The bladder cancer types include 1) non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and 2) muscle invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Metastases and chemoresistance in MIBC patients are the leading causes of the high death rate. c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) is an important factor for the undifferentiated state of cancer cells. JNK belongs to the mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) family; it is activated by various extracellular stimuli, such as stress, radiation, and growth factors and mediates diverse cellular functions, such as apoptosis, autophagy, proliferation, invasion, and migration by mediating AKT (Ak strain transforming), ATG (Autophagy related), mTOR (Mammalian target of rapamycin), and caspases 3, 8, and 9. Soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (sTREM2) is derived from cleavage of TREM2, which is expressed on the cell surface of microlgia and other tissue-specific macrophages. In the present study, the changes in the sTREM2 levels after ischemic stroke (IS) and their association with clinical outcomes were evaluated. A total of 43 patients diagnosed with non-cardioembolic IS between June 2011 and May 2014 were consecutively included in this study. Patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis or intra-arterial thrombectomy were excluded. Plasma samples were collected three times (days 1, 7, and 90) after ictus. The sTREM2 level was measured in the samples using the highly sensitive solid-phase proximity ligation assay (SP-PLA). Among the 43 subjects, higher initial NIH stroke scale (NIHSS) score (P = 0.005), early increment of sTREM2 (P < 0.001), and late decrement of sTREM2 (P = 0.002), were more common in patients with poor outcome. Based on multivariate analysis, initial NIHSS score (P = 0.015) and early increment of sTREM2 (P = 0.032) were independently associated with poor outcome. The results from the present study indicate that increment of sTREM2 level at the early phase was a predictor of poor outcome. Serial follow-up of sTREM2 may aid prognosis after stroke.

Of the various approaches to manage or prevent injuries on the ankle joint, Kinesio taping improves static posture stability, stimulating the neuromuscular control system. This study aims to investigate of ankle taping on the peak torque and average power of ankle muscle in young heathy women. Taping was applied to the extensor digitorum, tibialis anterior, gastrocnemius, soleus of the ankle in 16 healthy women. Isokinetic measurement of the dorsiflexion and plantarflexion patterns were recorded before and after taping. As a result of this study, the pre-post isokinetic parameters improved significantly for plantarflexion (p<0.05) while those for dorsiflexion did not. Through this study, it was found out that ankle taping improved the muscle power of the plantarflexor of young healthy women, and it is expected that applying ankle taping would help young healthy women.

Patients and methods: We conducted a nested case–control study for a randomly selected population of 1,561 breast cancer patients and 6,002 matched controls from the National Cancer Screening Program. Breast density was measured and recorded by two independent radiologists using the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS). Associations between BI-RADS density and breast cancer risk were evaluated according to screening results, time elapsed since receiving non-recall results, age, and menopausal status after adjusting for possible covariates. In this work we present an alternative approach for realizing desired IR devices with appropriate operating wavelengths in the MWIR region utilizing In(GaAl)Sb quantum dots embedded in an InAs matrix grown by MBE. The QDs exhibit spatially indirect interband transitions in a type-II broken bandgap alignment, with a transition energy that can be tuned by bandgap and strain engineering utilizing either the quantum dot size or the incorporation of Ga or (GaAl) into the QDs. Furthermore, the growth of such QDs does not require sophisticated epitaxial designs needed for superlattices or quantum cascade structures regarding large numbers of alternating layers and very exact interfaces. The QD structures are expected to exhibit key advantages for IR devices e.g. higher operating temperature, lower power consumption, size, weight, and cost. The structural and composition properties of designed and grown In(GaAl)Sb QDs were characterized using AFM, SEM, TEM, and XRD. The corresponding optical properties, both in terms of absorption and emission, were analyzed and compared for selected QD samples before and after annealing at 650 °C.

In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, histone H3 lysine 56 acetylation (H3K56ac) occurs in newly synthesized histones that are deposited throughout the genome during DNA replication. Defects in H3K56ac sensitize cells to genotoxic agents, suggesting that this modification plays an important role in the DNA damage response. However, the links between histone acetylation, the nascent chromatin structure, and the DNA damage response are poorly understood. Here we report that cells devoid of H3K56ac are sensitive to DNA damage sustained during transient exposure to methyl methanesulfonate (MMS) or camptothecin but are only mildly affected by hydroxyurea. We demonstrate that, after exposure to MMS, H3K56ac-deficient cells cannot complete DNA replication and eventually segregate chromosomes with intranuclear foci containing the recombination protein Rad52. In addition, we provide evidence that these phenotypes are not due to defects in base excision repair, defects in DNA damage tolerance, or a lack of Rad51 loading at sites of DNA damage. Our results argue that the acute sensitivity of H3K56ac-deficient cells to MMS and camptothecin stems from a failure to complete the repair of specific types of DNA lesions by recombination and/or from defects in the completion of DNA replication.
