Controllable photofluorochromic systems with high contrast and multicolor in both solutions and solid states are ideal candidates for the development of dynamic artificial intelligence. However, it is still challenging to realize multiple photochromism within one single molecule, not to mention good controllability. Herein, we report an aggregation-induced emission luminogen TPE-2MO2NT that undergoes oxidation cleavage upon light irradiation and is accompanied by tunable multicolor emission from orange to blue with time-dependence. The photocleavage mechanism revealed that the self-generation of reactive oxidants driving the catalyst-free oxidative cleavage process. A comprehensive analysis of TPE-2MO2NT and other comparative molecules demonstrates that the TPE-2MO2NT molecular scaffold can be easily modified and extended. Further, the multicolor microenvironmental controllability of TPE-2MO2NT photoreaction within polymer matrices enables the fabrication of dynamic fluorescence images and 4D information codes, providing strategies for advanced controllable information encryption. © The Author(s) 2024.

Porous organic polymers (POPs) have attracted great attention in past decades. Although diverse functional POPs have been developed, multistimuli-responsive POPs with excellent aggregate-state luminescence together with good chiroptical properties have rarely been reported. Herein, two pairs of Salen-type enantiomeric POPs with multistimuli-responsive luminescence and chiral features were designed and synthesized by facile polycondensation reactions between polyfunctional aggregation-induced emission luminogen (AIEgen)-containing salicylaldehyde derivatives and chiral diamines. With Salen units in polymer backbones as tetradentate ligands, a series of POP-metal complexes were further prepared. The obtained POPs and metal complexes show good porosity, high thermal stability, and obvious circular dichroism signals. Moreover, benefiting from the coexistence of AIEgen and Salen units in polymer structures, these POPs exhibit excellent luminescence performance in aggregate states and tunable fluorescence behaviors in response to external stimuli of Zn2+ ion, mechanical forces, organic solvent, and acids. Due to the dynamic feature of Schiff base C=N bonds, the present POPs can efficiently undergo hydrolysis reactions under strong acidic conditions to reproduce the AIEgen- containing monomers, and such an acid-induced degradation process can be directly visualized and dynamically monitored via fluorescence variation. These properties collectively make the POPs candidate materials for applications in heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis, fluorescence sensing, biomedicine, etc. © 2024 SIOC, CAS, Shanghai, & WILEY-VCH GmbH.

Aim: Long-distance dispersal (LDD) plays an important role in shaping the distribution of global biodiversity. Polyploidy could favour invasion and thereby facilitate LDD. However, how and to what extent polyploidy interacts with LDD remain unclear. Here, we test the putative role of polyploidy in the global dispersal of a cosmopolitan genus Rorippa. Location: Global. Time Period: Late Miocene to present. Major Taxa Studied: Rorippa Scop., Brassicaceae. Methods: We traced the biogeographical and speciation history for 17 diploids and 41 polyploids of Rorippa using variation from plastid genomes and multiple nuclear loci. The ploidy role in dispersal rate difference was demonstrated using trait-dependent biogeographical modelling. Results: LDD shaped the amphitropical disjunction of Rorippa, during which polyploids showed higher dispersal rates than those of diploids, with 5.6× increase under the best-fitted model. Five diploids and 21 polyploids were identified as products of transoceanic speciation events. Polyploidy-involved LDD was more common in terms of polyploidization following LDD than those preceding LDD. Main Conclusions: We demonstrate that polyploidy would be not only a driver but also a responder of LDD in Rorippa, highlighting a synergistic relationship between them. Our results provide a framework to uncover the biogeographical consequences of polyploidization and the joint roles of polyploidy and LDD in shaping the distribution of biodiversity.

Feature matching determines the orientation accuracy for the High Spatial Resolution (HSR) optical satellite stereos, subsequently impacting several significant applications such as 3D reconstruction and change detection. However, the matching of off-track HSR optical satellite stereos often encounters challenging conditions including wide-baseline observation, significant radiometric differences, multi-temporal changes, varying spatial resolutions, inconsistent spectral resolution, and diverse sensors. In this study, we evaluate various advanced feature matching algorithms for HSR optical satellite stereos. Utilizing a specially constructed dataset from five satellites across six challenging scenarios, HSROSS Dataset, we conduct a comparative analysis of four algorithms: the traditional SIFT, and deep-learning based methods including SuperPoint + SuperGlue, SuperPoint + LightGlue, and LoFTR. Our findings highlight overall superior performance of SuperPoint + LightGlue in balancing robustness, accuracy, distribution, and efficiency, showcasing its potential in complex HSR optical satellite scenarios., Comment: The manuscript is accepted as Oral Presentation in IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium(IGARSS 2024)

Purpose The development of assistive technologies that support people in social interactions has attracted increased attention in HCI. This paper presents a systematic review of studies of Socially Assistive Systems targeted at older adults and people with disabilities. The purpose is threefold: (1) Characterizing related assistive systems with a special focus on the system design, primarily including HCI technologies used and user-involvement approach taken; (2) Examining their ways of system evaluation; (3) Reflecting on insights for future design research. Methods A systematic literature search was conducted using the keywords “social interactions” and “assistive technologies” within the following databases: Scopus, Web of Science, ACM, Science Direct, PubMed, and IEEE Xplore. Results Sixty-five papers met the inclusion criteria and were further analyzed. Our results showed that there were 11 types of HCI technologies that supported social interactions for target users. The most common was cognitive and meaning understanding technologies, often applied with wearable devices for compensating users’ sensory loss; 33.85% of studies involved end-users and stakeholders in the design phase; Four types of evaluation methods were identified. The majority of studies adopted laboratory experiments to measure user-system interaction and system validation. Proxy users were used in system evaluation, especially in initial experiments; 42.46% of evaluations were conducted in field settings, primarily including the participants’ own homes and institutions. Conclusion We contribute an overview of Socially Assistive Systems that support social interactions for older adults and people with disabilities, as well as illustrate emerging technologies and research opportunities for future work.

Fluorescent polyelectrolytes have attracted enormous attention as functional polymer materials. In contrast with the widely studied conjugated polyelectrolytes with ionic groups in side chains, fluorescent main-chain charged polyelectrolytes (MCCPs) have rarely been explored due to the large synthetic difficulty. Herein, we develop a facile and atom-economical N-heterocyclic carbene-directed cascade C-H activation/annulation polymerization strategy that can transform readily available imidazolium substrates and internal diynes into multifunctional fluorescent MCCPs with complex structures and high molecular weights (absolute Mn up to 135 600) in nearly quantitative yields. The presence of multisubstituted polycyclic N-heteroaromatic cations in polymer backbones endow the obtained MCCPs with excellent solution processability, high thermal stability, and dual-state efficient fluorescence in both solution and aggregate states. Benefiting from the strong electron-withdrawing capability of the cationic heterocycles in main chains, multicolored aggregate-state fluorescence can be readily achieved by modifying the substituents around the cationic ring-fused core. Taking advantage of the good photosensitivity of the fluorescent MCCP thin films, multiscale and high-resolution fluorescent photopatterns with different colors can be facilely prepared with potential applications in optical display devices and anticounterfeiting systems. Moreover, the strong electrostatic interactions of these cationic MCCPs with anionic polyelectrolytes enable them to form multicolored fluorescent interfacial polyelectrolyte complexation microfibers with directly visualized internal structures. Such flexible microfibers can be further made into diversified forms of fiber-based macroscopic patterns or painting. © 2023 American Chemical Society.

Question answering methods are well-known for leveraging data bias, such as the language prior in visual question answering and the position bias in machine reading comprehension (extractive question answering). Current debiasing methods often come at the cost of significant in-distribution performance to achieve favorable out-of-distribution generalizability, while non-debiasing methods sacrifice a considerable amount of out-of-distribution performance in order to obtain high in-distribution performance. Therefore, it is challenging for them to deal with the complicated changing real-world situations. In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective novel loss function with adaptive loose optimization, which seeks to make the best of both worlds for question answering. Our main technical contribution is to reduce the loss adaptively according to the ratio between the previous and current optimization state on mini-batch training data. This loose optimization can be used to prevent non-debiasing methods from overlearning data bias while enabling debiasing methods to maintain slight bias learning. Experiments on the visual question answering datasets, including VQA v2, VQA-CP v1, VQA-CP v2, GQA-OOD, and the extractive question answering dataset SQuAD demonstrate that our approach enables QA methods to obtain state-of-the-art in- and out-of-distribution performance in most cases. The development of autonomous materials with desired performance and built-in visualizable sensing units is of great academic and industrial significance. Although a wide range of damage indication methods have been reported, the “turn-on” sensing mechanism by damaging events based on microcapsule systems, especially those relying on chemical reactions to elicit a chromogenic response, are still very limited. Herein, a facile and metal-free polymerization route with an interesting reaction-induced coloration effect is demonstrated. Under the catalysis of 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO), the polymerizations of difunctional or trifunctional activated alkynes proceed very quickly at 0 °C in air. A series of polymers composed of stereoregular enyne structure (major unit) and divinyl ether structure (minor unit) are obtained. Both the catalyst and monomers are colorless while the polymerized products are deep-colored. This process can be applied for the damage visualization of polymers using the microencapsulation technique. Microcapsules containing the reactive alkyne monomer are prepared and mixed in a DABCO-dispersed polymer film. Both the external and internal damage regions of this composite film can be readily visualized once the reaction is initiated from the ruptured microcapsules. Fused heterocyclic polymers with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) have attracted much attention due to their unique photoelectric properties, efficient aggregate-state fluorescence, high thermal stability, and superamplification effect as fluorescence sensors as well as multiple functionalities. Among various synthetic methodologies toward fused heterocyclic AIE polymers, polymerization based on triple bond-containing monomers such as alkynes and (iso)cyanides is a powerful synthesis tool that can in situ generate fused heterocyclic units in polymer backbones in high efficiency. In this Review, we summarize the recent progress in the synthesis of nitrogen-, oxygen-, and multiple heteroatom-containing fused cyclic polymers with AIE features based on polymerizations of triple bond-containing monomers. Furthermore, the high-tech applications of the corresponding fused heterocyclic AIE polymers in the visualization of morphological structures, fluorescence chemo-sensors, stimuli-responsive materials, and photodynamic therapy are illustrated. Finally, perspectives on the challenges and future development directions of this field are discussed. © 2022 American Chemical Society.

Social interactions significantly impact the quality of life for people with special needs (e.g., older adults with dementia and children with autism). They may suffer loneliness and social isolation more often than people without disabilities. There is a growing demand for technologies to satisfy the social needs of such user groups. However, evaluating these systems can be challeng-ing due to the extra difficulty of gathering data from people with special needs (e.g., communication barriers involving older adults with dementia and children with autism). Thus, in this systematic review, we focus on studying data gathering methods for evaluating socially assistive systems (SAS). Six academic databases (i.e., Scopus, Web of Science, ACM, Science Direct, PubMed, and IEEE Xplore) were searched, covering articles published from January 2000 to July 2021. A total of 65 articles met the inclusion criteria for this systematic review. The results showed that existing SASs most often targeted people with visual impairments, older adults, and children with autism. For instance, a common type of SASs aimed to help blind people perceive social signals (e.g., facial expressions). SASs were most commonly assessed with interviews, questionnaires, and observation data. Around half of the interview studies only involved target users, while the other half also in-cluded secondary users or stakeholders. Questionnaires were mostly used with older adults and people with visual impairments to measure their social interaction, emotional state, and system us-ability. A great majority of observational studies were carried out with users in special age groups, especially older adults and children with autism. We thereby contribute an overview of how different data gathering methods were used with various target users of SASs. Relevant insights are ex-tracted to inform future development and research.

To explore the law of megaproject social responsibility behavior (MSRB) among internal organizations under institutional pressure, this paper presents a theoretical and empirical study to investigate how institutional pressure affects MSRB through the mediating role of organizational social responsibility cognition and the mediating roles of the communication mechanism and relationship strength based on new institutional sociology. Based on a total of 147 responses from a broad questionnaire survey, structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to test the proposed hypotheses. The research results show that institutional pressure has a promoting effect on MSRB, and organizational social responsibility cognition mediates the relationship between institutional pressure and MSRB. Additionally, the communication mechanism and relationship strength have no effect on the relationship between institutional pressures and MSRB. The research results provide a new theoretical foundation for the analysis of MSRB and practical suggestions for policymakers on the governance of MSRB.

Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers or BERT~\cite{devlin-etal-2019-bert} has been one of the base models for various NLP tasks due to its remarkable performance. Variants customized for different languages and tasks are proposed to further improve the performance. In this work, we investigate supervised continued pre-training~\cite{gururangan-etal-2020-dont} on BERT for Chinese topic classification task. Specifically, we incorporate prompt-based learning and contrastive learning into the pre-training. To adapt to the task of Chinese topic classification, we collect around 2.1M Chinese data spanning various topics. The pre-trained Chinese Topic Classification BERTs (TCBERTs) with different parameter sizes are open-sourced at \url{https://huggingface.co/IDEA-CCNL}.

Nowadays, foundation models become one of fundamental infrastructures in artificial intelligence, paving ways to the general intelligence. However, the reality presents two urgent challenges: existing foundation models are dominated by the English-language community; users are often given limited resources and thus cannot always use foundation models. To support the development of the Chinese-language community, we introduce an open-source project, called Fengshenbang, which leads by the research center for Cognitive Computing and Natural Language (CCNL). Our project has comprehensive capabilities, including large pre-trained models, user-friendly APIs, benchmarks, datasets, and others. We wrap all these in three sub-projects: the Fengshenbang Model, the Fengshen Framework, and the Fengshen Benchmark. An open-source roadmap, Fengshenbang, aims to re-evaluate the open-source community of Chinese pre-trained large-scale models, prompting the development of the entire Chinese large-scale model community. We also want to build a user-centered open-source ecosystem to allow individuals to access the desired models to match their computing resources. Furthermore, we invite companies, colleges, and research institutions to collaborate with us to build the large-scale open-source model-based ecosystem. Synthetic and biological polymers contribute significantly to modern life. Deciphering their properties and involved dynamic process is of vital importance. Thanks to the discovery of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) technique, the microenvironmental variation of polymers can be visualized clearly in real time based on the mechanism of restriction of intramolecular motion. In this chapter, we summarize the recent advances of application of AIE technique for visualizing dynamic process in polymer-related field.

The sensitive detection and dynamic monitoring of the structural health of polymers are crucial to increase their quality, reliability, and durability. Although a lot of effort has been devoted to the indication of static damaged and/or healed states of polymers, the simple, sensitive, and real-time monitoring of dynamic damaging-healing processes still remains challenging. In this work, a facile design strategy for multifunctional polymer coatings that can sensitively show their damaging-healing processes in an on-site, real-time, and full-field manner is demonstrated. By embedding UV-blocking microcapsules containing the diisocyanate solution of an aggregation-induced emission luminogen (AIEgen) into a polymer matrix, immediate turn-on fluorescence is observed upon damage, and dual-signal variations in both the fluorescence intensity and color can be clearly visualized during the dynamic healing process. These changes can also be readily and semi-quantitatively detected by using a fluorescence spectrometer and digital image correlation analysis. Such a high-contrast fluorescence change is achieved due to the collective effects of AIE and twisted intramolecular charge transfer of the luminogen. Benefiting from the multifunctional microcapsules, the composite polymeric coatings exhibit excellent photo-protective and water-proof performances in addition to the autonomous damaging-healing visualization capability, which are appealing to various practical applications. © 2022 The Royal Society of Chemistry

Multicomponent polymerization (MCP) has received worldwide attention as a powerful synthetic strategy for various polymers with complex structures. However, few studies have been reported to fully utilize the monomer combination diversity of MCPs to facilitate the synthesis of diversified polymers with novel structures and advanced functionalities. Herein, we report a facile multicomponent polymerization route based on the diversity-oriented synthesis. Using varying combinations of difunctionalizable alkynes, sulfonyl azides, and Schiff bases, diverse functional polymers with multisubstituted small heterocycles are successfully produced. High stereoselectivity is observed on specific polymeric products. The obtained azetidine-derivative heterocycles exhibit high stability even after treatment with extra HCl and KOH for 48 h. Additionally, polymers with tetraphenylethylene moieties show strong aggregation-induced emission and can function as promising chemosensors for detecting Pd2+ and Cr2O72-. The presented facile MCP routes can bring new inspiration to polymer chemistry, and the fascinating functionalities of the obtained polymers with stable four-membered heterocycles can promote further research on the design, modification, and applications of diversified functional polymer materials. © 2022 American Chemical Society. The development of straightforward and efficient synthetic methods toward ring-fused heteroaromatic polymers with attractive functionalities has great significance in both chemistry and materials science. Herein, we develop a facile cascade C-Hactivated polyannulation route that can in situ generate multiple ring-fused aza-heteroaromatic polymers from readily available monomers in an atom-economical manner. A series of complex polybenzimidazole derivatives with high absolute molecular weights of up to 24 000 are efficiently produced in high yields within 2 h. Benefiting from their unique imidazole-containing ringfused structures with multiple aryl pendants, the obtained polymers show excellent thermal and morphological stability, good solution processability, high refractive index, small chromic dispersion, as well as remarkable acid-base-responsive fluorescence. Taking advantage of the ratiometric fluorescence response of the triphenylamine-substituted heteroaromatic polymer to pH variations, we successfully apply it as a sensitive fluorescence probe for the mapping and quantitative analysis of intracellular pH in live cells. Furthermore, through the simple N-methylation reaction of the ring-fused polybenzimidazoles, diverse azonia-containing polyelectrolytes are readily produced, which can efficiently kill cancer cells via the synergistic effects of dark toxicity and phototoxicity.

Along with the technological significance are the challenges in their synthesis. Traditional synthetic strategies toward heterocyclic polymers often require the direct attachment of heterocycles to polymer backbones, which are generally limited by the lack of suitable and low-cost heterocyclic monomers, tedious reaction process, difficulties in incorporation of multiple substitutents, etc. Alternatively, in situ construction of heterocyclic polymers via triple-bond based polymerization offers promising prospects. This review summarized the recent progress on polymerizations of triple-bond based monomers including alkynes, nitriles, and isonitriles that can in situ generate heterocyclic polymers. However, current strategies of prompting PCE always involve complex synthesis or modification of photothermal agents, thereby significantly inhibiting the practical applications and fundamental understanding of photothermal conversion. A facile strategy is herein present for boosting PCE by transforming photothermal agents from aggregated state to dispersed state. Compared to aggregated state, the developed photothermal agents with semiconducting nature can rotate freely in dispersed state, which allows for an efficient nonradiative dissipation through twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) effect, consequentially offering excellent photothermal performance. Noteworthy, the state transformation can be achieved by virtue of releasing photothermal molecules from nanoparticles on the basis of a pH-responsive polymer nanocarrier, and the PCE is elevated from 43% to 60% upon changing the pH values from 7.4 to 5.0. Moreover, the nanoparticle disassembly and state transformation behaviors can also smoothly proceed in lysosome of cancer cells, demonstrating a distinct photothermal therapeutic performance for cancer ablation. Such polymers are capable of altering their chemical and/or physical properties, such as chemical structures, chain conformation, solubility, shape, morphologies, and optical properties, in response to single or multiple stimuli. Among various stimuli-responsive polymers, those with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties possess the advantages of high sensitivity, fast response, large contrast, excellent photostability, and low background noise. The changes in fluorescence signal can be conveniently detected and monitored using portable instruments. The integration of AIE and stimuli responses into one polymer system provides a feasible and effective strategy for the development of smart polymers with high sensitivity to environmental variations. Here, we review the recent advances in the design, preparation, performance, and applications of functional synthetic polymer systems with AIE and stimuli responses. Various AIE-based polymer systems with responsiveness toward single physical or chemical stimuli as well as multiple stimuli are summarized with specific examples. Supramolecular approaches have opened up vast possibilities to construct versatile materials, especially those with stimuli-responsiveness and integrated functionalities of multi-modal diagnosis and synergistic therapeutics. In this study, a hybrid theranostic nanosystem named TTPY-Py⊂CP5@AuNR is constructed via facile host–guest interactions, where TTPY-Py is a photosensitizer with aggregation-induced emission and CP5@AuNR represents the carboxylatopillar[5]arene (CP5)-modified Au nanorods. TTPY-Py⊂CP5@AuNR integrates the respective advantages of TTPY-Py and CP5@AuNR such as the high performance of reactive oxygen species generation and photothermal conversion, and meanwhile shows fluorescence responses to both temperature and pH stimuli. The successful modification of CP5 macrocycles on AuNRs surfaces can eliminate the cytotoxicity of AuNRs and enable them to serve as the nanocarrier of TTPY-Py for further theranostic applications. Significantly, in vitro and in vivo evaluations demonstrate that this supramolecular nanotheranostic system possesses multiple modalities including intensive fluorescence imaging (FLI), photoacoustic imaging (PAI), efficient photodynamic therapy (PDT), and photothermal therapy (PTT), indicating its great potential for FLI-PAI imaging-guided synergistic PDT-PTT therapy. Moreover, TTPY-Py can be released upon activation by the acidic environment of lysosomes and then specifically light up mitochondria. The alkyne multicomponent polymerizations (MCPs) developed in the early 2000s open a new door for the synthesis of conjugated heterochain polymers with diverse structures and unique properties. This review presents the progress in novel heterochain polymers constructed by alkyne-based MCPs in the last three years. Mechanochromic fluorescent polymers (MFP) are a class of smart materials by utilizing sensitive fluorescent motifs to detect polymer chain events upon mechanical stimuli. Taking advantage of the unique aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect, a variety of MFP systems that can self-report their mechanical states and mechano-induced structural and property changes through fluorescence signals have been developed. In this feature article, an overview of the recent progress on MFP systems enabled by AIE process is presented. The main design principles, including physically doping dispersed or microencapsulated AIE luminogens (AIEgens) into polymer matrix, chemically linking AIEgens in polymer backbones, and utilizing the clusterization-triggered emission of polymers containing nonconventional luminogens, are discussed with representative examples. Background Gangliosides are a class of sphingolipids that are present in the cell membranes of vertebrates. Gangliosides influence a broad range of cellular processes through effects on signal transduction, being found abundantly in the brain, and having a role in neurodevelopment. Objective We aimed to assess the effects of maternal daily consumption of ganglioside-enriched milk vs non-enriched milk and a non-supplemented group of pregnant women on maternal ganglioside levels and pregnancy outcomes. Design Double-blind parallel randomized controlled trial. Methods 1,500 women aged 20-40 years were recruited in Chongqing (China) between 11 and 14 weeks of a singleton pregnancy, and randomized into three groups: Control-received standard powdered milk formulation (>= 4 mg gangliosides/day); Complex milk lipid-enhanced (CML-E) group-same formulation enriched with complex milk lipids (>= 8 mg gangliosides/day) from milk fat globule membrane; Reference-received no milk. Serum ganglioside levels were measured in a randomly selected subsample of 250 women per group. Results CML-E milk was associated with marginally greater total gangliosides levels in maternal serum compared to Control (13.02 vs 12.69 mu g/ml; p = 0.034) but not to Reference group. CML-E milk did not affect cord blood ganglioside levels. Among the 1500 women, CML-E milk consumption was associated with a lower rate of gestational diabetes mellitus than control milk [relative risk 0.80 (95% CI 0.64, 0.99)], but which was not different to the Reference group. CML-E milk supplementation had no other effects on maternal or newborn health. Conclusions Maternal supplementation with milk fat globule membrane, as a source of gangliosides, was not associated with any adverse health outcomes, and did not increase serum gangliosides compared with the non-supplemented reference group.

In March 2020, the World Health Organization determined that the COVID–19 outbreak is a global pandemic. The “Biobanque québécoise de la COVID-19” (BQC19) is a pan–provincial initiative undertaken in Québec, Canada to enable the collection, storage and sharing of samples and data related to the COVID-19 crisis. As a disease-oriented biobank based on high-quality biosamples and clinical data of hospitalized and non-hospitalized SARS-CoV-2 PCR positive and negative individuals. The BQC19 follows a legal and ethical management framework approved by local health authorities. The biosamples include plasma, serum, peripheral blood mononuclear cells and DNA and RNA isolated from whole blood. In addition to the clinical variables, BQC19 will provide in-depth analytical data derived from the biosamples including whole genome and transcriptome sequencing, proteome and metabolome analyses, multiplex measurements of key circulating markers as well as anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody responses. BQC19 will provide the scientific and medical communities access to data and samples to better understand, manage and ultimately limit, the impact of COVID-19. In this paper we present BQC19, describe the process according to which it is governed and organized, and address opportunities for future research collaborations. BQC19 aims to be a part of a global communal effort addressing the challenges of COVID–19.

Dialogue State Tracking (DST), which is the process of inferring user goals by estimating belief states given the dialogue history, plays a critical role in task-oriented dialogue systems. A coreference phenomenon observed in multi-turn conversations is not addressed by existing DST models, leading to sub-optimal performances. In this paper, we propose Coreference Dialogue State Tracker (CDST) that explicitly models the coreference feature. In particular, at each turn, the proposed model jointly predicts the coreferred domain-slot pair and extracts the coreference values from the dialogue context. Experimental results on MultiWOZ 2.1 dataset show that the proposed model achieves the state-of-the-art joint goal accuracy of 56.47%., Comment: Accepted by Interspeech2021

Socially competent robots should be equipped with the ability to perceive the world that surrounds them and communicate about it in a human-like manner. Representative skills that exhibit such ability include generating image descriptions and visually grounded referring expressions. In the NLG community, these generation tasks are largely investigated in non-interactive and language-only settings. However, in face-to-face interaction, humans often deploy multiple modalities to communicate, forming seamless integration of natural language, hand gestures and other modalities like sketches. To enable robots to describe what they perceive with speech and sketches/gestures, we propose to model the task of generating natural language together with free-hand sketches/hand gestures to describe visual scenes and real life objects, namely, visually-grounded multimodal description generation. Background Gangliosides are a class of sphingolipids that are present in the cell membranes of vertebrates. Gangliosides influence a broad range of cellular processes through effects on signal transduction, being found abundantly in the brain, and having a role in neurodevelopment. Objective We aimed to assess the effects of maternal daily consumption of ganglioside-enriched milk vs non-enriched milk and a non-supplemented group of pregnant women on maternal ganglioside levels and pregnancy outcomes. Design Double-blind parallel randomized controlled trial. Methods 1,500 women aged 20-40 years were recruited in Chongqing (China) between 11 and 14 weeks of a singleton pregnancy, and randomized into three groups: Control-received standard powdered milk formulation (>= 4 mg gangliosides/day); Complex milk lipid-enhanced (CML-E) group-same formulation enriched with complex milk lipids (>= 8 mg gangliosides/day) from milk fat globule membrane; Reference-received no milk. Serum ganglioside levels were measured in a randomly selected subsample of 250 women per group. Results CML-E milk was associated with marginally greater total gangliosides levels in maternal serum compared to Control (13.02 vs 12.69 mu g/ml; p = 0.034) but not to Reference group. CML-E milk did not affect cord blood ganglioside levels. Among the 1500 women, CML-E milk consumption was associated with a lower rate of gestational diabetes mellitus than control milk [relative risk 0.80 (95% CI 0.64, 0.99)], but which was not different to the Reference group. CML-E milk supplementation had no other effects on maternal or newborn health. Conclusions Maternal supplementation with milk fat globule membrane, as a source of gangliosides, was not associated with any adverse health outcomes, and did not increase serum gangliosides compared with the non-supplemented reference group.

A facile alkyne-based multicomponent polymerization route was developed for the construction of solution-processable fluoropolymers with multiple functionalities. The palladium-catalyzed one-pot polycouplings of diynes, arylboronic acids, and perfluoroalkyl diiodides proceed efficiently in THF/H2O mixtures at 39 °C for 12 h under nitrogen atmosphere, furnishing E-configuration-predominant fluoropolydienes (FPDs) with high molecular weights (Mw up to 69,400) in satisfactory yields (up to 90.3%). This polymerization method shows good tolerance to moisture and various functional groups. The obtained fluoropolymers possess good solution processability and film-forming ability, which enable them to be used as functional films. Their thin films exhibit photoresponsive fluorescence and high refractive indices. Well-resolved fluorescent 2D-photopatterns can be readily generated by the photolithography technique. Besides, these polymers show good thermal stability with high degradation temperatures at 5% weight loss of up to 364 °C. © 2020 American Chemical Society.

Provided herein are spirocyclic polymers that exhibit aggregation-enhanced emission properties and methods of preparation thereof. The spirocyclic polymers can be used in the construction of integrated silicon photonics and to prepare two-dimensional fluorescent photopatterns useful for the manufacture of biological sensing and probing systems, optical writing and reading, anti-counterfeiting applications and the construction of optical display devices.
