Autonomous driving systems are a rapidly evolving technology. Trajectory prediction is a critical component of autonomous driving systems that enables safe navigation by anticipating the movement of surrounding objects. Lidar point-cloud data provide a 3D view of solid objects surrounding the ego-vehicle. Hence, trajectory prediction using Lidar point-cloud data performs better than 2D RGB cameras due to providing the distance between the target object and the ego-vehicle. However, processing point-cloud data is a costly and complicated process, and state-of-the-art 3D trajectory predictions using point-cloud data suffer from slow and erroneous predictions. State-of-the-art trajectory prediction approaches suffer from handcrafted and inefficient architectures, which can lead to low accuracy and suboptimal inference times. Neural architecture search (NAS) is a method proposed to optimize neural network models by using search algorithms to redesign architectures based on their performance and runtime. This paper introduces TrajectoryNAS, a novel neural architecture search (NAS) method designed to develop an efficient and more accurate LiDAR-based trajectory prediction model for predicting the trajectories of objects surrounding the ego vehicle. TrajectoryNAS systematically optimizes the architecture of an end-to-end trajectory prediction algorithm, incorporating all stacked components that are prerequisites for trajectory prediction, including object detection and object tracking, using metaheuristic algorithms. This approach addresses the neural architecture designs in each component of trajectory prediction, considering accuracy loss and the associated overhead latency. Detecting lane markings in road scenes poses a significant challenge due to their intricate nature, which is susceptible to unfavorable conditions. While lane markings have strong shape priors, their visibility is easily compromised by varying lighting conditions, adverse weather, occlusions by other vehicles or pedestrians, road plane changes, and fading of colors over time. The detection process is further complicated by the presence of several lane shapes and natural variations, necessitating large amounts of high-quality and diverse data to train a robust lane detection model capable of handling various real-world scenarios. In this paper, we present a novel self-supervised learning method termed Contrastive Learning for Lane Detection via Cross-Similarity (CLLD) to enhance the resilience and effectiveness of lane detection models in real-world scenarios, particularly when the visibility of lane markings are compromised. CLLD introduces a novel contrastive learning (CL) method that assesses the similarity of local features within the global context of the input image. It uses the surrounding information to predict lane markings. This is achieved by integrating local feature contrastive learning with our newly proposed operation, dubbed cross-similarity. The local feature CL concentrates on extracting features from small patches, a necessity for accurately localizing lane segments. Meanwhile, cross-similarity captures global features, enabling the detection of obscured lane segments based on their surroundings. We enhance cross-similarity by randomly masking portions of input images in the process of augmentation. Extensive experiments on TuSimple and CuLane benchmark datasets demonstrate that CLLD consistently outperforms state-of-the-art contrastive learning methods, particularly in visibility-impairing conditions like shadows, while it also delivers comparable results under normal conditions. Trajectory prediction is a critical component of autonomous driving systems, enabling cars to anticipate the movements of surrounding objects for safe navigation. Trajectory prediction using Lidar point-cloud data performs better than 2D images due to providing 3D information. However, processing point-cloud data is more complicated and time-consuming than 2D images. Hence, state-of-the-art 3D trajectory predictions using point-cloud data suffer from slow and erroneous predictions. This paper introduces TrajectoryNAS, a pioneering method that focuses on utilizing point cloud data for trajectory prediction. By leveraging Neural Architecture Search (NAS), TrajectoryNAS automates the design of trajectory prediction models, encompassing object detection, tracking, and forecasting in a cohesive manner. This approach not only addresses the complex interdependencies among these tasks but also emphasizes the importance of accuracy and efficiency in trajectory modeling. Through empirical studies, TrajectoryNAS demonstrates its effectiveness in enhancing the performance of autonomous driving systems, marking a significant advancement in the field.Experimental results reveal that TrajcetoryNAS yield a minimum of 4.8 higger accuracy and 1.1* lower latency over competing methods on the NuScenes dataset.

Real-world applications that are safety-critical and resource-constrained necessitate using compact and robust Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) against adversarial data perturbation. MobileNet-tiny has been introduced as a compact DNN to deploy on edge devices to reduce the size of networks. To make DNNs more robust against adversarial data, adversarial training methods have been proposed. However, recent research has investigated the robustness of large-scale DNNs (such as WideResNet), but the robustness of tiny DNNs has not been analysed. In this paper, we analyse how the width of the blocks in MobileNet-tiny affects the robustness of the network against adversarial data perturbation. Specifically, we evaluate natural accuracy, robust accuracy, and perturbation instability metrics on the MobileNet-tiny with various inverted bottleneck blocks with different configurations. We generate configurations for inverted bottleneck blocks using different width-multipliers and expand-ratio hyper-parameters. We discover that expanding the width of the blocks in MobileNet-tiny can improve the natural and robust accuracy but increases perturbation instability. In addition, after a certain threshold, increasing the width of the network does not have significant gains in robust accuracy and increases perturbation instability. We also analyse the relationship between the width-multipliers and expand-ratio hyper-parameters with the Lipchitz constant, both theoretically and empirically. It shows that wider inverted bottleneck blocks tend to have significant perturbation instability. These architectural insights can be useful in developing adversarially robust tiny DNNs for edge devices.

Detecting road lanes is challenging due to intricate markings vulnerable to unfavorable conditions. Lane markings have strong shape priors, but their visibility is easily compromised. Factors like lighting, weather, vehicles, pedestrians, and aging colors challenge the detection. A large amount of data is required to train a lane detection approach that can withstand natural variations caused by low visibility. This is because there are numerous lane shapes and natural variations that exist. Our solution, Contrastive Learning for Lane Detection via cross-similarity (CLLD), is a self-supervised learning method that tackles this challenge by enhancing lane detection models resilience to real-world conditions that cause lane low visibility. CLLD is a novel multitask contrastive learning that trains lane detection approaches to detect lane markings even in low visible situations by integrating local feature contrastive learning (CL) with our new proposed operation cross-similarity. Local feature CL focuses on extracting features for small image parts, which is necessary to localize lane segments, while cross-similarity captures global features to detect obscured lane segments using their surrounding. We enhance cross-similarity by randomly masking parts of input images for augmentation. Evaluated on benchmark datasets, CLLD outperforms state-of-the-art contrastive learning, especially in visibility-impairing conditions like shadows. Lane detection is one of the most fundamental tasks for autonomous driving. It plays a crucial role in the lateral control and the precise localization of autonomous vehicles. Monocular 3D lane detection methods provide state-of-the-art results for estimating the position of lanes in 3D world coordinates using only the information obtained from the front-view camera. Recent advances in Neural Architecture Search (NAS) facilitate automated optimization of various computer vision tasks. NAS can automatically optimize monocular 3D lane detection methods to enhance the extraction and combination of visual features, consequently reducing computation loads and increasing accuracy. This paper proposes 3DLaneNAS, a multi-objective method that enhances the accuracy of monocular 3D lane detection for both short- and long-distance scenarios while at the same time providing a fair amount of hardware acceleration. 3DLaneNAS utilizes a new multi-objective energy function to optimize the architecture of feature extraction and feature fusion modules simultaneously. Moreover, a transfer learning mechanism is used to improve the convergence of the search process. Experimental results reveal that 3DLaneNAS yields a minimum of 5.2% higher accuracy and ≈ 1.33 × lower latency over competing methods on the synthetic-3D-lanes dataset. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) provide the best accuracy for disparity estimation. However, CNNs are computationally expensive, making them unfavorable for resource-limited devices with real-time constraints. Recent advances in neural architectures search (NAS) promise opportunities in automated optimization for disparity estimation. However, the main challenge of the NAS methods is the significant amount of computing time to explore a vast search space [e.g., 1.6x10(29)] and costly training candidates. To reduce the NAS computational demand, many proxy-based NAS methods have been proposed. Despite their success, most of them are designed for comparatively small-scale learning tasks. In this article, we propose a fast NAS method, called FastStereoNet, to enable resource-aware NAS within an intractably large search space. FastStereoNet automatically searches for hardware-friendly CNN architectures based on late acceptance hill climbing (LAHC), followed by simulated annealing (SA). FastStereoNet also employs a fine-tuning with a transferred weights mechanism to improve the convergence of the search process. The collection of these ideas provides competitive results in terms of search time and strikes a balance between accuracy and efficiency. Compared to the state of the art, FastStereoNet provides 5.25x reduction in search time and 44.4x reduction in model size. These benefits are attained while yielding a comparable accuracy that enables seamless deployment of disparity estimation on resource-limited devices. Finally, FastStereoNet significantly improves the perception quality of disparity estimation deployed on field-programmable gate array and Intel Neural Compute Stick 2 accelerator in a significantly less onerous manner.

Stereo vision cameras are flexible sensors due to providing heterogeneous information such as color, luminance, disparity map (depth), and shape of the objects. Today, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) present the highest accuracy for the disparity map estimation [1]. However, CNNs require considerable computing capacity to process billions of floating-point operations in a real-time fashion. Besides, commercial stereo cameras produce huge size images (e.g., 10 Megapixels [2]), which impose a new computational cost to the system. The problem will be pronounced if we target resource-limited hardware for the implementation. In this paper, we propose DenseDisp, an automatic framework that designs a Siamese neural architecture for disparity map estimation in a reasonable time. DenseDisp leverages a meta-heuristic multi-objective exploration to discover hardware-friendly architectures by considering accuracy and network FLOPS as the optimization objectives. We explore the design space with four different fitness functions to improve the accuracy-FLOPS trade-off and convergency time of the DenseDisp. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) suffer from energy-hungry implementation due to their computation and memory intensive processing patterns. This problem is even more significant by the proliferation of CNNs on embedded platforms. To overcome this problem, we offer NeuroPower as an automatic framework that designs a highly optimized and energy efficient set of CNN architectures for embedded systems. NeuroPower explores and prunes the design space to find improved set of neural architectures. Toward this aim, a multi-objective optimization strategy is integrated to solve Neural Architecture Search (NAS) problem by near-optimal tuning network hyperparameters. The main objectives of the optimization algorithm are network accuracy and number of parameters in the network. The evaluation results show the effectiveness of NeuroPower on energy consumption, compacting rate and inference time compared to other cutting-edge approaches. In comparison with the best results on CIFAR-10/CIFAR-100 datasets, a generated network by NeuroPower presents up to 2.1x/1.56x compression rate, 1.59x/3.46x speedup and 1.52x/1.82x power saving while loses 2.4%/-0.6% accuracy, respectively., DPAC - Dependable Platforms for Autonomous systems and Control, DeepMaker: Deep Learning Accelerator on Commercial Programmable Devices
