The Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) is a widely used measure in developmental science that assesses adults’ current states of mind regarding early attachment-related experiences with their primary caregivers. The standard system for coding the AAI recommends classifying individuals categorically as having an autonomous, dismissing, preoccupied, or unresolved attachment state of mind. However, previous factor and taxometric analyses suggest that: (a) adults’ attachment states of mind are captured by two weakly correlated factors reflecting adults’ dismissing and preoccupied states of mind and (b) individual differences on these factors are continuously rather than categorically distributed. The current study revisited these suggestions about the latent structure of AAI scales by leveraging individual participant data from 40 studies (N = 3,218), with a particular focus on the controversial observation from prior factor analytic work that indicators of preoccupied states of mind and indicators of unresolved states of mind about loss and trauma loaded on a common factor. Confirmatory factor analyses indicated that: (a) a 2-factor model with weakly correlated dismissing and preoccupied factors and (b) a 3-factor model that further distinguished unresolved from preoccupied states of mind were both compatible with the data. The preoccupied and unresolved factors in the 3-factor model were highly correlated. Taxometric analyses suggested that individual differences in dismissing, preoccupied, and unresolved states of mind were more consistent with a continuous than a categorical model. The importance of additional tests of predictive validity of the various models is emphasized.

Rationale The present scoping review seeks to gain insight into what is known regarding the transition of treatment responsibility, specifically for individuals with haemophilia. A focus will be placed on the barriers and facilitators experienced towards the treatment transition process for families and young people engaged in prophylaxis therapy. A scoping review affords an opportunity to map out and provide an overview of the emerging literature given the newly emerging enquiry into treatment transition in haemophilia.Objective The current scoping review will aim to address the following research question: “What barriers and facilitators are experienced by young people, caregivers and healthcare professionals towards treatment transition in haemophilia?”The subsequent objectives were identified to address the research question: • To provide a detailed representation of the range of available literature for barriers and facilitators experienced by the array of actors involved, towards treatment transition and successful self-management in haemophilia. • To visually map the existing evidence (in diagrammatic form) in alignment with the objective of the review.• To consider clear recommendations for future directions of research based on the identified knowledge gaps. Recommendations will ultimately seek to support optimal transition from family-orientated to self-management, and paediatric to adult services. Method: Articles published in peer-reviewed journals are eligible for inclusion. Both primary research studies and secondary data analysis will be accepted. No restrictions are placed upon study design. Articles which explored treatment transition independently or alongside other related concepts such as quality of life, self-care and treatment adherence will be eligible. The current review aims to include articles sampling children and/or adults with haemophilia, their caregivers and/or healthcare professionals involved in haemophilia care. Articles sampling individuals living with haemophilia can have a diagnosis of haemophilia A or B. Articles can define “treatment” as regular prophylaxis therapy or on-demand administration following a bleeding episode. Information Sources The following four databases will be searched: •Medline•Scopus•PsycINFO •CINAHLAt this stage, no date or language restrictions have been implemented in the electronic searches for studies to allow an accurate estimate of the variety of literature available. Additionally, no exclusions regarding the publication status have been applied. Parents' attachment representations and child-parent attachment have been shown to be associated, but these associations vary across populations (Verhage et al., 2016). The current study examined whether ecological factors may explain variability in the strength of intergenerational transmission of attachment, using individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis. Analyses on 4,396 parent-child dyads (58 studies, child age 11-96 months) revealed a combined effect size of r = .29. IPD meta-analyses revealed that effect sizes for the transmission of autonomous-secure representations to secure attachments were weaker under risk conditions and weaker in adolescent parent-child dyads, whereas transmission was stronger for older children. Findings support the ecological constraints hypothesis on attachment transmission. Implications for attachment theory and the use of IPD meta-analysis are discussed.

In a longitudinal study of attachment, children (N = 147) aged 50 and 61 months heard their mother and a stranger make conflicting claims. In 2 tasks, the available perceptual cues were equally consistent with either person’s claim but children generally accepted the mother’s claims over those of the stranger. In a 3rd task, the perceptual cues favored the stranger’s claims, and children generally accepted her claims over those of the mother. However, children’s pattern of responding varied by attachment status. The strategy of relying on the mother or the stranger, depending on the available perceptual cues, was especially evident among secure children. Insecure-avoidant children displayed less reliance on their mother’s claims, irrespective of the available cues, whereas insecure-resistant children displayed more.
