3 times higher than those of BiAsO 4 , BOHP, and TiO 2 , respectively, indicating that the introduction of hydroxyls could increase the removal of Sb(III). Additionally, the crucial operational parameters affecting the adsorption performance (catalyst dosage, concentration, pH, and common anions) were investigated. The BOHAs maintained 85% antimony decontamination of the initial yield after five successive cycles of photocatalysis. The Sb(III) removal involved photocatalytic oxidation of adsorbed Sb(III) and subsequent adsorption of the yielded Sb(V). With the acquired knowledge, we successfully applied the photocatalyst for antimony removal from industrial wastewater. In addition, BOHAs could also be powerful photocatalysts in the photodegradation of organic pollutants studies of which are ongoing. With the increasing need for reliable storage systems, the conversion-type chemistry typified by bromine cathodes attracts considerable attention due to sizeable theoretical capacity, cost efficiency, and high redox potential. However, the severe loss of active species during operation remains a problem, leading researchers to resort to concentrated halide-containing electrolytes. Here, profiting from the intrinsic halide exchange in perovskite lattices, a novel low-dimensional halide hybrid perovskite cathode, TmdpPb 2 [IBr] 6 , which serves not only as a halogen reservoir for reversible three-electron conversions but also as an effective halogen absorbent by surface Pb dangling bonds, C─H…Br hydrogen bonds, and Pb─I…Br halogen bonds, is proposed. As such, the Zn||TmdpPb 2 [IBr] 6 battery delivers three remarkable discharge voltage plateaus at 1.21 V (I 0 /I - ), 1.47 V (I + /I 0 ), and 1.74 V (Br 0 /Br - ) in a typical halide-free electrolyte; meanwhile, realizing a high capacity of over 336 mAh g -1 at 0.4 A g -1 and high capacity retentions of 88% and 92% after 1000 cycles at 1.2 A g -1 and 4000 cycles at 3.2 A g -1 , respectively, accompanied by a high coulombic efficiency of ≈99%. Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is in urgent need of a second-line or later-line treatment strategy. We aimed to analyze the efficacy and safety of additional anlotinib, specifically anlotinib in combination with immunotherapy, in patients with PDAC who have failed first-line therapy., Methods: Patients with pathological diagnosis of PDAC were additionally treated with anlotinib, and some patients were treated with anti-PD-1 agents at the same time, which could be retrospectively analyzed. The efficacy and safety of additional anlotinib were evaluated., Results: A total of 23 patients were included. In patients treated with additional anlotinib, the overall median progression-free survival (PFS) was 1.8 months and the median overall survival (OS) was 6.3 months, regardless of anti-PD-1 agents. Among patients receiving additional anlotinib in combination with anti-PD-1 agents, median PFS and OS were 1.8 and 6.5 months, respectively. Adverse events (AEs) were observed in 16 patients (69.6%). In patients treated with additional anlotinib, the majority of AEs were grade 1-3. Univariate analysis revealed that patients with baseline red blood cell distribution width (RDW) <14% treated with additional anlotinib plus anti-PD-1 agents had significantly longer OS than patients with baseline RDW ≥14% ( p  = 0.025). Patients with additional anlotinib plus anti-PD-1 agents as second-line therapy had a longer OS than those treated as later-line therapy ( p  = 0.012). Multivariate analysis showed that baseline RDW was the only independent risk factor for OS ( p  = 0.042)., Conclusion: The combination of anlotinib and immunotherapy represents an effective add-on therapy with tolerable AEs as second- or later-line therapy in patients with PDAC, particularly in patients with baseline RDW <14%., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest., (© 2024 The Authors. Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a significant contributor to global mortality and disability, and emerging evidence indicates that trigeminal nerve electrical stimulation (TNS) is a promising therapeutic intervention for neurological impairment following TBI. However, the precise mechanisms underlying the neuroprotective effects of TNS in TBI are poorly understood. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate the potential involvement of the orexin-A (OX-A)/orexin receptor 1 (OX1R) mediated TLR4/NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling pathway in the neuroprotective effects of TNS in rats with TBI., Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to four groups: sham, TBI, TBI+TNS+SB334867, and TBI+TNS. TBI was induced using a modified Feeney's method, and subsequent behavioral assessments were conducted to evaluate neurological function. The trigeminal nerve trunk was isolated, and TNS was administered following the establishment of the TBI model. The levels of neuroinflammation, brain tissue damage, and proteins associated with the OX1R/TLR4/NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling pathway were assessed using hematoxylin-eosin staining, Nissl staining, western blot analysis, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, and immunofluorescence techniques., Results: The findings of our study indicate that TNS effectively mitigated tissue damage, reduced brain edema, and alleviated neurological deficits in rats with TBI. Furthermore, TNS demonstrated the ability to attenuate neuroinflammation levels and inhibit the expression of proteins associated with the TLR4/NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling pathway. However, it is important to note that the aforementioned effects of TNS were reversible upon intracerebroventricular injection of an OX1R antagonist., Conclusion: TNS may prevent brain damage and relieve neurological deficits after a TBI by inhibiting inflammation, possibly via the TLR4/NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling pathway mediated by OX-A/OX1R.

The therapeutic outcomes for bladder cancer (BLCA) remain suboptimal. Concurrently, there is a growing appreciation for the role of neoantigens in tumors. In this study, we explored the mechanisms underlying the involvement of neoantigen-associated genes in BLCA and their impact on prognosis. Our analysis incorporated both single-cell sequencing and bulk sequencing data sourced from publicly available databases. By employing a comprehensive set of 10 machine learning algorithms, we generated 101 algorithm combinations. The optimal combination, determined based on consistency indices, was utilized to construct a prognostic model comprising nine genes (CAPG, ACTA2, PDIA6, AKNA, PTMS, SNAP23, ID2, CD3G, SP140). Subsequently, we validated this model in an independent cohort, demonstrating its robust testing efficacy. Moreover, we explored the correlations between various clinical traits, model scores, and genes. Leveraging extensive public data resources, we conducted a drug sensitivity analysis to provide insights for targeted drug screening. Additionally, consensus clustering analysis and immune infiltration analysis were performed on bulk sequencing datasets and immunotherapy cohorts. Tissue engineering envisions functional substitute creation for damaged tissues. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) plays roles in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (BMSC) osteogenic differentiation (OD), and we investigated its specific mechanism. BMSCs were cultured and OD was induced. Surface antigens (CD105, CD90, CD44, CD45, CD34) were identified by flow cytometry. Adipogenic, chondrogenic, and osteogenic differentiation abilities of BMSCs were observed. BMSCs were cultured in osteogenic medium containing 80 ng/mL IGF-1 for 3 weeks. Alkaline phosphatase activity, calcification level, osteogenic factor (runt related protein 2 [RUNX2], osteocalcin [OCN], osterix [OSX]), total (t-) ERK1/2 and phosphorylated- (p-) ERK1/2 levels, and SRY-related high-mobility-group box 4 (SOX4) levels were assessed by alkaline phosphatase staining and Alizarin Red staining, Western blot, and reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction. The mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (MAPK/ERK) pathway inhibitor (PD98059) was used to inhibit the MAPK/ERK pathway in IGF-1-treated BMSCs. Small interfering-SOX4 was transfected into BMSCs to down-regulate SOX4. IGF-1 increased alkaline phosphatase activity, cell calcification, and osteogenic factor (RUNX2, OCN, OSX) levels in BMSCs, indicating that IGF-1 induced rat BMSC OD. SOX4, and p-ERK1/2 and t-ERK1/2 levels were elevated in IGF-1-induced BMSCs, which were annulled by PD98059. PD98059 partly averted IGF-1-induced rat BMSC OD. SOX4 levels, alkaline phosphatase activity, cell calcification, and osteogenic factor (RUNX2, OCN, OSX) levels were reduced after SOX4 down-regulation, showing that downregulation of SOX4 averted the effect of IGF-1 on inducing rat BMSC OD. IGF-1 induced rat BMSC OD by stimulating SOX4 via the MAPK/ERK pathway.

Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) patients with dual positivity for proteinase 3-ANCA (PR3-ANCA) and myeloperoxidase-ANCA (MPO-ANCA) are uncommon. We aimed to investigate these idiopathic double-positive AAV patients' clinical features, histological characteristics, and prognosis. We reviewed all the electronic medical records of patients diagnosed with AAV to obtain clinical data and renal histological information from January 2010 to December 2020 in a large center in China. Patients were assigned to the MPO-AAV group or PR3-AAV group or idiopathic double-positive AAV group by ANCA specificity. We explored features of idiopathic double-positive AAV. Of the 340 patients who fulfilled the study inclusion criteria, 159 (46.76%) were female, with a mean age of 58.41 years at the time of AAV diagnosis. Similar to MPO-AAV, idiopathic double-positive AAV patients were older and had more severe anemia, lower Birmingham Vasculitis Activity Score (BVAS) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, less ear, nose, and throat (ENT) involvement, higher initial serum creatinine and a lower estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) when compared with PR3-AAV (P < 0.05). The proportion of normal glomeruli of idiopathic double-positive AAV was the lowest among the three groups (P < 0.05). The idiopathic double-positive AAV patients had the worst remission rate (58.8%) among the three groups (P < 0.05). The relapse rate of double-positive AAV (40.0%) was comparable with PR3-AAV (44.8%) (P > 0.05). Although there was a trend toward a higher relapse rate of idiopathic double-positive AAV (40.0%) compared with MPO-AAV (23.5%), this did not reach statistical significance (P > 0.05). The proportion of patients who progressed to ESRD was 47.1% and 44.4% in the idiopathic double-positive AAV group and MPO-AAV group respectively, without statistical significance. Long-term patient survival also varied among the three groups (P < 0.05). Idiopathic double-positive AAV is a rare clinical entity with hybrid features of MPO-AAV and PR3-AAV. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is a technique that directly injects a single sperm into the cytoplasm of mature oocytes. Here, we explored the safety of single-sperm cryopreservation applied in ICSI. This retrospective study enrolled 186 couples undergoing ICSI-assisted pregnancy. Subjects were allocated to the fresh sperm (group A)/single-sperm cryopreservation (group B) groups based on sperm type, with their clinical baseline/pathological data documented. We used ICSI-compliant sperm for subsequent in vitro fertilization and followed up on all subjects. The recovery rate/cryosurvival rate/sperm motility of both groups, the pregnancy/outcome of women receiving embryo transfer, and the delivery mode/neonatal-related information of women with successful deliveries were recorded. The clinical pregnancy rate, cumulative clinical pregnancy rate, abortion rate, ectopic pregnancy rate, premature delivery rate, live birth delivery rate, neonatal birth defect rate, and average birth weight were analyzed. The two groups showed no significant differences in age, body mass index, ovulation induction regimen, sex hormone [anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH)/follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)/luteinizing hormone (LH)] levels, or oocyte retrieval cycles. The sperm recovery rate (51.72%-100.00%) and resuscitation rate (62.09% ± 16.67%) in group B were higher; the sperm motility in the two groups demonstrated no significant difference and met the ICSI requirements. Group B exhibited an increased fertilization rate, decreased abortion rate, and increased safety versus group A. Compared with fresh sperm, the application of single-sperm cryopreservation in ICSI sensibly improved the fertilization rate and reduced the abortion rate, showing higher safety.

The high prevalence and complex etiology of renal diseases already impose a heavy disease burden on patients and society. In certain kidney diseases such as acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease, current treatments are limited to slowing rather than stabilizing or reversing disease progression. Therefore, it is crucial to study the pathological mechanisms of kidney disease and discover new therapeutic targets and effective therapeutic drugs. As cell-free therapeutic strategies are continually being developed, extracellular vesicles derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSC-EVs) have emerged as a hot topic for research in the field of renal diseases. Studies have demonstrated that MSC-EVs not only reproduce the therapeutic effects of MSCs but also localize to damaged kidney tissue. Compared to MSCs, MSC-EVs have several advantages, including ease of preservation, low immunogenicity, an inability to directly form tumors, and ease of artificial modification. Exploring the detailed mechanisms of MSC-EVs by developing standardized culture, isolation, purification, and drug delivery strategies will help facilitate their clinical application in kidney diseases. The electromagnetic force used in electromagnetic forming is mainly divided into attraction and repulsion. Dual-coil attractive electromagnetic forming can be used in the field of sheet pit repair. However, the magnetic field and eddy current generated by the two coils compete with each other, and the energy utilization rate is low. Therefore, a compensation coil is introduced, and an electromagnetic forming scheme of a three-coil dual-power sheet based on mixed force is proposed and verified by simulation. It is found that the three-coil mixed force can effectively improve the competition between the magnetic field and eddy current. The loading of the mixing force is not a simple superposition of attraction and repulsion, but the mutual promotion of the two. The forming displacement of the three-coil mixed force forming scheme is 582% higher than that of the dual-coil attraction forming scheme, and 89% higher than that of the attract first and then repel forming scheme. The forming effect of the three-coil mixing force is related to the number of turns of the compensation coil. Ambient fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is a threat to public health. The P2 X 7purinergic receptor (P2X7R) is a modulator that responds to inflammation. Yet the role of P2X7R in the mediation of PM2.5-induced pulmonary cytotoxicity is rarely investigated. In this study, the expression of P2X7R and its effect on cell viability, oxidative damage, apoptosis, mitochondrial dysfunction and underlying mechanism following PM2.5 treatment in rat alveolar macrophages (NR8383) were analyzed. The outcome indicated that PM2.5 exposure significantly increased the expression of P2X7R, while P2X7R antagonist oATP markedly alleviate the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), Nitrite Oxidation (NO), mitochondrial membrane potential, apoptosis rate, and release of inflammatory cytokines. In contrast, P2X7 agonist BzATP showed opposite effect in PM2.5-treated NR8383 cells. Therefore, these results demonstrated that P2X7R participated in PM2.5-induced pulmonary toxicity, while the blockade of P2X7R is a promising therapeutic approach of treating PM2.5-induced lung diseases.

Background: The advantages of laparoscopic left-sided hepatectomy (LLH) for treating hepatolithiasis in terms of the time to postoperative length of hospital stay (LOS), morbidity, long-term abdominal wall hernias, hospital costs, residual stone rate, and recurrence of calculus have not been confirmed by a randomized controlled trial. The aim of this trial is to compare the safety and effectiveness of LLH with open left-sided hepatectomy (OLH) for the treatment of hepatolithiasis., Methods: Patients with hepatolithiasis eligible for left-sided hepatectomy will be recruited. The experimental design will produce two randomized arms (laparoscopic and open hepatectomy) at a 1:1 ratio and a prospective registry. All patients will undergo surgery in the setting of an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) programme. The prospective registry will be based on patients who cannot be randomized because of the explicit treatment preference of the patient or surgeon or because of ineligibility (not meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria) for randomization in this trial. The primary outcome is the LOS. The secondary outcomes are percentage readmission, morbidity, mortality, hospital costs, long-term incidence of incisional hernias, residual stone rate, and recurrence of calculus. It will be assumed that, in patients undergoing LLH, the length of hospital stay will be reduced by 1 day. A sample size of 86 patients in each randomization arm has been calculated as sufficient to detect a 1-day reduction in LOS [90% power and α = 0.05 (two-tailed)]. The trial is a randomized controlled trial that will provide evidence for the merits of laparoscopic surgery in patients undergoing liver resection within an ERAS programme., Conclusions: Although the outcomes of LLH have been proven to be comparable to those of OLH in retrospective studies, the use of LLH remains restricted, partly due to the lack of short- and long-term informative RCTs pertaining to patients with hepatolithiasis in ERAS programmes. Background: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) has high disability and mortality rate. Oxidative stress and ferroptosis are important pathophysiological characteristics after TBI. Orexin-A (OXA) can alleviate neuronal damage in diverse neurological disorders. Nevertheless, the role and mechanism of OXA in TBI stay unknown., Objectives: The research investigated protection influence of OXA on TBI and its potential mechanisms., Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly grouped into: sham, TBI, TBI + normal saline (NS) and TBI+OXA groups. TBI model was constructed in rat via modified Feeney's approach, and OXA treatment was administered following construction of TBI model., Results: Relative to TBI+NS group, TBI+OXA group displayed greatly recovered tissue damage and neurological deficits. Additionally, OXA eased oxidative stress as well as ferroptosis in cerebral cortex of rats following TBI. Furthermore, OXA increased Nrf2 expression and regulating factors HO-1 and NQO1 in cerebral cortex of TBI rats., Conclusions: Our research found OXA may restrain ferroptosis via Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway activation, thereby reducing brain injury after TBI.

Background and Aims: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) fibrosis is a reversible stage of liver disease accompanied by inflammatory cell infiltration. Neutrophils extrude a meshwork of chromatin fibers to establish neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), which play important roles in inflammatory response regulation. Our previous work demonstrated that NETs promote HCC in MASH. However, it is still unknown if NETs play a role in the molecular mechanisms of liver fibrosis., Approach and Results: Following 12 weeks of Western diet/carbon tetrachloride, MASH fibrosis was identified in C57BL/6 mice with increased NET formation. However, NET depletion using DNase I treatment or mice knocked out for peptidyl arginine deaminase type IV significantly attenuated the development of MASH fibrosis. NETs were demonstrated to induce HSCs activation, proliferation, and migration through augmented mitochondrial and aerobic glycolysis to provide additional bioenergetic and biosynthetic supplies. Metabolomic analysis revealed markedly an altered metabolic profile upon NET stimulation of HSCs that were dependent on arachidonic acid metabolism. Mechanistically, NET stimulation of toll-like receptor 3 induced cyclooxygenase-2 activation and prostaglandin E2 production with subsequent HSC activation and liver fibrosis. Inhibiting cyclooxygenase-2 with celecoxib reduced fibrosis in our MASH model., Conclusions: Our findings implicate NETs playing a critical role in the development of MASH hepatic fibrosis by inducing metabolic reprogramming of HSCs through the toll-like receptor 3/cyclooxygenase-2/cyclooxygenase-2 pathway. Background: Immunotherapy targeting PD-1/PD-L1 has revolutionized the treatment of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC). However, clinical trials suggest differential efficacy of anti-PD-1 agents and anti-PD-L1 agents in first-line treatment of ES-SCLC. This retrospective multicenter study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of anti-PD-1 agents versus anti-PD-L1 agents in first-line treatment of ES-SCLC in real-world practice., Methods: Patients with pathologically or cytologically confirmed ES-SCLC treated with platinum plus etoposide combined with anti-PD-1 or PD-L1 agents as first-line treatment in different centers of PLA General Hospital between January 2017 and October 2021 were included for this study. Survival outcomes and safety were compared between patients receiving anti-PD-1 and PD-L1 agents., Results: Of the total 154 included patients, 68 received anti-PD-1 agents plus chemotherapy (PD-1 group), and 86 received anti-PD-L1 agents plus chemotherapy (PD-L1 group). Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in the entire cohort were 7.6 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 6.5-8.2 months) and 17.4 months (95% CI: 15.3-19.3 months), respectively. Median PFS and OS were comparable between the PD-1 group and PD-L1 group (PFS: 7.6 months vs. 8.3 months, HR = 1.13, 95% CI: 0.79-1.62, p = 0.415; OS: 26.9 months vs. 25.6 months, HR = 0.96, 95% CI: 0.63-1.47, p = 0.859. The objective response rate and disease control rate were comparable between the two groups: 79.4% vs. 79.1% and 92.6% vs. 94.2%, respectively. The 6-month, 12-month, and 18-month PFS and OS rates were slightly higher in the PD-L1 group than in the PD-1 group, while the 24-month PFS rate was slightly higher in the PD-1 group than in the PD-L1 group. Stratified analysis showed that locoregional thoracic radiotherapy and normal lactate dehydrogenase level were independent predictors of better OS in ES-SCLC patients treated with first-line chemotherapy plus ICI. Adverse events were not significantly different between the two groups., Conclusions: Anti-PD-1 agents and anti-PD-L1 agents combined with chemotherapy as first-line treatment for ES-SCLC are comparably effective and well tolerated., (© 2024. The rational heterojunctions for antibiotics degradation have sparked significant attention in wastewater purification. In this study, we report a unique S-scheme photocatalytic system by in-situ growth of CuBi 2 O 4 quantum dots (QDs) onto {101} facet of TiO 2 spindles (TiO 2 -P) via hydrothermal transformation of Na-titanate nanotubes, which is observed by transmission electron microscopy technology. The CuBi 2 O 4 /TiO 2 -P effectively achieves photo-degradation of tetracycline (TC) using visible light (e.g. an 82% TC degradation efficiency at 60 min), which is attributed to the promotion of the charge separation and retaining strong redox capacity at the heterojunction interfaces via the active species of O 2 - , OH, and h + . Moreover, density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that a built-in electric field forms at the interface of the S-scheme heterojunction. Despite the recent achievements in urea electrosynthesis from co-reduction of nitrogen wastes (such as NO 3 - ) and CO 2 , the product selectivity remains fairly mediocre due to the competing nature of the two parallel reduction reactions. Here we report a catalyst design that affords high selectivity to urea by sequentially reducing NO 3 - and CO 2 at a dynamic catalytic centre, which not only alleviates the competition issue but also facilitates C-N coupling. We exemplify this strategy on a nitrogen-doped carbon catalyst, where a spontaneous switch between NO 3 - and CO 2 reduction paths is enabled by reversible hydrogenation on the nitrogen functional groups. A high urea yield rate of 596.1 µg mg -1 h -1 with a promising Faradaic efficiency of 62% is obtained. Background: Transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) has emerged as a potentially effective neuromodulation technique for addressing neurological disorders, including disorders of consciousness. Expanding upon our prior clinical study, which demonstrated the superior effectiveness of a 4-week taVNS treatment in patients with minimally conscious state (MCS) compared to those in a vegetative state/unresponsive wakefulness state, the aim of this investigation was to evaluate the safety and therapeutic efficacy of taVNS in individuals with MCS through a sham-controlled randomized double-blind clinical trial., Methods: A cohort of 50 adult patients (male = 33, female = 17) diagnosed with a MCS were randomly assigned to either the active taVNS ( N = 25) or sham taVNS ( N = 25) groups. The treatment period lasted for 4 weeks, followed by an 8-week follow-up period. The Coma Recovery Scale-Revised (CRS-R) and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) were administered at baseline and weekly during the initial 4 weeks. Additionally, the Disability Rating Scale (DRS) was used to assess the patients' functional abilities via telephone at week 12. Furthermore, various neurophysiological measures, including electroencephalogram (EEG), upper-limb somatosensory evoked potentials (USEP), brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP), and P300 event-related potentials (P300), were employed to monitor changes in brain activity and neural conduction pathways., Results: The scores for the active taVNS group in the CRS-R and GCS showed greater improvement over time compared to the sham taVNS group (CRS-R: 1-week, Z = -1.248, p = 0.212; 2-week, Z = -1.090, p = 0.276; 3-week, Z = -2.017, p = 0.044; 4-week, Z = -2.267, p = 0.023. GCS: 1-week, Z = -1.325, p = 0.185; 2-week, Z = -1.245, p = 0.213; 3-week, Z = -1.848, p = 0.065; 4-week, Z = -1.990, p = 0.047). Additionally, the EEG, USEP, BAEP, and P300 also demonstrated significant improvement in the active taVNS group compared to the sham taVNS group at week 4 (EEG, Z = -2.086, p = 0.037; USEP, Z = -2.014, p = 0.044; BAEP, Z = -2.298, p = 0.022; P300 amplitude, Z = -1.974, p = 0.049; P300 latency, t = 2.275, p = 0.027). Subgroup analysis revealed that patients with MCS derived greater benefits from receiving taVNS treatment earlier (CRS-R, Disease duration ≤ 1-month, mean difference = 8.50, 95% CI = [2.22, 14.78], p = 0.027; GCS, Disease duration ≤ 1-month, mean difference = 3.58, 95% CI = [0.14, 7.03], p = 0.044). By week 12, the active taVNS group exhibited lower Disability Rating Scale (DRS) scores compared to the sham taVNS group (Z = -2.105, p = 0.035), indicating a more favorable prognosis for MCS patients who underwent taVNS. Furthermore, no significant adverse events related to taVNS were observed during treatment., Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that taVNS may serve as a potentially effective and safe intervention for facilitating the restoration of consciousness in individuals diagnosed with MCS. There are a few studies that reported sex disparities in clinical features, pathological features and outcomes among ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) patients, but studies focusing on sex-specific differences of myeloperoxidase (MPO)-AAV patients are scarce. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze sex differences in clinicopathological features and outcomes of MPO-AAV. Patients diagnosed with MPO-AAV in Xiangya Hospital from January 2010 to June 2021 were included in the study and separated into female and male groups. The differences in clinical manifestations, laboratory parameters, pathological features and prognosis between the two groups were retrospectively analyzed. Three hundred and sixty-six patients were included and divided into female group (n = 176) and male group (n = 190). The age of the male group was 62.41 ± 10.49 years, significantly higher than that of the female group (58.69 ± 16.39, p = 0.011). Compared with the female group, the male group had a shorter duration of disease, higher levels of hemoglobin, eosinophil count, proteinuria, serum C4, and lower levels of serum globulin, serum IgG and serum IgM (p < 0.05). No significant differences in kidney pathological features were observed between the two groups. During a median follow-up of 37.6 months, there was no significant difference in renal survival and patient survival between the two groups, but male patients had a worse composite outcome of renal and patient survival compared with the female patients (p = 0.044). This study found that male patients with MPO-AAV had a higher age of onset, shorter duration of disease, higher levels of hemoglobin, eosinophil count, proteinuria, serum C4, and lower levels of serum globulin, serum IgG and serum IgM. The first organocatalytic atroposelective synthesis of axially chiral N , N '-pyrrolylindoles based on o -alkynylanilines was successfully established via de novo indole formation catalyzed by chiral phosphoric acid (CPA). This new synthetic strategy introduced CPA-catalyzed asymmetric 5- endo-dig cyclization of new well-designed o -alkynylanilines containing a pyrrolyl unit, resulting in a wide range of axially chiral N , N '-pyrrolylindoles in high yields with exclusive regioselectivity and excellent enantioselectivity (up to 99% yield, >20 : 1 rr, 95 : 5 er). Considering the potential biological significance of N-N atropisomers, preliminary biological activity studies were performed and revealed that these structurally important N , N '-pyrrolylindoles had a low IC 50 value with promising impressive cytotoxicity against several kinds of cancer cell lines. Background: The ovary is highly sensitive to radiation, and patients receiving radiotherapy are at significant risk of premature ovarian failure (POF). This study aimed to explore the radioprotective effect of honokiol (HKL) on ionizing radiation (IR)-induced POF., Methods: Female C57BL/6 mice were administered intraperitoneally with vehicle or HKL once daily for 7 days. On day 7, the mice in the IR and HKL+IR groups were exposed to 3.2 Gy whole-body radiation for one hour after the intraperitoneal injection and sacrificed 12 or 72 h after radiation exposure. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) was calculated. Blood samples were collected for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Ovaries were harvested for histological examination, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, TUNEL, western blot, and qPCR. The fertility assessment was evaluated by calculating live offspring number., Results: The optimum dose of HKL against radiation was 10 mg/kg via intraperitoneal injection. POF was induced 72 h after irradiation with significantly downregulated proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). The numbers of primordial and preantral follicles decreased significantly after irradiation (p < .001), whereas the number of atretic follicles increased (p < .001). The serum levels of estradiol (E 2 ) and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) decreased to 50% of the control group after irradiation (p < .05). Moreover, the GSI after irradiation was 27% lower than in the control group (p < .05). The number of offspring in the IR group dropped by 50% compared with the control group (p < .05). HKL pretreatment protected the animals' fertility, GSI, PCNA, serum levels of E 2 and AMH, and the number of primordial and preantral follicles. Significant upregulation of apoptosis-related proteins such as Pho-P53, Bax, Cyto C, C-caspase-3, C-PARP, and pyroptosis-related proteins such as Pho-NF-κB p65, NLRP3, caspase-1, IL-1β, and IL-18 was observed after irradiation, while the expression of Bcl-2 decreased. HKL pretreatment prevented these changes. After irradiation, malondialdehyde (MDA), Nrf2, and HO-1 were upregulated. HKL treatment activated the expression of Nrf2 and HO-1 and promoted the nucleus translocation of Nrf2. Purpose: The objective was to determine the effectiveness and safety of paclitaxel-coated balloon angioplasty in hemodialysis patients with diabetic nephropathy (DN)., Materials and Methods: The outcomes of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) and treated with drug-coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty were retrospectively evaluated. The effectiveness outcomes were clinical improvement of the Rutherford classification and target lesion revascularization (TLR). Safety outcomes were all-cause mortality and amputation., Results: Ninety-seven patients were treated with DCB angioplasty between December 2018 and December 2020. 87 (63.8±10.1 years) achieved technical success. Most patients had a Rutherford classification of at least grade 4. The mean lesion length was 169.8±73.8 mm, almost all had arterial calcification, and 31.0% had annular calcification. Wounds were present in 73.6% of the target limbs. The mean follow-up in this cohort was 13.4±7.4 months. The wound healing rate was 61.5% at the 12-month follow-up. All-cause mortality during 12 months of follow-up was 35.6%, amputation-free survival was 58.6%, and TLR was observed in 13 (15.3%) patients. At 3 and 12 months of follow-up, the Rutherford grade significantly improved (p<0.001). The Cox proportional hazards model revealed that wounds (hazard ratio [HR]=1.404, p=0.023) and annular calcification (HR=2.076, p=0.031) were independent predictors of amputation-free survival., Conclusions: Drug-coated balloon angioplasty in ESRD patients was effective and safe over the medium term. Wounds and annular calcification were independent predictors of amputation-free survival., Clinical Impact: The effectiveness of DCB angioplasty in ESRD patients and the factors affecting major outcome prognosis in this population remain limited. This study contributes valuable insights into the effectiveness and safety of paclitaxel-coated balloon angioplasty for PAD in hemodialysis patients. Medical professionals can now regard DCB angioplasty as a viable treatment. Identifying wound presence and annular calcification as predictors of amputation-free survival equips medical practitioners with a more tailored approach to patient management, potentially resulting in enhanced outcomes and more precise treatment strategies.

As an important energy conversion component in electromagnetic-forming technology, the coil is subjected to great internal stress and is easy to break. The geometric structure and winding process of the forming coil draw on the research results of pulsed magnets. However, the two use conditions are different. It is very important to clarify the force difference between the two for the design of the forming coil. In this paper, the numerical model of an aluminum alloy (AA1060-O) is established, and the difference in force between the pulse magnet and forming coil with the same size in time and space under different working conditions is analyzed. A two-dimensional fully coupled finite element model consisting of circuit, magnetic field, and solid mechanics is established and used to determine the key parts of the coil force. It is found that the von Mises stress of the forming coil is greater than that of the pulsed magnet under the same circuit parameters and geometric structure. In the electromagnetic forming of the tube, the glass fiber is subjected to a large stress. In addition, the stress of glass fiber under the condition of tube necking is about 2 times that of pulsed magnet. When the voltage is increased, the failure of the middle part of the glass fiber causes the coil to break. In the electromagnetic forming of the sheet, the coil skeleton is subjected to large stress, and its upper end failure causes the coil to break. Therefore, new design ideas for forming coils under different working conditions are proposed.

Neoadjuvant therapy and adjuvant therapy for locally advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with ALK  fusion mutation have not been thoroughly studied. Here, a stage IIIB NSCLC patient with EML4-ALK fusion mutation receiving immunotherapy plus chemotherapy as neoadjuvant treatment followed by lobectomy plus lymph node dissection is reported. The patient achieved a pathological complete response according to pathological evaluation. The patient received adjuvant crizotinib for 3 months and achieved a disease-free survival time of 36 months.

This study investigated the effect of different concentrations of ferulic acid (FA) on the quality of goat semen preserved at 17 °C. First, semen was collected from three black-headed goat bucks using an artificial vagina. Then, the mixed semen was diluted with basal dilutions containing different concentrations of FA (0, 25, 50, 100, and 200 μmol/L) and stored at 17 °C. Sperm total motility, plasma membrane integrity, acrosome integrity, reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, malondialdehyde (MDA) content, and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) were measured during semen storage. The results showed that sperm total motility, plasma membrane integrity, and acrosome integrity were significantly improved in the 50 μmol/L FA group compared with the control group (0 μmol/L) on days 1-5, and the level of T-AOC significantly increased, while the contents of ROS and MDA significantly reduced. Meanwhile, the goats' conception rate showed that supplementing semen with 50 μmol/L FA preserved at 17 °C for 3 days had no significant effect on fertility. Taken together, our findings suggest that adding 50 μmol/L FA in dilution at 17 °C can improve goat bucks' semen quality.

Glioblastoma is a malignant tumor with the highest morbidity and mortality in the central nervous system. Conventional surgical resection combined with radiotherapy or chemotherapy has a high recurrence rate and poor prognosis. The 5-year survival rate of patients is less than 10%. In tumor immunotherapy, CAR-T cell therapy represented by chimeric antigen receptor-modified T cells has achieved great success in hematological tumors. However, the application of CAR-T cells in solid tumors such as glioblastoma still faces many challenges. CAR-NK cells are another potential adoptive cell therapy strategy after CAR-T cells. Compared with CAR-T cell therapy, CAR-NK cells have similar anti-tumor effects. CAR-NK cells can also avoid some deficiencies in CAR-T cell therapy, a research hotspot in tumor immunity. Electrolyte environments, including cations, anions, and solvents are critical for the performance delivery of cathodes of batteries. Most works focused on interactions between cations and cathode materials, in contrast, there is a lack of in-depth research on the correlation between anions and cathodes. Here, we systematically investigated how anions manipulate the coulombic efficiency (CE) of cathodes of zinc batteries. We take intercalation-type V 2 O 5 and conversion-type I 2 cathodes as typical cases for profound studies. It was found that electronic properties of anions, including charge density and its distribution, can tune conversion or intercalation reactions, leading to significant CE differences. Using operando visual Raman microscopy and theoretical simulations, we confirm that competitive coordination between anions and I - can regulate CEs by modulating polyiodide diffusion rates in Zn-I 2 cells. In Zn-V 2 O 5 cells, anion-tuned solvation structures vastly affect CEs through varying Zn 2+ intercalation kinetics. Conversion I 2 cathode achieves a 99 % CE with highly electron-donating anions, while anions with preferable charge structures that interact strongly with Zn 2+ afford an intercalation V 2 O 5 a nearly 100 % CE. Understanding the mechanism of anion-governed CEs will help us evaluate compatibility of electrolytes with electrodes, thus providing a guideline for anion selection and electrolyte design for high-energy, long-cycling zinc batteries., (© 2023 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Understanding human skin photoaging requires in-depth knowledge of the molecular and functional mechanisms. Human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs) gradually lose their ability to produce collagen and renew intercellular matrix with aging. Therefore, our study aims to reveal the mechanistic actions of a novel ceRNA network in the skin photoaging by regulating HDF activities. Photoaging-related genes were obtained in silico, followed by GO and KEGG enrichment analyses. Differentially expressed lncRNAs and miRNAs were screened from the GEO database to construct the ceRNA co-expression network. In skin photoaging samples, PVT1 and AQP3 were poorly expressed, while miR-551b-3p was highly expressed. The relationships among the lncRNA, miRNA and mRNA were explored through the ENCORI database and dual luciferase reporter assay. Mechanistically, PVT1 could sequester miR-551b-3p to upregulate the expression of AQP3, which further inactivated the ERK/p38 MAPK signaling pathway. HDFs were selected to construct an in vitro cell skin photoaging model, where the senescence, cell cycle distribution and viability of young and senescent HDFs were detected by SA-β-gal staining, flow cytometry and CCK-8 assay. In vitro cell experiments confirmed that overexpression of PVT1 or AQP3 enhanced viability of young and senescent HDFs and inhibited HDF senescence, while miR-551b-3p upregulation counteracted the effect of PVT1. In conclusion, PVT1-driven suppression of miR-551b-3p induces AQP3 expression to inactivate the ERK/p38 MAPK signaling pathway, thereby inhibiting HDF senescence and ultimately delaying the skin photoaging., (© 2023. Lithium-air (Li-air) batteries stand out among the post-Li-ion batteries due to their high energy density, which has rapidly progressed in the past years. Regarding the fundamental mechanism of Li-air batteries that discharge products produced and decomposed during charging and recharging progress, the reversibility of products closely affects the battery performance. Along with the upsurge of the mainstream discharge products lithium peroxide, with devoted efforts to screening electrolytes, constructing high-efficiency cathodes, and optimizing anodes, much progress is made in the fundamental understanding and performance. However, the limited advancement is insufficient. In this case, the investigations of other discharge products, including lithium hydroxide, lithium superoxide, lithium oxide, and lithium carbonate, emerge and bring breakthroughs for the Li-air battery technologies. To deepen the understanding of the electrochemical reactions and conversions of discharge products in the battery, recent advances in the various discharge products, mainly focusing on the growth and decomposition mechanisms and the determining factors are systematically reviewed. Objective: To investigate the efficacy of median nerve stimulation (MNS) combined with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), MNS alone, and rTMS alone in elevating the level of consciousness in patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness (pDOC)., Participants and Methods: We enrolled 75 eligible inpatients suffering from pDOC as a result of traumatic or non-traumatic brain injury. Participants were randomly assigned to one of the following three treatment groups: (1) rTMS+sham-MNS; (2) MNS + sham-rTMS; or (3) MNS + rTMS. The rTMS protocol involved stimulation above the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex at a 10 Hz frequency and 90% resting motor threshold. The MNS protocol involved the delivery of a 15-20 mA current at the median nerve point 2 cm from the wrist crease of the right distal forearm. The primary outcome was the change from baseline of the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised (CRS-R) score after treatment. Secondary outcomes included post-treatment changes from baseline of the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score, awaken ratio, electroencephalography (EEG) scores, and the latency and amplitude of N20 on somatosensory evoked potentials., Results: Before the intervention, there were no significant differences between groups in the CRS-R, GCS scores, age, duration of pDOC, clinical diagnosis, EEG scores, latency and amplitude of N20, sex, job, marital status, education level, or disease etiology. Within the three groups, the total CRS-R, GCS scores and amplitude of N20 on both side significantly increased and latency of N20 on poor side significantly decreased post-intervention. Significantly greater improvement in CRS-R, GCS total scores, amplitude of N20 on both side and latency of N20 on the poor side were observed in the MNS + TMS group compared to those of the groups receiving rTMS alone or MNS alone. Introduction: Disorders of consciousness (DoCs) are a frequent complication of brain injury disease, and effective treatments are currently lacking. Transauricular vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) has been proposed as a promising therapeutic method for neurological disorders such as epilepsy and depression. In our previous study, we demonstrated that vagus nerve stimulation promoted recovery in rats with DoCs caused by traumatic brain injury. However, the clinical effect of vagus nerve stimulation on consciousness disorders is unclear. We aimed to investigate the therapeutic efficacy and safety of tVNS in patients with DoCs., Methods: We conducted a randomized, double-blinded, sham-controlled trial. Patients (N = 60) with DoCs, including minimally conscious state (MCS) and vegetative state/unresponsive wakefulness syndrome, were enrolled and randomized to groups receiving either active or sham tVNS. A frequency of 20 Hz and pulse wave of 200 us was used in the active-tVNS protocol, which was performed in the auricular branch of the vagus nerve in the left outer ear. The sham-tVNS protocol was the same as the active-tVNS protocol although without current input. Both groups of patients also received conventional treatments. Consciousness was evaluated according to the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised before and after the 4-week intervention. We also recorded the type and number of behavioral responses. Safety was primarily assessed according to the incidence of treatment-emergent adverse events. Each patient's heart rate and blood pressure were monitored during all treatment sessions., Results: Ultimately, 57 patients completed the study: 28 patients underwent active tVNS and 29 patients underwent sham tVNS. No significant differences were observed in Coma Recovery Scale-Revised scores between the active- and sham-tVNS groups before the tVNS sessions. Compared with patients in the sham-tVNS group (9.28 ± 4.38), patients with DoCs treated with active tVNS showed improved consciousness (10.93 ± 4.99), although not statistically significant. Further analysis revealed obvious differences between patients with MCS receiving active and sham tVNS, but no significant difference in patients with vegetative state/unresponsive wakefulness syndrome in both groups. Background: Mammalian folliculogenesis is the complex process through which primordial follicles develop into preovulatory follicles. The chief function of ovarian follicle granulosa cells is to play a vital role in the growth, development and atresia of ovarian follicles via gap junctions. Increasing evidence suggests that microRNAs (miRNAs) are essential regulators of granulosa cell apoptosis or proliferation., Methods: The expression level of miR-27a-3p, myogenic differentiation (MyoD), Vangl1 and Vangl2 was investigated by Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and Western blot. Luciferase reporter assay, bioinformatics analysis and ChIP-PCR was used to detect the binding sites between miR-27a-3p, transcription factor and target genes. KEGG pathway analyses were performed to reveal the predicted targets of miR-27a-3p. Ethynyl deoxyuridine (EdU) proliferation assay was used to measure cell proliferation., Results: To explore the underlying mechanisms of the miR-27a-3p function in the development of mouse granulosa cells (mGCs), we screened for the target genes of miR-27a-3p, confirmed its interaction with Vangl1 and Vangl2 and elucidated their roles in mGCs. MiR-27a-3p inhibited the proliferation of mGCs, whereas target genes Vangl1 and Vangl2 had the opposite effect. In addition, the transcription factor MYOD bound to and activated the promoter of miR-27a-3p. MiR-27a-3p suppressed Vangl1 and Vangl2 expression by targeting their 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR). Objective: This study aimed to establish and validate a prediction model for clinical outcomes in patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness (pDOC)., Methods: A total of 170 patients with pDOC enrolled in our rehabilitation unit were included and divided into training ( n = 119) and validation sets ( n = 51). Independent predictors for improved clinical outcomes were identified by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, and a nomogram model was established. The nomogram performance was quantified using receiver operating curve (ROC) and calibration curves in the training and validated sets. A decision curve analysis (DCA) was performed to evaluate the clinical usefulness of this nomogram model., Results: Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses indicated that age, diagnosis at entry, serum albumin (g/L), and pupillary reflex were the independent prognostic factors that were used to construct the nomogram. The area under the curve in the training and validation sets was 0.845 and 0.801, respectively. This nomogram model showed good calibration with good consistency between the actual and predicted probabilities of improved outcomes. Purpose: The nephrotoxicity caused by cisplatin severely limits the application and affects related platinum-based therapeutics. Neferine is a dibenzylisoquinoline alkaloid extracted from a Chinese medicinal herb (Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn), which can decrease cisplatin-induced apoptosis of NRK-52E cells by activating autophagy in vitro in our previous study. In this article, we aimed to further investigate the protective effect of neferine, against to the cispltain-induced kidney damage in mice., Methods: Six groups were designed in our study. Renal index, mice serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels were detected after the mice were killed. HE staining was used to observe the pathological changes of each group. The apoptosis of mouse kidney tissue was detected by TUNEL. Immunofluorescence and Western blot were used to detect the expression of cleaved-caspase3 and LC3. The transmission electron microscope was used to reveal the changes of apoptosis and autophagy of renal tubular epithelial cells in different groups., Results: In our findings, the pathological changes of acute kidney injury were easily observed in cisplatin-treated mice while those in the neferine-pretreated groups were significantly alleviated. The apoptosis induced by cisplatin in mice increased evidently compared with the control group, which was decreased in the mice with neferine pretreatment. What' more, we found that autophagy increased obviously in mice pretreated by neferine contrast to the cisplatin-treated mice., Conclusion: In our study, neferine can effectively alleviate cisplatin-induced renal injury in mice, as well act as an autophagy-regulator in kidney protection., (© 2022. Co-occurrence of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) and IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is extremely uncommon. To date, only a few case reports have described such patients. Here, we describe the clinical presentation, pathologic features, treatment response, and outcome data of five patients with the rare form of co-existing AAV and IgAN and compared the characteristics of these patients to AAV patients with pauci-immune glomerulonephritis (n = 10) and IgAN patients (n = 10) that were selected as controls by stratified random sampling. In addition, we summarize all the previously reported cases of AAV and IgAN. In total, including the current study, 16 AAV/IgAN overlap cases were reported. Our five patients with the coexistence of AAV and IgAN were younger than the ten AAV patients with pauci-immune glomerulonephritis (22.6 ± 8.2 years versus 48.9 ± 15.7 years, respectively, P = 0.004). Histologically, they had a significantly lower percentage of glomeruli with fibrous crescents compared with AAV patients (0.0% versus 4.0%, P = 0.038). Compared with ten IgAN patients, our five AAV/IgAN patients had higher levels of ESR (P = 0.032) and CRP (P = 0.031). After accepting treatment with a combination of steroid and immunosuppressants, all patients showed a positive response to therapy, except for one patient in our cohort and another previously reported patient. We described the clinical presentation, pathologic features, treatment response, and outcome data of five patients with overlapping AAV and IgAN. They had mild glomerular pathological lesions and a positive response to aggressive immunosuppressive therapy. They were quite similar to pauci-immune AAV patients in clinical features, except for younger age. They had a lower percentage of glomeruli with fibrous crescents compared with AAV patients. In contrast to IgAN patients, they had higher levels of ESR and CRP. The mechanism of the coexistence of IgAN and AAV needs further study., (© 2022. Radical prostatectomy has undergone a development from open to laparoscopic surgery to a surgical robotic approach. With improved surgical equipment and the continuous development of surgical techniques, various surgical strategies for controlling the dorsal vascular complex (DVC) during RP have been investigated, which affect intraoperative blood loss, postoperative tumour control and postoperative urinary and sexual function. The present narrative review summarizes the latest anatomical information about the prostatic apex and DVC and then describes the three types of DVC control. More detailed anatomy of the DVC is required and the optimal DVC control under different situations needs further research.

Background: Some VOCs are identified as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), interfering with the effect of sex hormones. However, no studies focused on the common spectrum of environmental VOCs exposure affecting sex hormones in the average male population., Objectives: We aimed to explore the association between VOCs and sex hormones in American adult males using multiple statistical models., Methods: The generalized linear (GLM), eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), weighted quantile sum (WQS), Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) and stratified models were used to evaluate the associations between Specific Volatile Organic Compounds and sex hormones in American adult male from NHANES 2013-2016., Results: Pearson correlation model revealed the potential co-exposure pattern among VOCs. XGBoost algorithm models and the WQS model suggested the relative importance of VOCs. BKMR models reveal that co-exposure to the VOCs was associated with increased Testosterone (TT), Estradiol (E 2 ), SHBG and decreased TT/E 2 . GLM models revealed specific VOC exposure as an independent risk factor causing male sex hormones disorders. Stratified analysis identified the high-risk group on the VOCs exposures. We found Blood 2,5-Dimethylfuran in VOCs was the most significant effect on sex hormones in male. Breast cancer metastasis can happen even when the primary tumor is relatively small. But the mechanism for such early metastasis is poorly understood. Herein, we report that neurotrophin 4 (NTF4) plays a dual role in breast cancer proliferation and metastasis. Clinical data showed high levels of NTF4, especially in the early stage, to be associated with poor clinical outcomes, supporting the notion that metastasis, rather than primary cancer, was the major determinant of breast cancer mortality for patients. NTF4 promoted epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), cell motility, and invasiveness of breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo . Interestingly, NTF4 inhibited cell proliferation while promoting cellular apoptosis in vitro and inhibited xenograft tumorigenicity in vivo . Mechanistically, NTF4 elicited its pro-metastatic effects by activating PRKDC/AKT and ANXA1/NF-κB pathways to stabilize SNAIL protein, therefore decreasing the level of E-cadherin. Conversely, NTF4 increased ANXA1 phosphorylation and sumoylation and the interaction with importin β, leading to nuclear import and retention of ANXA1, which in turn activates the caspase-3 apoptosis cascade. Our findings identified an unexpected dual role for NTF4 in breast cancer which contributes to early metastasis of the disease.
