The acquisition of scientific data on composition of the individual components of donkey’s milk, in particular caseins, is still very poor to support the similarity with human milk. So in this paper the results for the complex as1-CN composition were showed due to: 1) genetic polymorphism for the presence of at least two genetic variants with 210 aa; 2) incorrect splicing of the primary transcript determining, individual and simultaneous, elimination of 7 and 5 exons which corresponded to three proteins with 210, 202 and 197 aa respectively; 3) for each of these proteins at least two phosphorylated components were identified; 4) quantitative polymorphism because in some donkey milk samples the presence of the protein was only in traces.

Objective: Acute urinary retention (AUR) is the sudden and painful inability to urinate spontaneously. AUR is one of the most significant complications of benign prostatic enlargement. The management of AUR is based on transurethral catheterization. Subsequent therapy is uncertain, but AUR seems to benefit from the use of alpha-blockers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the variables that could predict which patients would recover spontaneous micturition after trial without catheter. Methods: The present prospective observational study included men with AUR in an Italian tertiary care institute in 2016. Patients were catheterized and treated orally with fluoroquinolones, alpha-blockers, and Serenoa repens extracts. Preoperative variables as age, C-reactive protein (CRP), previous prostate-specific antigen values, urinary retention volume, prostate volume, and scores on a modified International Prostate Symptom Score questionnaire (IPSS-4), were investigated in relation to spontaneous micturition recovery. Results: Mean (±SD) age was 68.4 ± 7.1 years. Spontaneous and valid micturition recovery was observed in 11 patients (29.7%), whereas 26 (70.3%) needed to be catheterized again. With the use of a proteomic approach a genetic screening of 70 individual donkey milk samples, from two autochthonous breeds reared in Italy, was carried out to determine the genetic polymorphism at donkey β-Lgs loci . The achieved results showed the occurrence of the new β-Lg II E genetic variant, differing from β-Lg II D reference for D Asp 2 /E Asn 2 , D Arg 18 /E Lys 18 and D Val 25 /E Ala 25 amino acid substitutions with a M r 18 256 Da. Moreover a quantitative polymorphism seemed to affect the donkey β-Lg II locus since four phenotypes, with a relative quantitative percentage respect to total whey protein ranging from 0% to 3.65%, were detected by HPLC analysis.
