During the regulation process of VAV systems, the supply air volume changes with the real time load changes, which will cause the fresh air volume to deviate from its set value. Insufficient fresh air results in poor IAQ, whereas an excessive fresh air increases energy consumption. Therefore, an effective method to control the fresh air volume is essential for VAV systems. Based on the differential pressure control theory, two improved control methods—the fresh air section static pressure control method and the critical air volume control method—are proposed herein. Three control methods were compared through experimental study. The results indicate that differential pressure in the first improved method is higher than that in the differential pressure control method, which increases the ease of measurement. However, both these methods have approximately 15% to 25% errors when the supply air volume is small. The critical air volume control method provides more precise control of the fresh air volume, and eliminates deviations at small supply air volumes. Furthermore, the fan power is reduced as well. Investigation has demonstrated that the critical air volume control method is energy-efficient, and can provide new insights into optimized energy-saving control methods for VAV systems. This work proposed a fresh air volume control method of VAV system, the critical air volume control method. This method improves the control accuracy and the convenience of differential pressure measurement of VAV system. The reliability of the method was verified on the test rig, and it is similar to the engineering situation. Therefore, this method has practical application value. Also this method reduces the fan energy consumption of VAV system, thereby improving energy efficiency and reducing operating costs.

Identifying the thresholds for the positive responses of total net primary productivity (NPP) to nitrogen (N) enrichment is an essential prerequisite for predicting the benefits of N deposition on ecosystem carbon sequestration. However, the responses of below-ground NPP (BNPP) to N enrichment are unknown in many ecosystems, which limits our ability to understand the carbon cycling under the scenario of increasing N availability. We examined the changes in above-ground NPP (ANPP), BNPP, and NPP of a temperate meadow steppe across a wide-ranging N addition gradient (0, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 g N m -2 year -1 ) during 5 years. Both ANPP and NPP increased nonlinearly with N addition rates. The N saturation threshold for ANPP (T A ) and NPP (T N ) was at the rate of 13.11 and 6.70 g N m -2 year -1 , respectively. BNPP decreased with increasing N addition when N addition rates ˃5 g N m -2 year -1 , resulting in much lower T N than T A . Soil N enrichment played a key role in driving the negative impacts of high N addition rates on BNPP, and consequently on the earlier occurrence of N saturation threshold for NPP. Our results highlight the negative effects of soil N enrichment on NPP in natural grasslands super-saturated with N. Furthermore, by considering ANPP and BNPP simultaneously, our results indicate that previous findings from above-ground might have over-estimated the positive effects of N deposition on primary productivity.

Liver metastasis is a leading indicator of poor prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). Exosomal intercellular communication has been reported to play an important role in cancer invasion and metastasis. Here, we characterized exosomal miRNAs underlying liver metastasis in CRC patients (Cohort 1, n = 30) using miRNA arrays. Exosomal miR-150 was found to be downregulated in CRC patients with liver metastases compared to those without (P = 0.025, fold change [FC] = 2.01). These results were then validated using another independent cohort of CRC patients (Cohort 2, n = 64). Patients with low expression of exosomal miR-150 had significantly shorter overall survival (OS) time (33.3 months versus 43.3 months, P = 0.002). In addition, the low expression of exosomal miR-150 was significantly correlated with advanced tumor node metastasis staging (P = 0.013), higher CA199 level (P = 0.018), and the presence of liver metastasis (P = 0.048). Multivariate analysis showed that low expression of exosomal miR-150 (P = 0.035) and liver metastasis (P < 0.001) were independent prognostic factors for overall survival. In vivo and in vitro studies showed that the viability and invasion of CRC cells were both significantly suppressed by ExomiR-150. Target-prediction assessment and dual-luciferase reporter assay indicated that FTO (the fat mass and obesity-associated gene) was a direct target for miR-150. This study first demonstrated that exosomal miR-150 may be a potential prognostic factor and treatment target for CRC.

Temporal stability of net primary productivity (NPP) is important for predicting the reliable provisioning of ecosystem services under global changes. Although nitrogen (N) addition is known to affect the temporal stability of aboveground net primary productivity (ANPP), it is unclear how it impacts that of belowground net primary productivity (BNPP) and NPP, and whether such effects are scale dependent. Here, using experimental N addition in a grassland, we found different responses of ANPP and BNPP stability to N addition at the local scale and that these responses propagated to the larger spatial scale. That is, N addition significantly decreased the stability of ANPP but did not affect the stability of BNPP and NPP at the two scales investigated. Additionally, spatial asynchrony of both ANPP and BNPP among communities provided greater stability at the larger scale and was not affected by N addition. Our findings challenge the traditional view that N addition would reduce ecosystem stability based on results from aboveground dynamics, thus highlighting the importance of viewing ecosystem stability from a whole system perspective.

BACKGROUND Management of retroperitoneal sarcoma (RPS) involving the iliac artery is challenging and requires the concerted efforts of multidisciplinary team (MDT) members during surgical treatment. AIM To summarize the clinicopathologic features of RPS involving the iliac artery and our retroperitoneal soft tissue tumor MDT surgical experience. METHODS In this retrospective study, 15 patients with RPS involving the iliac artery who underwent surgery at our retroperitoneal soft tissue tumor center from July 2004 to June 2020 were analyzed. Statistical analyses were performed by Student’s t-test with SPSS 16.0. RESULTS Complete tumor resection (R0/R1) and iliac artery reconstruction were achieved in all 15 patients. All the operations were successful, with no serious complications or perioperative death. Resection with bilateral iliac artery reconstruction required a higher intraoperative blood transfusion volume than resection with unilateral iliac artery reconstruction. Recurrent cases were more likely to bleed and required a higher blood transfusion volume than primary cases. As of January 2021, 11 patients were alive, and 4 had died. Local recurrence occurred in two patients, one of whom developed liver metastasis. CONCLUSION Resection of RPS involving iliac vessels is feasible and effective when performed by MDT members. Iliac artery oncovascular resection and reconstruction are key to a successful operation. Adequate blood preparation is important for successful completion of surgery.

Pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics is the foundation for guiding the rational application of antibiotics in clinical practice, so it is necessary to establish quantitative methods for accurate drug concentration determination. This study aimed to develop a rapid and simple ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method for simultaneous quantification of 14 antibiotics (amikacin, etimicin, ceftazidime, cefepime, cefoperazone, ceftriaxone, daptomycin, latamoxef, linezolid, meropenem, biapenem, ampicillin, norvancomycin, and vancomycin) in human plasma and cerebrospinal fluid. Antibiotics were chromatographically separated on a Waters ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 column (2.1 mm × 50 mm, 1.7 μm) via gradient elution within 3 minutes and were monitored using positive ion fitted with multiple reaction monitoring. The lower limit of quantification was 0.05–2.0 μg·mL−1. The method was verified according to the FDA bioanalysis method validation guidelines, which showed excellent accuracy (from 86.75% to 110.85%) and precision (from 0.46% to 10.97%). At last, this method was successfully applied to therapeutic drug monitoring in 113 patients under antibiotics treatment.

The Ethylene Response Factor (ERF) transcription factor is a subfamily of the AP2/ERF family that is instrumental in mediating plant responses to diverse abiotic stressors. Herein, we present the isolation and characterization of theGmERF105 gene from Williams 82 (W82), which is rapidly induced by salt, drought, and abscisic acid (ABA) treatments in soybean. The GmERF105 protein, which contains an AP2 domain, localizes to the nucleus and retains transcriptional activation activity. Furthermore, GmERF105 selectively binds to the GCC-box. Notably, overexpression of GmERF105 in Arabidopsis under salt stress resulted in reduced seed germination rate, fresh weight, and antioxidant enzyme activity; while sodium ion content, reactive oxygen species (ROS) level, and malonic dialdehyde (MDA) content were elevated in comparison to the wild type. Furthermore, the GmERF105 transgenic plants displayed suppressed expression of stress response marker genes, including KIN1, LEA14, NCED3, RD29A, and COR15A/B, under salt treatment. Our findings suggest that GmERF105 can act as a negative regulator in plant salt tolerance pathways by affecting ROS scavenging systems.

Strongylocentrotus nudus egg polysaccharide (SEP) extracted from sea urchins has potential anticancer activity. However, little is known about its pharmacokinetic properties. To investigate the pharmacokinetics of SEP, it was radiolabeled with tritium. Furthermore, a sensitive, selective, and rapid liquid scintillation counter (LSC) method for quantifying 3H-SEP in biological matrix was validated. The lower quantification limit of the method was 4 Bq. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) of the intra- and inter-day precision were 3H-SEP was successfully applied to investigate the pharmacokinetics of SEP after intravenous administration of 20, 40, and 80 mg/kg (40 μCi/kg) in rats and 5, 10, and 20 mg/kg (6 μCi/kg) in beagles. The AUC(0-t) of SEP at three different doses was 487.81 ± 39.99 mg/L*h, 1,003.10 ± 95.94 mg/L*h, and 2,188.84 ± 137.73 mg/L*h in rats and 144.12 ± 3.78 mg/L*h, 322.62 ± 28.03 mg/L*h, and 754.17 ± 37.79 mg/L*h in beagles. The terminal elimination half-life (t1/2) of SEP was longer in beagles (204.29 ± 139.34 h) than in rats (35.48 ± 6.04 h). The concentration of SEP in plasma declined rapidly in both rats and beagles. All the study results provide detailed pharmacokinetic profiles of SEP in two kinds of animals, which will be helpful for further development.

$U(1)_X$SSM is a non-universal Abelian extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and its local gauge group is extended to $SU(3)_C\times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y\times U(1)_X$. Based on the latest data of neutral meson mixing and experimental limitations, we investigate the process of $B^{0}-\bar{B^{0}}$ mixing in $U(1)_X$SSM. Using the effective Hamiltonian method, the Wilson coefficients and mass difference $\triangle m_{B}$ are derived. The abundant numerical results verify that $~v_S,~M^2_D,~\lambda_C,~{\mu},~M_2,~\tan{\beta},~g_{YX},~M_1$ and $~\lambda_H$ are sensitive parameters to the process of $B^{0}-\bar{B^{0}}$ mixing. With further measurement in the experiment, the parameter space of the $U(1)_X$SSM will be further constrained during the mixing process of $B^{0}-\bar{B^{0}}$.

Softness, adhesion, stretchability, and fast recovery from large deformations are essential properties for conductive elastomers that play an important role in the development of high-performance soft electronics. However, it remains an ongoing challenge to obtain conductive elastomers that combine these properties. We have fabricated a super soft (Young's modulus 2.3-12 kPa), highly stretchable (up to 1500% strain), and underwater adhesive silicone conductive elastomer composite (SF-C-PDMS) by incorporating dimethyl silicone oil as a lubricating agent in a cross-linked molecular network. The resultant SF-C-PDMS not only exhibits superior softness but also can readily recover after a strain of 1000%. The initial resistance only decreases by 8% after 100000 cycles of tensile fatigue test (100% strain, 0.5 Hz, 15 mm/s). This multifunctional silicone conductive elastomer composite is obtained in a one-step preparation at room temperature using commercially available materials. Moreover, we illustrate the capabilities of this composite in motion sensing.

We introduce a framework to dynamically combine heterogeneous models called \texttt{DYCHEM}, which forecasts a set of time series that are related through an aggregation hierarchy. Different types of forecasting models can be employed as individual ``experts'' so that each model is tailored to the nature of the corresponding time series. \texttt{DYCHEM} learns hierarchical structures during the training stage to help generalize better across all the time series being modeled and also mitigates coherency issues that arise due to constraints imposed by the hierarchy. To improve the reliability of forecasts, we construct quantile estimations based on the point forecasts obtained from combined heterogeneous models. The resulting quantile forecasts are coherent and independent of the choice of forecasting models. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation of both point and quantile forecasts for hierarchical time series (HTS), including public data and user records from a large financial software company. Recent advances in Transformer architectures have empowered their empirical success in a variety of tasks across different domains. However, existing works mainly focus on predictive accuracy and computational cost, without considering other practical issues, such as robustness to contaminated samples. Recent work by Nguyen et al., (2022) has shown that the self-attention mechanism, which is the center of the Transformer architecture, can be viewed as a non-parametric estimator based on kernel density estimation (KDE). This motivates us to leverage a set of robust kernel density estimation methods for alleviating the issue of data contamination. Specifically, we introduce a series of self-attention mechanisms that can be incorporated into different Transformer architectures and discuss the special properties of each method. We then perform extensive empirical studies on language modeling and image classification tasks. Marrubiin, a furanoid compound, is a well-known diterpenoid lactone isolated from Marrubium vulgare, which displays a wide spectrum of pharmacological effects and potential hepatotoxicity. Considering that marrubiin contains a structural alert, furan ring, metabolic activation may be one of the major metabolic pathways, and the reactive metabolite may be involved in the hepatotoxicity. The present study was carried out to investigate the bioactivation mechanism of marrubiin in rats and humans. Marrubiin was initially metabolized into cis-butene-1,4-dial intermediate, which was readily trapped by glutathione (GSH) and N-acetyl-lysine (NAL) in the microsomal incubations supplemented with NADPH. A total of nine conjugates were detected and identified by high-resolution mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. M1-M3 and M6 and M7 were characterized as mono-GSH conjugates, and M4 and M5 were identified as bis-GSH conjugates. M8 and M9 were identified as NAL conjugates. In rat bile, five GSH conjugates (M1-M3; M6 and M7) were detected. M1, M8, and M9 were chemically synthesized, and their structures were characterized by 13C NMR. Sulfaphenazole, ticlopidine, and ketoconazole displayed significant inhibitory effect on the bioactivation of marrubiin. Further phenotyping revealed that CYP2C9, CYP2C19, and CYP3A4 were the primary enzymes catalyzing the bioactivation of marrubiin. The current study provides evidence for the CYP-dominated bioactivation of marrubiin to the corresponding cis-butene-1,4-dial intermediate, which enables us to better understand the potential side effects caused by marrubiin.

Isobavachalcone, a naturally occurring chalcone in Psoralea corylifolia, posses many biological properties including anticancer, antiplatelet, and antifungal. However, its glucuronidation, glucuronides excretion, and drug-drug interaction (DDI) involving in human cytochrome P450 (CYP), UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) enzymes, and efflux transporters (BCRP and MRPs) remains unclear so far. After incubation, three glucuronides were produced by HLM and HIM with total intrinsic clearance (CLint) of 236.71 and 323.40 μL/min/mg, respectively. Reaction phenotyping proved UGT1A1, 1A3, 1A7, 1A8, and 1A9 played important roles in glucuronidation with total CLint values of 62.69–143.00 μL/min/mg. Activity correlation analysis indicated UGT1A1 and UGT1A3 participated more in the glucuronidation. In addition, the glucuronidation showed marked species differences, and rabbits and dogs were probably appropriate model animals to investigate the in vivo glucuronidation. Furthermore, BCRP, MRP1, and MRP4 transporters were identified as the most important contributors to glucuronides excretion in HeLa1A1 cells based on gene silencing method. Moreover, isobavachalcone demonstrated broad-spectrum inhibitory effects against CYP2B6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP2E1, UGT1A1, UGT1A9, UGT2B7 with IC50 values of 1.08–9.78 μM. Except CYP2B6 and CYP2D6, the calculated [I]/Ki values for other enzymes were all greater than 0.1, indicating the inhibition of systemic metabolism or elimination for these enzyme substrates seems likely. Taken together, we summarized metabolic fates of isobavachalcone including glucuronidation and efflux transport as well as inhibitory effects involving in human CYP and UGT enzymes.

Edible and medicinal mushrooms are extensively cultivated and commercially consumed around the world. However, green mold disease (causal agent, Trichoderma spp.) has resulted in severe crop losses on mushroom farms worldwide in recent years and has become an obstacle to the development of the Ganoderma industry in China. In this study, a new species and a new fungal pathogen on Ganoderma sichuanense fruitbodies were identified based on the morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of two genes, the translation elongation factor 1-α (TEF1) and the second-largest subunit of RNA polymerase II (RPB2) genes. The new species, Trichoderma ganodermatigerum sp. nov., belongs to the Harzianum clade, and the new fungal pathogen was identified as Trichoderma koningiopsis. Furthermore, in order to better understand the interaction between Trichoderma and mushrooms, as well as the potential biocontrol value of pathogenic Trichoderma, we summarized the Trichoderma species and their mushroom hosts as best as possible, and the phylogenetic relationships within mushroom pathogenic Trichoderma species were discussed.

Near-infrared luminescent materials have attracted considerable interest because of their excellent performance in the field of optical imaging. Here, a series of Cr3+/Ni2+ co-doped near-infrared phosphors Zn1+ySnyGa2−2yO4 (ZSGO) were synthesized via a solid-state reaction. The phosphors show broad emissions in the range of 1100–1700 nm in the second NIR window. The emission intensity of Ni2+ could be greatly enhanced owing to the energy transfer from Cr3+ to Ni2+. The energy transfer mechanism was inferred from the excitation and emission spectra and the decay lifetime curve, which confirm that the primary process is the electric dipole–dipole interaction. In order to evaluate the potential optical imaging application, NIR-LED light source packages were fabricated with Cr3+/Ni2+ co-doped Zn1+ySnyGa2−2yO4 (ZSGO) phosphors and blue LED chips, which revealed high stability and a strong transilluminated biological tissue effect. These results indicate a great prospect in advanced optical imaging for NIR pc-LED applications.

Ischemic stroke is an acute and severe neurological disease, which leads to disability and death. Immunomodulatory therapies exert multiple remarkable protective effects during ischemic stroke. However, patients suffering from ischemic stroke do not benefit from immunomodulatory therapies due to the presence of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and their off-target effects. Methods: We presented a delivery strategy to optimize immunomodulatory therapies by facilitating BBB penetration and selectively delivering intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) to ischemic regions using 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC)-nanocapsules, MPC-n(IVIg), synthesized using MPC monomers and ethylene glycol dimethyl acrylate (EGDMA) crosslinker via in situ polymerization. In vitro and in vivo experiments verify the effect and safety of MPC-n(IVIg). Results: MPC-n(IVIg) efficiently crosses the BBB and IVIg selectively accumulates in ischemic areas in a high-affinity choline transporter 1 (ChT1)-overexpression dependent manner via endothelial cells in ischemic areas. Moreover, earlier administration of MPC-n(IVIg) more efficiently deliver IVIg to ischemic areas. Furthermore, the early administration of low-dosage MPC-n(IVIg) decreases neurological deficits and mortality by suppressing stroke-induced inflammation in the middle cerebral artery occlusion model. Conclusion: Our findings indicate a promising strategy to efficiently deliver the therapeutics to the ischemic target brain tissue and lower the effective dose of therapeutic drugs for treating ischemic strokes.

The quality of in situ data is key to calculating resistance factor of bored piles. However, it is difficult to summarize accuracy data due to various uncertainties in engineering. This paper employs the Bayesian method and mathematical statistics theory to put forward an estimation method for updating in situ data. A testing database (33 tests in noncohesive soils and 53 tests in cohesive soils) of bored piles is summarized. The model factor of bored piles is quantified as the ratio of the measured capacity to the calculated capacity. The proposed method is used to classify summarized data into three categories, which are “good data,” “general data,” and “bad data.” The “bad data” are discarded because of bad contribution to calculation, and Bayesian theory is incorporated into updating the model factor statistics. Three methods are used to calculate the reliability index and resistance factor of bored piles, and the results show that the reliability index and resistance factor are sensitive to the quality of data. Finally, the available values of resistance factors are proposed based on resistance factor design for bridge design specification, which can offer references to revision relevant specifications. The proposed method can be used to update other geotechnical data.

Understanding the interface effect in dielectric nanocomposites is crucial to the enhancement of their performance. In this work, a data-driven interface design strategy based on high-throughput phase-field simulations is developed to study the interface effect and then optimize the permittivity and breakdown strength of nanocomposites. Here, we use two microscopic features that are closely related to the macroscopic dielectric properties, the thickness and permittivity of the interface phases, to evaluate the role of interfaces in experimental configuration, and thus provide quantitative design schemes for the interfacial phases. Taking the polyvinyl difluoride (PVDF) BaTiO3 nanocomposite as an example, the calculation results demonstrate that the interfacial polarization could account for up to 83.6% of the increase in the experimentally measured effective permittivity of the nanocomposite. Based on the interface optimized strategy, a maximum enhancement of ∼156% in the energy density could be achieved by introducing an interface phase with d/r = 0.55 and e interface / e filler = 0.036 , compared to the pristine nanocomposite. Overall, the present work not only provides fundamental understanding of the interface effect in dielectric nanocomposites, but also establishes a powerful data-driven interface design framework for such materials that could also be easily generalized and applied to study interface issues in other functional nanocomposites, such as solid electrolytes and thermoelectrics.

Objectives Isobavachin is a phenolic with anti-osteoporosis activity. This study aimed to explore its metabolic fates in vivo and in vitro, and to investigate the potential drug–drug interactions involving CYPs and UGTs. Methods Metabolites of isobavachin in mice were first identified and characterized. Oxidation and glucuronidation study were performed using liver and intestine microsomes. Reaction phenotyping, activity correlation analysis and relative activity factor approaches were employed to identify the main CYPs and UGTs involved in isobavachin metabolism. Through kinetic modelling, inhibition mechanisms towards CYPs and UGTs were also explored. Key findings Two glucuronides (G1 - G2) and three oxidated metabolites (M1 - M3) were identified in mice. Additionally, isobavachin underwent efficient oxidation and glucuronidation by human liver microsomes and HIM with CLint values from 5.53 to 148.79 μl/min per mg. CYP1A2, 2C19 contributed 11.3% and 17.1% to hepatic metabolism of isobavachin, respectively, with CLint values from 8.75 to 77.33 μl/min per mg. UGT1As displayed CLint values from 10.73 to 202.62 μl/min per mg for glucuronidation. Besides, significant correlation analysis also proved that CYP1A2, 2C19 and UGT1A1, 1A9 were main contributors for the metabolism of isobavachin. Furthermore, mice may be the appropriate animal model for predicting its metabolism in human. Moreover, isobavachin exhibited broad inhibition against CYP2B6, 2C9, 2C19, UGT1A1, 1A9, 2B7 with Ki values from 0.05 to 3.05 μm. Conclusions CYP1A2, 2C19 and UGT1As play an important role in isobavachin metabolism. Isobavachin demonstrated broad-spectrum inhibition of CYPs and UGTs.

Zwitterionic modification can prolong the blood circulation time of nanocarrier in vivo, but zwitterionic content will affect the functions of nanocarrier such as enzyme-responsive and intracellular or extracellular delivery. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the relationship between the zwitterionic content and circulation time of nanocarrier so as to figure out what content of zwitterion can enable the nanocarrier to obtain both the long blood circulation ability and other functions mentioned above. Herein, using nanocapsule as a research model, we investigated the nanocapsule modified with zwitterion of phosphorylcholine (PC) or carboxybetaine (CB) respectively, and through 1H-NMR quantification we determined the zwitterionic surface content, so as to study the effect of PC or CB surface content on blood circulation performance of nanocapsule. In vivo study showed that the nanocapsule possessed an optimal surface filling ratios range for blood circulation of 43–68% for PC and of 20–68% for CB, with the longest t1/2=37.35 h for PC-nanocapsule and t1/2=45.27 h for CB-nanocapsule. Furthermore, the protein adsorption and macrophage endocytosis experiments indicated that when the surface filling ratio reached 43% for PC-nanocapsule and 20% for CB-nanocapsule, it could effectively reduce the protein adsorption and weaken macrophage endocytosis, thus explaining the phenomenon of long circulation time of nanocapsules from the point of protein adsorption and interaction with immune cells. This study proposes a new direction for designing long-circulating nanocarrier, and provides basis for constructing enzyme-responsive and intracellular or extracellular delivery platform.

Deoxygenative chlorination of carbonyl compounds using the HMe2SiCl/FeCl3/EtOAc and HMeSiCl2/FeCl3/EtOAc systems has been systemically investigated. The HMe2SiCl-FeCl3 system showed the advantages of good substrate applicability, mild reaction conditions, simple operation, low cost, and easy availability of raw materials. Also, it provided a simple and efficient synthesis route for carbonyl deoxychlorination via a one-pot method. Using the HMeSiCl2/FeCl3/EtOAc system, the β-methylchalcone derivative could be obtained in good yields in addition to obtaining the chlorinated compound. Finally, two plausible reaction routes were proposed to describe the formation of the chlorinated compound and the β-methylchalcone derivative.

Brassinosteroids (BRs) are a group of steroid plant hormones regulating normal growth, development, and stress response in plants. However, the mechanisms by which BRs interfere with the resistance of soybean to Phytophthora sojae (P. sojae) remain largely unknown. The present study analyzed the role of BRs in soybean response against P. sojae by comparative proteomic approaches. A total of 52,381 peptides were obtained by trypsin digestion of 9,680 proteins, among which 6,640 proteins were quantified, and 402 proteins were identified as differentially expressed proteins (DEPs). Further analysis revealed that DEPs were significantly involved in the lignin biosynthesis pathway. The expression of the majority of key enzymes involved in lignin biosynthesis was upregulated by BR-pretreatment and P. sojae infection, and lignin accumulation was faster in BR-pretreated soybeans than in untreated controls. Additionally, accumulation of lignin was consistent with these enzyme expressions levels and resistance phenotype. These findings advance the understanding of the role of BRs in the interaction between soybeans and P. sojae.

In view of the current situation of excessively rapid growth of building energy consumption, a control strategy of external shading louvers based on comprehensive energy consumption is proposed to deeply tap the potential of building energy saving. First, the architectural design software Ecotect is used to establish a simulation model of a shading building in Zhengzhou and import it into the lighting analysis software Daysim and the energy consumption simulation software Energyplus to simulate the annual lighting energy consumption and air-conditioning at 11 kinds of blind angles (15∼165°). For heating energy consumption, take the blind angle corresponding to the minimum comprehensive energy consumption as the opening angle of the dynamic blinds and analyze the comprehensive energy consumption for the whole year under dynamic sunshading. The results show that, compared with the conventional control strategy, the optimized control strategy based on comprehensive energy consumption can greatly improve the building’s energy-saving rate.

Temporal stability of net primary productivity (NPP) is important for predicting the reliable provisioning of ecosystem services under global changes. Although nitrogen (N) addition is known to affect the temporal stability of aboveground net primary productivity (ANPP), it is unclear how it impacts that of belowground net primary productivity (BNPP) and NPP, and whether such effects are scale dependent. Here, using experimental N addition in a grassland, we found different responses of ANPP and BNPP stability to N addition at the local scale and that these responses propagated to the larger spatial scale. That is, N addition significantly decreased the stability of ANPP but did not affect the stability of BNPP and NPP at the two scales investigated. Additionally, spatial asynchrony of both ANPP and BNPP among communities provided greater stability at the larger scale and was not affected by N addition. Our findings challenge the traditional view that N addition would reduce ecosystem stability based on results from aboveground dynamics, thus highlighting the importance of viewing ecosystem stability from a whole system perspective.

Drought is a major environmental constraint that causes substantial reductions in plant growth and yield. Expression of stress-related genes is largely regulated by transcription factors (TFs), including in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.]. In this study, 301 GmAP2/ERF genes that encode TFs were identified in the soybean genome. The TFs were divided into five categories according to their homology. Results of previous studies were then used to select the target gene GmAP2/ERF144 from among those up-regulated by drought and salt stress in the transcriptome. According to respective tissue expression analysis and subcellular determination, the gene was highly expressed in leaves and encoded a nuclear-localized protein. To validate the function of GmAP2/ERF144, the gene was overexpressed in soybean using Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Compared with wild-type soybean, drought resistance of overexpression lines increased significantly. Under drought treatment, leaf relative water content was significantly higher in overexpressed lines than in the wild-type genotype, whereas malondialdehyde content and electrical conductivity were significantly lower than those in the wild type. Thus, drought resistance of transgenic soybean increased with overexpression of GmAP2/ERF144. To understand overall function of the gene, network analysis was used to predict the genes that interacted with GmAP2/ERF144. Reverse-transcription quantitative PCR showed that expression of those interacting genes in two transgenic lines was 3 to 30 times higher than that in the wild type. Therefore, GmAP2/ERF144 likely interacted with those genes; however, that conclusion needs to be verified in further specific experiments.

Plant architecture traits are closely related to plant biomass, lodging, and photosynthetic efficiency, which in turn affect soybean yield. In this study, we investigated a Chinese soybean mini core collection consisting of 224 germplasm accessions for four plant architecture-related traits (plant height (PH), number of nodes on main stem (NN), branch number (BN), and stem diameter (DI)) under three environments and conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) based on 1514 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). A total of 41 SNPs were found to be significantly associated with PH, NN, BN, and DI in two or more environments. Among these SNPs, 15 were located in regions in which plant architecture-related QTLs had been reported in previous studies, and 26 were new genetic loci. In addition, 18 potential candidate genes for plant architecture-related traits were obtained by predicting the genes in the interval of four large-effect markers (BARC-017097-02199, Map-2213, BARC-014639-01604, and Map-2223). This research will help to illuminate the genetic basis of soybean plant architecture-related traits and accelerate the process of plant architecture breeding by molecular marker-assisted selection in soybean.

Nighttime fear is common among children and may negatively affect their growth. Given the positive role of digital games in regulating children’s emotions, in this study, we proposed principles for the design of a digital game to alleviate children’s nighttime fears and developed a game prototype based on a survey of children and their parents. In order to verify whether digital games can reduce children’s fears, the Koala Fear Questionnaire (KFQ) was used to assess the effectiveness of the game prototype in an experiment. We adopted a quasi-experimental design with non-randomized samples, including 47 subjects in the experimental group (EG) and 49 subjects in the control group (CG). The results of the analysis show that the children in the EG displayed an obvious decrease in their fear of the objects that appeared in the game. Moreover, for some children with a moderate level of fear, playing digital games could significantly reduce their fear. Therefore, this preliminary study suggests that digital games have a positive effect on alleviating children’s nighttime fears.

With growing concerns regarding data privacy and rapid increase in data volume, Federated Learning(FL) has become an important learning paradigm. However, jointly learning a deep neural network model in a FL setting proves to be a non-trivial task because of the complexities associated with the neural networks, such as varied architectures across clients, permutation invariance of the neurons, and presence of non-linear transformations in each layer. This work introduces a novel Federated Heterogeneous Neural Networks (FedHeNN) framework that allows each client to build a personalised model without enforcing a common architecture across clients. This allows each client to optimize with respect to local data and compute constraints, while still benefiting from the learnings of other (potentially more powerful) clients. The key idea of FedHeNN is to use the instance-level representations obtained from peer clients to guide the simultaneous training on each client. The extensive experimental results demonstrate that the FedHeNN framework is capable of learning better performing models on clients in both the settings of homogeneous and heterogeneous architectures across clients.

Seedling drought stress is one of the most important constraints affecting soybean yield and quality. To unravel the molecular mechanisms under soybean drought tolerance, we conducted comprehensive comparative transcriptome analyses of drought-tolerant genotype Jindou 21 (JD) and drought-sensitive genotype Tianlong No.1 (N1) seedlings that had been exposed to drought treatment. A total of 6038 and 4112 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in drought-tolerant JD and drought-sensitive N1, respectively. Subsequent KEGG pathway analyses showed that numerous DEGs in JD are predominately involved in signal transduction pathways, including plant hormone signaling pathway, calcium signaling pathway, and MAPK signaling pathway. Interestingly, JA and BR plant hormone signal transduction pathways were found specifically participating in drought-tolerant JD. Meanwhile, the differentially expressed CPKs, CIPKs, MAPKs, and MAP3Ks of calcium and MAPK signaling pathway were only identified in JD. The number of DEGs involved in transcription factors (TFs) is larger in JD than that of in N1. Moreover, some differently expressed transcriptional factor genes were only identified in drought-tolerant JD, including FAR1, RAV, LSD1, EIL, and HB-PHD. In addition, this study suggested that JD could respond to drought stress by regulating the cell wall remodeling and stress-related protein genes such as EXPs, CALSs, CBPs, BBXs, and RD22s. JD is more drought tolerant than N1 owing to more DEGs being involved in multiple signal transduction pathways (JA, BR, calcium, MAPK signaling pathway), stress-related TFs, and proteins. The above valuable genes and pathways will deepen the understanding of the molecular mechanisms under drought stress in soybean.

We propose a novel approach to the problem of clustering hierarchically aggregated time-series data, which has remained an understudied problem though it has several commercial applications. We first group time series at each aggregated level, while simultaneously leveraging local and global information. The proposed method can cluster hierarchical time series (HTS) with different lengths and structures. For common two-level hierarchies, we employ a combined objective for local and global clustering over spaces of discrete probability measures, using Wasserstein distance coupled with Soft-DTW divergence. For multi-level hierarchies, we present a bottom-up procedure that progressively leverages lower-level information for higher-level clustering. Our final goal is to improve both the accuracy and speed of forecasts for a larger number of HTS needed for a real-world application. To attain this goal, each time series is first assigned the forecast for its cluster representative, which can be considered as a "shrinkage prior" for the set of time series it represents. Then this base forecast can be quickly fine-tuned to adjust to the specifics of that time series. This study aims to explore the relationship among occupational value view, sense of self-efficacy, and career decision-making of university college graduates in the context of job hunting and employment. The research object is 498 graduates from six colleges and universities in Shaanxi Province, China, including A, B, C, D, E, and F. Data analysis is conducted using independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA analysis, path analysis, and structural equation model test. The results show that there is no significant difference between genders in the occupational value view, but there is significant difference in sense of self-efficacy and career decision-making; The only child has no significant difference in occupational value view, but has significant difference in sense of self-efficacy and career decision-making; family income has no significant difference in the graduates' occupational value view, but has significant difference in sense of self-efficacy and career decision-making; there is no significant difference in the graduates' occupational value view, sense of self-efficacy and career decision-making at different school levels; the occupational value view have a positive and significant impact on sense of self-efficacy and career decision-making; a sense of self-efficacy has a positive and significant impact on career decision-making; the sense of self-efficacy plays a partial intermediary role in the relationship between occupational value view and career decision-making.

Digital media is increasingly being used in formal education. In China, in order to reduce the negative emotions and behaviors of college students in World War Two (WWII) history courses, digitized resources of war heritage are being applied to improve their learning experience. However, their effectiveness remains unconfirmed. Therefore, the purposes of this study are to: (1) test whether the transformation of war heritage into digital resources can help to improve the learning experience of college students; (2) explore the pivotal factors that affect the learning experience of college students; and (3) provide suggestions for improving the digital teaching resources regarding war heritage. The results of the questionnaire survey show that the participants have a positive view of digital teaching resources. In addition, low-interactive digital media can achieve higher learning effects. The multidimensional scaling (MDS) analysis also reveals that creativity in teaching and helping to form students’ values regarding cherishing peace are the foci with respect to improving the learning experience. On this basis, suggestions for improving the digital teaching resources regarding WWII heritage are proposed in this study, as follows: (a) to improve the quality of multisensory experiences in digital teaching media regarding war heritage; (b) to reduce the difficulties with human–computer interaction regarding digital teaching media; (c) to strengthen the correlation between digital resources and the teaching aims; and (d) to build a vision for peace and sustainable development through the narrative of digital media.

Realtime trigger and localization of bursts are the key functions of GECAM, which is an all-sky gamma-ray monitor launched in Dec 10, 2020. We developed a multifunctional trigger and localization software operating on the CPU of the GECAM electronic box (EBOX). This onboard software has the following features: high trigger efficiency for real celestial bursts with a suppression of false triggers caused by charged particle bursts and background fluctuation, dedicated localization algorithm optimized for short and long bursts respetively, short time latency of the trigger information which is downlinked throught the BeiDou satellite navigation System (BDS). This paper presents the detailed design and deveopment of this trigger and localization software system of GECAM, including the main functions, general design, workflow and algorithms, as well as the verification and demonstration of this software, including the on-ground trigger tests with simulated gamma-ray bursts made by a dedicated X-ray tube and the in-flight performance to real gamma-ray bursts and magnetar bursts., Draft, comments welcome
