We present an eccentric precessing gas disk model designed to study the variable circumstellar absorption features detected for WD 1145+017, a metal polluted white dwarf with an actively disintegrating asteroid around it. This model, inspired by one recently proposed by Cauley et al., calculates explicitly the gas opacity for any predetermined physical conditions in the disk, predicting the strength and shape of all absorption features, from the UV to the optical, at any given phase of the precession cycle. The successes and failures of this simple model provide valuable insight on the physical characteristics of the gas surrounding the star, notably its composition, temperature and density. This eccentric disk model also highlights the need for supplementary components, most likely circular rings, in order to explain the presence of zero velocity absorption as well as highly ionized Si IV lines. We find that a precession period of $4.6\pm0.3$ yrs can successfully reproduce the shape of the velocity profile observed at most epochs from April 2015 to January 2018, although minor discrepancies at certain times indicate that the assumed geometric configuration may not be optimal yet. We report 4 bloodstream infections associated with CC9 agr type II Staphylococcus aureus in individuals without animal exposure. We demonstrate, by microarray analysis, the presence of egc cluster, fnbA, cap operon, lukS, set2, set12, splE, splD, sak, epiD, and can, genomic features associated with a high virulence potential in humans

We present the "Montreal White Dwarf Database" (MWDD), an accessible database with sortable/filterable table and interactive plots that will, when fully completed, allow the community to explore the physical properties of all white dwarfs ever analyzed by the Montreal group, as well as display data and analyses from the literature. The recently described phenol-soluble modulin PSM-mec was detected in Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus fleuretti, Staphylococcus hominis, Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Staphylococcus simulans and Staphylococcus vitulinus from different hosts (humans, goats, dogs, cats, pigs, cattle and turkeys). It was identified in isolates harbouring SCC. mec types II, IIA, IIB, IID, III, VIII and in some irregular or truncated elements.

As part of an ongoing program to develop a computational methodology to obtain high-fidelity rocket engine flow solutions, computations were performed on a single-element, gas/gas, H2/02 combustion engine. The present work examines the influence of modeling experimental features often neglected in a simulation, specifically a nitrogen curtain purge used to cool optical access. It is shown that the influence is significant and better agreement with the data can be obtained by including the nitrogen purge. Additional solutions are presented to investigate the impact of using various turbulence models on this class of problems. A linear, realizable k-epsilon model best represented the experimental data, however, it should be recognized that RANS-type turbulence models are best suited to steady, isotropic flows, which the present flowfield is not., Prepared in collaboration with Metacomp Technologies, Inc., Westlake Village, CA.

Using conventional particle tracking techniques to predict the dynamics of spray flows can be prohibitively expensive, requiring large computation times and significant data storage. Moreover, because of the discontinuous nature of the spray drops, data from a simulation of the flow does not produce smooth statistics unless the results from many simulations have been averaged. Recently, a new model was developed that computes spray statistics directly, without simulating the flow. In this paper, the model is extended to include the effects of nonlinear momentum exchange between the phases. The approach was tested on a quasi-one-dimensional flow geometry. This paper describes a method to obtain a complete description of a spray flow by computing the evolution of its probability density function simultaneously with the gas flow in which it is embedded. Transport equations describing the evolution of certain moments of the probability density function are closed using a Maximum Entropy Formalism. Work is currently underway to test whether this method will yield significant advantages over conventional approaches to predicting spray flows.
