Termín brownfields je mezinárodní výraz, který nepotřebuje český ekvivalent. Neexistuje sjednocená definice tohoto výrazu, ale nejčastěji jsou jím označovány objekty s deprimujícími prvky. Jedná se o objekty uvnitř urbanizovaného území či ve volné krajině, které ztratily původní funkci a své okolí ekonomicky a fyzicky zatěžují. Ve své práci se nejprve budu věnovat teoretickým východiskům a podrobnější charakteristikou brownfields. Dále se zabývám historií a současným stavem areálu bývalých jatek a další kapitola je věnována analýze dotazníkového šetření mezi respondenty Ostravy.
