The ultrahigh flexibility and elasticity achieved in freestanding single-crystalline ferroelectric oxide membranes have attracted much attention recently. However, for antiferroelectric oxides, the flexibility limit and fundamental mechanism in their freestanding membranes are still not explored clearly. Here, we successfully fabricate freestanding single-crystalline PbZrO 3 membranes by a water-soluble sacrificial layer technique. They exhibit good antiferroelectricity and have a commensurate/incommensurate modulated microstructure. Moreover, they also have good shape recoverability when bending with a small radius of curvature (about 2.4 μm for the thickness of 120 nm), corresponding to a bending strain of 2.5%. They could tolerate a maximum bending strain as large as 3.5%, far beyond their bulk counterpart. Our atomistic simulations reveal that this remarkable flexibility originates from the antiferroelectric-ferroelectric phase transition with the aid of polarization rotation. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented health crisis that has affected in vitro fertilization practices globally. Previous studies have shown that SARS-CoV-2 impacts the quality of embryos by inducing an immunological response in infertile patients. In this study, the early embryonic development of SARS-CoV-2-infected infertile patients was investigated., Methods: Sixty-five SARS-CoV-2 infected infertile patients and 258 controls were involved in this study. The major outcome parameters for the cycle were analyzed, including the number of oocytes, maturation oocytes, available embryos per cycle, and embryo morpho kinetic characteristics., Results: From SARS-CoV-2 infection until oocyte retrieval, it took an average of 6.63 days. The results revealed that the number of oocytes and high-quality embryos on day 3 dramatically reduced in SARS-CoV-2-infected infertile patients. SARS-CoV-2 was detected in the follicular fluid of three infertile patients. SARS-CoV-2 infection had negatively impacted the number of oocytes in multivariate linear regression models. The early embryonic development in the SARS-CoV-2 infection group had a noticeable delay from the six-cell stage to blastocyst stage., Conclusions: SARS-CoV-2 infection reduced the number of oocytes and high-quality embryos on day 3. Flexible quantum spin electronic devices based on ferromagnetic insulators have attracted wide attention due to their outstanding advantages of low-power dissipation and noncontact sensing. However, ferromagnetic insulators, such as monocrystalline yttrium iron garnet (Y 3 Fe 5 O 12 , YIG), hve weak stress effects with a small magnetostrictive coefficient (λ 110 , 10 ppm), making it difficult to achieve a large magnetic tunable amplitude. In this paper, large-scale (with a diameter of 40 mm), flexible Pt/YIG heterojunctions were obtained by double-cavity magnetron sputtering technology, indicating typical soft magnetism and good bending fatigue characteristics. Here, the 3 nm thickness of the Pt layer triggers an obvious magnetic proximity effect, in which the in-plane ferromagnetic resonance field is decreased by 70 Oe compared to flexible Cu/YIG heterojunctions. Meanwhile, it shows a wide tunable amplitude of 110 Oe under the flexible bending stresses, which is induced by the sensitive interface effect of Pt (3 nm)/YIG heterojunctions. The saturation magnetization of Pt/YIG heterojunctions is negatively correlated with Pt thickness rather than the relative stability of Cu/YIG heterojunctions, depending on the magnetic proximity effect. It brings greater application possibilities for flexible stress-sensitive magnetic oxides in spin logic electronic devices.

Male infertility has emerged as a global issue, partly attributed to psychological stress. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the adverse effects of psychological stress on male reproductive function remain elusive. We created a psychologically stressed model using terrified-sound and profiled the testes from stressed and control rats using single-cell RNA sequencing. Comparative and comprehensive transcriptome analyses of 11,744 testicular cells depicted the cellular landscape of spermatogenesis and revealed significant molecular alterations of spermatogenesis suffering from psychological stress. At the cellular level, stressed rats exhibited delayed spermatogenesis at the spermatogonia and pachytene phases, resulting in reduced sperm production. Additionally, psychological stress rewired cellular interactions among germ cells, negatively impacting reproductive development. Molecularly, we observed the down-regulation of anti-oxidation-related genes and up-regulation of genes promoting reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation in the stress group. These alterations led to elevated ROS levels in testes, affecting the expression of key regulators such as ATF2 and STAR, which caused reproductive damage through apoptosis or inhibition of testosterone synthesis. Overall, our study aimed to uncover the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which psychological stress disrupts spermatogenesis, offering insights into the mechanisms of psychological stress-induced male infertility in other species and promises in potential therapeutic targets., Competing Interests: The authors declare no competing interests., (© 2024 The Author(s).)

Statement of Problem: A less invasive and more convenient workflow is needed for dynamic navigation-guided implant surgery for the edentulous arch., Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the accuracy of a novel dynamic navigation device developed for the completely edentulous mandible., Material and Methods: Two temporary 1-piece mini-implants were placed in the anterior region of a completely edentulous mandibular model for fixation of the navigation device. A total of 40 implants were inserted in 10 completely edentulous mandibular models with the aid of the dynamic navigation device. The accuracy of placement was determined by overlapping the preoperative plan with the postoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. The difference in the accuracy at different implant positions was compared by MANOVA and Bonferroni-corrected ANOVAs. The difference in accuracy between implants #1-20 and #21-40 was assessed for learning progression., Results: The deviation of the implants (mean ±standard deviation) was 1.14 ±0.50 mm at the entry point and 1.29 ±0.48 mm at the apex. The mean ±standard deviation angular deviation was 3.02 ±1.32 degrees. No significant difference was seen between the planned and the placed deviation among the 4 implant positions. After repeated placement with this dynamic approach, implant accuracy at the entry (P=.001) and apex (P=.017) improved significantly., Conclusions: The navigation device achieved acceptable implant placement accuracy in the edentulous mandible. Deviations between the planned and placed locations were not affected by different implant positions. Electrical treeing is one of the main causes of crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) cable failure. The current methods for locating electrical trees are mainly based on the partial discharge (PD) signal. However, PD signals are easily attenuated in the long cable and the PD test voltage may cause damage to the insulation. This work proposes an improved broadband impedance spectrum (BIS) method to locate electrical trees in XLPE cable. A mathematical model of a long cable containing local electrical tree degradation is established. The Gaussian signal is chosen as the simulated incident signal to reduce the spectral leakage. The location spectrum is obtained by multiplying the frequency domain function of the single-ended reflection coefficient and the Gaussian pulse. It has been found that the location spectrum of the local capacitance change can be characterized as a typical double-peak waveform and the spectrum of the local conductance change can be regarded as a typical single-peak waveform. Electrical tree experiments at different temperatures were carried out to initiate different types of electrical trees. A vector network analyzer (VNA) was used to test the high frequency capacitance characteristics in the treeing process. The location spectra of the 20 m long cable containing different types of electrical trees was calculated by the improved location algorithm. The results show that the location error of local electrical tree degradation is less than 3%. The capacitance of the sliced sample decreases with treeing time. The effect of the bush-pine tree on capacitance parameters is greater than that of the branch-pine tree. A typical double-peak is found in the bush-pine tree location spectrum and a single-peak is found in the branch-pine tree spectrum.

Implant placement in the pterygoid region is a reliable treatment for posterior maxillary tooth loss. However, the surgery is not widely applied because the implant placement region is hard to access and the direct visual access is limited. This clinical report describes the use of a dynamic navigation system to improve the pterygoid implant placement surgery. Human body temperature not only reflects vital signs, but also affects the state of various organs through blood circulation, and even affects lifespan. Here a wireless body temperature detection scheme was presented that the temperature was extracted by investigating the out-of-plane (OP) ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) field of 10.2 nm thick La 0.7 Sr 0.3 MnO 3 (LSMO) film using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) technique. Within the range of 34-42 °C, the OP FMR field changes linearly with the increasing or decreasing temperature, and this variation comes from the linear responses of magnetization to the fluctuant temperature. In the current in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer protocol, the 8 blastomeres in the day-3 embryo are selected for transfer because these embryos can produce high rates of blastocyst formation and clinical pregnancy. However, the relationship between the blastomere number in day-2 embryos and the rate of blastocyst formation or clinical pregnancy remains unclear. The purpose of this retrospective study is to explore the relationship between the blastomere number in day-2 embryos and the rate of blastocyst formation or clinical pregnancy. From January 2015 to April 2020, we collected 8126 day-3 embryos (8 blastomeres) from 2282 patients. These embryos were classified into 8 groups (1 blastomere, 2 blastomeres, 3 blastomeres, 4 blastomeres, 5 blastomeres, 6 blastomeres, 7 blastomeres, and 8 blastomeres) based on their blastomeres number on day 2 after insemination. Of these groups, the 4 blastomeres group accounted for the largest proportion (74.44%). The 1 blastomere group accounted for the smallest proportion (0.22%). A total of 3554 day-3 embryos (8 blastomeres) from 1648 patients developed into blastocysts. The rate of blastocyst formation from the 4 blastomeres group was the highest (94.06%). Finally, 800 patients received single day-3 embryos (8 blastomeres) transfer. The rate of clinical pregnancy from 4 blastomeres group was the highest (51.98%). In conclusion, our data provide evidence that the number of blastomeres in day-2 embryos affects the rate of blastocyst formation and clinical pregnancy., (© 2021. Periodontitis is closely related to oral cancer, but the molecular mechanism of periodontal pathogens involved in the occurrence and development of oral cancer is still inconclusive. Here, we demonstrate that, in vitro , the cell proliferation ability and S phase cells of the periodontitis group (colonized by Porphyromonas gingivalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum , P+) significantly increased, but the G1 cells were obviously reduced. The animal models with an in situ oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and periodontitis-associated bacteria treatment were constructed, and micro-CT showed that the alveolar bone resorption of mice in the P+ group (75.3 ± 4.0 μm) increased by about 53% compared with that in the control group (48.8 ± 1.3 μm). The tumor mass and tumor growth rate in the P+ group were all higher than those in the blank control group. Hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) staining of isolated tumor tissues showed that large-scale flaky necrosis was found in the tumor tissue of the P+ group, with lots of damaged vascular profile and cell debris. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) of isolated tumor tissues showed that the expression of Ki67 and the positive rate of cyclin D1 were significantly higher in tumor tissues of the P+ group. The qRT-PCR results of the expression of inflammatory cytokines in oral cancer showed that periodontitis-associated bacteria significantly upregulated interleukin (IL)-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, IL-18, apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD (ASC) (up to six times), and caspase-1 (up to four times), but it downregulated nuclear factor (NF)-κB, NOD-, LRR- and pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3), and IL-1β (less than 0.5 times). In addition, the volume of spleen tissue and the number of CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, and CD206+ macrophages in the P+ group increased significantly. IHC and Western blotting in tumor tissues showed that expression levels of γ-H2AX, p-ATR, RPA32, CHK1, and RAD51 were upregulated, and the phosphorylation level of CHK1 (p-chk1) was downregulated. Together, we identify that the periodontitis-related bacteria could promote tumor growth and proliferation, initiate the overexpressed NLRP3, and activate upstream signal molecules of ATR-CHK1. Mannose induces tumor cell apoptosis and inhibits glucose metabolism by accumulating intracellularly as mannose 6-phosphate while the drug sensitivity of tumors is negatively correlated with mannose phosphate isomerase gene (MPI) expression. In this study, we performed a first attempt to explore the relationship between the targeted gene MPI and immune infiltration and genetic and clinical characteristics of head and neck squamous carcinoma (HNSC) using computational algorithms and bioinformatic analysis, and further to verify the co-inhibition effects of mannose with genotoxicity, immune responses, and microbes dysbiosis in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in vitro and in vivo. Our results found that patients with lower MPI expression had higher survival rate. The enhancement of MPI expression was in response to DNA damage gene, and ATM inhibitor was verified as a potential drug with a synergistic effect with mannose on HSC-3. In the HNSC, infiltrated immunocytes CD8 + T cell and B cell were the significantly reduced risk cells, while IL-22 and IFN-γ showed negative correlation with MPI. Finally, mannose could reverse immunophenotyping caused by antibiotics in mice, resulting in the decrease of CD8 + T cells and increase of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs). In conclusion, the MPI gene showed a significant correlation with immune infiltration and genetic and clinical characteristics of HNSC. The treatment of ATM inhibitor, immune regulating cells of CD8 + T cells and MDSCs, and oral microbiomes in combination with mannose could exhibit co-inhibitory therapeutic effect for OSCC., (© 2021. The thymus plays an irreplaceable role as a primary lymphoid organ. However, the complicate processes of its development and involution are incompletely understood. Accumulating evidence indicates that non-coding RNAs play key roles in the regulation of biological development. At present, the studies of the circRNA profiles and of circRNA-associated competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) in the thymus are still scarce. Here, deep-RNA sequencing was used to study the biological mechanisms underlying the development process (from 2-week-old to 6-week-old) and the recession process (from 6-week-old to 3-month-old) of the mouse thymus. It was found that 196 circRNAs, 233 miRNAs and 3807 mRNAs were significantly dysregulated. The circRNA-associated ceRNA networks were constructed in the mouse thymus, which were mainly involved in early embryonic development and the proliferation and division of T cells. Extreme precipitation regime under global change context is estimated to cause heavy rainstorms and longer drought intervals. Temporal variations of soil structure and erosion characteristics during and after heavy rainstorms were less investigated, particularly across a wide soil texture gradient. In this study, 15 soils were selected with clay content ranging in 12.9-38.2%. Soil erosion characteristics and enrichment ratios of organic carbon (ER OC ) and nitrogen (ER N ) were measured during 3 successive rainfall simulations at slope of 15° and intensity of 120 mm h -1 . The water-stable aggregate distribution was measured for soils before and after rainfall and drying. The mean weight diameter (MWD) of water-stable aggregate remained unchanged before (1.476 ± 0.182) and after rainfall and drying (1.406 ± 0.135 mm), but decreased for soils with higher organic carbon contents. Soil erodibility (K factor) averaged in 0.018 ± 0.003, 0.011 ± 0.001 and 0.008 ± 0.001 in 3 successive rainfall events, with 42% and 27% decreases after each event, respectively (P < 0.05); and the decreases were greater for less aggregated soils or coarser textured soils. Stepwise regression showed that the <0.25 mm water-stable aggregate explained most variations of K and its dynamics. The ER OC and ER N were close to 1 and were not correlated with clay content or MWD (P > 0.05). The ER N decreased first and then remained stable, and ER OC was unchanged during successive rainfalls. The biodiversity of the mycobiome, an important component of the oral microbial community, and the roles of fungal-bacterial and fungal-immune system interactions in the pathogenesis of oral lichen planus (OLP) remain largely uncharacterized. In this study, we sequenced the salivary mycobiome and bacteriome associated with OLP. First, we described the dysbiosis of the microbiome in OLP patients, which exhibits lower levels of fungi and higher levels of bacteria. Significantly higher abundances of the fungi Candida and Aspergillus in patients with reticular OLP and of Alternaria and Sclerotiniaceae&#95;unidentified in patients with erosive OLP were observed compared to the healthy controls. Aspergillus was identified as an "OLP-associated" fungus because of its detection at a higher frequency than in the healthy controls. Second, the co-occurrence patterns of the salivary mycobiome-bacteriome demonstrated negative associations between specific fungal and bacterial taxa identified in the healthy controls, which diminished in the reticular OLP group and even became positive in the erosive OLP group. Moreover, the oral cavities of OLP patients were colonized by dysbiotic oral flora with lower ecological network complexity and decreased fungal-Firmicutes and increased fungal-Bacteroidetes sub-networks. Third, several keystone fungal genera (Bovista, Erysiphe, Psathyrella, etc.) demonstrated significant correlations with clinical scores and IL-17 levels. Thus, we established that fungal dysbiosis is associated with the aggravation of OLP. Fungal dysbiosis could alter the salivary bacteriome or may reflect a direct effect of host immunity, which participates in OLP pathogenesis.

Background: It is widely accepted that oral health plays an important role in overall health. Both dental and medical students are expected to possess good oral health awareness and work together for public oral health promotion especially in developing countries like China. The aim of this study was to assess the oral health knowledge, behavior and status of dental and medical undergraduate students in the first (fresh) and third year (before specialized courses) study., Methods: A self-administered structured questionnaire with 13 questions was designed based on oral health knowledge, behavior and status and a cross-sectional study was conducted among the 1st, 3rd year dental students (1DS, 3DS) and medical students (1MS, 3MS) of Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, in the period of September-December 2017. The data was analyzed by chi-square test using IBM SPSS Statistics v. 21.0., Results: The oral health behavior, consciousness and status of the 1st, 3rd year medical and dental students were not optimistic. Dental freshmen were slightly superior to the medical ones in terms of the brushing methods and the awareness of oral disease-systemic disease relationship. The junior dental students showed highly significant improvement than their counterparts, mainly in the items about frequency of brushing teeth, brushing methods of vertical scrub or Bass technique (66.3%), usage of floss or mouth wash (49.7%), causes of caries, periodontal diseases and system diseases (56.9-83.4%). The rates mentioned above were 36.1, 15.8%, 26.7-43.6% among 3MS, respectively. In terms of oral health status, significant differences were only observed in junior students. The prevalence rates of bad breath, gum bleeding, and tooth discoloration among 3DS were obviously lower than those of 3MS. However, only a total of 17.2% junior students had a good oral health, including 23.8% dental students and 11.4% medical students., Conclusions: Our study provided a new understanding of oral health knowledge, behavior and status among dental and medical students, which may help to promote the reform of oral health education and establish a model for clinicians and dentists to work together for improving oral health.
