Based on tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy and off-axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy, a dual-range methane hybrid sensor was constructed utilizing the overtone absorption band of CH 4 gas molecules at 1653.7 nm. By simultaneously utilizing an off-axis integrated cavity and Herriott cell with an effective absorption path of 11 and 405 m, respectively, the two received photoelectric signals are decomposed into different frequency components by VMD and then reconstructed after SG filtering. Applying the global optimization algorithm DA-ELM to CH 4 concentration inversion, the correlation coefficient R 2 is as high as 0.9995. Through long-term stability verification, the instrument's standard deviation at 1 ppm is 27 ppb. After Allan-Werle deviation analysis, the sensor's limit of detection is 2.298 ppb at an integration time of 138 s. Using the self-developed sensor, the detection of dual-range trace CH 4 gas is achieved, enabling a dynamic detection range of trace CH 4 gas ranging from 400 ppb to 1000 ppm. The sensor realizes dual-range methane trace detection and actively controls methane emissions to improve environmental quality while taking into account the safety benefits of reducing production accidents.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in men, and in-depth study of its gene expression patterns is crucial for understanding the formation and development of prostate cancer. Although single-cell transcriptomics has deeply explored the heterogeneous expression characteristics of prostate cancer, given that normal epithelial cells themselves have different states of differentiation, these normal differentiation characteristics may lead to confusion with heterogeneous tumor characteristics. In this study, we used single-cell data from the GEO database to analyze in detail the heterogeneity of prostate cancer tumor cells/tumor-associated epithelium cells (TAECs), with a particular focus on the differentiation state of epithelial cells in matching normal tissue. We found that after subtype pairing analysis of normal tissue and tumor tissue epithelium based on differentiation status, the characteristics identified later were not consistent with the general characteristics originally exhibited by different TAECs subpopulations. Among them, all TAECs subpopulations showed P53 enrichment and downregulation of the apoptotic pathway, and expressed higher levels of EGFR, ERBB2, interferon receptors, MIF, and cell adhesion-related signals; through transcription factor regulatory network analysis, we observed that YY1, NKX3-1, and EHF had higher transcriptional activity in TAECs subpopulations than normal epithelial cells at the same differentiation stage, while ATF3 was the opposite. Among them, YY1 may act as an upstream regulator of the MIF signaling pathway, and ATF3 is a key upstream transcriptional regulator of differentially expressed genes in the P53 and apoptotic pathways. Immune infiltration analysis showed that the above four transcription factors were significantly correlated with the infiltration of immune cells in prostate cancer, and pan-cancer analysis showed that their expression-related survival risks were widely present in different cancers. It is worth noting that this is merely a preliminary, exploratory study, which inevitably has some deficiencies and limitations. Human dermal exposure to chlorinated paraffins (CPs) has not been well documented. Therefore, hand wipes were collected from four occupational populations to analyze short-chain CPs (SCCPs) and medium-chain CPs (MCCPs) in order to estimate dermal uptake and oral ingestion via hand-to-mouth contact. The total CP levels (∑SCCPs and ∑MCCPs) in wipes ranged from 71.4 to 2310 µg/m 2 in security guards, 37.6 to 333 µg/m 2 in taxi drivers, 20.8 to 559 µg/m 2 in office workers, and 20.9 to 932 µg/m 2 in undergraduates, respectively. Security guards exhibited the highest levels of ∑SCCPs among four populations (p < 0.01). In undergraduates engaged in outdoor activities, C 13 emerged as the most dominant SCCPs homologue group, followed by C 12 , C 11 , and C 10 . The levels of ∑SCCPs and ∑MCCPs in males in light haze pollution were significantly higher than that in heavy haze pollution (p < 0.05). Microbial chain elongation integrating innovative bioconversion technologies with organic waste utilization can transition current energy-intensive n-caproic acid production to sustainable circular bioeconomy systems. However, ammonia-rich waste streams, despite their suitability, pose inhibitory challenges to these bioconversion processes. Herein, biochar was employed as an additive to enhance the activity of chain elongating microbes under ammonia inhibition conditions, with an objective to detail underlying mechanisms of improvements. Biochar addition significantly improved chain elongation performance even under severe ammonia stress (exceeding 8 g N/L), increasing n-caproic acid yields by 40 % to 158 % and reducing lag times by 51 % to 90 %, compared with the best-performing group without biochar addition. The material contribution to n-caproic production reached up to 94.3 % (at 4 g N/L). These enhancements were mainly attributed to the new electron syntrophy induced by biochar, which improved electron transfer system activity and electrical conductivity of the fermentation system. This is further substantiated by increased relative abundances of the genus Sporanaerobacter, electroactive bacteria, and up-regulated direct electron transfer-related genes including conductive pili and c-type cytochrome. Addressing the demand for high stability of beamline instruments at the SHINE facility, a high stability mirror regulating mechanism has been developed for mirror adjustments. Active mass damping was adopted to attenuate pitch angle vibrations of mirrors caused by structural vibrations. An internal absolute velocity feedback was used to reduce the negative impact of spillover effects and to improve performance. The experiment was conducted on a prototype structure of a mirror regulating mechanism, and results showed that the vibration RMS of the pitch angle was effectively attenuated from 47 nrad to 27 nrad above 1 Hz., (open access.)

Introduction: This study introduces a novel method for developing an advanced exposure conceptual model tailored for health risk assessment, focusing on microenvironments., Methods: The research was conducted at a major smelter in China to assess the health risks associated with trace metals (TMs) pollutants in the facility and the surrounding soil., Results: Deterministic risk assessment indicated that cobalt, cadmium, antimony, manganese, arsenic, plumbum, and mercury (Co, Cd, Sb, Mn, As, Pb, and Hg) necessitated further evaluation through probabilistic risk assessment to assess potential health risks to residents. The 95% quantile concentrations of other TMs were found to be within acceptable health risk limits. For the probabilistic risk assessment, exposure parameters such as body weight, respiration rate, and exposure duration were collected using a questionnaire. This targeted assessment of the residential microenvironment revealed it as the site of the highest carcinogenic (CR) and non-carcinogenic risks (NCR), with values ranging from 2.84×10 -5 to 6.7×10 -5 and 1.59 to 5.57, respectively., Conclusion: The primary contaminants posing the greatest health risks in residential and industrial areas have been identified as As, Pb, and Mn. High-chloride leachate is a solution rich in precious metals that is produced in chloride hydrometallurgy. It has high levels of both rare and precious metals and hazardous chloride ions, and resource recovery from this solution and its safe disposal have become key objectives in the field of hydrometallurgy. In this study, a sustainable process involving "ultrasound-assisted precipitation-Pb powder cementation" was proposed for the stepwise separation and high-value utilization of Bi, Au and Ag obtained from high-chloride leachate. Targeted separation and conversion of Bi were achieved by precipitation-re-acid hydrolysis-ultrasonication-assisted coprecipitation-centrifugal purification. Under the optimal process conditions, the removal rate of Bi reached 99.52%, while the loss rates of Au and Ag were only 4.63% and 8.72%, respectively. Single-factor experiments of Au and Ag cementation by Pb powder showed that the recovery rates of precious metals could be improved by increasing the temperature, raising the solution pH, and applying mechanical force and ultrasonication. A possible reaction mechanism for Au and Ag cementation with Pb powder was proposed based on macroscopic kinetic analysis and microscopic mineral characterization. The study employed Density Functional Theory (DFT) to investigate the catalytic debromination mechanism of brominated epoxy resins (BERs) by iron (Fe) and copper (Cu) catalysts. By introducing electric field (EF), intramolecular electron transfer and polarization effects on BERs debromination were explored and experimentally validated. Results indicated that the bond dissociation energy (BDE) of the C-Br bond was 312.27 kJ/mol without catalysis, while with Fe, Cu, and EF, it was 114.47 kJ/mol, 94.85 kJ/mol, and 292.59 kJ/mol, respectively, enhancing reactivity. EF parallel to the C-Br bond and oriented toward the C atom, altered electrostatic potential and dipole moment around C-Br bond, leading to 68.60% and 50.19% increment in electronic contribution difference and molecule polarity, respectively, thereby reducing the C-Br BDE. Fe and Cu facilitated electron transfers with BERs, inducing reactions between their negative electrostatic potentials and Br's positive potential, changing electron sharing, resulting in 19.87% and 12.11% increase in polarity, respectively, and further BDE reduction. Structural modifications by the EF and catalysts also intensified van der Waals forces with bromine atoms and decreased spatial hindrance, collectively making C-Br bond breakage easier. Crevice corrosion (CC) behavior of 201 stainless steel (SS) in 1 M NaCl + x M HCl/y M NaOH solutions with various pH was investigated using SECM and optical microscopic observations. Results show that the CC was initiated by the decrease in pH value within the crevice. The pH value near the crevice mouth falls rapidly to 1.38 in the first 2 h in the strongly acidic solution, while the pH value was observed to rise firstly and then decrease in the neutral and alkaline solutions. It indicates there is no incubation phase in the CC evolution of 201-SS in a pH = 2.00 solution, while an incubation phase was observed in pH = 7.00 and 11.00 solutions. Additionally, there appeared to be a radial pH variation within the gap over time. The pH value is the lowest at the gap mouth, which is in line with the in situ optical observation result that the severely corroded region is at the mouth of the gap. The decrease in pH value inside results in the negative shift of open circuit potential (OCP) and the initiation of CC of 201-SS. The increased anodic dissolution rate in the acidic solution accelerates the breakdown of passive film inside, reducing the initiation time and stimulating the spread of CC.

Pyrolysis technology is considered one of the most promising processes for the environmentally friendly disposal of sewage sludge (SS), as it can neutralize pathogens, reduce hazardous substances, and promote the immobilization of heavy metals. However, nitrogen-containing gases produced in SS pyrolysis can be converted to nitrogen oxides, causing serious environmental pollution. In this study, we investigated the evolution of the nitrogen (N) element in rapid pyrolysis of SS and explored the effect of clay minerals (attapulgite, montmorillonite, and kaolin) in regulating N conversion. The results showed that the higher temperature (800 °C) could promote the conversion of pyrroles/pyridines and NO x precursors in char to N 2 (the conversion rate was 32.76 %), and clay minerals catalyzed the cleavage of N-containing macromolecules in the bio-oil, reducing the N content in bio-oil from 28.70 % to 6.23 %, and was conducted to realize the denitrification of bio-oil. Notably, the attapulgite (ATP) on N migration was more effective and could reduce the yield of NO x precursors from 23.80 % to 10.55 % by capturing NH 4 * and inhibiting the secondary reaction, while catalyzing the removal of N 2 from pyridine/pyrrole (N 2 production increased to 34.38 %). MgO and CaO in the clays played a major role in facilitating the conversion of char-N to N 2 , and clay structures loading on the biochar surface promoted the catalysis of N-containing volatiles to N 2 by metal oxides. Pyrolysis is a recycling technology for waste circuit boards (WPCBs) with a wide range of applications. In this research, the brominated epoxy resin (BER) type WPCBs were taken as the research object, and the optimal pyrolysis process parameters were determined. Combined with experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, the pyrolysis gaseous generation pattern and product distribution of BER type WPCBs were analyzed, and the generation mechanism of phenol, bromide and other pyrolysis products was investigated in depth. The results of the study showed that the pyrolysis rate of WPCBs exceeded 95 % under optimal reaction conditions. In the initial phase of the pyrolysis of WPCBs, the BER's CO bonds and a portion of Ph-Br bonds will be broken, leading to the production of intermediates such propylene oxide, bisphenol A, isopropyl alcohol, tetrabromobisphenol A and HBr. Among them, propylene oxide can generate ethylene oxide through free radical reaction. Biochar is currently used as a phosphate adsorbent in water and subsequently as a soil amendment. In this study, modified biochar was prepared directly by co-pyrolysis of MgO and rice straw, and a preliminary ecotoxicological assessment was performed before the application of modified biochar to soil. The effects of single factors, such as pyrolysis temperature, dosage, pH, and coexisting ions, on phosphate adsorption performance were investigated. In addition, after phosphate adsorption, the effects of modified biochar leachate on the germination of corn and rice seeds were examined. The results showed that phosphate adsorption by the modified biochar first increased and then decreased as the pyrolysis temperature increased, with modified biochar prepared at 800 °C showing the greatest adsorption. In addition, a comprehensive cost analysis showed that the best phosphate adsorption effect of modified biochar was achieved at a dosage of 0.10 g and a solution pH of 3. In contrast, the presence of competitive coexisting ions, Cl - , NO 3 - , CO 3 2- , and SO 4 2- , reduced the phosphate adsorption capacity of the modified biochar. The adsorption kinetics results revealed that the process of phosphate adsorption by the modified biochar was more in line with the pseudo-second-order model and dominated by chemisorption. Moreover, the adsorption isotherm results indicated that the process was more in line with the Langmuir model and dominated by monomolecular layer adsorption, with a maximum adsorption of 217.54 mg/g. Subsequent seed germination tests showed that phosphate-adsorbed modified biochar leachate had no significant effect on the germination rate of corn seeds, whereas it improved the germination rate of rice seeds. An innovative Fe-N co-coupled catalyst MN-2 was prepared from waste spirulina by co-pyrolysis as a highly active carbon-based catalyst for the activation of peroxydisulfate (PDS) for the degradation of sulfathiazole (ST). The protein-rich raw material Spirulina provided sufficient N during the pyrolysis process, thus achieving N doping without an additional nitrogen source, optimizing the interlayer structure of the biochar material and effectively inhibiting the leaching of the ligand metal Fe. MN-2 showed highly efficient catalytic activity for peroxydisulfate (PDS), with a degradation efficiency of 100% for ST within 30 min and a kinetic constant (k obs ) reached 0.306 min -1 , benefiting from the excellent adsorption ability of MN-2 forming MN-2-PDS* complexes and the electron transfer process generated by Fe 3+ and Fe 2+ cycling, oxygen-containing functional groups. The effects of PDS dosage, initial pH and coexisting anions on the oxidation process were also investigated. Free radical quenching, electron paramagnetic resonance and electrochemical measurements were employed to explain the hydroxyl (·OH) and sulfate (SO 4 ·- ) as the dominant active species and the electron transfer effect on the removal of ST. MN-2 maintained a ST removal rate of 84% after four recycling experiments, showing a high reusability performance. To relieve the secondary contamination of heavy metals (HMs), the synergistic effect of co-pyrolysis of textile dyeing sludge (DS)/litchi shell (LS) and CaO on the migration of HMs was demonstrated in this study. The proportions of Cu, Zn, Cr, Mn, and Ni in the F4 fraction increased to 75%, 55%, 100%, 50%, and 62% at the suitable CaO dosages. When 10% CaO was added, the RI value of DLC-10% was reduced to 7.89, indicating low environmental risk. The characterizations of the physicochemical properties of biochar provided support for the HMs immobilization mechanism. Permanent hypoparathyroidism is a postoperative complication of thyroid and parathyroid surgery and can be cured by cryopreserved parathyroid autotransplantation (CPAT). However, due to the lack of unified and standardized guidelines, the limited ability of the parathyroid tissue itself to withstand cryopreservation, and some yet-to-be-defined processes or technologies, the success rate of cryopreserved parathyroid autotransplantation varies between institutions; it is low for some institutions and high for others. Due to the sparsity of data, views vary on which factors most influence the success rate of cryopreserved parathyroid autotransplantation. In this review, we analyzed the following probable influencing factors: ischemic period before cryopreservation; processes of cryopreservation and thawing, including freezing medium; freezing and thawing methods; duration of cryopreservation; examination of the graft before transplantation; graft site; mass of transplanted tissue fragments; blood calcium level; and the evaluation criteria for cryopreserved parathyroid autotransplantation success. Although the effects of these factors are debatable, we hypothesized that examining them in the above-given order to determine whether they affect the success rate of cryopreserved parathyroid autotransplantation could be beneficial to maximizing the success rate. Our findings led us to conclude that cryopreserved parathyroid autotransplantation operations should be standardized. Biochar modified by metal ions-particularly Mg-is typically used for the effective recovery of phosphorous. In this study, MgO-modified biochars were synthesized via the direct co-pyrolysis of MgO and raw materials such as rice straw, corn straw, Camellia oleifera shells, and branches from garden waste, which were labeled as MRS, MCS, MOT, and MGW, respectively. The resulting phosphate (PO) adsorption capacities and potential adsorption mechanisms were analyzed. The PO adsorption capacities of the biochars were significantly improved after the modification with MgO: MRS (24.71 ± 0.32 mg/g) > MGW (23.55 ± 0.46 mg/g) > MOT (15.23 ± 0.19 mg/g) > MCS (14.12 ± 0.21 mg/g). PO adsorption on the modified biochars was controlled by physical adsorption, precipitation, and surface inner-sphere complexation processes, although no electrostatic attraction was observed. Furthermore, PO adsorbed on modified biochars could be released under acidic, alkaline, and neutral conditions. Skin wounds may cause severe financial and social burden due to the difficulties in wound healing. Original inert dressings cannot meet multiple needs in the process of wound healing. Therefore, the development of materials to accelerate healing progress is essential and urgent. In the previous study, we found that the homogeneously synthesized hydroxybutyl chitosan (HBCS) had an effective performance in promoting wound healing. Proteomic analysis of the same specimen suggested that matrix metalloproteinase 23 (MMP23) may play a key role in HBCS expediting the progress of wound healing. In this work, we aim to reveal the underlying mechanism of MMP23 in the dynamic process of cutaneous proliferation and repair period. In order to regulate the expression level of MMP23 in the local wound area, we leaded in adeno-associated virus (AAV) to specifically decreased expression quantity of MMP23 in rat skin. In contrast to the negative control groups, we found that the wound closed faster and the collagen fibers and neovascularization were significantly increased in AAV groups. These findings highlighted that MMP23 was involved in wound healing after traumatic injury, and managing the expression of MMP23 could be a potential intervention target to accelerate wound healing.

The application of the adsorption method in sewage treatment has recently become a hot spot. A novel magnetic clay-biochar composite (BNT-MBC) was fabricated by co-pyrolysis of bentonite and biomass after being impregnated with Fe (NO 3 ) 3 ·9H 2 O. Its adsorption capacity for Cd(II) and methyl orange was approximately doubled, reaching a maximum of 26.22 and 63.34 mg/g, and could be easily separated from the solution by using external magnets with its saturation magnetization of 9.71 emu/g. A series of characterizations including surface morphology and pore structure, elemental analysis, functional group analysis and graphitization were carried out, showing that the specific surface area was increased 50 times by loading 20 wt.% bentonite, while its graphitization and oxygen-containing functional groups were also enhanced. The isotherm fitting indicated that Cd(II) was adsorbed in multiple layers, while methyl orange was in both monolayer and multilayer adsorptions. The kinetic fitting indicated that chemisorption was the rate-limiting step of both, and it was also a complex process controlled by two steps with the fitting of intra-particle diffusion. In the binary system of Cd(II) and methyl orange, the co-existing pollutants facilitated the adsorption of the original one, and there was no competition between adsorption sites of Cd(II) and methyl orange. BNT-MBC also exhibited good reusability and can be magnetically recovered for recycling. Thus, the magnetic clay-biochar composite BNT-MBC is a cost-effective and promising adsorbent for simultaneous removing Cd(II) and methyl orange from wastewater.

Magnetic separable biochar holds great promise for the treatment of Pb 2+ -contaminated wastewater. However, the absorption effect of unmodified magnetic biochar is poor. Considering this gap in knowledge, CeO 2 -doped magnetic coconut coir biochar (Ce-MCB) and magnetic coconut coir biochar (MCB) for Pb 2+ absorption were prepared by the impregnation method, and the efficiency of Ce-MCB for Pb 2+ absorption was evaluated in comparison with MCB. Conducting the absorption experiments, the study provided theoretical support for the exploration of the absorption mechanism. The quantitative analysis exposed that the enhanced absorption capacity of Ce-MCB was attributed to the increase in oxygen-containing functional groups and mineral precipitation. The Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm model showed that Ce-MCB is a suitable adsorbent for Pb 2+ . The absorption characteristics of Ce-MCB was fit well with the pseudo-second-order (PSO) and Langmuir models, which revealed that the absorption of Pb 2+ in water was monolayer chemisorption with a maximum theoretical adsorption capacity of 140.83 mg·g -1 . The adsorption capacity of Ce-MCB for Pb(II) was sustained above 70% after four cycles. In addition, the saturation magnetization intensity of Ce-MCB was 7.15 emu·g -1 , which was sufficient to separate out from the solution. In this study, a waste walnut shell-derived biochar enriched with nitrogen (N-biochar) is mixed with nitrogen-doped TiO 2 (N-TiO 2 ) to fulfill an affordable composite material for the degradation of methyl orange (MO). Results showed that porous structure and oxygen-containing functional groups of biochar facilitate contact with MO during the reaction process. Meanwhile, doped nitrogen has a positive effect on improving the reaction activity due to the existence of a substituted state and a gap state in the catalyst. It was revealed that the N-TiO 2 /N-biochar (NCNT0.2/1) exhibited better photocatalytic degradation efficiency (97.6%) and mineralization rate (85.4%) of MO than that of TiO 2 , N-TiO 2 , and TiO 2 /N-biochar due to its stronger synergistic effect of N, TiO 2 , and biochar, in accordance with its high charge separation by photoluminescence (PL) analysis. Trapping experiments showed that ·OH is the predominant active species during the decolorization and mineralization process of MO. After five repeated use, the loss of activity of the catalyst was negligible. This work aimed to investigate the effect of pyrolysis temperature on the yield and properties of biochars synthesized from herbaceous and woody plants. Four typical materials, including two herbaceous plants (rice straw, corn straw) and two woody plants (camellia oleifera shells, garden waste), were used in the experiments under five operating temperatures (from 300 °C to 700 °C, with an interval of 100 °C). The results showed biochar derived from herbaceous plants had a significantly higher pH (from 7.68 to 11.29 for RS), electrical conductivity (EC, from 6.5 Ms cm -1 to 13.2 mS cm -1 for RS), cation exchange conductivity (CEC, from 27.81 cmol kg -1 to 21.69 cmol kg -1 for RS), and ash content (from 21.79% to 32.71% for RS) than the biochar from woody plants, but the volatile matter (VM, from 42.23% to 11.77% for OT) and specific surface area (BET, from 2.88 m 2  g -1 to 301.67 m 2  g -1 for OT) in the woody plant-derived biochar were higher. Except for CEC and VM, all the previously referred physicochemical characteristics in the as-prepared biochars increased with the increasing pyrolysis temperature, the H/C and O/C values of herbaceous and woody plant-derived biochar were lower than 0.9 and 0.3, respectively, confirming their potential as the material for carbon sequestration. The results revealed that biochar made from herbaceous plants was more suitable for acidic soil amendments. Conventional biochar has limited effectiveness in the adsorption of sulfonamide antibiotics, while modified biochar exhibits greater adsorption potential. Residues of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in the aquatic environment can threaten the safety of microbial populations as well as humans. In this study, iron-nitrogen co-doped modified biochar (Fe-N-BC) was prepared from palm fibers and doped with Fe and urea via synthesis at 500 °C. Fe-N-BC has a richer surface functional group based on elemental content, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) specific surface area test exhibited Fe-N-BC, which possessed a greater surface area (318.203 m 2 /g) and a better developed pore structure (0.149 cm 3 /g). The results of the hysteresis loop and the Raman spectrum show that Fe-N-BC has a higher degree of magnetization and graphitization. Fe-N-BC showed a remarkable adsorption capacity for SMX (42.9 mg/g), which could maintain 93.4% adsorption effect after four cycles, and 82.8% adsorption capacity in simulated piggery wastewater. The adsorption mechanism involves pore filling, surface complexation, electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding, and π-π EDA interactions. In this paper, numerical investigation and optimization is conducted upon an improved updraft gasifier which is expected to overcome the weakness of conventional updraft gasifier. The comprehensive Aspen Plus model of the improved updraft gasifier is based on the RYield and RCSTR reactor. The tar prediction model is constructed, and the yield of tar is determined by the volatile of biomass and gasification temperature. The Aspen Plus simulation results agree very well with experiment results for the product yields and gasification efficiency, which shows the accuracy of the Aspen Plus model. The tar content in syngas of the improved gasifier is proved to be much lower than that of the conventional one by this model. The inflection point of the gasification efficiency occurs when air ratio is 0.25, and the optimum steam proportion in the air is 7.5%. Such a comprehensive investigation could provide necessary information for the optimal design and operation of the improved updraft gasifier.

Lead ion (Pb 2+ ) in wastewater cannot be biodegraded and destroyed. It can easily be enriched in living organisms, which causes serious harm to the environment and human health. Among the existing treatment technologies, adsorption is a green and efficient way to treat heavy metal contamination. Novel KMnO 4 -treated magnetic biochar (KFBC) was successfully synthesized by the addition of Fe(NO 3 ) 3 and KMnO 4 treatment during carbonization following Pb 2+ adsorption. SEM-EDS, XPS, and ICP-OES were used to evaluate the KFBC and magnetic biochar (FBC) on the surface morphology, surface chemistry characteristics, surface functional groups, and Pb 2+ adsorption behavior. The effects of pH on the Pb 2+ solution, initial concentration of Pb 2+ , adsorption time, and influencing ions on the adsorption amount of Pb 2+ were examined, and the adsorption mechanisms of FBC and KFBC on Pb 2+ were investigated. The results showed that pH had a strong influence on the adsorption of KFBC and the optimum adsorption pH was 5. The saturation adsorption capacity fitted by the model was 170.668 mg/g. The successful loading of manganese oxides and the enhanced oxygen functional groups, as evidenced by XPS and FTIR data, improved KFBC for heavy metal adsorption. Mineral precipitation, functional group complexation, and π-electron interactions were the primary adsorption processes.

Nickel-containing electroplating sludge (NiES) and dyeing sludge (DS) were used to prepare oxygen carriers (OCs) for chemical looping gasification (CLG) of DS. X-ray diffraction (XRD), surface area and porosity analysis were employed to investigate the crystal structure and pore structure of NiES and DS ash OCs. It was found that OCs prepared at 850 ℃ for 8 h (850NiES8, 850DS8) exhibited good characteristics in terms of pore structure. X-ray fluorescence (XRF), hydrogen temperature programmed reduction (H 2 -TPR) and thermo-gravimetric (TG) were employed to explore the elemental composition, reactivity, redox behavior and their effect on DS pyrolysis of the two selected OCs. The influence of mass ratio of 850NiES8, 850DS8 to DS (850NiES8/DS, 850DS8/DS) and reaction temperature on DS CLG were investigated. It showed that the addition of two OCs significantly promoted the gas yield of DS while accelerating the gasification process. It showed a better performance of 850NiES8 than that of 850DS8 when it was below 900 ℃. On the other side, 850DS8 showed more advantage between 900 and 950 ℃. And high carbon conversion (η C ) of 80.94%,77.59% and acceptable valid gas yield (V g ) of 0.192,0.190 Nm 3 /kg could be obtained at 850 ℃ when 850NiES8/DS, 850DS8/DS were 1, respectively. Novel KMnO 4 -modified loofah biochar loaded with nano-Fe 2 O 3 (FMLB) was successfully synthesized for Cu(II) adsorption. Nitrogen adsorption method, scanning electron microscope, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, and other characterization measurements were used to evaluate the physical and chemical properties of FMLB and nano-Fe 2 O 3 -loaded biochar (FLB). The results show that the adsorption behavior of Cu(II) can be best fitted by the Langmuir isotherm model and the pseudo-second-order (PSO) kinetic model, indicating that the surface of FMLB was composed of homogeneous adsorption, and chemical adsorption dominated the adsorption process under optimal reaction conditions. The adsorption capacity of FMLB is improved by 42.86% compared to FLB, and it remained over 75% after four cycles. The inner-sphere complexes with manganese oxide (MnO x ) and oxygen-containing functional groups, as well as electrostatic interaction, physical adsorption, and ion exchange, play important roles in Cu(II) adsorption. The saturation magnetization of FMLB was 10.41 emu/g, ensuring that it can be easily separated from aqueous solutions. Converting plastic wastes into value-added products through energy-efficient pyrolysis is essential, and it requires lower pyrolysis temperatures and shorter processing times than that of other processes. An exothermic phenomenon was observed during the process high-pressure polyethylene pyrolysis. It was proven for the first time that the exotherm is caused by a pressure-induced phase transition, in which colossal heat release can be driven by relatively small pressures. A large temperature change (> 100 °C) leads to the deep cracking of polyethylene, although the set temperature is far lower than the required temperature for thermal cracking. Importantly, the heat input stops immediately when the set temperature is reached; thus, the external heating time is short. Polyethylene can be completely converted into liquid products in ~90 wt% yield and with a small number of gases. The self-exothermic phase transition only occurs within a certain range of material thickness, which is related to the corresponding phase behavior. In the self-exothermic pyrolysis process, with an increase in the thickness of polyethylene, the proportion of low-value olefins in oil products decreases gradually, while alkanes, isoalkanes and aromatics show an increasing trend, making the product composition closer to the fuel standard. The transformation of waste plastics into value-added aromatics could incentivize better waste plastic management. The reported studies had low selectivity for monocyclic aromatics because more polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and carbon residues were generated. The effects of temperature, pressure, and catalyst on monocyclic aromatic selectivity were explored using a central composite design (CCD) followed by the response surface methodology (RSM) at a high ramp rate of 15 °C/min. The liquid product yield and selectivity to aromatic hydrocarbons were enhanced by regulating the acidic properties of the catalyst and processing parameters. The proportion of monocyclic aromatics in the liquid product was up to 90%, and the yield of monocyclic aromatics based on the reactant mass was 51% at the optimized condition. The carbon deposit production was low (only approximately 1%), which allowed higher liquid yields. In addition, the coupling mechanism of multiple factors on the depolymerization/aromatization reactions was proposed. In this study, pulp sludge-derived biochar synthesized through modification with ZnCl 2 under multistep pyrolysis conditions was investigated for the effective removal of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. Results showed that when the Zn2PT350-700 dosage was 10 mg, the largest adsorption amount of MB was 590.20 mg/g within 24 h under pH = 8. Kinetics and thermodynamics revealed that the adsorption process of MB can be described by the Freundlich isotherm model and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, which means that multilayer sorption occurred on the heterogeneous surface of Zn2PT350-700. The analysis of the adsorption mechanism showed that electrostatic attraction between the deprotonated functional groups and MB + , cation exchange, and π-electron interaction played a major role in MB adsorption, followed by physical adsorption. After six cycles of desorption-adsorption, Zn2PT350-700 still maintained good adsorption performance. All results demonstrated that Zn2PT350-700 could perform as promising adsorbents for efficient MB removal from wastewater. In the present research, a series of metal oxides were employed to investigate the role of varied acid-base site on kinetics and mechanism for catalytic fast pyrolysis of cellulose using TG-MS and Py-GC/MS. The results showed that the modulation of acidity-to-basicity value via altering metal oxides constituents significantly affected the transformation pathway for cellulose pyrolysis. Higher acidity-to-basicity ratios accelerated the proceeding of deoxygenation process, wherein 39.4% aromatics and 34.7% aliphatic hydrocarbons were achieved using Al 2 O 3 (acidity-to-basicity value of 1.38) at 750 °C with a catalyst/cellulose mass ratio of 15:1. In comparison, lowering acidity-to-basicity ratios mainly facilitated the ketonization and aldol condensation, therefore over 70% ketones was attained in the case of CaO catalysis. The kinetic studies further verified the promotional role of acid-base sites on cellulose pyrolysis with apparent activation energy as low as 33.72 kJ/mol, in comparison with that of cellulose pyrolysis without adding catalysts. From another aspect, the composite metal oxides with better porous structures contributed to deoxygenation conversion for the production of aromatics and aliphatic hydrocarbons. Moreover, plausible reaction pathway for cellulose pyrolysis over metal oxides was proposed. This study developed an efficient and sustainable hydrometallurgical process for the enrichment of gold and silver and the stepwise separation of copper, zinc, and lead from sulfated roasted sand of waste printed circuit board smelting ash. Selective separation of copper and zinc was achieved by water leaching, and silver dispersion was reduced by controlling the amount of NaCl added during the leaching process. The results of the water leaching showed that the copper and zinc leaching rates were 99.85% and 99.47%, respectively, whereas the loss rate of silver was 2.1% with optimal leaching parameters. The high-chloride-complex method was used to study the efficient conversion and separation of lead from the leached residue, and the leaching kinetics and conversion mechanism of lead were discussed. The results showed that under the optimal conditions, the leaching rate of lead was 99.79%. Leaching kinetics analysis showed that lead leaching in the high - chlorine system was controlled by a chemical reaction; the apparent activation energy was 53.63 kJ/mol. After the leaching of copper, zinc, and lead, 1.66% Ag and 213 g/t Au were enriched in the leached residue; and the precious metal enrichment goal was reached. The chlorinated leachate showed good recycling performance, and a lead leaching rate of 97.93% was obtained after three circulations. After cooling, crystallization, and purification, lead chloride with a purity of 99.89% and high economic and industrial value was obtained from the lead-rich leachate. The waste printed circuit board smelting ash (WPCB-SA) produced in the waste printed circuit board smelting process is a hazardous material that not only contains valuable metals, but also contains a large amount of toxic and harmful inorganic bromides. The utilization of metals has received considerable attention in previous studies, but the recovery of hazardous bromides requires further study. In this article, a new idea of converting inorganic bromine in WPCB-SA by traditional sulfated roasting is proposed. Debromination kinetics under simulated experimental conditions are discussed, and kinetic equations are established. The kinetic results show that during low-temperature sulfated roasting, the conversion of Br in CuBr and PbBr 2 conforms to the chemical reaction diffusion model and diffusion control the product layer model, respectively. A possible reaction mechanism is also proposed. Our research shows that the conversion of Br in CuBr is divided into three processes: covalent bond decomposition, hydrogen ion form acid, copper ion form salt, and HBr oxidation conversion, whereas the conversion of Br in PbBr 2 is divided into two processes: sulfuric acid ionization, lead ion form salt and HBr oxidation conversion. In the present study, catalytic fast pyrolysis of waste mixed cloth in an ex-situ method using hierarchical HZSM and commercial CaO was investigated. Pyrolysis of waste mixed cloth in a temperature range of 450 °C to 750 °C mainly allowed for the formation of levoglucosan without any catalysts. The utilization of HZSM with Brønsted/Lewis acid sites on micro- and mesoporous structures significantly contributed to monocyclic/dicyclic chemicals production, mainly referring to monoaromatics and naphthalene-based derivatives, especially in the case of high heating rates and catalyst usages. Furthermore, CaO revealed strong deoxygenation performance for the transformation of waste mixed cloth into low oxygen-containing chemicals, such as ketones, aliphatic hydrocarbons and aromatics. Potassium is an inorganic mineral element in biomass and has a significant catalytic effect on biomass pyrolysis. In this work, the effect of potassium on the pyrolysis of biomass components (cellulose, xylan and lignin) was investigated with the help of thermogravimetric analyzer coupled to fourier transform infrared spectrometer (TG-FTIR) and pyrolysis-gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS). The results showed that potassium accelerated the start of the main pyrolysis stage of the biomass components, reduced the weight loss rate for cellulose and lignin, and increased the weight loss rate for xylan. On the other hand, potassium presented a promotion effect on the formation of char for cellulose but a suppression effect for lignin. In addition, an increasing potassium content promoted the release of volatile products for xylan. Product distribution analysis found that potassium promoted the scission of glycosidic bonds and the decomposition of glucose units, resulting in a sharp yield decrease of carbohydrates and a yield increase of furans, aldehydes and ketones. In addition, an increased production of CO 2 was obtained, indicating that potassium favors the cleavage and reforming of carboxyl (COOH) and carbonyl (CO) groups. Furthermore, the effect of potassium on the pyrolysis of cellulose and xylan was stronger than that on lignin pyrolysis. The effect on the pyrolysis reaction also resulted in a higher activation energy for the decomposition of biomass components, especially at high temperature intervals. For carbon fiber epoxy resin used in aerostructure, thermal degradation mechanism and kinetics play an important role in the evaluation of thermal response and combustion characteristics. However, the thermal decomposition process and mechanism are difficult to unify strictly due to the complexity of the components from different suppliers. In the present study, a product of carbon fiber epoxy resin made by AVIC (Aviation Industry Corporation of China) composite corporation is examined to identify its thermal degradation mechanism and pyrolysis products by measurements, including simultaneous thermal analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, establish the kinetic model by Kissinger/Friedman/Ozawa/Coats-Redfern methods. The results show thermal degradation occurs in three steps under the inert atmosphere, but in four steps under air atmosphere, respectively. The first two steps in both environments are almost the same, including drying, carbon dioxide escape and decomposition of the epoxy resin. In the third step of inert atmosphere, phenol is formed, methane decreases, carbon monoxide basically disappears and carbon dioxide production increases. However, in air, thermal oxidation of the carbonaceous residues and intermolecular carbonization are observed. Furthermore, thermal degradation reaction mechanism submits to the F 4 model. These results provide fundamental and comprehensive support for the application of carbon fiber epoxy resin in aircraft industry.

Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) is considered a promising renewable energy conversion technology, but it remains challenging to find active, stable, low-cost, and highly efficient electrocatalysts for the CO 2 conversion. Here, we develop an in situ nitrogen-doped, metal-free, porous biochar from plant moss to catalyze the electrochemical reduction of CO 2 into methane (CH 4 ), methanol (CH 3 OH) and ethanol (C 2 H 5 OH) at high current densities and low overpotentials. Using this metal-free biochar electrocatalyst, production rates of approximately 36.1, 32.1, and 18.1 μg h -1  cm -2 towards CH 4 , C 2 H 5 OH, and CH 3 OH are obtained with Faradaic efficiencies of 56.0%, 26.0% and 10.5%, respectively. In addition, the total faradaic efficiency reaches 92.6% at -1.2 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) with good stability. A favorable pathway for the electrochemical reduction of CO 2 over the metal-free biochar is also provided. Hierarchically three-dimensional (3D) micro-nanostructures have promising applications in multifarious fields. Herein, we report a general strategy, that is, in situ catalysis process, for fabrication of nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube (NCNT) arrays on one-dimensional (1D) nitrogen-doped carbon (NC) skeletons. The NCNT arrays branch out from the 1D NC surfaces, resulting in the formation of hierarchically 3D micro-nanostructures. The strategy is involved in the pyrolysis of M-precursor (M = Fe, Co, and Ni) nanowires with the assistance of dicyandiamide. During the synthesis process, the metal components in the precursors serve as catalysts for growing NCNTs, while dicyandiamide provides carbon and nitrogen sources. With the ongoing reaction, the NCNTs were catalytically grown and branched out from 1D NC skeletons. Through the strategy, three kinds of hierarchically 3D structures with encapsulated Fe/Fe 3 C, Co, and Ni nanoparticles, respectively, were fabricated successfully. As functional materials for attenuating electromagnetic wave energy, these hierarchically 3D structures exhibit satisfactory performances even at a low matching thickness, exceeding most of the carbon-based materials. Typically, the minimal reflection losses of the 3D structures can reach -10.0 dB even as the matching thickness is in the range of 1.4-2.0 mm. Experimental results demonstrate that the excellent attenuation properties toward electromagnetic wave energy are relative to high conduction loss at a low frequency and high dielectric relaxations at a high frequency as well as better impedance matching with the input impedance of the free space. Our method presented here opens a general way for the development of hierarchically 3D carbon-based micro-nanostructures for their practical applications.

In this contribution, biochar from municipal sludge was used as a novel matrix for the synthesis of a series of calcium-based heterogeneous catalysts toward biodiesel production. Their catalytic activity was investigated in terms of catalyst loading and calcination temperature during preparation, in addition to the transesterification parameters including the methanol/oil molar ratio, reaction time, and catalyst amount. The highest biodiesel yield up to 93.77% was achieved with the 30Ca/A-SBC-700, and it maintained as high as 84.9% even after 10 cycles of a consecutively alternating catalysis and regeneration process. It was revealed that the porous municipal sludge biochar and autologous SiO 2 were accountable for the superior stability of the present catalyst. Herein, we report three-dimensional (3D) urchin-like amorphous nitrogen-doped CNT (NCNT) arrays with embedded cobalt-nickel@graphene core@shell nanoparticles (NPs) in the inner parts of NCNTs (CoNi@G@NCNTs) for highly efficient absorption toward microwave (MW). The CoNi NPs are covered with about seven layers of graphene shell, resulting in the formation of CoNi@G core-shell structures. In the meanwhile, the CoNi@G core-shell NPs are further encapsulated within NCNTs. Benefitting from the multiple scattering of the unique 3D structure toward MW, cooperative effect between magnetic loss and dielectric loss, and additional interfacial polarizations, the 3D urchin-like CoNi@G@NCNTs exhibit excellent MW energy attenuation ability with a broad absorption bandwidth of 5.2 GHz with a matching thickness of merely 1.7 mm, outperforming most reported absorbers. Furthermore, the chemical stability of the 3D urchin-like CoNi@G@NCNTs is improved greatly due to the presence of the graphene coating layers and outmost NCNTs, facilitating their practical applications. Our results highlight a novel strategy for fabrication of 3D nanostructures as high-performance MW-absorbing materials.

A great prospect of sewage sludge self-recycling as a conditioner supports the research. A synergetic conditioning effect and mechanism were reflected after the synergistic conditioning experiment, and the corresponding separated experiment of biochar, K 2 FeO 4 or acid treatment on WAS. All of the biochar, K 2 FeO 4 and acid treatment could reduce the water content of sludge cake. Biochar had good effect on WAS settleability, although the influence of the biochar dosage was weak. Similar to K 2 FeO 4, acid treatment also could reinforce the disintegration degree effectively, but it deteriorated the filter property of WAS. In the situation of synergistic condition, owing to the strong oxidation of K 2 FeO 4 , most of the sludge flocs was disintegrated, thus the settleability and filter property of WAS were still bad, even the biochar worked as a skeleton builder. Herein, we use reduced graphene oxide as a substrate and NiFe as a catalyst to fabricate three-dimensional (3D) nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube (NCNT)/reduced graphene oxide heteronanostructures (3D NiFe/N-GCTs). The 3D NiFe/N-GCTs are composed of two-dimensional (2D) reduced graphene oxide-supported one-dimensional (1D) NiFe nanoparticle-encapsulated NCNT arrays. The NCNTs exhibit bamboo-like shapes with the length and diameter of 3-10 μm and 15-45 nm, respectively. Besides integration of advantages of 1D and 2D nanomaterials, the 3D NiFe/N-GCT heteronanostructure possesses interconnected network structures, sufficient interfaces, numerous defects, hundreds of void spaces enclosed by bamboo joints and the walls of the NCNT in an individual carbon nanotube, and large surface areas, which can improve their dielectric losses toward electromagnetic wave. Thus, the 3D NiFe/N-GCTs show satisfied property toward electromagnetic wave absorption. Typically, the optimized 3D NiFe/N-GCT displays excellent minimal reflection loss (-40.3 dB) and outstanding efficient absorption bandwidth (4.5 GHz), outperforming most of the reported absorbers. Remarkably, the synthesis of 3D NiFe/N-GCTs only involves vacuum freeze-drying and subsequent thermal treatment process at a high temperature, and thus, the large-scale production of 3D NiFe/N-GCTs can be achieved in each batch, affording the possibility of the practical applications of the 3D NiFe/N-GCTs.

Macrophages have been recognized as a vital factor that can promote renal fibrosis. Previously we reported that the EGFR mimotope could alleviate the macrophage infiltration in the Sjögren's syndrome-like animal model. In current study, we sought to observe whether the active immunization induced by the EGFR mimotope could ameliorate renal fibrosis in the murine Unilateral Ureteral Obstruction (UUO) model. A series of experiments showed the EGFR mimotope immunization could ameliorate renal fibrosis, reduce the expressions of fibronectin, α-SMA and collagen I and alleviate the infiltrations of F4/80+ macrophages in UUO model. Meanwhile, the EGFR mimotope immunization could inhibit the EGFR downstream signaling. Additionally, the frequency of and F4/80+CD9+/FAS+ macrophages significantly increased in spleen after the EGFR mimotope immunization. A series of TiO 2 /biochar composite catalysts were prepared by the hydrolysis method for the degradation of methyl orange, where biochar was obtained from the pyrolysis of waste walnut shells. The catalysts were examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), elemental analysis and ultra violet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS). The photocatalytic activity results showed that the catalysts noted as CT0.1/1, CT0.2/2 and CT 0.5/1 exhibited higher catalytic activity than that of pure TiO 2 . Besides, catalyst CT0.2/1 exhibited the highest catalytic activity (the decolorization efficiency of 96.88% and the mineralization efficiency of 83.23% were obtained), attributed to the synergistic effect of biochar and TiO 2 , while CT1/1 possessed the lowest activity due to the shelter of light by the excess biochar. After 5 repeated use, the catalyst CT0.2/1 still exhibited rather high activity toward the degradation of MO, where the decolorization efficiency and mineralization efficiency of MO achieved 92.45% and 76.56%, and the loss of activity was negligible., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Ltd. Fermentation residue from food waster (FRFW) has a large amount of residual chlorine (Cl), and the high-salt of FRFW is either landfilled or treated as a fertilizer. The transfer of chlorine to the atmosphere and soil can cause pollution and soil salinization. This work primarily investigated the combined forms and migration mechanisms of Cl during the torrefaction of FRFW from 250 to 400 °C. The results showed that the form and amount of Cl released during the torrefaction of FRFW depended on temperature. The absolute content of soluble Cl and total Cl in torrefied solid products decreased, and the absolute content of insoluble Cl reached a maximum at 350 °C, which indicated that some soluble Cl was transferred to the insoluble Cl (CCl forms). The Cl-containing products in non-condensable gas was too little to be detected, so the majority of the reduced Cl was in liquids with different organic compounds., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Ltd. Anode design is highly significant for microbial fuel cells, since it simultaneously serves as the scaffold for electroactive microorganisms and as a medium for electron migration. In this study, a stiff 3D carbon foam with surface anchored nitrogen-containing carbon nanoparticles was facilely constructed via in-situ polyaniline coating of carbonized steamed cake prior to the carbonization process. The resultant product was determined to be an excellent freestanding anode that enabled the microbial fuel cell to deliver a maximum power density of up to 1307 mW/m 2 , which significantly outperformed its non-coated counterpart, the widely used commercial carbon felt. Further investigations revealed that the overall performance enhancement was associated with the open porosity, enlarged electroactive surface, increased biocompatibility, and decreased electric resistance of the anode scaffold. Ionic liquids-based microwave-assisted hydrolysis was successfully applied for hydrolysis of puerarin and daidzein derivatives from Radix Puerariae Lobatae extract. The ionic liquids with different cations and anions have been investigated, and [Omim]HSO 4 was selected as catalyst. In addition, the hydrolysis parameters, including catalyst quantity, ionic liquids concentration, microwave power and microwave time, were optimized by Response Surface Methodology. The optimal conditions were as follows: 0.82 mol/L [Omim]HSO 4 ; catalyst quantity, 1.42 mL; microwave time, 7 min; microwave power, 400 W. Under those condition the average hydrolysis efficiency of puerarin and daidzein derivatives was 57.93 ± 3.08%. Compared with the traditional acidic catalysts, the [Omim]HSO 4 exhibited higher efficiency, which demonstrates that ionic liquids-based microwave-assisted hydrolysis was a rapid, efficient, and simple hydrolysis technique., (Copyright © 2017. Magnetic metal nanostructures have exhibited good electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption properties. However, the surface of the nanostructures is easily oxidized upon exposure to air, leading to the bad stability of the EMW absorption properties. We use metal-organic framework structure as a template to fabricate hollow N-doped carbon polyhedron containing CoNi alloy nanoparticles embedded within N-doped graphene (CoNi@NG-NCPs). The atomic ratio of Co/Ni can be tuned from 1:0.54 to 1:0.91 in the hollow CoNi@NG-NCPs. Experimental results demonstrate that the EMW absorption properties of the CoNi@NG-NCPs can be improved through the Ni introduction and increased with an increase of the Ni content. Typically, the minimal reflection loss of the optimal CoNi@NG-NCP can reach -24.03 dB and the effective absorption bandwidth (reflection loss below -10 dB) is as large as 4.32 GHz at the thickness of 2.5 mm. Furthermore, our CoNi@NG-NCPs exhibit favorably comparable or superior EMW absorption properties to other magnetic absorbers. In addition, because the CoNi alloy nanoparticles are coated with N-doped graphene layers, their surface oxidation behavior can be efficiently limited. The mechanism of the enhanced EMW absorption property is relevant to the enhanced dielectric loss and better impedance matching characteristic caused by the Ni incorporation.

Lithium hydroxide monohydrate based thermochemical heat storage materials were modified with in situ formed 3D-nickel-carbon nanotubes (Ni-CNTs). The nanoscale (5-15 nm) LiOH·H 2 O particles were well dispersed in the composite formed with Ni-CNTs. These composite materials exhibited improved heat storage capacity, thermal conductivity, and hydration rate owing to hydrogen bonding between H 2 O and hydrophilic groups on the surface of Ni-CNTs, as concluded from combined results of in situ DRIFT spectroscopy and heat storage performance test. The introduction of 3D-carbon nanomaterials leads to a considerable decrease in the activation energy for the thermochemical reaction process. This phenomenon is probably due to Ni-CNTs providing an efficient hydrophilic reaction interface and exhibiting a surface effect on the hydration reaction. Among the thermochemical materials, Ni-CNTs-LiOH·H 2 O-1 showed the lowest activation energy (23.3 kJ mol -1 ), the highest thermal conductivity (3.78 W m -1 K -1 ) and the highest heat storage density (3935 kJ kg -1 ), which is 5.9 times higher than that of pure lithium hydroxide after the same hydration time. The heat storage density and the thermal conductivity of Ni-CNTs-LiOH·H 2 O are much higher than 1D MWCNTs and 2D graphene oxide modified LiOH·H 2 O. Herein we develop a facile strategy for fabricating nickel particle encapsulated in few-layer nitrogen-doped graphene supported by graphite carbon sheets as a high-performance electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbing material. The obtained material exhibits sheetlike morphology with a lateral length ranging from a hundred nanometers to 2 μm and a thickness of about 23 nm. Nickel nanoparticles with a diameter of approximately 20 nm were encapsulated in about six layers of nitrogen-doped graphene. As applied for electromagnetic absorbing material, the heteronanostructures exhibit excellent electromagnetic wave absorption property, comparable to most EMW absorbing materials previously reported. Typically, the effective absorption bandwidth (the frequency region falls within the reflection loss below -10 dB) is up to 8.5 GHz at the thicknesses of 3.0 mm for the heteronanostructures with the optimized Ni content. Furthermore, two processes, carbonization at a high temperature and subsequent treatment in hot acid solution, were involved in the preparation of the heteronanostructures, and thus, mass production was achieved easily, facilitating their practical applications.
