Achieving high shielding effectiveness in electromagnetic shielding materials relies heavily on high conductivity, yet simultaneously enhancing the absorption loss remains a persistent challenge. Consequently, the study successfully creates efficient electromagnetic shielding composite films with a unique grape-like bunch structure of hollow nanosilver (HCAF) through layer-by-layer assembly. The utilization of poly(dopamine) (PDA) to anchor nanosilver granules (AgNPs) onto cellulose nanofibers (CNF) results in the formation of CNF@PDA@AgNPs. Subsequently, a surface protection etching method is employed to etch the AgNPs, resulting in hollow nanosilver (H-AgNPs) and the generation of CNF@PDA@H-AgNPs. A composite film featuring a grape bunch structure is fabricated by interweaving high aspect ratio CNF with CNF@PDA@H-AgNPs. A substantial quantity of H-AgNPs creates an abundant interface, while the grape bunch structure establishes an efficient conductive network. That enables the composite film to exhibit excellent impedance matching, excellent conductivity loss, abundant polarization loss, and multiple reflection loss. Therefore, the conductivity of the composite film with a thickness of 148.8 μm reaches 212660 S/m, with SE T , SE A , and SE R 89.56, 79.03, and 10.53 dB in the X band, significantly better than the 76.9, 55.55, and 21.41 dB of the solid AgNPs composite film. The composite film also exhibits remarkable thermal conductivity (The coefficients of in-plane and out-plane thermal conductivity are 4.61 and 0.17 W/(m·K), respectively), mechanical properties, and strain sensing capabilities, making it significant potential for applications in flexible electronics and other related fields.

Due to the swift advancement of the electronic industry and information technology, electromagnetic wave absorption materials are gaining significance in the field of intelligent equipment and weaponry. Nanomaterials were developed to investigate wave absorbing materials that can achieve both impedance matching and attenuation balance. Nanomaterials possess the properties of being thin, lightweight, and capable of absorbing microwave radiation across a wide range of frequencies. This work aims to present a systematic overview of the recent advancements in core-shell materials, specifically carbon, oxide, and sulfide nanomaterials, with regards to their applications in electromagnetic absorption and electromagnetic shielding. This review intends to emphasize the core principles of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and microwave absorption in different systems documented in the literature, along with diverse methods of synthesis and fabrication for creating effective wideband electromagnetic absorbers/shields. Lastly, we also endeavor to offer a comprehensive view and insight into the areas where future research will thrive. Ordering a crucial material like pure-graphene into the chiral nematic structure can potentially revolutionize the fields of photonics, chiral separation, and energy storage. However, the controlled fabrication of highly ordered graphene films with a long-range chiral nematic mesoporous structure is very challenging and as such, has not been achieved. Here, a chiral-template-directed chemical vapor deposition growth strategy is presented for the precise fabrication of mesoporous chiral nematic graphene films by using nanocrystalline cellulose as templates. It is evidenced that such graphene films possess the left-hand helical ordering, chiral nematic mesoporous structure with adjustable pore sizes (6.4-13.1 nm), tailored pitch, excellent electrical conductivity (556 S cm -1 ), high specific surface area (1508 m 2  g -1 ) and mechanical flexibility. By coating Na anode with this film, uniform Na plating is achieved with no dendrite formation, resulting from its unique chiral nematic structure and tunable physicochemical properties. This paper presents a straightforward and easily scalable method for producing buckypapers. These thin films consist of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) dispersed on a PET substrate using an airbrushing technique, followed by solvent evaporation. Notably, this process requires minimal equipment complexity. The study investigates the electrical properties of buckypapers made from both purified and unpurified SWCNTs, as well as chemical vapor deposition graphene. Specifically, we focus on their electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness in the S -band of microwaves (2-4 GHz). To evaluate this, we installed buckypaper and graphene plates within a waveguide cross section. The results show that these buckypapers exhibit high overall shielding effectiveness. It is found that buckypapers based on purified carbon nanotubes have higher shielding parameters (due higher electrical conductivity measured by TRL method) than those based on unpurified CNTs. Optical-electromagnetic compatible devices are urgently required in intelligent building monitors and cross-band protection. Meanwhile, the insufficient systematicness and semi-empirical attempts significantly limit the prosperity of cross-band materials, causing enormous challenges for deviceization and material database construction. Herein, the systematical component-deviceization-machine learning prediction-array construction strategy is attempted to solve the bottleneck issues. A luminance-triggered camouflage-monitoring-protection triune integrated modular unit (IMU) is hierarchically encapsulated to simultaneously achieve efficient anti-electromagnetic interference (EMI), light-absorbing, quick gradient-colorization response. Moreover, an illumination intensity dataset and a surrogate model based on fully connected neural network fitting (FCNN-fitting) are constructed, which accurately predicts the light-absorbing property of IMUs and can be instructional for material selection. The IMUs are specifically assembled into a 4*4 array, aiming at multi-scenario application of programmable display, camouflage pattern, surface conformality, and rapid replaceability. Technological development has led to the need for materials able to block electromagnetic waves (EMWs) emitted from various devices. EMWs could negatively affect the working performance and lifetime of multiple instruments and measuring devices. New EMW shielding materials are being developed, while among nanomaterials, graphene-based composites have shown promising features. Herein, we have produced graphene oxide (GO), silver nanowires (AgNWs) composites, by varying the mass ratios of each component. UV-Vis, infrared, Raman spectroscopies, and thermogravimetric analysis proved the establishment of the interactions between them. For the first time, the strength and the nature of the interaction between GO sheets with various levels of oxidation and AgNWs were investigated using density function theory (DFT). The interaction energy between ideal graphene and AgNWs was calculated to be -48.9 kcal/mol, while for AgNWs and GO, this energy is almost doubled at -81.9 kcal/mol. The DFT results confirmed the interfacial polarization at the heterointerface via charge transfer and accumulation at the interface, improving the efficacy of EMW shielding. Our results indicated that AgNWs create a compact complex with GO due to charge transfer between them. Charge redistributions in GO-AgNWs composites resulted in an improved ability of the composite to block EMWs compared to GO alone.

The issue of increased electromagnetic pollution has sparked widespread demands for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding technology in specialized applications such as optical windows and periscopes. More importantly, the materials maintaining a high transmittance and excellent EMI shielding stability in harsh environments still remain an urgent challenge. In this work, a multilayered PDMS/ITO/Ag/ITO (PIAI) film is constructed by magnetron sputtering and spin-coating techniques. The PIAI film with a sandwiched structure design exhibited an efficient shielding effectiveness of 35 dB in the X-band while boasting an impressive transmittance of 89% at 550 nm ascribed to refractive index matching of the PDMS layer and phase cancellation interference between ITO layers. It also represented satisfying corrosion resistance and chemical stability, with a slight shielding effectiveness decrease of 5% after immersing for 24 h in 5 wt % NaCl solution. Therefore, the as-obtained multilayered film integrates the multifunctionality of efficient EMI shielding, high light transmission, and excellent corrosion resistance, offering a promising avenue for transparent EMI shielding films applied to visible windows in a harsh environment.

Polymer-based conductive composites are lightweight, low-cost, and easily processable materials with important applications in various fields. However, achieving highly conductive and 3D printable polymer-based conductive composites remains challenging. In this study, we successfully developed a highly conductive composite suitable for direct ink writing 3D printing using unsaturated polyester resin as the polymer matrix and graphene nanosheets as conductive fillers and rheological modifiers. Due to the well-matched affinity between graphene nanosheets and unsaturated polyester, the graphene nanosheets aggregate within the unsaturated polyester, forming a 3D conductive network. Moreover, the shearing force during direct ink writing 3D printing induces the orientation of the 2D graphene nanosheets, significantly enhancing their conductivity along the printing direction. At room temperature, the unsaturated polyester resin/graphene composite shows a high conductivity of 69.9 S m -1 while maintaining excellent 3D printability. Structures printed using this material exhibit improved heat dissipation and electromagnetic shielding performance. The reported unsaturated polyester resin/graphene nanosheet composites demonstrate outstanding electrical and heat conductivity and excellent processability, making them promising candidates for applications in electromagnetic shielding, printed electronics, and other fields.

With the rapid development of electronic industry, it's pressing to develop multifunctional electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials to ensure the stable operation of electronic devices. Herein, multilayered flexible PEG@PAN/MXene (Ti 3 C 2 T x )/PVDF@SiO 2 (PMF) composite film has been constructed from the level of microstructure design via coaxial electrospinning, coating spraying, and uniaxial electrospinning strategies. Benefiting from the effective encapsulation for PEG and high conductivity of MXene coating, PEG@PAN/MXene composite film with MXene coating loading density of 0.70 mg cm -2 exhibits high thermal energy storage density of 120.77 J g -1 and great EMI shielding performance (EMI SE of 34.409 dB and SSE of 49.086 dB cm 3 g -1 ) in X-band (8-12 GHz). Therefore, this advanced composite film can not only help electronic devices prevent the influence of electromagnetic pollution in the X-band but also play an important role in electronic device thermal management. Additionally, the deposition of nano PVDF@SiO 2 fibers (289 ± 128 nm) endowed the PMF composite film with great hydrophobic properties (water contact angle of 126.5°) to ensure the stable working of hydrophilic MXene coating, thereby breaks the limitation of humid application environments. Compared to conventional fibers, electrospun porous nanofibers with hierarchical structures often involve additional active sites, interfaces, and internal spaces which boost the performances of functional materials. Here in this study, coaxial composite cellulose acetate@silk fibroin (CA@SF) fibrous membranes are constructed through an electrostatic spinning technique combining solvent-induced phase separation. Hierarchical core-shell structures on the fibers are achieved, which significantly increases the surface area and benefits the mechanical property, flux, as well as the electroless deposition of Ag nanoparticles. The total electromagnetic shielding efficiency of the sandwiched hierarchical CA@SF@Ag composite membrane with a thickness of only 100 μm reaches up to 100 dB, surpassing around 82% beyond nonhierarchical ones. To be noticed, when post-treated by ethanol, the membrane enables an enhanced tensile strength of up to 10 MPa with a thickness of only 50 μm. Our findings pave the way to the application of electrospun fiber membranes in the field of ultrathin electromagnetic shielding films.

As a novel approach to pursue high-performance multifunctional materials, the structural design of cutting-edge two-dimensional (2D) materials has ignited substantial interests. Borophene, an emerging member in the realm of 2D materials, exhibits crucial attributes, including high theoretical carrier density, electrical conductivity, magnetism, and high aspect ratio, rendering it highly promising for diverse applications. Yet, the exploration of porous structural configurations of borophene remains untapped. Addressing this gap, our study focuses on the fabrication of a multifunctional borophene hybrid foam (CMB-foam). This hybridization leverages the exceptional multifunctionality of MXene alongside borophene within a three-dimensional porous framework, facilitating reflection and absorption of electromagnetic waves, thereby demonstrating remarkable electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding capabilities. Moreover, this structural configuration exposes an enlarged surface area, thus shortening the transport pathway for electrolyte ions, leading to an excellent energy storage performance. Additionally, CMB-foam performs well in thermal management and thermal insulation. These findings underscore the potential of borophene-based materials in multifunctional applications and offer valuable insights into further performance explorations in this domain.

With the rapid development of information and communication industries, the usage of electromagnetic waves has caused the hazard of human health and misfunction of devices. The adsorption and shielding of electromagnetic waves have been achieved in various materials. The unique adjustable spatial structure makes metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) promising for electromagnetic shielding and adsorbing. As MOFs research advances, various large-scale MOF-based materials have been developed. For instance, MOFs spatial structure has been expanded from 2D to 3D to load more ligands. Progress in synthetic methods for MOFs and their derivatives is advancing, with priority on large-scale preparation and green synthesis. This review summarizes the methods for synthesizing MOFs and their derivatives, and explores the effects of MOFs spatial structure on electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and electromagnetic wave absorption capabilities. At the same time, detailed examples are used to focus on the applications of five different MOFs composites in electromagnetic shielding and electromagnetic wave absorption. The utilization of sheet structure composites as a viable conductive filler has been implemented in polymer-based electromagnetic shielding materials. However, the development of an innovative sheet structure to enhance electromagnetic shielding performance remains a significant challenge. Herein, we propose a novel design incorporating silver-modified nanosheet self-assembled hollow spheres to optimize their performance. The unique microporous structure of the hollow composite, combined with the self-assembled surface nanosheets, facilitates multiple reflections of electromagnetic waves, thereby enhancing the dissipation of electromagnetic energy. The contribution of absorbing and reflecting electromagnetic waves in hollow nanostructures could be attributed to both the inner and outer surfaces. When multiple reflection attenuation is implemented, the self-assembled stack structure of nanosheets outside the composite material significantly enhances the occurrence of multiple reflections, thereby effectively improving its shielding performance. The structure also facilitates multiple reflections of incoming electromagnetic waves at the internal and external interfaces of the material, thereby enhancing the shielding efficiency. Simultaneously, the incorporation of silver particles can enhance conductivity and further augment the shielding properties. Finally, the optimized Ag/NiSi-Ni nanocomposites can demonstrate superior initial permeability (2.1 × 10 -6 H m -1 ), saturation magnetization (13.2 emu g -1 ), and conductivity (1.2 × 10 -3 Ω•m). This work could offer insights for structural design of conductive fillers with improved electromagnetic shielding performance.

The development of electronic skin (e-skin) emulating the human skin's three essential functions (perception, protection, and thermoregulation) has great potential for human-machine interfaces and intelligent robotics. However, existing studies mainly focus on perception. This study presents a novel, eco-friendly, mechanically robust e-skin replicating human skin's three essential functions. The e-skin is composed of Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene, polypyrrole, and bacterial cellulose nanofibers, where the MXene nanoflakes form the matrix, the bacterial cellulose nanofibers act as the filler, and the polypyrrole serves as a conductive "cross-linker". This design allows customization of the electrical conductivity, microarchitecture, and mechanical properties, integrating sensing (perception), EMI shielding (protection), and thermal management (thermoregulation). The optimal e-skin can effectively sense various motions (including minuscule artery pulses), achieve an EMI shielding efficiency of 63.32 dB at 78 μm thickness, and regulate temperature up to 129 °C in 30 s at 2.4 V, demonstrating its potential for smart robotics in complex scenarios.

3D carbon-based porous sponges are recognized for significant potential in oil absorption and electromagnetic interference (EMI). However, their widespread application is hindered by a common compromise between high performance and affordability of mass production. Herein, a novel approach is introduced that involves laser-assisted micro-zone heating melt-blown spinning (LMHMS) to address this challenge by creating pitch-based submicron carbon fibers (PSCFs) sponge with 3D interconnected structures. These structures bestow the resulting sponge exceptional characteristics including low density (≈20 mg cm -3 ), high porosity (≈99%), remarkable compressibility (80% maximum strain), and superior conductivity (≈628 S m -1 ). The resultant PSCF sponges realize an oil/organic solvent sorption capacity over 56 g/g and possess remarkable regenerated ability. In addition to their effectiveness in cleaning up oil/organic solvent spills, they also demonstrated strong electromagnetic shielding capabilities, with a total shielding effectiveness (SE) exceeding 60 dB across the X-band GHz range. In virtue of extreme lightweight of ≈20 mg cm -3 , the specific SE of the PSCF sponge reaches as high as ≈1466 dB cm 3  g -1 , surpassing the performance of numerous carbon-based porous structures. The research on MEMS wireless sensing technology adapted to strong power frequency electromagnetic field environments is of great significance to our energy security, economic society, and even national security. Here, we propose a subwavelength cross-meandering resonator (0.49 λ 0 × 0.49 λ 0 ) to simultaneously achieve power frequency electromagnetic field shielding and wireless communication signal transmission. The element size of the resonator is only λ 0 /11, which is much smaller than that of previous works. In the resonator, a resonance mode with the significant near-field enhancement effect (about 180 times that at f = 1 GHz) is supported. Based on the self-made shielding box experimental setup, the measured shielding effectiveness of the resonator sample can reach more than 33 dB. Moreover, by integrating the cross-meandering resonator with the MEMS sensor, a wireless communication signal can be successfully transmitted. A dual-function cross-meandering resonator integrated with sensors may find potential applications in many military and civilian industries associated with strong power frequency electromagnetic fields.

The modulation of electrical properties in composite materials is critical for applications requiring tailored electrical functionality, such as electromagnetic shielding and absorption. This study focuses on Ti64/B 4 C composites, a material combination promising enhanced electromagnetic properties. Laser direct manufacturing (LDM) was utilized to fabricate coaxial samples of Ti64 blended with TiB and TiC in various mass ratios, with sample thicknesses ranging from 0.5 mm to 3.5 mm. The electrical characterization involved assessing the dielectric and magnetic permeability, as well as impedance and reflectance, across a frequency spectrum of 2 to 18 GHz. The result reveals that TiC, when incorporated into Ti64, exhibits strong dielectric polarization and achieves a reflectivity as low as -40 dB between 7 and 14 GHz. Conversely, TiB demonstrates effective electromagnetic absorption, with reflectivity values below -10 dB in the frequency band of 8.5 to 11.5 GHz. The study also notes that a lower B 4 C content enhances electronic polarization and increases the dielectric coefficient, while higher contents favor ionic polarization. This shift can lead to a timing mismatch in the establishment of electron and ion polarization, resulting in a decreased dielectric coefficient. In addition, adjusting the B 4 C content in Ti64/B 4 C composites effectively modulates their electrical properties, suggesting a strategic approach to designing materials for specific electromagnetic functions.

MXene emerges as a premier candidate for electromagnetic shielding owing to its unique properties as a novel two-dimensional material. Its exceptional electrical conductivity, chemical reactivity, surface tunability, and facile processing render it highly suitable for diverse electromagnetic shielding applications. The research status of MXene and MXene-based electromagnetic shielding materials is systematically discussed in this paper. First, the research status of MXene as a single-component electromagnetic shielding material is briefly introduced. Subsequently, the research status of composite structures constructed by MXene with polymers, carbon derivatives, and ferrites is introduced in detail. Furthermore, the research progress of MXene-based ternary and quaternary composite electromagnetic shielding materials is further focused. Finally, the application of MXene-based composite electromagnetic shielding materials is prospected. A deeper understanding of MXene's electromagnetic shielding properties is facilitated by this paper, providing the direction for the future development of two-dimensional materials in the design and processing of electromagnetic shielding materials.

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials play a vital role in human society, especially in light of the rapid development of electronic communication equipment. Therefore, it is urgent to develop green, high-efficiency EMI shielding materials. Wood, as a renewable raw material, possesses significant structural advantages in studying EMI materials due to its unique 3D pore structure. Herein, we report magnetoelectric lignocellulosic matrix composites derived from the delignified wood for efficient EMI shielding. The composite was fabricated by in-situ polymerization of PEDOT conductive coating and magnetic Fe 3 O 4 in delignified wood. The conductive 3D pore structure of Fe 3 O 4 /PEDOT@wood could effectively cause dielectric loss and multiple internal reflections. Combined with the magnetic loss of Fe 3 O 4 , the material exhibited excellent EMI shielding effectiveness (SE), which could be attributed to the synergistic effect of dielectric and magnetic losses. The Fe 3 O 4 /PEDOT@wood showed excellent conductivity (103 S/m), good magnetism (26.7 emu/g), the EMI SE up to 59.8 dB, and high SE A /SE T ratios of∼84.2 % to 95.7 % at 2 mm in X -band. Moreover, the material exhibited a high compressive strength and tensile strength of 100.8 MPa and 18.1 MPa, respectively. Electromagnetic (EM) metamaterials have garnered considerable attention due to their capacity to achieve negative parameters, significantly influencing the integration of natural materials with artificially structural media. The emergence of carbon aerogels (CAs) offers an opportunity to create lightweight EM metamaterials, notable for their promising EM shielding or absorption effects. This paper introduces an efficient, low-cost method for fabricating CAs without requiring stringent drying conditions. By finely tuning the ZnCl 2 /lignin ratio, the porosity is controlled in CAs. This control leads to an epsilon-negative response in the radio-frequency region, driven by the intrinsic plasmonic state of the 3D carbon network, as opposed to traditional periodic building blocks. This approach yields a tunable and weakly epsilon-negative response, reaching an order of magnitude of -10 3 under MHz frequencies. Equivalent circuit analysis highlights the inductive characteristics of CAs, correlating their significant dielectric loss at low frequencies. Additionally, EM simulations are performed to evaluate the distribution of the electric field vector in epsilon-negative CAs, showcasing their potential for effective EM shielding. The lignin-derived, lightweight CAs with their tunable epsilon-negative response hold promise for pioneering new directions in EM metamaterials and broadening their application in diverse extreme conditions., (© 2024 The Authors. Incorporating outstanding flame retardancy and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) into polymers is a pressing requirement for practical utilization. In this study, we first employed the principles of microencapsulation and electrostatic interaction-driven self-assembly to encapsulate polyethyleneimine (PEI) molecules and Ti 3 C 2 T x nanosheets on the surface of ammonium polyphosphate (APP), forming a double-layer-encapsulated structure of ammonium polyphosphate (APP@PEI@Ti 3 C 2 T x ). Subsequently, flame-retardant thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) composites were fabricated by melting the flame-retardant agent with TPU. Afterwards, by using air-assisted thermocompression technology, we combined a reduced graphene oxide (rGO) film with flame-retardant TPU composites to fabricate hierarchical TPU/APP@PEI@Ti 3 C 2 T x /rGO composites. We systematically studied the combustion behavior, flame retardancy, and smoke-suppression performance of these composite materials, as well as the flame-retardant mechanism of the expansion system. The results indicated a significant improvement in the interface interaction between APP@PEI@Ti 3 C 2 T x and the TPU matrix. Compared to pure TPU, the TPU/10APP@PEI@1TC composite exhibited reductions of 84.1%, 43.2%, 62.4%, and 85.2% in peak heat release rate, total heat release, total smoke release, and total carbon dioxide yield, respectively. The averaged EMI SE of hierarchical TPU/5APP@PEI@1TC/rGO also reached 15.53 dB in the X-band.

Designing nanocomposite hydrogels with oriented nanosheets has emerged as a promising toolkit to achieve preferential performances that go beyond their disordered counterparts. Although current fabrication strategies via electric/magnetic force fields have made remarkable achievements, they necessitate special properties of nanosheets and suffer from an inferior orientation degree of nanosheets. Herein, a facile and universal approach is discovered to elaborate MXene-based nanocomposite hydrogels with highly oriented, heterogeneous architecture by virtue of supergravity to replace conventional force fields. The key to such architecture is to leverage bidirectional, force-tunable attributes of supergravity containing coupled orthogonal shear and centrifugal force field for steering high-efficient movement, pre-orientation, and stacking of MXene nanosheets in the bottom. Such a synergetic effect allows for yielding heterogeneous nanocomposite hydrogels with a high-orientation MXene-rich layer (orientation degree, f = 0.83) and a polymer-rich layer. The authors demonstrate that MXene-based nanocomposite hydrogels leverage their high-orientation, heterogeneous architecture to deliver an extraordinary electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness of 55.2 dB at 12.4 GHz yet using a super-low MXene of 0.3 wt%, surpassing most hydrogels-based electromagnetic shielding materials. Phase change materials (PCMs) offer a promising solution to address the challenges posed by intermittency and fluctuations in solar thermal utilization. However, for organic solid-liquid PCMs, issues such as leakage, low thermal conductivity, lack of efficient solar-thermal media, and flammability have constrained their broad applications. Herein, we present an innovative class of versatile composite phase change materials (CPCMs) developed through a facile and environmentally friendly synthesis approach, leveraging the inherent anisotropy and unidirectional porosity of wood aerogel (nanowood) to support polyethylene glycol (PEG). The wood modification process involves the incorporation of phytic acid (PA) and MXene hybrid structure through an evaporation-induced assembly method, which could impart non-leaking PEG filling while concurrently facilitating thermal conduction, light absorption, and flame-retardant. Consequently, the as-prepared wood-based CPCMs showcase enhanced thermal conductivity (0.82 W m -1  K -1 , about 4.6 times than PEG) as well as high latent heat of 135.5 kJ kg -1 (91.5% encapsulation) with thermal durability and stability throughout at least 200 heating and cooling cycles, featuring dramatic solar-thermal conversion efficiency up to 98.58%. In addition, with the synergistic effect of phytic acid and MXene, the flame-retardant performance of the CPCMs has been significantly enhanced, showing a self-extinguishing behavior. Moreover, the excellent electromagnetic shielding of 44.45 dB was endowed to the CPCMs, relieving contemporary health hazards associated with electromagnetic waves. Given the escalating prevalence of electromagnetic pollution, there is an urgent need for the development of high-performance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials. Herein, wood-based electromagnetic shielding materials have gained significant popularity due to their exceptional performance as building materials. In this study, a novel wood-based composite with electromagnetic shielding properties is developed. Through the in situ growth of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) crystals on wood fibers, coupled with uniform integration of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), a multifunctional composite named ZIF-8/Poplar-CNT composite is synthesized via a one-step thermoforming process. The incorporation of CNTs endows the composites with excellent EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE). Among these elements, despite ZIF-8 crystals not possessing intrinsic electromagnetic shielding functionality, their distinctive dodecahedral structure proves adept at scattering and reflecting electromagnetic waves within the composites, further improving the electromagnetic shielding effect. Hence, the ZIF-8/Poplar-CNT composite (56.95 dB) has ≈10 dB higher EMI SE compared to that of the composites without ZIF-8 crystals. Meanwhile, ZIF-8 crystals endow the materials with excellent tensile strength (54.84 MPa, enhanced by 4 times). Moreover, the introduction of Zn 2+ provides superior antibacterial properties. With the continuous advancement of communication technology, the escalating demand for electromagnetic shielding interference (EMI) materials with multifunctional and wideband EMI performance has become urgent. Controlling the electrical and magnetic components and designing the EMI material structure have attracted extensive interest, but remain a huge challenge. Herein, we reported the alternating electromagnetic structure composite films composed of hollow metal-organic frameworks/layered MXene/nanocellulose (HMN) by alternating vacuum-assisted filtration process. The HMN composite films exhibit excellent EMI shielding effectiveness performance in the GHz frequency (66.8 dB at Ka-band) and THz frequency (114.6 dB at 0.1-4.0 THz). Besides, the HMN composite films also exhibit a high reflection loss of 39.7 dB at 0.7 THz with an effective absorption bandwidth up to 2.1 THz. Moreover, HMN composite films show remarkable photothermal conversion performance, which can reach 104.6 °C under 2.0 Sun and 235.4 °C under 0.8 W cm -2 , respectively. The unique micro- and macro-structural design structures will absorb more incident electromagnetic waves via interfacial polarization/multiple scattering and produce more heat energy via the local surface plasmon resonance effect. A dodecahedral superstructure consisting of a single layer of Janus spheres containing ZIF-67 nanodots is prepared by in situ polymerization, with ZIF-67 and bio-based phytic acid (PA) as templates and dopants. It is used to improve the flame retardant, electromagnetic (EMI) shielding, and thermal conductivity properties of polyurea (PUA). By adding 5 wt% polyaniline@cobalt phytate-2.0 (PANI@Co-PA-2.0), the peak of heat release rate and the peak of smoke production rate are reduced by 54.9 and 59.9%, respectively. The peak of CO and CO 2 production also decreased by 46.2 and 53.1%, respectively. A decrease in the absorption intensity of aliphatic and aromatic volatiles is also observed. The fire safety of PUA is greatly improved. In addition, PUA/PANI@Co-PA-2.0 exhibits an EMI shielding capability of 22.4 dB with the help of reduced graphene oxide, which confirms the possibility of PUA material application in the field of electromagnetic shielding. The 5 wt% filler increases the tensile strength of the PUA matrix to 6.3 MPa, and the composite material obtains good thermal conductivity. Designing smart textiles for personal thermal management (PTM) is an effective strategy for thermoregulation and energy saving. However, the manufacture of versatile high-performance thermal management textiles for complex real-world environments remains a challenge due to the limitations of functional integration, material properties, and preparation procedures. In this study, an aramid fabric based on in situ anchored copper sulfide nanostructure is developed. The textile with excellent solar and Joule heating properties can effectively keep the body warm even at low energy inputs. Meanwhile, the reduced infrared emissivity of the textile decreases the thermal radiation losses and helps to maintain a constant body temperature. Impressively, the textile integrates superb electromagnetic shielding, near-complete UV protection properties, and ideal resistance to fire and bacteria. As a light-weight solution for electromagnetic shielding, this paper aims to investigate the development of electrically conductive composites that shield from electromagnetic radiation while providing sustainability by using recycled fibers in the structure of nonwoven reinforcement materials. The main novelty of this research is the conversion of waste fabrics into functional composites via a fast and inexpensive method. For this purpose, waste fabrics were recycled into fibers, and the recycled fibers were processed into needle-punched nonwovens to be used as reinforcement materials for electromagnetic shielding composites. Electrically conductive composite structures were obtained by adding copper (II) sulfate and graphite conductive particles with different ratios to polyester resin. The hand lay-up method was used for the production of composites. Electromagnetic shielding, electrical resistivity, and some mechanical properties of the composites were investigated. The results were analyzed statistically using IBM SPSS software version 18. The results have shown that up to 31.43 dB of electromagnetic shielding effectiveness was obtained in the 1-6 GHz frequency range. This result corresponds to a very good grade for general use and a moderate grade for professional use, according to FTTS-FA-003, exceeding the acceptable range for industrial and commercial applications of 20 dB. The composites developed in this research are good candidates to be used in various general and professional applications, such as plastic parts in household applications, electronic industry, building and construction industries, and other applications where light weight shielding materials are needed.

Electromagnetic shielding materials are special materials that can effectively absorb and shield electromagnetic waves and protect electronic devices and electronic circuits from interference and damage by electromagnetic radiation. This paper presents the research progress of intrinsically conductive polymer materials and conductive polymer-based composites for electromagnetic shielding as well as an introduction to lightweight polymer composites with multicomponent systems. These materials have excellent electromagnetic interference shielding properties and have the advantages of electromagnetic wave absorption and higher electromagnetic shielding effectiveness compared with conventional electromagnetic shielding materials, but these materials still have their own shortcomings. Due to the rapid growth of electronic equipment technology, efficient electromagnetic shielding materials are needed for equipment and human protection. Among them, foam shielding materials with absorption as the primary mechanism have higher application value than highly reflective materials. Highly absorbing shielding materials can reduce the secondary pollution caused by electromagnetic wave reflection. In this study, we added Fe 3 O 4 @Polyvinyl alcohol (Fe 3 O 4 @PVA) and graphene oxide@silver (GO@Ag) into the polyurethane (PU) matrix and constructed Fe 3 O 4 @PVA and GO@Ag/PU composite foam by foaming. Fe 3 O 4 @PVA and GO@Ag form an excellent network structure in the PU foam skeleton, significantly improving its electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) and mechanical properties. The shielding effectiveness reached 30.9 dB with a specific EMI SE (SSE) of 274.9 dB × cm 3  × g -1 at a Fe 3 O 4 @PVA filling of 7 wt%, where the electromagnetic wave absorption accounted for more than 80 % of the total EMI SE, proving absorption as the primary shielding mechanism. The results show that Fe 3 O 4 , as a ferromagnet, has both the dielectric loss of ferroelectric materials and the hysteresis loss of ferromagnetic materials in electromagnetic shielding, effectively improving the wave absorption performance of composite shielding materials. In this work, we find that La-doped BaSnO 3 (BLSO) is shown to be a promising electromagnetic shielding transparent conductor. While films grown on industrially practical optoelectronic MgAl 2 O 4 substrates have higher sheet resistance by three orders of magnitude than in previous reports, we show how to recover the sheet resistance close to the single-crystal level by use of an MgO template layer which enables high quality (001)-oriented BLSO epitaxial film growth on (001) MgAl 2 O 4 . There is a positive correlation between crystallinity and conductivity; high crystallinity minimizes scattering of free electrons. By applying this design principle to 5-20% doped films, we find that highly crystalline 5% La-doped BLSO films exhibit low sheet resistance of ~ 8.7 Ω ▯ -1 , high visible transmittance of ~ 80%, and high X-band electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of ~ 25.9 dB, thus outperforming transparent conducting oxides films of Sn-doped In 2 O 3 and SrMoO 3 ., (© 2023. Wireless power transfer (WPT) is a technology that enables energy transmission without physical contact, utilizing magnetic and electric fields as soft media. While WPT has numerous applications, the increasing power transfer distance often results in a decrease in transmission efficiency, as well as the urgent need for addressing safety concerns. Metamaterials offer a promising way for improving efficiency and reducing the flux density in WPT systems. This paper provides an overview of the current status and technical challenges of metamaterial-based WPT systems. The basic principles of magnetic coupling resonant wireless power transfer (MCR-WPT) are presented, followed by a detailed description of the metamaterial design theory and its application in WPT. The paper then reviews the metamaterial-based wireless energy transmission system from three perspectives: transmission efficiency, misalignment tolerance, and electromagnetic shielding. Finally, the paper summarizes the development trends and technical challenges of metamaterial-based WPT systems.

Highly conductive hydrogels with biotissue-like mechanical properties are of great interest in the emerging field of hydrogel bioelectronics due to their good biocompatibility, deformability, and stability. Fully polymeric hydrogels may exhibit comparable Young's modulus to biotissues. However, most of these filler-free hydrogels have a low electrical conductivity of <10 S cm -1 , which limits their wide applications of them in digital circuits or bioelectronic devices. In this work, a series of metal-halides-doped poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) hydrogels with an ultrahigh electrical conductivity up to 547 S cm -1 is reported, which is 1.5 times to 10 4 times higher than previously reported filler-free polymeric hydrogels. Theoretical calculation demonstrated that the ion exchange between PEDOT:PSS and the metal halides played an important role to promote phase separation in the hydrogels, which thus leads to ultrahigh electrical conductivity. The high electrical conductivity resulted in multifunctional hydrogels with high performance in thermoelectrics, electromagnetic shielding, Joule heating, and sensing. The rapid advancement of electronic communication technology has greatly aided human productivity and quality of life, but it has also resulted in significant electromagnetic pollution issues. Traditional metals and alloys are often used for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding due to their excellent electrical conductivity. However, they have drawbacks such as being heavy, expensive, and having low corrosion resistance, which limits their application in electromagnetic shielding. Therefore, it is crucial to develop novel EMI shielding materials. Polymers, being highly flexible, corrosion-resistant, and possessing high specific strength, are frequently employed in electromagnetic shielding materials. In this review, we firstly introduce the basic theory of electromagnetic shielding. Then, we outline the processing methods and recent developments of polymer-based electromagnetic shielding composites, including uniform-, foam-, layered-, and segregated structures. Lastly, we present the challenges and prospects for the field, aiming to provide direction and inspiration for the study of polymer-based electromagnetic shielding composite materials.

With the continuous improvement of living standards and advancements in science and technology, composite materials with multiple functionalities are gaining high practical value in modern society. In this paper, we present a multifunctional conductive paper-based composite with electromagnetic (EMI) shielding, sensing, Joule heating, and antimicrobial properties. The composite is prepared by growing metallic silver nanoparticles inside the cellulose paper (CP) modified with polydopamine (PDA). The resulting CP@PDA@Ag (CPPA) composite has high conductivity and EMI shielding properties. Furthermore, CPPA composites demonstrate exceptional sensing, Joule heating, and antimicrobial properties. In addition, Vitrimer, a polymer with excellent cross-linked network structure, is introduced into CPPA composites to obtain CPPA-V intelligent electromagnetic shielding materials with shape memory function. These excellent properties show that the prepared multifunctional intelligent composite has exceptional EMI shielding, sensing, Joule heating, and antibacterial and shape memory properties. In short, this multifunctional intelligent composite material has great application prospects in flexible wearable electronics.

Electromagnetic (EM) pollution has become a serious problem in modern society as it affects human lives. The fabrication of strong and highly flexible materials for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications is extremely urgent. Herein, a MXene Ti 3 C 2 T x /Fe 3 O 4 & bacterial cellulose (BC)/Fe 3 O 4 &Methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) flexible hydrophobic electromagnetic shielding film (SBTF X-Y , X and Y were the number of layers of BC/Fe 3 O 4 and the layers of Ti 3 C 2 T x /Fe 3 O 4 ), was fabricated. In the prepared film, MXene Ti 3 C 2 T x absorbs a large amount of radio waves through polarization relaxation and conduction loss. Because of its extremely low reflectance of electromagnetic waves, BC@Fe 3 O 4 , as the outermost layer of the material, allows more electromagnetic waves to incident inside the material. The maximum electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding efficiency (SE) of 68 dB was achieved for the composite film at 45 μm thickness. What's more, the SBTF X-Y films show excellent mechanical properties, hydrophobicity and flexibility. Wearable devices with efficient thermal management and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding are highly desirable for improving human comfort and safety. Herein, a multifunctional wearable carbon fibers (CF) @ polyaniline (PANI) / silver nanowires (Ag NWs) composites with a "branch-trunk" interlocked micro/nanostructure were achieved through "three-in-one" multi-scale design. The reasonable assembly of the three kinds of one-dimensional (1D) materials can fully exert their excellent properties i.e., the superior flexibility of CF, the robustness of PANI, and the splendid conductivity of AgNWs. Consequently, the constructed flexible composite demonstrates enhanced mechanical properties with a tensile stress of 1.2 MPa, which was almost 6 times that of the original material. This is mainly attributed to the fact that the PNAI (branch) was firmly attached to the CF (trunk) through polydopamine (PDA), forming a robust interlocked structure. Meanwhile, the composite possesses excellent thermal insulation and heat preservation capacity owing to the synergistically low thermal conductivity and emissivity. More importantly, the conductive path of the composite established by the three 1D materials greatly improved its EMI shielding property and Joule heating performance at low applied voltage. This work paves the way for rational utilization of the intrinsic properties of 1D materials, as well as provides a promising strategy for designing wearable electromagnetic protection and thermal energy management devices., (© 2023. Dopamine was used to modify polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in order to obtain functional polydopamine (PDA) surface-modified PTFE microporous film (PTFE@PDA). Ag was deposited on the surface of PTFE@PDA using electroless plating in order to obtain Ag-wrapped PTFE@PDA film (PTFE@Ag). A liquid-phase chemical reduction method was employed to prepare nickel nanochains. A Ni@PVDF cast film was obtained by mechanically blended nickel nanochains and polyimide (PVDF). The above two films were hot pressed to give a flexible, ultra-thin, and highly effective electromagnetic shielding composite film with a "3+2" layered structure. IR, XRD, and TEM results showed the PTFE@PDA film surface was coated by a tight plating layer of Ag particles with a particle size of 100~200 nm. PTFE@Ag+Ni@PVDF composite film exhibited excellent electromagnetic shielding effectiveness, with the conductivity of 7507.5 S/cm and the shielding effectiveness of 69.03 dB in the X-band range. After a 2000-cycle bending, this value still remained at 51.90 dB. Furthermore, the composite film presented excellent tensile strength of 62.1 MPa. It has great potential for applications in flexible and wearable intelligent devices.

Electromagnetic properties of polymer composites strongly depend on the loading amount and the completeness of the filler's dispersive structure. Improving the compatibility of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with isobutylene butyl rubber (IIR) is a good solution to mitigate aggregation. The change in configuration of poly-oxyethylene octyl phenol ether (OP-10) was induced using water as the exposed hydrophilic groups linking with water molecules. The SWCNT and IIR/SWCNT composites were then prepared via wetly-melt mixing at a relatively high temperature to remove water, and they were then mixed with other agents after vacuum drying and cured. The SWCNTs were dispersed uniformly to form a good network for a lower percolation threshold of the wave-absorbing property to 2 phr from 8 phr. With 8 phr SWCNTs, the tensile strength of the material improved significantly from 7.1 MPa to 15.1 MPa, and the total electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of the material was enhanced to 23.8 dB, a 3-fold increase compared to the melt-mixed material. It was demonstrated that water-induced modification achieved good dispersion of SWCNTs for electromagnetic shielding enhancement while maintaining a wide damping temperature range from -55 °C to 40 °C with a damping factor over 0.2.

Repetitive TMS has been used as an alternative treatment for various neurological disorders. However, most TMS mechanism studies in rodents have been based on the whole brain stimulation, the lack of rodent-specific focal TMS coils restricts the proper translation of human TMS protocols to animal models. In this study, we designed a new shielding device, which was made of high magnetic permeability material, to enhance the spatial focus of animal-use TMS coils. With the finite element method, we analyzed the electromagnetic field of the coil with and without the shielding device. Furthermore, to assess the shielding effect in rodents, we compared the c-fos expression, the ALFF and ReHo values in different groups following a 15 min 5 Hz rTMS paradigm. We found that a smaller focality with an identical core stimulation intensity was achieved in the shielding device. The 1 T magnetic field was reduced from 19.1 mm to 13 mm in diameter, and 7.5 to 5.6 mm in depth. However, the core magnetic field over 1.5 T was almost the same. Meanwhile, the area of electric field was reduced from 4.68 cm 2 to 4.19 cm 2 , and 3.8 mm to 2.6 mm in depth. Similar to this biomimetic data, the c-fos expression, the ALFF and ReHo values showed more limited cortex activation with the use of the shielding device. However, compared to the rTMS group without the shielding application, more subcortical regions, like the striatum (CPu), the hippocampus, the thalamus, and the hypothalamus were also activated in the shielding group. This indicated that more deep stimulation may be achieved by the shielding device. Generally, compared with the commercial rodents' TMS coil (15 mm in diameter), TMS coils with the shielding device achieved a better focality (~6 mm in diameter) by reducing at least 30% of the magnetic and electric field. In this study, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were grown under the same conditions as those of carbon fibers and glass fibers, and a comparative analysis was performed to confirm the potential of glass fibers with grown CNTs as electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials. The CNTs were grown directly on the two fiber surfaces by a chemical vapor deposition process, with the aid of Ni particles loaded on them via a Ni-P plating process followed by heat treatment. The morphology and structural characteristics of the carbon and glass fibers with grown CNTs were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS), and the EMI shielding efficiency (EMI SE) of the directly grown CNT/carbon and glass fiber-reinforced epoxy matrix composites was determined using a vector-network analyzer. As the plating time increased, a plating layer serving as a catalyst formed on the fiber surface, confirming the growth of numerous nanowire-shaped CNTs. The average EMI SE T values of the carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and glass fiber-reinforced plastic (GFRP) with grown CNTs maximized at approximately 81 and 40 dB, respectively. Carbon fibers with grown CNTs exhibited a significantly higher EMI SE T value than the glass fiber-based sample, but the latter showed a higher EMI SE T increase rate. This indicates that low-cost, high-quality EMI-shielding materials can be developed through the growth of CNTs on the surface of glass fibers.

Traditional cushioning package materials, such as Expended Polystyrene (EPS) and Expanded Polyethylene (EPE), were made with petroleum-based plastics, which are harmful to the environment. It is crucial to develop renewable bio-based cushioning materials that can replace the aforementioned foams due to the rising energy demands of human society and the depletion of fossil fuels. Herein, we report an effective strategy for creating anisotropic elastic wood with special spring-like lamellar structures. Selective removal of lignin and hemicellulose by simple chemical treatment and thermal treatment of the samples after freeze-drying results in an elastic material with good mechanical properties. The resulting elastic wood has a reversible compression rate of 60% and a high elastic recovery (99% height retention after 100 cycles at 60% strain). Drop tests revealed that the elastic wood has excellent cushioning properties. In addition, the chemical and thermal treatments also enlarge the pores in the material, which is favorable for subsequent functionalization. By loading the elastic wood with a muti-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT), electromagnetic shielding properties are achieved, while the mechanical properties of elastic wood remain unchanged. Electromagnetic shielding materials can effectively suppress various electromagnetic waves propagating through space and the resulting electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic radiation, improve the electromagnetic compatibility of electronic systems and electronic equipment, and ensure the safety of information.

Biomass-based multifunctional electromagnetic shielding materials have attracted extensive interest in academia and industry due to the sustainability of biomass and the environmental adaptability of multifunctional materials. After removing lignin and hemicellulose wood become a porous substrate with aligned cellulose, which is a good platform for building cellulose-based materials. In this work, a cellulose composite with sandwich-like structure was constructed by in-situ polymerization of aniline on delignified wood and coating a PDMS/CNT layer. Benefiting from the natural porous hierarchical structure and the constructed multilayer continuous conductive network, the PDMS/CNT/PANI WA exhibits excellent electrical conductivity (18.6 S/m) and electromagnetic shielding performance (shielding efficiency value of 26 dB at the X band (8.2-12.4 GHz)). The synergistic effect of PANI and CNT endowed the material with excellent flame retardancy (HRR, THR and HRC decreased by 84 %, 53.4 % and 83.3 %) and significant antibacterial activity. Moreover, PDMS imparts a water contact angle of 105° to the material, which acts as a protective layer, further improves the durability of the material. Bulk polylactic acid (PLA)/multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites were prepared and investigated in wide frequency ranges (20 Hz-1 MHz and 24-40 GHz). It was determined that the percolation threshold in bulk PLA/MWCNT composites is close to 0.2 vol.% MWCNT. However, the best microwave dielectric properties and absorption were observed in composites with 3.0-5.0 vol.% MWCNT. Therefore, for future investigations, we selected layered (laminate) polymeric structures with gradual changes in MWCNT concentration from 0.2 to 8.0 vol.% MWCNT. Two approaches to laminate structure designs were examined and compared: a five-layer composite and a nine-layer composite that included four pure PLA middle layers. The addition of MWCNT enhanced the elastic modulus by up to 1.4-fold and tensile strength by up to 1.2-fold, with the best performance achieved at 5.0 vol.% loading. High microwave shielding was observed for these layered PLA/MWCNT structures with a gradient change in MWCNT concentration (up to 26 dB in both transmission and absorption coefficients) in the broad frequency range (from 24 to 40 GHz). Obtained structures are highly anisotropic, and the absorption coefficient is 2-5 dB higher in the direction of MWCNT concentration increase; however, the transmission coefficient is the same in both directions. The properties of microwave absorption are mainly unaffected by the additional polymeric layers. The absorption of the layered structure is greater than the absorption of single-layer composites with an optimal MWCNT concentration of the same thickness. The proposed laminate structure design is promising in the field of efficient electromagnetic shielding.

Biologically inspired superstructural materials exhibit wide application prospects in many fields, in terms of mitigating increasingly serious electromagnetic (EM) pollution in the civil field. Here, we successfully obtain bamboo slices with uniform pore size distribution through the advanced bamboo transverse splitting technology developed by our group previously and prepare large-scale honeycomb-like carbon-based tubular array (CTA) structures with a controllable pore size, graphitization degree, and selectable conductivity property. Based on the simulation and experimental results, the EM shielding performance of CTAs is proven to be sensitive to the microchannel aperture size and the EM energy incident angle, which is attributed to the difference in the propagation rate of induced electrons in different directions. Among the candidates, CTA-middle-1500 exhibits the best shielding performance against incident EM energy with average SE/ρ values of 123.7 and 144.5 dB cm 3 g -1 for perpendicular and parallel directions, respectively, showing its application potential as a lightweight and efficient EM shielding material. The predicted optimal incident angle for CTA-middle-1500 against EM energy radiation is 15°, with the largest RCS reduction value of 26.1 dB m 2 . The excellent EM shielding performance is attributed to the good reflection capacity involved with the high conductivities of the CTAs.

The progress of the automated industry has introduced many benefits in our daily life, but it also produces undesired electromagnetic interference (EMI) that distresses the end-users and functionality of electronic devices. This article develops new composites based on a polyetherimide (PEI) matrix and cobalt ferrite (CoFe 2 O 4 ) nanofiller (10-50 wt%) by mixing inorganic phase in the poly(amic acid) solution, followed by film casting and controlled heating, to acquire the corresponding imide structure. The composites were designed to contain both electric and magnetic dipole sources by including highly polarizable groups (phenyls, ethers, -CN) in the PEI structure and by loading this matrix with magnetic nanoparticles, respectively. The films exhibited high thermal stability, having the temperature at which decomposition begins in the interval of 450-487 °C. Magnetic analyses indicated a saturation magnetization, coercitive force, and magnetic remanence of 27.9 emu g -1 , 705 Oe, and 9.57 emu g -1 , respectively, for the PEI/CoFe 2 O 4 50 wt%. Electrical measurements evidenced an increase in the conductivity from 4.42 10 -9 S/cm for the neat PEI to 1.70 10 -8 S/cm for PEI/CoFe 2 O 4 50 wt% at 1 MHz. The subglass γ - and β -relaxations, primary relaxation, and conductivity relaxation were also examined depending on the nanofiller content. These novel composites are investigated from the point of view of their EMI shielding properties, showing that they are capable of attenuating the electric and magnetic parts of electromagnetic waves.

Lightweight polymer-based nanostructured aerogels are crucial for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding to protect electronic devices and humans from electromagnetic radiation. The construction of three-dimensional (3D) conductive networks is crucial to realize the excellent electromagnetic shielding performance of polymer-based aerogels. However, it is difficult to realize the interconnection of different conductive fillers in the polymer matrix, which limits the further improvement of their performance. Herein, 3D ordered hierarchical porous Fe 3 O 4 -decorated carbon nanotube (Fe 3 O 4 @CNT)/MXene/cross-linked aramid nanofiber (c-ANF)/polyimide (PI) aerogels were prepared via a unidirectional freezing strategy. Benefiting from the magnetic loss effect of Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles, the conductive and dielectric loss effects of CNTs, and the multiple reflections induced by the 3D ordered hierarchical porous structure, the Fe 3 O 4 @CNTs/MXene/c-ANFs/PI (FMCP) aerogels with the same contents of 8 wt % of Fe 3 O 4 @CNTs and MXene exhibit a high absolute EMI shielding effectiveness (SE) of up to 67.42 dB and a microwave reflection (SE R ) of 0.60 dB. More importantly, the phase transition of a small amount of MXene to TiO 2 optimizes the impedance matching and transmission and then improves the microwave absorption. The FMCP aerogel has an outstanding normalized surface specific SE (SSE/t) which is up to 62,654 dB cm 2 ·g -1 . Meantime, the FMCP aerogels also show super-elasticity and could maintain 91.72% of the maximum stress after 1000 cycles of compression release under a fixed deformation of 60%.

In the past, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials have achieved great breakthroughs, however, they still suffer from high reflectivity and poor environmental stability, resulting in detrimental secondary pollution and weak adaptability. Herein, an organohydrogel-based EMI shielding material was prepared through cellulose nanofibril-based Pickering emulsion, composed of an MXene network for electron conduction, encapsulated paraffin wax microspheres with MXene-Fe 3 O 4 shells for multiple scattering of the incident wave, and MXene-CNF-Fe 3 O 4 -polyacrylamide hybrid interfaces for dielectric polarization. The EMI shielding performance of our organohydrogel shows an absorption-dominated feature. It can effectively shield 99.625 % electromagnetic wave, satisfying the requirement of commercial EMI shielding materials. Moreover, the organohydrogel possesses excellent flame retardancy properties and long-time environment properties to improve safety and reliability; and it also demonstrates sensitive deformation responses as an on-skin sensor. We present studies on the microwave properties, electrical resistivity, and low-frequency (10 Hz-20 kHz) noise characteristics in the temperature range of 78 K to 380 K of composite materials made from bisphenol A-based epoxy resin and carbon fiber felts. Two types of carbon fibers were used, derived from polyacrylonitrile or regenerated cellulose. We show that these structures are suitable for electromagnetic shielding applications, especially in the direction parallel to the carbon fibers. The low-frequency voltage fluctuations observed in these materials are of the 1/ f α , and the noise intensity is proportional to the square of the voltage. The characteristics of the investigated materials show an instability in the temperature range from 307 K to 332 K. This effect is followed by an increase in resistivity and noise intensity, but it does not change the character of the noise, and this instability vanishes after a few repeated heating and cooling cycles.

The continuous deterioration of the environment due to extensive industrialization and urbanization has raised the requirement to devise high-performance environmental remediation technologies. Membrane technologies, primarily based on conventional polymers, are the most commercialized air, water, solid, and radiation-based environmental remediation strategies. Low stability at high temperatures, swelling in organic contaminants, and poor selectivity are the fundamental issues associated with polymeric membranes restricting their scalable viability. Polymer-metal-carbides and nitrides (MXenes) hybrid membranes possess remarkable physicochemical attributes, including strong mechanical endurance, high mechanical flexibility, superior adsorptive behavior, and selective permeability, due to multi-interactions between polymers and MXene's surface functionalities. This review articulates the state-of-the-art MXene-polymer hybrid membranes, emphasizing its fabrication routes, enhanced physicochemical properties, and improved adsorptive behavior. It comprehensively summarizes the utilization of MXene-polymer hybrid membranes for environmental remediation applications, including water purification, desalination, ion-separation, gas separation and detection, containment adsorption, and electromagnetic and nuclear radiation shielding. Furthermore, the review highlights the associated bottlenecks of MXene-Polymer hybrid-membranes and its possible alternate solutions to meet industrial requirements. Discussed are opportunities and prospects related to MXene-polymer membrane to devise intelligent and next-generation environmental remediation strategies with the integration of modern age technologies of internet-of-things, artificial intelligence, machine-learning, 5G-communication and cloud-computing are elucidated., (© 2022 The Authors.
