This study investigated the combined effects of direct-current magnetic field (DC-MF, 9.5 mT) and tetrasodium-pyrophosphate (TSPP, 1-5 g/L) on emulsified gel properties of porcine myofibrillar protein (MP). Results showed that MP at DC-MF and 3 g/L TSPP had decreased spectrum intensity of UV and fluorescence compared to that without DC-MF, owing to the changes of MP tertiary structure caused by DC-MF, especially tryptophan and tyrosine. The emulsion treated with DC-MF behaved better emulsifying activity and stability than that without DC-MF under such condition. And emulsion had lower creaming index and better storage stability. Gels prepared by this MP emulsion had low porosity and stable structure, accompanying with smaller size and more uniform distribution of oil droplets. Microstructure images showed that gels were covered with microporous structure, which was conducive to the good WHC of the emulsified gels (97.12%). The gastric microbial community plays a fundamental role in gastric cancer (GC), and the two main anatomical subtypes of GC, non-cardia and cardia GC, are associated with different risk factors ( Helicobacter pylori for non-cardia GC). To decipher the different microbial spatial communities of GC, we performed a multicenter retrospective analysis to characterize the gastric microbiota in 223 GC patients, including H. pylori -positive or -negative patients, with tumors and paired adjacent normal tissues, using third-generation sequencing. In the independent validation cohort, both dental plaque and GC tumoral tissue samples were collected and sequenced. The prevalence of H. pylori and oral-associated bacteria was verified using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assays in GC tumoral tissues and matched nontumoral tissues. We found that the vertical distribution of the gastric microbiota, at the upper, middle, and lower third sites of GC, was likely an important factor causing microbial diversity in GC tumor tissues. The oral-associated microbiota cluster, which included Veillonella parvula , Streptococcus oralis , and Prevotella intermedia , was more abundant in the upper third of the GC. However, H. pylori was more abundant in the lower third of the GC and exhibited a significantly high degree of microbial correlation. The oral-associated microbiota module was co-exclusive with H. pylori in the lower third site of the GC tumoral tissue. Importantly, H. pylori -negative GC patients with oral-associated gastric microbiota showed worse overall survival, while the increase in microbial abundance in H. pylori -positive GC patients showed no difference in overall survival. The prevalence of V. parvula in both the dental plaque and GC tissue samples was concordant in the independent validation phase. We showed that the oral-associated species V. parvula and S. oralis were correlated with overall survival. Our study highlights the roles of the oral-associated microbiota in the upper third of the GC. In addition, oral-associated species may serve as noninvasive screening tools for the management of GC and an independent prognostic factor for H. pylori -negative GCs., Importance: Our study highlights the roles of the oral-associated microbiota in the upper third of gastric cancer (GC).We showed that the oral-associated species Veillonella parvula and Streptococcus oralis were correlated with overall survival. Blood flow restriction training (BFRT) is an effective, scientific and safe training method, but its effect on the overall quality of athletes remains unclear. The aim of this systematic review with meta-analysis was to clarify the effects of BFRT on the physical fitness among athletes. Based on the PRISMA guidelines, searches were performed in PubMed, Web of Science, SPORTDiscus, and SCOUPS, the Cochrane bias risk assessment tool was used to assess methodological quality, and RevMan 5.4 and STATA 15.0 software were used to analyze the data. A meta-analysis of 28 studies with a total sample size of 542 athletes aged 14-26 years and assessed as low risk for quality was performed. Our results revealed that the BFRT intervention had small to large improvements in the athletes' strength (ES = 0.74-1.03), power (ES = 0.46), speed (ES = 0.54), endurance (ES = 1.39-1.40), body composition (ES = 0.28-1.23), while there was no significant effect on body mass (p > 0.05). Subgroup analyses revealed that moderator variables (training duration, frequency, load, cuff pressure, and pressurization time) also had varying degrees of effect on athletes' physical fitness parameters. In conclusion, BFRT had a positive effect on the physical fitness parameters of the athletes, with significantly improved strength, power, speed, endurance and body composition, but not body mass parameters. When the training frequency ≥ 3 times/week, cuff pressure ≥ 160 mmHg, and pressurization time ≥ 10 min, the BFRT group was more favorable for the improvement of physical fitness parameters., (© 2024. As a representative of the new generation of high-energy explosives, TKX-50 has attracted widespread attention due to its remarkably low sensitivity toward shock. However, the reported decomposition barriers of TKX-50 (∼37 kcal mol -1 ) are comparable to those of commonly used explosives. The mechanism of its low shock sensitivity remains unclear. In this study, using an ab initio molecular dynamics method combined with a multiscale shock simulation technique and transition state calculations (at the B2PLYP-D3/Def2TZVP level), we discovered an unconventional reaction pathway of TKX-50 under shock, and its rate-controlling step is the dissociation of the hydroxyl radical (OH) from the anion ring after proton transfer, followed by ring rupture and the production of H 2 O and N 2 . The barrier for this OH dissociation reaction is as high as 51.9 kcal mol -1 . In contrast, under thermal stimuli, TKX-50 prefers to open rings directly after proton transfer without losing the OH. The corresponding barrier is 35.4 kcal mol -1 , which is in good agreement with previous studies. The reason for the unconventional reaction pathway of TKX-50 under shock may be the suppression of anion ring opening in thermal decomposition by steric hindrance upon shock compression. In addition, the dominant N 2 generation pathway under shock releases less energy than pyrolysis which further explains the low shock sensitivity of TKX-50. This study comprehensively elucidates the different reaction mechanisms of TKX-50 under thermal and shock conditions and proposes a crucial reaction pathway leading to its low shock sensitivity. These findings will contribute to the understanding and application of tetrazole anionic energetic salts.

Novel and covert fluorescence is quite desirable for fluorescent anticounterfeiting application. Here, Cs 2 InCl 5 ·H 2 O/Sb and Cs 2 NaInCl 6 /Sb with high photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of 99.61 and 99.9%, respectively, were achieved. Considering the excellent optical performances together with the high similarity of the two crystal structures, we tried to realize the crystal structure transition from Cs 2 InCl 5 ·H 2 O/Sb to Cs 2 NaInCl 6 /Sb by an ion-exchange method. It was well done by just adding the NaCl precursor with different concentrations in the Cs 2 InCl 5 ·H 2 O/Sb product. Interestingly, a gradual color change from yellow to orange, warm white, white, cool white, and blue was achieved in the process of crystal structure transition. The energy-transfer dynamic models of Cs 2 InCl 5 ·H 2 O/Sb, the white product, and Cs 2 NaInCl 6 /Sb were identified. The chemical reaction and UV fluorescence properties made it possible for application in chemical and fluorescent double-modal anticounterfeiting and highly decreased the possibility of being cracked and copied. Especially, when salt for daily cooking was used to replace NaCl, a similar phenomenon happened as that of the 99.9% NaCl precursor, which made it easy to be applicated. The combination of chemical and optical verifications provides two levels of security and unbreakable encryption. The results demonstrate that the transition from Cs 2 InCl 5 ·H 2 O/Sb to Cs 2 NaInCl 6 /Sb is highly promising in fluorescent anticounterfeiting application.

Background: Programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) inhibitors can induce various adverse reactions associated with immunity, of which cardiotoxicity is a serious complication. Limited research exists on the link between PD-1 inhibitor use and pericardial effusion (PE) occurrence and outcomes., Methods: We conducted a retrospective study at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University from 2017 to 2019, comparing cancer patients who developed PE within 2 years after PD-1 inhibitor therapy to those who did not. Our primary outcome was the all-cause mortality rate at one year. We applied the Kaplan-Meier method for survival analysis. Multivariate logistic regression was utilized to identify PE risk factors, adjusting for potential confounders., Results: A total of 91 patients were finally included, of whom 39 patients had PE. Compared to non-PE group, one-year all-cause mortality was nearly 5 times higher in PE group (64.10% vs. 13.46%, P < 0.001). Patients who developed PE within 2 years of taking PD-1 inhibitors were significantly associated with increased all-cause mortality compared with those who did not (HR: 6.26, 95%CI: 2.70-14.53, P < 0.001). Multivariable logistic regression showed that use of sintilimab (OR: 14.568, 95%CI: 3.431-61.857, P < 0.001), history of lung cancer (OR: 15.360, 95%CI: 3.276-72.017, P = 0.001), and history of hypocalcemia (OR: 7.076, 95%CI: 1.879-26.649, P = 0.004) were independent risk factors of PE development in patients received PD-1 inhibitors therapy., Conclusions: In cancer patients receiving PD-1 inhibitors, PE was associated with higher one-year mortality. Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The active ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), such as naringin (NG), Eucommiol, isopsoralen, icariin, Astragalus polysaccharides, and chondroitin sulfate, contained in Drynariae Rhizoma, Eucommiae Cortex, Psoralea corylifolia, Herba Epimedii, Astragalus radix and deer antler, are considered promising candidates for enhancing the healing of osteoporotic defects due to their outstanding bone homeostasis regulating properties. They are commonly used to activate bone repair scaffolds., Aim of the Review: Bone repair scaffolds are inadequate to meet the demands of osteoporotic defect healing due to the lack of regulation of bone homeostasis. Exosomal microRNAs (exomiRs) have been shown to play crucial roles as biomarkers for early detection and prognosis of cancer. However, simultaneous quantification of multiplex exomiRs is hindered by methods that require additional steps, such as labeling with fluorophores or gel visualization, which are susceptible to various factors. Herein, we developed a mass spectrometry-detectable and target-triggered method for multiplexed exomiR detection using three enzyme-based double recycling amplification in combination with well-designed molecular beacon-peptide (MBP) probes, called molecular beacon-peptide probe-based double recycling amplification (MBPDRA). MBP probes mediated the double recycling amplification reaction and were released as mass-detectable reporter peptides. In particular, the hybridization of the target microRNAs (miRNAs) with the stem-loop of the probe triggers two consecutive processes. The first cycle involved polymerase strand displacement amplification, leading to the production of complementary DNA (cycle I), and the second cycle encompassed the recycling exonuclease cleavage of the MBP probe (cycle II). Subsequently, excess probes were removed by interaction with streptavidin beads via biotin-streptavidin binding. The reporter peptides were released using trypsin and subsequently detected by mass spectrometry. Our method enables quantitative detection of multiple exomiRs with a dynamic range from 0.1 fM to 10 pM and a limit of quantification of 0.1 fM. Moreover, the proposed assay was successfully employed for quantification of three exomiRs, exmiR-21, exmiR-191, and exmiR-451a, in the sera of patients with pancreatic cancer. Based on these findings, we believe that the MBPDRA assay holds significant promise as a reliable method for quantifying multiple miRNAs in biomedical research and clinical diagnostics.

We proposed a new strategy for CO 2 hydrogenation to prepare light olefins by introducing Zn into GaZrO x to construct ZnGaZrO x ternary oxides, which was combined with SAPO-34 to prepare a high-performance ZnGaZrO x /SAPO-34 tandem catalyst for CO 2 hydrogenation to light olefins. By optimizing the Zn doping content, the ratio and mode of the two-phase composite, and the process conditions, the 3.5 %ZnGaZrO x /SAPO-34 tandem catalyst showed excellent catalytic performance and good high-temperature inhibition of the reverse water-gas shift (RWGS) reaction. The catalyst achieved 26.6 % CO 2 conversion, 82.1 % C 2 = -C 4 = selectivity and 11.8 % light olefins yield. The ZnGaZrO x formed by introducing an appropriate amount of Zn into GaZrO x significantly enhanced the spillover H 2 effect and also induced the generation of abundant oxygen vacancies to effectively promote the activation of CO 2 . Fine tuning of the metal site coordination environment of a single-atom catalyst (SAC) to boost its catalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is of significance but challenging. Herein, we report a new SAC bearing Fe-N 3 C-N sites with asymmetric in-plane coordinated Fe-N 3 C and axial coordinated N atom for ORR, which was obtained by pyrolysis of an iron isoporphyrin on polyvinylimidazole (PVI) coated carbon black. The C@PVI-(NCTPP)Fe-800 catalyst exhibited significantly improved ORR activity ( E 1/2 = 0.89 V vs RHE) than the counterpart SAC with Fe-N 4 -N sites in 0.1 M KOH. Significantly, the Zn-air batteries equipped with the C@PVI-(NCTPP)Fe-800 catalyst demonstrated an open-circuit voltage (OCV) of 1.45 V and a peak power density ( P max ) of 130 mW/cm 2 , outperforming the commercial Pt/C catalyst (OCV = 1.42 V; P max = 119 mW/cm 2 ). The density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the d-band center of the asymmetric Fe-N 3 C-N structure shifted upward, which enhances its electron-donating ability, favors O 2 adsorption, and supports O-O bond activation, thus leading to significantly promoted catalytic activity. This research presents an intriguing strategy for the designing of the active site architecture in metal SACs with a structure-function controlled approach, significantly enhancing their catalytic efficiency for the ORR and offering promising prospects in energy-conversion technologies.

Bioinspired by the active sites of multicopper oxidases (MCOs), bi/multinuclear copper complexes have attracted great attention in promoting catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Herein, we report the preparation of a Cu-N-C electrocatalyst Cu-BPOZ@CNB-400 for efficient ORR, which was obtained by low temperature pyrolysis of a dinuclear 2,5-bis(2-pyridyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (BPOZ) copper complex loaded on a N-doped carbon support at 400 °C. Cu-BPOZ@CNB-400 exhibited a half-wave potential ( E 1/2 ) of 0.86 V vs. RHE for the ORR in 0.1 M KOH solution, which was significantly higher than that of the Cu-BPOZ@CNB-800 ( E 1/2 = 0.83 V) catalyst treated under high temperature (at 800 °C) and the control catalyst Cu-Phen@CNB-400 ( E 1/2 = 0.82 V) derived from low-temperature-treatment (at 400 °C) of a mononuclear phenanthroline-coordinated-Cu complex loaded on a N-doped carbon support. When Cu-BPOZ@CNB-400 was applied as the cathode catalyst in zinc-air batteries a maximum power density ( P max ) of 127 mW cm -2 could be achieved, demonstrating comparable catalyst performance to the commercial 20 wt% Pt/C ( P max = 122 mW cm -2 ) and the control Cu-Phen@CNB-400 catalyst ( P max = 105 mW cm -2 ) under similar experimental conditions. Low-temperature pyrolysis of dinuclear copper complexes on a carbon support improved the charge transfer efficiency, inhibited metal aggregation, and could produce highly dispersed Cu-N-C catalysts with dinuclear copper sites for promoting the 4e - -reduction selectivity of the ORR. It thus provides a cost-effective approach for the controllable fabrication of efficient ORR catalysts to be applied for energy conversion devices.

The lake area is a crucial parameter that characterizes the state of a lake. Under the dual pressures of climate change and human activity, the magnitude and frequency of changes in lake areas become more pronounced. This process poses a serious threat to the local ecological environment. In this study, we constructed a lake water extraction model (LakeNet) based on a fully convolutional neural network. We extracted and analyzed the spatiotemporal characteristics of the area of nine major lakes from 1987 to 2022, as well as the driving factors behind these changes. Our results indicate that: 1) LakeNet exhibits high extraction accuracy and can remove some clouds. 2) The area of the nine major lakes shows a fluctuating downward trend (-8.11km 2 /10a), with drought and land use changes identified as significant driving forces behind the changes in lake boundaries, drought events caused the lake area to decrease, and the expansion of cropland further reduced the lake area. 3) Due to variations in lake area, the impact of drought on the area of the nine major lakes exhibits a lag effect, smaller lakes are likely to respond more quickly to drought., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier B.V. Germanium (Ge) is a dispersed metal primarily recovered from secondary Ge-containing resources. The traditional treatment method is hindered by incomplete impurity removal, resulting in a low grade of tannin germanium residue (TGR) and Ge concentrate, high production costs, and significant hazardous waste. This study proposes a new technology involving ultrasonic pre-purification of TGR to enhance the quality of Ge concentrate prepared by roasting. Under optimal conditions (ultrasonic power 225 W, liquid-solid ratio 7:1, H 2 SO 4 concentration 20 g/L, reaction time 30 min, and reaction temperature 40 °C), the removal efficiencies of impurities Zn, Mg, Fe, As, and S from purified tannin germanium residue (PTGR) increased by 4.2%, 4.2%, 17.4%, 8.7%, and 2.9% respectively. Moreover, the Ge content in PTGR increased from 2.9% to 4.1%. The mechanism of ultrasonic action indicated the ultrasonic energy reduced the particle size of the reactants from 67.698 μm to 31.768 μm, thereby accelerating impurity removal. Roasting ultrasonic-purified tannin germanium residue (U-PTGR) at 650 °C with 40 L/h air flow for 120 min produced Ge concentrate with a Ge grade of 33.26%, which is 6.11% higher than the regular method. Analysis using XRD and HRTEM, combined with crystallite size calculation, revealed that the Ge concentrate prepared by U-PTGR exhibited low sintering degree, good crystal properties, and high crystallinity. Implementing this technology could save enterprises approximately $57,412 annually in production costs. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the status of health-related quality of life in Chinese patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and to analyze factors associated with the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis international Society Health Index (ASAS-HI) in AS and its relationship with disease activity and psychological status., Methods: A cross-sectional study of 484 patients with AS attending 10 hospitals in China from March 2021 to September 2023 was recruited. The ASAS-HI assessed general health and functional status; the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-21) assessed psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, and stress; and the Functional Assessment of Chronic illness Therapy-Fatigue Scale (FACIT-F) assessed patients' fatigue symptoms; the Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Score-C-Reactive Protein (ASDAS-CRP), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI), Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI), and Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Measurement Index (BASMI) were used to assess patients' disease activity and functional impairment. The correlation between ASAS-HI and the ASDAS, poor psychological status, and fatigue symptoms was observed. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to explore the relevant influencing factors of ASAS-HI., Results: A total of 484 patients were included in this study of whom 162 were in poor health, 139 in moderate health, and 183 in good health. On univariate analysis, disease activity is an important factor affecting ASAS-HI. People with extremely high disease activity (ASDAS ≥ 3.5) had a 12 times elevated risk of having poor health status (OR = 12.53; P < 0.001). Other significant covariates included age ≥ 36 (OR = 1.58; P = 0.015), BMI ≥ 24 kg/m 2 (OR = 2.93; P = 0.013), smoke (OR = 1.96; P = 0.002), BASFI (OR = 1.49; P < 0.001), BASMI (OR = 1.22; P < 0.001), fatigue (OR = 6.28; P < 0.001), and bad psychological conditions such as depression (OR = 10.86; P < 0.001), anxiety (OR = 3.88; P < 0.001), and stress (OR = 4.65; P < 0.001). The use of bMARDs is inversely associated with the appearance of adverse health status (OR = 0.54; P = 0.012). There was no significant relationship between HLA-B27 and sex. Multivariable logistic regression showed that higher disease activity (ASDAS ≥ 3.5) (OR = 5.14; P = 0.005), higher scores of BASMI (OR = 1.10; P = 0.009), self-reported depression (OR = 3.68; P = 0.007), and fatigue (OR = 2.76; P < 0.001) were factors associated with adverse health status., Conclusion: The health status of AS patients is related to age, BMI, smoking, disease activity, poor psychological status, and fatigue and is influenced by a combination of multiple factors such as emotional state, economic level, pain, and dysfunction. Therefore, clinicians should pay attention to the early assessment of ASAS-HI in order to improve the prognosis of the disease. Background: Oncomelania hupensis is the exclusive intermediate host of Schistosoma japonicum in China. Snail control is an essential component of schistosomiasis elimination programme. With 70 years of continuous efforts, the range of O. hupensis had reduced significantly, but slowed down in last decades. A large number of levees against flooding were constructed along Yangtze River and its affiliated lakes in the middle and lower reaches, which influenced the hydrology and ecology in the alluvial plains. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of levees on the distribution of O. hupensis in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River., Methods: The snail habitats were digitalised by hand-held GPS system. The years for discovery and elimination of snail habitats were extracted from historical records. The accumulated snail-infested range for each habitat was calculated on the basis of annual reports. The current distribution of O. hupensis was determined by systematic and environmental sampling. The geographical distribution of levees was obtained from satellite imagery. To assess the impact of levees, the data pertaining to O. hupensis were divided into two parts: inside and outside the Yangtze River. Joinpoint regression was utilised to divide the study time span and further characterise the regression in each period. The 5-year-period moving averages of eliminated area infested by snails were calculated for the habitats inside and outside Yangtze River. The moving routes of corresponding geographical median centres were simulated in ArcGIS. Hotspot analysis was used to determine the areas with statistical significance clustering of O. hupensis density., Results: Three periods were identified according to Joinpoint regression both inside and outside Yangtze River. The area infested by O. hupensis increased in the first two periods. It decreased rapidly outside Yangtze River year over year after 1970, while that inside the Yangtze River did not change significantly. Furthermore, the latter was significantly higher than the former. It was observed that the present density of O. hupensis inside Yangtze River was lower than outside the Yangtze River. The median centre for eliminated ranges inside Yangtze River wavered between the east (lower reach) and the west (middle reach). In contrast, the median centre for eliminated ranges continuously moved from the east to the west., Conclusions: Our findings indicated that the levees had a considerable negative impact on the distribution of O. hupensis outside Yangtze River. Some hotspots observed in the irrigation areas need a sluice system at the inlet of branch for snail control. The major distribution of O. hupensis located in Hubei might be caused by severe waterlogging. The intensive surveillance should be implemented there. The biggest two freshwater lakes, the major endemic regions historically, were identified as cold spots. Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the protective effects of dexmedetomidine (DEX) on renal injury caused by acute stress in rats and explore the protective pathways of DEX on rat kidneys in terms of oxidative stress., Methods: An acute restraint stress model was utilized, where rats were restrained for 3 hours after a 15-minute swim. Biochemical tests and histopathological sections were conducted to evaluate renal function, along with the measurement of oxidative stress and related pathway proteins., Key Findings: The open-field experiments validated the successful establishment of the acute stress model. Acute stress-induced renal injury led to increased NADPH oxidase 4 (NOX4) protein expression and decreased expression levels of nuclear transcription factor 2 (Nrf2), heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), and NAD(P)H: quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1). Following DEX treatment, there was a significant reduction in renal NOX4 expression. The DEX-treated group exhibited normalized renal biochemical results and less damage observed in pathological sections compared to the acute stress group., Conclusions: The findings suggest that DEX treatment during acute stress can impact the NOX4/Nrf2/HO-1/NQO1 signaling pathway and inhibit oxidative stress, thereby preventing acute stress-induced kidney injury. Noncovalent spatial interaction has become an intriguing and important tool for constructing optoelectronic molecules. In this study, we linearly attached three conjugated units in a multi π-stacked manner by using just one trident bridge based on indeno[2,1-b]fluorene. To achieve this structure, we improved the synthetic approach through double C-H activation, significantly simplifying the preparation process. Due to the proximity of the C10, C11, and C12 sites in indeno[2,1-b]fluorene, we derived two novel donor|acceptor|donor (D|A|D) type molecules, 2DMB and 2DMFB, which exhibited closely packed intramolecular stacking, enabling efficient through-space charge transfer. This molecular construction is particularly suitable for developing high-performance thermally activated delayed fluorescence materials. With donor(s) and acceptor(s) constrained and separated within this spatially rigid structure, elevated radiative transition rates, and high photoluminescence quantum yields were achieved. Miscible gas flooding is an important approach for enhancing the recovery of unconventional oil reservoirs. The injected gas and crude oil components has a significant impact on the minimum miscible pressure. In order to clarify the miscibility characteristics and factors influencing the minimum miscibility pressure, combining PVT and slim tube experiments, the minimum miscibility pressure between Tuha low viscosity oil and different injected gas was measured. Additionally, chromatography experiments were conducted to study the composition changes of produced oil. The results indicate that when the injection pressure is higher than the minimum miscible pressure, the extraction effect of injected gas on heavy fraction (C16+) in crude oil is enhanced and the extraction effect on light alkanes (C1-C6) is reduced. The increase in the content of light alkanes (C1-C6) and middle distillates (C7-C15) in crude oil reduces the minimum miscibility pressure between crude oil and injected gas. Pipeline gas can effectively extract heavy fraction from crude oil, but its breakthrough time is early. Under the same pressure, earlier breakthrough time of injected gas makes it more difficult for the crude oil and injected gas to miscible. Through the analysis of experimental results, the following main conclusions are drawn: Immiscible flooding causes heavy fraction (C16+) in crude oil to remain, which might affect the physical properties of the reservoir, increasing the difficulty of subsequent development. Activation of pregnane X receptor (PXR) by xenobiotics has been associated with metabolic diseases. This study aimed to reveal the impact of PXR activation on hepatic metabolome and explore novel mechanisms underlying PXR-mediated lipid metabolism disorder in the liver. Wild-type and PXR-deficient male C57BL/6 mice were used as in vivo models, and hepatic steatosis was induced by pregnenolone-16α-carbonitrile, a typical rodent PXR agonist. Metabolomic analysis of liver tissues showed that PXR activation led to significant changes in metabolites involved in multiple metabolic pathways previously reported, including lipid metabolism, energy homeostasis, and amino acid metabolism. Moreover, the level of hepatic all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), the main active metabolite of vitamin A, was significantly increased by PXR activation, and genes involved in ATRA metabolism exhibited differential expression following PXR activation or deficiency. Consistent with previous research, the expression of downstream target genes of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) was decreased. Analysis of fatty acids by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer further revealed changes in polyunsaturated fatty acid metabolism upon PXR activation, suggesting inhibition of PPARα activity. Motivation: Accurately detecting pathogenic microorganisms requires effective primers and probe designs. Literature-derived primers are a valuable resource as they have been tested and proven effective in previous research. However, manually mining primers from published texts is time-consuming and limited in species scop., Results: To address these challenges, we have developed MiPRIME, a real-time Microbial Primer Mining platform for primer/probe sequences extraction of pathogenic microorganisms with three highlights: (i) comprehensive integration. Covering >40 million articles and 548 942 organisms, the platform enables high-frequency microbial gene discovery from a global perspective, facilitating user-defined primer design and advancing microbial research. (ii) Using a BioBERT-based text mining model with 98.02% accuracy, greatly reducing information processing time. (iii) Using a primer ranking score, PRscore, for intelligent recommendation of species-specific primers. Introduction: N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation produces a marked effect on cardiovascular diseases. The m6A demethylase AlkB homolog 5 (ALKBH5), as an m6A "eraser", is responsible for decreased m6A modification. However, its role in cardiac fibroblasts during the post-myocardial infarction (MI) healing process remains elusive., Objectives: To investigate the effect of ALKBH5 in cardiac fibroblasts during infarct repair., Methods: MI was mimicked by permanent left anterior descending artery ligation in global ALKBH5-knockout, ALKBH5-knockin, and fibroblast-specific ALKBH5-knockout mice to study the function of ALKBH5 during post-MI collagen repair. Methylated RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing was performed to explore potential ALKBH5 targets., Results: Dramatic alterations in ALKBH5 expression were observed during the early stages post-MI and in hypoxic fibroblasts. Global ALKBH5 knockin reduced infarct size and ameliorated cardiac function after MI. The global and fibroblast-specific ALKBH5-knockout mice both exhibited low survival rates along with poor collagen repair, impaired cardiac function, and cardiac rupture. Both in vivo and in vitro ALKBH5 loss resulted in impaired fibroblast activation and decreased collagen deposition. Additionally, hypoxia, but not TGF-β1 or Ang II, upregulated ALKBH5 expression in myofibroblasts by HIF-1α-dependent transcriptional regulation. Mechanistically, ALKBH5 promoted the stability of ErbB4 mRNA and the degradation of ST14 mRNA via m6A demethylation. Fibroblast-specific ErbB4 overexpression ameliorated the impaired fibroblast-to-myofibroblast transformation and poor post-MI repair due to ALKBH5 knockout., Conclusion: Fibroblast ALKBH5 positively regulates post-MI healing by stabilization of ErbB4 mRNA in an m6A-dependent manner. L-Cysteine and L-methionine, as the only two sulfur-containing amino acids among the canonical 20 amino acids, possess distinct characteristics and find wide-ranging industrial applications. The use of different organisms for fermentative production of L-cysteine and L-methionine is gaining increasing attention, with Escherichia coli being extensively studied as the preferred strain. This preference is due to its ability to grow rapidly in cost-effective media, its robustness for industrial processes, the well-characterized metabolism, and the availability of molecular tools for genetic engineering. This review focuses on the genetic and molecular mechanisms involved in the production of these sulfur-containing amino acids in E. coli. Additionally, we systematically summarize the metabolic engineering strategies employed to enhance their production, including the identification of new targets, modulation of metabolic fluxes, modification of transport systems, dynamic regulation strategies, and optimization of fermentation conditions. Tissue engineered heart valves (TEHVs) demonstrates the potential for tissue growth and remodel, offering particular benefit for pediatric patients. A significant challenge in designing functional TEHV lies in replicating the anisotropic mechanical properties of native valve leaflets. To establish a biomimetic TEHV model, we employed melt-electrowriting (MEW) technology to fabricate an anisotropic PCL scaffold. By integrating the anisotropic MEW-PCL scaffold with bioactive hydrogels (GelMA/ChsMA), we successfully crafted an elastic scaffold with tunable mechanical properties closely mirroring the structure and mechanical characteristics of natural heart valves. This scaffold not only supports the growth of valvular interstitial cells (VICs) within a 3D culture but also fosters the remodeling of extracellular matrix of VICs. The in vitro experiments demonstrated that the introduction of ChsMA improved the hemocompatibility and endothelialization of TEHV scaffold. The in vivo experiments revealed that, compared to their non-hydrogel counterparts, the PCL-GelMA/ChsMA scaffold, when implanted into SD rats, significantly suppressed immune reactions and calcification. In comparison with the PCL scaffold, the PCL-GelMA/ChsMA scaffold exhibited higher bioactivity and superior biocompatibility. Coccinella transversoguttata is an important predatory beetle in Asia and America. Currently, few studies have investigated C. transversoguttata in China especially in the Tibetan plateau. In this study, full-length 16 s rRNA sequencing and qPCR experiment were performed on eight C. transversoguttata populations collected from Tibet to analyze their bacterial communities and bacteria abundance. In summary, our results revealed the microbial compositions, diversities and bacterial titers in the bacterial communities in C. transversoguttata populations in the Tibetan plateau. In future, there is a need to explore the differences in microbiota among various C. transversoguttata populations collected from different locations. The therapeutic potential of autologous stem cell transplantation for heart repair diminishes in the elderly due to stem cell aging. Rejuvenating aged stem cells to enhance their protective effects on injured cardiomyocytes is crucial for aging patients with heart failure. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether neuron-derived neurotrophic factor (NDNF) over-expression improves the protective effect of aged stem cells for injured cardiomyocytes and explore the underlying mechanism. Human bone marrow was collected from both young and old patients, and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) were cultured. Lentivirus expression vectors carrying NDNF genes were used to transfect aged BMSCs. Fatal hypoxia-induced injury in H9C2 cells served as an in vitro ischemia model. The conditioned medium from different BMSC groups was applied to assess the beneficial effects on hypoxia-induced damage in myocardial H9C2 cells. Results revealed that the conditioned medium of NDNF over-expressed old BMSCs increased H9C2 cell viability and reduced oxidative stress and apoptosis levels under fatal hypoxia. NDNF over-expressed old BMSCs exhibited an antiapoptotic role by upregulating the antiapoptotic gene Bcl-2 and downregulating the proapoptotic genes Bax . Additionally, the protective effects were mediated through the elevation of phosphorylated AKT. Our data support the promise of NDNF as a potential target to enhance the protective effects of autologous aged BMSCs on ischemic cardiomyocytes and then improve the curative effects of stem cell for ischemic heart injury in aged patients.

Background and Objectives: In ultrasound guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) surgery, it is necessary to transmit sound waves at different frequencies simultaneously using two transducers: one for the HIFU therapy and another for the ultrasound imaging guidance. In this specific setting, real-time monitoring of non-invasive surgery is challenging due to severe contamination of the ultrasound guiding images by strong acoustic interference from the HIFU sonication., Methods: This paper proposed the use of a deep learning (DL) solution, specifically a diffusion implicit model, to suppress the HIFU interference. We considered the images contaminated with HIFU interference as low-resolution images, and those free from interference as high-resolution. While suppressing HIFU interference using the diffusion implicit (HIFU-Diff) model, the task was transformed into generating a high-resolution image through a series of forward diffusion steps and reverse sampling. A series of ex-vivo and in-vivo experiments, conducted under various parameters, were designed to validate the performance of the proposed network., Results: Quantitative evaluation and statistical analysis demonstrated that the HIFU-Diff network achieved superior performance in reconstructing interference-free images under a variety of ex-vivo and in-vivo conditions, compared to the most commonly used notch filtering and the recent 1D FUS-Net deep learning network. The HIFU-Diff maintains high performance with 'unseen' datasets from separate experiments, and its superiority is more pronounced under strong HIFU interferences and in complex in-vivo situations. Furthermore, the reconstructed interference-free images can also be used for quantitative attenuation imaging, indicating that the network preserves acoustic characteristics of the ultrasound images., Conclusions: With the proposed technique, HIFU therapy and the ultrasound imaging can be conducted simultaneously, allowing for real-time monitoring of the treatment process. This capability could significantly enhance the safety and efficacy of the non-invasive treatment across various clinical applications. Rhizosphere iron plaques derived from Fe-based nanomaterials (NMs) are a promising tool for sustainable agriculture. However, the requirement for flooded conditions to generate iron plaque limits the scope of the NM application. In this study, we achieved in situ Fenton oxidation of a highly chlorinated persistent organic pollutant (2,2',4,5,5'-pentachlorobiphenyl, PCB101) through iron plaque mediated by the interaction between α-Fe 2 O 3 NMs and plant-rhizobacteria symbionts under dryland conditions. Mechanistically, the coexistence of α-Fe 2 O 3 NMs and Pseudomonas chlororaphis JD37 stimulated alfalfa roots to secrete acidic and reductive agents as well as H 2 O 2 , which together mediated the rhizosphere Fenton reaction and converted α-Fe 2 O 3 NMs into iron plaque rich in Fe(II)-silicate. Further verifications reproduced the Fenton reaction in vitro using α-Fe 2 O 3 NMs and rhizosphere compounds, confirming the critical role of •OH in the oxidative degradation of PCB101. Significant reductions in PCB101 content by 18.6%, 42.9%, and 23.2% were respectively found in stem, leaf, and soil after a 120-d treatment, proving the effectiveness of this NMs-plant-rhizobacteria technique for simultaneously safe crop production and soil remediation. These findings can help expand the potential applications of nanobio interaction and its mediated iron plaque generation for both agricultural practice and soil remediation.

In the leaching process of secondary zinc oxide, there is a problem of germanium loss caused by the colloidal adsorption of germanium by iron hydroxide (Fe(OH) 3 ) formed by Fe 3+ hydrolysis. In response to this, this article elucidates the hydrolysis conditions of Fe 3+ and the adsorption mechanism of the Fe(OH) 3 colloid on germanium through theoretical analysis and simulation of the adsorption process. The coexistence of Fe 3+ and H 2 GeO 3 requires high acidity conditions (pH < 1.53 at 25 °C). The adsorption of germanium by the Fe(OH) 3 colloid is a spontaneous exothermic entropy reduction process, which conforms to a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and includes three stages: fast, slow, and equilibrium. In addition, the adsorption process can be fitted by the Langmuir isotherm adsorption model, mainly consisting of monolayer and chemical adsorption. The Fe(OH) 3 colloid has a great adsorption capacity for germanium at 328 K, and the equilibrium adsorption capacity is 261.15 mg/g in 40 min. During leaching, the adsorption of germanium by Fe(OH) 3 colloids can be inhibited by increasing the reaction temperature, controlling the pH value of the solution system, and suppressing the formation of Fe 3+ at the source. This study provides direction for how to suppress the adsorption of germanium by Fe(OH) 3 colloids during the leaching process of secondary zinc oxide, which is of great significance for improving the germanium leaching efficiency and fully utilizing limited germanium resources.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of heat-moisture treatment (HMT)-modified highland barley (HB) on interactions between gluten and starch granules in dough. The results demonstrated that HB addition increased the water absorption, weakened the extensibility, increased the storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G″), decreased tan δ (G"/G') of dough. The textural and stress relaxation results showed that HB increased the hardness and elastic modulus (E 2 ) of the dough, requiring more stress to compress the dough. Also, the increase in sulfhydryl and surface hydrophobicity all confirmed the addition of HB induced the deterioration of gluten network structure. Furthermore, HMT-HB improved farinograph quality number of flour, decreased tan δ of dough compared with HB. The E 2 , coefficient of viscosity (η) and hardness increased, while the relaxation time (τ) decreased with increasing HMT strength of HB, suggesting the formation of a tighter dough structure. The secondary structure and microstructure analyses revealed that the HMT could reduce the damage of HB to dough quality. These results indicated that HMT had the potential to enhance the interaction between starch and protein, leading to a denser dough matrix. Background: Evidence on the association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] and infections among patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), a group susceptible to vitamin D deficiency and infections, is limited., Objectives: We aimed to examine this association in individuals with T2D, and to evaluate whether genetic variants in vitamin D receptor (VDR) would modify this association., Methods: This study included 19,851 participants with T2D from United Kingdom Biobank. Infections were identified by linkage to hospital inpatient and death registers. Negative binomial regression models were used to estimate incidence rate ratios (IRRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), with adjustment of potential confounders., Results: In patients with T2D, the incidence rate of infections was 29.3/1000 person-y. Compared with those with 25(OH)D of 50.0-74.9 nmol/L, the multivariable-adjusted IRRs and 95% CIs of total infections, pneumonia, gastrointestinal infections, and sepsis were 1.44 (1.31, 1.59), 1.49 (1.27, 1.75), 1.47 (1.22, 1.78), and 1.41 (1.14, 1.73), respectively, in patients with 25(OH)D <25.0 nmol/L. Nonlinear inverse associations between 25(OH)D concentrations and the risks of total infections (P-overall < 0.001; P-nonlinear = 0.002) and gastrointestinal infections (P-overall < 0.001; P-nonlinear = 0.040) were observed, with a threshold effect at ∼50.0 nmol/L. The vitamin D-infection association was not modified by genetic variants in VDR (all P-interaction > 0.050)., Conclusions: In patients with T2D, lower serum 25(OH)D concentration (<50 nmol/L) was associated with higher risks of infections, regardless of genetic variants in VDR. Notably, nonlinear inverse associations between 25(OH)D concentrations and the risks of infections were found, with a threshold effect at ∼50.0 nmol/L. Background: Anti-PD-1 therapy and chemotherapy is a recommended first-line treatment for recurrent or metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma, but the role of PD-1 blockade remains unknown in patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. We assessed the addition of sintilimab, a PD-1 inhibitor, to standard chemoradiotherapy in this patient population., Methods: This multicentre, open-label, parallel-group, randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial was conducted at nine hospitals in China. Adults aged 18-65 years with newly diagnosed high-risk non-metastatic stage III-IVa locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (excluding T3-4N0 and T3N1) were eligible. Patients were randomly assigned (1:1) using blocks of four to receive gemcitabine and cisplatin induction chemotherapy followed by concurrent cisplatin radiotherapy (standard therapy group) or standard therapy with 200 mg sintilimab intravenously once every 3 weeks for 12 cycles (comprising three induction, three concurrent, and six adjuvant cycles to radiotherapy; sintilimab group). The primary endpoint was event-free survival from randomisation to disease recurrence (locoregional or distant) or death from any cause in the intention-to-treat population. Secondary endpoints included adverse events. This trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT03700476) and is now completed; follow-up is ongoing., Findings: Between Dec 21, 2018, and March 31, 2020, 425 patients were enrolled and randomly assigned to the sintilimab (n=210) or standard therapy groups (n=215). At median follow-up of 41·9 months (IQR 38·0-44·8; 389 alive at primary data cutoff [Feb 28, 2023] and 366 [94%] had at least 36 months of follow-up), event-free survival was higher in the sintilimab group compared with the standard therapy group (36-month rates 86% [95% CI 81-90] vs 76% [70-81]; stratified hazard ratio 0·59 [0·38-0·92]; p=0·019). Grade 3-4 adverse events occurred in 155 (74%) in the sintilimab group versus 140 (65%) in the standard therapy group, with the most common being stomatitis (68 [33%] vs 64 [30%]), leukopenia (54 [26%] vs 48 [22%]), and neutropenia (50 [24%] vs 46 [21%]). Two (1%) patients died in the sintilimab group (both considered to be immune-related) and one (<1%) in the standard therapy group. Grade 3-4 immune-related adverse events occurred in 20 (10%) patients in the sintilimab group., Interpretation: Addition of sintilimab to chemoradiotherapy improved event-free survival, albeit with higher but manageable adverse events. Objective: The primary objective of this study is to explore the significance of concurrent evaluation of HER2 gene amplification and p53 and Ki67 expression in gastric cancer tissues., Methods: Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) methodologies were used to detect HER2 gene amplification, as well as the expression levels of HER2, p53, and Ki67 proteins, across a group of 78 gastric cancer cases., Results: The expression rate of the HER2 protein was determined to be 43.6% (34/78), with 17.9% (14/78) categorized as HER2 protein 3 + , 14.1% (11/78) as HER2 protein 2 + , and 11.5% (9/78) as HER2 protein 1 + . Using FISH technology, the HER2 gene amplification rate was identified as 19.2% (15/78), including 3 cases of HER2 gene cluster amplification, 5 cases of large granular amplification, 4 cases of punctate amplification, and 3 cases of high polysomy. The positive rate of p53 in gastric cancer cells was 52.6% (41/78), with 62.8% (49/78) of patients exhibiting a ki67 proliferation index ≤ 30, and 37.2% (29/78) accounting for a ki67 proliferation index > 30. The expression rates of the HER2 gene, p53, and ki67 in gastric cancer tissues were significantly associated with both gastric cancer staging and lymph node metastasis (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: The HER2 gene amplification rate and gene copy number exhibit a positive correlation with the expression rates of p53 and ki67. Combining these assessments can provide crucial insights into the assessment of metastatic potential, disease progression, and prognosis of gastric tumor cells. Recent studies have shown that the 5-HT1a receptor (5-HT1aR) in the central 5-HT (Serotonergic) system is involved in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia through its various receptors, and the dysfunction of the ventral hippocampus may be a key causative factor in schizophrenia. To date, whether the 5-HT1a receptor is involved in ventral hippocampal dysfunction and its internal mechanism remain unclear. In this study, schizophrenia-like animal model was induced by intraperitoneal injection of aspartate receptor antagonist MK-801 in male Sprague Dawley rats, and the role of 5-HT1aR in this animal model was investigated by bilaterally micro-infusing the 5-HT1aR antagonist WAY100635 into the ventral subiculum (vSub) of the hippocampus of rats. Behavioral experiments such as open field test (OFT) and prepulse inhibition (PPI) were performed. The results showed that MK-801 induced hyperactivity and impaired prepulse inhibition in rats, whereas, micro-infusion of 5-HT1aR antagonist WAY100635 into the vSub ameliorated these phenomena. Immunofluorescence analysis revealed that WAY100635 significantly increased the c-Fos expression in vSub. Western blot and immunohistochemical analysis showed that MK-801 induced up-regulation of 5-HT1aR and phospho-extracellular regulated protein kinase (p-ERK) pathway, while micro-infusion of the WAY100635 down-regulated 5-HT1aR and p-ERK in the vSub. Therefore, the results of the present study suggested that in vSub, the 5-HT1aR antagonist WAY100635 may attenuate MK-801-induced schizophrenia-like activity by modulating excitatory neurons and downregulating p-ERK., (Copyright © 2024 IBRO. Background: Mobile phone addiction (MPA) greatly affects the biological clock and sleep quality and is emerging as a behavioral disorder. The saliva microbiota has been linked to circadian rhythms, and our previous research revealed dysrhythmic saliva metabolites in MPA subjects with sleep disorders (MPASD). In addition, acupuncture had positive effects. However, the dysbiotic saliva microbiota in MPASD patients and the restorative effects of acupuncture are unclear., Objectives: To probe the circadian dysrhythmic characteristics of the saliva microbiota and acupunctural restoration in MPASD patients., Methods: MPASD patients and healthy volunteers were recruited by the Mobile Phone Addiction Tendency Scale (MPATS) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Saliva samples were collected every 4 h for 72 h. After saliva sampling, six MPDSD subjects (group M) were acupuncturally treated (group T), and subsequent saliva sampling was conducted posttreatment. Finally, all the samples were subjected to 16S rRNA gene sequencing and bioinformatic analysis., Results: Significantly increased MPATS and PSQI scores were observed in MPDSD patients (p< 0.01), but these scores decreased (p<0.001) after acupuncture intervention. Compared with those in healthy controls, the diversity and structure of the saliva microbiota in MPASD patients were markedly disrupted. Six genera with circadian rhythms were detected in all groups, including Sulfurovum , Peptostreptococcus , Porphyromonas and Prevotella . In this study, a novel carbon fiber brush (CFB) electrode was designed using carbon fiber filaments and conductive metals. It was used as the cathode to construct an efficient coupled electro-Fenton and electrocoagulation (EF-EC) process for tetracycline (TC) treatment. An optimal 97.9% removal rate of 10 mg L -1  TC was achieved within 20 min. The coupled process is less pH-dependent and more effective in treating TC compared to the traditional individual electro-Fenton (EF) or electrocoagulation (EC) process, achieving efficient TC removal under neutral pH conditions. The removal rate of 10 mg L -1  TC consistently remained above 92% at 20 min after ten cycle experiments using the same electrodes in a Fe-CFB system (92.7-97.9%), indicating excellent reusability and stability of the CFB cathode. Mechanism analysis showed both EF and EC processes were involved in the system. Radicals (such as •OH and SO 4 - •) generated by EF contributed to the degradation of TC, yielding nine intermediates. Coagulants (such as Fe(OH) 3 ) generated by EC contributed to the removal of TC. Toxicity prediction results indicated that over half of the nine intermediates exhibited lower biotoxicity compared to TC. During industrial and laboratory processes involving material grinding, the grinding media endure prolonged high-collision and friction environments, resulting in substantial wear. Consequently, this study adopts the hot-pressing sintering technique in powder metallurgy to prepare SiC-reinforced Fe-based wear-resistant composite grinding media, aiming to increase wear performance. For this purpose, Fe with 10 wt% SiC powders were milled for the fabrication of the composite. Then, sintering was performed by hot press at 1100 °C in a furnace. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction were employed to investigate the microstructures and phase of SiC-reinforced Fe-based matrix composite. Subsequently, comparative performance evaluations of the newly developed grinding media and traditional chromium-based media were conducted in terms of wear rate and grinding efficiency. The wear resistance tests revealed that the SiC-reinforced composite media displayed significantly superior wear resistance across various abrasives compared to the chromium-containing alternatives. Specifically, the composite media achieved a wear rate reduction of 2.9 times against standard sand over 1 h, and 2.3 and 2.4 times against sandstone and iron slag, respectively. Moreover, extended grinding for 3 hours further enhanced these reductions to 3.1, 2.4, and 2.7 times, respectively. Additionally, efficiency assessments indicated that at a 1:1 material ratio, the composite media outperformed the chromium-containing media in grinding efficiency by 7.5%, 12.5%, and 10.3% for standard sand, sandstone, and iron slag, respectively. Further increasing the material ratio to 3:1 resulted in efficiency improvements of 7.4%, 17.5%, and 11.3%, correspondingly.

Background: Many studies have investigated the transfer of skills between laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgery (RAS). These studies have considered time, error, and clinical outcomes in the assessment of skill transfer. However, little is known about the specific operations of the surgeon. Clutch control use is an important skill in RAS. Therefore, the present study aimed to propose a novel objective algorithm based on computer vision that can automatically evaluate a surgeon's clutch use. Additionally, the study aimed to evaluate the correlation between clutch metrics and surgical skill on different surgical robot platforms., Methods: The robotic surgery training center of Wuhan University trained 30 laparoscopic surgeons as the study group between 2023 and 2024. Laparoscopic surgeons were trained by combining robotic simulator exercises and RAS animal experiments. During the training, video and hand movement data were collected. Hand movements identified by a skin-color model were combined with labeling information to classify clutch use. The metrics were validated on different robotic platforms (dv-Trainer, EDGE MP1000, Toumai™ MT1000, and DaVinci Xi system) and among surgeons with different surgical skill levels., Results: On the robotic simulator, clutch accuracy in the expert group was significantly higher than in the study group for all tasks. No significant differences were observed in the number of clutches between the expert and study groups. In the RAS experiment, the number of clutches decreased significantly for both study and expert groups. The accuracy was maintained at a high level in the expert group but decreased rapidly in the study group., Conclusions: We proposed a new objective assessment of surgical skills, clutch use metrics, in cross-platform RAS. Objective: Accurate nidus segmentation and quantification have long been challenging but important tasks in the clinical management of Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation (CAVM). However, there are still dilemmas in nidus segmentation, such as difficulty defining the demarcation of the nidus, observer-dependent variation and time consumption. The aim of this study isto develop an artificial intelligence model to automatically segment the nidus on Time-Of-Flight Magnetic Resonance Angiography (TOF-MRA) images., Methods: A total of 92patients with CAVM who underwent both TOF-MRA and DSA examinations were enrolled. Two neurosurgeonsmanually segmented the nidusonTOF-MRA images,which were regarded as theground-truth reference. AU-Net-basedAImodelwascreatedfor automatic nidus detectionand segmentationonTOF-MRA images., Results: The meannidus volumes of the AI segmentationmodeland the ground truthwere 5.427 ± 4.996 and 4.824 ± 4.567 mL,respectively. The meandifference in the nidus volume between the two groups was0.603 ± 1.514 mL,which wasnot statisticallysignificant (P = 0.693). The DSC,precision and recallofthe testset were 0.754 ± 0.074, 0.713 ± 0.102 and 0.816 ± 0.098, respectively. The linear correlation coefficient of the nidus volume betweenthesetwo groupswas 0.988, p < 0.001., Conclusion: The performance of the AI segmentationmodel is moderate consistent with that of manual segmentation. The water evaporation rate of 3D solar evaporator heavily relies on the water transport height of the evaporator. In this work, a 3D solar evaporator featuring a soil capillary-like structure is designed by surface coating native balsa wood using potassium hydroxide activated carbon (KAC). This KAC-coated wood evaporator can transport water up to 32 cm, surpassing that of native wood by ≈8 times. Moreover, under 1 kW m -2 solar radiation without wind, the KAC-coated wood evaporator exhibits a remarkable water evaporation rate of 25.3 kg m -2  h -1 , ranking among the highest compared with other reported evaporators. The exceptional water transport capabilities of the KAC-coated wood should be attributed to the black and hydrophilic KAC film, which creates a porous network resembling a soil capillary structure to facilitate efficient water transport. In the porous network of coated KAC film, the small internal pores play a pivotal role in achieving rapid capillary condensation, while the larger interstitial channels store condensed water, further promoting water transport up more and micropore capillary condensation. Moreover, this innovative design demonstrates efficacy in retarding phenol from wastewater through absorption onto the coated KAC film, thus presenting a new avenue for high-efficiency clean water production., (© 2024 The Author(s). Background: Patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) often experience a poor prognosis due to cardiac damage induced by anthracycline chemotherapy, with left ventricular diastolic dysfunction manifesting early. Vector Flow Mapping (VFM) is a novel technology, and its effectiveness in detecting left ventricular diastolic dysfunction following anthracycline chemotherapy remains unverified., Objects: This study evaluates left ventricular diastolic function in DLBCL patients after anthracycline chemotherapy using vector flow mapping (VFM)., Materials and Methods: We prospectively enrolled 54 DLBCL patients who had undergone anthracycline chemotherapy (receiving a minimum of 4 cycles) as the case group and 54 age- and sex-matched individuals as controls. VFM assessments were conducted in the case group pre-chemotherapy (T0), post-4 chemotherapy cycles (T4), and in the control group. Measurements included basal, middle, and apical segment energy loss (ELb, ELm, ELa) and intraventricular pressure differences (IVPDb, IVPDm, IVPDa) across four diastolic phases: isovolumic relaxation (D1), rapid filling (D2), slow filling (D3), and atrial contraction (D4)., Results: When comparing parameters between the control and case groups at T0, no significant differences were observed in general data, conventional ultrasound parameters, and VFM parameters (all P > 0.05). From T0 to T4, ELa significantly increased throughout the diastole cycle (all P < 0.05); ELm increased only during D4 (all P < 0.05); and ELb increased during D1, D2, and D4 (all P < 0.05). All IVPD measurements (IVPDa, IVPDm, IVPDb) increased during D1 and D4 (all P < 0.05) but decreased during D2 and D3 (all P < 0.05). Significant positive correlations were identified between ELa-D4, IVPDa-D4, and parameters A, e', E/e,' and LAVI (all r > 0.5, all P < 0.001). Emerging evidence underscores the importance of CD8 + T cells in the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis (MS), but the precise mechanisms remain ambiguous. This study intends to elucidate the involvement of a novel subset of follicular CD8 + T cells (CD8 + CXCR5 + T) in MS and an experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) murine model. The expansion of CD8 + CXCR5 + T cells was observed in both MS patients and EAE mice during the acute phase. In relapsing MS patients, higher frequencies of circulating CD8 + CXCR5 + T cells were positively correlated with new gadolinium-enhancement lesions in the central nervous system (CNS). In EAE mice, frequencies of CD8 + CXCR5 + T cells were also positively correlated with clinical scores. These cells were found to infiltrate into ectopic lymphoid-like structures in the spinal cords during the peak of the disease. Furthermore, CD8 + CXCR5 + T cells, exhibiting high expression levels of ICOS, CD40L, IL-21, and IL-6, were shown to facilitate B cell activation and differentiation through a synergistic interaction between CD40L and IL-21. Transferring CD8 + CXCR5 + T cells into naïve mice confirmed their ability to enhance the production of anti-MOG 35-55 antibodies and contribute to the disease progression. The adsorption of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), such as perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), is currently a critical issue in the environmental domain, yet it is not fully understood. Diamane, as a stable monolayer adsorbent, has garnered significant research interest. Defects and strain are reported to play a crucial role in regulating its electronic structure. In this study, we employ density functional theory (DFT) calculations to investigate the adsorption of PFOS on both pristine and nitrogen-vacancy (N-V) defected diamane, respectively. Additionally, we systematically examine the effects of strain in diamane along both the a- and b-directions (two directions of a monolayer) on PFOS adsorption. This analysis involves studying the adsorption energy (E ads ), electron transfer, and the partial density of states. Finally, we propose the synergistic effects of N-V defects and compression strain in diamane, which enhance PFOS adsorption. The Asian water tower (AWT) serves as the source of 10 major Asian river systems and supports the lives of ~2 billion people. Obtaining reliable precipitation data over the AWT is a prerequisite for understanding the water cycle within this pivotal region. Here, we quantitatively reveal that the "observed" precipitation over the AWT is considerably underestimated in view of observational evidence from three water cycle components, namely, evapotranspiration, runoff, and accumulated snow. We found that three paradoxes appear if the so-called observed precipitation is corrected, namely, actual evapotranspiration exceeding precipitation, unrealistically high runoff coefficients, and accumulated snow water equivalent exceeding contemporaneous precipitation. We then explain the cause of precipitation underestimation from instrumental error caused by wind-induced gauge undercatch and the representativeness error caused by sparse-uneven gauge density and the complexity of local surface conditions. To explore the role of YAP, a key effector of the Hippo pathway, in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis. The temporal and spatial expression of YAP was detected via immunohistochemistry and multiplex immunohistochemistry on postoperative Days 1, 4, 7, 9, 11, 14 and 28 in a sheep model. Isolated mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from samples of the Day 14. The relative mRNA expression of YAP was examined before and after the osteogenic induction of MSCs. A YAP-silenced MSC model was constructed, and the effect of YAP knockdown on MSC function was examined. YAP is expressed in the nucleus of the key sites that determine the ankylosis formation, indicating that YAP is activated in a physiological state. The expression of YAP increased gradually over time. Moreover, the number of cells coexpressing of RUNX2 and YAP-with the osteogenic active zone labelled by RUNX2-tended to increase after Day 9. After the osteogenic induction of MSCs, the expression of YAP increased. After silencing YAP, the osteogenic, proliferative and migratory abilities of the MSCs were inhibited. YAP is involved in the early development of TMJ bony ankylosis. Inhibition of YAP using shRNA might be a promising way to prevent or treat TMJ ankylosis., (© 2024. The Author(s).)

At present, there are still limitations in immunology teaching such as single teaching methods and insufficient scientific research training for students. Department of Immunology has implemented practice and exploration of "scientific research back-feeding teaching" in medical immunology course. By incorporating scientific research into teaching activities, the team has carried out teaching practice through scientific research platforms, enriched teaching content with scientific research progress, conducted scientific research activities to stimulate students' interest, which not only increase students' inner drive, improves teaching efficiency, and leads to a "win-win" situation of teaching and scientific research, but also contributes to training medical innovative talents who can shoulder the heavy responsibility of the country.
