Although bi-communal violence in Cyprus ended almost 50 years ago, the island’s northern and southern sides have yet to reach a comprehensive peace deal. As a result, Cypriots live in a state of functional coexistence whereby they interact with each other in a limited fashion and nonviolently. This article examines the most common explanations for the status quo of nonresolution that has existed in Cyprus for decades before offering a new explanation to consider and address this nonresolution: the mismatch between “liberal” peacebuilding interventions and “illiberal” conditions. To overcome this mismatch, this article argues that it is first necessary to address illiberal conditions to allow peacebuilding attempts to be successful. If illiberalities are not dealt with, they will not only sustain and perpetuate nonresolution, but they will also prevent the emergence of positive peace.

PURPOSE: Sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) testing was recently added to the sixth edition of the World Health Organization laboratory manual for the examination and processing of human semen. Many conditions and risk factors have been associated with elevated SDF; therefore, it is important to identify the population of infertile men who might benefit from this test. The purpose of this study was to investigate global practices related to indications for SDF testing, compare the relevant professional society guideline recommendations, and provide expert recommendations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Clinicians managing male infertility were invited to take part in a global online survey on SDF clinical practices. This was conducted following the CHERRIES checklist criteria. The responses were compared to professional society guideline recommendations related to SDF and the appropriate available evidence. Expert recommendations on indications for SDF testing were then formulated, and the Delphi method was used to reach consensus. RESULTS: The survey was completed by 436 experts from 55 countries. Almost 75% of respondents test for SDF in all or some men with unexplained or idiopathic infertility, 39% order it routinely in the work-up of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), and 62.2% investigate SDF in smokers. While 47% of reproductive urologists test SDF to support the decision for varicocele repair surgery when conventional semen parameters are normal, significantly fewer general urologists (23%; p=0.008) do the same. Nearly 70% would assess SDF before assisted reproductive technologies (ART), either always or for certain conditions. Recurrent ART failure is a common indication for SDF testing. Very few society recommendations were found regarding SDF testing. CONCLUSIONS: This article presents the largest global survey on the indications for SDF testing in infertile men, and demonstrates diverse practices. Furthermore, it highlights the paucity of professional society guideline recommendations. Expert recommendations are proposed to help guide clinicians.

Aydın, Gökhan (Balikesir Author), Objective: Myocardial infarction (MI) with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) is a relatively new term that is characterized by clinical evidence of MI with normal or near-normal coronary arteries on coronary angiography (QCA). To date, there have been no population-based studies on the prevalence of MINOCA in Turkey. The aim of this nationwide study was to document the prevalence and demographics of MINOCA in a Turkish population. Methods: MINOCA-TR is national, multi-center, prospective, all-comer study that was conducted in 32 hospitals. All consecutive patients who were >= 18 years old, diagnosed with MI according to the Third Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction, and had undergone DCA were included in the study. Patients with stable coronary artery disease, unstable angina pectoris, a history of revascularization, and type 4/5 MI were excluded. Results: A total of 1793 patients who were diagnosed with MI and had undergone QCA were screened between March 2018 and October 2018, of whom 1626 (mean age: 61.5 +/- 12.5 years, 70.7% male) were enrolled from 32 centers. The prevalence of MINOCA was 6.7% (n=109) in the overall study population. Compared with non-MINOCA patients, those with MINOCA were younger, had a higher prevalence of the female gender, and had a history of flu. Cherry production has a vital role regarding income source for producers and export sources for Turkey. In Turkey, several studies have done regarding the technical practices, and most of them were not considered the economic dimension of cherry production. This research aimed to determine the production inputs, costs and profitability of cherry production. This study aims to reveal the relationship between orchard size and profitability by using general economic calculations based on Afyonkarahisar, Denizli, Isparta, İzmir, Konya and Manisa provinces, in Turkey. It is assumed that this study may be able to close the existing gap regarding other studies in the literature to a certain extent. This study support that more prominent cherry orchards had higher profits compared to smaller. The relative profit varies between 2.2 to 3.0 in the farm size groups. In this study, it was found that relative profit is the highest in the bigger-scale orchards. The most crucial problem for producers is to achieve a profitable cherry selling price. This study found the output/input ratio is high. Orchard size and production cost have a significant influence on the economic success of a cherry orchard. Production cost has a negative influence on profitability with a low cherry yield. This thesis aims to contribute to the physical understanding of turbulence in canonical flows. For that purpose, experiments are conducted in a statistically steady turbulent pipe flow, ramp-type accelerating/decelerating turbulent pipe flow and turbulent Taylor-Couette flow. For the first two flows, time-resolved data is acquired in the cross section of the pipe with stereoscopic PIV. The databases spanning over a friction Reynolds number range of Re⌧ = 340−1259 are utilised to study coherent motions, in particular the large-scale motions and the internal shear layers bounding them. For the turbulent Taylor-Couette flow study, in addition to torque measurements, high resolution stereoscopic-PIV measurements are performed in the radial-axial planes to investigate the hysteresis phenomenon in the system.

Turkey is among the leading countries in the world in sheep breeding because of its geographical and ecological characteristics. The number ofsheep was realized as about 30 million heads in 2016 in Turkey. Turkey’s total milk production was approximately 18.5 million tons in 2016,and 6.3% of it was sheep milk. Turkey’s sheep number has decreased by 21.4% in the last 25 years. The sheep number in the Western MediterraneanRegion constituted 3.04% of Turkey in 2016. There was a decrease of 27.1% in the presence of sheep in the Western MediterraneanRegion between 2000 and 2009, with an increase in the last 5 years due to the support. However, it is important to meet the requirement of redmeat consumption in the country and region, to contribute to the industrial sector from the supplied raw materials, and also to determine the situationand problems of the enterprises in sheep farming, considering the employment effect in terms of both rural and industrial sectors. In thisstudy, it was aimed that to determine the situation of sheep breeding in the region and the problems of breeders. Sample size was calculated as102 farms by the stratified sampling method. The data were obtained from sheep producers in Antalya, Isparta and Burdur with face-to-face interviewtechnique. Grazing in the region and high input prices were among the most important problems. Therefore, it is suggested to improvethe protection of existing pasture areas, to develop policies for reducing input prices, to provide support loans in feed and increase support.&nbsp

Fractional flow reserve (FFR) is a method for the assessment of the intermediate stenosis severity(3). The effect of coronary artery disease (CAD) severity on the FFR results is not clear. In this study, we aimed to expose the effect of CAD severity calculated with Syntax and Gensini scores on FFR results. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We scanned patients data (n= 378) who had undergone fractional flow reserve measurements in our center. Patients with acute coronary syndrome in the last month, moderate or severe valvular diseases, acute heart failure, serious bradycardia, atrial fibrillation/flutter, severe left ventricular hypertrophy or patient with deficient data were excluded. 351 patients were included in the study. Genotip ve yetiştirme koşullarına göre tohumunda %16.4-31.2 oranda ham protein bulunan nohut hayvansal protein kaynaklarının yetersiz ve pahalı olduğu gelişmekte olan ülkelerde, beslenme açısından ucuz protein kaynağı olarak büyük öneme sahip bir yemeklik tane baklagildir. Çanakkale yöresinde genellikle yazlık olarak ekilen nohut veriminde hava koşullarına bağlı olarak önemli dalgalanmalar görülmektedir. Yörede geçiş bölgesi iklimi hakim olması nedeniyle kışları Akdeniz ve Ege bölgelerine göre daha sert geçmektedir. Yörede kışlık olarak yetiştirilen tek yemeklik dane baklagil türü bakladır. Nohutun bu yörede Akdeniz bölgesinde olduğu gibi kışlık olarak yetiştirilme olanaklarının araştırılması yüksek verim alabilmek bakımından önem taşımaktadır. Yöremizde kışlık nohut yetiştirme olanaklarını araştırmak amacıyla ICARDA kökenli 10 nohut hattı kullanılarak ÇOMÜ Ziraat Fakültesi bünyesinde yürütülen bu çalışmada denemeler 2003-2004 ve 2004-2005 yetiştirme sezonlarında tesadüf blokları deneme desenine göre 4 sıra halinde 5 m2 ’lik parsellerde kurulmuştur. Kışa dayanıklılık standart çeşitte % 55.42 iken diğer hatlarda % 70.91 ile % 78.75 arasında değiştiği saptanmıştır. Dane veriminde standart çeşitte 266.92 kg/da, diğer hatlarda da 296.03 kg/da ile 381.68 kg/da arasında bulunmuştur. Elde edilen ilk iki yıla ait bulgulara göre, yöremizde kışlık nohut ile ilgili bir çok özelliğin yazlık ekimlere göre daha avantajlı olabileceği; verim özelliği ve makinalı hasada uygunluk açısından kışlık ekimlerin daha avantajlı olabileceği saptanmıştır. Chickpea, containing relatively high levels of protein in its seeds, plays a great role in human nutrition in developing countries where animal proteins are expensive and inadequate. Generally chickpea is grown as a summer crop in Çanakkale. Due to irregularity of precipitations, yield levels may fluctuate from year to year dramatically. Çanakkale district has relatively colder winters as compared to Mediterranean and Aegean regions. Only edible legume grown as a winter crop in this area is broad bean. It is important to investigate the possibilities of growing chickpea as a winter crop in Çanakkale as it is in Mediterranean region. This research was carried out to investigate the winter hardiness and yield levels of chickpea varieties sown in autumn, with 10 lines from ICARDA and a local variety in ÇOMU Agricultural Research Station in Dardanos. The field trial was in randomized complete block design with 5 m2 4-row plots. The value of winter hardiness was 55.42 % for standard variety and it ranged between 70.91 and 78.75 % for the other plant material. The seed yield for standard variety was 2669.2 kg/ha. This value changed between 2960. 3 and 3816.8 kg/ha. Preliminary results show that chickpea can be grown as winter crop with high yield and some lines are suitable for machinery harvest.

First passage times underlie many stochastic processes in which the event, such as a chemical reaction,the firing of a neuron, or the triggering of a stock option, relies on a variable reaching a specified valuefor the first time. Regular physical exercise beneficially influences cardiac antioxidant defenses in normal rats. The aim of this study was to test whether endurance training can strengthen glutathione-dependent antioxidant defense mechanism and decrease lipid peroxidation in heart of the streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Redox status of glutathione in blood of diabetic rats in response to training and acute exercise was also examined. Eight weeks of treadmill training increased the endurance in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. It did not affect glutathione level in heart tissue at rest and also after exercise. On the other hand, endurance training decreased glutathione peroxidase activity in heart, while glutathione reductase and glutathione S-transferase activities were not affected either by acute exhaustive exercise or endurance training. Reduced and oxidized glutathione levels in blood were not affected by either training or acute exercise. Conjugated dienes levels in heart tissue were increased by acute exhaustive exercise and also 8 weeks treadmill training. Longer duration of exhaustion in trained group may have contributed to the increased conjugated dienes levels in heart after acute exercise. Our results suggest that endurance type exercise may make heart more susceptible to oxidative stress. Therefore it may be wise to combine aerobic exercise with insulin treatment to prevent its adverse effects on antioxidant defense in heart in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Background: This study describes our one-center experience in crush injury and compartment syndrome sustained in the Marmara and Duzce earthquakes that hit the region within a 3-month period. Patients and Methods: We reviewed medical records of patients with crush injuries from the two earthquakes and analyzed treatment, morbidity and mortality rates. Results: A total number of 75 patients with crush injury was seen. Mean entrapment time was 14 (±10) and 6 (±4) h in the Marmara and Duzce earthquakes, respectively (p < 0.01). Fasciotomy was performed in 43 patients who developed compartment syndrome. 38.6% of the patients (n = 29) had sustained associated injuries, and 25.3% of the patients (n = 19) showed more than one organ system injury. Hemodialysis was performed in 35 patients. Ten patients required amputation. The total infection rate was 37.3%. Total mortality rate amounted to 14.6%. Increased entrapment times led to a higher mortality rate, although the association was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Crush injury and compartment syndrome are frequently seen after earthquakes and associated with a high mortality. These patients should receive multidisciplinary treatment.

WOS: 000421963600007, PubMed: 25782122, Objectives: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common causes of preventable ischemic stroke and is related to increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. There is a lack of data in Turkey on the use of new oral anticoagulants (NOACs), and time in therapeutic INR range (TTR) in vitamin K antagonist users and AF management modality. In this multi-center trial, we aimed to analyze, follow and evaluate the epidemiological data in non-valvular AF patients. Study design: Four thousand one hundred consecutive adult patients from 42 centers with at least one AF attack identified on electrocardiography will be included in the study. Patients with rheumatic mitral valve stenosis and prosthetic valve disease will be excluded from the study. At the end of one year, the patients will be evaluated in terms of major cardiac end points (death, transient ischemic attack, stroke, systemic thromboembolism, major bleeding and hospitalization). Results: First results are expected in June 2015. Data about major cardiovascular end-points will be available in January 2016. Conclusion: The rates and kind of oral anticoagulant use, TTR in vitamin K antagonist users and main management modality applied in non-valvular AF patients will be determined by AFTER-2 study. In addition, the rate of major adverse events (MACEs) and the independent predictors of these MACEs will be detected (AFTER-2 Study ClinicalTrials. gov number, NCT02354456.).

Bu çalışmada, 1961-2004 döneminde dünya ve Türkiye meyve üretimindeki gelişmeler incelenmiş ve Türkiye’nin meyve üretiminde dünyadaki yeri ve önemi ortaya konulmuştur. Çalışma kapsamına üretim potansiyeli açısından önemlilik gösteren 22 meyve türü dahil edilmiştir. Araştırma konusu meyvelerin dönem boyunca dünya üretim alanı ve üretim miktarlarında önemli artışlar gerçekleşmiştir. Türkiye’de ise meyve üretim alanları türler itibariyle farklılık göstermekle birlikte aynı düzeyde seyretmiş ancak verimden kaynaklanan üretim artışları söz konusu olmuştur. Türkiye’de meyve veriminde kaydedilen artışlar dünya ortalamasının üzerinde gerçekleşmiştir. Türkiye özellikle fındık, ayva, incir, kayısı ve kiraz gibi meyvelerde sahip olduğu üretim miktarı ile dünyada söz sahibi üretici ülke konumundadır

Kolza küspesi önemli bir yem kaynağıdır. Glikosinolat ve sinapin asit esterleri kolza küspesinde kaliteyi düşüren en önemli iki unsurdur. Bu çalışmanın amacı, farklı azot dozlarında (N1: 0 kg/da, N2: 13 kg/da ve N3:26 kg/da), 19 kışlık kolza çeşidinde yem kalitesini ilgilendiren ve olumsuz etkileyen glikosinolat ve sinapin asit esterlerinde azot gübrelemesine bağlı olarak görülen değişimlerin saptanmasıdır. Deneme tesadüf blokları deneme desenine göre iki yıllık süre ile Çanakkale koşullarında kurulmuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre her iki özellik bakımından çeşitler arasında her gübreleme düzeyinde önemli farkların bulunduğu saptanmıştır. Glikosinolat ve sinapin asit esteri analizleri NIRS (near infrared reflection spectroscopy) ile yapılmıştır. Glikosinolat oranı bakımından bulunan ortalama değerler, azot dozlarına göre sırasıyla 7.75, 8.35 ve 11.05 μmol gr-1, sinapin asit esterleri için ise 0.24, 0.27 ve 0.36 μmol gr-1olarak bulunmuştur. Azot gübrelemesine bağlı olarak her iki özelliğin de artış gösterdiği bulunmuştur. Bu bilgiler ışığında yapılacak azot gübrelemelerinde küspe kalitesinin de korunması bakımından dozların iyi ayarlanması gerekmektedir

Çiçeklenme ile ilgil özellikler erkencilik ve olgunluk gibi özellikler için önem taşır. Bu özellikler ıslah amaçları için yardımcı özellik olarak da kullanılabilirler. Bir çok çevresel faktör çiçeklenme başlangıcı, çiçeklenme sonu ve çiçeklenme süresine etki eder. Çiçeklenme ile ilgili özellikler kantitatif kalıtım gösterirler. Günümüzde kantitatif kalıtım gösteren özelliklerin belirlenmesi mümkündür. Bundan başka böyle genlerin etkilerini, posizyonlarını, birbiriyle ilişkilerininin saptanmasının yanında çevre ile olan etkileşimlerini yeni biyometrik ve moleküler yöntemlerle saptamak mümkündür. QTL analizleri için ‘Mansholt’s ve Samourai’ adlı iki çeşitten elde edilmiş 142 katlanmış haploitten oluşan bir populasyon ile RFLP markörlerinden oluşturulan bir harita kullanılmıştır. Veriler tarla denemelerinden elde edilmiştir. İstatistiksel analizler PLAPSTAT adlı bir programla yapılmıştır. Azot gübrelemesine bağlı olarak bulunan QTL’lerin genom üzerindeki yer ve pozisyonlarında bazı farklılıklar bulunmuştur (N= 0 kg/ha, N1= 240 kg/ha). Çiçeklenme başlangıcı için N0 düzeyinde toplam 4 QTL, N1 düzeyinde de 5 QTL bulunmuştur. Çiçeklenme sonu ile ilgili N0 düzeyinde 4 QTL, N1 düzeyinde ise 3 adet QTL tespit edilmiştir. Çiçeklenme süresi için ise sırası ile 4 (N0) ve 3 (N1) QTL saptanmıştır. İnteraksiyon analizlerinde N0 ve N1düzeylerine ait veriler kullanılarak her düzeyde bulunabilen QTL’ler aynı psozisyonda tekrar bulunmuştur. Azot ile bazı QTL’ler arasında interaksiyonun bulunduğu görülmüştür. Elde edilen sonuçlar kolzada erkencilik ve dieğer bazı özelliklerin iyileştirilmesinde kullanılabilir.

Kolza (Brassica napus L.) serin iklimlerde yetiştirilen en önemli yağ bitkisidir. Türkiye’de toplam yağ üretimi içerisinde kolzanın kayda değer bir önemi yoktur. Yağlı tohumların ithalat maliyetlerinin yüksekliğinden dolayı yerli kolza üretimi Tarım ve Köy İşleri Bakanlığı tarafından desteklenmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye’nin kuzey batısında üretilen yeni kolza çeşitlerinde yağ ve protein oranı, oleik ve linolenik asit oranlarının yanında tohumda istenmeyen maddeler sinapin ve glikosinolat oranlarının belirlenmesidir. Veriler 9 çeşitte ve iki yıllık tarla denemelerinden elde edilmiştir. Kalite analizleri yakın kızıl ötesi yansıma spektroskopisi (NIRS) ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Kullanılan çeşitler arasında tüm özellikler bakımından önemli farklılıklar saptanmıştır. Elde edilen verilere göre yağ oranı %43.20 (Alesi)-47.04 (Licrown), protein oranı %15.34 (Licrown)-20.53 (Triangle), glikosinolat miktarı 7.59-18.55 µmol g-1, sinapin asit esterleri 0.29-0.40 mg kg-1, oleic asit oranı %56.92-65.71 ve linolenik asit oranı % 9.55-11.97 değerleri arasında değişim gösterdiği saptanmıştır

Avenacins are a mixture of 4 major (avenacin A-1, B-1, A-2 and B-2) autofluorescent compounds that are accumulated in the roots of oats (Avena spp.), especially root tips, and that have antimicrobial properties. In this research, we screened 189 genotypes of the family Gramineae for autofluorescence and also quantified 35 Avena genotypes for avenacin A-1 content, which is the most abundant and toxic avenacin type. Screening under UV transillumination proved that none of the species, except for Avena spp. accumulated avenacins in their roots. We aimed to find a genotype that lacks avenacin A-1 in order to investigate fungus-oat interaction in that particular interaction. The avenacin A-1 contents of Avena spp. varied between 4.7 and 6.5 mg g-1 fresh weight of root tips. Although there was significant statistical variation in means of avenacin A-1 contents, the search for a genotype that lacks avenacin A-1 was unsuccessful. A soil-borne fungi collection from cereals (Culvularia sp., Drechslera victoriae, Rhizoctonia solani (A-6 type), Pythium ultimum, Fusarium culmorum, F. nivale, F. oxysporum and F. poae) was also included briefly in this research to assess the antifungal activity of avenacins. According to the bioassay, all fungi exhibited inhibition zones around the oat root extract with the exception of P. ultimum. This result suggests that avenacins might contribute to fungal disease resistance and could be used for disease resistance breeding for some major root colonizing fungi.

According to theoretical studies, the foreland basin consists of: accretionary wedge (including wedge top or piggyback basin), foredeep, forebulge and backbulge depozones. All of them are parallel to the orogenic belts of the overlying and underlying plates. The closure of the southern branch of the Neotethys during the Late Cretaceous led to an oblique collision of the Arabian Plate and the Anatolide-Taurides Platform, leading to the development of the Miocene Kahramanmaraş Foreland Basin (KFB). Thus, the promontory shape of the Arabian Plate prevented the development of an accretionary wedge parallel to the orogenic belt. The accretionary wedge of the KFB includes blocks of various sizes and age (mainly Mesozoic limestone) scattered within an Early Tertiary matrix (mass wasting deposits and shallow to deep marine sediments). At the beginning of the Miocene, transtensional tectonism led to the development of half-graben basins on top of the accretionary wedge. These basins (namely; the Tekir and Çukurhisar) also cut the foredeep of the KFB obliquely (in contrast with the theoretical study). This paper focuses on the evolution and fillings of those basins. Initially, claystone and basin margin reef deposits filled the half-graben basins as a consequence of the Lower Miocene sea invasion. Then, long and narrow conglomeratic channels starting from the northern edge of the basins (fan-delta) progressed southwards, passing into sandy lobes, then into claystones. An activation of the boundary faults of the wedge top basin stopped the progression of the Lower-Middle Miocene sediments and led to their deformation. Then, the sedimentation of the KFB shifted towards the basin centre during the Middle Miocene. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. The Hoyran Lake Basin is an example of a Neogene rift basin in southwest Turkey. Initially red coloured, poorly-sorted, angular cobble to pebble conglomerates were deposited close to the boundary faults. These conglomerates then passed into the finer-grained, calcite-cemented pebble to granule conglomerates towards the basin interior. The distributions of other lacustrine lithofacies (siltstone/claystone, marlstone, limestone and magnesite) appear to have been dependent on the proximity of the lake margins. These occurrences show that the basin was subject to some climatic and tectonic controls. Humid seasons and/or tectonic activities resulted in increased clastic input from the lake margins, drier conditions enhanced evaporation and significantly modified the water chemistry. Ultramafic and dolomitic older rocks around the basin are considered to have been an important source for the ion concentrations implicated in the precipitation of dolomite and magnesite in the Hoyran Lake deposits.

What explains the breakout of violence following the repression of moderate Islamist groups in some Muslim countries? Part of the answer can lie in the political organization style of those groups, which can constrain or expand their long-term strategy choices in unpredicted ways. Using examples from Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, and Turkey, this study suggests that organizing as a political party can initially restrict the means of action otherwise available to a moderate Islamist movement, while the loose framework of a political front reduces its organizational costs and lends remarkable flexibility to attract a wider range of followers. Later, paradoxically, the political party framework can enable limited access of an Islamist group into the political system otherwise completely inaccessible earlier, and help to enhance its power, while political fronts are exposed to attacks from both incumbent regimes and radical Islamists groups alike.

Integer Programming similar to linear programming, used when decision variables required being integer, is widely used in solving logistic problems. Main goal of this study is to determine advantage of a cement plant in case of utilizing an outsourcing company for cement transportation. In this scope, integer programming has been used for determining the size of truck fleet of outsourcing company. Demand of each vendor of plant, their distance to plant and cost data about the three types of truck with different capacities have been main inputs for the study. Transportation prices for plant has been determined based on the fleet size obtained from the solution of integer programming model and found to be 35.1% less than the prices of transporter cooperatives., Karar değişkenlerinin tamsayı değerli olması gerektiği durumlarda kullanılan ve doğrusal programlama tekniğine benzer bir yaklaşım olan Tamsayılı Doğrusal Programlama Tekniği, lojistik problemlerin çözümünde yaygın bir şekilde kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın ana amacı, bir çimento fabrikasının torba çimento nakliye işinde bir dış kaynak firmasından yararlanması durumunda elde edeceği maliyet avantajının tespit edilmesidir. Bu kapsamda, dış kaynak firmasının sahip olması gereken kamyon filosunun büyüklüğünün belirlenmesinde tamsayılı doğrusal programlamadan yararlanılmıştır. Çimento fabrikasının bayilerinin talepleri ve fabrikaya olan uzaklıkları ile değişik kapasiteli üç farklı kamyon tipine ilişkin maliyet bilgileri ana girdileri oluşturmuştur. Elde edilen çözüm yardımıyla çimento fabrikasına önerilecek nakliye fiyatları belirlenmiş ve bu fiyatların taşıyıcı kooperatiflerin fiyatlarına göre %35.1 oranında daha avantajlı olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

Bu çalışma, farklı düzeylerdeki formaldehit muamelesinin soya küspesinin (SK) rumendeki kuru madde (KM), ham protein (HP), efektif kuru madde (EKMP) ve efektif protein parçalanabilirliği (EPP), ile bunlara ait parçalanma parametreleri (a, b, a+b, c) üzerine etkisini incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmada SK ham protein miktarının %0, 0.3, 0.6 ve 0.9'u düzeyinde formaldehit ile muamele edilerek 2, 4, 8, 16, 24 ve 48 saatlik sürelerde nanende inkubasyona tabi tutulmuştur. Muamelesiz ve %0.3, 0.6 ve 0.9'u düzeyinde formaldehit muameleli SK'nin 48 saatlik inkubasyonda kuru madde parçalanabilirliği sırasıyla %89.38, 85.04, 77.09, 70.81 ham protein parçalanabilirliği %87.67, 79.98, 68.42, 58.61 olarak bulunmuştur (P < 0.01). Yine k=0.05 de efektif kuru madde parçalanabilirliği %58.58, 55.15, 52.38, 49.85 efektif ham protein parçalanabilirliği ise %49.48, 44.55, 39.75, 36.73 olarak tespit edilmiştir (P < 0.01). Çalışmada parçalanma parametrelerinin de (b, a+b) muamelelerden önemli derecede etkilendiği saptanmıştır (P < 0.05). SK'nin gerek kuru madde gerekse ham protein parçalanma oranlarının formaldehit muamelesi ile önemli derecede azaldığı, bu azalmanın formaldehit düzeyi ile doğru orantılı olduğu belirlenmiştir., This study was conducted to determine the effects of different level of formaldehyde treatments on dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), effective DM (EDMD), effective CP (ECPD) degradabilities and degradation kinetic parameters of soybean meal in the rumen. Soybean meal was treated with 0, 0.3, 0.6, and 0.9% formaldehyde and then incubated in the rumen for 2, 4, 8, 24, and 48 hours. Degradability of DM was 89.38, 85.04, 77.09, and 70.81 degradability of CP was 87.67, 79.98, 68.42, and 58.61% for soybean meal treated with 0, 0.3, 0.6, and 0.9%, respectively (P < 0.01). At the passage rate of 0.05, EDMD was 58.58, 55.15, 52.38, and 49.85% and ECPD was 49.48, 44.55, 39.75, and 36.73% for increasing level of formaldehyde respectively (P < 0.01). There were also significant effects of formaldehyde treatments on "b" and "a+b" kinetic parameters (P < 0.05). In conclusion, degradabilities of DM and CP in the rumen decreased accordingly with increased levels of formaldehyde treatment of soybean meal.

ABSTRACT Miocene age Lice and Kahramanmaraş basins examined in this study are located in the collisional zone of Taurus and Arabian plates. The region has been tectonically divided into four zones from north southwards as Orogenic belt, Marginal fold belt, Folded belt and Foreland. In the study area extending over the Orogenic belt and Marginal fold belt, autochtonous units together with allochtonous Koçali melange and Karadut complex emplaced onto the Arabian plate at early Maastrichtian; Engizek sub-belt forming the lower parts of the Orogenic belt and emplaced in the region at Early Miocene and Misis-Andinn sub-belt structurally configured by Middle-Late Miocene tectonics have been partly modified in accordance with TSK rules and presented here. The units examined as 'Basement units' are those Cambrian-early Maastrichtian age autochtonous units belonging to Arabian plate and allochtonous Koçali melange, Karadut complex; Devonian(?)-upper Campanian Malatya metamorphics of Engizek sub-belt; Pötürge metamorphics and Berit metamorphics of an age span covering Paleozoic and Mesozoic and Permian-Late Cretaceous age units of Misis-Andinn sub-belt. Sedimentation over Autochtonous Basement Units are represented by 'Autochtonous cover rock units', which are Şırnak group deposited from late Maastrichtian to Early Eocene; Midyat group from Middle Eocene to Oligocene; Silvan group from Early Miocene to early Middle Miocene and Kahramanmaraş group from Middle to Late Miocene. Over allochtons, on the other hand, 'Allochtonous cover rock units' were deposited from late Maastrichtian to Oligocene. Late Miocene age Bostanh-Cuhadarh fault, Yenicekale-Alikayası-Beşen fault and Sürgü fault form the borders between the sub-belts and East Anatolian fault the plate margin. Correlations between different units and geological evolution of the area from Cambrian to Pliocene have been also presented. Formation of a failed rift in Taurides in Triassic; opening of Neo-Tehysis and seperation of Taurus plate from Arabian plate by newly formed ocean and its closing and follwing collision of the plates during Senomanian to early Maastrichtian; formation and destruction of Çamhbel basin from late Maastrichtian to early Eocene and Maden basin in Middle Eocene over the collison zone; development of Alacık basin during Late Eocene-Oligocene and Lice basin during Early Miocene-early Middle Miocene as the peripheral basins in front of the approaching allochtons and finally formation of Kahramanmaraş basin during Middle-Late Miocene time are those observations made in this study. Petroleum prospectivity of the study are has been questioned and structural elements that might be of potential if source rocks charging them are present have been designated. 304

Bu çalışmada 1954-1958 yılları arasındaki döneme ait Sümer Eczanesi Uyuşturucu İlaç Kayıt Defteri incelenmiştir. Defterde doktorun adı, reçetedeki ilaçlar, ilacın formu ve miktarına ait bilgiler bulunmaktadır. Veriler doktorların branşlarına göre gruplandırılmıştır. Kayıt defterinde 18 adet uyuşturucu müstahzar bulunmaktadır. İlaçlar ampul, pudra ve tablet formlarındadır. O yıllarda ilaç hammaddesindeki büyük sıkıntılar sebebiyle sakkarin tabletlerin de kontrole tabii ilaçlar listesine eklendiği görülmüştür. Defterde reçetesi kayıtlı 37 doktordan 5’i dâhiliye uzmanı, 4’ü genel cerrah ve 5’i pratisyendir. Sonraki dönemlerde Sağlık Bakanı olan Vedat Ali Özkan, cumhuriyetin ilk kadın pediatri doktorlarından olan İclal Ataer, sonraki yıllarda İstanbul İl Sağlık Müdürlüğü yapan Arif Akşehirlioğlu, diş hekimliğinin yanı sıra şiir ve edebiyatla ilgilenen Turhan Nesimi Küçükusta bu hekimlerden bazılarıdır, Mehmet Cemaledin Emden (1902-1976), owner and managing director of the Sumer Pharmacy (Kayseri) graduated from the School of Pharmacy in Istanbul in 1924, and specialized in chemistry in the following years. He made his internship in the pharmacy of Pharmacist Ethem Pertev. After deciding to serve in Anatolia, he operated a pharmacy between the years 1927-1932 in the Develi county of Kayseri, and later moved to city center in order to open the Sumer Pharmacy. Cemal Emden managed to make himself unforgettable by making multi-faceted studies beside being a community pharmacist. Together with Dr. S.J. Becarano, he wrote the Practical Medical Formulary in 1943. Between the years 1953-1956, he founded the Sumer Drugs Laboratory in Kayseri and prepared more than 50 drugs that were licensed by the Ministry of Health. Between the years 1956-1971, it continued to serve as the Sumer Pharmacy. In this study, Sumer Pharmacy's Narcotic Drug Record Book that belongs to the period between 1954 and 1958, was examined. The information about names of doctors, drugs in prescriptions, their pharmaceutical forms and amount of the drug was considered. Related data were grouped according to the branches of doctors. There are 18 species of narcotic drugs in the Record Book. Drugs are in the forms of injection, powder and tablet. In those years, because of the great bothers in pharmaceutical raw materials, saccharin tablets were also added into the list of controlled drugs. Names of 5 internist, 4 general surgeon, 5 practitioner from a total of 37 doctors have been recorded. Vedat Ali Özkan, Minister of Health in subsequent periods; İclal Ataer, one of the first female pediatric doctors of Turkey; Arif Akşehirlioğlu, Head of Istanbul provincial directorate of Health in subsequent periods, and Turhan Nasimi Küçükusta, a dentist interested in poetry and literature are some of the these doctors.

ÖZET İÇTEN YANMALI MOTORDA FARKLI TÜRBÜLANS MODELLERİ İÇİN DAHA YOĞUN GRİD SİMÜLASYONLARI Son yıllarda, otomotiv tasarımcıları ses ve kirlilik yayılımını azaltmak ve buna karşılık motordan yüksek performans elde etmek ve yakıt tüketiminde ekonomi sağlamak amacı ile motor tasarımında önemli değişiklikler yapmaya girişmişlerdir. Bu bağlamda, bu konuda gelişme kaydedebilmek için motorlardaki akışın karakteristik özelliklerinin anlaşılması ve bununla sürekli karşılıklı etkileşim halinde bulunan yanma ürününün özelliklerinin belirlenmesi gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmalar deneysel metotlarla yapılabilmektedir. Ancak, deneysel metotlar çok uzun zaman almakta ve çok yüksek maliyetlere neden olmaktadır. Buna karşılık, bilgisayar yardımı ile yapılan simülasyon teknikleri, deneysel metotlara kıyasla birçok avantaja sahiptirler. Çünkü, simülasyon teknikleri daha düşük maliyet getirmekte ve uzun sürmeyip, birçok kez tekrarlanmaya elverişli oldukları için parametre kontrolünü kolaylaştırmaktadırlar. Ancak simülasyonlar türbülans modellerinin yetersizliği, nümerik metod yetersizlikleri v.b. gibi nedenlerden ötürü iyi sonuçlar vermemektedir. Biz bu tezde türbülans modellerinin yetersizliklerinden yola çıkacağız. Sonuç olarak bu tezde daha gelişmiş türbülans modelleri kullanılarak daha elverişli sonuçların elde edilmesi ve bu sonuçlardan faydalanılarak otomotiv tasarımcılarına yardımcı olunması amaçlanıyor. Temmuz, 2002 HANDE ALPEREN VI ABSTRACT FINE GRID SIMULATIONS OF AN IC ENGINE COMBUSTION CHAMBER WITH VARIOUS TURBULENCE MODELS During the last years, automotive engineers have been called upon to make significant changes in engine design in order to reduce the levels of pollutant and noise emission, and to increase the fuel economy and the performance of the engine. In this connection, it has become apparent that a more complete understanding of the characteristics of the flow evolution in engines and its interaction with the combustion process is needed. These works can obtain by empirical methods. But these techniques take too much time. And they have high cost limitations. But computer simulations have better characteristics than the empirical methods. Because computational methods offer a cost-effective and practical means for a more complete knowledge of in cylinder flow processes and the effects of key controlling parameters. Simulations don't give excellent results everytime because of the insufficiency of turbulence. Therefore, there seems to be need to develop more advanced turbulence models for excellent results. Finally, in this thesis we want to get better results when the new turbulence models were developed and we want to help to the automotive designers. There are two different simulations in this thesis. First one, simulations of free turbulent shear layers and second one simulation of a model engine. Because in the simulation engine, there is an annular jet flow during intake stroke through the valves, we want to simulate this annular jet. But this is a complex jet simulation. In this connection firstly, we simulate less complex jets like plane jet, round jet and plane far wake than annular jet simulation. In this thesis, Chapter 1 presents the approches about turbulence problems. Chapter 2 presents a review of previous theoretical and experimental studies of flows in engines. vuIn Chapter 3, the differential equations governing the flow in piston-cylinder are presented. Chapter 4, presents the turbulence models. Chapter 5 is concerned with the discretization of the differential equations. In Chapter 6, applications of the k-s-T model and k-e model to free shear flows are introduced in order to validate and test the model in experimentally well documented classes of flow which are fairly simple. Chapter 7 is concerned with the prediction and comparison with measurement of the mean flow and turbulence characteristics in a flat-piston, central valve, axisymmetric model engine that operates at different compression ratios. An Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) simulation program is used to predict the in- cylinder flow characteristics. Two cases are tested. Comparisons are made with the experimental data where available and with the k-E turbulence models against the k-s-x model to present their relative accuracy. Chapter 8, presents the conclusions. Coaches are one of the leading people who have a role in athletes’ success. Physical and physiological characteristics of many elite athletes are close to each other. The most important psychological factor as the distinguishing element bringing success is the coaches’ behavioral approaches to their athletes. It is important to find out the behavioural styles of the coaches of athletes who are representing their countries in international organizations and who are showing top level performance in increasing their countries’ success. In this sense, the purpose of this study is to analyze the coaching behaviour styles of the coaches of snowboard cross athletes representing their countries in the world cup. The study is a descriptive study in the model of survey. 3-item personal information form developed by the researcher and Coaching Behaviour Scale for Sport-CBS-S consisting of 7 factors and 47 items were used as data collection tool. The scale was given to 68 of 97 athletes competing for different countries in Snowboard Cross World Cup that was held in Erzurum/ Turkey in January 2018. Percentage, frequency, mean and average values were used in the analysis of data. Various difference tests were used to find out the differences between variables. 24 female and 44 male athletes participated in the study. Average age of the athletes was found as 25, 16±4, 53. No significant difference was found in terms of the variables of age, gender and the continent athletes participated from and it was found that athletes assessed the positive behavioural styles of coaches in very high levels (6,98±1,21), while they assessed their negative coaching behaviours in very low levels (1,08±0,14). According to the results obtained, it is recommended for behavioural styles of coaches assessed within the context of similar researches to be applied to other sport branches. © 2019 by authors, all rights reserved.

Emisyon mevzuatının giderek daha katı hale gelmesi, fosil kaynaklarının azalması ve CO2 emisyonunun neden olduğu sera etkisinin artmasıyla üreticiler, motorun performansından ödün vermeden emisyon yönetmeliklerine uymanın yeni yollarını araştırıyorlar.Bu tez çalışması, 2.0 L Turboşarjlı Dizel Motorun Sayısal modelinin (Sıfır / Tek Boyutlu Model) geliştirilmesini ve daha sonra sayısal modeldeki sıkıştırma oranının değiştirilmesinin etkilerinin incelenmesini içermektedir. Bu çalışma, motorun farklı çalışma koşullarında Sıkıştırma Oranlarının etkisini belirlemede bir çerçeve sağlamıştır. Sayısal bir model üzerinde bulunan Değişken Sıkıştırma Oranı teknolojisi çalışması çok uygun maliyetli ve zaman kazandırıcı olduğunu kanıtlamış ve sayısal modellerin geliştirme aşamasında motorların farklı parametrelerini incelemek için kullanılabileceği gerçeğini doğrulamıştır.Sıkıştırma Oranındaki bir artışın ana etkisinin, beklendiği gibi olduğu, düşük motor hızı ve düşük yük bölgelerinde daha büyük bir etkiye sahip olan, Frene Özgü Yakıt Tüketiminde düşüş ve Termal Verimlilikte bir artış olduğu bulunmuştur. Değişken Sıkıştırma Oranı teknolojisinin motorda kullanılabileceğini varsayarsak, bu çalışma motor haritasının etrafındaki Sıkıştırma Oranlarının en iyi kombinasyonunu bulmuştur ve bu da motorun emisyonları ve performansı arasında en iyi dengeyi sağlamıştır. Bu çalışma, Değişken Sıkıştırma Oranı teknolojisinin, motorda uygulandığında sadece motor emisyonlarını azaltmakla kalmayıp, uzun mesafeli yolculuklarda son kullanıcı için rölanti veya seyir esnasında daha ekonomik yakıt tüketim değerlerine geçme seçeneği olarak verilebileceği gerçeğini de doğrulamaktadır.--------------------With emission legislation becoming ever more stringent, declining fossil resources and an increase in greenhouse effect caused by CO2 emissions, manufacturers are exploring new ways to match the emissions regulations without compromising on the performance of the engine.This thesis work included developing of Numerical model (Zero/One Dimensional Model) of a 2.0 L Turbocharged Diesel Engine and then study the effects of changing its compression ratio in the numerical model. This study gave a framework in determining the effect of Compression Ratios in different operational conditions of the engine. The study of Variable Compression Ratio technology on a numerical model proved to be very cost-effective, time saving and validated the fact that numerical models can be used to study different parameters of the engines during the development stage.The main effect of an increase in Compression Ratio, was found to be as expected, a decrease in Brake Specific Fuel Consumption and an increase in Thermal Efficiency with a greater impact in the low engine speed and low load regions. Assuming, that the Variable Compression Ratio technology can be utilized in the engine, this work found the best combination of Compression Ratios around the engine map, giving a best fit of trade-offs between the emissions and performance of the engine. This study also validates the fact that Variable Compression Ratio technology, if implemented in the engine could not only reduce emissions of the engine but can be given as an option to the end-user to switch to more economic fuel consumption values during idling or cruising at long distant journeys.

ÖZETV-16 AĞIR HİZMET DİZEL MOTORUNDA PİSTON YÜZEY GEOMETRİSİNİN OPTİMİZASYONUİçten yanmalı motorların termodinamik performansını iyileştirmek için geçmiş yıllardan günümüze birçok yenilik uygulanmıştır. Günümüzdeki ticari dizel motorlardan istenen yüksek performansla birlikte düşük emisyon oranları motorların tasarımını gitgide zorlaştırmaktadır. Bu çalışmada direkt enjeksiyonlu sıkıştırma ateşlemeli V-16 ağır hizmet motoru üzerinde, piston yüzey geometrisi ve temel yakıt enjeksiyon parametlerini kullanarak, CFD yanma simülasyonları ve optimizasyon programı aracılığı ile motorun mevcut performansını koruyup daha düşük yakıt tüketimi sağlaması amaçlanmıştır. Bu çalışma esnasında optimizasyon programına BMEP ve PFP değerleri hedef değerler olarak tanımlandı. Optimizasyon girdisi olarak ise yakıt enjeksiyon basıncı, enjeksiyon başlangıç zamanı ve enjeksiyon süresi değerleri alt ve üst limit değerleri tanımlanarak sMOGA optimizasyon algoritmasında kullanıldı. Bu çalışma esnasında her bir CFD simülasyonun performans çıktıları ile NOx ve kurum sonuçlarıda elde edilerek optimizasyon esnasında tasarımlara ait emisyon değerinin değişimi incelenmiştir. Bu sayede optimizasyon sonucunda istenen hedef performans değerini elde etmiş birden çok piston yüzey tasarımı içinden en düşük emisyon değerine sahip olan tasarımın elde edilmesi sağlandı. --------------------ABSTRACTPISTON BOWL GEOMETRY OPTIMIZATION OVER A V-16 HEAVY DUTY DIESEL ENGİNEMany innovations have been applied from the past years to the present day in order to improve the thermodynamic performance of internal combustion engines. Today's high performance and low emission rate demands for commercial diesel engines make difficult to design engine process. In this study, it is aimed to maintaining the current performance of the engine and achieving lower fuel consumption relative to original design by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) combustion simulations and optimization on a V-16 heavy duty direct injection compression ignition diesel engine.During this study, break mean effective pressure (BMEP) and peak firing pressure (PFP) values were defined as target values in the optimization program. As the optimization input, piston bowl geometry parameters, fuel injection pressure, start of injection time and injection duration values were used in the surrogate multi objective genetic algorithm (sMOGA) by defining lower and upper limit values.During optimization, NOx and soot results were evaluated as performance outputs of each CFD simulation and the variation of the emission values of the designs was investigated during the optimization. Thus, as a result of optimization, the design with the lowest emission value was obtained from multiple piston bowl designs which have achieved the desired target performance value.

ÖZET (Seçiçi İndirgeyici Katalistlerin Performansının Entegre Modelleme Yaklaşımıyla İncelenmesi)Dizel emisyon gazları partikül, karbon monoxide, NOx içeren çok sağlığa zararlı gazlardır. lBu çalışmanın amacı seçici indigeyici katalist sistemler icin birbiriyle entegre ve çok boyutlu bir modelleme geliştirebilmektir. Bu modelleme tekniği ile katalistlerde yüksek NOx çevrim verimi için gerekli emisyon tahminlerini yapabilecektir. Emisyon tahminin doğruluğunu arttırmak için egzoz sistemindeki 3 boyutlu bütün fiziksel etkiler detaylı bir çalışma ile modellenmiştir. Araştırmacılar farklı üre seçici indirgeyici katalist modellemeleri geliştirmektedir ancak modeller deposit oluşmasının emisyon üzerindeki etkilerini modelleyememektedir. Tezde emisyon taminleri 3 boyutlu sayısal çalışmaları sonucunda secici indirgeyici katalistlerindeki NH3 dağılımlarının bulunması ve üre-kristallerinin birikmesinin sıcaklık ve debiye bağlı haritalaştırılması sayesinde doğru olarak yapılamabilmektedir. Bu sayede daha gelişmiş üre kontrol stratejileri denenebilmekte, seçici indirgeyici katalist boyutlandırmaları ve kimyasal yükleme optimizasyon çalışmaları yapılırken egzoz sistem tasarımları iyileştirilebilmektedir.Seçiçi İndirgeyici Katalist modellemeleri çok sayıda fiziksel modelleme gerektiren karmaşık bir modeleme tekniğidir. Bu modelleme püskürtme, kimyasal modelleme, katı-sıvı arasındaki ısı transferi ve deposit modellemesi içermektedir. Bu fazla sayıda modelleme yaklaşımlarının farklı çalışmalar ile doğrulanması yapılmıştır. Literaturde bulunan temel çalışmalar ile kullandığımız modelleme teknikleri karşılaştırmaları yapılmıştır. Bu sayede geliştirilen modeller gerçek egzoz sisteminin modellenmesinde kullanılmış ve PIV sistemi ile akış ve parçacık doğrulanmaları yapılmıştır.Kurulmuş olan akışkanlar mekaniği laboratuvarımızdan egzoz sisteminin değişik yerlerini termo eleman, basınç ve NOx sensorleri monte edilerek alınan datalar ile sayısal modeli iyileştirilmiştir. Akışkanlar mekaniği laboratuvarı motordan çıkan sıcaklık, hava, NOx debisi simule edilen elektronik kontrol ünitesi ile birlikte çalışan, kontrollu test yapmamızı sağlayan bir laboratuvardır. Üre kristallerin modellemesi karmaşık olduğundan sadece sayısal modelleme teknikleri ile ürenin sistemde birikmesi ve yapısının ne olduğunu tahmin etmek mümkün değildir. Sayısal modellemesi ile sadece ürenin nerede birikebileceği tahmini yapılabilmektedir. Gerçek egzoz sistemine üre injektörünün bulunduğu yerden endoscope ile alınan görüntülerden görüntü işleme teknikleri ile ürenin ne kadar biriktiğinin tahmini yapılabilmektedir. Bu datadan daha sonra üre kristallerinin birikme haritası çıkarılabilmektedir. Üre kristalleri akışkanlar mekaniği laboratuvarında endoscope, quartz camlar ve sayısal ile detaylı incelendikten sonra oluşturulan harita ile 1 boyutlu emisyon modeline verilecek olan datalar düzeltilerek verilmektedir. 1 boyutlu emisyon modeli sayısal gelen düzgün olmayan NH3 dağılımları ve ile emisyon sonuçlarını bulabilmektedir. Bu sonuçlar motordan gelen emisyon sonuçları ile karşılaştırılmıştır.ABSTRACT (An Integrated Modeling Approach to Investigate Performance of Selective Reduction Catalyst)The emissions of the diesel engines consist of various harmful exhaust gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), particulate matter (PM), hydrocarbon (HC), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). Several technologies have been developed to reduce diesel emissions especially NOx reduction systems in last decades. The most promising NOx emission reduction technologies are exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system to reduce peak cylinder temperature that reduces NOx form caused by combustion and active selective catalyst reduction (SCR) system using reducing agent such as urea-water-solution for exhaust aftertreatment system.Recent years many different emission reduction application strategies were developed. One of the challenging approach to remove the EGR from engine and design the high NOx conversion efficiency SCR with reducing agent system. Thus the comprehensive SCR modeling approach is required to design compact aftertreatment systems that meet NOx emission legistration level. In the first stage, To develop computational fluid dynamic (CFD) methodology with conjugate heat transfer, spray, deposit and chemical reaction modeling techniques is fundamental work for methodology development. Result of this methology include required parameters to optimize SCR system design.In the second stage 1D emission prediction tool is developed whether the design meet the emission legistlation target. This emission prediction tool should be fast and accurate method with 3D simulation and deposit effect on the SCR system. Before freezing the design of SCR system, emission level of design should be predictable whether further design optimizations or advanced SCR technologies are required. 1D emission tool can predict to different SCR catalyst sizing, and different aftertreatment system layout.Since deposit has a complex phenomogical physics for prediction, in this dissertation deposit modeling is developed in 3D CFD. To predict more accurate deposit prediction, image processing tool was developed in Matlab which uses endoscop camera deposit images. The calculated mass of deposit from matlab was correlated with deposit studies in Flow Test Bench. These results were developed to deposit map which is function of temperature and mass flow rate over all operating conditions by using image processing tool. The main objective of this work is to develop selective catalyst reduction CFD modeling with correction of the deposit map technique to focus on ammonia distribution at the SCR inlet and to observe its influence over NOx reduction process.

ÖZETBİR DİZEL MOTORUN YANMA KARAKTERİSTİKLERİNE BİYOGAZ ETKİSİNİN DENEYSEL İNCELENMESİ VE ÇOK BOYUTLU MODELLENMESİ Buji ateşlemeli LPG ve CNG yakıtlı motorlara alternatif olarak, bu projede, on binlerce model çalışmasından sonra sıkıştırma ile ateşlemeli biyogaz yakıtlı dizel motor tasarımı elde edilmiştir. Biyogaz yakıtı, CNG ve LPG gaz yakıtlara göre ülkemizde üretilmesinden dolayı çok ekonomiktir. Ayrıca biyogaz yüksek oktan sayısı nedeniyle dizel motorlarda kullanılmaya oldukça elverişlidir. Bu çalışmada, Türkiye’de üretilen sıkıştırılmış biyogaz (CBG) yakıtını kullanan, yakıt sarfiyatı azaltılmış, çevreci yeni bir çift yakıtlı dizel motor tasarlanmıştır. Optimizasyon çalışması esnasında 1B ve emme ve egzoz manifoldları dahil 3B HAD simülasyonları kullanılmıştır. Bu projede tasarlanan çift yakıtlı dizel motor ile özellikle motor silindirlerinde hiçbir yapısal değişiklik yapmadan CBG yakıtının kullanılması maliyetleri oldukça düşürmektedir. Tasarım aşamasında bir boyutlu (1B), üç boyutlu (3B) hesaplamalı akışkanlar dinamiği (HAD) yazılımları ve çok amaçlı optimizasyon yazılımı eş zamanlı olarak kullanılmıştır. Çift yakıtlı dizel motor modellemesinde biyogaz ve dizel yakıtı ayrıca bir kod yazılarak sürükleyici yakıt olarak tanımlanmıştır. Optimizasyon çalışmasında uygun motor çalışma parametrelerini elde etmek amacıyla, CBG ve pilot dizel yakıt oranları, motor hızı, ateşleme zamanı, sıkıştırma oranı ve subap zamanlamaları farklı motor yüklerinde değişken olarak tanımlanarak yaklaşık 20000 model elde edilmiştir. HAD ile elde edilen sonuçlar test sisteminde doğrulanmıştır. Yeni tasarım sıkıştırılmış CBG dizel motor ile, tüm motor yüklerinde tek yakıtlı dizel motorlara göre oldukça düşük NOx emisyon değerleri elde edilmiştir. Ayrıca NOx ve SOOT emisyonlarının azaltılmasında CBG dizel motor en iyi performansı sağlamıştır. Bu çalışma, Marmara Üniversitesi BAPKO Birimi tarafından FEN-C-DRP-101012-0327 proje kapsamında desteklenmiştir.ABSTRACTEXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION AND MULTIDIMENSIONAL MODELING OF BIOGAS EFFECTS ON THE DIESEL ENGINE COMBUSTION CHARACTERISTICSAs an alternative to LPG and CNG fueled SI engines, in this study, CBG fueled CI engine design was obtained after thousands model study. Biogas fuel is considerably economic due to the home product fuel compared to that of CNG and LPG fuels. In addition, due to the higher-octane rate, biogas is considerably adaptable for diesel engines. In this study, a new ecological dual fuel diesel engine with low fuel consumption and Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) produced in Turkey has been designed. 1D and full geometry 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations including intake and exhaust ports were used in optimization process. Usage of CBG fuel in new designed CBG engine without any constructive change in cylinder will considerably decrease the cost. During the engine design, one dimensional (1D), three dimensional (3D) CFD codes and multi-objective optimization code were employed by coupling codes. CBG and diesel fuels were defined as leading reactants using user defined code in dual fuel diesel engine modeling. In optimization study, CBG and diesel mass flow rates, start of pilot diesel fuel injection, compression ratio, valve timing and engine speed were defined as input variables in different engine loads and evaluated about 20000 cases to define the proper operating conditions. Obtained CFD results were validated on engine test system. With this new design CBG diesel engine, significantly lower NOx emissions were emitted under dual-fuel operation for all cases compared to single-fuel mode at all engine load conditions. Moreover, CBG diesel engine provided superior performance in reductions of NOx and SOOT emissions. Bu araştırmaların önemi bu süreçlerin sahip olduğu sıfır civari partikül ve düşük emisyon seviyelerinden kaynaklanmaktadır. Uluslarası kurallar ise üreticileri NOx seviyelerini düşürmeye zorlamaktadır. Bu kurallar otomobil üreticileri ve bu sanayiye motor tedarik eden firmaları daha çevreci ve temiz motorlar üretmeye zorlamaktadır. Bu konuda emisyon seviyelerini ve kirletici miktarını sınırların altına indirecek birçok çalışma yapılmaktadır. Payri vd. direk enjeksiyonlu dizel motorlarda emiş ve sıkıştırma durumlarında, akış bölgesi için 3B akış analizi yaparak durumu incelemişlerdir. Chang vd. ise tek boyutlu model üzerinde nümerik çözüm yaparak geleceğin temiz ve çevreci teknolojisi olan HYY motorları incelemişlerdir. Bu tez aşamasında ise 6 silindirli turbo beslemeli direk yakıt püskürtmeli Ecotorq motor Ford - Otosan A.Ş tarafından incelenmiş ve gücün arttırılması ve emisyonların düşürülmesi planlanmıştır. Emisyon ve performans üzerinde etkili parametreler seçilmiş ve nümerik olarak incelenmiştir. Bir diğer amaç ise etkili devir bölgesinde yakıt tüketimi, parçacık ve emisyonları düşürürken gücü arttırabilmektir. Ayrıca parametreleri değiştirilen motorun Euro V standardına uygun olmasıda önemli bir parametredir.Tez kapsamında literatürdeki nümerik çalışmaların önemli bir kısmı gerçekleştirilmiş ve literatüre uygun sonuçlar elde edilmiştir., New combustion processes focused on clean diesel combustion are investigated for their potential to achieve near zero particulate and NOx emissions. Their main drawbacks are increased level of unburned hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions, combustion control at high load and limited operating range and power output. According to global regulations for NOx emission and particulate matter levels must be reduced by manufacturer. Due to these regulations, companies which design engines for automotive industry, focused on to produce clean and environment friendly products. So that design is the most important step in production cycle. There are lots of studies on diesel engine to improving the performance and reduce the pollutant to under the allowed level which is formed by the governments and organizations. Chang at al. worked on the 1D simulation of a HCCI engine obtain better burn characteristic for future clean and economical passenger vehicle applications. In this thesis a nine liters six cylinder Direct Injection (DI) –Homogenous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) Turbo Charged Diesel engine which is produced and planned to increase the power and improve the performance by Ford - Otosan A.Ş , is examined .The parameters that determine the performance, efficiency and emissions of the engine is studied on computations. ÖZETDİNAMİK MESHLEME METODUYLA TEK SİLİNDİRLİ İÇTEN YANMALI MOTORUN SOĞUK AKIŞ ÖZELLİĞİNİN SAYISAL MODELLENMESİ Son yıllarda 3 boyutlu hesaplamalı akışkanlar dinamiği (HAD) simulasyonları bilgisayar teklonolojilerinin gelişmesi ile birlikte içten yanmalı motorların geliştirilmesinde çok önemli rol oynamaktadır. Bilgisayarların donanım kabiliyetlerinin ve HAD paket programlarının gelişmesiyle birlikte motor tasarım ve uygulamalarında 3 boyutlu akış simulasyonunun önemi daha da artmıştır.HAD (hesaplamalı akışkanlar dinamiği) çok karmaşık mühendislik geometrilerindeki akış dinamiğinin yeterli doğruluk ve kabul edilebilir hesaplama maliyetleri içinde tahmin edilebilmesine olanak sağlamaktadır. Bu programlar karmaşık ve düzensiz çözüm ağları için yüksek seviye hassasiyet gerektiren ve en etkin sayısal metodolojilere sahip bir çözücü sunmaktadır. Bu çözücü, mühendislik tasarımı ve geliştirme süreçleri için aranan hızlı, etkin ve sağlam bir özellik içerir. Özellikle doğrulukları ve simulasyon zamanındaki iyileştirmeleri kullanabilmek çok etkili olmuştur. Doğruluğu etkileyen 2 önemli neden vardır. Bunlar sayısal model/methodun doğruluğu ile matematik modelin uygunluğudur.İçten yanmalı motor silindirlerindeki akışın zamana bağımlı, üç boyutlu ve hareketli sınır koşullarına sahip olması nedeniyle sayısal veya deneysel olarak incelenmesi oldukça zordur. Bunun yanında, motor çevrimlerinde akış çoğunlukla türbülanslıdır. Bu yüzden, analiz yapmak akışın düzenli olduğu durumlardan daha zordur.STAR-CD programındaki hareketli ağ örgüsü modellenen şeklin sınırlarının zamana göre değiştiği akışkan hareketini modeller. Her zaman adımında STAR-CD tarafından hacim mesh otomatik olarak yeniden hesaplanır. Dinamik ağ örgüsünü kullanmak için başlangıc bir hacim ağ örgüsü ile hareketli sınırların tanımlanması gerekmektedir.Bu çalışmada basit bir kompresor geometrisi ile silindiri temsil eden duvardan oluşan basitleştirilmiş 2 boyutlu geometri kullanıldı. Simulasyon aksi simetrik geometride üst ölü noktadan başlayarak alt ölü noktaya kadar gerçekleştirildi. Modeller düz yüzeyli piston için farklı iki sıkıştırma oranındaki geometrilerden oluşturuldu. Modellerde RNG ve k- türbülans modelleri kullanıldı. Ayrıca, her iki modelden elde edilen sonuçlar Lazer Doppler Anemometre ile elde edilmiş deneysel sonuçlarla karşılaştırıldı. Sonuçta, turbülans modelinin karşılaştırma yapılan çoğu noktada RNG turbulans k- turbülans modelinden daha iyi ortalama eksenel hız ve türbülans çalkantı profilleri verdiği gözlendi.ABSTRACTCOMPUTATIONAL MODELING OF COLD FLOW CHARACTERISTICS OF A SINGLE CYLINDER INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE USING THE DYNAMIC MOVING MESH With the advancement of computer technologies and understanding basic phenomena, 3-D CFD simulation has played more and more important role in the internal combustion (IC) engine development. The importance of the numerical simulation of 3-dimensional flow phenomena in engine design and applications has increased due to the recent improvements of the computer hardware capacities as well as the simultaneous improvement of the CFD/CAE-tools.The available CFD codes enable to predict the fluid dynamic processes even in complex geometries to a sufficient degree of accuracy and at acceptable computational costs.Two important aspects of a 3-D simulation are the accuracy and turn-over time of simulation. The accuracy is affected by two parts. One is numerical model/method accuracy. Another one is the computational fidelity. Fluid flow within internal combustion engine cylinders is extremely complex to analyse numerically or experimentally due to having time-dependent and three dimensional charecteristics with moving boundaries. Moreover, the flow is mostly turbulent in engine cycles, so, making analysis is very difficult, than if it were laminar flow.The dynamic mesh model in Star-cd can be used to model flows where the shape of the domain is changing with time due to motion on the domain boundaries. The update of the volume mesh is handled automatically by Star-cd at each time step based on the new positions of the boundaries. To use the dynamic mesh model, you need to provide a starting volume mesh and the description of the motion of any moving zones in the model.For this work a simplified 2D geometry will be used, consisting of a simple compressor geometry, the bottom wall of which represents the piston. Simulation performed starting from TDC position (i.e. CA =0 0) to the end of the compression stroke (i.e. CA=3600) in an axsymmetry geometry. These models is created with two different compression ratios with flat-top piston cases. RNG and k-e turbulence models are used for these models. Results of both models were also compared with the Laser Doppler Anemometry measurements. . It was obtained that the RNG turbulence model produced better axial mean velocity and turbulence intensity profiles in most of the locations than did k-e model.

Termodinamik modeller de tek ve çok bölgeli olarak iki alt gruba ayrılabilir. Termodinamik modeller uzun yıllar, var olan motorların geliştirilmesine ve yeni motorların tasarımına yardımcı olmuştur. Bu tür modeller henüz yaygınca kullanılmamasına rağmen yeterli sonuçlar sağlamaktadır. Bununla birlikte, birçok kirletici emisyonuna karşı hükümet yasalarının ve ham petrolün fiyatındaki yükselişin oluşturduğu şu anki baskı, daha temiz ve daha fazla enerji tasarruflu motor üretimi için zorlayıcı bir etki oluşturmaktadır. Bu sebeplerden dolayı modellemenin önemi artmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, tek boyutlu, üç boyutlu ve dinamik modeller olmak üzere farklı motor modelindeki akış karakteristikleri nümerik olarak STAR-CD programı kullanılarak incelenmiştir. STAR-CD programı motorlar içerisindeki akış karakteristiklerini modellemek için sonlu hacimler metodunu kullanmaktadır. STAR-CD program uses finite volume method in order to model the flow and combustion inside the engine. The combustion results that obtained for one engine geometry were used to compare each other. Results of combustion models show good agreement with results in literature.

Homojen dolgulu sıkıştırma ateşlemeli (HCCI) kavramı, düşük NOx, is emisyonları ve yüksek verimlilik sebebiyle özellikle dizel motorlar için potansiyel bir yanma kavramına sahiptir. Sıkıştırma zamanı sırasındaki erken doğrudan püskürtme, HCCI konsepti içindeki NADITM kavramı ile bir seçenektir. Bu ise silindir içi yoğunluğun azalması sebebiyle cidara çarpma riskinin artması anlamına gelir. Two different nozzles are considered: two different nozzles with 60o and 80o spray cone angles in according to NADITM concept.The program of work described in this thesis represents an exploration of the fundamentals of diesel combustion to achieve ultra-low engine-out emissions. The objectives were firstly an existing design were explored and then the modification were suggested according to the result of single cylinder simulation of PPCI mode to establish operating conditions and configuration that offer the potential to meet future emissions legislation, and secondly to develop an improved understanding of these requirements on combustion characteristics.The initial part of the study demonstrated that the validity of conducting investigations on a single-cylinder engine by using 1D thermodynamic simulation and formed a solid baseline for following studies. In the second part it was examined that the effects of in-cylinder flow capabilities especially cold flow with respect to the different turbulence models. In the third part it was investigated that the impact of injection timing that led to significant NOx reductions. Partially premixed-charge combustion operation was applied to new bowl design to demonstrate NOx, CO and soot emissions benefits but also the trade-off with fuel consumption and UHC emissions. Finally, a CO, soot and NOx formation prediction is suggested for PPCI combustion. 161

ÖZETAYNI EKSENLİ KONİ İLAVELİ JET AKIŞIN SAYISAL AKIŞKANLAR DİNAMİĞİ (SAD) İLE ÇÖZÜMÜ Anahtar Kelimeler: Sayısal Akışkanlar Dinamiği, Dairesel Jet akışı, Hava Tüneli, Türbülans Modelleri, Hız profili, Hız Dağılımları, Jet Yayılma Oranı. Bu çalışmada; farklı akış hızlarında ve farklı tiplerde sayısal akışkanlar dinamiği (SAD) ile çözümü yapılan aynı eksenli koni ilaveli jet akış sonuçları, deneysel verilerle ayrıntılı olarak karşılaştırılarak yorumlanmıştır. Bu amaçla deneysel çalışma sonuçlarının baz alındığı hava tünelinin deney odası modellenmiştir. Daha hassas sonuçların elde edilebilmesi için deney odasının sadece çeyrek kısmı modellenmiştir. Prototipi baz alınarak modellenen deney odasının giriş kesiti 320×320 mm2 , çıkış kesiti 336×336 mm2 ve uzunluğu 750 mm’dir. Ayrıca baz alınan deneysel çalışmada da bulunan, dairesel jet akışının sağlanması için 8mm çapında jet boru elemanı ile 60 eğime sahip konik 210mm uzunluğunda elemanlar modellenerek akış çeşitliliği sağlanmıştır. Bu iki elemanın ve deney odasının girişlerinin açık veya kapalı olması ile 4 farklı kategoride 0 (m/s), 10 (m/s) ve 20 (m/s) akış hızlarında olmak üzere toplamda 9 tip analiz yapılmıştır. Her bir analiz 4 farklı mesafedeki istasyonlardan ölçümler alınarak ayrıca değerlendirilmiştir. Sayısal analizler sonlu hacimler yöntemini kullanan bir çözücü program vasıtasıyla çözülmüş olup, bu program vasıtasıyla deneysel verilere denk noktaların ölçümleri alınmıştır. In this study, predictions of flow with in coaxial jets with a conical attachment have been performed for various jet velocities by using CFD technics and the results were compared in detail with the experimental data. For this purpose, a quarter of the wind tunnel test room were modelled due to geometrical symmetry. The length of the test section is 750 mm and it’s inlet sectional area is 320×320 mm2 and outlet sectional area is 336×336 mm2. The analysis were used a conical diffuser with an angle of 60 and 210mm in length. The circular jet flow was provided by using a steel pipe of 210 mm length and 8 mm diameter. Experiments were performed for four different categories and nine different types depending an weather there was an auxilary flow or not.There wre three auxilary flow velocities of the tunnel of zero, 10 m/s and 20 m/s.Results were processed at at four different stations at the downstream of the jet exit for comparision purposes with the experimental data. Simulation of the flow have been performed by FLUENT, CFD software. FLUENT employ finite volume method for the solution of momentum, energy, continuity and turbulence equations. In addition, performance of various turbulence models such as “k-e”, “RNG k-e”,, “Realizable k-e”, and “RSM” were compared with the above mentromed experimental cases.June,2006

ÖZET DİZEL MOTORLARINDA ÇEŞİTLİ PİSTON DİZAYNLARI İÇİN SİLİNDİR İÇİ AKIŞ SİMULASYONU VE GRİD TESTLERİ Bu çalışma merkezi valfli, eksenel simetrik bir motor modelinde üç durum için ana akış ve türbülans karakteristikleri tahminlerini içermektedir. Ayrıca bu tahminlerin ölçümlerle karşılaştırılmasını içermektedir. Birinci durum sıkıştırma oranı 3.5 olan pistona, ikinci durum sıkıştırma oram 6.7 olan pistona, üçüncü durum çanaklı piston konfigürasyonuna sahiptir. Bu çalışmada bu üç durum için yüksek grid sayısında (10000) ks ve ksx türbülans modellerinin karşılaştırmasını yapmak amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmanın deneysel verilerle karşılaştırılması yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak her iki modelde de ana akış hızı ve normalize edilmiş türbülans şiddetinde deneysel datalarla makul bir uygunluk elde edilmiştir. Bu durum her üç model için de geçerlidir. Bununla beraber kst modeli birçok yerde deneysel sonuçlara ks modelinden daha iyi uygunluk göstermiştir. İkinci durumun birinci duruma göre daha kuvvetli bir akışa ve yüksek türbülans seviyesine sahip olduğu görülmüştür. Üçüncü durumda ise pistonda silindirik çanak bulunmasının etkisi incelenmiştir. Burada emme boyunca çanağın akış karakteristiği üzerindeki etkisinin ihmal edilebilir olduğu görülmüştür. Sıkışma süresince, sıkıştırmanın ortasına kadar çanaktaki akış neredeyse tek boyutlu gibi davranmıştır. Temmuz, 2002 Banu Önen IV ff* ABSTRACT GRID INDEPENDENCY TESTS FOR DIESEL ENGINE COMBUSTION CHAMBER WITH BOWL IN PISTON This study is concerned with prediction and comparison with measurement of the mean flow and turbulence characteristics in a central valve, axisymmetric model engine for three cases. Case I has a flat top piston with compression ratio 3.5, Case II has a flat top piston with compression ratio 6.7 and Case III has bowl in piston configuration. The purpose of the study is to make comparison between two turbulence models ks and ksx for these three cases at high grid numbers (10000). The results show that moderate agreement is obtained with the experimental data for mean flow velocities and normalised turbulence intensities for both turbulence models for all cases. However ksx model gives better predictions in most of the locations where compression is made with the experimental data than ks model. It was found that introduction of a piston with a cylindrical bowl has negligible effect on the mean and turbulence characteristics of the flow through intake stroke. During compression stroke the flow within the bowl is almost one dimensional until the mid-compression. There after squish flow from above the piston-crown creates, inside the bowl, a recirculation zone whose strength is predicted by the ksx model better than ks model. July, 2002 Banu Önen 132
