Infrared hyperspectral imaging is a powerful approach in the field of materials and life sciences. However, the extension to modern sub-diffraction nanoimaging still remains a highly inefficient technique, as it acquires data via inherent sequential schemes. Here, we introduce the mathematical technique of low-rank matrix reconstruction to the sub-diffraction scheme of atomic force microscopy-based infrared spectroscopy (AFM-IR), for efficient hyperspectral infrared nanoimaging. To demonstrate its application potential, we chose the trypanosomatid unicellular parasites Leishmania species as a realistic target of biological importance. The mid-infrared spectral fingerprint window covering the spectral range from 1300 to 1900 cm$^{-1}$ was chosen and a step width of 220 nm was applied for nanoimaging of single parasites. Multivariate statistics approaches such as hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were used for extracting the chemically distinct spatial locations. Subsequently, we randomly selected only 5% from an originally gathered data cube of 134 (x) $\times$ 50 (y) $\times$ 148 (spectral) AFM-IR measurements and reconstructed the full data set by low-rank matrix recovery. The technique is evaluated by showing agreement in the cluster regions between full and reconstructed data cubes. We conclude that the corresponding measurement time of more than 14 hours can be reduced to less than 1 hour. These findings can significantly boost the practical applicability of hyperspectral nanoimaging in both academic and industrial settings involving nano- and bio-materials.

We review a method to directly solve the Bethe-Salpeter equation in Minkowski space, both for bound and scattering states. It is based on a proper treatment of the many singularities which appear in the kernel and propagators. The off-mass shell scattering amplitude for spinless particles interacting by a one boson exchange was computed for the first time. Using our Minkowski space solutions for the initial (bound) and final (scattering) states, we calculate elastic and transition (bound to scattering state) electromagnetic form factors. Three unbound states at excitation energies of 2.66(2), 3.16(5), and 3.97(3) MeV (preliminary) were observed. The energies are compared with shell-model calculations and existing measurements to deduce their spin-parities. From the comparison, the states at 2.66(2) and 3.97(3) MeV are suggested to be 1/2− and 3/2−, respectively. From its decay property, the state at 3.16(5) MeV is indicated to be 9/2+.

A recently developed formulation for treating two- and three-nucleon bound states in a three-dimensional formulation based on spin-momentum operators is extended to nucleon-nucleon scattering. Here the nucleon-nucleon t-matrix is represented by six spin-momentum operators accompanied by six scalar functions of momentum vectors. We present the formulation and provide numerical examples for the deuteron and nucleon-nucleon scattering observables. A comparison to results from a standard partial wave decomposition establishes the reliability of this new formulation., Comment: 34 pages, 9 figures (in 41 eps files)

A 25 kbp DNA fragment from the chromosome of Rhodobacter capsulatus B10 carrying hydrogenase (hup) determinants was completely sequenced. Coding regions corresponding to 20 open reading frames were identified. The R. capsulatus hydrogenase-specific gene (hup and hyp) products bear significant structural identity to hydrogenase gene products from Escherichia coli (13), from Rhizobium leguminosarum (16), from Azotobacter vinelandii (10) and from Alcaligenes eutrophus (11). The sequential arrangement of the R. capsulatus genes is: hupR2-hupU-hypF-hupS-hupL-hupM-hu pD-hupF-hupG-hupH-hupJ-hupK-hypA- hypB-hupR1- hypC-hypD-hypE-ORF19-ORF20, all contiguous and transcribed from the same DNA strand. The last two potential genes do not encode products that are related to identified hydrogenase-specific gene products in other species. The sequence of the 12 R. capsulatus genes underlined above is presented. The mutation site in two of the Hup- mutants used in this study, RS13 and RCC12, was identified in the hypF gene (deletion of one G) and in the hypD gene (deletion of 54 bp), respectively. The hypF gene product shares 45% identity with the product of hydA from E. coli and the product of hypF from R. leguminosarum. Those products present at their N-terminus a Cys arrangement typical of zinc-finger proteins. The G deletion in the C-terminal region of hypF in the RS13 mutant prevented the expression of a hupS::lacZ translational fusion from being stimulated by H2 as it is observed in the wild-type strain B10. It is inferred that the HypF protein is a factor involved in H2 stimulation of hydrogenase expression.
