As one of the longest running franchises in cinema history, and with its well-established use of product placements, the James Bond film series provides an ideal framework within which to measure and catalogue the number and types of products used within a particular timeframe. This case study will draw upon extensive content analysis of the James Bond film series in order to chart the evolution of product placement across the franchise's 50 year history.

Letters of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) preparation in the Army is neither centralized nor standardized. Only a few segments of the overall process utilize modern computer technology. This report discusses the positive and negative impacts of centrally preparing Foreign Military Sales LOA. Options are presented that incorporate varying degrees of centralization and/or automation. The author recommends changes to enhance the Army LOA preparation procedures and identifies potential problem areas that must be considered. To insure against uneconomic repair, the Army establishes a Maintenance Expenditure Limit (MEL) for reparable items. Repair or overhaul at a cost exceeding the MEL cannot be performed unless a waiver is granted. A recent DOD Inspector General audit recommended the Army raise its MEL for depot reparables to 100% of replacement price and that these estimated replacement prices be updated annually. This report discusses these and other MEL related issues. A consolidated massive quantity of secondary items may become a candidate for storage relocation for a variety of reasons, including mission changes, redistribution of assets, or transfer of logistics responsibility. Department of Defense Instruction 4140.49 was issued to insure that economic ramifications are explicitly considered in such a relocation decision. It prescribes an admittedly 'conceptual' economic breakpoint formula to compare the costs of bulk relocation versus attrition. This study investigates the breakpoint formula published in the DODI to insure its effective and efficient implementation within the Army. It was concluded that this algebraic formula cannot adequately represent the unique characteristics of each mass relocation circumstance. A comprehensive economic analysis approach is recommended that compiles with the basic intent of the DODI. This economic analysis must be centrally directed and evaluated by HQ DARCOM. The results can then be incorporated into the multi-attribute decision process with such competing factors as readiness, reaction time, facilities, and vulnerability. (Author)
