The Ballets Russes piece Liturgie (1915) was rife with radical conceptions of dance, costume design and the aesthetics of performance. But Liturgie never existed in any other than an unfinished, fragmentary form; a concept of a ballet that never came to a premiere. The aesthetic use of religious imagery in Natalia Gončarova’s designs and the gesture-based movement material for Liturgie brought out the transformative potential of performance, but were, ultimately, impossible to become a reality on stage. In the article we use the notion of liminality to scrutinize the complex relation between the sketches and the outline of the choreography as well as the relation between the artistic and religious modes.

Julia Kristeva is Europe’s best-known living humanist thinker, born in Bulgaria in 1941 and residing in Paris since 1965. She is a feminist, psychoanalyst and literary theorist. In the spring of 2018, she was accused of having served as an agent for the Bulgarian security service during her first years in Paris. A special state commission in Bulgaria, with the task of investigating citizens’ connections to the security service during the Communist era, has published her file, which is over four hundred pages long. This article examines this file in order illustrate some of the ways in which East Bloc security services operated during the Communist era. The article also aims to show how the Bulgarian security police of the time portrays Kristeva’s Bulgarian background and her intellectual work. I argue that this file can be seen as a special form of literary creation, applying in my analysis the term coined by the American scholar Cristina Vatulescu, “police aesthetics”.

The sensitivity of a 26 member ensemble of process based wheat simulation models to perturbations in baseline temperature and precipitation was examined to construct impact response surfaces (IRS) of simulated yields.

An open source simulator for a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) based onboard navigation of satellites is presented. The structure and building blocks of the simulator, as well as the data sets included with the simulator, are described. To illustrate the application of the simulator, it is used to evaluate the navigation performance that can be expected by a GNSS-receiver based navigation system on board a satellite in a geotransfer orbit. Three phases of the geotransfer orbit are analyzed, first an early orbit phase where the satellite has a highly eccentric orbit, secondly an intermediate orbit phase where the altitude of the satellite periodically is close to that of the GNSS-satellites, and fi- nally a late orbit phase, when the satellite is almost in a geostationary orbit, but has not yet rotated into its final attitude. The simulations show that with a GNSS-receiver with an acquisition and tracking threshold of 27 [dB ? Hz] and two high gain antennas, the root mean square position and velocity error can throughout all three orbit phases be kept below 1000 [m] and 30 [mm/s], respectively. QC 20151217

High temperature events can have a large negative effect on crop yields, and the effects of these events are strongly dependent on not only the maximum temperature but also on the length and timing of these heat stress events. In future climate the likelihood of these types of events are expected to increase and thus make it crucial to be able to correctly assess not only the effect of changes in mean temperature but also the effect of changes in climate extremes. Crop models are often employed to predict yield responses to a changing climate, and traditionally they have not included the effect of heat stress events. In recent years more and more models have come to include the effect of high temperature stress on crop yield. Here we implement three of these approaches (APSIM, GAEZ and CERES-Wheat) into the Crop-DGVM: LPJ-GUESS and results from an initial sensitivity analysis are presented. Results show a large difference in year to year variability in simulated yield for the different approaches, and also on differences in sensitivity in relation to temperature change.

This study was conducted as part of the impact uncertainty research of the crop modelling (CropM) component of MASUR, a project funded by national funding agencies and the EC.

Impact response surfaces (IRSs) depict the response of an impact variable to changes in two explanatory variables as a plotted surface. Here, IRSs of spring and winter wheat yields were constructed from a 25-member ensemble of process-based crop simulation models. Twenty-one models were calibrated by different groups using a common set of calibration data, with calibrations applied independently to the same models in three cases. The sensitivity of modelled yield to changes in temperature and precipitation was tested by systematically modifying values of 1981-2010 baseline weather data to span the range of 19 changes projected for the late 21st century at three locations in Europe.

On March 6, 2014 the final judgment was issued in a strange and for the Russian cultural history very interesting lawsuit. The Russian dancer Pavel Dmitričenko had then admitted that he was behind the sulphuric acid attack on 17 January 2013 against Sergei Filin, artistic director of the Bolšoj Theatre's ballet. He was sentenced to five and a half years in prison. At that time Dmitričenko danced the lead role in the ballet "Ivan the Terrible", with music taken from various compositions of Sergei Prokof’ev and choreography by Jurij Grigorovič. In the article the theme violence in relation to Ivan the Terrible is studied as manifested in different arts and between arts with the focus on the ballet and Repin’s painting “Ivan the terrible and his son”. Texts of Maksimilian Vološin, Selma Lagerlöf and Dmitrij Prigov are also used. The article demonstrates a complicated interrelation between “real” and mediated violence.

The discourses of terrorism. About the terror acts in the Moscow metro in 2010 The article aims at a discourse analysis of the mediation of the terrorist actions in the Moscow metro in March 2010. Using a whole range of materials from newspapers and the web, discourses pertaining to the following words and notions are discovered: war, guilt, victim, conspiracy, moral and memory. The guilt and victimization discourses are by far the most important ones. There is also discovered a similarity – an almost identical language use – between the war discourse of the Russian leaders and the Chechen rebels.

The Prisma smallsat in-orbit test-bed was launched on the 15th of June, 2010 to demonstrate strategies and technologies for formation flying and rendezvous. The mission consists of two spacecraft: Mango and Tango. Mango is 3-axis stabilized and is equipped with a propulsion system providing full 3D orbit control capability. Tango has a simplified solar magnetic control system and does not have any orbit control capability. The two spacecraft were launched clamped together into a 720/780 km altitude sun synchronous dawn-dusk orbit, and later separated in August of 2010. Since then, the two spacecraft, and rather lean operations team, have been performing a steady march through a tight mission and experiment timeline. This paper gives an overview of the Prisma mission in general and will focus on the lessons that have been learned from running a relatively intense, yet lean, small satellite technology demonstration mission. It has proven to show the value of autonomy and small platform applications, allowing for a high return on effort. Spacecraft autonomy and small, highly competent teams have allowed for quick and cost effective adaptations to changes and problem situations. The broad range of flight results from only one year in operation support these conclusions.
