Metastatic colorectal cancer continues to have a high fatality rate, with approximately only 14% of patients surviving more than 5 years. To improve the survival rate of these patients, the development of new therapeutic drugs is a priority. In this study, we investigated the effects of Oroxylin A on the metastasis of human colorectal cancer cells and its potential molecular mechanism. This study utilised CCK8 assay, transwell assay, flow cytometry, western blot analysis, molecular docking, HE staining, immunofluorescence staining, and xenograft models. The proliferation, migration, and invasion of colon cancer cells were effectively suppressed by Oroxylin A in a dose-dependent manner. Oroxylin A has the potential to inhibit the process of epithelial‒mesenchymal transition (EMT) by upregulating the expression of E-cadherin, a marker associated with epithelial cells, while downregulating the levels of N-cadherin, Snail, vimentin, and slug, which are markers associated with mesenchymal cells. In addition, 200 mg/kg of Oroxylin A inhibited the growth of colorectal tumours. Molecular docking technology revealed that Oroxylin A can bind to TGFβ and inhibit the activation of the TGFβ-smad signalling pathway. The overexpression of TGFβ weakened the inhibitory effect of Oroxylin A on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of human colorectal cancer cells, as well as the promoting effect on apoptosis. Objective: To observe the clinical characteristics of fungal and Brucella infections of the lumbar spine and explore the key points for their differential diagnosis., Methods: The clinical data of 12 patients with fungal infection (the fungal group) and 31 patients with Brucella infection (the Brucella group) of the lumbar spine confirmed by microbiological culture and antigen test were retrospectively analysed. The differences in the clinical characteristics and imaging manifestations were observed between the two groups., Results: The peripheral blood neutrophil ratio, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, serum total protein and serum globulin levels in the fungal group were higher compared with the Brucella group, while the peripheral blood lymphocyte count, lymphocyte ratio and albumin-globulin ratio were lower in the fungal group compared with the Brucella group ( P < 0.05). As for imaging examinations, the proportion of bone destruction centred on the intervertebral disc with surrounding osteosclerosis on computed tomography (CT) imaging showed a statistical difference between the Brucella group and the fungal group ( P < 0.05). Superinsulation aerogels are characterized by low tensile strength and brittleness due to their high porosity. To address these limitations, multiscale architectural design inspired by nacre can be employed. This materials design approach offers a promising strategy for enhancing the mechanical strength of aerogel thermal insulation. In this study, we present nacre-inspired multilayer cellulose-silica aerogel configurations. The cellulose "brick" network imparts structural strength to effectively redistribute energy, while the nanoporous "mortar" silica blocks heat transfer, maintaining insulation and fire retardance. The multilayer composites, with a layering configuration of five cellulose layers with four silica layers (5 + 4) and a cellulose layer thickness of 1.42 mm, exhibit a thermal conductivity of 31.3 mW/(m·K), a flexural modulus of 505 MPa, and an impact strength of 7.33 kJ/m 2 . The hydrophobic composite shows a water contact angle of 127°, enhanced soundproofing with a 27% noise reduction, and a carbon footprint of 0.49 kgCO 2 eq/kg. The multilayer cellulose-silica aerogel design provides a robust, eco-friendly thermal insulation solution for green building applications.

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical that disrupts the endocrine system and may have negative implications on the lipid metabolism of organisms. To ascertain BPA implications on lipid metabolism in the hepatopancreas of Sesarmops sinensis, we exposed S. sinensis to different concentrations of BPA for 14 days. The outcomes manifested that BPA may stimulate hepatopancreas injury and lipid deposition in the hepatopancreas of S. sinensis and lead to the increase of hepatosomatic index (HSI). Transcriptome analysis showed that lipid metabolism-related pathways were significantly enriched in KEGG pathways. BPA exposure also caused disorders in lipid metabolism by altering fatty acid composition and lipid metabolites. The up-regulation of lipid synthesis genes and the alteration of lipid transport genes may be important reasons for the disorder of lipid metabolism. Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a significant disease worldwide, with high mortality rates. Conventional treatment methods often lead to metastasis and drug resistance, highlighting the need to explore new drugs and their potential molecular mechanisms. In this study, we investigated the effects of arctigenin on CRC cell proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis, and related protein expression, as well as its potential molecular mechanisms., Methods: The CCK-8 assay, transwell migration and invasion assays, flow cytometry, immunoblotting and immunofluorescence staining, western blot and an allograft tumor transplantation model was used., Results: Our study revealed that arctigenin effectively inhibited CRC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in a dose-dependent manner, while also inducing apoptosis. At the molecular level, arctigenin significantly downregulated the expressions of PCNA, Bcl2, MMP-2, and MMP-9 and upregulated the expressions of Bax and cleaved caspase-3. Additionally, arctigenin demonstrated the ability to inhibit the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process by upregulating E-cadherin and downregulating mesenchymal markers, such as N-cadherin, Vimentin, Snail, and Slug. Furthermore, arctigenin could inhibit the activation of the PI3K-AKT-mTOR signaling pathway, which has been implicated in cancer progression. Background: Radiation-induced skin injury is a significant adverse reaction to radiotherapy. However, there is a lack of effective prevention and treatment methods for this complication. Ferulic acid (FA) has been identified as an effective anti-radiation agent. Conventional administrations of FA limit the reaching of it on skin. We aimed to develop a novel FA hydrogel to facilitate the use of FA in radiation-induced skin injury., Methods: We cross-linked carbomer 940, a commonly used adjuvant, with FA at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15%. Sweep source optical coherence tomography system, a novel skin structure evaluation method, was applied to investigate the influence of FA on radiation-induced skin injury. Calcein-AM/PI staining, CCK8 assay, hemolysis test and scratch test were performed to investigate the biocompatibility of FA hydrogel. The reducibility of DPPH and ABTS radicals by FA hydrogel was also performed. HE staining, Masson staining, laser Doppler blood flow monitor, and OCT imaging system are used to evaluate the degree of skin tissue damage. Potential differentially expressed genes were screened via transcriptome analysis., Results: Good biocompatibility and in vitro antioxidant ability of the FA hydrogels were observed. 10% FA hydrogel presented a better mechanical stability than 5% and 15% FA hydrogel. All three concentrations of FA remarkably promoted the recovery of radiation-induced skin injury by reducing inflammation, oxidative conidiation, skin blood flow, and accelerating skin tissue reconstruction, collagen deposition. FA hydrogel greatly inhibiting the levels of NLRP3, caspase-1, IL-18, pro-IL-1β and IL-1β in vivo and vitro levels through restraining the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome. Background: Prostate cancer is a remarkable global health concern, necessitating accurate risk stratification for optimal treatment and outcome prediction. By highlighting the potential of imaging-based approaches to improve risk assessment in prostate cancer, this research aims to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of the Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS) v2.1 combined with apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values to gain increased context within the broad landscape of clinical needs and advancements in prostate cancer management., Methods: The clinical data of 145 patients diagnosed with prostate cancer were retrospectively analysed. The patients were divided into low-moderate- and high-risk groups on the basis of Gleason scores. PI-RADS v2.1 scores were assessed by senior radiologists and ADC values were calculated by using diffusion-weighted imaging. Statistical, univariate logistic regression, and receiver operating characteristic curve analyses were employed to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of each index and combined PI-RADS v2.1 scores and ADC values., Results: This study found significant differences in PI-RADS v2.1 scores and ADC values between the low-moderate- and high-risk groups ( p < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis revealed associations of various clinical indicators, PI-RADS score and ADC values with Gleason risk classification. Although the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) infects various cell types, its receptor molecules are still not clearly understood. In our laboratory's prior research, Rab4b was identified as a potential host factor that facilitates JEV infection in PK15 cells, utilizing a genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 knockout library (PK-15-GeCKO). To further explore the effect of Rab4b on JEV replication, we used the Rab4b knockout PK15 cell line using the CRISPR/Cas9 technology and overexpressing the Rab4b PK15 cell line, with IFA, RT-qPCR, and Western blot to study the effect of Rab4b on viral replication in the whole life cycle of the JEV. The results show that the knockout of Rab4b inhibited the replication of the JEV in PK15 cells, and the overexpression of Rab4b promoted the replication of the JEV in PK15 cell lines. Furthermore, we demonstrated for the first time that host factor Rab4b facilitates the adsorption, internalization, assembly, and release of the JEV, thereby promoting JEV replication. This study enriches the regulatory network between the JEV and host factors and lays the experimental foundation for further understanding of the function of the Rab4b protein.

Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) is a common pollutant in the marine environment, which impairs immunity and causes reproductive and heredity disorders in organisms. To clarify the immunotoxic effects of Cr (VI) on the marine worm Urechis unicinctus, we analyzed tissue damage and immune dysfunction caused by Cr (VI) in this organism at histopathologic, zymologic, apoptotic and molecular levels. The results indicated that the bioaccumulation of Cr (VI) bioaccumulation levels in coelomocytes was significantly higher than in the intestines and muscles. Pathological observation showed that Cr (VI) caused damage to the respiratory intestine, stomach and midgut. Cr (VI) also increased the replication of goblet cells and a reduction in the replication of epithelial cells. Meanwhile, Cr (VI) induced apoptosis of intestinal cells and coelomocytes, accompanied by an increase in the expression of Caspase-3, COX-2, and MyD88 in the intestine and coelomocytes. At the same time, Cr (VI) significantly affected the activities of antioxidant enzymes such as SOD, ACP, CAT, CAT, and GST, and increased H 2 O 2 and MDA contents in U. unicinctus. Moreover, Cr (VI) exposure also up-regulated the transcription of hsc70, mt and jnk genes but decreased that of sod in the intestines. In contrast, Cr (VI) down-regulated the expression of sod, hsc70, mt, and jnk genes in coelomocytes. The functions of natural killer (NK) and T cells in innate and adaptive immunity, as well as their functions in tumor eradication, are complementary and intertwined. Here we show that utilization of multi-specific antibodies or nano-antibodies capable of simultaneously targeting both NK and T cells could be a valuable approach in cancer immunotherapy. Here, we introduce a tri-specific Nano-Antibody (Tri-NAb), generated by immobilizing three types of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), using an optimized albumin/polyester composite nanoparticle conjugated with anti-Fc antibody. This Tri-NAb, targeting PDL1, 4-1BB, and NKG2A (or TIGIT) simultaneously, effectively binds to NK and CD8 + T cells, triggering their activation and proliferation, while facilitating their interaction with tumor cells, thereby inducing efficient tumor killing. Importantly, the antitumor efficacy of Tri-NAb is validated in multiple models, including patient-derived tumor organoids and humanized mice, highlighting the translational potential of NK and T cell co-targeting., (© 2024. Background: Proliferative verrucous leucoplakia (PVL) is a rare but slow-growing, aggressive leucoplakia lesion associated with the highest malignant transformation rate in oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). With increasing attention paid to PVL, it is urgent for us to analyse and summarise the publications globally using comprehensive bibliometric studies to help researchers propose possible future research directions and guide them to further conduct relevant studies in the domain., Objectives: The purpose of the study was to evaluate global academic productivity, impact, and collaboration of potentially malignant oral disorder PVL utilising bibliometrics based on annual number of publications, countries and regions, institution, authors, journals, citations and co-occurrences of author keywords over the last 20 years., Methods: This study searched publications pertaining to proliferative verrucous leucoplakia in the Web of Science Core Collection, spanning from 2003 to 2023. Utilizing VOSviewer, R software, Bibliometric online analysis platform, CiteSpace software, and Microsoft Excel, we conducted a bibliometric and visualised analysis of PVL., Results: The quantity of pertinent publications in this research domain displays a fluctuating but overall upward trend. In aggregate, there are 148 articles and 61 reviews, encompassing research contributions from 44 countries, 45 institutions, and involving 831 authors. Among these publications, the USA, Spain, and UK emerged as the predominant contributing nations. Predominantly, articles found their publication venue in "Pathology Research and Practice." Notably, the author with the highest number of publications and most influence is Warnakulasuriya S. The top 3 keywords include "Proliferative Verrucous Leucoplakia," "Squamous-Cell Carcinoma," "Oral Leucoplakia," and "Potentially Malignant Disorders.", Conclusion: In this investigation, statistical analysis and network visualisation were conducted to reveal the research progress, trends, and trending topics on PVL via a thorough bibliometric analysis. We found that current publications comprise mainly case reports, there is a significant research need to explore the molecular mechanisms, specific diagnostic criteria, and effective management options for PVL. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the role of the Hounsfield unit value of chest CT non-contrast enhanced scan in evaluating the severity of anemia in HIV-infected patients., Methods: Patients with HIV infection combined with anemia admitted to the Kunming Third People's Hospital were retrospectively collected and divided into mild anemia, moderate anemia, and severe anemia groups by peripheral hemoglobin (HB) content and calculated the ratio of ventricular septum density (VSD) to left ventricular density (LVD) and VSD to right ventricular density (RVD); then, the above patients were divided into the critical value group and the non-critical value group according to HB and compared the differences of LVD, RVD, VSD/LVD, and VSD/RVD in the two groups of patients., Results: A total of 126 patients were included, with a mean age of 47.9 ± 11.1 years; 43 cases were in the mild anemia group, 59 cases were in the moderate anemia group, and 24 cases were in the severe anemia group; the differences in LVD, RVD, VSD/LVD, and VSD/RVD were significant in the three groups; VSD/LVD was an independent predictor for the diagnosis of anemia critical value in the non-critical value group vs critical value group by multifactorial binary logistic regression analysis, and the ROC was plotted using VSD/LVD with an area under the curve of 0.731., Conclusions: The measurement of cardiac cavity density and ventricular septal density under CT plain film scan has a high accuracy in evaluating the severity of anemia in patients with HIV infection and can quickly determine the severity of HIV infection in the early stage and treat it as soon as possible., Competing Interests: Conflict of interest: The authors of this study declared no conflict of interest., (© 2024 the author(s), published by De Gruyter.)

Health risks of microplastic exposure have drawn growing global concerns due to the widespread distribution of microplastics in the environment. However, more evidence is needed to understand the exposure characteristics of microplastics owing to the limitation of current spectrum technologies, especially the missing information on small-sized particles. In the present study, laser direct infrared spectroscopy and thermal desorption-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry combined pyrolysis using a tubular furnace (TD-GC/MS) were employed to comprehensively detect the presence of plastic particles down to 0.22 μm in human excreted samples. The results showed that polyethylene (PE), polyvinyl chloride, PE terephthalate (PET), and polypropylene dominated large-sized (>20 μm) and small-sized plastic plastics (0.22-20 μm) in feces and urine. Moreover, fragments accounted for 60.71 and 60.37% in feces and urine, respectively, representing the most pervasive shape in excretion. Surprisingly, the concentration of small-sized particles was significantly higher than that of large-sized microplastics, accounting for 56.54 and 50.07% in feces (345.58 μg/g) and urine (6.49 μg/mL). Significant positive correlations were observed between the level of plastic particles in feces and the use of plastic containers and the consumption of aquatic products (Spearman correlation analysis, p < 0.01), suggesting the potential sources for plastic particles in humans. Furthermore, it is estimated that feces was the primary excretory pathway, consisting of 94.0% of total excreted microplastics daily. This study provides novel evidence regarding small-sized plastic particles, which are predominant fractions in human excretion, increasing the knowledge of the potential hazards of omnipresent microplastics to human exposure.

Multiple myeloma (MM) denotes a cancerous growth characterized by abnormal proliferation of plasma cells. Growing evidence suggests that the complexity in addressing MM lies in the presence of minimal residual disease (MRD) within the body. MRD assessment is becoming increasingly important for risk assessment in patients with MM. Similarly, the levels of serum free protein light chain and their ratio play a crucial role in assessing the disease burden and changes in MM. Background: Root caries are prevalent issues that affect dental health, particularly among elderly individuals with exposed root surfaces. Fluoride therapy has shown effectiveness in preventing root caries, but limited studies have addressed its cost-effectiveness in elderly persons population. This study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of a fluoride treatment program for preventing root caries in elderly persons within the context of Chinese public healthcare., Methods: A Markov simulation model was adopted for the cost-effectiveness analysis in a hypothetical scenario from a healthcare system perspective. A 60-year-old subject with 23 teeth was simulated for 20 years. A 5% sodium fluoride varnish treatment was compared with no preventive intervention in terms of effectiveness and cost. Tooth years free of root caries were set as the effect. Transition probabilities were estimated from the data of a community-based cohort and published studies, and costs were based on documents published by the government. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) was calculated to evaluate cost-effectiveness. Univariate and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed to evaluate the influence of data uncertainty., Results: Fluoride treatment was more effective (with a difference of 10.20 root caries-free tooth years) but also more costly (with a difference of ¥1636.22). The ICER was ¥160.35 per root caries-free tooth year gained. One-way sensitivity analysis showed that the risk ratio of root caries in the fluoride treatment group influenced the result most. In the probabilistic sensitivity analysis, fluoride treatment was cost-effective in 70.5% of the simulated cases., Conclusions: Regular 5% sodium fluoride varnish application was cost-effective for preventing root caries in the elderly persons in most scenarios with the consideration of data uncertainty, but to a limited extent. Improved public dental health awareness may reduce the incremental cost and make the intervention more cost-effective. China has become one of the most serious countries suffering from biological invasions in the world. In the context of global climate change, invasive alien species (IAS) are likely to invade a wider area, posing greater ecological and economic threats in China. Western mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis), which is known as one of the 100 most invasive alien species, has distributed widely in southern China and is gradually spreading to the north, causing serious ecological damage and economic losses. However, its distribution in China is still unclear. Hence, there is an urgent need for a more convenient way to detect and monitor the distribution of G. affinis to put forward specific management. Therefore, we detected the distribution of G. affinis in China under current and future climate change by combing Maxent modeling prediction and eDNA verification, which is a more time-saving and reliable method to estimate the distribution of species. The Maxent modeling showed that G. affinis has a broad habitat suitability in China (especially in southern China) and would continue to spread in the future with ongoing climate change. However, eDNA monitoring showed that occurrences can already be detected in regions that Maxent still categorized as unsuitable. Besides temperature, precipitation and human influence were the most important environmental factors affecting the distribution of G. affinis in China. In addition, by environmental DNA analysis, we verified the presence of G. affinis predicted by Maxent in the Qinling Mountains where the presence of G. affinis had not been previously recorded., (© 2024. Microplastics have become ubiquitous throughout the environment. Humans constantly ingest and inhale microplastics, increasing concerns about the health risks of microplastic exposure. However, limited data impedes a full understanding of the internal exposure to microplastics. Herein, to evaluate microplastic exposure via the respiratory and digestive systems, we used laser direct infrared spectroscopy to identify microplastics >20 μm in size in different human tissues. Consequently, 20-100 μm microplastics were concentrated in all tissues, with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) being the dominant polymer. The highest abundance of microplastics was detected in lung tissue with an average of 14.19 ± 14.57 particles/g, followed by that in the small intestine, large intestine, and tonsil (9.45 ± 13.13, 7.91 ± 7.00, and 6.03 ± 7.37 particles/g, respectively). The abundance of microplastics was also significantly greater in females than in males (p < 0.05). Despite significant diversity, our estimation showed that the lungs accumulated the highest amounts of microplastic. Moreover, PVC particles may cause potential health risks because of their high polymer hazard index and maximal risk level. The contamination of toxic heavy metals in aquatic environments has garnered significant global attention due to its detrimental effects on marine organisms and human health. Hexavalent chromium is a typical environmental and occupational heavy metal pollutant, identified as carcinogenic heavy metal. This study aimed to assess the impact of different Cr (VI) concentrations (0.05-2.5 mg/L) on Urechis unicinctus (U. unicinctus) by investigating bioaccumulation, antioxidant defense system, expression of resistance-related genes, and histological issues. A clear concentration-effect relationship was observed in the bioaccumulation of Cr (VI) in muscle tissues of U. unicinctus. Moreover, exposure to Cr (VI) can alter the activities of lysozyme (LSZ), catalase (CAT), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) to enhance cellular defense mechanisms in U. unicinctus. Likewise, maintained the normal protein structure and functional stability by regulating protein folding. The heat shock cognitive protein (HSC70) gene showed an upward and then downward trend after Cr (VI) exposure. At 12 h, the HSC70 gene expression reached the maximum values of 4.75 and 4.61-fold in the 0.1 and 1.5 mg/L groups, respectively. The organism produced a large number of free radicals, and elevated level of metallothionein (MT) was used to scavenge free radicals and alleviate oxidative stress. Liver fibrosis scores have been demonstrated to be associated with poor prognosis after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, no studies have compared the prognostic value of these scores in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients with and without diabetes. We retrospectively enrolled 1576 AMI patients who underwent PCI. There were 177 all-cause deaths and 111 cardiac deaths during follow-up (median 3.8 years). The non-alcoholic fatty liver disease fibrosis score (NFS) showed a better prognostic value than the fibrosis-8 (FIB-8) score (Harrell's C-index: 0.703 vs 0.671, P = .014) and the fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) score (Harrell's C-index: 0.703 vs 0.648, P < .001) in the overall population. In the time-dependent receiver operating characteristic analysis, the NFS also had the highest area under the curve across all time points. Consistent results were observed in diabetic and non-diabetic populations. Adding the NFS to traditional cardiovascular risk factors significantly improved the prediction both for all-cause mortality (Harrell's C-index: 0.806 vs 0.771, P < .001) and cardiac death (Harrell's C-index: 0.800 vs 0.771, P = .014). Herein, a versatile surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) platform was firstly constructed by integrating conductive metal organic framework (CMOF) with controlled electrodeposition of Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) on flexible carbon paper (CP-CMOF@Au) for sensitively recognizing diazepam (DZP) in aquatic products. The CMOF not only provided a pre-concentration effect for boosting sensitivity, but also dramatically improved the intrinsic electrical conductivity contributing to homogeneous distribution of Au NPs and forming SERS-active "hot spot" with superior stability and reproducibility. Based on CP-CMOF@Au chip, DZP can be sensitively detected with low limit of detection of 0.64 ng mL -1 and wide linear detection range from 0.001 to 10 μg mL -1 . Also, DZP in aquatic products can be collected and recognized using multiple approaches (drip coating, soaking and wiping) with excellent reusability and satisfactory recovery of 85.8-103.3%. Accurately predicting the concentration of fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) is crucial for evaluating air pollution levels and public exposure. Recent advancements have seen a significant rise in using deep learning (DL) models for forecasting PM 2.5 concentrations. Nonetheless, there is a lack of unified and standardized frameworks for assessing the performance of DL-based PM 2.5 prediction models. Here we extensively reviewed those DL-based hybrid models for forecasting PM 2.5 levels according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. We examined the similarities and differences among various DL models in predicting PM 2.5 by comparing their complexity and effectiveness. We categorized PM 2.5 DL methodologies into seven types based on performance and application conditions, including four types of DL-based models and three types of hybrid learning models. Our research indicates that established deep learning architectures are commonly used and respected for their efficiency. However, many of these models often fall short in terms of innovation and interpretability. Conversely, models hybrid with traditional approaches, like deterministic and statistical models, exhibit high interpretability but compromise on accuracy and speed. Besides, hybrid DL models, representing the pinnacle of innovation among the studied models, encounter issues with interpretability. We introduce a novel three-dimensional evaluation framework, i.e., Dataset-Method-Experiment Standard (DMES) to unify and standardize the evaluation for PM 2.5 predictions using DL models. Objectives: Helicobacter pylori ( H. pylori ) is a type of bacteria that infects the stomach lining, and it is a major cause of chronic gastritis (CG). H. pylori infection can influence the composition of the gastric microbiota. Additionally, alterations in the gut microbiome have been associated with various health conditions, including gastrointestinal disorders. The dysbiosis in gut microbiota of human is associated with the decreased secretion of gastric acid. Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) and H. pylori infection are also causes of reduced gastric acid secretion. However, the specific details of how H. pylori infection and CG, especially for CAG, influence the gut microbiome can vary and are still an area of ongoing investigation. The incidence of CAG and infection rate of H. pylori has obvious regional characteristics, and Fujian Province in China is a high incidence area of CAG as well as H. pylori infection. We aimed to characterize the microbial changes and find potential diagnostic markers associated with infection of H. pylori as well as CG of subjects in Jinjiang City, Fujian Province, China., Participants: Enrollment involved sequencing the 16S rRNA gene in fecal samples from 176 cases, adhering to stringent inclusion and exclusion criteria. For our study, we included healthy volunteers (Normal), individuals with chronic non-atrophic gastritis (CNAG), and those with CAG from Fujian, China. The aim was to assess gut microbiome dysbiosis based on various histopathological features. QIIME and LEfSe analyses were performed. There were 176 cases, comprising 126 individuals who tested negative for H. pylori and 50 who tested positive defined by C14 urea breath tests and histopathological findings in biopsies obtained through endoscopy. CAG was also staged by applying OLGIM system., Results: When merging the outcomes from 16S rRNA gene sequencing results, there were no notable variations in alpha diversity among the following groups: Normal, CNAG, and CAG; OLGIM I and OLGIM II; and H. pylori positive [Hp (+)] and H. pylori negative [Hp (-)] groups. Beta diversity among different groups show significant separation through the NMDS diagrams. LEfSe analyses confirmed 2, 3, and 6 bacterial species were in abundance in the Normal, CNAG, and CAG groups; 26 and 2 species in the OLGIM I and OLGIM II group; 22 significant phylotypes were identified in Hp (+) and Hp (-) group, 21 and 1, respectively; 9 bacterial species exhibited significant differences between individuals with CG who were Hp (+) and those who were Hp (-)., Conclusion: The study uncovered notable distinctions in the characteristics of gut microbiota among the following groups: Normal, CNAG, and CAG; OLGIM I and OLGIM II; and Hp (+) and Hp (-) groups. Through the analysis of H. pylori infection in CNAG and CAG groups, we found the gut microbiota characteristics of different group show significant difference because of H. pylori infection. Fibrosis is one of the most worrisome complications of chronic inflammatory diseases, leading to tissue damage, organ failure, and ultimately, death. The most notable pathological characteristic of fibrosis is the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) components such as collagen and fibronectin adjacent to foci of inflammation or damage. The human microfibrillar-associated protein 4 (MFAP4), an important member of the superfamily of fibrinogen-related proteins, is considered to have an extremely important role in ECM transformation of fibrogenesis. This review summarizes the structure, characteristics, and physiological functions of MFAP4 and the importance of MFAP4 in various fibrotic diseases. Background:  The Age-D-dimer-Albumin (ADA), the CREDO-Kyoto, and the PARIS scores have been established to predict thrombotic events. However, the prognostic performance of these scores compared to the GRACE score in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has not been reported., Methods:  Consecutive AMI patients treated with PCI were retrospectively enrolled at a teaching hospital in China from January 2016 to December 2019. The primary endpoint was all-cause mortality and the secondary endpoint was cardiac death. Harrell's C-index and net reclassification improvement (NRI) were used to compare the prognostic value of these scores with the GRACE score for mortality., Results:  Of the 1,578 patients enrolled, the mean age was 62.5 years, and 23.5% were female. During a median follow-up of 3.8 years, 146 all-cause deaths and 80 cardiac deaths occurred. The ADA score showed a better prognostic performance than the GRACE (Harrell's C-index: 0.800 vs. 0.749; p  = 0.003), the CREDO-Kyoto (Harrell's C-index: 0.800 vs. 0.765; NRI = 0.348, p  < 0.001), and the PARIS scores (Harrell's C-index: 0.800 vs. 0.694; NRI = 0.556, p  < 0.001). In the multivariable Cox regression analysis, the ADA score was independently associated with all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.641 per 10-point increment, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.397-1.929) and cardiac death (HR = 1.636 per 10-point increment, 95% CI: 1.325-2.020). Bacterial infection poses a constant threat to human health. It is crucial to develop cost-effective and multifunctional solutions to combat bacteria. In this study, inspiration has been taken from artificial photosynthesis and a hydrogel containing a photocatalytic metal-organic cluster (MOC) has been creatively formulated for wound healing and antibacterial purposes. Complete photocatalytic cycles have been achieved by combining the oxidative Ti-center and the reductive Cu-center, in which reactive oxygen species ( 1 O 2 and ·OH) have been generated. The MOC has the capability to eliminate Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) at a concentration of 40 µg mL -1 . In addition, the hydrogel formulation (H-MOC) has been applied to wounds infected with S. aureus, resulting in improved healing efficiency. In China, there has been a persistent upward trend in the incidence and mortality rates of colorectal cancer (CRC), with CRC ranking second in incidence and fifth in mortality among all malignant tumors. Although circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been implicated in the progression of various cancers, their specific role in CRC progression remains largely unexplored. The objective of this study was to elucidate the role and underlying mechanisms of circXRN2 in CRC. Differential expression of circXRN2 was identified through whole transcriptome sequencing. The expression levels of circXRN2 and miR-149-5p were quantified in CRC tissues, corresponding adjacent normal tissues, and CRC cell lines using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The stability of circXRN2 was confirmed through RNase R and actinomycin D experiments. The binding interaction between circXRN2 and miR-149-5p was validated through RNA pull-down, RNA immunoprecipitation, and dual-luciferase assays. The biological functions of circXRN2 were assessed through a battery of in vitro experiments, including the CCK-8 assay, EdU assay, scratch assay, Transwell assay, and flow cytometry assay. Additionally, in vivo experiments involving a tumor transplantation model and a liver-lung metastasis model were conducted. The influence of circXRN2 on the expression of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related genes was determined via Western blotting analysis. In CRC tissues and cells, there was an upregulation in the expression levels of both circXRN2 and ENC1, while miR-149-5p exhibited a downregulation in its expression. The overexpression of circXRN2 was found to enhance tumor proliferation and metastasis, as evidenced by results from both in vitro and in vivo experiments. Functionally, circXRN2 exerted its antitumor effect by suppressing cell proliferation, migration, and invasion while also promoting apoptosis. Mechanistically, the dysregulated expression of circXRN2 had an impact on the expression of proteins within the EMT signaling pathway. Our results demonstrated that circXRN2 promoted the proliferation and metastasis of CRC cells through the miR-149-5p/ENC1/EMT axis, suggesting that circXRN2 might serve as a potential therapeutic target and novel biomarker in the progression of CRC., (© 2024. Microplastic pollution is not only an environmental problem but also a social problem. Many studies have been conducted on the sources, abundance, and distribution of microplastics in the environment, but an understanding of human exposure levels and potential health risks remains very limited. Based on the bibliometric methods, the present review systematically summarized the exposure pathways of microplastics in humans, and then the characteristics and potential adverse impacts on human health were expounded upon. Available literature showed that microplastics in human bodies were mainly concentrated on sizes smaller than 50 μm, and polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) were the main polymers. Microplastics in environments entered human bodies mainly through food and respiratory pathways, then accumulated in lung and gastrointestinal tissues. Most importantly, small-sized microplastics could distribute in tissues and organs via the circulatory system. The results from lab-based toxicological experiments showed that microplastics not only posed threats to cell membrane integrity, immune stress, gut microbiota, and energy metabolism but also had potentially adverse impacts on the reproductive system. To further understand the health risks of microplastic pollution, it is necessary to promote research on the toxicological effects of microplastics as well as the inner mechanisms and also to establish risk assessment frameworks for evaluating microplastic pollution. These works are crucial to preventing the risks of microplastic pollution with scientific evidence.

Background: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of glutamine on the growth performance and systemic innate immune response in broiler chickens challenged with Salmonella pullorum. A total of 600 one-day-old Arbor Acres broiler chickens were assigned randomly to 6 dietary treatments with 10 replicates for a 21-day feeding experiment. The experimental treatments were as follows: the control treatment (birds fed the basal diet), the Gln1 treatment, and the Gln 2 treatment (birds fed the basal diet supplemented with 0.5%, and 1.0% Glutamine, respectively). At 3 d of age, half of the birds from each treatment were challenged oral gavage with 2.0 × 10 4  CFU/mL of S. pullorum suspension (1.0 mL per bird) or an equivalent amount of sterile saline alone, which served as a control., Results: The results showed that S. pullorum infection had adverse effects on the average daily feed intake, average daily gain, and feed conversion ratio of broiler chickens compared with those of the CON treatment on d 7, decreased the spleen and bursa of fabricius relative weights (except on d 21), serum immunoglobulin A (IgA),immunoglobulin G (IgG), and immunoglobulin M (IgM) concentrations, and spleen melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA5) and laboratory of genetics and physiology gene 2 (LGP2) mRNA expression levels, and increased the mRNA expression levels of spleen Nodinitib-1 (NOD1), Toll-like receptors 2,4 (TLR2, TLR4), DNA-dependent activator of IFN-regulatory factors (DAI), mitochondrial antiviral-signaling protein (MAVS), P50, P65, and RelB on d 4, 7, 14, and 21. Supplementation with Gln improved the relative weights of the spleen and bursa of Fabricius (except on d 21), increased the serum IgA, IgG, and IgM concentrations and the mRNA expression levels of spleen MDA5 and LGP2, and decreased the mRNA expression levels of spleen NOD1, TLR2, TLR4, DAI, MAVS, P50, P65, and RelB of S. pullorum-challenged broiler chickens., Conclusion: These results indicate that Gln might stimulate the systemic innate immune responses of the spleen in broiler chickens challenged with S. pullorum., (© 2023. Vortex beams carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) with the doughnut-shaped intensity distribution can be employed in free-space optical (FSO) communication links to circumvent obstructions. However, the size of the receiver aperture is proportional to the size of obstructions, which seriously constrains the application of OAM beams in this scenario. In this paper, we propose a method to generate bottle vortex beams (BVBs) with a parabolic trajectory by manipulating the radial phase distribution of conventional OAM beams. Meanwhile, the trajectory of BVBs generated are highly compatible with the predesigned trajectory by using this method. Moreover, we evaluate the free-space transmission performance of BVBs under atmospheric turbulence and limited receiving aperture. The results show that BVBs have better OAM FSO communication link performance compared with conventional OAM beams and Bessel beams. In addition, the performance of the BVBs circumventing obstructions is further investigated. The simulation results show that when setting the atmospheric turbulence strength D/r 0  = 2 and the obstruction size of 40 mm, the average received optical power of the BVBs captured by a limited receiving aperture diameter (d = 40 mm) is improved about 7 dB and 3 dB compared to conventional OAM beams and Bessel beams, respectively.

Spatial modes of light are susceptible to distortion, particularly by the presence of turbulence in atmospheric free-space links. The scattering of one mode to another disrupts the orthogonality among distinct orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes, leading to modal crosstalk between multiple channels. To enhance the performance of OAM-multiplexed free-space optical (FSO) communication, a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based turbulent OAM approach is proposed for compensating turbulence, with a specific focus on predicting the OAM of turbulence itself. An operator approach is utilized to extract the OAM component of atmospheric turbulence and the CNN is trained to predict the turbulent OAM coefficients. By employing the proposed network, the received power of the OAM-based FSO link can be improved by more than 10 dB under weak to strong turbulence conditions. Compared to Zernike modes, the turbulent OAM modes characterize most of the turbulence information using only a small number of orders. After compensation, when the strong turbulence strength D/r0 = 4, the received power of the transmitted beams with turbulent OAM improves by 4 dB over that with Zernike. Additionally, the crosstalk of multiplexed channels with turbulent OAM is reduced by 10 dB over that with Zernike under varying turbulence conditions.

Low-cost fish species are often used to adulterate or substitute for Atlantic salmon products, posing a serious threat to market order and public health. Hence, reliable techniques are urgently needed to detect Atlantic salmon adulteration. In this study, a precise method for identifying and quantifying adulterated Atlantic salmon with rainbow trout based on droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) testing was developed. Species-specific primers and probes were designed targeting the single-copy nuclear gene myoglobin of two salmonids. A quantitative formula for calculating the mass fraction of adulterated Atlantic salmon with rainbow trout was established based on a one-step conversion strategy, in which the DNA copy number ratios were directly transformed to meat mass fractions by introducing a fixed constant (the transfer coefficient). The dynamic range of the established ddPCR method was from 1% to 90%, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.2% and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.8% for rainbow trout in Atlantic salmon, respectively. The quantification method demonstrated an acceptable level of repeatability and reproducibility, as the values of the relative standard deviation (RSD) for the tested meat mixtures with the known fractions were all less than 5%. Thermal and freezing treatments, as well as adding food additives within the recommended dosage limits, had no significant effect on the quantification accuracy. The method was successfully applied to detect rainbow trout adulteration in commercial raw and processed Atlantic salmon products. In comparison to real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) testing, the established ddPCR method exhibited a higher level of stability and accuracy. Overall, the ddPCR-based quantitative method exhibited high levels of accuracy, stability, sensitivity, and practicability, suitable for applications in the routine surveillance and quality assurance of salmon products.

Spatial domain of light beam is an important degree of freedom to be extensively explored. As a set of spatial domains, twisted lights have some natural properties such as orthogonality and security, providing great potentials in optical communications especially for data encoding/decoding. However, the speed of traditional spatial light modulators has always been criticized. Here we present a hundred-meter security free-space data transmission based on high-speed spatial light modulation by exploiting temporal-to-spatial domain mapping. We demonstrate 25-Gbit/s twisted light encoding/decoding and 260-m security free-space data transmission in the experiment. The encoding/decoding link will lead to 3-dB improvement in bit error rate (BER) performance compared with a single channel in theory and ∼1-dB optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) penalty at the forward error correction (FEC) threshold of 3.8e-3 in practice. The experiment results also show favorable security performance of the proposed encoding/decoding link system.

Cadmium (Cd 2+ ) and nitrate (NO 3 - ) are important environmental pollutants in the offshore marine ecological environment. However, limited research has explored their combined effects, particularly regarding their impact on the microbiota and intestinal health of marine fish. In this study, juvenile Japanese flounders (P. olivaceus) were immersed in seawater samples with different combinations of Cd 2+ (0, 0.2, and 2 mg/L) and NO 3 - (0 and 80 mg/L NO 3 N) for 30 days to explore their toxic impacts on intestinal morphology, tight junction (TJ) barrier, immune response, and microbiota. Our results showed that Cd 2+ or NO 3 - exposure alone led to histopathological damage of the gut, while their co-exposure aggravated intestinal damage. Moreover, co-exposure substantially decreased TJ-related gene expression, including occludin, claudin-10, and ZO-2, suggesting increased TJ permeability in the gut. Regarding the immune response, we observed upregulated expression of immune-related markers such as HSP40, IL-1β, TNF-α, and MT, suggesting the onset of intestinal inflammation. Furthermore, Cd 2+ and NO 3 - exposure led to changes in intestinal microflora, characterized by decreased the abundance of Sediminibacterium and NS3a&#95;marine&#95;group while increasing the prevalence of pathogens or opportunistic pathogens such as Ralstonia, Proteus, and Staphylococcus. This alteration in microbiota composition increased network complexity and α-diversity, ultimately causing dysbiosis in the fish gut. Additionally, combined exposure resulted in metabolic disorders that affected the predicted functions of the intestinal microbiota. Overall, our study demonstrates that Cd 2+ -NO 3 - co-exposure amplifies the deleterious effects compared to single exposure. Background: Both video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) thymectomy and robot-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (RATS) thymectomy have been suggested as technically sound approaches for early-stage thymic epithelial tumors. However, the choice of VATS or RATS thymectomy for large and advanced thymic epithelial tumors remains controversial. In this study, the perioperative outcomes of VATS and RATS thymectomy were compared in patients with large thymic epithelial tumors (size ≥5.0 cm)., Methods: A total of 113 patients with large thymic epithelial tumors who underwent minimally invasive surgery were included. Sixty-three patients underwent RATS, and 50 patients underwent VATS. Patient characteristics and perioperative variables were compared., Results: Compared with the VATS group, the RATS group experienced a shorter operation time (median: 110 min vs.130 min; P < 0.001) and less blood loss (30.00 ml vs. 100.00 ml, P < 0.001). No patients in the RATS group needed conversion to open surgery, but in the VATS series, five patients required conversion to open procedures (0% vs. 14.29%, P = 0.054). The rate of concomitant resection in the RATS group was similar to that in the VATS group (11.43% vs. 5.71%; P = 0.673). There was no significant difference between the two groups in the duration of chest tube (P = 0.587), postoperative complications (P = 1.000), and the duration of postoperative hospital stay (P = 0.141)., Conclusion: For large thymic epithelial tumors, RATS thymectomy can be performed safely and effectively in a radical fashion. Atmospheric turbulence has an adverse impact on orbital angular momentum (OAM) beam transmission, resulting in power fluctuations and mode crosstalk. These challenges are particularly pronounced in OAM multiplexing links. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a novel network architecture that integrates convolutional layers and residual structures to address the issue of turbulence phase compensation. By harnessing the local feature learning capability of convolutional layers and the information-preserving function of residual structures, we aim to mitigate the adverse effects of network depth on information loss. By employing the proposed network, we compensate the turbulence phase directly using the received intensity distributions for free space multiplexed integer and fractional order OAM links, respectively. The obtained results show that the received optical power can be improved for more than 10 dB for integer order OAM multiplexed FSO links under weak to strong turbulence conditions, while 9 dB for fractional-order OAM multiplexed FSO links. Moreover, mode crosstalk can be reduced for about 10 dB under 4 OAM modes multiplexed links under turbulence strength D/r0=5. The proposed deep learning based atmospheric turbulence compensation method can predict phase screens rapidly and accurately, thus enhancing the dependability of future OAM multiplexing technology.

Background: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Xingnaojing combined with naloxone in the treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning., Methods: By retrieving the literatures published in the databases of PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Embase, Wanfang Database, Weipu Database, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure from January 2010 to September 2021, the data of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of Xingnaojing combined with naloxone in the treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning were extracted. The methodological quality of the included RCTs was evaluated by using the tools of bias risk evaluation of Cochrane Collaboration, and the data were statistically analyzed by using RevMan 5.3 software., Results: A total of 20 literatures were included, involving in 771 cases treated by Xingnaojing combined with naloxone and 761 cases in the control group. The effective rate of the experimental group is higher than that of the control group [risk ratio (RR) = 1.20, 95% confidence interval (CI) (1.14, 1.26)]. The average awake time (STD mean difference = -2.08, 95% CI [-2.60, -1.56]), physical recovery time (STD mean difference = -2.94, 95% CI [-3.59, -2.28]), delayed encephalopathy (RR = 0.44, 95% CI [0.31, 0.62]), and adverse reactions (RR = 0.23, 95% CI [0.10, 0.54]) was lower than that of the control group., Conclusion: Xingnaojing combined with naloxone in the treatment of carbon monoxide poisoning is significantly superior to naloxone, but it still needs to be further verified by high-quality large samples of RCTs., Competing Interests: The authors have no funding and conflicts of interest to disclose., (Copyright © 2023 the Author(s). Electrohydrodynamic jet (E-Jet) printing technology provides unmatched advantages in the fabrication of patterned micro/nanostructures. However, the rapid jets generated during printing can lead to localized droplet accumulation on complex structures due to the relatively slow motion control achieved with motorized translation stages, resulting in distorted patterns. To address this challenge, we introduce two jet-deflecting electrodes orthogonally placed on each other, which can rapidly change the electric field in the vicinity of the jet and thus flexibly adjust the flight trajectory of the fast jet to avoid the region where droplets have been deposited. In this way, the jet droplets are precisely controlled to generate high-fidelity microstructures with arbitrary predefined patterns on the stationary substrate. The maximum deflection distance of the jet droplets reaches several hundred microns. Furthermore, the positioning error of the printed structure is less than 3%. Moreover, we successfully obtained a diverse range of complex patterns by combining this technique with stage motion. This innovative printing technology not only enables the fabrication of complex patterned structures with high fidelity but also opens up exciting possibilities for new applications that require complete control of fast droplet positioning.

The rising incidence of health-endangering obesity constantly calls for more effective treatments. Gastric intramural injection of botulinum neurotoxin A (BTX-A) as a new modality carries great promise yet inconsistent therapeutic efficacy. A layer-specific delivery strategy enabled by dissolving microneedles is hence pioneered to investigate the working site of BTX-A and the resulting therapeutic effects. The drug-loaded tips of the layer-specific gastric paralysis microneedles (LGP-MN) rapidly release and achieve uniform distribution of BTX-A within the designated gastric wall layers. In an obesity rat model, the LGP-MNs not only prove safer than conventional injection, but also demonstrate consistently better therapeutic effects with muscular layer delivery, including 16.23% weight loss (3.06-fold enhancement from conventional injection), 55.20% slower gastric emptying rate, improved liver steatosis, lowered blood lipids, and healthier gut microbiota. Further hormonal study reveals that the elevated production of stomach-derived glucagon-like peptide-1 due to the muscularis-targeting LGP-MN treatment is an important contributor to its unique glucose tolerance-improving effect. This study provides clear indication of the gastric muscularis as the most favorable working site of BTX-A for weight loss and metabolic improvement purposes, and meanwhile suggests that the LGP-MNs could serve as a novel clinical approach to treat obesity and metabolic syndromes., (© 2023 The Authors. Objective: Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is currently the main cause of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions in women. The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of HPV genotypes among women in Yueyang city and to provide a basis for the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer in this city., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 125,604 women who had received treatment from eight hospitals in Yueyang city from September 2019 to September 2022. Analysis of the prevalence of HPV in patients., Results: The prevalence of HPV was 20.5% (95%CI: 20.2-20.7%), of which the high-risk type (HR-HPV) accounted for 17.5% (95%CI: 17.3-17.7%) and the low-risk type (LR-HPV) accounted for 5.0% (95%CI: 4.9-5.1%). Among the HR-HPV subtypes, the top five in prevalence, from the highest to the lowest, were HPV52 (5.1%), HPV16(2.7%), HPV58 (2.6%), HPV53 (2.4%), and HPV51 (1.7%). The main LR-HPV infection types were HPV81 (2,676 cases, OR = 2.1%; 95%CI, 2.0-2.1%). Among the infected patients, 19,203 cases (OR = 74.3%; 95%CI, 73.8-74.9%) had a single subtype, 4,673 cases (OR = 18.1%; 95%CI, 17.6-18.6%) had two subtypes, and 1957 cases (OR = 7.6%; 95%CI, 7.3-7.9%) had three or more subtypes. HPV prevalence is highest among women <25 years, 55-64 years and ≥ 65 years of age., Conclusion: The prevalence of HPV in women in Yueyang city was 20.5%, with HR-HPV being dominant. Objective: To investigate the immunotherapeutic roles and functions of C-C Motif Chemokine Receptor 8 (CCR8) molecule in gastric cancer (GC). Materials and Methods: Clinicopathological features of 95 GC cases were collected by a follow-up survey. The expression level of CCR8 was measured by immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining and analyzed with the cancer genome atlas database. The relationship between CCR8 expression and Clinicopathological features of GC cases was evaluated by univariate and multivariate analysis. Flow cytometry was used to determine the expression of cytokines and the proliferation of CD4 + regulator T cells (Tregs) and CD8 + T cells. Results: An upregulated expression of CCR8 in GC tissues was associated with tumor grade, nodal metastasis, and overall survival (OS). Tumor-infiltrated Tregs with higher expression of CCR8 produced more IL10 molecules in vitro . In addition, anti-CCR8 blocking downregulated IL10 expression produced by CD4 + Tregs, and reversed the suppression by Tregs on the secretion and proliferation of CD8 + T cells. Conclusion: CCR8 molecule could be a prognostic biomarker for GC cases and a therapeutic target for immune treatments.

(+)-Sarcanan A ( 1a ) and (-)-Sarcanan A ( 1b ), a pair of new dihydrobenzofuran neolignan enantiomers, together with six known compounds ( 2 - 7 ), were isolated from the aerial parts of Sarcandra glabra . Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute configurations of 1a and 1b were determined by analyses of the electronic circular dichroism (ECD) data. All compounds were evaluated for their inhibitory effects on the nitric oxide (NO) production induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in RAW264.7 cells, and compounds 2 - 4 exhibited moderate inhibition against NO production.

The health risk of microplastics (MPs) is a growing global concern. Evidence of reproductive health damage caused by the accumulation of MPs in males is still lacking. In the present study, 6 testis and 30 semen samples were collected, and MPs were detected using both pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) and laser direct infrared spectroscopy (LD-IR). The results showed that MPs were detected in both testis and semen, with an average abundance of 0.23 ± 0.45 particles/mL in semen and 11.60 ± 15.52 particles/g in testis. Microplastics in the testis were composed of polystyrene (PS) with 67.7 %, while polyethylene (PE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) were the predominant polymers in semen. Compared to fragments, fiber, and film detected in semen, the fragment was the main shape the in testis. The sizes of these microplastics ranged from 21.76 μm to 286.71 μm, and most (67 % and 80.6 %) were 20-100 μm in semen and testis. Purpose: To evaluate and compare the outcomes of supraclavicular lymph node dissection plus radiotherapy (RT) and RT alone for patients with synchronous ipsilateral supraclavicular lymph node metastasis., Methods: In all, 293 patients with synchronous ipsilateral supraclavicular lymph node metastasis across three centers were included. Of these, 85 (29.0%) received supraclavicular lymph node dissection plus RT (Surgery + RT) and 208 (71.0%) received RT alone. All patients received preoperative systemic therapy followed by mastectomy or lumpectomy and axillary dissection. Supraclavicular recurrence-free survival (SCRFS), locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRRFS), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), disease-free survival (DFS), and overall survival (OS) were evaluated by using the Kaplan-Meier method and multivariate Cox models. Multiple imputation was used for missing data., Results: The median follow-up duration of the RT and Surgery + RT groups were 53.7 and 63.5 months, respectively. For the RT and Surgery + RT groups, the 5-year SCRFS rates were 91.7% vs. 85.5% (P = 0.522), LRRFS rates were 79.1% vs. 73.1% (P = 0.412), DMFS rates were 60.4 vs. 58.8% (P = 0.708), DFS rates were 57.6% vs. 49.7% (P = 0.291), and OS rates were 71.9% vs. 62.2% (P = 0.272), respectively. There was no significant effect on any outcome when comparing Surgery + RT versus RT alone in the multivariate analysis. Based on four risk factors of DFS, patients were classified into three risk groups: the intermediate- and high-risk groups had significantly lower survival outcomes than the low-risk group. Surgery + RT did not improve outcomes of any risk group compared with RT alone., Conclusions: Patients with synchronous ipsilateral supraclavicular lymph node metastasis may not benefit from supraclavicular lymph node dissection. Overuse of antimicrobial agents are generally considered to be a key factor in the occurrence of antibiotic resistance bacteria (ARB). Nevertheless, it is unclear whether ARB can be induced by non-antibiotic chemicals such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Thus, the objective of this study is to investigate whether NSAID diclofenac (DCF) promote the emergence of antibiotic resistance in Escherichia coli K12 MG1655. Our results suggested that DCF induced the occurrence of ARB which showed hereditary stability of resistance. Meanwhile, gene variation was identified on chromosome of the ARB, and DCF can cause bacterial oxidative stress and SOS response. Subsequently, transcriptional levels of antioxidant (soxS, sodA, sodC, gor, katG, ahpF) and SOS (recA, lexA, uvrA, uvrB, ruvA, ruvB, dinB, umuC, polB) system-related genes were enhanced. However, the expression of related genes cannot be increased in high-dosage treatment compared with low-dosage samples because of cytotoxicity and cellular damage. Simultaneously, high-dosage DCF decreased the mutation frequency but enhanced the resistance of mutants. Our findings expand our knowledge of the promoting effect on the emergence of ARB caused by DCF. Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) technology can effectively extend the lifecycle of energy-constrained networks. In order to improve the energy harvesting (EH) efficiency and network performance in secure SWIPT networks, this paper studies the resource allocation problem based on the quantitative EH mechanism in the secure SWIPT network. Based on a quantitative EH mechanism and nonlinear EH model, a quantified power-splitting (QPS) receiver architecture is designed. This architecture is applied in the multiuser multi-input single-output secure SWIPT network. With the goal of maximizing the network throughput, the optimization problem model is established under the conditions of meeting the legal user's signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR), EH requirements, the total transmit power of the base station, and the security SINR threshold constraints. Due to the coupling of variables, the problem is a nonconvex optimization problem. To deal with the nonconvex optimization problem, a hierarchical optimization method is adopted. Firstly, an optimization algorithm based on the optimal received power of EH circuit is proposed, and a power mapping table is constructed through the optimization algorithm, from which the optimal power ratio to meet the user's EH requirements is obtained; then, the nonconvex problem is transformed into a convex problem by using variable substitution, semidefinite relaxation, dichotomous optimization, etc. The simulation results show that compared with the power splitting receiver architecture, the input power threshold range of the QPS receiver architecture is larger, which can avoid the EH circuit falling into the saturated working area and maintain high network throughput.

Poly( p -phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA) and ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) are high-performance polymer materials largely used for body armor applications. Although composite structures from a combination of PPTA and UHMWPE have been created and described in the literature, the manufacture of layered composites from PPTA fabrics and UHMWPE films with UHMWPE film as an adhesive layer has not been reported. Such a new design can provide the obvious advantage of simple manufacturing technology. In this study, for the first time, we prepared PPTA fabrics/UHMWPE films laminate panels using plasma treatment and hot-pressing and examined their ballistic performance. Ballistic testing results indicated that samples with moderate interlayer adhesion between PPTA and UHMWPE layers exhibited enhanced performance. A further increase in interlayer adhesion showed a reverse effect. This finding implies that optimization of interface adhesion is essential to achieve maximum impact energy absorption through the delamination process. In addition, it was found that the stacking sequence of the PPTA and UHMWPE layers affected ballistic performance. Samples with PPTA as the outermost layer performed better than those with UHMWPE as the outermost layer. Furthermore, microscopy of the tested laminate samples showed that PPTA fibers exhibited shear cutting failure on the entrance side and tensile failure on the exit side of the panel. UHMWPE films exhibited brittle failure and thermal damage at high compression strain rate on the entrance side and tensile fracture on the exit side. For the first time, findings from this study reported in-field bullet testing results of PPTA/UHMWPE composite panels, which can provide important insights for designing, fabricating, and failure analysis of such composite structures for body armors.

Twisted light carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM), which features a helical phase front, has shown its potential applications in diverse areas, especially in free-space optical (FSO) communications. Multiple orthogonal OAM beams can be utilized to enable high-capacity FSO communication systems. However, for practical OAM-based FSO communication links, atmospheric turbulence will cause serious power fluctuations and inter-model crosstalk between the multiplexed OAM channels, impairing link performance. In this paper, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel OAM mode-group multiplexing (OAM-MGM) scheme with transmitter mode diversity to increase system reliability under turbulence. Without adding extra system complexity, an FSO system transmitting two OAM groups with a total of 144 Gbit/s discrete multi-tone (DMT) signal is demonstrated under turbulence strength D/r0 of 1, 2, and 4. In our experiments, the proposed OAM-MGM scheme helps to achieve bit-error-rate (BER) mostly less than 3.8 × 10 -3 under turbulence strength D/r0 of 1 and 2 with a total transmitted power of 10 dBm. Compared with the conventional OAM mode multiplexed system, the system interruption probability decreases from 28% to 4% under moderate turbulence strength D/r0 of 2.

Microplastics are ubiquitous in all environmental compartments, including food and water. A growing body of evidence suggests the potential health impacts of continuous microplastic ingestion on humans. However, a lack of information on microplastic exposure to humans through drinking water and the high heterogeneity of available data limits advancements in health risk assessments. In the present study, laser direct infrared spectroscopy (LD-IR) was used to determine the occurrence of microplastics in bottled water sold in China. Then, the ingestion level of microplastics through drinking water was estimated. The results showed that the average microplastic abundance in bottled water was 72.32 ± 44.64 items/L, which was higher than that detected in tap water (49.67 ± 17.49 items/L). Overall, the microplastic structures were dominated by films and mainly consisted of cellulose and PVC. Their sizes were concentrated in the range of 10-50 μm, accounting for 67.85 ± 8.40 % of the total microplastics in bottled water and 75.50 % in tap water. The estimated daily intake of microplastics (EDI) by infants through bottled water and tap water was almost twice as high as that by adults, although adults ingested more microplastics. Context: Gastric cancer (GC) remains one of the most prevalent malignancies worldwide, and no effective cure exists for advanced GC. Clinicians believe that molecularly targeted therapy through PCGs may replace surgery, radiotherapy, and other treatments as a breakthrough in curing malignancies., Objective: The study intended to examine the impact of aberrant expression of the protein-coding genes (PCGs) associated with regulatory T cells on the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer (GC)., Design: The research team performed a genetic study through research of genetic data in online databases., Setting: The study took place at Zhongda Hospital., Outcome Measures: The research team selected a publicly available dataset, genetic suppressor element 109476 (GSE109476), from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database for differential gene analysis, gene ontology (GO) analysis, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis to screen for PCGs associated with regulatory T cells as well as the Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) database with the Kaplan-Meier Plotter database to analyze the expression of the above PCGs in GC and the prognostic impact on GC., Results: The GEO2R analysis found 315 differentially expressed PCGs in GSE109476, among which nine PCGs were associated with regulatory T cells: (1) chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 19 (CCL19), (2) CCL21, (3) C-C chemokine receptor type 7 (CCR7), (4) cluster of differentiation 70 (CD70), (5) ephrin B3 (EFNB3), (6) early growth response 3 (EGR3), (7) interleukin-7 receptor (IL7R), (8) galectin-1 (LGALS1), and (9) tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily member 13C (TNFRSF13C). The GEPIA database indicated that no significant differences existed between the expression of CCL19, CCL21, CD70, EFNB3, EGR3, IL7R, and TNFRSF13C in stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD) tissues and that in normal tissues (P > .05), while expressions of CCR7 and LGALS1 were significantly elevated in STAD tissues compared to the normal tissues (P < .05). The Kaplan-Meier Plotter database analysis, on the other hand, showed a significant relationship between all of the above-mentioned PCGs, except CCL19, and the prognosis of GC., Conclusions: CCL19, CCL21, CCR7, CD70, EFNB3, EGR3, IL7R, LGALS1, and TNFRSF13C are PCGs are differentially expressed in GC and closely associated with regulatory T cells. They may affect the occurrence and development of GC through a variety of pathways, including regulation of immune infiltration and inflammation, and are of great potential research value.
