Background: The outbreak and rapid spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) not only caused an adverse impact on physical health, but also brought about mental health problems among the public., Methods: To assess the causal impact of COVID-19 on psychological changes in China, we constructed a city-level panel data set based on the expressed sentiment in the contents of 13 million geotagged tweets on Sina Weibo, the Chinese largest microblog platform., Results: Applying a difference-in-differences approach, we found a significant deterioration in mental health status after the occurrence of COVID-19. We also observed that this psychological effect faded out over time during our study period and was more pronounced among women, teenagers and older adults. The mental health impact was more likely to be observed in cities with low levels of initial mental health status, economic development, medical resources and social security., Conclusions: Our findings may assist in the understanding of mental health impact of COVID-19 and yield useful insights into how to make effective psychological interventions in this kind of sudden public health event.

In this paper, we investigate the temperature sensitivity of gain and breakdown voltage of detectors based on cycling excitation process (CEP), an internal signal amplification mechanism found in amorphous silicon (a-Si). Changes in gain and breakdown voltage with temperature can result in pixel-to-pixel signal variation in a focal plane array and variations in photon detection efficiency for single photon detectors. We have demonstrated athermalized CEP detectors with their gain and breakdown voltage being nearly temperature independent from 200 K to 350 K, covering the temperature range for practical applications. The device appears to be more thermally stable than avalanche photodetectors (APDs) with different gain media such as Si, InP, InAlAs, etc. The excellent thermal stability of CEP detectors is attributed to the field-enhanced tunneling process for excitation of localized carriers into the mobile bands, which dominates over the phonon excitation process.

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites have electronic and optoelectronic properties that make them appealing in many device applications 1-4 . Although many approaches focus on polycrystalline materials 5-7 , single-crystal hybrid perovskites show improved carrier transport and enhanced stability over their polycrystalline counterparts, due to their orientation-dependent transport behaviour 8-10 and lower defect concentrations 11,12 . However, the fabrication of single-crystal hybrid perovskites, and controlling their morphology and composition, are challenging 12 . Here we report a solution-based lithography-assisted epitaxial-growth-and-transfer method for fabricating single-crystal hybrid perovskites on arbitrary substrates, with precise control of their thickness (from about 600 nanometres to about 100 micrometres), area (continuous thin films up to about 5.5 centimetres by 5.5 centimetres), and composition gradient in the thickness direction (for example, from methylammonium lead iodide, MAPbI 3 , to MAPb 0.5 Sn 0.5 I 3 ). The transferred single-crystal hybrid perovskites are of comparable quality to those directly grown on epitaxial substrates, and are mechanically flexible depending on the thickness. Lead-tin gradient alloying allows the formation of a graded electronic bandgap, which increases the carrier mobility and impedes carrier recombination. Devices based on these single-crystal hybrid perovskites show not only high stability against various degradation factors but also good performance (for example, solar cells based on lead-tin-gradient structures with an average efficiency of 18.77 per cent).

Organometallic halide perovskites attract strong interests for their high photoresponsivity and solar cell efficiency. However, there was no systematic study of their power- and frequency-dependent photoresponsivity. We identified two different power-dependent photoresponse types in methylammonium lead iodide perovskite (MAPbI 3 ) photodetectors. In the first type, the photoresponse remains constant from 5 Hz to 800 MHz. In the second type, absorption of a single photon can generate a persistent photoconductivity of 30 pA under an applied electric field of 2.5 × 10 4 V/cm. Additional absorbed photons, up to 8, linearly increase the persistent photoconductivity, which saturates with the absorption of more than 10 photons. This is different than single-photon avalanche detectors (SPADs) because the single-photon response is persistent as long as the device is under bias, providing unique opportunities for novel electronic and photonic devices such as analogue memories for neuromorphic computing. We propose an avalanche-like process for iodine ions and estimate that absorption of a single 0.38 aJ photon triggers the motion of 10 8-9 ions, resulting in accumulations of ions and charged vacancies at the MAPbI 3 /electrode interfaces to cause the band bending and change of electric material properties. We have made the first observation that single-digit photon absorption can alter the macroscopic electric and optoelectronic properties of a perovskite thin film.

With the increase of consumer's environmental awareness and health consciousness, great attention has been paid to green furniture. This study attempts to explore consumer's intention to purchase green furniture by applying an extension model of theory of planned behavior (TPB). The original TPB model is extended by adding three factors: health consciousness, environmental awareness and willingness to pay for green furniture premium. We collect 460 usable surveys in China. The empirical findings show that environmental awareness positively affects attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control as well as willingness to pay, and then subjective norm, perceived behavioral control and willingness to pay positively influence consumer's intention to purchase green furniture. Health consciousness also positively affects consumer's attitude and intention to purchase green furniture. However, attitude toward purchasing green furniture is not significantly related to purchase intention, which implies an attitude-behavior gap. Furthermore, perceived behavioral control has the largest influence on consumer's purchasing intention, followed by health consciousness, willingness to pay and subjective norm. Additionally, compared with the original TPB model, the extension model of TPB can improve the explained variance. Strain engineering is a powerful tool with which to enhance semiconductor device performance 1,2 . Halide perovskites have shown great promise in device applications owing to their remarkable electronic and optoelectronic properties 3-5 . Although applying strain to halide perovskites has been frequently attempted, including using hydrostatic pressurization 6-8 , electrostriction 9 , annealing 10-12 , van der Waals force 13 , thermal expansion mismatch 14 , and heat-induced substrate phase transition 15 , the controllable and device-compatible strain engineering of halide perovskites by chemical epitaxy remains a challenge, owing to the absence of suitable lattice-mismatched epitaxial substrates. Here we report the strained epitaxial growth of halide perovskite single-crystal thin films on lattice-mismatched halide perovskite substrates. We investigated strain engineering of α-formamidinium lead iodide (α-FAPbI 3 ) using both experimental techniques and theoretical calculations. By tailoring the substrate composition-and therefore its lattice parameter-a compressive strain as high as 2.4 per cent is applied to the epitaxial α-FAPbI 3 thin film. We demonstrate that this strain effectively changes the crystal structure, reduces the bandgap and increases the hole mobility of α-FAPbI 3 . Strained epitaxy is also shown to have a substantial stabilization effect on the α-FAPbI 3 phase owing to the synergistic effects of epitaxial stabilization and strain neutralization. As an example, strain engineering is applied to enhance the performance of an α-FAPbI 3 -based photodetector.

A longwave-infrared photodetector made of double layers of 100nm amorphous germanium (a-Ge) and 25nm amorphous silicon (a-Si) have been demonstrated. Under room temperature, the device shows the responsivity of 1.7 A/W, detectivity of 6×108 Jones, and noise equivalent power (NEP) of 5pW/√Hz under 5V bias and at 20kHz operation. Studies of frequency dependent characteristics and device modeling indicate that, above 100Hz or beyond the bandwidth of thermal response, the device operates as a quantum detector having the photoelectrons produced by optical excitation from the bandtail states to the mobile states of a-Ge. The superior device performance may be attributed to the combination of two amplification mechanisms: photoconductive gain in a-Ge and cycling excitation process (CEP) in a-Si, with the latter being the dominant factor. Besides its attractive performance, the device has a simple structure and is easy to fabricate at low cost, thus holding promise for night vision, sensing, autonomous driving, and many other applications.

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites have demonstrated tremendous potential for the next-generation electronic and optoelectronic devices due to their remarkable carrier dynamics. Current studies are focusing on polycrystals, since controlled growth of device compatible single crystals is extremely challenging. Here, the first chemical epitaxial growth of single crystal CH 3 NH 3 PbBr 3 with controlled locations, morphologies, and orientations, using combined strategies of advanced microfabrication, homoepitaxy, and low temperature solution method is reported. The growth is found to follow a layer-by-layer model. A light emitting diode array, with each CH 3 NH 3 PbBr 3 crystal as a single pixel, with enhanced quantum efficiencies than its polycrystalline counterparts is demonstrated., (© 2018 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
