This paper introduces a media service model that exploits artificial intelligence (AI) video generators at the receive end. This proposal deviates from the traditional multimedia ecosystem, completely relying on in-house production, by shifting part of the content creation onto the receiver. We bring a semantic process into the framework, allowing the distribution network to provide service elements that prompt the content generator, rather than distributing encoded data of fully finished programs. The service elements include fine-tailored text descriptions, lightweight image data of some objects, or application programming interfaces, comprehensively referred to as semantic sources, and the user terminal translates the received semantic data into video frames. Empowered by the random nature of generative AI, the users could then experience super-personalized services accordingly. The proposed idea incorporates the situations in which the user receives different service providers' element packages; a sequence of packages over time, or multiple packages at the same time. Given promised in-context coherence and content integrity, the combinatory dynamics will amplify the service diversity, allowing the users to always chance upon new experiences. This work particularly aims at short-form videos and advertisements, which the users would easily feel fatigued by seeing the same frame sequence every time. In those use cases, the content provider's role will be recast as scripting semantic sources, transformed from a thorough producer. However, some coverage areas in SFN can be affected by destructive interferences. In order to reduce these situations, distributed multiple-input single-output (MISO) schemes have been adopted in the new digital terrestrial television standards, Alamouti in DVB-T2 and transmit diversity code filter sets in ATSC 3.0. On the other hand, layered division multiplexing (LDM), a non-orthogonal multiple access technology, has been adopted in ATSC 3.0 due to its spectral efficiency increase compared to time or frequency division multiplexing. The LDM signal is formed by a power superposition of two independent signals, which are designed for different reception conditions (mobile and fixed-rooftop). The combination of distributed MISO and LDM techniques has not been evaluated yet. In this paper, the joint transmission of LDM with distributed MISO is analyzed in terms of complexity and the joint performance is evaluated by means of physical layer simulations.

[EN] The next-generation U.S. digital terrestrial television (DTT) standard ATSC 3.0 is the most flexible DTT standard ever developed, outperforming the state-of-the-art digital video broadcasting-terrestrial 2nd generation (DVB-T2) standard. This higher flexibility allows broadcasters to select the configuration that better suits the coverage and capacity requirements per service. Regarding the selection of pilot patterns, whereas DVB-T2 provides eight different patterns with a unique pilot amplitude, ATSC 3.0 expands up to 16, with five different amplitudes per pattern. This paper focuses on the pilot pattern and amplitude performance and optimization for time and power multiplexing modes, time division multiplexing and layered division multiplexing (LDM), respectively, of ATSC 3.0. The selection of the optimum pilot configuration is not straightforward. On the one hand, the pilots must be sufficiently dense to follow channel fluctuations. On the other hand, as long as pilot density is increased, more data overhead is introduced. Moreover, this selection is particularly essential in LDM mode, because the LDM implementation in ATSC 3.0 requires that both layers share all the waveform parameters, including pilot pattern configuration. In addition, there is an error proportional to the channel estimate of the top layer that affects to the lower layer performance.

This paper investigates the potential use cases, implementation aspects, and performance advantages, for combining LDM with CB and also with the multi-RF channel technology time frequency slicing (TFS) introduced in digital video broadcasting - terrestrial second generation (DVB-T2) (as an informative annex) and digital video broadcasting - next generation handheld (DVB-NGH) which allows distributing the data of a service across two or more RF channels by means of time slicing and frequency hopping.

[EN] Two of the main drawbacks of the current broadcasting services are, on the one hand, the lack of flexibility to adapt to the new generation systems requirements, and on the other hand, the incapability of taking a piece of the current mobile services market. In this paper, Layered Division Multiplexing (LDM), which grew out of the concept of Cloud Txn, is presented as a very promising technique for answering those challenges and enhancing the capacity of broadcasting systems. The major contribution of this work is to present the first comprehensive study of the LDM performance behavior. In particular, in this paper, the theoretical considerations of the LDM implementation are completed with the first computer based simulations and laboratory tests, covering a wide range of stationary channels and the mobile TU-6 channel. The results will support LDM as a strong candidate for multiplexing different services in the next generation broadcasting systems, increasing both flexibility and performance.

[EN] Cloud Transmission (Cloud Txn) System is a flexible multi-layer system that uses spectrum overlay technology to simultaneously deliver multiple program streams with different characteristics and robustness for different services (mobile TV, HDTV and UHDTV) in one RF channel. The transmitted signal is formed by superimposing a number of independent signals at desired power levels, to form a multilayered signal. The signals of different layers can have different coding, bit rate, and robustness. For the top layer, system parameters are chosen to provide very robust transmission that can be used for high speed mobile broadcasting service to portable devices. The bit rate is traded for more powerful error correction coding and robustness so that the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) threshold at the receiver is a negative value in the range of -2 to -3 dB. The top layer is designed to withstand combined noise, co-channel interference and multipath distortion power levels higher than the desired signal power. The lowerlayer signal can be DVB-T2 signal or other newly designed system to deliver HDTV/UHDTV to fixed receivers. The system concept is open to technological advances that might come in the future: all new technologies, BICM/Non Uuniform-QAM, rotated constellations, Time Frequency Slicing or MIMO techniques can be implemented in the Cloud Txn lower (high data) rate layer. The main focus of this paper is to thoroughly describe the performance of this newly presented Cloud Transmission broadcasting system.
