Background: An accurate assessment of pressure injury healing is crucial for the timely implementation of nursing intervention. This study aimed to investigate the accuracy of infrared thermography-based wound temperature measurement in predicting wound outcomes., Methods: This prospective, 16 days observational study included 156 adults with pressure injury. The temperature of wound bed, periwound skin and normal skin was recorded by using infrared thermography every three days. After that, three relative temperatures of PI were analyzed. The aim was to assess the significance of wound temperature in predicting healing outcomes for pressure injuries., Results: Relative temperature between periwound skin and normal skin was positively correlated with pressure injury healing (r > 0.64). Particularly the first day of follow up, it was found to be closely related to pressure injury healing (r = 0.687). On the last day and median time (the eighth to ninth day) of follow up, the optimal cutoff values of the indicator were negative values (periwound skin temperature was lower than normal skin). COX proportional hazard regression model analysis showed that relative temperature between periwound skin and normal skin on the first day of follow-up was the most significant predictor of pressure injury healing, and the healing risk increased largest- 8.79 times (95%CI: 4.53, 17.05), when its temperature greater than 0.000 °C., Conclusion: Relative temperature between periwound skin and normal skin monitoring by infrared thermography better than visual assessment which can objectively serve as an indicator for predicting the healing status of pressure injury., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare no conflicts of interest., (Copyright © 2025 The Authors. Background: Compassion among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses is an essential component of humanistic care in the ICU However, the enormous pressures of the job and the lack of social support have led to persistently severe compassion fatigue. Sensory processing sensitivity, as a personality trait for individuals to perceive external factors, has underlying significance for compassion fatigue., Aims: This study aims to investigate the internal and external environmental factors and the underlying mechanisms that influence the impact of sensory processing sensitivity among ICU nurses on the development of compassion fatigue., Study Design: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 290 nurses from various hospitals in five cities in China., Method: A self-designed demographic questionnaire, the Chinese version of the Professional Quality of Life Scale, the Chinese version of the Highly Sensitive Person Scale, the Chinese version of the Perceived Social Support Scale, and the Chinese version of the Perceived Stress Scale were used to survey 290 ICU nurses. The mediating roles of perceived social support and perceived stress between sensory processing sensitivity and compassion fatigue were tested., Results: The research results indicate that the total effect of sensory processing sensitivity on compassion fatigue is significant (0.245 [0.093, 1.160]), whereas the direct effect of sensory processing sensitivity on compassion fatigue is not significant (-0.43 [-0.402, 0.247]). Perceived social support and perceived stress exhibit serial mediating effects between sensory processing sensitivity and compassion fatigue (-0.065 [-0.142, -0.013])., Conclusion: Our results revealed, for the first time, the underlying mechanism between sensory processing sensitivity and compassion fatigue among ICU nurses. Objective: To determine nursing costs for intensive care unit (ICU) patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD), assess the correlation with diagnosis-related group (DRG) payments and identify cost determinants., Design: Prospective, descriptive and quantitative study., Methods: From January to December 2022, we selected ICU patients with AECOPD and used time-driven activity-based costing method to calculate the overall nursing costs. We examined the cost recovery rate, correlations between nursing costs and DRG Relative Weight, and factors influencing nursing costs using nonparametric tests, Spearman's rank correlation and quantile regression., Results: The median nursing charge was US$1001.88, the median nursing cost was US$678.51, and the average cost recovery rate was 68.39%. Nursing costs correlated with the DRG Relative Weight but not with payments. Length of stay, oxygen therapy mode and noninvasive ventilator use days impacted costs., Conclusions: Nursing costs exceeded charges, with a moderate cost recovery rate. DRG payments do not fully reflect nursing cost variations., Relevance to Clinical Practice: Our findings indicate the need to enhance the reimbursement system for nursing costs and to manage ICU nursing expenses by addressing the determinants of these costs., Reporting Method: The authors adhered to the EQUATOR network guidelines STROBE to report observational cross-sectional studies., (© 2024 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.)
