Abstract

Agriculture forms the backbone of Pakistan’s economy. Despite the fact that the share of agriculture in the GDP has declined over the years, the sector continues to play an important role in the socio-economic structure of the country. About 60 percent of the population lives in rural areas of Pakistan, the majority of which is dependent on agricultural activities for their livelihood. Yield growth for most crops and livestock products in Pakistan has stagnated and become more variable in recent years. Furthermore, sizable gaps persist between achievable and realized productivity in most crops, and diversification and a move to higher value-added agricultural commodities has been limited, predominantly in the crops sector.

Abstract

Traffic accidents constitute a serious cause of death and injuries in the entire world. They are also considered as a major cause of financial and physical losses. This causes traffic accidents to have considerable threats and negative impacts on the entire society. In the past few years, a large growth in the mobility of vehicles in Jordan has contributed to an increase in traffic congestion as well as in the number of traffic accidents. Although previous studies have indicated that risky behavioral characteristics of drivers is the main reason behind traffic accidents in Jordan, the number and severity of accidents can be mitigated and road safety can be improved through better design and engineering of road systems. This study aims at investigating and analyzing traffic areas in the Governorate of Madaba in Jordan that can be considered as having low level of safety and so causing major negative impact on people’s health and emotions. Data that shows severity, location and number of people and vehicles involved in each traffic accident in Madaba Governorate for the period from 2011 until 2013 was collected from the databases of the Pubic Security Department (PSD) in Jordan and analyzed. Since the identification of accident location is a critical element in accidents’ analysis, accidents were located on road maps. Sites with large number of accidents were precisely investigated and studied in terms of the severity of accidents, the expected economic loss and the problems causing the accidents in these sites. This study will produce a number of practical solutions aim at improving the traffic safety and reducing the frequency and severity of traffic accidents and the associated economic and social costs in the governorate. This research will constitute a model for further studies that can be conducted in other areas in Jordan and in the world.

6. Internal Occipital Crest Misalignment with Internal Occipital Protuberance: A Case Report of Posterior Cranial Fossa Anatomic Variations

Abstract

During gross anatomy head and neck laboratory session, one dissection group observed an abnormal anatomic variation in the posterior cranial fossa of a 94-year-old male cadaver. The internal occipital crest was not aligned with internal occipital protuberance and groove for superior sagittal sinus. It seemed that the internal occipital protuberance was shifted significantly to the right side. As a result the skull was overly stretched in order to connect with the internal occipital ridge. These internal skull variations of occipital bone landmarks can influence the location of adjacent dural venous sinuses and possibly influence cerebrospinal fluid flow. Similar anatomical anomalies have been attributed to presence of hydrocephalus and abnormalities in cisterna magna.

Abstract

L'utilisation de Matériaux à Changements de Phase (MCP) dans le bâtiment permet d'augmenter l'inertie thermique tout en gardant de faibles épaisseurs de parois. Le couplage avec un super-isolant permet d'augmenter encore cette inertie en limitant considérablement les pertes thermiques. Dans ce travail, on teste le comportement thermique d'une cellule ayant des parois associant MCP et VIP en la comparant à une cellule ayant des parois ne comportant pas de MCP. Les résultats obtenus démontrent la validité du concept. Une simulation numérique permet de prévoir le comportement de ces cellules dans un environnement climatique réel.
