Background: Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED) is a highly contagious disease caused by Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV), resulting in a mortality rate of suckling piglets as high as 100%. Vaccination is the primary strategy for controlling PEDV infection, however, there is currently a lack of reliable methods for assessing the efficacy of vaccination. This study aimed to analyze serum and colostrum samples from 75 parturient sows with a specific vaccination strategy to measure levels of IgG, IgA, and neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) against PEDV, and to investigate the correlation between serum and colostrum antibody levels, as well as to identify potential biomarkers that can be used to evaluate immunization effects under field conditions., Results: The findings of correlation analysis between antibody levels of IgA, IgG, and nAbs in serum or colostrum samples revealed that IgG demonstrated the most robust correlation with nAbs exhibiting a correlation coefficient of 0.64 in serum samples. Conversely, IgA exhibited the highest correlation with nAbs, with a correlation coefficient of 0.47 in colostrum samples. Additionally, the correlation analysis of antibody levels between serum and colostrum samples indicated that serum IgA displayed the strongest correlation with colostrum IgA, with a coefficient of 0.63, indicating that serum IgA may serve as a viable alternative indicator for evaluating IgA levels in colostrum samples. To further evaluate the suitability of serum IgA as a substitute marker for colostrum IgA, levels of IgA antibodies in serum samples from sows were examined both pre- and post-parturition. The findings indicated that serum IgA levels were initially low prior to the initial immunization, experienced a notable rise 21 days after immunization, and maintained a significant elevation compared to pre-immunization levels from 21 days pre-parturition to 14 days postpartum, spanning a total of 35 days., Conclusions: Serum anti-PEDV IgA antibody levels may serve as a valuable predictor for immunization effects, allowing for the assessment of colostrum IgA antibody levels up to 21 days in advance. This insight could enable veterinarians to timely adjust or optimize immunization strategies prior to parturition, thereby ensuring adequate passive immunity is conferred to piglets through colostral transfer postpartum., (© 2024. Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a group of severe genetic bone disorders characterized by congenital low bone mass, deformity, and frequent fractures. Type XV OI is a moderate to severe form of skeletal dysplasia caused by WNT1 variants. In this cohort study from southern China, we summarized the clinical phenotypes of patients with WNT1 variants and found that the proportion of type XV patients was around 10.3% (25 out of 243) with a diverse spectrum of phenotypes. Functional assays indicated that variants of WNT1 significantly impaired its secretion and effective activity, leading to moderate to severe clinical manifestations, porous bone structure, and enhanced osteoclastic activities. Analysis of proteomic data from human skeleton indicated that the expression of SOST (sclerostin) was dramatically reduced in type XV patients compared to patients with COL1A1 quantitative variants. Single-cell transcriptome data generated from human tibia samples of patients diagnosed with type XV OI and leg-length discrepancy, respectively, revealed aberrant differentiation trajectories of skeletal progenitors and impaired maturation of osteocytes with loss of WNT1, resulting in excessive CXCL12+ progenitors, fewer mature osteocytes, and the existence of abnormal cell populations with adipogenic characteristics. The integration of multi-omics data from human skeleton delineates how WNT1 regulates the differentiation and maturation of skeletal progenitors, which will provide a new direction for the treatment strategy of type XV OI and relative low bone mass diseases such as early onset osteoporosis., (© The Author(s) 2024. The rational use of cultivated land can guarantee food security and thus is highly important for ensuring social stability, economic development and national security. The current study investigated the multifunctional temporal and spatial variation characteristics of cultivated land and explored the spatial and temporal characteristics of the multifunction and coupling coordination degrees of cultivated land throughout Hebei Province. Based on the administrative division data, statistical yearbook data and land use status data of the impacted areas, a multifunctional evaluation index system of cultivated land was established. The CRITIC weight method and entropy weight method were used to determine the weight of the index, the comprehensive index model was used to determine the production, social security, ecology and landscape functions of cultivated land of Hebei Province in different periods, the coupling coordination model was used to explore the multifunctional coupling coordination degree of cultivated land in each county, and spatial autocorrelation analysis was performed to determine the correlation of the multifunctional coupling coordination degrees. From 2000 to 2020, the production, social security and landscape function of cultivated land in Hebei Province trended upward; the ecological function trended slightly downward. The multifunctional coupling coordination degree of cultivated land in Hebei Province trended significantly upward and changed from limited coordination to intermediate coordination. Furthermore, it exhibited strong agglomeration and a significant positive spatial correlation, forming a 'V'-type change rule of first decreasing and then increasing. Hebei Province exhibited remarkable spatial and temporal characteristics of the multifunction and coupling coordination degrees of cultivated land. Regions could thus customize different cultivated land functions to maximize the benefits of cultivated land use. Land is the spatial background and basic carrier of human survival and development. The study of land function evaluation at different scales can promote the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature. Taking Fuping County, Hebei Province, China, as an example, this study establishes the theoretical framework of county-level land scale division using a digital elevation model (DEM)-based watershed analysis method and establishes the theory and methodological system of land function evaluation from the perspective of the characteristic scale. The multifunctionality of the land was evaluated using the Carnegie-Ames-Stanford approach (CASA), the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Trade-offs (InVEST) model and comprehensive index evaluation. By using the methods of DEM-based watershed analysis, dominant factor differentiation and layer superposition, a three-level scale system of 'subwatershed scale-land chain scale-land segment scale' and a multifunctional multiscale evaluation index system containing 18 evaluation indices were established. The single-function and multifunction evaluation results of land at different scales were obtained by the comprehensive index method and Getis-Ord Gi* index method. The accuracy of land function evaluation results mainly depends on the selection of the measurement scale. The land measurement scale determined by DEM-based watershed analysis is close to the intrinsic scale of land function evaluation. The scale effect of land function in different temporal and spatial ranges is also evident and shows obvious spatial heterogeneity and difference. Objective: To construct and validate a nomogram model for predicting the risk of 28-day mortality in sepsis patients., Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted. 281 sepsis patients admitted to the department of intensive care unit (ICU) of the 940th Hospital of the Joint Logistics Support Force of PLA from January 2017 to December 2022 were selected as the research subjects. The patients were divided into a training set (197 cases) and a validation set (84 cases) according to a 7 : 3 ratio. The general information, clinical treatment measures and laboratory examination results within 24 hours after admission to ICU were collected. Patients were divided into survival group and death group based on 28-day outcomes. The differences in various data were compared between the two groups. The optimal predictive variables were selected using Lasso regression, and univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors influencing the mortality of sepsis patients and to establish a nomogram model. Receiver operator characteristic curve (ROC curve), calibration curve, decision curve analysis (DCA), and clinical impact curve (CIC) were used to evaluate the nomogram model., Results: Out of 281 cases of sepsis, 82 cases died with a mortality of 29.18%. The number of patients who died in the training and validation sets was 54 and 28, with a mortality of 27.41% and 33.33% respectively. Lasso regression, univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analysis screened for 5 independent predictors associated with 28-day mortality. There were use of vasoactive drugs [odds ratio (OR) = 5.924, 95% confidence interval (95%CI) was 1.244-44.571, P = 0.043], acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II (APACHE II: OR = 1.051, 95%CI was 1.000-1.107, P = 0.050), combined with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS: OR = 17.298, 95%CI was 5.517-76.985, P < 0.001), neutrophil count (NEU: OR = 0.934, 95%CI was 0.879-0.988, P = 0.022) and oxygenation index (PaO 2 /FiO 2 : OR = 0.994, 95%CI was 0.988-0.998, P = 0.017). A nomogram model was constructed using the independent predictive factors mentioned above, ROC curve analysis showed that the AUC of the nomogram model was 0.899 (95%CI was 0.856-0.943) and 0.909 (95%CI was 0.845-0.972) for the training and validation sets respectively. The C-index was 0.900 and 0.920 for the training and validation sets respectively, with good discrimination. The Hosmer-Lemeshoe tests both showed P > 0.05, indicating good calibration. Both DCA and CIC plots demonstrate the model's good clinical utility., Conclusions: The use of vasoactive, APACHE II score, comorbid MODS, NEU and PaO 2 /FiO 2 are independent risk factors for 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis. The nomogram model based on these 5 indicators has a good predictive ability for the occurrence of mortality in sepsis patients.

Controlled-release urea (CRU) fertilizers are widely used in agricultural production to reduce conventional nitrogen (N) fertilization-induced agricultural greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) and improve N use efficiency (NUE). However, the long-term effects of different CRU fertilizers on GHGs and crop yields in vegetable fields remain relatively unexplored. This study investigated the variations in GHG emissions at four growth stages of lettuce in the spring and autumn seasons based on a five-year field experiment in the North China Plain. Four treatments were setup: CK (without N application), U (conventional urea-N application), ON (20% reduction in urea-N application), CRU (20% reduction in polyurethane-coated urea without topdressing), and DCRU (20% reduction in polyurethane-coated urea containing dicyandiamide [DCD] without topdressing). The results show that N application treatments significantly increased the GHG emissions and the lettuce yield and net yield, and DCRU exhibited the lowest N 2 O and CO 2 emissions, the highest lettuce yield and net yield, and the highest lettuce N content of the N application treatments. When compared to U, the N 2 O emission peak under CRU and DCRU treatments was notably decreased and delayed, and their average N 2 O emission fluxes were significantly reduced by 10.20-20.72% and 17.51-29.35%, respectively, leading to a significant reduction in mean cumulative N 2 O emissions during the 2017-2021 period. When compared to U, the CO 2 fluxes of DCRU significantly decreased by 8.0-16.54% in the seedling period, and mean cumulative CO 2 emission decreased by 9.28%. Moreover, compared to U, the global warming potential (GWP) and greenhouse gas intensity (GHGI) of the DCRU treatment was significantly alleviated by 9.02-17.13% and 16.68-20.36%, respectively. Compared to U, the N content of lettuce under DCRU was significantly increased by 6.48-17.25%, and the lettuce net yield was also significantly increased by 5.41-7.71%. These observations indicated that the simple and efficient N management strategy to strike a balance between enhancing lettuce yields and reduce GHG emissions in open-field lettuce fields could be obtained by applying controlled-release urea containing DCD without topdressing.

Background: Scoliosis is widely prevalent among osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) patients, and is progressive with age. However, factors affecting scoliosis in OI are not well known., Methods: We retrospectively retrieved longitudinal radiographic and clinical records of consecutive OI patients seeking treatments at our hospital from 2014 to 2022, graded their pre-operative spinal conditions into four outcome groups, estimated their progression rates, and descriptively and inferentially analyzed the genetic and non-genetic factors that may affect the outcomes and progression rates., Results: In all, 290 OI patients met the inclusion criteria, where 221 had genetic records. Of these 221, about 2/3 had mutations in COL1A1 or COL1A2, followed by mutations in WNT1 (9.0%), IFITM5 (9.0%) and other OI risk genes. With an average age of 12.0 years (interquartile range [IQR] 6.9-16.1), 70.7% of the cohort had scoliosis (Cobb angle > 10°), including 106 (36.5%) mild (10°-25°), 40 (13.8%) moderate (25°-50°), and 59 (20.3%) severe (> 50°) scoliosis patients. Patients with either COL1A1 and COL1A2 were strongly biased toward having mild or no scoliosis, whereas patients with mutations in IFITM5, WNT1 and other recessive genes were more evenly distributed among the four outcome grades. Lower-limb discrepancy, bone mineral density (BMD) and age of first drug used were all significantly correlated with severity outcomes. Using multivariate logistic regression, we estimated that each year older adds an odds ratio of 1.13 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.07-1.2) in progression into advanced stages of scoliosis. We estimated a cohort-wide progression rate of 2.7 degrees per year (95% CI 2.4-3.0). Early-onset patients experienced fast progressions during both infantile and adolescent stages. Twenty-five of the 59 (42.8%) patients with severe scoliosis underwent spinal surgeries, enjoying an average Cobb angle reduction of 33° (IQR 23-40) postoperatively., Conclusion: The severity and progression of scoliosis in osteogenesis imperfecta were affected by genetic factors including genotypes and mutation types, and non-genetic factors including age and BMD. As compared with COL1A1, mutations in COL1A2 were less damaging while those on IFITM5 and other recessive genes conferred damaging effects. Background: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a group of rare skeletal dysplasia. Long bone deformity and scoliosis are often associated with progressively deforming types of OI. FKBP65 (encoded by FKBP10, OMIM *607063) plays a crucial role in the processing of type I procollagen. Autosomal recessive variants in FKBP10 result in type XI osteogenesis imperfecta., Methods: Patients diagnosed with OI were recruited for a genetic test. RT-PCR and Sanger sequencing were applied to confirm the splicing defect in FKBP10 mRNA with the splice-site variant. The bone structure was characterized by Goldner's trichrome staining. Bioinformatic analyses of bulk RNA sequencing data were performed to examine the effect of the FKBP10 variant on gene expression., Results: Here we reported three children from a consanguineous family harboured a homozygous splice-site variant (c.918-3C > G) in FKBP10 intron and developed long bone deformity and early onset of scoliosis. We also observed frequent long bone fractures and spinal deformity in another 3 OI patients with different FKBP10 variants. The homozygous splicing variant identified in the fifth intron of FKBP10 (c.918-3C > G) led to abnormal RNA processing and loss of FKBP65 protein and consequently resulted in aberrant collagen alignment and porous bone morphology. Analysis of transcriptomic data indicated that genes involved in protein processing and osteoblast differentiation were significantly affected in the patient-derived osteoblasts., Conclusion: Our study characterized the clinical features of OI patients with FKBP10 variants and revealed the pathogenesis of the c.918-3C > G variant. Type V osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a form of OI characterized by radial head dislocation (RHD), calcification of interosseous membrane (CIM), and hyperplastic callus (HPC). In this study, we characterized the clinical features of 28 type V OI patients. We presented that dysfunctions of elbow, hip joint, and abnormal epiphyseal growth plate were associated with ectopic calcification and summarized the history of HPC progression and treatment., Introduction: The current study aims to systematically characterize the skeletal phenotypes of patients with type V OI and suggested possible surgical solutions., Methods: A total of 28 patients were admitted for inpatient care at The Hong Kong University-Shenzhen Hospital diagnosed with type V OI (either clinically diagnosed or genetically confirmed with the IFITM5 c.-14C > T mutation)., Results: Prevalence of type V radiological features was comparable to previous literatures (RHD, 100%; CIM, 100%; HPC, 44%; and scoliosis, 50%). Novel skeletal phenotypes were presented including extension of coronoid process, acetabular labrum, acetabular protrusion, spontaneous autofusion of the hip, bulbous epiphysis, and popcorn calcification. Significant increase in BMD was observed in patients with bisphosphonate treatment. Twenty-five percent (3/12) of patients with preoperative use of indomethacin developed HPC postoperatively, and HPCs were absorbed in 2 young patients 2 years later., Conclusion: This retrospective study summarized the clinical features and highlighted the abnormalities in elbow, hip joint, and growth plate in type V OI patients. Our study contributed to a more comprehensive clinical spectrum of type V OI. We also characterized the natural progression of HPC formation and resorption in patients in different ages. The use of bisphosphonate treatment is effective in improving bone mineral density in type V OI patients, and whether indomethacin can reduce incidence of HPC formation deserves further investigation., (© 2022. Background: Major anesthetic risks arise in orthopedic surgeries for children with osteogenesis imperfecta, a rare genetically inherited condition presenting diverse skeletal issues., Aim: We aimed to investigate anesthetic risks, including difficult airway, hypo- and hyperthermia, blood loss, and pain, in connection with patient, anesthetic, and surgical factors., Methods: Both descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to study the anesthetic risks and their predictors. Data of 252 surgeries for 132 Chinese osteogenesis imperfecta patients aged 18 or below were retrieved from the authors' hospital between 2015 and 2019., Results: Two thirds of the cohort were Sillence type IV patients, with types I, III, and V accounting for 7.6%, 14.4%, and 11.4%, respectively. Video and direct laryngoscopy were used. No case of difficult airway was identified. Due to a careful management strategy, intraoperative temperature varied on average between -0.38°C and +0.89°C from the initial temperature. Fifty-two and 18 cases of hyper- and hypothermia were encountered, respectively. The use of sevoflurane for maintenance resulted in a mean increase of +0.24°C [95% CI 0.05 ~ 0.42] in the maximum temperature. Massive blood losses (>20% of estimated total blood volume) were observed in 18.3% of the cases. Neither intraoperative temperature changes nor blood loss was found to be related to Sillence classification. Regional anesthesia techniques were applied to 72.6% of the cases. Ultrasound guidance was used per the judgment of anesthesiologists or when in case of difficult landmarks. The incidence of difficult regional anesthesia was low (4 out of 252). For postoperative analgesia, 154 neuraxial blocks (including 77 caudal and 77 lumbar epidural) and 29 peripheral nerve blocks were performed., Conclusion: Anesthesia for children with osteogenesis imperfecta undergoing complex orthopedic procedures was challenging. Proper anesthesia planning was essential for both intraoperative management and postoperative analgesia. Age, surgical duration, and use of sevoflurane for maintenance impacted the intraoperative temperature most, and massive blood loss was not uncommon. Background: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare congenital disorder of the skeletal system, inflicting debilitating physical and psychological distress on patients and caregivers. Over the decades, much effort has been channeled towards understanding molecular mechanisms and developing new treatments. It has recently become more apparent that patient-reported outcome measurements (PROM) during treatment, healing and rehabilitation are helpful in facilitating smoother communication, refining intervention strategies and achieving higher quality of life. To date, systematic analyses of PROM in OI patients remain scarce., Results: Here, utilizing a PROM Information System, we report a cross-sectional and longitudinal study in a southern Chinese cohort of 90 OI patients, covering both the child and adult age-groups. In the child group where both self and parental surveys were obtained, we identified two clusters of comparable sizes showing different outlooks in physical mobility and emotional experiences. One cluster (Cluster 1) is more negative about themselves than the other (Cluster 2). A concordance of 84.7% between self and parental assessments was recorded, suggesting the stability and validity of PROM-based stratification. Clinical subtyping, deformity, leg length discrepancy, and limited joint mobility were significantly associated with this stratification, with Cluster 1 showing higher percentages of severe phenotypes than Cluster 2. Since OI is a genetic disorder, we performed genetic testing on 72 of the 90 patients, but found no obvious association between genotypes and the PROM stratification. Analyses of longitudinal data suggested that patients tended to stay in the same psychological state, in both clusters. Adult patients also showed a continuous spectrum of self-evaluation that matches their clinical manifestations., Conclusion: By systematically analyzing patient-reported outcomes, our study demonstrated the link between the sociopsychological wellbeing of OI patients, and their clinical manifestations, which may serve as the basis for evaluating clinical interventions and help achieve better patient-centric medical practices. Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare inherited connective tissue dysplasia characterized with skeletal fragility, recurrent fractures and bone deformity, predominantly caused by mutations in the genes COL1A1 or COL1A2 that encode the chains of type I collagen. In the present study, clinical manifestations and genetic variants were analysed from 187 Chinese OI patients, majority of whom are of southern Chinese origin. By targeted sequencing, 63 and 58 OI patients were found carrying mutations in COL1A1 and COL1A2 respectively, including 8 novel COL1A1 and 7 novel COL1A2 variants. We validated a novel splicing mutation in COL1A1 . A diverse mutational and phenotypic spectrum was observed, coupling with the heterogeneity observed in the transcriptomic data derived from osteoblasts of six patients from our cohort. Missense mutations were significantly associated (χ 2 p = 0.0096) with a cluster of patients with more severe clinical phenotypes. Additionally, the severity of OI was more correlated with the quality of bones, rather than the bone mineral density. Bone density is most responsive to bisphosphonate treatment during the juvenile stage (10-15 years old). In contrast, height is not responsive to bisphosphonate treatment. Our findings expand the mutational spectrum of type I collagen genes and the genotype-phenotype correlation in Chinese OI patients. Vegetation restoration of slag heap (slope) is of great significance in environmental protection, but it is difficult because of the lack of soil. This study proposes a new technology for vegetation restoration of mine slag pile based on a mixed substrate of mine slag and soil. The ecological mechanism of vegetation in mountainous areas with soil-rock mix substrate was investigated through pot and field experiments, in which physical and chemical analyses of various components as well as the calculation of dosage and other parameters were performed. Soil testing formula, plant selection, pot experiment, and ground planting experiment were selected as the key links. The results showed that, in addition to N, P, K, and organic matter, the content of fine particles was the main factor determining whether the soil-rock mixture could meet the growth and development requirements of plants. The content of fine particles significantly affects the water-supply capacity and water-holding capacity of the soil-rock mixture matrix. The higher the content of fine particles, the better the water-supply capacity and water-holding capacity. The mixture of artificial rocks and fine soil could be stirred evenly when 50-200% fine soil or fine soil + tailings were mixed into the mine waste residue, thus providing good vegetation restoration effects.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to test whether local filling of a novel strontium-containing hydroxyapatite (Sr-HA) bone cement can augment the fixation of a locking plate system in a cadaveric proximal humeral facture model., Materials and Methods: Twelve pairs of formalin-treated cadaveric humeri were used. One side in each pair was for cemented group, while the other side was for the control group. The bone mineral density (BMD) of the samples was tested. A 3-part facture model was created and then reduced and fixed by a locking plate system. In the cemented group, the most proximal 4 screw holes were filled with 0.5 mL bone cement. In the control group, the screw holes were not filled by cement. Locking screws were inserted in a standard manner before the cement hardened. X-ray was taken before all the specimens being subjected to mechanical study, in which 6 pairs were used for axial loading (varus bending) test, while other 6 pairs were used for axial rotational test., Results: There is no difference in BMD between the cemented side and the control side. The X-ray shows that the implant is in position. Cement filling was noted in the most proximal 4 screws in the cemented group. Better mechanical outcome was seen in the cemented groups, in terms of less maximal displacement per cycle and higher failure point and stiffness in varus bending test. However, no difference was found between the cemented group and the control group in the axial rotation test., Discussion: In similarity with the previous studies, our results showed better mechanical results in the cemented group. However, due to the limitations (e.g. sample size, fracture model, testing protocol, etc), we still cannot directly extrapolate current mechanical results to clinical practice at the present moment. Furthermore, it is still unknown whether better primary outcome may lead to better long-term results, even though the local release of strontium may enhance the local bone formation., Conclusion: The local filling of Sr-HA bone cement augments the fixation of the locking plate system in current proximal humeral fracture model., Competing Interests: Declaration of Conflicting Interests: The author(s) declared no potential conflicts of interest with respect to the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article.

Cadmium (Cd) contamination in soil is a global environmental pollution issue. Nanohydroxyapatite (NHAP) has been used in soil remediation to immobilize cadmium in contaminated soils. However, the effect of acid rain on the export of cadmium from topsoil and its behavior in deep soil and leachate is unclear. In this study, column experiments and development of parsimonious model were performed to estimate Cd leaching behavior from topsoil and environmental risk of groundwater after 0.5% NHAP remediation. Four leaching events were performed and total Cd, different fractions of Cd determined by sequential extraction procedure and pH were determined for each leaching. The results show that with the export of Cd in topsoil, the total Cd concentration in soil at different depths had the following vertical distributions: 0-5 cm > 5-10 cm > 10-15 cm > 15-20 cm. NHAP treatment increased the soil pH and decreased Cd leaching loss by 56.45% compared to the control, and the results fit the parabolic diffusion model. With sequential extraction it was observed that NHAP application increased the residual fraction of cadmium in soil. After leaching, there was a positive correlation between soil pH and Cd concentration with regards to the exchangeable, reducible, oxidizable and residual Cd fractions. The parabolic diffusion model showed that Cd-contaminated soil with NHAP remediation is harmless to humans after sufficient remediation duration, whereas the resultant concentrations from the CK treatment could be toxic. The results indicate that nanohydroxyapatite could significantly reduce the bioavailability of cadmium and the environmental risk. However, the release of Ca and P from the dissolution of NHAP should be carefully studied as this will impact the mobilization of Cd or colloid Cd, and high leaching of P may result in P-induced eutrophication risk., (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier B.V. Soil salinization is a global problem that limits agricultural development and impacts human life. This study aimed to understand the dynamic changes in water and salinity in saline-alkali soil based on an indoor soil column simulation. We studied the changes in the water and salt contents of soils with different degrees of salinization under various irrigation conditions. The results showed that after seven irrigations, the pH, conductivity and total soluble salt content of the percolation samples after irrigation generally increased initially then decreased with repeated irrigation. The soil moisture did not change significantly after irrigation. The pH, conductivity, and total soluble salt content of each layer of the soil profile exhibited general declining trends. In the soil profile from Changguo Township (CG), the pH decreased from 8.21-8.35 to 7.71-7.88, the conductivity decreased from 0.95-1.14 ms/cm to 0.45-0.68 ms/cm, and the total soluble salt content decreased from 2.63-2.81 g/kg to 2.28-2.51 g/kg. In the soil profile from Zhongjie Industrial Park (ZJ), the pH decreased from 8.36-8.54 to 7.73-7.96, the conductivity decreased from 1.58-1.68 ms/cm to 1.45-1.54 ms/cm, and the total soluble salt decreased from 2.81-4.03 g/kg to 2.56-3.28 g/kg. The transported salt ions were primarily K+, Na+ and Cl-. After several irrigations, a representative desalination effect was achieved. The results of this study can provide technical guidance for the comprehensive management of saline-alkali soils.
