The EU’s common commercial policy is used as an instrument to realize its values in EU trading partners, reflected in the inclusion of sustainable trade and development chapters in EU preferential trade agreements (PTAs). This chapter asks if including non-trade provisions (NTPs) in EU PTAs has a systematic positive effect on non-trade outcomes in partner countries. It analyzes the relationship between bilateral trade flows, the coverage of NTPs in EU PTAs and the performance of EU partner countries on several non-trade outcome variables using synthetic control methods. It finds no robust evidence of a causal effect of including NTPs in EU PTAs on indicators of non-trade outcomes.

As part of our ongoing effort to investigate transit timing variations (TTVs) of known exoplanets, we monitored transits of the four exoplanets HAT-P-18b, HAT-P-19b, HAT-P-27b/WASP-40b and WASP-21b. All of them are suspected to show TTVs due to the known properties of their host systems based on the respective discovery papers. During the past three years 46 transit observations were carried out, mostly using telescopes of the Young Exoplanet Transit Initiative. The analyses are used to refine the systems' orbital parameters. In all cases we found no hints for significant TTVs, or changes in the system parameters inclination, fractional stellar radius and planet-to-star radius ratio. However, comparing our results with those available in the literature shows that we can confirm the already published values.

Hydrodynamische Studien in Rieselbettreaktoren unter erhöhten Drücken und Temperaturen beschäftigen sich hauptsächlich mit koaleszierenden, also nicht-schäumenden, Systemen. Obwohl in zahlreichen industriellen Prozessen schäumende Flüssigkeiten angewandt werden, ist keine aussagekräftige Datenbasis vorhanden. Für die verlässliche Auslegung und den sicheren Betrieb von Reaktoren wurden die Effekte von Temperatur und Druck auf die hydrodynamischen Kenngrößen für Newtonsche und nicht-Newtonsche schaumbildende Systeme untersucht. Außerdem wurde eine neue operative Methode entwickelt, bei der der Rieselbettreaktor alternierend zyklisch betrieben wird und die ohne die Dosierung von chemischen Zusätzen effektiv zur Begrenzung der Schaumbildung eingesetzt werden kann.

The leaching behaviour of a gold-silver sulphide ore was investigated in terms of a relationship between gold and silver extractions and cyanide consumption. Extractions of 95% Au and 88.0% Ag were obtained under the determined conditions of 24 h leaching duration, -74 micron particle size, 40% solids ratio, 4 g/dm3 NaCN concentration, and 450 rpm stirring speed with NaCN consumption of 3.35 g/dm3. Since the NaCN consumption was higher than in industrial applications, Pb(NO3)2 and H2O2 additions and aeration using an air pump were tested during leaching in order to decrease the consumption. While Pb(NO3)2 addition with aeration caused a decrease in the metal extractions, the individual or combined additions of H2O2 and aeration could not provide a reduction in the cyanide consumption. Therefore, the effect of the pre-aeration followed by cyanidation was tested. Eventually, applying 4 h of pre-aeration before a shorter leaching duration of 12 h provided 92.0% Au and 90.5% Ag extractions with a reduced NaCN consumption of 2.44 g/dm3.
