Within this study, single-cable propagation facilitated by PV strings’ wiring characteristics is considered for an adapted design of PLC electronics. We propose to close the communications signal path, resulting in a ring topology where a resonance condition could be implemented. A PLC topology using the resulting circular closed-loop path of a PV series string as its physical communication support is designed and leveraged for practical use. When the path length or the number of transceivers is changed, the resonance properties that come with the circular path as the physical support are affected but are shown to be preserved with the application of automatic adjustable tuning. This automatic tuning guarantees that the resonance improves propagation parameters and reverts the system to its optimal values at the chosen carrier frequency.

That's what Wilder Research and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis set out to learn in a national study for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and AcademyHealth. We examined the relationship between population health and economic activity in U.S. metropolitan areas through an analysis of data spanning 15 years. The results suggest that population health really does contribute meaningfully to a community's economic strength, and that good community health helps protects against economic shocks, like the Great Recession.

Het onderzoek in dit proefschrift is ontworpen om de werking van sommige systemische geneesmiddelen te ontcijferen en een aantal andere risicofactoren van open-kamerhoek glaucoom (OKG) te onderzoeken. De studies gepresenteerd in de eerste drie hoofdstukken zijn gebaseerd op het Erasmus Rotterdam Gezondheids Onderzoek (ERGO/ Rotterdamstudie), een prospectief populatie-gebaseerde cohort studie van ouderdomgerelateerde aandoeningen. Onze studie populatie bestaat uit 3939 van de oorspronkelijke 7983 deelnemers van 55 jaar en ouder uit het Rotterdamse onderzoek. In hoofdstuk een hebben we onderzocht of het gebruik van cholesterol- verlagende geneesmiddelen geassocieerd is met een verlaagd risico op (OKG). We hebben de relatie tussen het gebruik van corticosteroïden en incident OKG onderzocht in hoofdstuk twee. In hoofdstuk 3 is onderzocht of antitrombotica het risico van OKG kan verminderen. Het centrale thema van de hoofdstukken 4, 5 en 6 is het gebruik van statistische methodologie, systematische review en meta-analyse om andere risicofactoren van OKG te verhelderen. Hoofdstuk 4 beschrijft de risico's die samenhangen met visuele veldprogressie in OKG door het vergelijken van verschillende statistische benaderingen in de Groningen Longitudinal Glaucoma Study (GLGS), een prospectieve cohort studie in een klinische setting. Hoofdstuk 5 presenteert in een systematische review en meta-analyse de relatie tussen bijziendheid en OKG. Hoofdstuk 6 biedt een overzicht van de huidige stand van kennis van het effect van systemische geneesmiddelen op OKG.

Parametric modelling is gaining in popularity as both a fabrication and design tool, but its application in the architectural design industry has not been widely explored. This form of modelling has the ability to generate complex forms with intuitively reactive components, allowing designers to express and to address the increasing need for seamless and bi-directional connectivity between the design, modelling and fabrication ambit. Despite its benefits, the process of parametric modelling can be lengthy and complex, without the level of intuitive programming required to make it a viable technique for use in architectural design. The ability to design small repeatable components and apply them to a larger governing surface geometry is one area of parametric modelling that has great design potential. This two level modelling control, of component and overall surface, can allow designers to explore new types of form generation subject parametric constraints. This process, coupled with Rapid Manufacturing (RM) and Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines has the potential to significantly reduce the interface between design and fabrication.

ZSB12017-SJAUX, Edge lane roads (ELRs), also known as advisory bike lanes or advisory shoulders, are a type of shared street where two-way motor vehicle (MV) traffic shares a single center lane, and edge lanes on either side are preferentially reserved for vulnerable road users (VRUs). This work comprises a literature review, an investigation of ELRs’ operational characteristics and potential road user interactions via simulation, and a study of crash data from existing American and Australian ELRs. The simulation evaluated the impact of various factors (e.g., speed, volume, directional split, etc.) on ELR operation. Results lay the foundation for a siting criterion. Current American siting guidance relies only upon daily traffic volume and speed—an approach that inaccurately models an ELR’s safety. To evaluate the safety of existing ELRs, crash data were collected from ELR installations in the US and Australia. For US installations, Empirical Bayes (EB) analysis resulted in an aggregate CMF of .56 for 11 installations observed over 8 years while serving more than 60 million vehicle trips. The data from the Australian State of Queensland involved rural one-lane, low-volume, higher-speed roads, functionally equivalent to ELRs. As motor vehicle volume grows, these roads are widened to two-lane facilities. While the authors observed low mean crash rates on the one-lane roads, analysis of recently converted (from one-lane to two-lane) facilities showed that several experienced fewer crashes than expected after conversion to two-lane roads.
