Background: The aim of this project is to evaluate public contributors' experiences of their involvement in qualitative data analysis workshops during an on-going research project titled 'Personalised Primary care for Patients with Multiple long-term conditions'., Methods: Four qualitative data analysis workshops were designed and conducted between August and December 2023. We used the Cube evaluation framework (henceforth referred to as the Cube) to evaluate the workshops. The Cube suggests four domains for successful PPI (voice, agenda, change, contribute).Within Workshops One, Two and Three public contributors had to login to an account to access the Cube; this was modified in Workshop Four following feedback from public contributors., Findings: Across the four workshops the Cube was completed 11 times. Across all four workshops, public contributors thought that their voice was heard, that there were diverse ways to contribute and that they led the agenda. Public contributors thought that researchers responded to their questions and issues, when necessary., Conclusion: This evaluation has shown that public contributors can gain new skills and lead qualitative data analysis discussions., (© 2024. Atomically precise nanoclusters hold promise for supramolecular assembly and (opto)electronic- as well as magnetic materials. Herein, this work reports that treating palladium(0) precursors with a triphosphirane affords strongly colored Pd 8 (PDip) 6 that is fully characterized by mass spectrometry, heteronuclear and Cross-Polarization Magic-Angle Spinning (CP-MAS) NMR-, infrared (IR), UV-vis, and X-ray photoelectron (XP) spectroscopies, single-crystal X-Ray diffraction (sc-XRD), mass spectrometry, and cyclovoltammetry (CV). This coordinatively unsaturated 104-electron Pd(0) cluster features a cubic Pd 8 -core, µ 4 -capping phosphinidene ligands, and is air-stable. Quantum chemical calculations provide insight to the cluster's electronic structure and suggest 5s/4d orbital mixing as well as minor Pd─P covalency. Trapping experiments reveal that cluster growth proceeds via insertion of Pd(0) into the triphosphirane. The unsaturated cluster senses ethylene and binds isocyanides, which triggers the rearrangement to a tetrahedral structure with a reduced frontier orbital energy gap. These experiments demonstrate facile cluster manipulation and highlight non-destructive cluster rearrangement as is required for supramolecular assembly., (© 2024 The Authors. DNA is widely used as building block material for the construction of polyhedral nanostructures. DNA polyhedrons (DNA prism, cube, and square pyramid) are small 3D wireframed nanostructures with tunable shapes and sizes. Despite substantial progress in synthesis, the study regarding cellular responses to DNA polyhedrons is limited. Herein, the molecular interaction between DNA polyhedrons and the antioxidant enzyme, catalase has been explored. The enzymatic activity of bovine liver catalase (BLC) remains unaltered in the presence of DNA polyhedrons after 1 h of incubation. However, the activity of BLC was protected after 24 h of incubation in the presence of DNA polyhedrons as compared to the natural unfolding. The kinetics study confirmed the protective role of DNA polyhedrons on BLC with lower K M and higher catalytic efficiency. Furthermore, no profound conformational changes of BLC occur in the presence of DNA polyhedrons as observed in spectroscopic studies. From fluorescence quenching data we confirmed the binding between DNA polyhedrons and BLC. The thermodynamic parameters indicate that non-covalent bonds played a major role during the interaction of BLC with DNA polyhedrons. Moreover, the hepatic catalase activity remains unaltered in the presence of DNA polyhedrons. The cytotoxicity assay revealed that DNA polyhedrons were biocompatible in the cellular environment. Single crystallization of LiNi x Co y Mn 1-x-y O 2 (NCM) is currently an effective strategy to improve the cycling life of NCM cathode, owing to the reduced surface area and enhanced mechanical strength, but the application of single crystal NCM(SC-NCM) is being hindered by severe particle agglomeration and poor C-rate performance. Here, a strategy of three-section-sintering(TSS) with the presence of grain-growth inhibitor was proposed, in which, the TSS includes three sections of phase-formation, grain-growth and phase-preservation. While, the addition of MoO 3 inhibits the grain growth and restrains the particle agglomeration. With the help of TSS and 1 mol % of MoO 3 , highly dispersed surface Mo-doped SC-NCM(MSC-NCM) cubes are obtained with the average diameter of 1.3 μm. Benefiting from the surface Mo-doping and the reduced surface energy, the Li + -migration preferred (1 0 4) crystalline facet is exposed as the dominant plane in MSC-NCM cubes, because of which, C-rate performance is significantly improved compared with the regular SC-NCM. Purpose: Accurate assessment of dural sinus, deep and cortical venous thrombosis on MR imaging is challenging. The aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of 3D-T1 turbo spin echo (T1S), sequences in detecting venous thrombosis and comparing it with susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI), magnetic resonance venography (MRV) and post contrast T1 magnetization-prepared rapid acquisition gradient echo (T1C)., Methods: A blinded retrospective observational analysis of 71 consecutive patients evaluated for cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) and 30 control patients was performed. Multimodality reference standard adopted included T1C, SWI with MRV. Sub-analyses in superficial, deep and cortical venous segments were performed in addition to correlation of signal intensity of thrombus with the clinical stage., Results: A total of 2222 segments in 101 complete MRI examinations were evaluated. Sensitivity/specificity/positive predictive value/negative predictive value/accuracy and precision of T1S for detection of cortical vein thrombosis was 0.994/1/1/0.967/0.995/1, 1/0.874/0.949/1/0.963/0.950 for detection of superficial venous sinus thrombosis and 1/1/1/1/1/1 for deep venous thrombosis. The AUC yield for T1S was 0.997 for cortical, 1 for deep and 0.988 for superficial venous segments., Conclusion: T1S paralleled the accuracy of conventional sequences in the overall detection of CVT but showed superior accuracy in the detection of cortical venous thrombosis. It makes a fitting addition to the CVT MRI protocol in scenarios demanding negation of gadolinium administration., (© 2023. Purpose: This study compares the performance of a 4-min multi-echo in steady-state acquisition (MENSA) with a 6-min fast spin echo with variable flip angle (CUBE) protocol for the assessment of lumbosacral plexus nerve root lesions., Methods: Seventy-two subjects underwent MENSA and CUBE sequences on a 3.0-T MRI scanner. Two musculoskeletal radiologists independently assessed the images for quality and diagnostic capability. A qualitative assessment scoring system for image quality and quantitative nerve signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and iliac vein and muscle contrast-to-noise ratios (CNR) was applied. Using surgical reports as the reference, sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUC) were evaluated. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and weighted kappa were used to calculate reliability., Results: MENSA image quality rating (3.679 ± 0.47) was higher than for CUBE images (3.038 ± 0.68), and MENSA showed higher mean nerve root SNR (36.935 ± 8.33 vs. 27.777 ± 7.41), iliac vein CNR (24.678 ± 6.63 vs. 5.210 ± 3.93), and muscle CNR (19.414 ± 6.07 vs. 13.531 ± 0.65) than CUBE (P < 0.05). Weighted kappa and ICC values indicated good reliability. Sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of diagnosis based on MENSA images were 96.23%, 89.47%, and 94.44%, respectively, and AUC was 0.929, compared with 92.45%, 84.21%, 90.28%, and 0.883 for CUBE images. The two correlated ROC curves were not significantly different. Weighted kappa values for intraobserver (0.758) and interobserver (0.768-0.818) reliability were substantial to perfect., Conclusion: A time-efficient 4-min MENSA protocol exhibits superior image quality and high vascular contrast with the potential to produce high-resolution lumbosacral nerve root images., (© 2023. Objective; We aimed to assess whole-brain imaging with contrast-enhanced (CE) 3- dimensional (3D) Cube T1WI in improving the diagnostic accuracy of acute optic neuritis (ON) compared to conventional CE 2-dimensional (2D) T1WI., Methods: At a field strength of 3 T, CE 3D Cube T1-weighted and conventional CE 2D T1- weighted MR images were retrospectively analyzed for 32 patients (64 optic nerves) with clinically confirmed acute ON. The study cohort included 36 pathological nerves. Image assessments including the overall image quality, clarity of the optic nerve, and visual contrast enhancement were performed by two blinded neuroradiologists using a 4-point scale. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of the conventional 2D T1WI and 3D Cube T1WI were calculated according to the clinical diagnosis., Results: The application of 3D Cube T1WI improved the overall image quality compared to 2D Ax T1WI and 2D Cor T1WI (P < 0.05). The clarity of the optic nerve and the visual contrast enhancement were higher for the 3D Cube T1WI compared to the 2D Ax T1WI and 2D Cor T1WI for at least one reader. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 89%, 86%, 88% for the 3D Cube T1WI respectively, and 75%, 79%, 77% for the conventional 2D T1WI respectively. Purpose: To explore the feasibility of high-resolution MRI 3-dimensional (3D) CUBE T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in combination with non-contrast-enhanced (NCE) magnetic resonance venography (MRV) for the assessment of lumen stenosis in May-Thurner syndrome., Methods: Twenty-nine patients underwent computed tomography venography (CTV) and high-resolution MRI-CUBE T1, and NCE MRV acquisitions. ANOVA and LSD tests were used to compare the stenosis rate and narrowest and distal diameters of the vessel lumen., Results: There were no significant differences in the estimated stenosis rate between CTV, CUBE T1, and NCE MRV (p = 0.768). However, there were significant differences in the measured stenosis diameters of the left common iliac vein (LCIV), with CTV giving the largest mean diameter and CUBE had the smallest mean diameter (p < 0.05). The measured normal LCIV diameters did not significantly differ between MRV and CUBE (p = 0.075) but were significantly larger on CTV than on MRV and CUBE (p < 0.05)., Conclusions: Compared with CTV, a combination of CUBE and MRV could provide an improved assessment of the degree of lumen stenosis in May-Thurner syndrome and demonstrate acute thrombosis. MRI underestimates the diameter of the vessel in comparison with CTV. MRI can be a substitute tool for Duplex ultrasound and CTV.

Cube texture and microstructural evolution of as-cast non-oriented silicon steel (1.3% Si) during cold rolling and annealing were studied. The results showed that the as-cast microstructure with grain size in the range of 100-500 μm had a weak texture. The strong orientation was mainly located at {100} and {110} planes. A significant content of shear-deformed grains oriented with {110}<110> were obtained by cold-rolling, and many regions oriented with Cube texture were distributed in the shear bands. During cold-rolling, the orientation of the shear-deformed microstructure tilted towards the {111}<112> orientation, while the matrix orientation retained {110}<110>. On further cold-rolling, the residual part of {110}<110> experienced shear deformation, forming more shear bands, strengthening the Cube orientation. During annealing, Cube orientation grains nucleated in the shear bands leading to strong Cube texture, and corresponding B 50 was 1.83T/1.79T.

The urgent need of catalysts with improved performances toward the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is still one of the crucial issues for the water splitting electrocatalysis. Herein, we exhibit that the HER activity of the Pd nanocubes could be improved by selecting the appropriately shaped titania nanocrystals as support. In particular, we used Pd nanoparticles with (100)-facet exposed to show that the HER performance of Pd cubes can be improved in both acidic and alkaline electrolyte media when combined on the anatase TiO 2 nanocrystals. Furthermore, we have also investigated the facet effect of TiO 2 on the performance in detail, which indicated stronger catalytic activity when (001)-TiO 2 was used rather than (mix 101/001)-TiO 2 and (101)-TiO 2 . The electron-transfer-induced improvement of HER activity of Pd/TiO 2 was assessed by electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). Thereafter, the combined support materials with suitable facet exposed can give an additional adjusting path to regulate the HER activities of Pd nanocatalysts, which henceforth can further contribute to a novel way for tuning other catalysts with good electrocatalytic properties.

Early detection of brain metastases and differentiation from other neuropathologies is crucial. Although biopsy is often required for definitive diagnosis, imaging can provide useful information. After treatment commences, imaging is also performed to assess the efficacy of treatment. Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the traditional imaging method for the evaluation of brain metastases, as it provides information about lesion size, morphology, and macroscopic properties. Newer MRI sequences have been developed to increase the conspicuity of detecting enhancing metastases. Other advanced MRI techniques, that have the capability to probe beyond the anatomic structure, are available to characterize micro-structures, cellularity, physiology, perfusion, and metabolism. Artificial intelligence provides powerful computational tools for detection, segmentation, classification, prediction, and prognosis. We highlight and review a few advanced MRI techniques for the assessment of brain metastases-specifically for (1) diagnosis, including differentiating between malignancy types and (2) evaluation of treatment response, including the differentiation between radiation necrosis and disease progression., (Copyright © 2020 Tong, McCullagh and Iv.)

Finite or periodic structures containing the cube motif can be synthesized and transformed into a variety of structures both at the theoretical and real, experimental level. The rhombellation topo-geometric operation may be used to transform the cube-shape into larger units and then build light (spongy) structures with larger voids. Hyper-clusters are polyhedral structures which nodes are polyhedral structures (the same or different ones). The paper presents some hypothetical spongy structures related to the cubic primitive pcu -net, with defects induced by cutting-off some atoms and/or bonds so that only corners are shared between two cubes. A diamondoid hyper-structure containing cube-coalesced corners was proposed for an eventual synthesis. The discussed structures are described in topological terms, particularly by sequential vertex connectivity and ring environment.

Porous metal structures have emerged as a promising solution in repairing and replacing damaged bone in biomedical applications. With the advent of additive manufacturing technology, fabrication of porous scaffold architecture of different unit cell types with desired parameters can replicate the biomechanical properties of the natural bone, thereby overcoming the issues, such as stress shielding effect, to avoid implant failure. The purpose of this research was to investigate the influence of cube and gyroid unit cell types, with pore size ranging from 300 to 600 µm, on porosity and mechanical behavior of titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) scaffolds. Scaffold samples were modeled and analyzed using finite element analysis (FEA) following the ISO standard (ISO 13314). Selective laser melting (SLM) process was used to manufacture five samples of each type. Morphological characterization of samples was performed through micro CT Scan system and the samples were later subjected to compression testing to assess the mechanical behavior of scaffolds. Numerical and experimental analysis of samples show porosity greater than 50% for all types, which is in agreement with desired porosity range of natural bone. Mechanical properties of samples depict that values of elastic modulus and yield strength decreases with increase in porosity, with elastic modulus reduced up to 3 GPa and yield strength decreased to 7 MPa. However, while comparing with natural bone properties, only cube and gyroid structure with pore size 300 µm falls under the category of giving similar properties to that of natural bone. Analysis of porous scaffolds show promising results for application in orthopedic implants. Application of optimum scaffold structures to implants can reduce the premature failure of implants and increase the reliability of prosthetics.

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of three-dimensional fast spin-echo (3D FSE-Cube) without fat suppression (NFS) for detecting knee lesions, using comparison to 3D FSE-Cube with fat suppression (FS)., Materials and Methods: One hundred twenty-four patients who underwent 1.5T knee magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans and 25 subsequent arthroscopic surgeries were retrospectively reviewed. Using arthroscopic results and two-dimensional images as reference standards, diagnostic performances of 3D FSE-Cube-NFS and FS imaging about lesions of ligament, meniscus, subchondral bone marrow edema (BME), and cartilage were compared. Scan parameters of 3D FSE-Cube imaging were previously optimized by a porcine knee phantom., Results: No significant differences were observed between detection rates of NFS and FS imaging for detecting lesions of meniscus and cartilage (p>0.05). However, NFS imaging had lower sensitivity for detection of medial collateral ligament (MCL) tears, and lower sensitivity and specificity for detection of BME lesions, compared to FS imaging (p<0.05)., Conclusion: 3D FSE-Cube-NFS imaging showed similar diagnostic performance for detecting lesions of meniscus or cartilage compared to FS imaging, unlike MCL or BME lesions., Competing Interests: The authors have no financial conflicts of interest., (© Copyright: Yonsei University College of Medicine 2017)

Objective: To calculate T1ρ and T2 values of articular cartilage and menisci in knee joints of patients with RA, and compare the values between RA patients and healthy volunteers, to gain insight into the pathogenesis of cartilage and meniscus degradation in patients with RA., Materials and Methods: Nine patients with RA and knee joints symptoms were enrolled in the study, twenty healthy volunteers without knee joint diseases were included as controls. Sagittal fat-saturated T1ρ and T2 mapping images were obtained on a 3T MR scanner (GE750, GE Healthcare, Waukesha, WI), using a dedicated 8-channel knee coil. In the T1rho mapping sequence, the amplitude of the spin-lock pulse was 500Hz, spin lock durations=10/20/30/50ms. In the T2 mapping sequence,TR/TE were 1794/6.5, 13.4, 27, 40.7ms. Both sequences were performed with the following parameters: flip angle (FA)=90°, matrix: 320×256, FOV: 16×16cm 2 , slice thickness: 3mm, bandwidth: 62.5kHZ, and a total scan time of 5:11min. T1ρ- and T2-mapping images were used for the segmentation of the articular cartilage of the patella, femoral trochlea, medial and lateral femoral condyle, medial and lateral tibial plateau. These images were also used for the segmentation of the anterior and posterior horns of the medial and lateral menisci with livewire semi-automatic segmentation algorithm of MATLAB. A Mann-Whitney U test was performed to compare the T1ρ and T2 values of the above mentioned regions between the two groups., Results: T1ρ (Z=-3.913 to -2.121, P=0.000-0.034) and T2 (Z=-3.866 to -2.216, P=0.000-0.026) values of knee cartilage in patients with RA were higher than that in healthy volunteers, except the cartilage of the patella (T1ρ: Z=-1.273, P=0.203,T2: Z=-0.236, P=0.814) and lateral tibial plateau (T1ρ:Z=-1.037, P=0.317). The T1ρ (Z=-1.462 to 0.572, P=0.095-0.908) and T2 (Z=-1.461 to 0.278, P=0.153-0.764) values of medial and lateral menisci showed no difference between the two groups., Conclusion: Patients with RA exhibit diffuse knee cartilage destruction in the medial and lateral tibiofemoral joints and in the femoral trochlea. Background: In this paper we describe ARES 118, the prehospital Emergency Medical Service of the Region Lazio, Italy, focusing on its data system used to populate a data warehouse and to create ad hoc reports. ARES 118 is a regional public mono-specialized health company, established in 2004, that manages the emergency care throughout the Region Lazio., Methods: Being a peculiar company in its kind, and being the first experience of this kind in Italy, ARES 118 has begun to equip itself, in an autonomous way, with a corporate information system, starting from what already existed as data collection from the individual provincial operating Centers and then by activating a unique information system at a regional and company level by deploying a data warehouse. All operations were carried out using open source software., Results: Currently, ARES 118 is equipped with a business information system that enables data collection with its storage, management and processing of the same in fairly and easy way. The system allows the production of specific reports and measures modulated on the user requests in order to highlight the different aspects of the activity., Conclusions: The production of ad hoc reports, with the possibility of developing specific indicators, allows the identification and analysis of critical areas/processes in order to implement any corrective actions and monitor the effectiveness of the sam.

Objective: This article covers the technical aspects and clinical applications of recent advancements in wrist MRI techniques, including T2 and T1rho mapping, compressed sensing, and isotropic 3D imaging using driven equilibrium sequences, variable-flip-angle refocusing pulse sequences, and parallel imaging. The clinical applications of these techniques include the quantitative analysis of cartilage and triangular fibrocartilaginous complex (TFCC) degeneration, faster scanning times, and improved resolution of complex wrist anatomy, allowing differentiation of degenerative from traumatic TFCC tears and improved morphologic evaluation of chondromalacia., Conclusion: MRI of the wrist and of the musculoskeletal system has had multiple novel and exciting advancements in recent years. Several of these advancements, such as parallel imaging, are already in clinical use, and others will be entering the clinical realm in the near future. An understanding of these techniques allows one to use their advantages to greatest effect.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the detectability of neoplastic lesion enhancement after gadolinium-based contrast media injection in three-dimensional T1-weighted black blood Cube (3D-T1W BB Cube) and three-dimensional T1-weighted fast spoiled gradient-echo (3D-T1W fast SPGR) images obtained with 1.5-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)., Materials and Methods: Phantom and clinical studies were performed to compare the lesion detectability and contrast ratio (CR) between 3D-T1W BB Cube and 3D-T1W fast SPGR pulse sequences., Results: In the phantom study, the CRs for 3D-T1W BB Cube and 3D-T1W fast SPGR were equivalent at low gadolinium concentrations (0.125-1.25 mmol/l). In the clinical study, the detectability in the two modalities was similar for enhanced lesions ≥5 mm, but was significantly better in 3D-T1W BB Cube for lesions <5 mm (p = 0.011). Similarly, the CRs in both modalities were similar for lesions ≥5 mm (0.66 ± 0.36 vs. 0.56 ± 0.30, p = 0.153), but significantly lower in 3D-T1W BB Cube images for lesions <5 mm (0.29 ± 0.19 vs. 0.39 ± 0.21, p = 0.006)., Conclusions: Contrast 3D-T1W BB Cube imaging appears more sensitive than 3D-T1W fast SPGR imaging for detecting neoplastic lesion enhancement in the clinical setting using a 1.5-T MRI scanner, particularly for lesions <5 mm in diameter.

The title compound, hexa-kis-[μ 3 -1,2-bis-(tri-fluoro-meth-yl)ethene-1,2-di-thiol-ato]- octa-hedro -hexa-palladium(II), [Pd(C 4 F 6 S 2 )] 6 , crystallizes as its benzene solvate, [Pd(tfd)] 6 ·2.5C 6 H 6 , where tfd is the di-thiol-ene S 2 C 2 (CF 3 ) 2 . The mol-ecular structure of [Pd(tfd)] 6 is of the hexa-metallic cube type seen previously in three examples of hexa-meric homoleptic palladium monodi-thiol-ene structures. Purpose: To develop and clinically evaluate a pediatric knee magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique based on volumetric fast spin-echo (3DFSE) and compare its diagnostic performance, image quality, and imaging time to that of a conventional 2D protocol., Materials and Methods: A 3DFSE sequence was modified and combined with a compressed sensing-based reconstruction resolving multiple image contrasts, a technique termed T 2 Shuffling (T 2 Sh). With Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval, 28 consecutive children referred for 3T knee MRI prospectively underwent a standard clinical knee protocol followed by T 2 Sh. T 2 Sh performance was assessed by two readers blinded to diagnostic reports. Interpretive discrepancies were resolved by medical record chart review and consensus between the readers and an orthopedic surgeon. Image quality was evaluated by rating anatomic delineation, with 95% confidence interval. A Wilcoxon rank-sum test assessed the null hypothesis that T 2 Sh structure delineation compared to conventional 2D is unchanged. Intraclass correlation coefficients were calculated for interobserver agreement. Imaging time of the conventional protocol and T 2 Sh was compared., Results: There was 81% and 87% concordance between T 2 Sh reports and diagnostic reports, respectively, for each reader. Upon consensus review, T 2 Sh had 93% sensitivity and 100% specificity compared to clinical reports for detection of clinically relevant findings. The 95% confidence interval of diagnostic or better rating was 95-100%, with 34-80% interobserver agreement. There was no significant difference in structure delineation between T 2 Sh and 2D, except for the retinaculum (P < 0.05), where 2D was preferred. Typical imaging time for T 2 Sh and the conventional exam was 7 and 13 minutes, respectively., Conclusion: A single-sequence pediatric knee exam is feasible with T 2 Sh, providing multiplanar, reformattable 4D images., Level of Evidence: 2 J. Background: Performance on figure copy tests has been shown to predict progressive cognitive decline in Parkinson's disease (PD). Historically, the interlocking pentagons from the Mini Mental State Exam (MMSE) have been the figure copy test most commonly used during cognitive screening evaluations. However, the wire cube from the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is increasingly being used., Objective: To evaluate which of these figure copy tests is more sensitive for cognitive impairment in PD., Methods: Sixty-three PD patients from UK and USA completed the MMSE and MoCA. Logistic regression and sensitivity/specificity analyses were used to evaluate the utility of each figure copy test for detecting global cognitive impairment., Results: The wire cube was a significant indicator of cognitive impairment (OR=4.79, 95% CI=1.63-14.07, p=0.004), with a sensitivity/specificity of 0.74/0.63 in our sample. In contrast, interlocking pentagons were not a significant indicator of cognitive impairment (OR=1.88, 95% CI=0.54-6.50, p=0.32), with a sensitivity/specificity of 0.26/0.84., Conclusion: The wire cube is more sensitive to cognitive impairment in PD, most likely related to its greater complexity. The results have implications for clinicians who may have time for just one figure copying task as part of a brief screen for cognitive impairment in busy clinics and for researchers applying the PD mild cognitive impairment diagnostic criteria necessitating two tests of visuospatial function to be administered., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier B.V. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the usefulness of T1W black-blood Cube (BB Cube) and T1W BB Cube fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (BB Cube-FLAIR) sequences for contrast-enhanced brain imaging, by evaluating flow-related artefacts, detectability, and contrast ratio (CR) of intracranial lesions among these sequences and T1W-SE., Methods: Phantom studies were performed to determine the optimal parameters of BB Cube and BB Cube-FLAIR. A clinical study in 23 patients with intracranial lesions was performed to evaluate the usefulness of these two sequences for the diagnosis of intracranial lesions compared with the conventional 2D T1W-SE sequence., Results: The phantom study revealed that the optimal parameters for contrast-enhanced T1W imaging were TR/TE = 500 ms/minimum in BB Cube and TR/TE/TI = 600 ms/minimum/300 ms in BB Cube-FLAIR imaging. In the clinical study, the degree of flow-related artefacts was significantly lower in BB Cube and BB Cube-FLAIR than in T1W-SE. Regarding tumour detection, BB Cube showed the best detectability; however, there were no significant differences in CR among the sequences., Conclusions: At 1.5 T, contrast-enhanced BB Cube was a better imaging sequence for detecting brain lesions than T1W-SE or BB Cube-FLAIR., Key Points: • Cube is a single-slab 3D FSE imaging sequence. • We applied a black-blood (BB) imaging technique to T1W Cube. • At 1.5 T, contrast-enhanced T1W BB Cube was valuable for detecting brain lesions.
