Human rationality has a dual nature including analytic and common-sense thinking. Symptoms of schizophrenia have been suggested to be related to deficits in these aspects of logical reasoning. However, empirical studies investigating logical reasoning errors in schizophrenia and their clinical and neurocognitive correlates are scarce. Formal thought disorder and theory of mind (ToM) might be particularly important for understanding logical reasoning errors in schizophrenia. The current study compared the performances of 80 patients with schizophrenia with those of 49 healthy controls on syllogistic and counterfactual reasoning tasks and investigated clinical, neuropsychological, and social cognitive correlates of logical reasoning in schizophrenia. Patients with schizophrenia were impaired in both analytic and common-sense thinking. ToM impairment was a significant predictor of analytic reasoning abilities in schizophrenia. Executive functions and verbal memory were also significantly associated with analytic reasoning in schizophrenia. Further studies investigating logical reasoning errors in the early phases of the illness are needed.

Background: Opioid use disorder (OUD) is associated with significant functional impairment and neurocognitive dysfunction, but only a handful of studies have investigated social cognitive abilities in this condition. This study aimed to investigate facial emotion recognition accuracy/biases and two different aspects of theory of mind (ToM) (ToM-decoding vs ToM-reasoning) in people with recovered OUD. Methods: The participants included 32 people with recovered OUD who were on Buprenorphine + Naloxone (B/N) maintenance treatment and 32 healthy controls. In addition to neurocognitive tasks, both groups were assessed by a facial emotion recognition task, the faux pas recognition task, and the reading the mind from the eyes task. Results: In comparison to healthy controls, people on B/N maintenance treatment showed deficits in facial emotion recognition (d = 1.32) and both aspects of ToM (d = 0.87–1.21). In analyses of individual emotions, people on B/N maintenance treatment had decreased accuracy in recognition of anger and fear and had a bias to identify other emotions as sad. The duration of opioid use was robustly associated with difficulties in the recognition of anger. Conclusion: People in B/N maintenance treatment have significant difficulties in recognizing the emotions and mental states of others. Deficits in social cognition might be important for understanding the difficulties in interpersonal and social functioning in people with OUD.

Both structural and functional alterations in the retina and the choroid of the eye, as parts of the central nervous system, have been shown in psychotic disorders, especially in schizophrenia. In addition, genetic and imaging studies indicate vascular and angiogenesis anomalies in the psychosis spectrum disorders. In this ocular imaging study, choroidal structure and vascularity were investigated using enhanced depth imaging (EDI) optical coherence tomography (OCT) in first-episode psychosis (FEP), ultra-high risk for psychosis (UHR-P), and age- and gender- matched healthy controls (HCs). There were no significant differences between groups in central choroidal thickness, stromal choroidal area (SCA), luminal choroidal area (LCA) and total subfoveal choroidal area. The LCA/SCA ratio (ppp=0.002). Current findings suggest that choroidal thickness is normal, but there are abnormalities in choroidal microvasculature in prodromal and first-episode psychosis. Further longitudinal studies are needed to investigate oculomics, especially CVI, as a promising biomarker for the prediction of conversion to psychosis in individuals at clinical high-risk.

Cognitive impairment is evident euthymic patients with bipolar disorder (BP) and in their first degree relatives (BP-Rel). Increasing evidence suggests that BP is also associated with social cognitive impairment. It is important to establish whether social cognitive impairment is also evident in BP-Rel. A novel meta-analysis of theory of mind (ToM) and facial emotion recognition in BP-Rel including 16 studies (728 first-degree relatives of patients with BP and 865 healthy controls) was conducted. ToM (d=0.34, CI=0.16-0.52) was significantly impaired in BP-Rel. The effect size for the difference between BP-Rel and healthy controls was smaller for facial emotion recognition (d=0.17, CI=0.16-0.29) and could be nonsignificant after the effect of publication bias was taken into account. First-degree relatives of patients with BP underperform healthy subjects in social cognitive abilities, particularly in ToM. However, the effect size for between-group difference is small. Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, Geriatrik Hastalar İçin Hemşire Gözlem Ölçeği’nin (GHHGÖ) Türkçe formunun psikometrik özelliklerini incelemek, faktör yapısını ortaya koymak ve geçerlik ve güvenirliğini sınamaktır. Yöntemler: Çalışma, İzmir ilinde bir huzurevinde 60-96 yaşları arasındaki, 273 (180 kadın ve 93 erkek) sakin ile yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak,Geriatrik Hastalar İçin Hemşire Gözlem Ölçeği (GHHGÖ), Geriatrik Depresyon Ölçeği (GDÖ) ve Standardize Mini Mental Test (SMMT) kullanılmıştır. Ölçeğin güvenirliği için iç tutarlılık, madde-toplam puan korelasyonları ve görüşmeciler arası güvenirlik katsayısı hesaplanmıştır. Geçerliği ölçekler arası korelasyon ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Yüksek bir iç tutarlılığa (0.89) sahip olan ölçeğin, görüşmeciler arası güvenirlik katsayısı 0.90 bulunmuştur. GHHGÖ bellek alt ölçeği ile SMMT arasında kuvvetli bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Yapılan faktör analizi sonucunda iki faktör elde edilmiş ve bu iki faktörün SMMT ve GDÖ ile ilişkili olduğu saptanmıştır. Sonuç: GHHGÖ’nin Türkçe formunun alanda kullanılabilecek, geçerli ve güvenilir bir araç olduğu belirlenmiştir., Objective: the aim of this study was to examine the psychometric features of the Turkish version of the Nurses' Observation Scale for Geriatric Patients (NOSGER), to expose its factor structure and to evaluate its validity and reliability. Methods: the study was carried out among 273 residents (180 women, 93 men; aged 60-96) in a nursing home in Izmir. in the study, the NOSGER, Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and the Standardized Mini-Mental Test (SMMT) were used as data collection tools. Internal consistency, item-total score correlations and reliability correlation between the interviewers were calculated to assess the reliability of the scale. Its validity was examined by correlation between the scales. Results: Reliability coefficient between the interviewers of the scale, which had a high internal consistency (0.89), was found to be 0.90. A strong relationship was observed between the NOSGER memory subscale and the SMMT. in factor analysis of the scale, two factors were acquired and it was confirmed that those two factors were related to SMMT and GDS. Conclusion: IIt was determined that the Turkish version of the NOSGER was a valid and reliable tool that could be used in the area.

47 X-Ozet Bipolar bozuklukta bilişsel işlev bozukluklarına ilgi son dönemde artmıştır. Manik ve depresif dönemde çeşitli bilişsel işlev bozukluklarının olduğu çoktandır bilinmektedir. Ötimik bipolar bozukluk tanılı hastalarda da bellek, yürütücü işlevler, dikkat gibi alanlarda bilişsel işlev bozuklukları olduğu bildirilmektedir. Psikotik duygudurum dönemleri geçirmenin affektif hastalıkların ayrı bir boyutu olabileceğine dair kimi görüşler vardır. Psikotik bulgulu bipolar bozukluğu olan hastaların prognozlanmn daha kötü olabileceği düşünülmektedir. Psikotik bulguları yaşamanın remisyon dönemindeki hastalarmdaki bilişsel işlevler üzerine etkisi yeterince çalışılmamıştır. Bu çalışmada birincil olarak bipolar bozukluk tanılı hastaların remisyon döneminde bilişsel işlev bozulduklarının olup olmadığı ve bu bilişsel işlev bozukluklarının psikotik bulgulu dönemleri olan ve olmayan hastalar arasında niceliksel ve niteliksel farklılıklar gösterip göstermediğinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Hastalarda görülebilecek bilişsel işlev bozukluklarının ne ölçüde eşikaltı bulgulara bağlı olduğunu, hastalardaki bilişsel işlev bozukluklarının affektif hastalığın klinik özellikleri, hastalık süresi ve sosyodemografik verilerle ilişkisini incelemek çalışmanın ikincil amaçlarıydı. Çalışmaya 18-55 yaş arası en az dört aydır remisyonda olan 40 psikotik hastalık dönemleri olan ve 25 psikotik bulgulu herhangi bir dönem yaşamamış bipolar bozukluk tanılı hasta alındı. Sağlıklı kontrol grubu olarak 30 kişi çalışmaya alındı. Tüm olgularla SCDD ve sosyodemografik veri formu ile görüşüldü ve tüm katılımcılara HDDÖ, YDDÖ, BPRS uygulandı. Daha sonra tüm katılımcılara yaklaşık birbuçuk saat süren bir nöropsikolojik değerlendirme uygulandı. Tüm katılımcıların lityum, valproik asit ve karbamazepin kan düzeylerine bakıldı. Ayrıca tüm katılımcıların böbrek, karaciğer ve tiroid işlevlerinin göstergeleri olarak kreatinin, SGOT ve TSH kan değerlerine bakıldı. Hasta ve kontrol gruplarının sosyodemografik verilerinde belirgin fark yoktu. Her iki hasta grubunun dönem sayısı ve hastalık süreleri yönünden belirgin farkı yoktu. Psikotik grupta yatış süresi anlamlı derecede daha fazlaydı.48 Psikotik hastalarla kontrol grubu karşılaştırıldığında uygulanan testlere ait 17 skorun 14 tanesinde istatiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptandı. Nonpsikotik grupta da kontrol grubuna göre dikkat, sözel akıcılık ve sözel akıcılık gibi alanlarda sekiz skorda performans düşüklüğü saptandı. Psikotik grubun nonpsikotik gruptan istatiksel açıdan anlamlı fark gösterdiği tek test WKET kategori testiydi. Eşikaltı affektif bulgular İz sürme AveB testi gibi bazı bilişsel testlerle ilişkili bulundu. Ancak eşikaltı bulgular, eğitim süresi, yaş gibi değişkenlerin etkisi düzeltildikten sonra da bilişsel işlevlerde gruplar arası farklar sürüyordu. İz sürme A ve WKET kategori teşrindeki performans düşüklüğü hastalık süresi ve dönem süresi ortalamalanyla ters ilişkiliydi. Hastalık başlangıç yaşının erkenliği sözel bellek alanında kötü performansla ilişkiliydi. Lityum kan düzeyi RİSÖT hatırlama skoruyla ilişkiliydi. Sonuç olarak remisyondaki bipolar bozuklu tanılı hastalarda da birçok bilişsel işlev bozuklukları vardır ve bu durum tümüyle ilaçların etkisi ya da eşikaltı duygudurum semptomlarla açıklanamaz. Bazı yürütücü işlev bozuklukları bipolar hastalarda psikotik trait göstergesi gibi görünmektedir. Bellek performansında bozukluk bu çalışmada sadece psikotik bulgulu hastalarda kontrol grubuna göre daha belirgin olarak saptanmıştır. Dikkatin sürdürülmesi ve psikomotor hız, psikoz öyküsünden bağımsız olarak bipolar bozukluğun trait göstergesi gibi görünmektedir. 55

Clinical diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can be conceptualized as the extreme end of the distribution of subclinical autistic traits related to genetic susceptibility factors (broad autism phenotype (BAP)) in the general population. Subclinical autistic traits are significantly more common among unaffected first-degree relatives of probands with autism. However, there is a significant heterogeneity of autistic traits in family members of individuals with ASD and severity of autistic traits are not significantly different from controls in the majority of these relatives. The current study investigated the heterogeneity of autistic traits using latent class analysis (LCA) of the Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ) ratings of 673 parents of children with ASD and 147 parents of typically developing children. Two distinct subgroups, including a low-scoring and a high-scorer (BAP) groups, were found. In comparison to control parents, a significantly larger proportion (21.1% vs. 7.5%) of parents of ASD were members of BAP group. Communication subscale made a distinctive contribution to the separation of high and low-scoring groups (d=2.77). Further studies investigating neurobiological and genetic biomarkers and stability of these two subgroups over time are important for understanding the nature of autistic traits in the general population.
