- Abstract
Background: Telehealth is and alternative to improve functional mobility of elderly with dementia on a pandemic scenario, but still little explored on Brazil. Objective: To analyze the effects of a telehealth program on functional mobility among elderly with dementia. Methods: Ten elderly with dementia were evaluated about functional capacity through physical test Timed Up and Go. After, they were randomized and divided into two groups: telehealth group (TG) and control group (CG). The TG performed systematic physical and cognitive exercises with professional monitoring, while the CG received non-systematized guidance, both for 12 weeks. Participants were evaluated pre, immediately after three-month intervention and with a 12- week follow-up. Results: Of the 10 participants, 5 were allocated to each group. In the pre-intervention evaluation, the CG had a mean of 15.64 +/- 5.04 seconds in the TUG test and the TG had a mean of 19.78 +/- 6.51, that is, above 12.45 seconds means risk of falling. In the post-intervention, the CG had a mean of 16.83 +/- 6.77 and the TG a mean of 25.22 +/- 19.50. After 3 months of follow-up, the CG and the TG showed a mean of 16.08 +/- 2.04 and 17.98 +/- 6.73, respectively. Conclusion: After the intervention period, due to the small number of the sample, it was not possible to verify improvement in either group.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-08-10 Australian Government Department of Health Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) University of Queensland Background Few studies have examined relationships between physical activity (PA) during mid-age and health costs in women. The aim of this study was to investigate associations between PA levels and trajectories over 12 years with medical and pharmaceutical costs in mid-age Australian women. Methods Data from 6953 participants in the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health (born in 1946-1951) were analysed in 2019. PA was self-reported in 2001 (50-55y), 2007 (56-61y) and 2013 (62-67y). PA data were linked with 2013-2015 data from the Medicare (MBS) and Pharmaceutical (PBS) Benefits Schemes. Quantile regression was used to examine associations between PA patterns [always active, increasers, decreasers, fluctuaters or always inactive (reference)] with these medical and pharmaceutical costs. Results Among women who were consistently inactive (< 500 MET.minutes/week) in 2001, 2007 and 2013, median MBS and PBS costs (2013 to 2015) were AUD4261 and AUD1850, respectively. Those costs were AUD1728 (95%CI: 443-3013) and AUD578 (95%CI: 426-729) lower among women who were consistently active in 2001, 2007 and 2013 than among those who were always inactive. PBS costs were also lower in women who were active at only one survey (AUD205; 95%CI: 49-360), and in those whose PA increased between 2001 and 2013 (AUD388; 95%CI: 232-545). Conclusion Maintaining 'active' PA status was associated with 40% lower MBS and 30% lower PBS costs over three years in Australian women. Helping women to remain active in mid-life could result in considerable savings for both women and the Australian government. To evaluate the association between participation in the Saúde Ativa Rio Claro (SARC) program and physical activity (PA) levels among adult women. A case control study was conducted in seven primary health care settings in Rio Claro, São Paulo, Brazil. The sample included 111 women participating in the intervention (mean age: 58±13 years). For each participant, we selected a non participant, matched to the intervention participant by age (± 5 years) and neighborhood. e program provides 1-hour multimodal exercise twice a week as well as general advice about health self-care. PA was measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) long version. While 18.0% of the non participants reported practicing 150 min/wk of leisure-time PA (LTPA) or more, 61.3% of the participants achieved such threshold (OR= 7.2; IC95%: 3.8-13.3). Participants performed more minutes compared to non-participants, even omitting the 100 min/wk of PA pro- vided by the intervention (p

Immunology ,Immunology and Allergy - Abstract
Urinary tractinfections (UTIs) are commonly acquired bacterial infections that cause significant morbidity, worsened by the rise of antimicrobial resistance among uropathogenic bacteria. Understanding the dynamics of bacterial UTIs is essential to the proper use of antimicrobial therapies in patient treatment. In this study, Electric Cell-Substrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS) technology was used to monitor bacterial-mediated cytotoxicity in-vitro enabling evaluation of antibiotics. Using the ECIS system, real-time changes of barrier function were recorded for human bladder epithelial cells infected with either antibiotic sensitive or resistant bacteria. This study employed four common uropathogens: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus species, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The effect of different antimicrobials, antibiotic titers, and organism concentrations were evaluated. The addition of an antibiotic helped confirm and differentiate sensitive and resistant bacterial strains. Antibiotic concentrations at sensitive and resistant breakpoints were not as effective at high organism concentrations but were completely effective at lower more clinically relevant bacterial loads. The data showed bacterial strains resistant to co-cultured antibiotic took longer on average to degrade the cell monolayer than sensitive strains. Overall, these results indicate that antibiotic resistance is often associated with a fitness cost. Our findings support the use of ECIS to augment routine susceptibility data allowing the direct phenotypic measurement of bacterial virulence and the effects of antibiotic treatment on these strains.

OBJECTIVE: To identify the highest priorities for research on environmental and policy changes for promoting physical activity (PA) in Brazil; to uncover any gaps between researchers' and practitioners' priorities; and to consider which tools, methods, collaborative strategies, and actions could be useful to moving a research agenda forward. METHODS: This was a mixed-methods study (qualitative and quantitative) conducted by Project GUIA (Guide for Useful Interventions for Activity in Brazil and Latin America) in February 2010-January 2011. A total of240 individuals in the PA field (186 practitioners and 54 researchers) were asked to generate research ideas; 82 participants provided 266 original statements from which 52 topics emerged. Participants rated topics by "importance" and "feasibility;" a separate convenience sample of 21 individuals categorized them. Cluster analysis and multidimensional scaling were used to create concept maps and pattern matches. RESULTS: Five distinct clusters emerged from the concept mapping, of which "effectiveness and innovation in PA interventions" was rated most important by both practitioners and researchers. Pattern matching showed a divergence between the groups, especially regarding feasibility, where there was no consensus. CONCLUSIONS: The study results provided the basis for a research agenda to advance the understanding of environmental and policy influences on PA promotion in Brazil and Latin America.
