The numerous studies of risk perception to date have been focused on three different areas of the subject. Firstly, researchers have aimed at the identification of risk perception determinants, secondly, they have created recommendations on how to communicate the risk to society, and finally they have analysed the relationships between risk perception measures and the means of risk control implemented in organizations. The last indicated research area is complemented by the following paper. On the basis of data derived from online interviews it was concluded that the higher the assessment of the measures of environmental insurance risk perception, the more frequently organizations implemented selected means of risk control in the environmental management system according to ISO 14001 (EMS ISO 14001). The largest number of statistically significant dependencies were observed in the area of variables which describe the informative potential of EMS ISO 14001 (informative potential variables) and those which directly determine the volume of environmental insurance risk (the volume of risk variables). Simultaneously, not all categories of risk perception measures are equally related to the frequency of risk control means implementation. Najwięcej istotnych statystycznie zależności zidentyfikowano pomiędzy zmiennymi opisującymi mierniki percepcji a zmiennymi dotyczącymi potencjału informacyjnego SZŚ (zmienne potencjału informacyjnego) oraz tymi, które bezpośrednio determinują wielkość ryzyka (zmienne wielkości ryzyka). Jednocześnie nie wszystkie kategorie mierników oceny percepcji ryzyka są w jednakowym stopniu powiązane z częstością wdrożenia działań kontrolnych ryzyka. Najwięcej istotnych statystycznie zależności zidentyfikowano dla zmiennej Subiektywna ocena prawdopodobieństwa realizacji szkody w środowisku lub innego negatywnego wpływu na środowisko.

This article examines the use of foreign direct liability suits, including the ones currently in the Dutch court system by Nigerian plaintiffs against Shell Petroleum, to protect environmental and economic interests in oil-producing communities. The paper suggests that while these suits are a valuable tool in advancing the cause of a clean environment, they fall short in accomplishing the goal. Additional tools, such as an international insurance scheme, may need to be introduced to create a more effective framework.

The incorporation of the environmental paradigm as a basis for achieving sustainable development has driven the need to progress on the implementation of economic instruments promoting adequate environmental protection. In this context, environmental insurance have gradually developed as instruments for internalization of environmental costs, as well as being a guarantee to the recomposition of environmental damages. In the case of Argentina, despite of having been established as a compulsory instrument, the insurance regulation has drawbacks that make it ineffective for meeting environmental objectives. This research develops an analysis of environmental insurance, in order to develop proposals for a better implementation of the insurance scheme., La incorporación del paradigma ambiental, como base para el logro de un desarrollo sustentable, ha impulsado la necesidad de avanzar en la implementación de instrumentos económicos que fomenten una adecuada protección al medio ambiente. En este marco, los seguros ambientales se han desarrollado paulatinamente como instrumentos de internalización del coste ambiental al mismo tiempo que suponen una garantía a la recomposición de daños al entorno. En el caso de Argentina, pese a haber sido establecido con carácter obligatorio, su regulación presenta inconvenientes que lo vuelven ineficaz para el cumplimiento de los objetivos ambientales. La presente investigación desarrolla un análisis del seguro ambiental, con el objeto de elaborar propuestas tendientes a una mejor instrumentación del régimen asegurador., L'incorporation du paradigme de l'environnement en tant que base pour la réalisation du développement durable, a entraîné la nécessité de progresser dans la mise en oeuvre des instruments économiques favorisant la protection de l'environnement adéquat. Dans ce contexte, l'assurance de l'environnement ont progressivement développé comme instruments d'internalisation des coûts environnementaux en même temps sont une garantie pour la recomposition des dommages à l'environnement. Dans le cas de l'Argentine, bien qu'il ait été établi avec la réglementation obligatoire, il présente des inconvénients qui le rendent inefficace pour atteindre les objectifs environnementaux. Cette recherche développe une analyse de l'assurance de l'environnement, afin d'élaborer des propositions pour une meilleure mise en oeuvre du régime d'assurance.
