- Abstract
This thesis examines how the wealthiest apex of the capitalist class, a segment commonly referred to as ‘the super-rich’, is represented in Swedish legacy newspapers. As decades of neoliberal reforms have paved the way for increasing wealth concentration at the very top, the super-rich has emerged as both a material and discursive phenomenon. The news media provides an influential site for studying meaning-making around the super-rich in the context of the underlying tensions of the neoliberal capitalist social order. Combining Nancy Fraser’s theory of normative contradictions with a critical political economy approach to the media, this thesis explores mediated representations of the super-rich as sites of ideological struggle between ideals of market justice and social justice. The thesis conducts an in-depth Critical Discourse Analysis to uncover what discourses Swedish newspapers – both in contemporary and historical settings – draw upon when representing the super-rich. The thesis consists of three case studies, each zooming in on different dimensions of the super-rich. The findings suggest that, while the feature reporting on the super-rich is no twithout its ambivalences, the critique is largely limited to questioning the morality of individual billionaires or business models, not billionaire wealth in itself. The thesis also shows how the secrecy surrounding the super-rich, hailed as a key part of the reproduction of economic inequality, can be mobilized by the tabloid media to intensify the ‘wealth porn’ genre rather than questioning inequalities per se. It also argues that the longterm coverage of the Swedish wealth tax in the liberal/conservative press between 1969 and 2007 delegitimated the tax as an immoral and irrational anomaly in a globalized world, paving the way for the social acceptance of large individual fortunes. As such, the thesis provides a comprehensive account of how the news media operates to incorporate the super-rich into the justice na

- Abstract
Seldom in the era of the convoluted Gordian knot of mediatised societies has a theoretical concept emerged that has the potential to cut through the tangle of information, misinformation and disinformation. Seldom have theoretical concepts allowed academia and media policymakers to trumpet EUREKA! In the era of mediatised societies simultaneously experiencing information overload and scarcity of truthful and reliable information, societal potential for deliberative communication becomes more important than ever. A central proposition of this book is that contemporary democratic societies ought to create a resilient communication culture to strengthen European democracy. Proactive, wisdom-based media governance is proposed to mitigate the risks for deliberative communication resulting from media transformations. The novelty of this book is the methodology for detecting those emerging risks through regularly analysing and assessing each country’s capability of monitoring their mediascapes. This monitoring of mediascapes means asking critical questions, such as: What exactly is known about the consequences of media transformations producing risks for deliberative communication and consequently, democracy? What is the worth of this knowledge (or What is this knowledge worth)? What knowledge is not known and where are the information gaps? This book focuses on the capability of a sample of 14 EU countries to collect relevant data, carry out research and analysis and finally assess the risks and opportunities associated with media development in terms of the societies’ potential for deliberative communication. To turn the risks into opportunities, three strategies can be used: (1) setting a research agenda that takes into consideration the needs of society, not enterprises, and establish a policy of sustainable funding of journalism, media and communication research; (2) addressing the trend of the increasing volume of publications and the challenge of information overloa

- Abstract
This book offers an intermedial approach to truthful communication. Bringing together a wide range of media types and interactions from a transmedial perspective, the volume maps out how truth claims are made in different contexts, and how different media promise to create a truthful perception of the social world. The flexible communicative possibilities of digital technology have a significant impact on our perception of truth and truthfulness of communication. Bot accounts, deep fake videos, or AI technology draw attention to how reliable communication is destabilized and questioned. In this unstable climate, binaries such as true/false, authentic/fake and fiction/facts are difficult to apply. Instead, it is crucial to investigate how media products construct truthfulness in different ways. The volume brings together various media types and contexts such as press conferences, documentaries and mockumentaries, images in magazines and on social media, horror movies, biopics, and educational games and explores how truth claims, authenticity discourses, and knowledge communication are established and how they collide, merge, or are confused.

Intermedial Ecocriticism: The Climate Crisis Through Art and Media provides an extensive understanding of the climate crisis as it is represented in a number of medial forms, including scientific reports, popular science, graphic novels, documentaries, websites, feature films, and advertising. Theoretically, this is the first book that combines two important theories from the humanities: ecocriticism and intermedial studies. The book carefully develops Intermedial Ecocriticism as a method of investigating how climate crisis is represented and communicated through diverse media types. The chapters each include a comparative analysis of two or three specific media products and how they mediate the climate crisis., The publication of this book in an open access format is made possible by the Linnaeus University Center for Intermedial and Multimodal Studies (IMS) and the University Library of Linnaeus University.Open Access content has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution- Non Commercial- No Derivatives (CC-BY-NC-ND) license.

- Abstract
This work aims to establish under what newsworthiness criteria the media have incorporated the Climate Summits and the publication of the IPCC Reports into their agenda. The coverage of climate change carried out by El País and El Mundo is analyzed, comparing the main news milestones on climate issues in recent years: Climate Summits (COP24, COP25, COP26, COP27) and IPCC Partial Reports using the content analysis methodology. It is observed that the space and relevance given to these pieces is greater in El País, being in both cases dependent on Organizational Communication, especially Public Relations activities. Activism, proximity and controversy –classic newsworthiness criteria– are identified as key elements in the mentioned coverage. It is determined that climate change continues not to be regularly incorporated into the media agenda, with unequal coverage depending on the media and editorial trends., El objetivo principal del trabajo es establecer bajo qué criterios de noticiabilidad han incorporado los medios las COP y la publicación de Informes del IPCC en su agenda.

- Abstract
Social protests were crucial to the election of Colombia's progressive government in 2022. However, it's role in the violence against Venezuelan migrants that preceded it is still unclear. This paper examines racial bias in media responses to Venezuelan migrants during Colombia's 2019-2021 social protests. Theorists suggest that structural changes like migration can normalize hostility against vulnerable groups when specific conditions increase hostile perceptions. Colombia's press has not been scrutinized for misanthropic and hostile views, focusing on xenophobic urban riots that occurred alongside social protests in November 2019. We conducted a content analysis of Colombian newspapers, linking migration, violence, and protests, along with public migration data from Venezuela. Our findings reveal that social movements in Colombia intersect with contemporary Venezuelan migration, highlighting the ambivalence of social protests. While protests may have shifted attention away from racist attributions toward Venezuelan migrants, they do not signify a new perception of vulnerable populations., Los cambios estructurales, como la migración, pueden normalizar la hostilidad hacia grupos vulnerables cuando se aumentan las percepciones hostiles.

- Abstract

- Abstract
This article explores how being a small island jurisdiction affects actors in the journalism sector. The media is often referred to as the fourth estate, an institution inherently important for democracy. By scrutinizing politicians, journalists have the possibility to reveal transgressions and provide the public insight into how powerholders are performing as state officials. With this knowledge, the public can make informed decisions as to who will earn their vote in coming elections. This article studies the space for manoeuvre of investigative journalism in a small island state where the interconnectedness of people – journalists, sources, and powerholders – is a fact. It does so by studying the case of Cape Verde, a small island nation with 560 000 residents. Interviews with 12 Cape Verdian journalists from a range of the most important media outlets in the country, reveal that although freedom of expression and freedom of the press are constitutionally guaranteed, there are substantial practical limitations of free journalism. Respondents tell of widespread self-censorship, underfunding, and political interference as aspects that limit the possibility of conducting their work in a manner that would make them the watchdog institution that most of them aspire to and wish they could be., Large Lessons from Small Cases: Façade or Democracy in Kiribati, Vanuatu and São Tomé and Príncipe?

- Abstract
Cross-sector partnerships (XSP) that address complex societal issues tend to struggle to achieve a substantial impact. To attain successful collaboration, the way in which these XSPs balance participation and efficiency in collaborative practice is vital. While it is commonly examined in a face-to-face environment, this study investigates the practice in a digital context. Based on observations of virtual meetings in an XSP on climate change mitigation, a multimodal discourse analysis presents how affordances of communicative channels influenced the relationship of participation and efficiency, with consequences of increased centralization, virtual methods of governance and difficulties of dealing with complexity.

- Abstract
We approach field-configuring events (FCEs) as gatherings that engender formative moments in the trajectory of technologies, professions, or industries. Previous research has focused on the field-level consequences of FCEs, implying we still know little about how these events are produced and sustained. Our aim in this paper is concomitantly to theorize the particular role of prizes as elements that help produce and sustain FCEs. Drawing on a qualitative case study of awards allocated at the 2018 Gothenburg Book Fair, we show how prize givers arduously attempt to raise issues and celebrate accomplishments in ways that are packaged for dissemination through media outlets. And these awards generate occasional visibility for prize givers and – by extension – for event organizers. Our paper contributes by highlighting how FCEs and prizes co-construct each other, and how such co- construction regularly unfolds in relation to a media logic that favors simplification and standardization.

- Abstract
This paper aims to study the photographs published by Spanish digital newspapers (2017-2021) on Artificial Intelligence (AI), with particular attention to gender differences and the role of women. The final sample is 6,466 images. As a result, it is worth highlighting the underrepresentation of women, which is in itself a feedback of the gender segregation that currently exists in this sector. From a qualitative point of view, the images that promote gender stereotypes respond to three key concepts: the sexual division of labor, present in the design of robotics and AI; the sexual objectification of women by associating an image of femininity to sex robots; and, additionally, the underrepresentation of women and their lack of prominence in the scientific advances reported., El artículo se centra en las fotografías que publican los diarios digitales españoles (2017-2021) sobre Inteligencia Artificial (IA), con especial atención a las diferencias de género y al papel de las mujeres.

- Abstract
The concept of Blue Communication arises from the need to categorise a new way of transmitting knowledge and dissemination, hand in hand with the Blue Economy (Pauli, 2010). The objective is to analyse Blue Communication in the Andalusian (Department of Sustainability, Environment and Blue Economy) and local (Department of Sustainability and Environment of Malaga City Council) public administration through their Facebook profiles; in addition to the media coverage of two media (Diario Sur and Ideal de Andalucía) for seven months. A methodology has been designed that integrates a formal-descriptive, thematic and interaction analysis of own and earned media. - Abstract
This study sought to assess the level of prominence given to children's rights stories in two major newspapers with extensive reach in Kenya and the East Africa region: The Daily Nation and The Standard. Specifically, the study conducted a content analysis to explore the volume of coverage dedicated to children’s stories between January and December 2020. The study further examined the prominence given to children’s rights to education, health, and protection from child labour in the selected newspapers. Agenda-setting theory was utilized, and a purposive sampling technique was adopted to select the two newspapers, as well as stratified random sampling for selecting the newspaper articles. Additionally, eight editors and reporters who write and report about children’s issues for the selected media organizations were purposively sampled to participate in Key Informant Interviews. The study found 303 online articles which had general stories featuring children’s issues but analyzed 93 articles (55 in The Daily Nation and 38 in The Standard) with relevant content where children were the main focus. The research findings revealed that most articles about children (72%) were presented as news reports, and there was generally low coverage of child rights issues. However, the media provided opportunities for children to comment on their issues without violating the ethical principles of journalism. Based on these findings, the study concludes that there was low coverage of child rights issues in the media. It recommends that media organizations hire and retain specialist journalists who write and report about children’s issues, media stakeholders use awards to motivate and inspire outstanding child rights journalists, and that academia incorporate children reporting as a unit into journalism education curricula.

- Abstract
This study explores the portrayal of girls engaged in violence within Swedish newspapers, focusing on contemporary representations in the media landscape. News media plays a pivotal role in shaping societal perceptions and norms, including those surrounding violence and gender. Analyzing media depictions of girls’ violence is crucial as it influences our understanding of gender norms and violence. We examined newspaper articles from 2021 to discern how violent girls were depicted, the portrayal of their actions, and whether they were given agency in the narratives. Utilizing gender theory with an intersectional lens, we scrutinized how Swedish media reported on and portrayed girls’ violence. Three key themes emerged: the characteristics of violent girls, the forms of violence, and explanations for their behavior. Notably, explanations for girls’ violence often focused narrowly on individual or relational factors, neglecting broader social contexts. Additionally, the girls were rarely given a platform to express their perspectives. Media portrayals positioned them as deviant from both feminine and violent norms, reinforcing societal stereotypes.

- Abstract
The link between technology and sleep is more complex than originally thought. In this updated theoretical review, we propose a new model informed by the growing body of evidence in the area over the past 10 years. The main theoretical change is the addition of bi-directional links between the use of technology and sleep problems. We begin by reviewing the evidence to date for the originally proposed mechanisms of bright light, arousal, nighttime sleep disruptions, and sleep displacement. Then, in support of the new direction of effect (sleep problems preceding technology use), we propose two new mechanisms: technology before sleep might be used as a time filler and/or as an emotional regulation strategy to facilitate the sleep-onset process. Finally, we present potential moderators of the association between technology and sleep, in recognition of protective and vulnerability factors that may mitigate or exacerbate the effects of technology on sleep and vice versa. The goal of this theoretical review is to update the field, guide future public health messages, and to prompt new research into how much technology and sleep affect each other, for whom it may be problematic, and which mechanisms may explain their association., Ungdomars sömn, kompisar och sociala medier: En multimetodstudie

- Abstract
The LVU campaign has become a social phenomenon that engages many parents and Sweden's social services. The campaign has spread on social media and influenced people both nationally and internationally. The campaign has resulted in rumors spreading that social workers are kidnapping Muslim children without legal support. The purpose of this study is to investigate parents' perceptions of the LVU campaign, the reasons why their children were taken into care and the work of social services. Furthermore, we will examine social workers' perceptions of the LVU campaign and whether it has affected their daily work. We have chosen to conduct a qualitative study where we interviewed nine respondents, four social workers and five parents. The social workers talk about their experiences regarding the campaign and how it affected their work. They state that they need to inform clients in a clearer way and that clients have an increased concern with the campaign. The parents in the study believe that the campaign highlights injustices when it comes to the LVU legislation and that individual social workers do not work in a legally secured way. The social workers and parents who participate in the study believe that there is a lack of communication and that trust in social services has decreased.

- Abstract
The thesis is an explorative case study focusing on the hospitality in the region of Värmland in Sweden as conceived by stakeholders in the hospitality industry. The purpose of this thesis is to expand the knowledge of how AI impacts the meaning of hospitality, by mapping how stakeholders within the different parts of the touristic system perceives and uses AI development of experiences and services that combine physical and digital spaces. Previous research in connection with AI and the hospitality industry laid the foundation for the result and analysis in the thesis. Selected theory dealt with tourism, hospitality, digitalisation, technological fixes and hybrid spaces. A hospitality perspective was selected to highlight the essence of human-to-human interaction, while also including how AI can influence interaction and services in physical and digital spaces, going beyond the focus on economical promises usually taken in tourism studies of AI. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with stakeholders of the hospitality industry in Värmland. The interview guides were based on the previous research and theoretical framework, which aided the process of gathering relevant empirical data from respondents of the different stakeholder groups, thus, contributing adequate answers to the research questions. With these means it was possible to see and map the different perspectives on what effects AI has on hospitality. The conclusion shows that the hospitality industry in Värmland is gradually exploring AI, with only a few stakeholders actively involved in projects with AI. There is a significant interest due to AI's potential to improve efficiency and create new offerings, but limited financial and human resources especially for the many small businesses in the region, along with a lacking mature state of AI hinder widespread adoptions. Stakeholders believe that AI will align with tourist needs, impacting power dynamics between tourists and destinations. AI is expected

- Abstract
In a democratic world, newspapers serve the role of one of the biggest and most important contributions about knowledge of events and conflicts. This is why this thesis analyzes how Palestine-Israel conflict is framed in three major Swedish newspapers, Aftonbladet, Svenska Dagbladet and Dagens Nyheter. Using key search terms 22 editorials have been identified during the month of October 2023 and analyzed using the framing theory to identify differences in their framing. In the analysis it was found that while there were some. Conflicts have for a long time been a focal point of newspapers reporting which is why it has been studied on many occasions. Research suggests that they report on different topics with different amounts of bias, as it has been deemed impossible to completely avoid it, however, differences come in how they decide to frame and discuss these differences. The study concludes that the different newspapers do have different ways of framing the conflict, with each having a strong focus on different parts of it. However, they all share a strong anti-Hamas and anti-suffering angle, no matter the ideology of the paper.

- Abstract
The spread of disinformation in Sweden is not a new phenomenon and has long been considered a problem for the Swedish Social Services. Though in recent years, misinformation and rumours about the Social Services have increased. The main narratives revolve around the Social Services allegedly kidnapping children of foreign descent without the support of LVU (Care of Young Persons Act) and are commonly referred to as the LVU campaign. Previous research primarily focuses on the portrayal of the Social Services by traditional media, creating a knowledge gap regarding the Social Services and social media. The aim of this study is to examine and increase understanding of discourses about the Social Services among users on the social media platform Flashback. By using a thematic analysis method, we have reduced and sorted the posts found in our Flashback forum of choice. The thematic analysis method enabled the construction of different themes that appeared frequently in the forum. Subsequently, a critical discourse analysis was applied to the material to identify the discourses that emerged in the forum. The critical discourse analysis includes a three-dimensional model and several concepts used to conduct the analysis. The main findings of the study shows that discussions among users on Flashback can involve several different aspects, and users have varying perspectives on the Social Services. This means that the portrayal of the Social Services on Flashback becomes complex as both positive and negative opinions are constantly expressed, along with different problem representations. The Social Services are often described negatively, and when multiple users agree with each other, the negative image of the Social Services becomes a "truth". Positive and negative discourses are also expressed in the Flashback forum, and these are constantly in opposition to each other. In the negative discourses, there is also an expression of fear towards the Social Services and the remov

- Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze how two major online newspapers, Aftonbladet.se & Expressen.se, have framed and portrayed the actions of the environmental organization Återställ Våtmarker in their reporting. Additionally, the study also examines whether the portrayal of the organization has changed over time. A qualitative content analysis was conducted on 23 articles. The analysis was based on framing and agenda setting theory and included both text and image analysis. The results of the study showed that initially in the first half of 2022 Återställ Våtmarker was framed as a “peaceful” organization, where the conflicts and drama arose due to public reactions and actions. This however changed in the later half of 2022, Återställ Våtmarker began to be framed and portrayed as an organization who was seeking conflicts and drama. The articles and their reporting began to indicate that their primary focus was to highlight the demonstrations and actions as “annoying” and “disruptive” to the public. But also how “chaotic” scenes and “turmoil” constantly arose due to Återställ Våtmarker and their demonstrations. However, it can be argued that the reporting was a textual overdramatization as there was a clear discrepancy between the text and the images in the reporting, Thus, it can be speculated that the articles overdramatized the text to attract more readers, which in turn leads to more revenue for the newspaper.

- Abstract
The role of media in society is significant, and what the media reports influences people. The agenda-setting theory suggests that the issues covered by the media become important topics in society, and through descriptions and attributes, the media can shape public opinions. Sweden's military non-alignment ended with its membership in Nato becoming a reality in 2024. Until 2012, public opinion in Sweden strongly opposed joining Nato. However, a shift occurred, and the gap between supporters and opponents narrowed. This study, through a qualitative content analysis, examined how the editorial pages of three Swedish newspapers described Swedish Nato membership from 2008 to 2015, and how the relationship between these descriptions and public opinion evolved. The results clearly show that, over time, the editorials increasingly portrayed Swedish Nato membership positively rather than negatively. There is a correlation between these descriptions and public opinion. However, it is not possible to conclude whetherthe editorials influenced public opinion or if the reverse is true.

- Abstract
Terrorism is a global problem that has a negative effect on people’s lives all around the world. News media has a big part in how society understands terrorism and therefore it is important to examine how they report and portray terrorists. Using Sjoberg and Gentry’s Beyond Mothers, Monsters, Whores: Thinking about Women’s Violence in Global Politics this essay examines how news media portrays men and women in terrorist organisations, and if the mother-, monster-, whore narratives can be found. The method of textual analysis was adopted to analyse news articles from papers from around the world. The findings show that there is a significant difference in how female terrorists are portrayed versus male terrorists. The findings also show that writers most commonly depict female terrorists as monsters, this indicates that the monster narrative is the most common one found in news articles. This knowledge is important because it improves our understandings of why we view female terrorists the way we do.

- Abstract
This study examines the framing of Zelenskyj in Swedish news media in the lights of the 2022 rally effect. Thru qualitative text analysis on three of Sweden’s biggest newspapers the aim was to examine if the Ukrainian rally effect has had an impact on Swedish news media outlet. Furthermore, discuss the effects this might have on Swedish politics and foreign policy making. It does so by using framing theory to examine if Swedish news media have framed Zelenskyj in the same manner as the Ukrainian to see if there are discrepancies between the Ukrainian and Swedish framing. This to better understand if Swedish news frames are affected by external circumstances. The study concludes that there are some discrepancies between the Ukrainian public opinion and the Swedish news media outlet. This comes to light in the period 2020-2021 when the Ukrainian public start to lose faith in the president, the Swedish news media frame him as a successful leader that exceeds expectations. This leads to the conclusion that there is a depiction of the Ukrainian rally effect in Swedish news media outlet, but it was not as obvious as the framing before the war was in a positive manner.

- Abstract
This essay aims to explore in what way a biased reporting from the media can contribute to a weakening trust among youngsters that politicians can solve problems existing in Sweden as a growing percentage either partly or fully believes are the case. This is stated in a poll issued by the company Ungdomsbarometern AB. During the last year the percentage has risen nine percentiles to 56 % of youngsters aged 15 – 24. In an empirical study the news coverage regarding gang violence in the Swedish news distributors Aftonbladet and SVT is studied under the period September 4 – October 4. The study shows that perspectives in the news coverage that are leaning towards a descriptive an reactive manner as well as descriptions of gangs and gang members are hugely overrepresented. These angles accounts for between 50 and 67 percent of all studied publications. On the other hand perspectives that are more proactive and geared towards possible solutions or alleviations to the crisis with gang violence are very much underrepresented. These perspectives accounts for less than 20 percent of all studied publications. The results of the studies is then analyzed through the filter of the British sociologist Steven Lukes so called third dimension of power – that is power without conflict between parties and without intention, a sort of “power over thought”, maintained somehow by the continuing prevalence of the existing ongoing social order (to put it very briefly). Seen through the lens of Lukes conception of power it is then argued in the essay that it does matter how events in society are described in the media. A strongly biased media coverage of an issue in society does exercise an element of mind over thought and might, drawing on Lukes conception of power, contribute to perhaps some extent to an image among the public that the politicians doesn’t have control over the situation with gang violence and thus trust in what politicians could achieve might begin to erode.

- Abstract
There have been discussions about why men in Sweden to a greater extent vote for right-wing parties, the discussion about why women, on the other hand, vote on the left-wing parties is less often discussed. What really makes women and men vote so differently in a supposedly equal country like Sweden? This essay is a quantitative study where the aim is to contribute to increased understanding of the different voting preferences. The data used in the essay comes from the SOM institute from the University of Gothenburg. Previous research has shown that a shift took place around the 60s and onwards, women then started getting an education and jobs that did not only involve the home and family. With this, women began to vote more on the left-wing parties. Regression analysis and factor analysis have been carried out to find connections between how different perceptions of violence and socio-economic factors influence whether one votes left or right. The theoretical frameworks for this essay are the silent revolution, GAL-TAN and ethics of care. The results show that there are differences between women's and men's political preferences, where women are more to the left and men more to the right on the political left-right scale. The cultural factor ethics of care is connected to the aspect that social vulnerability is considered to be a contributing factor to the violence in society, and is the factor that most affects the gender gap in political preferences. The impact that structural factors have on political preferences is consistent with previous research. Finally, we have discussed limitations and recommendations for future research.

- Abstract
This study explores the relationship between media coverage and humanitarian funding in the context of three crises: drought in Kenya in 2023, the 2023 refugee crisis in its neighboring country, South Sudan, and the 2023 earthquake in Syria. It delves into the ways in which media representations of humanitarian crises influence the allocation of financial resources for relief efforts. My goal is that the findings of this research contribute to the field of Communication for Development by finding out if, and also offering insights into how media can be strategically utilized to garner support for humanitarian causes, as well as demonstrating that other factors, other than the media, may have potential implications when it comes to the prioritization of aid efforts. My key research question is, “How does media coverage affect humanitarian funding?” And the sub-question: “Apart from professional journalists and media organizations, are there other factors influencing donors on who gets their funding?” The study is carried out under the framework of “the CNN Effect” theory. There is a lot of past research both validating and challenging this theory. At the end of this study, we find ourselves in the middle – on one side validating the theory and agreeing that it plays a role in shaping humanitarian funding, and on the other side challenging it because there are other critical factors considered by donors when allocating funds for humanitarian crises. The three case studies that we look at: the Kenya Drought Response Plan 2023, the South Sudan Regional Refugee Response Plan 2023, and the Syria Earthquake Flash Appeal 2023 are diverse both in terms of context – two of them in Eastern Africa and one in the Middle East; nature – two of them are classified by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) as flash appeals while the other is classified as a regional response plan; and the duration under which they ran. We look at the circumstan

- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to compare and investigate how three nationwide sports media report on the same Allsvenskan football matches through push notifications, headlines and pull downs. In the study, the analyzed media included Sportbladet, Expressen and SVT Sport. By comparing and analyzing the media coverage of these pseudo events, the study aims to identify differences in news aspects, tonality and use of visual elements. The study further attempts to illustrate how different media convey and shape football news to their readers and how this can affect the interpretation and perception of events in Swedish football. We examined 69 headlines and 69 pull downs in total – 24 each from Expressen and Sportbladet and 21 from SVT Sport. 72 push notifications in total were also examined – 33 from Sportbladet, 31 from Expressen and eight from SVT Sport. The study has been made with a qualitative and quantitative content analysis where the authors have been working with separate analyses with push notifications on one hand, and headlines and pull downs on the other hand. The qualitative analysis (critical discourse analysis) consisted of four different themes to cover the result. The quantitative analysis was made by six diagrams – all to shed light on the actual result. The theoretical framework is based on theories of framing, pseudo events and news evaluation, combined with previous research on headlines and push notifications, the medialization of elite sports, the commercialization of journalism, the meaning of Swedish sports journalism and the reporting on Allsvenskan. The study’s result shows that there are both differences and similarities in their strategy when it comes to headlines, pull downs and push notifications. The biggest difference, however, is between the commercial media (Sportbladet and Expressen) and publicly funded SVT Sport. The commercial media is more keen on using sensational language and often hides information in the headlines. They als
