- Abstract
Decentralised supply chain systems have become more widely used to meet the modern supply chain systems, which also offer better transparency, trust, and efficiency. This thesis explored four main challenges associated with traditional supply chain systems, including identity management, service discovery, deal management, and contract execution. The research attempts to overcome these challenges by designing a framework, and this thesis is focused on the first two challenges including identity management and service discovery in decentralised supply chains. Later challenges would be resolved in the future research. Moreover, by employing W3C Decentralised Identifier (DID), this framework fulfils varied business and technical needs for supply chain identity management with transparent sharing and connecting rich attributes. In the framework, blockchain is also utilized to register DIDs in a graphic-database-based service repository system, which can organise DIDs in a way that resembles a graph, making service discovery more efficient. Besides, this framework is further validated with the implementation of an Ethereum-based prototype as a proof of concept to demonstrate its feasibility. Overall, this research brings cutting-edge technologies together with practical applications to provide a step toward revolutionising decentralised supply chains.
