Tumor itself is a complex microecosystem, with complex spatio-temporal dynamics and multi-dimensional interactions. Its unimaginable heterogeneity and evolvability have exceeded the cognition of traditional oncology medicine. How to systematically characterize the whole tumor cell ecosystem from the dynamics and interaction of material, energy and signal levels, in order to explore new cognition, new rules and new therapies for the occurrence and development of tumors, is a new proposition and goal of tumor ecology. In this review, we discuss the origin, occurrence and development of tumors from the perspective of evolutionary ecology. First, we discuss the application of some classical concepts of ecology with tumor evolution. Subsequently, through the integration of the frontier papers of tumor ecology, we highlight the importance of ecological interactions on the occurrence and development of tumors from multiple levels, such as between cancer cells, between cancer cells and other normal somatic cells, and the tumor ecosystem. Finally, we propose the concept of tumor cell ecosystem, discussed how to characterize the entire tumor ecosystem from the system theory and proposed possible innovative treatment directions.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a common and lethal urinary malignancy characterized by its resistance to apoptosis. Despite the emerging treatment options available for ccRCC, only a small proportion of patients achieve long-term survival benefits. Previous studies have demonstrated that inducing tumor cell senescence, followed by treatment using senolytics, represents a potential strategy for triggering tumor cell apoptosis. However, it remains unclear whether this strategy is suitable for the treatment of ccRCC. Using the whole-genome CRISPR screening database Dependency Map portal (DepMap), we identified ribonucleotide reductase family member 2 (RRM2), which catalyzes the conversion of ribonucleotides to deoxyribonucleotides (dNTPs), as an essential targetable gene for ccRCC. Herein, we report that the combination of the choleretic drug osalmid targeting RRM2 and the senolytic compound navitoclax targeting BCL-XL represents a novel therapeutic approach for ccRCC. Furthermore, we have validated this approach across a panel of human ccRCC cells with different genetic backgrounds and multiple preclinical models, including cell line-derived xenografts (CDX), patient-derived xenografts (PDX), and patient-derived organoids (PDO). Cepharanthine (CEP) is a natural remedy that potently inhibits SARS-CoV-2 activity both in vitro and in vivo. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of CEP compared with placebo in adults with asymptomatic or mild coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), we conducted a proof-of-concept, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial. Patients were randomized to receive 120 mg/day of CEP, 60 mg/day CEP or placebo for 5 days. Main outcome was the time from randomization to negative nasopharyngeal swab and safety. Among 262 randomized participants, 188 completed the trial among group of 120 mg/day CEP (n = 65), 60 mg/day CEP (n = 68) and placebo (n = 55). Neither 120 mg/day or 60 mg/day CEP shortened the time to negative significantly compared with placebo. However, 60 mg/day CEP showed a slight trend (difference=-0.77 days, hazard ratio (HR) = 1.40, 95% CI 0.97-2.01, p = 0.072). In analysis of participants with good medication compliance, 60 mg/day CEP significantly shortened the time to negative (difference=-0.87 days, HR = 1.56, 95% CI 1.03-2.37, p = 0.035). Adverse events were not different among the three groups, and no serious adverse events occurred. In conclusion, treatment of asymptomatic or mild Covid-19 with 120 mg/day or 60 mg/day did not shorten the time to negative significantly. Biological materials, such as bamboo, are naturally optimized composites with exceptional mechanical properties. Inspired by such natural composites, traditional methods involve extracting nanofibers from natural sources and applying them in composite materials, which, however, often results in less ideal mechanical properties. To address this, this study develops a bottom-up nanofiber assembly strategy to create strong fiber-reinforced composite hydrogels inspired by the hierarchical assembly of bamboo. Self-assembled chitosan-sodium alginate nanofibers (CSNFs) are combined with tannic acid (TA) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as the interfacial crosslinker and hydrogel matrix, respectively, to emulate the fundamental cellulose-lignin-hemicellulose composition unit of bamboo. Strong interfacial electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding form between the functional groups of these components. These molecular interactions can be further reinforced by constructing higher-order structure through stretch-induced orientation. The resulting composite hydrogel achieves good mechanical performance, including a high tensile strength of up to 60.2 MPa and a simultaneous high strength of 48.0 MPa and ultimate strain of 470%. This approach demonstrates a hierarchical bottom-up strategy to construct strong and robust composite hydrogels by effectively leveraging fundamental molecular interactions. Lattice metamaterials emerge as advanced architected materials with superior physical properties and significant potential for lightweight applications. Recent developments in additive manufacturing (AM) techniques facilitate the manufacturing of lattice metamaterials with intricate microarchitectures and promote their applications in multi-physical scenarios. Previous reviews on lattice metamaterials have largely focused on a specific/single physical field, with limited discussion on their multi-physical properties, interaction mechanisms, and multifunctional applications. Accordingly, this article critically reviews the design principles, structure-mechanism-property relationships, interaction mechanisms, and multifunctional applications of multi-physical lattice metamaterials enabled by AM techniques. First, lattice metamaterials are categorized into homogeneous lattices, inhomogeneous lattices, and other forms, whose design principles and AM processes are critically discussed, including the benefits and drawbacks of different AM techniques for fabricating different types of lattices. Subsequently, the structure-mechanism-property relationships and interaction mechanisms of lattice metamaterials in a range of physical fields, including mechanical, acoustic, electromagnetic/optical, and thermal disciplines, are summarized to reveal critical design principles. Moreover, the multifunctional applications of lattice metamaterials, such as sound absorbers, insulators, and manipulators, sensors, actuators, and soft robots, thermal management, invisible cloaks, and biomedical implants, are enumerated. Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is prevalent, yet its management remains challenging. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture combined with moxibustion versus other standard treatments in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) based on randomized controlled trials (RCTs)., Methods: Searches were conducted in Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials to retrieve relevant RCTs. Data on baseline characteristics, treatment efficacy, and adverse events were extracted. The analysis utilized pooled weighted mean differences (WMD) and risk ratios (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to assess the superior treatment modality., Results: A total of 18 RCTs were included. Acupuncture combined with moxibustion demonstrated significant improvement in the visual analog scale (VAS) for pain and the long-term (> 60 weeks) Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scores for pain, stiffness, and physical function compared to other treatments. In contrast, short- (< 4 weeks) and mid-term (6-60 weeks) WOMAC outcomes for pain, stiffness, and physical function indicated varied results. The overall efficacy rate also favored the combined therapy significantly in the short- and mid-term evaluations. Notably, this therapy was associated with fewer adverse events., Conclusion: The meta-analysis reveals that acupuncture combined with moxibustion is notably more effective and safer than other treatment modalities for KOA, particularly during mid- and long-term follow-up periods., Competing Interests: Declarations. Soft conductive gels are essential for epidermal electronics but often face challenges when interfacing with uneven surfaces or areas with extensive hair, especially under mechanical stress. In this study, we employed the concept of liquid-to-solid transformation to enhance integration at biointerfaces and designed an in-situ biogel capable of rapidly transitioning between liquid and solid states within 3 min via a temperature switch. The biogel features a semi-interpenetrating polymer network design and dual conduction pathways, resulting in high tensile strength (~1-3 MPa), a skin-compatible modulus (~0.3-1.1 MPa), strong skin adhesive strength (~1 MPa), and superior signal-to-noise ratio (SNR, ~30-40 dB). The biogel demonstrates significant performance in mechanically demanding environments, showing potential for accurately capturing outdoor exercise data, monitoring muscle recovery from sports-induced fatigue, and in vivo monitoring of cardiac physiological signals. Nickel-rich layered oxide with high reversible capacity and high working potentials is a prevailing cathode for high-energy-density all-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLBs). However, compared to the liquid battery system, ASSLBs suffer from poor Li-ion migration kinetics, severe side reactions, and undesired formation of space charge layers, which result in restricted capacity release and limited rate capability. In this work, we reveal that the capacity loss lies in the H2-H3 phase transition period, and we propose that the inconsistent interfacial Li-ion migration is the arch-criminal. We introduce Si doping to stabilize the bulk structure and Li 4 SiO 4 fast ionic conductor coating to regulate the interfacial behaviors between the Ni-rich cathode and sulfide-based solid electrolyte Li 6 PS 5 Cl. The modified NCM@LSO-2||LPSCl||Li-In ASSLBs deliver a high reversible capacity of 183.5 mA h g -1 at 0.1C, 30.3% higher than the bare NCM811 electrode. Besides, the interfacial regulation strategy enables the operation at a high rate of 5.0C and achieves a high capacity retention ratio of ∼85.8% after 500 cycles at 1.0C. Furthermore, the underlying mechanisms are well investigated through kinetic analyses and theoretical simulations. This work provides an in-depth understanding on the interfacial degradations between Ni-rich cathodes and sulfide-based all-solid-state electrolytes from the view of kinetic limitations and offers potential solutions.

The diagnosis and surveillance of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) remains a clinical challenge. The high and specific expression of the cluster of differentiation 70 (CD70) in ccRCC makes it a potential diagnostic and therapeutic target. Methods: We detected and analyzed CD70 expression in various renal cell carcinomas (RCCs) and normal kidneys using immunohistochemical staining. Two novel CD70-specific single-domain antibodies, RCCB3 and RCCB6, were produced and labeled with 68 Ga to develop radiotracers. We performed immuno-PET/CT imaging with [ 68 Ga]Ga-NOTA-RCCB3 and [ 68 Ga]Ga-NOTA-RCCB6 in subcutaneous ccRCC patient-derived xenograft models. We recruited 8 RCC patients in a pilot clinical trial (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT06148220) to evaluate the diagnostic utility of [ 68 Ga]Ga-NOTA-RCCB3 and [ 68 Ga]Ga-NOTA-RCCB6 immuno-PET/CT. Results: Expression of CD70 is associated with sex, tumor differentiation, tumor thrombus, necrosis, distant metastasis, and overall survival of RCC patients. RCCB3 and RCCB6 had high affinities for recombinant human CD70. Immuno-PET/CT imaging with [ 68 Ga]Ga-NOTA-RCCB3 and [ 68 Ga]Ga-NOTA-RCCB6 rapidly visualized subcutaneous ccRCC with clarity. Tumor uptake of [ 68 Ga]Ga-NOTA-RCCB6 was significantly reduced after the blockade of CD70. [ 68 Ga]Ga-NOTA-RCCB6 PET/CT in ccRCC patients outperformed traditional 18 F-FDG PET/CT in specifically identifying CD70-positive ccRCC metastases. Conclusion: CD70-targeted immuno-PET/CT imaging with [ 68 Ga]Ga-NOTA-RCCB6 or [ 68 Ga]Ga-NOTA-RCCB3 is a precise and superior method for evaluating tumor burden and suspected metastases in ccRCC patients. Despite their clinical success, stem cells (SCs) in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) are limited by lower retention efficiency and restricted paracrine function. The development of effective SCs culture and delivery systems to maintain or promote SCs paracrine function is urgently needed. In this study, we focused on gelatin microcarriers with different sizes as SCs culture scaffold for OA therapy. The effect of culturing adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) on different size microcarriers (180 μm and 320 μm) to promote paracrine function was evaluated. The secretome of ADSCs cultured on microcarriers more effectively regulated macrophages and chondrocytes in a direction favorable to OA healing compared to culture plates. In particular, microcarriers with ADSCs effectively reduced the coefficient of friction at the cartilage interface. Injection low-dose ADSCs without and with different size microcarriers into the knee joints in rats' OA model was achieved. Even better OA therapeutic effects were achieved by using smaller size (higher curvature) microcarriers to deliver ADSCs at low doses. Alloying-type anode materials are considered promising candidates for next-generation alkali-ion batteries. However, they face significant challenges owing to severe volume variations and sluggish kinetics, which hinder their practical applications. To address these issues, we propose a universal synthetic strategy, which can realize the facile synthesis of various alloying-type anode materials composed of a porous carbon matrix with uniformly embedded nanoparticles (Sb, Bi, or Sn). Besides, we construct the interactions among active materials, electrolyte compositions, and the resulting interface chemistries. This understanding assists in establishing balanced kinetics and stability. As a result, the fabricated battery cells based on the above strategy demonstrate high reversible capacity (515.6 mAh g -1 ), long cycle life (200 cycles), and excellent high-rate capability (at 5.0 C). Additionally, it shows improved thermal stability at 45 and 60 °C. Moreover, our alloying-type anodes exhibit significant potential for constructing a 450 Wh kg -1 battery system. The clinical diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is constantly evolving. Diagnostic imaging of RCC relying on enhanced computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is commonly used for renal mass characterization and assessment of tumour thrombosis, whereas pathology is the gold standard for establishing diagnosis. However, molecular imaging is rapidly improving the clinical management of RCC, particularly clear-cell RCC. Molecular imaging aids in the non-invasive visualization and characterization of specific biomarkers such as carbonic anhydrase IX and CD70 within the tumours, which help to assess tumour heterogeneity and status. Developing versatile ionoelastomers, the alternatives to hydrogels and ionogels, will boost the advancement of high-performance ionotronic devices. However, meeting the requirements of bio-derivation, high toughness, high stretchability, autonomous self-healing ability, high ionic conductivity, reprocessing, and favorable recyclability in a single ionoelastomer remains a challenging endeavor. Herein, a dynamic covalent and supramolecular design, lipoic acid (LA)-based dynamic covalent ionoelastomer (DCIE), is proposed via melt building covalent adaptive networks with hierarchically dynamic bonding (CAN-HDB), wherein lithium bonds aid in the dissociation of ions and the integration of dynamic disulfide metathesis, lithium bonds, and binary hydrogen bonds enhances the mechanical performances, self-healing capability, reprocessing, and recyclability. Therefore, the trade-off among mechanical versatility, ionic conductivity, self-healing capability, reprocessing, and recyclability is successfully handled. The obtained DCIE demonstrates remarkable stretchability (1011.7%), high toughness (3877 kJ m -3 ), high ionic conductivity (3.94 × 10 -4  S m -1 ), outstanding self-healing capability, reprocessing for 3D printing, and desirable recyclability. Significantly, the selective ion transport endows the DCIE with multisensory feature capable of generating continuous electrical signals for high-quality sensations towards temperature, humidity, and strain. Lattice materials are an emerging family of advanced engineering materials with unique advantages for lightweight applications. However, the mechanical behaviors of lattice materials at ultra-low relative densities are still not well understood, and this severely limits their lightweighting potential. Here, a high-precision micro-laser powder bed fusion technique is dveloped that enables the fabrication of metallic lattices with a relative density range much wider than existing studies. This technique allows to confirm that cubic lattices in compression undergo a yielding-to-buckling failure mode transition at low relative densities, and this transition fundamentally changes the usual strength ranking from plate > shell > truss at high relative densities to shell > plate > truss or shell > truss > plate at low relative densities. More importantly, it is shown that increasing bending energy ratio in the lattice through imperfections such as slightly-corrugated geometries can significantly enhance the stability and strength of lattice materials at ultra-low relative densities. Ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation causes various irreversible damages to human skin, so the research about UVA-specific sensing device is urgent. 2D black phosphorus (BP) is used in many photosensors due to its advantages of high carrier mobility and tunable bandgap, but its application for UVA-specific photosensor is not reported. Here, a MXene-BP/Zinc oxide (ZnO) hybrid structure with lamellar-spherical interfaces like finger lime fruit is prepared by the layer-by-layer assembly (LLA) method, and p-n junctions are constructed between BP and ZnO with the Ti 3 C 2 T x electrode, showing excellent photoelectric performance. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate that the enhanced performance is attributed to the rapid separation of photogenerated carriers in the presence of a built-in electric field at interface. Furthermore, a flexible MXene-BP/ZnO based UVA-specific photosensor is prepared, which shows a specific response to UVA as high as 7 mA W -1 and excellent mechanical stability, maintaining 98.46% response after 100 bending cycles. In particular, the integrated anti-UVA skin protection device shows excellent UVA-specific identification and wireless transmission capability, which can provide timely UVA exposure information and skin protection warning for the visually impaired. Visual affordance grounding aims to segment all possible interaction regions between people and objects from an image/video, which benefits many applications, such as robot grasping and action recognition. Prevailing methods predominantly depend on the appearance feature of the objects to segment each region of the image, which encounters the following two problems: 1) there are multiple possible regions in an object that people interact with and 2) there are multiple possible human interactions in the same object region. To address these problems, we propose a hand-aided affordance grounding network (HAG-Net) that leverages the aided clues provided by the position and action of the hand in demonstration videos to eliminate the multiple possibilities and better locate the interaction regions in the object. Specifically, HAG-Net adopts a dual-branch structure to process the demonstration video and object image data. For the video branch, we introduce hand-aided attention to enhance the region around the hand in each video frame and then use the long short-term memory (LSTM) network to aggregate the action features. For the object branch, we introduce a semantic enhancement module (SEM) to make the network focus on different parts of the object according to the action classes and utilize a distillation loss to align the output features of the object branch with that of the video branch and transfer the knowledge in the video branch to the object branch. Quantitative and qualitative evaluations on two challenging datasets show that our method has achieved state-of-the-art results for affordance grounding. Background: Anxiety refers to the pathological persistence and intensification of emotional responses to danger, affecting health from psychological and physical aspects. Serotonin is an important neurotransmitter involved in the onset of anxiety., Methods and Results: To explore the biological changes in the formation of anxiety in crustaceans under the regulation of serotonin, we applied the open field-like test method for assessing anxiety states of larval Portunus trituberculatus , a highly aggressive crustacean species with a more simple neural structure compared with rodents and mammals. Compared with the control group, serotonin treatment resulted in a significant decrease in the time spent by the larvae in the central zone, suggesting anxiety-like behavior. Clonazepam treatment reversed this result and provided further evidence that the behavior of larval P. trituberculatus displayed anxiety. Moreover, a non-targeted metabolomic analysis found a significant alteration in the metabolites involved in tryptophan metabolism pathways associated with anxiety, including L-kynurenine, N-acetyl serotonin, and serotonin. These metabolites are involved in the serotonin pathway, the kynurenine pathway, and other pathways that affect anxiety through tryptophan metabolism. There were no significant differences in tryptophan metabolism levels between the control and clonazepam treatment groups., Conclusions: Our results demonstrate the possible existence of anxiety-like behavior in the larvae of P. trituberculatus from two perspectives. Being a species with a simpler neural structure than that of mammals, the larvae of P. trituberculatus offer a convenient model for studying the mechanisms of anxiety in crustaceans.

Utilizing the framework of environmental health risk assessment and healing, the article reviews the effectiveness and potential of green space systems in mitigating the impact of high temperatures, promoting mental health, and improving the risk characteristics of high-temperature heat waves. We utilized CiteSpace software to conduct a time-zone analysis of the relationship between heatwaves, green spaces, and health using clustered data from 2001 to 2023. This study evaluates the role of green space systems in mitigating high temperatures and enhancing mental health within the environmental health risk assessment framework. Using CiteSpace software, we analyzed literature from 2001 to 2023, focusing on the interactions among heatwaves, green spaces, and health. Our results indicate that most existing research concentrates on hazard identification, with insufficient exploration of the dose-response relationships between green spaces and temperature reduction. Quantitative studies on green space design and spatial optimization are scarce, and guidance on effective configurations remains limited. Additionally, the health impacts of heatwaves vary by region, with a noticeable imbalance in research focus; Asia and Africa, in particular, are underrepresented in studies addressing heatwave effects. We conclude that effective mitigation strategies require: (1) a comprehensive environmental health risk assessment framework that integrates advanced methods like big data analysis and geospatial simulations to improve green space planning and design; (2) further theoretical exploration into the mechanisms by which green spaces regulate temperature and mental health, including detailed analysis of spatiotemporal patterns and the functional optimization of green space structures; and (3) the development of robust parameterized design guidance based on specific therapeutic dosages (green space stimulus) to optimize configurations and enhance the effectiveness of green spaces in mitigating adverse mental health impacts from deteriorating thermal environments. Background: Lung cancer is one of the most frequent cancers and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide with poor prognosis. A disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs 4 (ADAMTS4) is crucial in the regulation of the extracellular matrix (ECM), impacting its formation, homeostasis and remodeling, and has been linked to cancer progression. However, the specific involvement of ADAMTS4 in the development of lung cancer remains unclear., Methods: ADAMTS4 expression was identified in human lung cancer samples by immunohistochemical (IHC) staining and the correlation of ADAMTS4 with clinical outcome was determined. The functional impact of ADAMTS4 on malignant phenotypes of lung cancer cells was explored both in vitro and in vivo. The mechanisms underlying ADAMTS4-mediated lung cancer progression were explored by ubiquitination-related assays., Results: Our study revealed a significant upregulation of ADAMTS4 at the protein level in lung cancer tissues compared to para-carcinoma normal tissues. High ADAMTS4 expression inversely correlated with the prognosis of lung cancer patients. Knockdown of ADAMTS4 inhibited the proliferation and migration of lung cancer cells, as well as the tubule formation of HUVECs, while ADAMTS4 overexpression exerted opposite effects. Mechanistically, we found that ADAMTS4 stabilized c-Myc by inhibiting its ubiquitination, thereby promoting the in vitro and in vivo growth of lung cancer cells and inducing HUVECs tubule formation in lung cancer. In addition, our results suggested that ADAMTS4 overexpression activated MAPK signaling pathway., Conclusions: We highlighted the promoting role of ADAMTS4 in lung cancer progression and proposed ADAMTS4 as a promising therapeutic target for lung cancer patients., (© 2024. Unconventional 1T'-phase transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have aroused tremendous research interest due to their unique phase-dependent physicochemical properties and applications. However, due to the metastable nature of 1T'-TMDs, the controlled synthesis of 1T'-TMD monolayers (MLs) with high phase purity and stability still remains a challenge. Here we report that 4H-Au nanowires (NWs), when used as templates, can induce the quasi-epitaxial growth of high-phase-purity and stable 1T'-TMD MLs, including WS 2 , WSe 2 , MoS 2 and MoSe 2 , via a facile and rapid wet-chemical method. The as-synthesized 4H-Au@1T'-TMD core-shell NWs can be used for ultrasensitive surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) detection. For instance, the 4H-Au@1T'-WS 2 NWs have achieved attomole-level SERS detections of Rhodamine 6G and a variety of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike proteins. Purpose: To investigate and analyse the status quo of the self-management of patients living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) and its influencing factors and to provide the basis for formulating intervention strategies., Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 300 PLWHA who visited the Infection Center of Beijing Youan Hospital, Capital Medical University between September 2021 and December 2021 were enrolled using the convenience sampling method. Demographic characteristics and disease-related data were collected for each participant. The HIV/AIDS Self-Management Scale was used to evaluate the self-management ability of PLWHA., Results: A total of 251 male and 49 female PLWHA were included in this study, with an average age of 39.08 ± 12.09 years and an average disease duration of 9.61 ± 37.04 months. Univariate analysis showed that the PLWHA's place of residence, educational level, physical condition, family relations, duration of HIV disease, receipt or not of antiviral therapy and knowledge of disease had an influence on the scores of the HIV Self-Management Scale (all p < 0.05). The results of the self-management scores indicated that the total score for self-management was 41.5 ± 6.4 points, with a scoring rate of 69.6%, which was at a medium level. Long-term self-management had the highest scoring rate (12.2 ± 2.5 points), followed by daily health management (22.3 ± 4.3 points), and social support for self-management had the lowest scoring (5.1 ± 0.9 points). Multivariable analysis showed that the self-management ability of PLWHA was related to educational level, duration of disease and family relations ( R 2 = 0.67, F = 121.7, p < 0.05)., Conclusion: The self-management level of patients with AIDS, especially the social support of daily health management and self-management, needs to be further improved. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a substantial pathology of the urinary system with a growing prevalence rate. However, current clinical methods have limitations for managing RCC due to the heterogeneity manifestations of the disease. Metabolic analyses are regarded as a preferred noninvasive approach in clinics, which can substantially benefit the characterization of RCC. This study constructs a nanoparticle-enhanced laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (NELDI MS) to analyze metabolic fingerprints of renal tumors (n = 456) and healthy controls (n = 200). The classification models yielded the areas under curves (AUC) of 0.938 (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.884-0.967) for distinguishing renal tumors from healthy controls, 0.850 for differentiating malignant from benign tumors (95% CI, 0.821-0.915), and 0.925-0.932 for classifying subtypes of RCC (95% CI, 0.821-0.915). For the early stage of RCC subtypes, the averaged diagnostic sensitivity of 90.5% and specificity of 91.3% in the test set is achieved. Metabolic biomarkers are identified as the potential indicator for subtype diagnosis (p < 0.05). To validate the prognostic performance, a predictive model for RCC participants and achieve the prediction of disease (p = 0.003) is constructed. 3D-printed bioceramic scaffolds offer great potential for bone tissue engineering (BTE) but their inherent brittleness and reduced mechanical properties at high porosities can easily result in catastrophic fractures. Herein, this study presents a hierarchical hydrogel impregnation strategy, incorporating poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogel into the macro- and micropores of bioceramic scaffolds and synergistically reinforcing it via freeze-casting assisted solution substitution (FASS) in a tannic acid (TA)-glycerol solution. By effectively mitigating catastrophic brittle failures, the hydrogel-impregnated scaffolds showcase three- and 100-fold enhancement in mechanical energy absorption under compression (5.05 MJ m -3 ) and three-point bending (3.82 MJ m -3 ), respectively. The reinforcement mechanisms are further investigated by experimental and simulation analyses, revealing a multi-scale synergy of fracture and fragmentation resistance through macro and micro-scale fiber bridging, and nano and molecular-scale hydrogel reinforcement. Also, the scaffolds acquire additional antibacterial and drug-loading capabilities from the hydrogel phase while maintaining favorable cell biocompatibility. The regulation of the crystal structure of oxygen evolution cocatalyst (OEC) is a promising strategy for enhancing the photoelectrochemical efficiency of photoanodes. However, the prevailing regulating approach typically requires a multistep procedure, presenting a significant challenge for maintaining the structural integrity and performance of the photoanode. Herein, FeOOH with a local disordered structure is directly grown on a CdIn 2 S 4 (CIS) photoanode via a simple and mild sonochemical approach. By modulating the localized supersaturation of Ni ions, ultrasonic cavitation induces Ni ions to participate in the nucleation and growth of FeOOH clusters to cause local disorder of FeOOH. Consequently, the local disordered FeOOH facilitates the exposure of additional active sites, boosting OER kinetics and extending charge carrier lifetimes. Finally, the optimal photoanode reaches 4.52 mA cm -2 at 1.23 V RHE , and the onset potential shifts negatively by 330 mV, exhibiting excellent performance compared with that of other metal sulfide-based photoelectrodes reported thus far. They have also been found to regulate stem cell proliferation and induct bone differentiation. Periodontal ligament stem cells are essential for the regeneration of periodontal tissue. In recent years, in the field of stomatology, studies have found that many non-coding RNA also have significant regulatory effects on the proliferation and differentiation of periodontal stem cells and may become potential therapeutic targets for many common periodontal diseases such as periodontitis, bone/tooth/soft tissue loss and orthodontic treatment. Color-selective photodetectors (PDs) play an indispensable role in spectral recognition, image sensing, and other fields. Nevertheless, complex filters and delicate optical paths in such devices significantly increase their complexity and size, which subsequently impede their integration in smart optoelectronic chips for universal applications. This work demonstrates the successful fabrication of filter-less color-selective perovskite PDs by integrating three perovskite units with different photoresponse on a single chip. The variation in photoresponse is attributed to different quantities of SnO 2 nanoparticles, synthesized through controlled ultrasonic treatment on the surface of the electron transportation layer SnS 2 , which selectively absorb short-wavelength light, thus increasing the relative transmittance of long-wavelength light and enhancing the photoresponse of the units to long wavelengths. By integrating any two units and deriving the formula for the wavelength to the responsivity ratio, a wavelength sensor is developed which can accurately identify incident light in the range of 400-700 nm with a minimum error <3 nm. Furthermore, the device integrating three units with different photoresponse can identify red, green and blue in polychromatic light to achieve color imaging with a relative error <6%. The safety of energy storage devices is increasingly crucial due to the growing requirements for application under harsh conditions. Effective methods for enhancing robustness without compromising functionality are necessary. Here we present an impact-resistant, ready-to-use supercapacitor constructed from self-healable hydrogel electrolyte-infused lattice electrodes. Three-dimensional-printed carbon-coated silicon oxycarbide current collectors provide mechanical protection, with compressive stress, Young's modulus, and energy absorption up to 70.61 MPa, 2.75 GPa, and 92.15 kJ/m 3 , respectively. Commercially viable polyaniline and self-healable polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel are used as active coatings and electrolytes. I-wrapped package structured supercapacitor electrode exhibits a static specific capacitance of 585.51 mF/cm 3 at 3 mA/cm 3 , with an energy density of 97.63 μWh/cm 3 at a power density of 0.5 mW/cm 3 . It maintains operational integrity under extreme conditions, including post-impact with energy of 0.3 J/cm 3 , dynamic loading ranging from 0 to 18.83 MPa, and self-healing after electrolyte damage, demonstrating its promise for applications in extreme environments., (© 2024. Purpose: The cluster of differentiation (CD70) is a potential biomarker of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). This study aims to develop CD70-targeted immuno-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (immunoPET/CT) imaging tracers and explore the diagnostic value in preclinical studies and the potential value in detecting metastases in ccRCC patients., Methods: Four novel CD70-specific single-domain antibodies (sdAbs) were produced and labelled with 18 F by the aluminium fluoride restrained complexing agent (AlF-RESCA) method to develop radiotracers. The visualisation properties of the tracers were evaluated in a subcutaneous ccRCC patient-derived xenograft (PDX) model. In a registered prospective clinical trial (NCT06148220), six patients with pathologically confirmed RCC were included and underwent immunoPET/CT examination exploiting one of the developed tracers (i.e., [ 18 F]RCCB6)., Results: We engineered four sdAbs (His-tagged RCCB3 and RCCB6, His-tag-free RB3 and RB6) specifically targeting recombinant human CD70 without cross-reactivity to murine CD70. ImmunoPET/CT imaging with [ 18 F]RCCB3 and [ 18 F]RCCB6 demonstrated a high tumour-to-background ratio in a subcutaneous ccRCC PDX model, with the latter showing better diagnostic potential supported by higher tumour uptake and lower bone accumulation. In comparison, [ 18 F]RB6, developed by sequence optimisation, has significantly lower kidney accumulation than that of [ 18 F]RCCB6. In a pilot translational study, [ 18 F]RCCB6 immunoPET/CT displayed ccRCC metastases in multiple patients and demonstrated improved imaging contrast and diagnostic value than 18 F-FDG PET/CT in a patient with ccRCC., Conclusion: The work successfully developed a series of CD70-targeted immunoPET/CT imaging tracers. Of them, [ 18 F]RCCB6 clearly and specifically identified inoculated ccRCCs in preclinical studies. Background: A combination of axitinib and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) demonstrated promising efficacy in the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC). This study aims to prospectively evaluate the safety, efficacy, and biomarkers of neoadjuvant toripalimab plus axitinib in non-metastatic clear cell RCC., Methods: This is a single-institution, single-arm phase II clinical trial. Patients with non-metastatic biopsy-proven clear cell RCC (T2-T3N0-1M0) are enrolled. Patients will receive axitinib 5 mg twice daily combined with toripalimab 240 mg every 3 weeks (three cycles) for up to 12 weeks. Patients then will receive partial (PN) or radical nephrectomy (RN) after neoadjuvant therapy. The primary endpoint is objective response rate (ORR). Secondary endpoints include disease-free survival, safety, and perioperative complication rate. Predictive biomarkers are involved in exploratory analysis., Results: A total of 20 patients were enrolled in the study, with 19 of them undergoing surgery. One patient declined surgery. The primary endpoint ORR was 45%. The posterior distribution of πORR had a mean of 0.44 (95% credible intervals: 0.24-0.64), meeting the predefined primary endpoint with an ORR of 32%. Tumor shrinkage was observed in 95% of patients prior to nephrectomy. Furthermore, four patients achieved a pathological complete response. Grade ≥3 adverse events occurred in 25% of patients, including hypertension, hyperglycemia, glutamic pyruvic transaminase/glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (ALT/AST) increase, and proteinuria. Postoperatively, one grade 4a and eight grade 1-2 complications were noted. In comparison to patients with stable disease, responders exhibited significant differences in immune factors such as Arginase 1(ARG1), Melanoma antigen (MAGEs), Dendritic Cell (DC), TNF Superfamily Member 13 (TNFSF13), Apelin Receptor (APLNR), and C-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 3 Like 1 (CCL3-L1). The detection of seismic activity precursors as part of an alarm system will provide opportunities for minimization of the social and economic impact caused by earthquakes. It has long been envisaged, and a growing body of empirical evidence suggests that the Earth's electromagnetic field could contain precursors to seismic events. The ability to capture and monitor electromagnetic field activity has increased in the past years as more sensors and methodologies emerge. Missions such as Swarm have enabled researchers to access near-continuous observations of electromagnetic activity at second intervals, allowing for more detailed studies on weather and earthquakes. In this paper, we present an approach designed to detect anomalies in electromagnetic field data from Swarm satellites. This works towards developing a continuous and effective monitoring system of seismic activities based on SWARM measurements. We develop an enhanced form of a probabilistic model based on the Martingale theories that allow for testing the null hypothesis to indicate abnormal changes in electromagnetic field activity. We evaluate this enhanced approach in two experiments. Firstly, we perform a quantitative comparison on well-understood and popular benchmark datasets alongside the conventional approach. We find that the enhanced version produces more accurate anomaly detection overall. Secondly, we use three case studies of seismic activity (namely, earthquakes in Mexico, Greece, and Croatia) to assess our approach and the results show that our method can detect anomalous phenomena in the electromagnetic data.

Denitrification and anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) are key processes for nitrogen removal in aquaculture, reducing the accumulated nitrogen nutrients to nitrogen gas or nitrous oxide gas. Complete removal of nitrogen from aquaculture systems is an important measure to solve environmental pollution. In order to evaluate the nitrogen removal potential of marine aquaculture ponds, this study investigated the denitrification and anammox rates, the flux of nitrous oxide (N 2 O) at the water-air interface, the sediment microbial community structure, and the gene expression associated with the nitrogen removal process in integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) ponds (Apostistius japonicus-Penaeus japonicus-Ulva) with different culture periods. The results showed that the denitrification and anammox rates in sediments increased with the increase of cultivation periods and depth, and there was no significant difference in nitrous oxide gas flux at the water-air interface between different cultivation periods (p > 0.05). At the genus and phylum levels, the abundance of microorganisms related to nitrogen removal reactions in sediments changed significantly with the increase of cultivation period and depth, and was most significantly affected by the concentration of particulate organic nitrogen (PON) in sediments. The expression of denitrification gene (narG, nirS, nosZ) in surface sediments was significantly higher than that in deep sediments (p < 0.05), and was negatively correlated with denitrification rate. All samples had a certain anammox capacity, but no known anammox bacteria were found in the microbial diversity detection, and the expression of gene (hzsB) related to the anammox process was extremely low, which may indicate the existence of an unknown anammox bacterium. The data of this study showed that the IMTA culture pond had a certain potential for nitrogen removal, and whether it could make a contribution to reducing the pollution of culture wastewater still needed additional practice and evaluation, and also provided a theoretical basis for the nitrogen removal research of coastal mariculture ponds., (© 2024. Current therapeutic options for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) are very limited, which is largely due to inadequate comprehension of molecular pathological mechanisms as well as RCC's resistance to chemotherapy. Dual-specificity phosphatase 6 (DUSP6) has been associated with numerous human diseases. However, its role in RCC is not well understood. Here, we show that diminished DUSP6 expression is linked to RCC progression and unfavorable prognosis. Mechanistically, DUSP6 serves as a tumor suppressor in RCC by intervening the TAF10 and BSCL2 via the ERK-AKT pathway. Further, DUSP6 is also transcriptionally regulated by HNF-4a. Moreover, docking experiments have indicated that DUSP6 expression is enhanced when bound by Calcium saccharate, which also inhibits RCC cell proliferation, metabolic rewiring, and sunitinib resistance. Characterized by periodic cellular unit cells, microlattices offer exceptional potential as lightweight and robust materials. However, their inherent periodicity poses the risk of catastrophic global failure. To address this limitation, a novel approach, that is to introduce microlattices composed of aperiodic unit cells inspired by Einstein's tile, where the orientation of cells never repeats in the same orientation is proposed. Experiments and simulations are conducted to validate the concept by comparing compressive responses of the aperiodic microlattices with those of common periodic microlattices. Indeed, the microlattices exhibit stable and progressive compressive deformation, contrasting with catastrophic fracture of periodic structures. At the same relative density, the microlattices outperform the periodic ones, exhibiting fracture strain, energy absorption, crushing stress efficiency, and smoothness coefficients at least 830%, 300%, 130%, and 160% higher, respectively. These improvements can be attributed to aperiodicity, where diverse failure thresholds exist locally due to varying strut angles and contact modes during compression. This effectively prevents both global fracture and abrupt stress drops. Furthermore, the aperiodic microlattice exhibits good damage tolerance with excellent deformation recoverability, retaining 76% ultimate stress post-recovery at 30% compressive strain. Dynamic range (DR) is a pivotal characteristic of imaging systems. Current frame-based cameras struggle to achieve high dynamic range imaging due to the conflict between globally uniform exposure and spatially variant scene illumination. In this paper, we propose AsynHDR, a pixel-asynchronous HDR imaging system, based on key insights into the challenges in HDR imaging and the unique event-generating mechanism of dynamic vision sensors (DVS). Our proposed AsynHDR system integrates the DVS with a set of LCD panels. The LCD panels modulate the irradiance incident upon the DVS by altering their transparency, thereby triggering the pixel-independent event streams. The HDR image is subsequently decoded from the event streams through our temporal-weighted algorithm. Experiments under the standard test platform and several challenging scenes have verified the feasibility of the system in HDR imaging tasks.

In the realm of photoelectrochemical technology, the enhancement of photogenerated charge carrier separation is pivotal for the advancement of energy conversion performance. Carbon nitride (CN) is established as a photocatalytic material with significant potential and exhibits unique advantages in addressing the issue of rapid recombination of photogenerated carriers. This study utilized an efficient in situ doping method that combined Mo,W-doped BiVO 4 (Mo,W:BVO) with silver-loaded CN (Ag@CN), yielding an all-solid-state Mo,W:BVO/Ag@CN heterostructure that effectively augments the separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs. Through the annealing process, Ag@CN was uniformly coated within the Mo,W:BVO thin film, significantly enlarging the interface contact area to enhance visible light absorption and photogenerated carrier movement. The results of the photoelectrochemical tests showed that the Mo,W:BVO/Ag@CN heterostructure had the highest photocurrent and charge transfer efficiency, which were 6.4 times and 3.6 times higher respectively than those of the unmodified Mo,W:BVO. Our research elucidates the interactions within all-solid-state Z-scheme heterojunctions, outlining strategic approaches for crafting innovative and superior photocatalytic systems.

Recently, certain ferroelectric tunnel junctions (FTJs) exhibit non-volatile modulations on photoresponse as well as tunneling electroresistance (TER) effects related to ferroelectric polarization states. From the opposite perspective, the corresponding polarization states can be read by detecting the levels of the photocurrent. In this study, we fabricate a novel amorphous selenium (a-Se)/PbZr 0.2 Ti 0.8 O 3 (PZT)/Nb-doped SrTiO 3 (NSTO) heterojunction, which exhibits a high TER of 3 × 10 6 . Unlike perovskite oxide FTJs with a limited ultraviolet response, the introduction of a narrow bandgap semiconductor (a-Se) enables self-powered photoresponse within the visible light range. The self-powered photoresponse characteristics can be significantly modulated by ferroelectric polarization. The photocurrent after writing polarization voltages of +4 and -5 V exhibits a 1200% increase. Furthermore, the photocurrent could be clearly distinguished after writing stepwise polarization voltages, and then a multistate information storage is designed with nondestructive readout capacity under light illumination. This work holds great significance in advancing the development of ferroelectric multistate photoelectronic memories with high storage density and expanding the design possibilities for FTJs.

Fabrication of composite hydrogels can effectively enhance the mechanical and functional properties of conventional hydrogels. While ceramic reinforcement is common in many hard biological tissues, ceramic-reinforced hydrogels lack a similar natural prototype for bioinspiration. This raises a key question: How can we still attain bioinspired mechanical mechanisms in composite hydrogels without mimicking a specific composition and structure? Abstracting the hierarchical composite design principles of natural materials, this study proposes a hierarchical fabrication strategy for ceramic-reinforced organo-hydrogels, featuring (1) aligned ceramic platelets through direct-ink-write printing, (2) poly(vinyl alcohol) organo-hydrogel matrix reinforced by solution substitution, and (3) silane-treated platelet-matrix interfaces. Unit filaments are further printed into a selection of bioinspired macro-architectures, leading to high stiffness, strength, and toughness (fracture energy up to 31.1 kJ/m 2 ), achieved through synergistic multi-scale energy dissipation. The materials also exhibit wide operation tolerance and electrical conductivity for flexible electronics in mechanically demanding conditions. Hence, this study demonstrates a model strategy that extends the fundamental design principles of natural materials to fabricate composite hydrogels with synergistic mechanical and functional enhancement., (© 2024. Crystal phase, a critical structural characteristic beyond the morphology, size, dimension, facet, etc. , determines the physicochemical properties of nanomaterials. As a group of layered nanomaterials with polymorphs, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted intensive research attention due to their phase-dependent properties. Therefore, great efforts have been devoted to the phase engineering of TMDs to synthesize TMDs with controlled phases, especially unconventional/metastable phases, for various applications in electronics, optoelectronics, catalysis, biomedicine, energy storage and conversion, and ferroelectrics. Considering the significant progress in the synthesis and applications of TMDs, we believe that a comprehensive review on the phase engineering of TMDs is critical to promote their fundamental studies and practical applications. This Review aims to provide a comprehensive introduction and discussion on the crystal structures, synthetic strategies, and phase-dependent properties and applications of TMDs. Finally, our perspectives on the challenges and opportunities in phase engineering of TMDs will also be discussed.

2D heterostructures are emerging as alternatives to conventional semiconductors, such as silicon, germanium, and gallium nitride, for next-generation electronics and optoelectronics. However, the direct growth of 2D heterostructures, especially for those with metastable phases still remains challenging. To obtain 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) with designed phases, it is highly desired to develop phase-controlled synthetic strategies. Here, a facile chemical vapor deposition method is reported to prepare vertical 1H/1T' MoS 2 heterophase structures. By simply changing the growth atmosphere, semimetallic 1T'-MoS 2 can be in situ grown on the top of semiconducting 1H-MoS 2 , forming vertical semiconductor/semimetal 1H/1T' heterophase structures with a sharp interface. The integrated device based on the 1H/1T' MoS 2 heterophase structure displays a typical rectifying behavior with a current rectifying ratio of ≈10 3 . Moreover, the 1H/1T' MoS 2 -based photodetector achieves a responsivity of 1.07 A W -1 at 532 nm with an ultralow dark current of less than 10 -11 A. The aforementioned results indicate that 1H/1T' MoS 2 heterophase structures can be a promising candidate for future rectifiers and photodetectors. Phytoplankton's death contributes to marine settleable particulate organic matter (POM). In this study, we used laboratory cultivation of different algal species to identify a positive correlation between the cumulative number of dead algal cells and POC >75 (carbon content of the settleable POM). The contribution coefficient of cell death to POC >75 varied among different algal species. Additionally, the field survey and incubation experiment were conducted in the East China Sea (ECS) to explore the spatial-temporal correlation between phytoplankton death and POC >75 . The results concluded that phytoplankton death was the main factor controlling POC >75 . In the ECS, the relationship between the surface cumulative mass of POC >75 and the cumulative number of dead cells followed: Cumulative mass of POC >75 (mg) = 0.487 × Cumulative number of dead cells (/10 4 ) + 0.069. Integration of oxygen vacancies (Vo) into nanostructured semiconductor-based photocatalysts has been recognized as a promising strategy for enhancing the performance of photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. However, precisely controlling the Vo concentration in photocatalysts via an effective and tunable approach remains challenging. Herein, a series of optimized bismuth tungstate (Bi 2 WO 6 ) nanosheet-based photoanodes with varying concentrations of Vo were prepared by a sonochemical method with in situ cavitation detection, which enables accurate manipulation of the acoustic cavitation intensity applied to the surface of Bi 2 WO 6 photoanodes in alkaline solution. Based on the analysis of the Vo concentration and sound field characteristics, the mechanism of sonochemical regulation of Vo in Bi 2 WO 6 nanosheets was interpreted. Specifically, the increase in Vo concentration can be attributed to the enhancement of Bi-O bond dissociation. This enhancement is influenced not only by the intensified impact of shear force and the generation of active radicals by transient cavitation, but also by the accelerated diffusion of the reactant, a result of stable cavitation. By optimizing the transient and stable cavitation intensity, a Vo-rich Bi 2 WO 6 photoanode was obtained without altering the microstructure of Bi 2 WO 6 nanosheets. The presence of high concentration Vo facilitates the interfacial chemical reactivity and the transmission of photogenerated carriers, leading to the drastic promotion of the PEC water splitting performance. The transient photocurrent density of the Vo-rich Bi 2 WO 6 photoanode reaches 69.2 μA cm -2 (1.23 V vs. RHE), 7.86 times that of the untreated Bi 2 WO 6 photoanode. Additionally, the charge injection efficiency increases to 35.4%. This work provides a controllable and effective method for defect engineering of nanostructured semiconductor-based electrodes.

Conductive hydrogels have a remarkable potential for applications in soft electronics and robotics, owing to their noteworthy attributes, including electrical conductivity, stretchability, biocompatibility, etc. However, the limited strength and toughness of these hydrogels have traditionally impeded their practical implementation. Inspired by the hierarchical architecture of high-performance biological composites found in nature, we successfully fabricate a robust and sensitive conductive nanocomposite hydrogel through self-assembly-induced bridge cross-linking of MgB 2 nanosheets and polyvinyl alcohol hydrogels. By combining the hierarchical lamellar microstructure with robust molecular B─O─C covalent bonds, the resulting conductive hydrogel exhibits an exceptional strength and toughness. Moreover, the hydrogel demonstrates exceptional sensitivity (response/relaxation time, 20 milliseconds; detection lower limit, ~1 Pascal) under external deformation. Such characteristics enable the conductive hydrogel to exhibit superior performance in soft sensing applications. This study introduces a high-performance conductive hydrogel and opens up exciting possibilities for the development of soft electronics.

The low mechanical strength of conductive hydrogels (<1 MPa) has been a significant hurdle in their practical application, as they are prone to fracturing under complex conditions, limiting their effectiveness. Here, this work fabricates a strong and tough conductive hierarchical poly(vinyl alcohol) (PEDOT:PSS/PVA) organo-hydrogel (PPS organo-hydrogel) via a facile combining strategy of self-assembly and stretch training. With PVA/PEDOT:PSS microlayers and aligned PVA/PEDOT:PSS nanofibers, PVA and PEDOT:PSS nanocrystalline domains, and semi-interpenetrating polymer networks, PPS organo-hydrogels display outstanding mechanical performances (strength: 54.8 MPa, toughness: 153.97 MJ m -3 ). Additionally, PPS organo-hydrogels also exhibit powerful sensing capabilities (gauge factor (GF): 983) due to the aligned hierarchical structures and organic liquid phase of DMSO. Notably, with the synergy of such mechanical and sensing properties, organo-hydrogels can even detect objects as light as 1 gram, despite bearing a tensile strength of ≈23 MPa. By incorporating these materials into human-machine interfaces, such as controlling artificial arms for grabbing objects and monitoring sport behaviors in soccer training, this work has unlocked a new realm of possibilities for these high-performance hierarchical organo-hydrogels. Background: Further stratification of the risk of recurrence of clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) with venous tumor thrombus (VTT) will facilitate selection of candidates for adjuvant therapy., Objective: To assess the impact of tumor grade discrepancy (GD) between the primary tumor (PT) and VTT in nonmetastatic ccRCC on disease-free survival (DFS), overall survival (OS), and cancer-specific survival (CSS)., Design, Setting, and Participants: This was a retrospective analysis of a multi-institutional nationwide data set for patients with pT3N0M0 ccRCC who underwent radical nephrectomy and thrombectomy., Outcomes Measurements and Statistical Analysis: Pathology slides were centrally reviewed. GD, a bidirectional variable (upgrading or downgrading), was numerically defined as the VTT grade minus the PT grade. Multivariable models were built to predict DFS, OS, and CSS., Results and Limitations: We analyzed data for 604 patients with median follow-up of 42 mo (excluding events). Tumor GD between VTT and PT was observed for 47% (285/604) of the patients and was an independent risk factor with incremental value in predicting the outcomes of interest (all p < 0.05). Incorporation of tumor GD significantly improved the performance of the ECOG-ACRIN 2805 (ASSURE) model. A GD-based model (PT grade, GD, pT stage, PT sarcomatoid features, fat invasion, and VTT consistency) had a c index of 0.72 for DFS. The hazard ratios were 8.0 for GD = +2 (p < 0.001), 1.9 for GD = +1 (p < 0.001), 0.57 for GD = -1 (p = 0.001), and 0.22 for GD = -2 (p = 0.003) versus GD = 0 as the reference. According to model-converted risk scores, DFS, OS, and CSS significantly differed between subgroups with low, intermediate, and high risk (all p < 0.001)., Conclusions: Routine reporting of VTT upgrading or downgrading in relation to the PT and use of our GD-based nomograms can facilitate more informed treatment decisions by tailoring strategies to an individual patient's risk of progression., Patient Summary: We developed a tool to improve patient counseling and guide decision-making on other therapies in addition to surgery for patients with the clear-cell type of kidney cancer and tumor invasion of a vein., (Copyright © 2023 European Association of Urology. A novel doubly interpenetrated indium-organic framework of 1 has been assembled by In 3+ ions and highly conjugated biquinoline carboxylate-based bitopic connectors (H 2 L). The isolated 1 exhibits an anionic framework possessing channel-type apertures repleted with exposed quinoline N atoms and carboxyl O atoms. Owing to the unique architecture, 1 displays a durable photoluminescence effect and fluorescence quenching sensing toward CrO 4 2- , Cr 2 O 7 2- , and Cu 2+ ions with reliable selectivity and anti-interference properties, fairly high detection sensitivity, and rather low detection limits. Ligand-to-ligand charge transition (LLCT) was identified as the essential cause of luminescence by modeling the ground state and excited states of 1 using DFT and TD-DFT. In addition, the negatively charged framework has the ability to rapidly capture single cationic MB, BR14, or BY24 and their mixture, including the talent to trap MB from the (MB + MO) system with high selectivity. Moreover, intrinsic light absorption capacity and band structure feature endow 1 with effective photocatalytic decomposition ability toward reactive dyes RR2 and RB13 under ultraviolet light. Notably, after further polishing the band structure state of 1 by constructing the S-scheme heterojunction of In 2 S 3 / 1 , highly efficient photocatalytic detoxification of Cr(VI) and degradation of reactive dyes have been fully achieved under visible light. This finding may open a new avenue for designing novel multifunctional MOF-based platforms to address some intractable environmental issues, i.e., detection of heavy metal ions, physical capture of pony-sized dyes, and photochemical decontamination of ultrastubborn reactive dyes and highly toxic Cr(VI) ions from water.
