1. Evolving academic and research partnerships in global health: a capacity-building partnership to assess primary healthcare in the Philippines

Abstract: Building fair, equitable, and beneficial partnerships between institutions collaborating in research in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) and high-income countries (HIC) has become an integral part of research capacity building in global health in recent years. In this paper, we offer an example of an academic collaboration between the University of California Los Angeles, Center for Health Policy and Research (UCLA CHPR) and the University of Philippines, Manila, College of Public Health (UPM CPH) that sought to build an equitable partnership between research institutions. The partnership was built on a project to build capacity for research and produce data for policy action for the prevention and care of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through primary healthcare in the Philippines. The specific objectives of the project were to: (1) locally adapt the Primary Care Assessment Tool for the Philippines and use the adapted tool to measure facility-level primary care delivery, (2) conduct focus group discussions (FGDs) to gather qualitative observations regarding primary care readiness and capacity, and (3) conduct a comprehensive population-based health survey among adults on NCDs and prior healthcare experience. We describe here the progression of the partnership between these institutions to carry out the project and the elements that helped build a stronger connection between the institutions, such as mutual goal setting, cultural bridging, collaborative teams, and capacity building. This example, which can be used as a model depicting new directionality and opportunities for LMIC-HIC academic partnerships, was written based on the review of shared project documents, including study protocols, and written and oral communications with the project team members, including the primary investigators. The innovation of this partnership includes: LMIC-initiated project need identification, LMIC-based funding allocation, a capacity-building role of the HIC institution, and the expansion of scope through jointly offered courses on global health.

2. Incoherent electronic band states in Mn substituted BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$

Abstract: Chemical substitution is commonly used to explore new ground states in materials, yet the role of disorder is often overlooked. In Mn-substituted BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ (MnBFA), superconductivity (SC) is absent, despite being observed for nominal hole-doped phases. Instead, a glassy magnetic phase emerges, associated with the $S=5/2$ Mn local spins. In this work, we present a comprehensive investigation of the electronic structure of MnBFA using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). We find that Mn causes electron pockets to shrink, disrupting the nesting condition in MnBFA. Notably, we propose that electronic disorder, along with magnetic scattering, primarily contributes to suppressing the itinerant magnetic order in MnBFA. This finding connects the MnBFA electronic band structure properties to the glassy magnetic behavior observed in these materials and suggests that SC is absent because of the collective magnetic impurity behavior that scatters the Fe-derived excitations. Moreover, we suggest that Mn tunes MnBFA to a phase in between the correlated metal in BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ and the Hund insulator phase in BaMn$_{2}$As$_{2}$., Comment: main 7 pages, 3 figures + supp 5 pages, 5 figures

4. 3D In Vitro Blood-Brain-Barrier Model for Investigating Barrier Insults

Abstract: Blood-brain-barrier (BBB) disruption has been associated with a variety of central-nervous-system diseases. In vitro BBB models enable to investigate how the barrier reacts to external injury events, commonly referred to as insults. Here, a human-cell-based BBB platform with integrated, transparent electrodes to monitor barrier tightness in real time at high resolution is presented. The BBB model includes human cerebral endothelial cells and primary pericytes and astrocytes in a 3D arrangement within a pump-free, open-microfluidic platform. With this platform, this study demonstrates that oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD), which mimics the characteristics of an ischemic insult, induces a rapid remodeling of the cellular actin structures and subsequent morphological changes in the endothelial cells. High-resolution live imaging shows the formation of large actin stress-fiber bundles in the endothelial layer during OGD application, which ultimately leads to cell shrinkage and barrier breakage. Simultaneous electrical measurements evidence a rapid decrease of the barrier electrical resistance before the appearance of stress fibers, which indicates that the barrier function is compromised already before the appearance of drastic morphological changes. 5. Canagliflozin impairs T cell effector function via metabolic suppression in autoimmunity

Abstract: Augmented T cell function leading to host damage in autoimmunity is supported by metabolic dysregulation, making targeting immunometabolism an attractive therapeutic avenue. Canagliflozin, a type 2 diabetes drug, is a sodium glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor with known off-target effects on glutamate dehydrogenase and complex I. However, the effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on human T cell function have not been extensively explored. Here, we show that canagliflozin-treated T cells are compromised in their ability to activate, proliferate, and initiate effector functions. Canagliflozin inhibits T cell receptor signaling, impacting on ERK and mTORC1 activity, concomitantly associated with reduced c-Myc. Compromised c-Myc levels were encapsulated by a failure to engage translational machinery resulting in impaired metabolic protein and solute carrier production among others. Importantly, canagliflozin-treated T cells derived from patients with autoimmune disorders impaired their effector function. Taken together, our work highlights a potential therapeutic avenue for repurposing canagliflozin as an intervention for T cell-mediated autoimmunity.

Abstract: Objectives Biological variation data (BV) can be used for different applications, but this depends on the availability of robust and relevant BV data. In this study, we aimed to summarize and appraise BV studies for tumor markers, to examine the influence of study population characteristics and concentrations on BV estimates and to discuss the applicability of BV data for tumor markers in clinical practice. Methods Studies reporting BV data for tumor markers related to gastrointestinal, prostate, breast, ovarian, haematological, lung, and dermatological cancers were identified by a systematic literature search. Relevant studies were evaluated by the Biological Variation Data Critical Appraisal Checklist (BIVAC) and meta-analyses were performed for BIVAC compliant studies to deliver global estimates of within-subject (CVI) and between-subject (CVG) BV with 95% CI. Results The systematic review identified 49 studies delivering results for 22 tumor markers; four papers received BIVAC grade A, 3 B, 27 C and 15 D. Out of these, 29 CVI and 29 CVG estimates met the criteria to be included in the meta-analysis. Robust data are lacking to conclude on the relationship between BV and different disease states and tumor marker concentrations. Conclusions This review identifies a lack of high-quality BV studies for many tumor markers and a need for delivery of BIVAC compliant studies, including in different disease states and tumor marker concentrations. As of yet, the state-of-the-art may still be the most appropriate model to establish analytical performance specifications for the majority of tumor markers.

Abstract: Funder: Oncode Institute, The precise regulation of RNA Polymerase II (Pol II) transcription after genotoxic stress is crucial for proper execution of the DNA damage-induced stress response. While stalling of Pol II on transcription-blocking lesions (TBLs) blocks transcript elongation and initiates DNA repair in cis, TBLs additionally elicit a response in trans that regulates transcription genome-wide. Here we uncover that, after an initial elongation block in cis, TBLs trigger the genome-wide VCP-mediated proteasomal degradation of promoter-bound, P-Ser5-modified Pol II in trans. This degradation is mechanistically distinct from processing of TBL-stalled Pol II, is signaled via GSK3, and contributes to the TBL-induced transcription block, even in transcription-coupled repair-deficient cells. Thus, our data reveal the targeted degradation of promoter-bound Pol II as a critical pathway that allows cells to cope with DNA damage-induced transcription stress and enables the genome-wide adaptation of transcription to genotoxic stress.

10. Data-driven emotional body language generation for social robotics

Abstract: In social robotics, endowing humanoid robots with the ability to generate bodily expressions of affect can improve human-robot interaction and collaboration, since humans attribute, and perhaps subconsciously anticipate, such traces to perceive an agent as engaging, trustworthy, and socially present. Robotic emotional body language needs to be believable, nuanced and relevant to the context. We implemented a deep learning data-driven framework that learns from a few hand-designed robotic bodily expressions and can generate numerous new ones of similar believability and lifelikeness. The framework uses the Conditional Variational Autoencoder model and a sampling approach based on the geometric properties of the model's latent space to condition the generative process on targeted levels of valence and arousal. The evaluation study found that the anthropomorphism and animacy of the generated expressions are not perceived differently from the hand-designed ones, and the emotional conditioning was adequately differentiable between most levels except the pairs of neutral-positive valence and low-medium arousal. Abstract: We provide a general framework for constructing probability distributions on Riemannian manifolds, taking advantage of area-preserving maps and isometries. Control over distributions' properties, such as parameters, symmetry and modality yield a family of flexible distributions that are straightforward to sample from, suitable for use within Monte Carlo algorithms and latent variable models, such as autoencoders. As an illustration, we empirically validate our approach by utilizing our proposed distributions within a variational autoencoder and a latent space network model. 12. Microfluidic technologies for ex vivo tissue biopsies: a review

Abstract: Traditional in vitro models and animal models often lack the physiological complexity or the accuracy to obtain predictive responses that are clinically translatable to humans. With the advent of microphysiological systems over recent years, new models that are able to mimic human biology more closely have been developed. The culture of whole tissue samples within microfluidic devices promises to bridge preclinical and clinical research, and has the potential to be applied in personalised medicine, environmental sciences or the food industry. However, many challenges must be addressed in terms of tissue maintenance ex vivo or methods for analysing samples, particularly in real-time. In this review, we explore the microfluidic strategies that have been reported for the culture of tissue biopsies ex vivo and the different techniques that have been explored in order to expand their life span, control the microenvironment and interrogate the samples. Abstract: Las ciudades patrimonio de la humanidad de España (CPHE) tienen una notable importancia en el sector turístico español, ya que albergan algunas de las manifestaciones culturales más representativas del país. El notable crecimiento del turismo y urbano y cultural ha hecho que este grupo de destinos cobren una singular importancia. En este estudio se realiza un balance de lo acontecido en los últimos veinte años en el grupo de quince ciudades que componen el grupo. Se realiza un estudio de las principales estadísticas que miden la estructura turística. Los resultados muestran el gran crecimiento de la oferta de la demanda y la oferta, el proceso de internacionalización de la demanda y el papel rector en el grupo de un grupo reducido de ciudades. Así mismo, el proceso de intensificación turística puede afectar negativamente a estos destinos, especialmente a los centros históricos. El análisis se ha visto influido por la pandemia provocada por el COVID-19, pero los últimos dados de 2021 señalan que se está produciendo una clara recuperación de la demanda turística.

Abstract: La investigación, refleja el resultado de un análisis histórico de la autonomía negocial, analizando los elementos del negocio jurídico, preceptos que en el evento de ser desconocidos por los sujetos negóciales se confluye en la nulidad del negocio jurídico, ya que, aborda como esencia que atañe a las restituciones mutuas, la cual se tiene como el resultado lógico de aquel acto negocial invalidado por la conculcación del orden jurídico, que previendo cualquier lesión, predispone la posibilidad de que las prestaciones generadas y recibidas con ocasión de aquel negocio viciado, dentro de lo posible sean reintegradas a su remitente con miras al mantenimiento del orden estatuido a través del retorno de toda obligación ya concedida, bajo el presupuesto de declararse nulo un contrato administrativo, las prestaciones del negocio jurídico estatal juegan un papel preponderante en la aplicación de las restituciones mutuas, se cataloga como presupuesto para la consolidación de la figura, pues sin contraprestación debidamente ejecutada no habría lugar a restituir lo dado, toda vez, que la naturaleza de la contraprestación depende de la materialización de la restitución, es decir, no resulta equiparable retrotraer los efectos por ejemplo de un contrato de ejecución instantánea a diferencia del contrato de trato sucesivo. 17. Evaluation of suitability areas for ecotourism using multi-criteria analysis. The case of central Serbian viticultural region

Abstract: The authors participated equally in the development of this research Tourism in the wine region of Central Serbia has been gaining more and more affirmation in recent years. This wine destination offers to tourists a rich wine culture and recreation. Also, as a special supplement to wine tourism, ecotourism is especially promoted, in combination with quality wines with geographical origin. The basic analysis of this study is to identify potential locations for ecotourism activities in the wine region of Central Serbia based on physical-geographical elements (topography, altitude, slope, land use / coverage, diversity, distance from rivers) and socio-economic data (proximity to tourist attractions, distance from major roads and places). The integration of the Geographic Information System (GIS) and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) greatly facilitates the decision-making process in the assessment of ecotourism activities. As a result of this paper, a map of benefits for the development of ecotourism potentials was highlighted. Very high potential is shown by forest areas that can play a key role in tourism but are not fully used. This analysis helps in two ways: the promotion of ecotourism and viticultural destinations. In particular, in the assessment and implementation for local communities to identify tourism as an opportunity for economic development. Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC) 6 has been associated with missense but not biallelic nonsense or frameshift mutations in MYO5B, encoding the motor protein myosin Vb (myoVb). This genotype-phenotype correlation and the mechanism through which MYO5B mutations give rise to PFIC are not understood. The aim of this study was to determine whether the loss of myoVb or expression of patient-specific myoVb mutants can be causally related to defects in canalicular protein localization and, if so, through which mechanism. We demonstrate that the cholestasis-associated substitution of the proline at amino acid position 600 in the myoVb protein to a leucine (P660L) caused the intracellular accumulation of bile canalicular proteins in vesicular compartments. Remarkably, the knockout of MYO5B in vitro and in vivo produced no canalicular localization defects. In contrast, the expression of myoVb mutants consisting of only the tail domain phenocopied the effects of the Myo5b-P660L mutation. Using additional myoVb and rab11a mutants, we demonstrate that motor domain-deficient myoVb inhibited the formation of specialized apical recycling endosomes and that its disrupting effect on the localization of canalicular proteins was dependent on its interaction with active rab11a and occurred at the trans -Golgi Network/recycling endosome interface. Our results reveal a mechanism through which MYO5B motor domain mutations can cause the mislocalization of canalicular proteins in hepatocytes which, unexpectedly, does not involve myoVb loss-of-function but, as we propose, a rab11a-mediated gain-of-toxic function. The results explain why biallelic MYO5B mutations that affect the motor domain but not those that eliminate myoVb expression are associated with PFIC6.

19. Métodos para determinar nitrógeno en granos de girasol

Abstract: In sunflower, grain oil concentration (OG) determines oil industrial yield and protein concentration (PG) determines the protein of by-products as pellets and meals (PM). There are various methodologies to quantify total grain nitrogen concentration (NG): a) Kjeldahl (wet digestion); b) Dumas (dry combustion); c) NIRS (analysis of the spectrum of the light reflected by the sample). NIRS represents a promissory method for determining NG because it is simple and fast. The objective of this work was to compare the methods of NIRS, Kjeldahl and Dumas to quantify NG in sunflower grains and to adjust models to estimate PM from NG. Eighty-four samples of sunflower grains were selected covering a wide range of variation in NG (from 1.75 to 3.80 % taking Dumas reference) from a net of experiment conducted in southeastern Buenos Aires Province (2013-2014 and 2014-2015). NIRS was the most precise method for the determination of NG and presented a greater degree of agreement with Dumas regarding Kjeldahl. PM was satisfactorily estimated with NG. Therefore, NIRS could be a superior alternative to the other techniques because presents low cost, it is fast, no toxic and has the advantage of being able to determine other components of the grain simultaneously with the determination of NG. En girasol, la concentración de aceite (OG) determina el rendimiento industrial de los granos y la concentración de proteína (PG) determina la calidad de los subproductos como pellets y harinas (PM). Existen varias metodologías para cuantificar la concentración de nitrógeno total en grano (NG): a) Kjeldahl (digestión húmeda); b) Dumas (combustión seca); y c) NIRS (análisis del espectro de la luz reflejada por la muestra). NIRS representa un método promisorio para determinar NG porque es simple y rápido. El objetivo de este trabajo fue comparar los métodos de NIRS, Kjeldahl y Dumas para cuantificar NG en granos de girasol y ajustar modelos para estimar PM a partir de NG. Se seleccionaron ochenta y cuatro muestras de granos de girasol que cubren un amplio rango de NG (de 1.75 a 3.80% tomando la referencia del método de Dumas) de una red de experimentos realizados en el sudeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires (2013-2014 y 2014-2015). El NIRS fue el método más preciso para la determinación de NG y presentó un mayor grado de ajuste con Dumas respecto a Kjeldahl. La PM se estimó satisfactoriamente con NG. Controversies like those surrounding the TransMountain pipeline expansion or the Taseko Mines trial reveal the contradictions of the settler nation-state in its relations with Indigenous peoples. Indigenous writers are exploring the possibilities of science fiction to envision possible Native futures, hopes, and to make sense of the present moment, expanding the expectations of indigenous writing beyond ��reservation realisms�� and surpassing the tropes of sf. From this Indigenousfuturism part Celu Amberstone��s ��Refugees��. At a time of the global ecological collapse, aliens called "Benefactors" have abducted earthlings to repopulate a new planet to save the human race from extinction. What appears to be a pious act gives rise to a complicated dynamic between the narrator, her biased trust of the colonizers and the last comers from Earth, urban natives disconnected from indigenous modes of knowledge and relationality with the land. Stemming from the indigenous modes of knowledge by Zainab Amadahi and Leanne Simpson, and contributions from the sociology of space by Doreen Massey, this article aims to address Celu Amberstone's ��Refugees�� to explore the possibility of articulating decolonial politics, exploring new forms of sovereignty in decolonization, and the interconnection with the land versus the impending ecological collapse and fiduciary gridlock exercised by the Canadian neoliberal, settler colonial state. 21. Sostenibilidad en las organizaciones: la revisión sistemática

Abstract: This study aims to explore the sustainable practices carried out by organizations from different sectors in the last three years (2018-2021). Therefore, a systematic review was carried out, considering specific inclusion and exclusion criteria so that the most relevant studies could be selected for the discussion of the topic in question. 17 publications were selected to compose this study, most of the publications on sustainable practices in organizations came from Masters (Dissertations) (65%), with the years 2018 and 2019 with the highest number of publications, only one in 2020. In Regarding educational institutions and courses, there was no greater specific production, although the University of São Paulo (USP) has a greater number of publications. The results showed that the practices differ considering each sector in which the companies operate, which shows the influence of the market. Corporate reputation has been identified as one of the main motivations for adopting these practices. At the end of the study, it was found as sustainable practices, it was found that most of them have been preventive, of long-term application that also generate economic results for companies such as energy savings, water reuse, mitigation of solid waste generation, in addition to social practices being verified in the community in which the companies are inserted. The main motivation was the improvement of corporate reputation. Este estudio tiene como objetivo explorar las prácticas sostenibles llevadas a cabo por organizaciones de diferentes sectores en los últimos tres años (2018-2021). Por ello, se realizó una revisión sistemática, considerando criterios específicos de inclusión y exclusión para que se pudieran seleccionar los estudios más relevantes para la discusión del tema en cuestión. Para componer este estudio se seleccionaron 17 publicaciones, la mayoría de las publicaciones sobre prácticas sostenibles en las organizaciones provinieron de Maestrías (Disertaciones) (65%), siendo los años 2018 y 2019 con mayor número de publicaciones, solo una en 2020. En cuanto a instituciones educativas y cursos, no hubo mayor producción específica, aunque la Universidad de São Paulo (USP) tiene un mayor número de publicaciones. Los resultados mostraron que las prácticas difieren considerando cada sector en el que operan las empresas, lo que muestra la influencia del mercado. La reputación corporativa ha sido identificada como una de las principales motivaciones para adoptar estas prácticas. Al final del estudio, se encontró como prácticas sostenibles, se encontró que la mayoría de ellas han sido preventivas, de aplicación de largo plazo que también generan resultados económicos para las empresas como ahorro energético, reutilización de agua, mitigación de la generación de residuos sólidos, además de prácticas sociales que se están verificando en la comunidad en la que se insertan las empresas. La principal motivación fue la mejora de la reputación corporativa. Este estudo tem como objetivo explorar as práticas sustentáveis realizadas por organizações de diferentes setores nos últimos três anos (2018-2021). Para tanto, foi realizada uma revisão sistemática, considerando critérios de inclusão e exclusão específicos para que se pudesse selecionar os estudos mais pertinentes à discussão do tema em questão. Foram selecionadas 17 publicações para compor este estudo, a maior parte das publicações sobre práticas sustentáveis nas organizações foram decorrentes de Mestrado (Dissertações) (65%), com os anos de 2018 e 2019 com maior número de publicações, somente uma em 2020. Em relação às instituições de ensino e aos cursos, não se verificou uma maior produção específica, apesar de a Universidade de São Paulo (USP) ter um maior número de publicações. Os resultados demonstraram que as práticas se diferenciam considerando cada setor de atuação das empresas, o que evidencia influência do mercado. A reputação corporativa tem sido apontada como uma das principais motivações para adoção dessas práticas. 22. A low‐power opamp‐less second‐order delta‐sigma modulator for bioelectrical signals in 0.18 μm cmos

Abstract: This article reports on a compact and low‐power CMOS readout circuit for bioelectrical signals based on a second‐order delta‐sigma modulator. The converter uses a voltage‐controlled, oscillator‐based quantizer, achieving second‐order noise shaping with a single opamp‐less integrator and minimal analog circuitry. A prototype has been implemented using 0.18 μm CMOS technology and includes two different variants of the same modulator topology. The main modulator has been optimized for low‐noise, neural‐action‐potential detection in the 300 Hz–6 kHz band, with an input‐referred noise of 5.0 μVrms, and occupies an area of 0.0045 mm2. An alternative configuration features a larger input stage to reduce low‐frequency noise, achieving 8.7 μVrms in the 1 Hz–10 kHz band, and occupies an area of 0.006 mm2. Abstract: The aim of research was evaluate the association between postprandial and sleeping arterial blood pressure (BP) variations in the non-diabetic elderly. This observational and crosssectional study evaluated systolic, diastolic, mean and pulse pressures, along with heart rate, in 69 non-diabetic elderly patients. We used Ambulatory BP monitoring for pressure and heart rate measurements. We selected three periods: preprandial (two hours before lunch), postprandial (2 hours after lunch) and sleeping (8 hours). Each period was subdivided into six intervals with their respective means. BP variability rates and heart rate were evaluated according to the studied periods and were calculated using the time-rate index. Comparison of the means and BP variability between the preprandial, postprandial and sleeping periods revealed significant differences. For postprandial and sleeping systolic BP, the variations observed were 113.2±15.3 mmHg and 108.5±13.9 mmHg, respectively, P=0.003. Nossa abordagem é inspirada na teoria de Landau para Transições de Fase de Segunda Ordem ou, de maneira mais precisa, na idéia que uma transição de fase de segunda ordem está acompanhada por uma redução na simetria do sistema. A nova fase passa a ser descrita por um subgrupo da fase de alta simetria, implicando consequências para o parâmetro de ordem, que em nosso caso determina a estrutura do gap supercondutor. A recente descoberta da coexistência de supercondutividade e ferromagnetismo revelou o problema da classificação das possíveis simetrias do parâmetro de ordem supercondutor quando o estado normal não possui simetria de reversão temporal. Veremos que o problema é resolvido quando a simetria do estado normal é descrita por grupos magnéticos ( ou co-grupos) e que a classificação dos estados supercondutores deve agora ser feita em termos das co-representações destes grupos Abstract: In this dissertation, we present a study of the order-parameter symmetry in ferromagnetic superconductors. Our approach is inspired on the Landau Theory of Phase Trasition or, more precisely, on the idea that a second order phase transition is a symmetry breaking process where the ordered phase of the system is described by a subgroup of the highly symmetric one, leading to important consequences for the order parameter. In our case, it imposes constraints to the superconducting gap structure. The recent discovery of the coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism brought the problem of the classification of such structures in the situation where time reversal symmetry is broken on the normal state. 27. Closed loop cable robot for large horizontal workspaces

Abstract: Inspection and maintenance of civil structures are important issues for sustainability of existing and new infrastructures. Classical approach relies on large human activities eventually performed in unsafe conditions. This paper proposed a non-invasive solution for inspecting horizontal surface such as decks of bridges. The proposal presented here is based in cable-driven robots and allows to inspect large surfaces maintaining a very low vertical occupancy in comparison to the conventional architecture of this kind of robot. Using closed cables loop instead of a set of cables a device with low motorization power and very large workspace is designed and prototyped. As example of control an inverse dynamics technique is applied to control the end-effector where inspection tool is located, e.g. a vision system. Abstract: Dissertação de Mestrado que aborda os dilemas das possibilidades de se narrar o Holocausto do ponto de vista historiográfico, e com interfaces com outros tipos de representação. Leva-se, em consideração, para isto, a natureza do evento, de peso moral elevado, os desafios que o giro linguístico impôs à historiografia ao interpor narrativa histórica e objetividade histórica, e as condições de possibilidade que o passado lega ao historiador para que se escreva sobre o passado. O trabalho analisa então, as possibilidades de se formular uma verdade histórica a respeito do Holocausto, contraponto as aporias do narrativismo e da continuidade temporal. Chegou-se à conclusão, dentro de uma perspectiva temporal moderna, que o tempo tem uma natureza tanto irrevogável quanto modificável pelo presente e prospectos de futuro; e que mesmo sendo o Holocausto um “buraco negro” de sentido é possível e desejável que, para as gerações futuras possam gerar uma identidade em relação ao seu próprio passado e passado coletivo, se pense em possibilidades de melhorar o passado. This is a graduate thesis addressing the dilemns narrating Holocaust possibilities, from a historiographical point of view, although considering interefaces among otherkinds of representation. It takes in account the moral weigh nature of the event, the challenges imposed by the linguistic turn considerations in history onto the objectiveness of its representations and the possibility conditions that the past itself pose to the historians for writing of history. This thesis analyse then the possibilities of formulating somthing like a true historical representation about the Holocaust, taking into account the aporias of narrativism and temporality continuity. The final conclusion, within the frames of a modern conception of temporality, is that time has both and irreversible condition and a modifiable one that change in bound with prospects of a better present and future. And even though Holocaust beeing a “balck hole” os sense, it is possible and desirable for future generations, in the prospect of generation of new identities about their own individual and collective past, that Holocaust can be narrated. So, then, tha past can be improved, maybe.

Abstract: Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz (KŁ) functions are real-valued functions characterized by a differential inequality involving the norm of their gradient. This class of functions is quite rich, containing objects as diverse as subanalytic, transnormal or Morse functions. We prove that the zero locus of a Kurdyka-Łojasiewicz function admits a mapping cylinder neighborhood. This implies, in particular, that wildly embedded topological 2-manifolds in 3-dimensional Euclidean space, such as Alexander horned spheres, do not arise as the zero loci of KŁ functions., 27 pages, to appear in Annales de l`Institut Fourier

Abstract: In this document we review a geometric technique, called \emph{the blow-up method}, as it has been used to analyze and understand the dynamics of fast-slow systems around non-hyperbolic points. The blow-up method, having its origins in algebraic geometry, was introduced in 1996 to the study of fast-slow systems in the seminal work by Dumortier and Roussarie \cite{dumortier1996canard}, whose aim was to give a geometric approach and interpretation of canards in the van der Pol oscillator. Following \cite{dumortier1996canard}, many efforts have been performed to expand the capabilities of the method and to use it in a wide range of scenarios. Our goal is to present in a concise and compact form those results that, based on the blow-up method, are now the foundation of the geometric theory of fast-slow systems with non-hyperbolic singularities. We cover fold points due to their great importance in the theory of fast-slow systems as one of the main topics. Furthermore, we also present several other singularities such as Hopf, pitchfork, transcritical, cusp, and Bogdanov-Takens, in which the blow-up method has been proved to be extremely useful. 31. A low‐power opamp‐less second‐order delta‐sigma modulator for bioelectrical signals in 0.18 μm cmos

Abstract: This article reports on a compact and low‐power CMOS readout circuit for bioelectrical signals based on a second‐order delta‐sigma modulator. The converter uses a voltage‐controlled, oscillator‐based quantizer, achieving second‐order noise shaping with a single opamp‐less integrator and minimal analog circuitry. A prototype has been implemented using 0.18 μm CMOS technology and includes two different variants of the same modulator topology. The main modulator has been optimized for low‐noise, neural‐action‐potential detection in the 300 Hz–6 kHz band, with an input‐referred noise of 5.0 μVrms, and occupies an area of 0.0045 mm2. An alternative configuration features a larger input stage to reduce low‐frequency noise, achieving 8.7 μVrms in the 1 Hz–10 kHz band, and occupies an area of 0.006 mm2. Abstract: El presente trabajo de investigación titulado: Análisis del Modelo de Servicio Educativo Jornada Escolar Completa (JEC) en la mejora de la enseñanza y logros de aprendizaje de los estudiantes de secundaria de la unidad de Gestión Local – UGEL Lamas, tiene como objetivo demostrar que la implementación del modelo de servicio educativo Jornada Escolar Completa mejorará la calidad de la enseñanza e incrementará los logros de aprendizaje de los estudiantes del nivel secundaria en la Unidad de Gestión Educativa Local – UGEL Lamas. El enfoque de estudio es cualitativo y cuantitativo, está enmarcado en el diseño de tipo descriptivo-relacional. Para el estudio se aplicaron diferentes técnicas e instrumentos de investigación, en primer lugar, el análisis documental que permite recopilar información histórica sobre los resultados de las pruebas de evaluación censal de los estudiantes de los años 2016 y 2018 de dos instituciones educativas, una con el modelo de servicio educativo implementado y la otra sin ningún modelo implementado, a fin de comparar los resultados obtenidos en función de los logros de aprendizaje de los estudiantes, lo que permitió iniciar con el análisis del modelo de servicio educativo Jornada Escolar Completa; y en segundo lugar, la encuesta a través de una guía de preguntas estructuradas que recogió las percepciones y opiniones de padres de familia y estudiantes de la institución educativa, materia de estudio. Abstract: This essay discusses music as a formation problem (Bildung) according to Espinosa. The interpretative feature takes Ethics (1677) as a starting point. Ethics, aesthetics, and epistemology are related in the recovery of the relation between what is sensible and intelligible in the monist philosophy context. The essay returns to the position of Espinosa in relation to the criticism of platonic-cartesian dualism, followed by the interpretative reconstruction of three parts of the Ethics text: part one (God), two (nature and the Origin of the Mind) and three (The Origin and Nature of the Affections); and, finally, the interpretation of the formative- musical dimensions according to the philosopher being studied. El ensayo discute la música como problema en la formación (Bildung) desde Espinosa. El recurso interpretativo toma como punto de partida la Ética (1677). Se relacionan ética, estética y epistemología en la reanudación de la relación entre lo sensible y lo inteligible en el contexto de la filosofía monista. Amarillo consorciado com capim coastcross, Arachis pintoi cv. Belmonte consorciado com capim coastcross, Stylosanthes guianesis cv. Mineirão consorciado com capim coastcross, Stylosanthes guianesis cv. Mineirão consorciado com capim coastcross, e o capim coastcross em monocultivo. As amostragens realizadas foram na profundidade de 0-20 cm nos 2 anos avaliados. Avaliaram-se os teores de Fósforo, Potássio e Matéria Orgânica do Solo. E as amostras de solo para a avaliação de parâmetros físicos, onde foi utilizado o anel de coleta ao término do período de coletas de amostras das plantas, 36 meses após implantação do experimento. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e as médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey ao nível de 5% de probabilidade. Não foram observadas diferenças significativas entre os níveis de fósforo no período avaliado (2 anos). Os níveis de potássio apresentaram diferença significativa apenas para aquelas parcelas que não receberam adubação no período avaliado. Em relação aos níveis de matéria orgânica estes foram diferentes nas parcelas adubadas e não adubadas no período avaliado. Não foram verificados efeitos nas características físicas do solo.

Abstract: The present study analyzes the impact of parenting styles on adolescents&rsquo, self-esteem and internalization of social values in three countries, Spain, Portugal and Brazil. The sample of the study was comprised of 2091 adolescents from Spain (n = 793), Portugal (n = 675), and Brazil (n = 623) from 12&ndash, 18 years old (52.1% females). The four types of parenting styles, authoritative, indulgent, authoritarian and neglectful, were measured through the warmth and strictness dimensions of the Scale of Parental Socialization ESPA29. The two criteria variables were captured with the five dimensions of the AF5, Five-Factor Self-Concept Questionnaire, and with self-transcendence and conservation Schwartz values. Results confirm emergent research in parenting socialization: the use of parental warmth is evidenced as key for adolescent self-esteem and internalization of social values in the three countries analyzed. Indulgent and authoritative parenting (both characterized by parental warmth) are associated with the highest value internalization in the three countries. Furthermore, indulgent parenting (use of warmth) is associated with the highest adolescent self-esteem, overcoming authoritative parenting (use of warmth and strictness). The influence of parenting over adolescent self-esteem and values internalization is maintained independent of the differences in self-esteem and value priorities observed in the cultural context, the sex and age of the participants.

Abstract: Based on the theoretical foundations of authors such as Fornet-Betancourt (1994,2009), Ricoeur (2005) and Salas (2005) and, the possibility of analyzing the foundations that make it possible to install an intercultural ethics is proposed. This implies talking about otherness, dialogue, intersubjectivity and recognition of the other. This article raises some of the key foundations that generate an ethical coexistence of these characteristics, in the context of a Chile that has lost or forgotten the need to assume otherness and intersubjectivity as the basis of any possible convergence. In view of contributing to a space-country that is, above all, a meeting place based on the recognition of diversity and difference.

Abstract: Current emergent studies are seriously questioning if parental strictness contributes to adolescent adjustment. This study examined whether the relationship between authoritative (warmth and strictness), authoritarian (strictness without warmth), indulgent (warmth without strictness), and neglectful (neither warmth nor strictness) parenting styles shows equal or different pattern of adjustment and maladjustment for aggressive and non-aggressive adolescents. The sample consisted of 969 Spanish adolescents, 554 females (57.2%) and 415 males, ranging from 12 to 17 years old. Families were classified into one of four typologies by their scores on warmth and strictness, and the adolescents were grouped by their aggressiveness (low vs. high). Adolescent adjustment was captured with three self-esteem indicators (emotional, physical, and family) and personal maladjustment with five indicators (negative self-esteem, negative self-adequacy, emotional irresponsiveness, emotional instability, and negative worldview). It was tested main and interaction effects between parenting and aggressiveness considering also sex and age factors. Findings showed that aggressive adolescents always had the worst socialization outcomes (i.e., the lowest self-esteem and the highest personal maladjustment). Aggressive and non-aggressive adolescents have a common pattern: both, indulgent and authoritative parenting styles were always associated with better outcomes than either authoritarian or neglectful parenting, but indulgent parenting style was associated with the best outcomes across all the criteria. In contrast with previous evidence about the idea that parental strictness and imposition might be beneficial to raise aggressive adolescents, present findings highlight the positive impact of parental warmth even with aggressive adolescents. Implications for family interventions were considered. RESUMEN Investigaciones emergentes cuestionan que la severidad parental contribuya al ajuste del adolescente. Este estudio examina si la relación entre los estilos parentales autorizativo (afecto y severidad), autoritario (severidad sin afecto), indulgente (afecto sin severidad) y negligente (ni afecto ni severidad) presenta patrones de ajuste y desajuste iguales o diferentes en adolescentes agresivos y no agresivos. Participaron 969 adolescentes españoles, 554 mujeres (57.2%) y 415 varones, de 12 a 17 años. Las familias se clasificaron en un estilo parental según sus puntuaciones en afecto y severidad y los adolescentes se agruparon por agresividad (baja vs. alta). Se captó el ajuste mediante tres indicadores de autoestima (emocional, física y familiar) y el desajuste personal con cinco indicadores (autoestima negativa, autoeficacia negativa, falta de respuesta emocional, inestabilidad emocional y visión negativa del mundo). Se probaron efectos principales y de interacción para estilos parentales y agresividad, considerando también sexo y edad. Los análisis mostraron que los adolescentes agresivos siempre tenían los peores resultados (i.e., la menor autoestima y el mayor desajuste personal). Los adolescentes agresivos y no agresivos comparten un patrón común: los estilos indulgente y autorizativo siempre se asociaron con mejores resultados que el autoritario o el negligente, pero el estilo indulgente se asoció con los mejores resultados en todos los criterios. A diferencia de estudios previos que consideraban que el rigor y la severidad de los padres podrían ser beneficiosos en hijos agresivos, los presentes resultados resaltan el impacto positivo del afecto parental incluso en adolescentes agresivos. Se consideraron las implicaciones para las intervenciones familiares.

Abstract: The present work had as objectives to evaluate nutrient levels over four consecutive years of cultivation, in a consortium of pasture legumes system with coastcross and grass, and the grass coastcross in exclusive cultivation. The experimental design used was randomized blocks with composted plots and not composted, in time. The treatments tested were the Arachis pintoi CV. Amarillo consorted with coastcross grass, Arachis pintoi CV. Belmonte grass intercropping coastcross, Stylosanthes guianesis CV. Mineirão grass intercropping coastcross, Stylosanthes guianesis cv. Mineirão consorted with coastcross grass, and the grass coastcross in monoculture. The samplings were carried out in 0-20 depth cm in 2 years. We evaluated the levels of phosphorus, potassium and soil organic matter. And the soil samples for evaluation of physical parameters, where the ring was used at the end of the collection period of collecting samples of plants, 36 months after implementation of the experiment. The data were subjected to analysis of variance and averages were compared by Tukey test at 5% probability level. There were no significant differences between the levels of phosphorus in the evaluated period (2 years). Potassium levels showed significant difference only for those portions that have not received fertilization in the evaluated period. In relation to these organic matter levels were different on the plots fertilized and not composted in the evaluated period. Not been verified effects on soil physical characteristics. Abstract: Using graphs to model irregular information domains is an effective approach to deal with some of the intricacies of contemporary (network) data. A key aspect is how the data, represented as graph signals, depend on the topology of the graph. Widely-used approaches assume that the observed signals can be viewed as outputs of graph filters (i.e., polynomials of a matrix representation of the graph) whose inputs have a particular structure. Diffused graph signals, which correspond to an originally sparse (node-localized) signal percolated through the graph via filtering, fall into this class. In that context, this paper deals with the problem of jointly identifying graph filters and separating their (sparse) input signals from a mixture of diffused graph signals, thus generalizing to the graph signal processing framework the classical blind demixing (blind source separation) of temporal and spatial signals. We first consider the scenario where the supporting graphs are different across the signals, providing a theorem for demixing feasibility along with probabilistic bounds on successful recovery. Additionally, an analysis of the degenerate problem of demixing with a single graph is also presented. Abstract: Background: Reduced RHOA signalling has been shown to increase the growth/metastatic potential of colorectal tumours. However, the mechanisms of inactivation of RHOA signalling in colon cancer have not been characterised. Methods: A panel of colorectal cancer cell lines and large cohorts of primary tumours were used to investigate the expression and activity of RHOA, as well as the presence of RHOA mutations/deletions and promoter methylation affecting RHOA. Changes in RHOA expression were assessed by western blotting and qPCR after modulation of microRNAs, SMAD4 and c-MYC. Results: We show here that RHOA point mutations and promoter hypermethylation do not significantly contribute to the large variability of RHOA expression observed among colorectal tumours. However, RHOA copy number loss was observed in 16% of colorectal tumours and this was associated with reduced RHOA expression. Moreover, we show that miR-200a/b/429 downregulates RHOA in colorectal cancer cells. In addition, we found that TGF-β/SMAD4 upregulates the RHOA promoter. Conversely, RHOA expression is transcriptionally downregulated by canonical Wnt signalling through the Wnt target gene c-MYC that interferes with the binding of SP1 to the RHOA promoter in colon cancer cells. Conclusions: We demonstrate a complex pattern of inactivation of the tumour suppressor gene RHOA in colon cancer cells through genetic, transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms.

Abstract: Objective To quantify the persistence of residues after endodontic retreatment related to the root canal obturation technique (lateral compaction or single cone) previously performed and the solvent used (xylol or Endosolv-R) in the cervical and root apical segment using digital radiograph. Materials and methods Forty root canals were prepared using the F2 instrument and filled with gutta-percha and AH Plus, 20 canals using #25 point by lateral compaction and the other 20 using F2 point by single cone. The root canals were transversely sectioned, and two segments (cervical and apical) were obtained. Radiographs were taken from the segment in buccolingual and mesiodistal direction, as well as the area that was originally filled with the root canal obturation was measured using ImageJ. After the specimens were set on special devices, the obturations were removed using the rotary system and divided into four groups (n = 10): G1 — lateral compaction and xylol; G2 — lateral compaction and Endosolv-R; G3 — single cone and xylol; and G4 — single cone and Endosolv-R. A new radiograph was taken and the area occupied by residues was measured. The persistence of residues was obtained from the obturation remaining in the root canal in percentage. The data were analyzed using Kruskal—Wallis test (p = 0.05). Results There was no difference among the examined groups, regardless of the radicular segment or the radiograph direction (p > 0.05). Conclusion The endodontic retreatment using xylol or Endosolv-R in the obturations previously performed by lateral compaction or single cone technique presented similar persistence of residues in the root canal, regardless of the radicular segment. 47. A methodology to investigate the influence of the fillet radius on the buckling of integrally stiffened panels

Abstract: The use of integrally stiffened panels (ISP's) in wings of small and medium-sized aircraft is frequent in aviation. These thin-walled structures are often subjected to compressive loads during their life-time and, although the finite element method has become an important tool for engineers to obtain the buckling load of structural members, some results based in charts published by NACA are still used in the preliminary stages of the wing design in many aircraft companies. However, these charts used for calculation of the critical compressive stress consider only idealized stiffened panels and neglect geometric details as the fillet radius used in the current design of ISP's. The objectives of this paper are twofold: (i) to show that the charts published by NACA provide good results for the critical buckling stresses for several geometries of ISP's, when compared to finite element results with proper boundary conditions, providing fillet radii are also neglected in the finite element models and (ii) to show that the values of the critical buckling stresses for local instability of ISP's may be significantly increased when one considers the effect of the fillet radius, meaning that this parameter should also be considered in the optimal design of such structures. Several numerical results obtained with finite element simulations based on different geometrical parameters of ISP's are presented in this study.

48. Anisotropic magnetic excitations and incipient N\’eel order in $\mathrm{Ba}{({\mathrm{Fe}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Mn}}_{x})}_{2}{\mathrm{As}}_{2}$

Abstract: It is currently understood that high temperature superconductivity (SC) in the transition metal (M) substituted iron arsenides Ba(Fe1−xMx)2As2 is promoted by magnetic excitations with wave vectors (π,0) or (0,π). It is known that while a small amount of Co substitution lead to SC, the same does not occur for Mn for any value of x. In this work, magnetic excitations in the iron arsenides Ba(Fe1−xMnx)2As2(x=0.0,0.007,0.009,0.08) are investigated by means of resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) at the Fe L3 edge, for momentum transfer q along the high symmetry Brillouin zone (π,0) and (π,π) directions. It is shown that with increasing Mn content (x), the excitations become anisotropic both in dispersion and lineshape. Both effects are detected even for small values of x, evidencing a cooperative phenomenon between the Mn impurities, that we ascribe to emerging Néel order of the Mn spins. Moreover, for x=0.08, the excitations along q∥(π,0) are strongly damped and nearly nondispersive. This result suggests that phases of arsenides containing local moments at the FeAs layers, as in Mn or Cr substituted phases, do not support high temperature SC due to the absence of the appropriate magnetic excitations.

Abstract: KAWA-RACE study group., [Background] Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute self-limited systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology affecting mainly children less than 5 years of age. Risk factors for cardiac involvement and resistance to treatment are insufficiently studied in non-Japanese children., [Objective] This study aimed to investigate the epidemiology, clinical features and risk factors for resistance to treatment and coronary artery lesions (CAL) in KD in Spain., [Methods] Retrospective study (May 2011-June 2016) of all patients less than 16 years of age diagnosed with KD included in KAWA-RACE network (84 Spanish hospitals)., [Results] A total of 625 cases were analyzed, 63% were males, 79% under 5 year-olds and 16.8% younger than 12 months. On echocardiographic examination CAL were the most frequent findings (23%) being ectasia the most common (12%). Coronary aneurysms were diagnosed in 9.6%, reaching 20% in infants under 12 months (p 900,000 cells/mm3, maximum temperature < 39.5°C, total duration of fever > 10 days and fever before treatment ≥ 8 days as independent risk factors for developing coronary aneurysms., [Conclusions] In our population, children under 12 months develop coronary aneurysms more frequently and children with KD with anemia and leukocytosis have high risk of cardiac involvement. Adding steroids early should be considered in those patients, especially if the treatment is not started before 8 days of fever. A score applicable to non-Japanese children able to predict the risk of aneurysm development and IVIG resistance is necessary., CC received a grant from Spanish Society of Paediatric Rheumatology (SERPE), 2015.

50. Enabling Socially Competent navigation through incorporating HRI

Abstract: Over the last years, social robots have been deployed in public environments making evident the need of human-aware navigation capabilities. In this regard, the robotics community have made efforts to include proxemics or social conventions within the navigation approaches. Nevertheless, few works have tackled the problem of labelling humans as an interactive agent when blocking the robot motion trajectory. Current state of the art navigation planners will either propose an alternative path or freeze the motion until the path is free. We present the first prototype of a framework designed to enhance social competency of robots while navigating in indoor environments. The implementation is done using Navigation and Object Detection open-source software.
