During the countrywide lockdown due to the pandemic, students attended online classes and it appeared that physical classes may not be necessary or lose their relevance in future as students could easily get access to online learning materials. Students sitting in the comfort of their homes could access the best learning materials available anywhere in the world and excel in their respective fields of study. One of the astounding questions that came for debate those days was whether we need huge college buildings and enormous infrastructure facilities when laptop, a mobile phone or any device serves the purpose. But interestingly, students slowly but steadily showed signs of boredom and ennui with the online classes and were eager to join the physical classes. Many of them went to the extent of demanding physical classes. This phenomenon has led to some of the significant questions that we, as educationists and policy makers need to seriously address with immediate priority.First and foremost, why is that students prefer physical classes in spite of the fact that best of the resource material is available on their finger tips? What are the expectations of students in the changed contemporary scenario? Will the words of Bill Gates on the complete irrelevance of physical campuses, classrooms and physical infrastructure prove to be prophetic?This paper will delve deep into these research questions by conducting an systematic empirical study of the phenomenon. The research partners wouldbe the managers of education, students, staff, parents and other stakeholders.It is envisaged that the outcome of the study will be of immense use in the context of most of the higher education institutions adopting virtual, blended or hybridized pedagogies. They will have tremendous implications to the higher education scenario of the future. The Gamma ray Burst Monitor (GBM) on board Fermi has been providing continuous data to the astronomical community since 2008 August 12. In this paper we present the results of the analysis of the first three years of these continuous data using the Earth occultation technique to monitor a catalog of 209 sources. From this catalog, we detect 99 sources, including 40 low-mass X-ray binary/neutron star systems, 31 high-mass X-ray binary neutron star systems, 12 black hole binaries, 12 active galaxies, 2 other sources, plus the Crab Nebula, and the Sun. Nine of these sources are detected in the 100-300 keV band, including seven black-hole binaries, the active galaxy Cen A, and the Crab. The Crab and Cyg X-1 are also detected in the 300-500 keV band. GBM provides complementary data to other sky-monitors below 100 keV and is the only all-sky monitor above 100 keV. We present our temporal and spectral analyses of 29 bursts from SGR J0501+4516, detected with the Gamma-ray Burst Monitor onboard the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope during the 13 days of the source activation in 2008 (August 22 to September 3). We find that the T90 durations of the bursts can be fit with a log-normal distribution with a mean value of ~ 123 ms. We also estimate for the first time event durations of Soft Gamma Repeater (SGR) bursts in photon space (i.e., using their deconvolved spectra) and find that these are very similar to the T90s estimated in count space (following a log-normal distribution with a mean value of ~ 124 ms). We fit the time-integrated spectra for each burst and the time-resolved spectra of the five brightest bursts with several models. We find that a single power law with an exponential cutoff model fits all 29 bursts well, while 18 of the events can also be fit with two black body functions. We expand on the physical interpretation of these two models and we compare their parameters and discuss their evolution. We show that the time-integrated and time-resolved spectra reveal that Epeak decreases with energy flux (and fluence) to a minimum of ~30 keV at F=8.7e-6 erg/cm2/s, increasing steadily afterwards. Two more sources exhibit a similar trend: SGRs J1550-5418 and 1806-20. The isotropic luminosity corresponding to these flux values is roughly similar for all sources (0.4-1.5 e40 erg/s)., Comment: accepted for publication in ApJ

The expression of the protooncogenes ETS1 and ETS2 has been studied in purified human T cells activated either by cross-linking of the T-cell receptor-CD3 complex on their cell surface or by direct stimulation with phorbol esters and ionomycin. Our results show that resting T cells express high levels of ETS1 mRNA and protein, while expression of ETS2 is undetectable. Upon T-cell activation, ETS2 mRNA and proteins are induced, while ETS1 gene expression decreases to very low levels. Late after stimulation, ETS1 mRNA is reinduced and maintained at a high level, while ETS2 gene expression decreases to undetectable levels. Therefore, it appears that in human T cells, ETS2 gene products are associated with cellular activation and proliferation, while ETS1 gene products are preferentially expressed in a quiescent state. The human ets-2 gene is a homolog of the v-ets oncogene of the E26 virus and codes for a 56-kilodalton nuclear protein. The ets-2 protein is phosphorylated and has a rapid turnover, with a half-life of 20 min. When human lymphocytic CEM cells were treated with the tumor promoter 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA), the level of the ets-2 protein was quickly elevated 5- to 20-fold. This effect of TPA was mimicked by a synthetic diacylglycerol, 1-oleoyl-2-acetyl glycerol, and was blocked by the protein kinase C inhibitor H7, indicating that protein kinase C is involved in the induction. The increase in the ets-2 protein was due to stabilization of the protein, because the protein had a half-life of more than 2 h in the presence of TPA and the ets-2 mRNA level did not increase significantly upon TPA treatment. The protein synthesis inhibitor cycloheximide enhanced the effect of TPA on the ets-2 protein and could itself slow turnover of the protein. Properties of the ets-2 protein, such as nuclear localization, phosphorylation, rapid turnover, and response to protein kinase C, indicate that this protein belongs to a group of oncogene proteins which are generally thought to have regulatory functions in the nucleus (e.g., myc, fos, myb, and p53). Our results suggest that protein kinase C, either directly or indirectly, regulates the level of the ets-2 protein by posttranslational mechanisms.
